Mirror House, 2016 by artist Paige Jiyoung Moon was one of the paintings in her 2019 exhibition, Days of Our Lives at Steve Turner in Los Angeles. Her works are all of scenes from her life, painted from memory.

She is currently part of Hammer Museum’s most recent biennial, Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living, its sixth iteration, on view until 12/31/23.

The house in the painting, Mirage, was created by Doug Aitken for Desert X in 2017. On the fictional television series, The Curse, created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, the main characters are building houses with similar look.

My Life With the Walter Boys

Alex Walter x reader

plot: reader gets lost during walk during thanksgiving drama, but of course everything goes wrong. (same plot as in the show but i tweaked it)

Goosebumps, annoying, airpods in. It’s hard to ignore the persistent drama of the Walter house. Especially the drama between, my boyfriend, Alex and, his older brother, Cole. Not to mention the glances Cole keeps throwing at me.

It gets harder to ignore when the glances become stares. Words shared between us also prove his infatuation. I’m not tryna be another paige, so I hope Alex hasn’t noticed.

I glance down at my phone to check the time. 5? I left at 2! I quickly open the maps app to figure out the way home, but the signal isn’t strong enough. Well it couldn’t get anyworse! I eat my words as sounds signaling thunder and a cold storm fill the sky.

Anxiety truly begins to set in. I slid down one the tree ive posted up next to and scramble to call Katherine. I let it ring until im met with her voicemail. I instantly recall that the surprise party for Nathans return from the hospital is right now, no no no! The fear that they wont notice my absence worsens my anxiety. Next I, more frantically, called Alex.

If he doesnt pick up…

“Hey Y/n where are you?”

I breathe for the first time in what felt like minutes..

Now i must confess the deeply embarrassing truth, “Alex, I’m ummm, I’m lost- I was going for a walk and I-I don’t know and I don’t know what to do.”

In the mere moments that I’ve been crouched by the tree the sky has darkened and rain drops have begun. As I word vomit to Alex I can’t stop the breathe catching sobs that quickly take over my overwhelmed state. “Alex- I don’t know what to do”

“Hey. Y/n i need you to take a few deep breaths ok sweetheart” I close my eyes and listen to his voice, “Do you have any idea where you are baby?” I sniffle a response together, “No, theres trees.. a lot of trees and there was a path of sand tint gravel, but it’s gone and theres a hill too.” “Okay baby I know where you are I’ll be there as fast as I can-stay on the phone with me alright?”

The rain is now heavy without any escape and the thunder and lightning fill the sky. Yet, his voice has somehow soothed me. I glance down at my screen for the first time in a while; which is now dusted with raindrops, “Alex, my phone its about to die-“

Dead. And now I’m alone again in the wild and freezing temperatures. My shirt sticks to my skin soaked completely as well as my jeans that weigh me down with the amount of water intake. All I can do now is wait.

I don’t know how much time has passed at this point. Definitely not as much as it feels. I’m scary cold, my body is becoming numb, and I’m tired. super tired.

My shut eyes spring open by the new noise of twigs snapping. “Y/N! Y/N!”

My heart swells- its Alex! His voice sounds harsh like hes been yelling for a while, “ALEX! I’m right here!”

I try to rise from my position underneath the tree but i fall flat on my hands and knees. It’s so dark at this point that I can only see the distant light that Alex carries with him.

It moves erratically and is accompanied by sounds evoked by Alex’s running through the muddied forest.

He is quickly in-front of me discarding his layers. As soon as his hoodie, jean jacket, and raincoat is off of him he is dressing me with urgent yet noticeably delicate movements. “How do you feel Y/n?” He speaks pulling the hood over my head, before he puts his beanie on my head I grab his hand and look him in the eyes, “Alex- I’m ok, leave the beanie just get us out of here, please,” Without skipping a beat I’m scooped up and whisked away cradled in his arms to the family’s good-ole chariot. The beat of his heart and strong arms, definitely from all the farm labour, calm me.

He sets me with the same delicate actions into the passenger seat. My shivering has slowed and before he can turn away I grab him by the back of his neck with both hands and kiss him. His body leans into the car; one hand is around my waist while his other is on the dash securing himself. Our wet lips crash against one another’s and we both quickly become panting messes.

