RWBY Christmas Tales
Baby, it's Cold Outside
[Arc Manor - Charlemagne]
It was late in the evening and Teams RWBY, JNPR, Oscar, Sun and Neptune were having a wonderful time. They all crowded around the table as Weiss and Blake were head to head in a chess match. Both of them glared at each other fiercely. It was sudden death. Weiss grabbed her piece and made her move. Blake's eyes shrank as she sat there helpless. It was all over.
Weiss: *smirks* Checkmate.
Blake: *sighs and smiles* You win again, Weiss. Good game.
Ruby, Pyrrha, Nora, Whitley and Neptune all cheered while Jaune, Ren, Sun, Yang and Oscar all groaned.
Yang: *looks at her watch* Aw man. Girls, we gotta get going. Ozpin has a new mission for us tomorrow.
Ruby: Oh right! I almost forgot about that. Let's get going.
Jaune: Huh? But it's a blizzars out there! You're not gonna make it all the way back to Vale.
Weiss: Psssh, I've been through worse. This is a mild inconvenience in Atlas.
Whitley: She's right, you know.
Sun: Come on, don't be reckless.
Blake: Sorry, Sun. But if we don't do this, the headmaster will give us one of his creative punishments again.
Yang tries to open the door, but Ren tugs on her jacket.
Yang: *chuckles* Jaune, stop it.
Jaune: Come on, sweetie. Stay. For me?
Yang: *shakes her head* 🎶I really can't stay🎶
Jaune: *points to the sofa* 🎶Baby, it's cold outside🎶
Blake: 🎶I've got to go away🎶
Ren: 🎶Baby, it's cold outside🎶 *takes her scarf*
Weiss: 🎶This evening has been-🎶
Neptune: 🎶Hoping that you'd drop in🎶
Ruby: 🎶So, very nice🎶
Oscar: 🎶I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice🎶
Blake: 🎶My mother will start to worry🎶
Ren: *holds her gently* 🎶Beautiful, what's your hurry?🎶
Yang: 🎶My father will be pacing the floor🎶
Jaune: 🎶Listen to that fireplace roar🎶
Ruby: 🎶So, really I'd better scurry🎶
Oscar: 🎶Beautiful, please don't hurry🎶
Weiss: 🎶But maybe just a hald a drink more?🎶 *takes coat off*
Neptune: 🎶I'll put some records on while I pour🎶 *grabs bottle*
Blake: 🎶The neighbors might think🎶 *holds Ren's hand*
Ren: *twirls Blake* 🎶Baby, it's bad out there🎶
Yang: *smiles and sips glass* 🎶Say, what's in this drink?🎶
Jaune: 🎶No cabs to be had out there🎶
Ruby: 🎶I wish I knew how-🎶
Oscar: 🎶Your eyes are like starlight now🎶
Ruby: 🎶To break this spell🎶
Oscar: *grabs beanie* 🎶I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell🎶 *ruffles Ruby's hair*
Weiss: 🎶I ought to say, "No, no, no sir"🎶
Neptune: 🎶Mind if I move in closer?🎶
Weiss: 🎶At least I'm gonna say that I tried🎶
Neptune: 🎶What's the sense in hurting my pride?🎶
Yang: 🎶I really can't stay🎶
Jaune: 🎶Baby, don't hold out🎶
Jaune/Yang: *lean on each other* 🎶Baby, it's cold outside🎶
Whitley: ...are they always like this?
Sun/Nora: *nods head* Yep.
Pyrrha: Last year, they sang Holly Jolly Christmas.
Blake: *stands up* 🎶I simply must go🎶
Ren: 🎶Baby, it's cold outside🎶
Blake: 🎶The answer is, "No"🎶 *chuckles*
Ren: 🎶But, baby, it's cold outside🎶
Weiss: 🎶The welcome has been-🎶
Neptune: 🎶How lucky that you dropped in🎶
Weiss: 🎶So nice and warm🎶
Neptune: *points outside* 🎶Look out the window at that storm🎶
Yang: *drapes arms over Jaune's shoulders* 🎶My uncle will be suspicious🎶
Jaune: *holds Yang's waist* 🎶Gosh, your lips look delicious🎶
Yang: 🎶My puppy will be there at the door🎶
Jaune: 🎶Waves upon a tropical shore🎶
Ruby: 🎶My Maiden aunt's mind is vicious🎶
Oscar: 🎶Gosh, your lips are delicious🎶
Ruby: 🎶But maybe just another dance more🎶
Oscar: 🎶Never such a blizzard before🎶
Blake/Weiss: 🎶I've got to get home🎶
Ren/Neptune: 🎶Baby, you'll freeze out there🎶
Blake/Weiss: 🎶Say, lend me your comb?🎶
Ren/Neptune: 🎶It's up to your knees out there🎶
Ruby/Yang: 🎶You've really been grand🎶
Oscar/Jaune: 🎶I thrill when I touch your hand🎶
Ruby/Yang: 🎶But don't you see?🎶
Oscar/Jaune: 🎶How can you do this thing to me?🎶
Ruby/Yang: 🎶There's bound to be talk tomorrow🎶
Oscar/Jaune: 🎶Think of my life-long sorrow🎶
Ruby/Yang: 🎶At least there will be plenty implied🎶
Oscar/Jaune: 🎶If you got pneumonia and died🎶
RWBY: 🎶I really can't stay🎶
ONRJ: 🎶Get over that hold out🎶
RWBY/ONRJ: 🎶Baby, it's cold Baby, it's cold outside!!!🎶
Yang: *chuckles and takes off her coat* Well I'm convinced. We're staying. Mr Arc, please join me on the sofa. *kisses his cheek*
Jaune: Certainly, Miss Xiao Long. *kisses her hand*

Mini Fanfic #1114: Morning Text with GF (RWBY)
Ruby: So you n Pyrrha are gonna take some therapy sessions for mow on?
