best ending: they talk it out after lewis wins his 8th wdc and we end up with brocedes in each other's lives again. lewis shows up on nico's yt channel. nico is on lewis' insta. vivian dogwalks both of them for letting the divorce last that long. i join the convent because this is clearly a miracle from god and reblog gifsets of brocedes interacting from the chapel. rinse, repeat.
ending we're most likely gonna get: whatever the hell we have now. nico talks about lewis. lewis will say karting is the best time of his career. for two seconds out of the year, lewis will say nico's name. i will sob, rinse, repeat.
worst ending: they shut the fuck up about each other forever. they process the divorce and move on with their lives without each other. i will go on tumblr and reblog angsty web weaves about their relationship and what could've been. i take psychic damage. rinse. repeat.

IF it can be helped at all, stay home when you are sick to prevent your illness from spreading to others, even if it's not a "serious" illness and is just a common cold, a common cold can still be really detrimental anyone with a weakened or compromised immune system from conditions including, but not limited to, leukemia, HIV, and hepatitis. And you can never know if one of your co-workers or a customer or a random stranger at the store has or lives with someone who has one of these conditions.
Not everyone can help it, some people risk losing their job if they call in sick, and not everyone has someone they can call on to run to the store for essentials while they're sick.
In these cases at least consider wearing a mask while you're in public so as to prevent spreading your sickness to co-workers / customers / random strangers you encounter while out in public. There are several cultures where even pre-COVID times it was considered rude to go out in public without a mask even if you had a simple cold because of it being inconsiderate to spread your sickness to others.
Now, if it can be helped at all, if you have a job where you can call in sick without losing your income, or if you have a job where you can work form home, or if you have anyone at all you can call on to run to the store for you to grab essentials, use that!
"Oh but I don't want to inconvenience my co-workers by having them down a person today, what if they really need my help?" You know what's going to inconvenience them more is when you make everyone at work sick, and some of them might either have a compromised immune system or live with someone who does.
"Oh but I don't want to inconvenience my friend by asking them to grab some essentials from the store for me while I'm sick!" You know what's going to be more inconvenient is when you spread your sickness to that dad you stood in line behind at the store who has a child at home withe leukemia, or a spouse with HIV.
And again, of course not everyone has an option. Some people risk losing their income if they call into work sick, or they don't have anyone who they can call on to get essentials from the store for them. But again, at least consider masking up to mitigate the risk of spreading your illness to vulnerable people who could be seriously harmed by even a common cold or mild flu.

Dear bitches, I have a question that may benefit the class: I'm lucky to have a job that has a very generous 15 day sick leave policy, and no health issues that would make me take it - except that I also have the copper IUD that gives me horrid cramps on day 1 of my period, for just about 24 hours exactly.
What is the business speak for 'I'm taking a sick day today because of my period'? What is the general business speak for 'I won't be here for a day for health reasons' that doesn't imply contagion or invite questions about how I'm feeling when I come back? Thank you and I hope you know JUST how appreciated you are (seriously, who else would I ask this to)
Sweetie pie... we LOVE that we're the ones you choose to ask this of. This is all we ever wanted--for strangers on the internet to talk to us about their periods!
(Sidenote: I, Piggy, also currently have an IUD, and it leads to practically ZERO symptoms of menstruation. I don't bleed, I don't get cramps, I don't experience mood swings. About once per year my face breaks out in zits and I bleed a small amount for a few hours. That's it. I fucking love it. So readers, just keep in mind that everyone's body is different and your symptoms may vary on any medication. I DIGRESS.)
The #1 thing to keep in mind is that your employer is not entitled to any confidential medical information. If you have cancer, they don't have a right to that information. If you've got a headache, they don't have a right to know. If you're considering a cosmetic surgery, a gender alignment surgery, or any other surgery... they don't need to know. So if you're menstruating and it hurts, they definitely don't get to know.
So my preference would be to go with the direct approach. If you're cramping and you want to take a sick day, just tell your employer "I'm taking a sick day." If they press for details, say "I'll see you tomorrow. :)" If they keep pressing, remind them that they are not legally entitled to your confidential medical information.
But if you'd rather not be direct (and who could blame you?) just tell them you "got food poisoning from the mussels at that place off of i70--you know the one? Yeah last time I'll make that mistake, even if I do have a Groupon. I didn't know puke could even BE that color!" Food poisoning is gross and temporary and tends to dissuade further questions.

The Seunghan (RIIZE) situation is one of the most confusing and embarrassing things to happen to KPOP fandom in recent memory. I wonder what it's like to be a member of the group and do fansigns where you tell your fans how grateful you are for their support. Like, how do you do that with a straight face and your soul intact. When you have no idea if one of them sent a funeral wreath celebrating an awful event in your groups history. But I guess it's a job like any other, where you sometimes have to leave your values and ethics at the door. Maybe they can get past this but quite frankly, it's just bad vibes at this point. SM continues to be the pits of Hell.

I think labor is one area (of many) where if you're involved in the politics, the "there's no difference between the political parties so don't bother voting!" line just absolutely falls apart. Like . . . Democrats aren't super invested in labor, but Republicans are actively trying to dismantle unions at a federal level. Most of the mechanics I know lean heavily conservative, but almost every single labor leader I've met has been staunchly, if reluctantly, Democrat. My local trades newsletter is constantly begging people to vote Democrat. My local union is constantly telling its members that it's not that the union is partisan in who it supports; we just keep happening to support Democrats because they at least nominally support labor whereas Republicans are openly trying to fuck us over on every conceivable level.
I went to a tradewomen convention the other day and like half the speaking time was devoted to reiterating the importance of voting. Every speaker was like "please, it has been SO MUCH fucking easier and we have made SO MANY strides since 2020 and it is almost entirely thanks to the Biden administration. Please, please, please do not fuck this up for labor and organizing in 2024."
And it's not because they're neoliberal shills who don't want progress - it's because they've BEEN out there doing the work and they know first-hand what the difference is between a Republican and a Democratic administration. So if you claim to support unions - well, this is what union leaders are asking you to do.

What's that, Sam Jones? Since you started paying your 22 staff members at your cafe a living wage + giving them 10 paid sick days/year you've had zero problems attracting staff, in a city where restaurant owners are constantly crying about how they are chronically short-staffed because "no one wants to work anymore?" GEE I WONDER WHAT SAM'S SECRET IS???

Im trying to convince my coworker something but he won't listen to me so this is purely for my own vindication
So shift changes happen starting on Sunday. Many of us overnighters were given day shifts. This means that we will end in the early hours of Sunday and still be scheduled for work later that day.
Say you have 5 paid sick days left for the rest of the year and are not a problem officer for calling in, meaning you have never made a habit of calling in for no reason or conveniently always at peak season. Any unused ones for the year get paid out in January. You end at 5am, and will be scheduled for an 11am start the same day. And your new days off start on Monday, meaning you can have more time to change your sleep schedule around before you're on days.

"I work for a company with an incredibly generous 15 day sick day policy" pisses me right off. Fuck you, America.
Signed, someone in a civilised country who gets six months.
Tumblr media
Yeeeeeah. We're all pretty jealous and in awe of your civilized work benefits. Can we come live with you??? What's it like just never having to deal with burnout???? How does it feel to just, like, stay home and recover from an illness instead of trying to work through it?
I currently work for a company that has "unlimited paid time off," it's literally half the reason I accepted the job, and all of my friends are SHOCKED by how generous this policy is.