I pull away and his own face follows mine keeping us an inch apart. “Thank you Alex- I’ve never… been lost like that,” He grins that smile that brings warmth to my cheeks and butterflies into my stomach, “Ofcourse you haven’t- ye’arent used to having forests to get lost in city girl.”

well, well, well, you could be my fandom soul mate lol , though we have too many differences in shipping, but I can see most of your point. forgive my poor language, i have dyslexia  so I i write crappy,

first let me just say that yeah, I get your take on x-men, i love x-men and read most of the comics. You are right Angel was gorgeous. he was rich, fine and a ladies man. he and Gambit were the hottest and sexiest guys in x-men and in the fandom there wers debate of who were the hottest couple Angel/Psycloke or Rogue/Gambit. In the series when Warren moved on to Paige Guthrie which was controversial, her first attraction to Angel was that he was a very fine good looking man. Angel was hot. I use to have a crush on Cable (Nathan Summers) growing up. he was my fav.

I think X-Men 3 went for Ben Foster   because he was not in the leading role  but a supporting role, if Angel  had been a main character they may have cast a Brad Pitt look alike. Although I find Ben kind of cute. i will not have cast him as Angel. infact  one of the reason i am happy we never got a gambit movie was because i hated the idea of  Channing Tatum as Gambit.   Gambit was a sexy handsome charming and alluring fine cajun, Channing aint that. so no i wont cast him either. this is how i feel about ceelia gooding.

 She is quite avergae outside the  star trek hair and make up, I even think with the right hair styling and a good amount of weight loss on the face, she could be as cute as Jess Bush but she is no Uhura. I even found zoe saldana too skinny as uhura but at least, she was feminine enough and had a gorgeous face with sex appeal and also in the same age group as Pine and Quinto. 

Ceelia is way too young for the role, she is 22 while most of the actors in snw are in the 30s. This is just another proof they downplayed uhura in snw so she will not be a threat to Chapel. they should not have screwed with an iconic black character that way. pair chapel with spock, keep uhura as she is in tos with a more believable younger actress of Nichols.

star trek or x-men are fiction  and fiction sells fantasy. one of the reason K/S was huge is because girls were turned on by Nimoy and Shatner been so into eachother even as friends or that fight they had in Amok Time. It helped both men were handosme in their own ways. girls always find two hot guys been devoted to eachother as a deeper thing than just friends. I get that as a S/U shipper.

We also cannot pretend nichelle nichols been a good looking woman with a very sexy body was not part of the reason uhura became famous in the 1960s. it was not only because there was a black female character who was not a maid or a slave girl on tv, but also she was very beautiful and had male gaze. that was rare for black women in mainstream america or in other words white america during the 1960s.

SNW removed  the male gaze from Uhura because they did not want anyone to code her as a love interest who will be another potential het pairing choice from tpring or chapel. they were that insecure they had to ugly up uhura and down play her age. to me that is just a no no.

As a person who is many fandoms, trek, star wars, buffy, x-men.  I welcome all shipping pairing to be explored as long as the characters are respected and uhura has been direspected in SNW.

As a S/U shipper, I have accepted that K/S is the OTP of trek and no spock or kirk  het pairing will come close to that.  K/S is an unstoppable pairing  in fandom, however the trek writers will never go there and make it canon. they will always pair kirk and spock with women but clearly snw has done everything they can to make sure, uhura is not coded to be one of those women.

Uhura is not meant to be desired by the male audience in SNW unlike her Kelvin counterpart, which means she will never be desired by Spock or even Kirk or any other prominent guys because let face it, it is hollywood. they sell fantasy and ugly has never sold.

As I said I know I sound shallow, but some things to me are more than just shipping. Uhura was such an icon for a black character been the complete pacakge like Lara Croft or Princess Leia and now this is what we are left with this.

it is so lame and as a black woman, so racist too because it is when they wanted us not to see uhura as pretty or to be desired by men that they chose a dark skin black girl.

As a black woman, Jodi Turner Smith would have been my Uhura, if they wanted to cast a black actress with a darker shade than Nicelle Nicohls or Saldana.

However they won't cast her as she will be too much of a threat.

I don’t get how Strange New Worlds can still be sold as a TOS prequel at this point. Just admit it’s an AU and so be it. I swear.

People who spent the most part of the recent 10s shitting on the Kelvin Trilogy for changing the characters, insulting J.J. because he didn’t stick to TOS characterizations and relationships (despite the movies being officially marketed as an AU from the start)… have nothing to say on Strange New Worlds retcons and blatant ways of ignoring TOS-canon?

This is my one and only original work. It's a short poem with an English and Finnish versions, about being aroace, demigender and atheist.

I was inspired to write it when I was reading Jenna Clare's poetry book, she's ace and Finnish American, so I decided to get her book because I am also two of those things. It's a beautiful book but at one point it talked of god in a way that it really hit, all the things I'm lacking.