Oscar: Yep. And get this.
Oscar: Turns out that Ms. Goodwitch has been psychologist thus whole time
Ruby: No surprise there really
Ruby: She did had the side job of being academy psychologist on some occasions
Ruby: Which is kinda funny considering she used to scare the crap out of a lot of students with the death glare alone lol
Oscar: Kinda makes me glad I haven't gotten on her worse side yet
Ruby: Oh I wouldn't worry about that too much
Ruby: Can't imagine Mother Goodwitch ever being mad at her baby farmboi for long!~
Oscar: Yeah, unless I get involved with your antics.
.......................................................................................
Ruby let's out a loud, dramatic gasps before pouting and texting back.
.......................................................................................
Ruby: Excuuuuuse u!?
Ruby: I'll have u know that I have been a wonderful influence over the years
Oscar: Yeah, tell that to the ghost of Ozpin
Oscar: Last I checked, you were a real piece of work in the acemdey days lol
Ruby: Um correction! Yang was a real piece of work
Ruby: I had been nothing but an innocent, angel- 😇
Oscar: Sure you are, Rose. Sure you are.
Ruby: Oh forget it! This shouldn't even be about right now.
Ruby: What I REALLY wanna talk about is how you've gotten so lucky into having an aunt, two dads, and three moms in ur life
Ruby: U kno, besides being the the biggest sweetheart on the face of this planet~
Ruby: Also, Emerald too I guess
Oscar: Hey, you actually include her for something for once lol
Ruby: Yeah, yeah how nice of me. She's still on my "I Don't Trust" List.
Oscar: I know, but at least try to get along one another, even if it's for a tiny bit
Ruby: I try for u
Ruby: Just don't expect us to be the bestest friends 9r whatever, 'kay?
Ruby: I already have a lot of besties as it is and one of them is my sweetheart of a boyfriend 😘
Oscar: Best friend and Boyfriend? I'm already feel honored already~
Oscar: But to answer your question, I guess is as good as mines on thar one really lol
Oscar: I'm just happy to have them all in my life right now
Oscar: That includes you too, Ruby ;)
Ruby: D'awwwww!~ Now I'm feeling honored~
Ruby: And I'm really glad things are going well for you guys as of late, especially after all the hell we've all been through in the past.
Oscar: Thanks. I can say the same for you guys as well.
Oscar: Hang on. I have to take a call for a sec.
Ruby: At 8 in the morning?
Oscar: It's technically 8: 54 am right now, but yeah. BRB!
..........................................................................................
Oscar: (Quickly Answers the Call) Hello? Oscar's speaking.
Glynda: (On the Other Line) Good Morning, Oscar.
Oscar: Morning, mom- I-I mean! Ms.... Goodwitch.
Glynda: (Giggles Softly) Honestly~ There's no need for to be formal every time we talk to another. We agreed that I would take role of your mother figure and I really don't mind you treating me as such.
Oscar: ('Sigh') I know. Force of habits can do that to you sometimes. Anyways, how are you today?
Glynda: I'm doing well all things considered. How about you and the others?
Oscar: We're doing alright....for the most part.
Glynda: Oscar.....Your voice is sounding troubled right now. Is something the matter?
Oscar: It's.....(Takes a Deep Breath Before Speaking Again) Okay, so....try not to freak out or anything, but....Pyrrha and I had bad dreams last night.
Glynda: Oh no..... A-Are you two okay? What were you dreaming about if you don't mind me asking.
Oscar: We were dreaming about the past. And how unpleasant it truly was for both of us......... B-But don't worry! We were able keep each other company or the night along with Jaune, Ren, and Nora and everything went smoothly from there. Also, we gave it some thought and.....We figured it's about time we give your therapy sessions a try.
Glynda: You will? Truly?
Oscar: Yep. (Starts Rubbing The Back of his Head Back and Forth) Though, to be honest, I'm.....starting to get nervous about the whole thing.
Glynda: It's normal to feel anxious about taking part in this sort of ordeal. But I will do everything I can to make sure that our sessions would be more calming and less Intimidating.
Oscar: (Smiles Sheepishly) You really don't have to go out of your way to do that for me. Bur I appreciate it all the time.
Nora: (In the Kitchen) Is that Glynda on the phone!Phone!? Tell her we're making pancakes!!!!
Ren: And Good Morning!
