[AUGUST 2024] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "Feels Like Summer" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!
"Feels Like Summer" is the third track from Weezer's pop-rock 2017 album, Pacific Daydream, and was also the first of two singles to be released for the album. Definitely one of the poppiest songs from this LP, this track features a wealth of overlapping vocals and synthesized instrumentation, as well as a sung "na-na-na" hook that evidently contributes to its earworm-y feel.
Due to its poppiness and significant use of synthesized instruments, this is probably my least favorite track from Pacific Daydream. However, I can still appreciate it's ability to be a well-written pop track that hits all the bases needed to be a good radio song. In particular, while writing the tab, I was surprised at just how much layering is present throughout its composition. For example, I never realized that the "na-na-na" hook is sprinkled throughout the entire song—not just in the start, end, and interlude. In addition, studio acapella and instrumental versions of the song which had been uploaded to Youtube by fans proved quite enlightening when it came to learning just how many vocal harmonies and backing instrumental tracks are present; they blended in so well in the mixing of the base song that it would have otherwise been easy to miss them when tabbing the song.

i wouldnt necessarily call myself a weezer fan (i like ~3 of their albums and Blue isnt one of them) but their discography feels completely unbelievable. Red Album inexplicably lets every band member be lead singer on one song each when none of the others have done lead singing before. the other half of the album is either full-on prog rock / psychadelic songs up to 6 minutes, or tracks that they recorded specifically bc their label said theyd be insane for releasing the album like this. and every weezer album has something like this. its like even when their music sucks (most of the time) it manages to be deeply fascinating and insane (likely because Rivers Cuomo is also deeply fascinating and insane)

I love so many things about my job but above all else I love the traveling, I love flying over or driving through little towns, I love imagining how life would have or could have been there. How things could have been different in my life had I been born there. All of the possibilities and experiences. But at the end of the day I'm happy to be me. I hope others can feel this peace at the end of their day. To know that there were countless combinations of time and place, happenstances that could have been and yet here you are.
I don't mean to sound like a Cheshire cat or Dr Seuss but out of all the yous who could have come to be, I'm so very glad you are the you who has come to meet me.

[JUNE 2024] Songsterr tab for Weezer's "Get Right" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!
"Get Right" is the eighth track from Weezer's poppy 2017 LP, Pacific Daydream. For an album which received middling reviews by critics—not to mention being constantly panned by fans—I strangely found myself enjoying this album a lot, in spite of it straying far from the classic rocky Weezer sound we're used to. I hated the songs at first, but soon found myself enjoying just how fun they are; each one has a unique composition and earworm-y sound that kept drawing me back to listen to the album time and time again. In the end, I found myself hoping someone would request a tab for this album so I'd have an external reason to delve into how the songs are constructed.
"Get Right", like a number of tracks from the LP, mainly focuses on the melodies created by the lead vocals and traveling bassline. Although additional electric and acoustic guitars are present, they feel more like they're intended to compliment the other instruments, with twinkly riffs and higher-octave chords instead of a driving power-chord progression. The song also features a number of percussive instruments not frequently featured on previous Weezer tracks, like a tambourine, hand-claps, shaker, and what sounds like a cabasa. In terms of differences, "Get Right" doesn't feature the same level of extensive vocal harmonies present on other Pacific Daydream tracks, and it honestly feels like the most angst-y song off the LP, with some quiet vocal tones during the verses and bridge, and a constant, driving on-beat kick drum during the choruses. I also really like the octave synth they use during the second and third choruses.
Due to the unique composition of this track (which is, again, indicative of many tracks from Pacific Daydream), "Get Right" proved to be quite difficult to tab out, since I could not rely on my knowledge of how Weezer tracks are typically written to help speed up the process. In addition, instruments like the bass and guitars constantly featured slight variations from section to section which required even more repeated listening of different parts of the song. The guitars were also rather quiet in the audio mixing, which made it difficult to tell what was being played. I feel glad with the final product, though, and still look forward tabbing out other songs from this album when I get the chance!