Just before Xmas, me and Grey-Haven (not on tumblr anymore) where talking about Lucas Bryant I guess and I lamented how impossible being able to watch Playing House (2006) has been. She, being in the UK, was able to purchase it on youtube and we watched it through some microsoft thing.

It was super funny and Lucas was absolutely perfect. So perfect that I wanted to write fic even after only one watch. I've since ordered both the book the movie was based on and a region free dvd from Australia, both of which I am still waiting for but should get them quite soon.

Also, this fic was more popular than I expected, I have lots of fics that struggle to reach 10 hits and this one has almost 40. Tagging the female lead maybe helped? Idk

I know there were some prompts about this in July bcus Haven's 10 year anniversary but I wasn't inspired to read or write about this then. Because I don't even like this episode much. But rewatching it on its anniversary, I did find myself inspired to write about the aftermath of the party. Heavy still-one-sided Nathan/Audrey.

And then I thought about that calm bit in s5a and how that was probably in July. And the Paige is not as different from Audrey as one might think. It was fun to write these as almost advent thingies.

Moving on from fic, I absolutely loved Lucas' Country at Heart movie and especially the song, A Life in a Love, that he performs. I couldn't help but notice how well some lyrics with Haven, so I did graphic for all the lyrics. It's in many parts and I still think I might do Jennifer/Duke graphic for the last chorus, but that's not happening too soon. But I'm very happy with these and that I managed to do the Audrey pov before the year ended.

Ever since it was established that Nathan was a Pet Shop Boy fan, I wanted to do a graphic about it. I even researched ages ago that in 1983/4 West End Girls would be the most likely song he had heard from them and it mentions 'Finland station', so it was perfect. But I then never really started to properly work on it and then I almost forgot it. Until I made those ALiaL graphic and I managed to finish these ones two. Needed to do it in two parts because it works better that way.

All in all, 2020 wasn't too bad a year for me, creatively. X-Manson Annotated Chapter 4 - Part Six - NATHANIEL ESSEX

You'll notice that these past two have been a bit uneven, ending in weird spots. This is a direct continuation of the last section, however it also ends in a weird spot. Because of tumblr's image limitation, It will probably be like this until Kitty Pryde and the New Mutant's escape from the school.

When I described them as the New Mutants, many fans might notice that several faces are missing. Roberto Da Costa is not mentioned in the story as far as I can tell (and for later reasons this is probably due to racial issues, which probably saved his ass in the long run). Rahne Sinclair is also not present. I can only speculate that Xuân Cao Mạnh is present. When John says it was "The Guthries and Three Others" Illyana isn't mentioned.

You'll also notice a mix of codenames and actual names. Actual names denoting those who didn't survive the escape attempt.

Okay, out of the four that was listed earlier. John's curious about which ones would talk. Maybe my impression about Dani and Kitty being the only survivors was incorrect. Maybe they're the only ones nobody knows the public names of.

Kitty being there the longest seems dismal when we come up against what's in the future.

Nathaniel Essex. Mister Sinister. The man of the Hour, tower of power, too sweet to be sour. Body made of twisted steel, supersonic sex appeal.

He is none of those things.

*The interviewer in the BBC interview seems to be aware of the conditions present in the area. Is this super well know? Is the cult and the state of Westchester an open secret?

Albert Schweitzer was a polymath who focused on sending medical aid to areas impacted by colonialism such as Africa.

this is unsurprising. An english doctor blows into town with a bunch of medical aid and is a condescending prick about it. Cult influence or not, it was bound to rub some people the wrong way.

Pete Wisdom being a professor of Poetry brings to mind George Smiley from John Le Carre's novels. I think that this might be the job that he has typcially while also working in secret for this world's version of Black Air, but this is highly speculative.

His heading to America causes me to ask a few questions. Like what caused him to head over in the first place? He's got an education for teaching and writing judging from his position in the present.

*I don't think Comics Essex had a sister named Rachel, but the number of Nathans and Rachels in this story are astounding for unconnected groups.

Ororo and by extension, Xavier saw this as Nathaniel muscling in on their turf. They don't see him as an extension of their cult's mythos. They see him as a potential crack that threatens to break their hold over the locals.

*Maddie Pryor type shit.

I'm not a doctor, but is this something that's a bit of world-building considering mutants and whatnot or is this a thing that has to be done for studying real-world biochemistry in individual patients?

The interviewer is a goddamn moron if they could interpret that as Essex hating his patients.

This section of the fanfic also inspired another writer to write a fanfic that's semi related to it about this world's Pete Wisdom. If you have the time, read it on your own. I might do annotations of it as well if I can get the writer's permission.