Nora: Oh yeah and that too. MOOOOORNING!!~
Oscar: You heard that right-
Glynda: ('Sigh') I've heard it, yes. It's somewhat nice to see some things haven't changed.
Oscar: Was Nora always a troublemaker back at the acemdey?
Glynda: She wasn't as bad as Ms. Rose in comparison, but she is a close second. I swear, after all these years, she still goes around claiming she's queen of some castle or whatever.
Oscar: Yeah l, she tends to do that here. But anyways, do you wanna eat breakfast with us? I know you have busy schedule on your hands, but-
Glynda: Actually, I'm free for the rest of thr day.
Oscar: You don't say? If that's the case, why not spend the rest of the day with us? You are part of this family after all.
Glynda: And I'm very honored to be here~ In the meantime, I'll get myself ready. You make sure your queen doesn't try eating all the pancakes.
Oscar: I'm sure Ren has it covered from here.
Ren: Nora, I told you not to taste the batter!
Nora: And I told you that my tummy has no knowledge of being patient!
Oscar:........Hopefully. I'll be sure to tell the others that you're coming over.
Glynda: Very well. I'll see you in a few. I love you.
Oscar: I love you too, mom. Later.
As the call comes to an end, Oscar resume back to texting his girlfriend.
...........................................................................................
Oscar: I've returned!!
Ruby: Welcome back, stranger!~
Ruby: How's the calling session?
Oscar: Pretty good. Ms Goodwitch is coming over to our house for breakfast
Ruby: No way. She finally got herself a free day today?
Oscar: Yep. And she's gonna spend it with us for the rest of the day
Ruby: Awww~ Bet you're real excited about that now, huh?
Oscar: Yeah, it's been a while since we've hangout with one another, so there's no way i couldn't be anymore excited about it than I am now lol
Runy: Neat!
Ruby: Mind if I tag along with u guys? I'm free too~
Oscar: Sure, but try to behave yourself, yeah?
Oscar: We don't want your former professor to blow a casket over your troublemaking
Ruby: I am a good student damnit!
Ruby: I swear, you get involved in one measly food fight in the cafeteria abd you're suddenly labeled for life! It's blows! 😡
Oscar: Hey, that's what happens when you make history. Everyone will remember what you did no matter how hard you want them to forget.
Ruby: Uh huh.
Ruby: In the meantime, I'd better get myself ready to come to your house in a while
Ruby: Why don't you get yourself nice and handsome for me, will ya?
Oscar: Why? So you could kiss me all over?
Ruby: Damn right!~ :D
Ruby: ...........Or rather, I hope I could do that without getting caught by ur moms.....
Oscar: Is the great huntress Ruby Rose, getting scared of a couple of moms already?~
Ruby: NO!
Ruby: I just...
Ruby: Wanted to make a good impression on them is all.
Oscar: Lol right
Oscar: I wish you the best of luck with that, dear~

Memories like Thorns: A Ruby Rose One-Shot
Ruby slung the red skirt and cape over the makeshift clothesline that she had made with some sticks she had found lying on the beach and rope she had stashed in her pockets after the incident with the Ace Ops and the Command Center in Atlas.
The sand was warm beneath her bare feet, her boots drying nearby. Her belt, tights, corset, and forearm bracers were laid out on a rock. She hoped they would absorb the heat from the face of the rock and dry faster. She had used a sharp stone to tear off the long-sleeves of her dress and discarded them entirely. It was hot, and she didn’t want to suffer from heatstroke. Crescent Rose rested against a giant seashell.
So, there she stood, in just her shorts and a now-sleeveless blouse. She sighed.
How did it come to this? She remembered the cruel triumph on Cinder’s face as she loomed above her as Ruby clung to the leg of Neo, the girl who had been trying to kill her only moments ago. She remembered the screams of Blake and Penny. She remembered Blake’s grip on her as she attempted to rescue her. She remembered the feeling in her stomach as she and Blake fell after Cinder cut the ribbon on Gambol Shroud, sending them falling to their deaths. She remembered the feeling of free-falling, and then crashing into water, which she eventually discovered was the ocean of this world she could only assume was the afterlife.
She had been lucky her father had taught Ruby and Yang how to swim at a young age. She had managed to swim to the surface of the ocean, spitting up salt water. Through her blurry and burning vision, she had seen the island not too far from where she had fallen, and had managed to swim to the surface. After lying in the sand for what felt like a couple of hours, she had managed to get to her feet and function properly. It was warm now, but who knows what it would get during the night, and she didn’t want to risk freezing.
Not that I can die twice, she thought dryly. Gazing around, she finally took in her surroundings. The sand that made up the beach was tawny in color, and all around her were flourishing trees and colorful flowers. The giant seashell she had rested Crescent Rose against was just one of many that dotted the beach. A massive cliff loomed over her, and on top of that was a tree of gargantuan size, sporting rainbow foliage. Beyond that… she didn’t know, but she heard birdsong.
“We should have asked for guardrails,” Ruby muttered to herself, mentally scolding herself for not thinking of everything like she had hoped. We made more than one foolish oversight, she thought, referring to how they had so easily forgotten that Penny wasn’t the only maiden in Atlas.
Then, I wonder where the others are? Though she and Blake had lost hold on each other when they fell, she was fairly certain she should have fallen somewhat close to her. Yang… she had no idea. Weiss and Penny and Jaune, I hope they’re okay. Last she had seen, they were okay.
Oscar. The thought of the former farmhand scorched through her mind, and she clutched her chest. She hadn’t been able to say goodbye to Oscar.
All of a sudden, a horrifying thought entered her mind. Uncle Qrow. He doesn’t know what happened to us. When he does learn… Oh gods, he’s lost all of his family, now. The thought made her want to vomit and her knees weak. She stumbled and managed to catch herself on one of the branches she had used to make the makeshift clothesline. Her cape, still damp but warm from the sun, brushed against her cheek. She froze suddenly, a memory surfacing.
The feel of velvet brushing against her face, a crimson swathe enveloping her, the warmth of familiar arms wrapped around her in a warm hug. Silver eyes flashed above her as her mother gazed at her, unending love swimming in them. She smiled widely as she clasped her arms around the child in a tight hug, bundling her in her cape. The warmth and the velvet were snug and the child couldn’t imagine leaving the warmth of her mother’s embrace.
Ruby took a step back, her focus returning to the present. She stared at her own crimson clothes. She reached out to touch the cape that had been with her through thick and thin. She grasped it tightly, feeling the damp cloth wrap around her hand.
Her mother’s hug before she left on her final mission was one of the only memories she had of her mother. Her final mission. She grit her teeth. Her final mission that led to her falling into Salem’s clutches. To be experimented on, to be subjected to horrors unfathomable.
All so Salem could spit into Ozpin’s and the God of Light’s face, she thought bitterly. She could imagine the cruel glee that Salem must have felt when she discovered that she could turn the God of Light’s warriors into her own. Her hands trembled, out of anger or fear, she wasn’t sure. She wasn’t sure of anything anymore.
She remembered Oscar’s lament after they picked him up from the slums. “Every choice I made was the wrong one,” he had said forlornly. But it was her choices that had been wrong at every turn. It was her choice to lie to Ironwood, to waste time trying to put out a message with the naive assumption that help would come. Anger and regret surged through her forcing her to sit down. She criss-crossed her legs and stared up at her drying clothes. She wanted nothing more than to be lost in the red, like she was so long ago while in the embrace of her mother.
When she was younger, she had tried very hard not to lie. After all, heroes in fairy tales didn’t lie. They were truthful and brave, and she wanted to be just like them. Of course, she had told little white lies here and there, like when she ate all the raw cookie dough that Yang had made to bake cookies. She remembered when she told her first big lie.
It had been when she first got accepted into Signal Academy, and she chose her combat gear. When she returned home from shopping, decked in all red - and most notably - a red cape, the look on her family’s faces was unforgettable. Qrow - who had come over for a visit - and her father had looked at her with strange, twisted expressions, which in hindsight, she realized was because she looked so similar to her mother.
Yang, on the other hand, had been so proud. “Copying Uncle Qrow, eh?” Yang had asked, in a knowing, teasing voice, jabbing her with her elbows. “The red suits you. Matches your hair.”
The twisted expression had melted off Qrow’s face, replaced with immense pride. “You look good, kiddo. Everyone will know you’re my niece, all right,” he had crowed. Mischief glinted in his pinkish-red gaze as he added, “But don’t think I’ll go easy on you. No favoritism from me. Nope.”
They had looked so happy, and Ruby hadn’t been able to remember the last time the whole family had been so happy, all together like that. Qrow and her father could rarely be in the same room without an argument breaking out, and Yang spent more time at school or hanging out with her school friends than at home.
“Yeah!” Ruby had laughed with them. “I just wanted to look like my hero!” Qrow had puffed out his chest and stretched out an arm ruffling her hair. But deep down, she wasn’t laughing, because it wasn’t true. She hadn’t picked her outfit to look like Qrow. She had chosen the red-soled boots and the corset and the cape because when she thought back to her mother, all she could see was red. From pictures around the house, she knew her mother had a white cape, with a crimson interior.
All she could remember of her mother was the warm embrace of arms hugged tightly around her, the feel of velvet on her face, and bright red. It had been like being embraced by rose petals. And so, when she saw the crimson cape hanging on the clothes hanger, nearly hidden by other capes of varying colors, she had picked it almost immediately. From there, she picked out the rest of her outfit based on the cape and complimentary colors. When she had put it on in the dressing room, it had felt so right.
But she hadn’t wanted to ruin the moment, and so she lied. Guilt had squirmed in her stomach for days after. She had finally managed to dispel it after she convinced herself that by lying, she was keeping her family from feeling sad. She remembered quite vividly how her father got whenever she brought up her mother. He seemed to wither, and while pride and love glimmered in his eyes whenever he spoke of his former partner, his voice became hollow.
Another lie, one that she kept to herself and told no one, was that she was jealous of Yang. She loved her sister more than anything, but sometimes jealousy burned hot in her stomach when she talked about their mother. Because Yang remembered her more than Ruby, and it made her feel emotions that she hated herself for feeling.
It had been a new memory of her mother that had allowed her to activate her eyes against the Leviathan. She had been so excited about the new memory that she had told Yang. Yang had been so happy, and had gone on a long tangent about their mother in an attempt to jog some more memories out of Ruby. Ruby had once again felt the hot bubbles of jealousy in her stomach.
And when Salem had caused a new memory to surface, Ruby had never felt such despair in her life. She remembered the witch’s words, she had burned them into her mind. “Your mother said those words to me. She was wrong, too.”
And then that attacked the Schnee Manor. She remembered the face of the Faunus that had been revealed to be the core of the Hound Grimm. Horrific scars and boils and patches of raw, exposed muscle covered his face and neck, and a strange white spider-web-like substance covered half of his face. Ruby could only assume that Salem had removed his eye on that side. His eye… She had noticed it right away, the dull flash of silver from his remaining eye. He had looked at her, his eye void of any emotion and yet full of an agony that he could not voice as he repeated the same sentence over and over. “Take. The Girl.”
The answer to the question she had asked for 15 years came to her in an instant. This was what had happened to her mother. This was why she never returned. When she had told Yang of her suspicion, for once, she did not feel any jealousy as Yang broke down. All she could feel was overwhelming sorrow and guilt as Yang attempted to comfort her because she knew. She knew why her mother had left her and her family to face Salem.
It was because of her. Because she had inherited her mother’s eyes, and became a target that Salem would eventually come for. For once, she had cursed herself for the color of her eyes. She had previously thought of her eyes as a way to help people, but all they had done was sentence her mother, and indirectly, every silver-eyed warrior that came after her, to a fate worse than death.
She shifted in the sand. A warm, moist wind blew through her hair. None of it mattered now. Because her eyes had failed her, and she had failed her friends, her family, and now she was here. She was dead. She took a deep breath of the salt-scented air. Her heart was rolling with emotions, but all she could do was sit there.
A new sound reached her ears, breaking the lull of birdsong. She instantly became alert. She quickly rose to her feet and snatched up Crescent Rose, brandishing it as her eyes scanned the treeline, where the noise had come from.
A crack of a foot breaking a twig, the rustle of a body brushing against leaves. She tightened her grip on Crescent Rose. A thought suddenly came to her. Wait. I’m dead. Whatever is out there can’t kill me.
The thought wasn’t very comforting, but she did relax her shoulders, keeping her eyes on the treeline, waiting for whatever creature was in there to emerge. Then she saw it, the flash of white, the gleam of silver in sunlight, and the furry black ears that twitched with each step.
Ruby lowered her scythe.

Motion Sickness 27.1
pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq
I wasn't the sort to dwell on what Weiss had wanted from me. Well I totally was. I dwelt on everything. I was a dweller. But I was also the sort to get my workout in anyways.
Really, my thoughts were on Eminence and her partner. The people I had killed. They hadn't acted like gang members or at least not like the picture I had in my head of gang members. What with the pleas for me to spare their lives and all.
Well maybe the picture I had of gang members was of non-people. Then when I encountered some people and killed them I was surprised to find out that they were the same as anybody else. They had died the same as everybody else would, or at least most people would; together, if they were lucky, and begging for their lives, besides.
Qrow wheeled out on me while I was practicing my Limit Breaks and just watched me move around for a long time.
"Enjoying the view?" I asked.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"How are you feeling, kid."
"Like a murderer and a liar."
"We both know why we had to keep it from Ruby. Now we just have one more favor from Ms. Malachite."
"Assuming she keeps her word. I don't trust these criminals as much as you do."
"She will. She has to uphold deals she makes in front of her men in good faith. Or else they'll start to wonder about their own paychecks. It's a little bit of honor amongst thieves. It's more to prevent backstabbing than out of any real sense of honor, though. Trust that."
"Gee, if you say it like that I really have no choice."
"Tell me how you really feel."
"I feel… all kinds of fucked up. I want to talk to Ruby about it but I can't and it's leaving me more fucked up."
"You know why we can't talk to Ruby about it. As far as she is concerned it's just one favor. Scroll keys out of Don Corneo."
"I'm supposed to just live with this. Live with myself."
"Yeah kid. Just like the rest of us."
"The thing is I think I can do it. I think I can do it easily , too. That scares me."
"Sounds too complicated for me. It sounds like you're struggling; just the same as I do."
I grunted and swung my sword at nothing. "It's not quite the same. And all I have to talk to about it is you."
"Easy kid. Have a drink. Relax. There's nothing you can change about it now and nothing you would want to anyways."
I inhaled a shaking breath. He was right. Qrow needed legs. I had to be the one to kill them. It had to be done. No one of my friends would have done it. Didn't that make it wrong? None of them would have approved. I already had the answers I needed. I just didn't like them.
"Who were they? What did they do to deserve having me come after them?"
"Does it really matter? Come on have a drink."
"I don't want to drink anymore."
"You need to relax somehow."
"I am. This is what I do to relax now."
This was how I'd relax for the rest of my life. I swung the sword fast enough that it made several satisfying thwump sounds in the air.
"Well, we wanted to discuss the matter of infiltrating Don Corneo's workplace with you." It was Ozpin. Someone I wanted to talk to even less.
"What about it? We don't need to risk Ruby or Nora now. And I don't need to wear a dress. We have Yang."
"I'm not super comfortable with my niece going in there."
"But you're comfortable with me killing people." I wiped my brow and glared at Qrow. "Your priorities are fucked."
"Easy on the language, now." Ozpin said with Oscar's mouth. "It's good that we have only one favor between us and getting Qrow back on his feet. Then, thanks to Ms. Xiao Long and Ms. Schnee being with us again, things are better now than they were yesterday."
"What does better for you even mean?" I wondered. "How do you handle the lying and the murder?"
"So long as they don't ask us about it, it's hardly lying. And from what you told Qrow you did kill somebody in a near bar fight. The story you told your friends merely bordered on the truth." Ozpin lectured. "As for killing it never gets any easier. And that's a good thing. Though we take life we don't make any light of it." I exhaled hard. It was no new advice. "And we don't make sport of it. I heard you encountered one of the people drafted to Salem's side."
"The Scorpion."
"Yes. Tyrian. There are others too. Others like Hazel Rainart. They would not be so disturbed by violence as you are. Let them serve as a counterpoint. Would the man who attacked Ruby and yourself be upset if they had killed someone? Perhaps. But not like you are now."
"I get it. I get it." I sighed. "You wanted to talk about the infiltration mission. I vote Yang."
"We should discuss it." Qrow interceded.
"We are." Ozpin and I said at the same time. That pissed me off.
"I don't like the idea of her in there."
"You think I have a chance in a dress? I can rock a dress but I'm missing a certain je ne sais quoi that Yang has."
"You didn't want Ms. Rose or Ms. Valkyrie to do it. Why Ms. Xaio Long?"
"Je ne sais quoi."
"Yes. I suppose so." Ozpin relented. "Over Ms. Schnee too, I suppose. Our Target has a predilection for the type who frequent such places. Ms. Xaio Long is a match for, at least in looks."
"She looks like a party girl who knows how to earn a little extra cash is what you're saying." Qrow wasn't happy about it. "I get it though. Maybe she is our best bet."
"She bragged about going clubbing at Beacon. She has experience I don't. Plus she has infinitely more time spent in a female body than me. She knows how to use it better than I can fathom."
"We should have a backup plan," Ozpin insisted.
"She can wear a wire and everyone else can be waiting outside. There's five of us in huntsman-shape. Speaking of shouldn't they be here for this conversation. Part of being open with everyone."
"I wanted to have a quick think-tank and see what you thought." Ozpin dismissed my jab at him. "Qrow trusts your instincts."
"I don't like any of it. I think somebody is going to get hurt. I think Don Corneo from what we know is a scumbag."
"And what do you think of Leonardo?"
I faltered for a moment. "I don't trust him. I don't like how Cinder and her allies snuck past him." If Ozpin thought hard about it he would see how I don't trust him either. I snuck past him. I could have gotten myself or somebody else killed.
And he picked me over some more qualified student who had a better, more authentic resume. He chose me anyways. Why? Was he incompetent? I sure used to be. Or could he actually see my potential and what I would become and thought it was worth the risk.
If so, then it was a hell of a risk. I could have been one of Salem's agents if only I wasn't such a failure. He trusted too easily in any case that was kind to him.
"If you don't mind me asking, uh- Mr. Arc, how did you get as strong as you are?"
It was Oscar this time and I was stumped for the question. I found my gaze flicking over his head to Qrow for a second who only offered me a shrug.
"What do you mean?" I wondered. "And it's just Jaune."
"Jaune, then. It's your mentality. You have this mindset that sets you apart from everyone else."
"I wasn't always this jaded. If you want strength look at Ruby." Emotional or physical.
"It's not that or at least not just that. I've already asked her too. She's something special. You are too, though. Even with the fate of the world as it is, you still train day in and day out and do everything you have to, even if it hurts you. You've even killed people. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you're not afraid of the dirty work."
"It's not something to be proud of but Qrow's done it too."
"But he's not our age. Or your age, at least."
"I have to. I suppose. Or my friends, those that are still here, will bite it too. That keeps me going. What's left of my team and Ruby's team too."
"Can you teach me?"
"How to have friends? Haven't got a clue. Sorry."
"Not that. I need somebody to teach me swordsmanship. How to use my weapon. Or start to until Qrow is back up."
Qrow gave an enormous sigh from the chair. For my part I hesitated again. I wasn't the sort, didn't have the training myself. But this was one of those things I wasn't sure I could say no to.
The right thing to do would be to teach him. Pyrrha would want me to. Ruby might even ask me to. That pretty much sealed it.
"I won't take it easy on you." I drew the long sword and posited the cross shaped shield on my back. "Can't afford to."
"Really? That's fantastic! I was worried you didn't like me. Wait is this one of those things where you mean right now?"
"Why? Are you too busy?" I mocked him. He took it as friendly teasing. And it was, at least to some degree. The kid was not Ozpin. Not yet.

There was something in the basement. In the tall white house in the middle of the woods where my sisters and I lived with our mother something definitely lurked away in the dark dusty corners of the underside of our house.
I had to be the brave one. I was the oldest. I was a guy. It was time to be a man. It was time to stop being afraid of the shadows which hung on the walls under soft grey lights.
I’d been in the basement a thousand times and I’d been fine literally every time. But still I was afraid of our basement. I was scared of shutting the lights off and walking up the stairs and turning my back on that total darkness. It was just so empty and complete.
No lights penetrated within and the lights which did shine in the basement were dull and weak. It was always dark down there. It was always dusty and had the faint smell of iron or copper.
I went down to get a gallon of milk for my mother. A little errand for a big boy. It should have been no problem for me.
I walked down the stairs. This was the easy part. I turned on the lights and everything was fine. Dark still. But it was fine. There were no Grimm or other goulish monsters down here. It was fine, I reminded myself that frequently and with force.
You’ve been down here so many times and nothing bad has happened a single time.
That didn’t stave off my irrational fears. Just because I knew a fear was irritation didn’t mean I could suddenly control it. We don’t choose our fears any more than we choose what food to like. It was automatic. It was outside of our control. And the dusty smell of iron pressed in on me as I opened the fridge. The light inside the fridge was brighter than the grey lights of the round bulbs in the ceiling. This was the easiest part. It was the part when the room was most lit up.
I grabbed the jug of milk from the shelf easily enough. There was no problem to that at all either. I was strong enough for this. I turned around. I saw little Lily standing in the stairs by the door. Her eyes bulged in their sockets and grew strangely to cover most of her face in a distorted wave like fashion. Her nose and lips and ears shrank and all her hair fell out. She started screaming.
It was a high pitched wail that made my bones and ears ache. Then she shut the door on me slowly and turned off the lights. I was locked in the basement. Alone in the dark with the cold milk jug in my hand.
I raced to the door and fumbled blindly for the handle. When I finally grasped it it was only to discover the door was locked from the other side. I retreated back into the room and dropped the jug. The plastic shattered and milk went everywhere. It coated my legs nice and cold. I crawled on all fours. I searched for the fridge with reaching hands. A square corner. It wasn’t here. It must be to the left. In the total darkness I found the fridge and opened it to get some light. To get some respite.
Inside the fridge was a skinless, hairless, eyeless thing. It twitched it’s head on it’s neck and turned towards me without eyes. With long limbs it crawled out of the cold fridge and towards me.
It grabbed me by the ankle when I fell back and away. It stood there eclipsing the light in its naked glory. Its limbs were much too long and thin and its body was small and round. It picked me up with it’s one hand and sank its long teeth into my ankle.
I woke up with my ankle humming with a vibrating pleasure. It hurt, yes, but it also felt strangely pleasant. I… I rubbed my ankle in the real world. I stroked softly so the skin slipped swiftly there. It felt good. But I was on edge with fear and adrenaline. The sensations combined into a luring grotesqueness that was a pleasant sensation.
“Jaune…” My mom’s voice whispered to me. I heard it clearly in the soft night. There was no buffer or noise machine. It was silent in the room Ren and I shared.  “I will always be your mother.”
Sometimes, in the throes of a nightmare, when unseen powers whirl one over the roofs of strange dead cities, it is a relief and even a delight to shriek wildly and throw oneself voluntarily along into the where the ginning mist yawns.
I checked a clock. It was four-forty five. I could probably get back to sleep if I really tried or wanted to. I didn’t really want to try. I laid back in the bed. I deserved worse than nightmares for the shit I had done. I was becoming something of a monster myself. Five. I’d killed five people. I’d elegantly unmade and twisted five coils until they certainly weren’t.
I sighed heavily and loudly as I laid back in the bed.
I needed to get out of the rental and clear my head. I need to clear it in a way which didn’t involve shooting myself which was a touch more tempting than I was really letting on.
I got out of bed and got dressed quietly. I made my way out of the rental and onto grey Mistrali gravel. The upper floors really were beautiful. But boy oh boy were the lower floors ugly. In a lot of ways it was two different cities entirely.
The sun was yellow and barely peaking out over the horizon. Beams of course light stretched through the air and I breathed deeply. It was refreshing and crisp this early in the morning. I muddled my way along through a market square clearing. It wasn’t busy but there were people out. I walked past the closed bazaars.
A brown haired girl spun in front of me and I stopped. She had deep green eyes and a red ribbon in her hair. She had to look way up at me to meet my eyes and I stared at her for a moment.
She reached into the basket by her side and pulled out a little white rose. “Here,” she said softly. “For you.”
“A flower?” I asked.
“That’s right.”
I looked away from her. “How much?” I wondered.
“That depends on the customer… for you, no charge. Sound fair?”
“Why?”
“You look like someone who could use a flower,” she returned easily and breezily enough that I thought she might float away.
I reached out a gloved and gauntleted hand. I took the delicate stem gently from her. I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I tucked the stem under a strap of my armor.
“Thanks,” I managed.
“Don’t mention it. Have a good day, now,” she bid me and just as swiftly as she appeared she was gone. She weaved her way through the openings in the early crowd. I blinked after her. I was unsure if I really saw her at all but I had the evidence of the encounter pinned to my chest.
I made my way down into a busier street.
I took in the sights of the shops on either side of me. One place was selling those little miniature trees that you trimmed. I wasn’t sure what they were called. There was a jewelry shop next to it and it was still closed. There was a dress shop with something elegant and purple hanging in the window. I stopped and stared at the dress. It would match Yang’s eyes well enough. I glanced a little along in the other window and spotted a flowing red gown which I bet Ruby could rock like no other. It was crimson like the tips of her hair and seemed to have petals flowing around the waist of soft silk. Her eyes could make anything glow and I was sure she would look like a distant dream in this dress.
I shuffled along.
I was suddenly shoved aside as I passed a bakery. The window display confections shattered and a man stumbled out with a cash register under his arm. He bumped into me as he dashed away from the broken window. Inside the bakery some fresh smell was emanating and a fat man in an apron shouted out. There were other customers inside. It smelled of coffee and baking pastries inside. They were open early it would seem. They were robbed early.
“Stop that man!” The man in the apron shouted.
The man with the register under his arm took off down the street.
I activated my semblance with a flex of will and took off after him. My feet… Ren was right. I didn’t touch the ground as I pursued my quarry on a pocket of air. I reached behind me and drew the longsword from the shield. The long triangle shaped blade ran down to the far too long red handle. I gripped it comfortably.
I front flipped in a thirty foot arc that ended with me landing easily in front of the burglar. People gasped and parted around me like I’d made a crater and they seperated around the running man as well. He stopped running with a slide and stared at me with an open mouth.
“Drop it,” I leveled my sword at him. “You can walk away if you drop it.” I watched his whole body tense up. “Don’t,” I suggested harshly.
He went for a gun. I crossed the distance between us in a sapphire blur. I swung my sword up into his hand where he held the gun and collided with green aura. I knocked the gun out of his hands and into the air. I stepped in and shoulder checked him off his feet. Before he landed I swung diagonally down from the right, then diagonally down from the left, then across the bottom in horizontal cut, then one last arching upwards swing that flung him back into a wooden box. He crushed it and his aura dissipated around him.
He dropped the register when I hit him.
He made to crawl towards the gun but, still Limit Broken, I glided forward and took actual walking steps where I kicked the gun off to the side of the street and far away from us. I continued my march and connected my boot with the side of his head in a swift sideways kick with the toe. He fell back and slumped over into unconsciousness.
I stepped away from him and felt my glow dissipate. The power was gone.
I didn’t feel particularly good as I reclaimed the register. I sheathed my sword and walked back down the street and through the gathering crowd. I walked into the bakery over shattered glass which crunched under my feet. I set the register on the counter.
“Thank you, young huntsman,” the baker said.
“It was nothing,” I returned. And it wasn’t. This meant nothing to me.
“Let me offer you a croissant and coffee. Please. Allow me to thank you earnestly and generously from my heart to yours.”
I looked away from him over his head at the fairly crowded establishment. Some people had left but many remained. Some were still partaking in their coffee and pastries even through the chaos. Sure, most had stood up to get a look and were now staring at me and there was a line near the counter of people still mostly organized.
“Fine,” I agreed with a glance back down at the baker. “I’m in no hurry.”
“Thank you. Please, won’t you have a seat. What’s your name?”
“Jaune Arc.”
“Just a moment,” I watched him go behind the counter and pour a coffee and grab a roll. He came back over to me and put them both in my hands.
“Thank you,” I murmured.
“No. Thank you.”

I walked back into our rental. The police had gotten involved and had had a few questions for me but after that I was free to go.
I ran into Weiss in the kitchen. She turned around and stared at me from where she was washing some mugs in the sink.
“Jaune…”
“Weiss,” I greeted.
“I had the chance to talk to Ruby,” she informed me.
“And?”
“Well, I still think you’re being self destructive. But I see why you wanted me to talk to her. She told me about you two.”
“I figured but couldn’t assume.”
“Where’d you get that?” Weiss asked. She pointed at the little white rose pinned to my chest.
I took it off my person with my gloved hand. I stared down at it for a moment. Then I held it out to her.
“It was a gift, I think,” I said. “Here.”
“Shouldn’t you give it to Ruby?” She wondered. She reached out and took it anyway. She held it up to her nose and smelled it. “It smells like Ruby,” she breathed. “Thoughtful of you.”
“It’s really not. It’s nothing. Besides, I don’t think Ruby is much in the way of gifts. She prefers spending time with me. She doesn’t want presents.”
‘Not even a single little rose as a sign you’re thinking about her?”
“If she doesn’t know I’m always thinking about her by this point I have no clue how to make it stick,” I sighed. “I mean who does she think she is with those tights and that corset?”
“She’s very good looking,” Weiss agreed.
“She’s drop dead gorgeous,” I confessed. I blinked at Weiss. “Of course you are too.”
“Oh?”
“Oh come on. Your entire team is? Ruby doesn’t have any idea but you know. You know that you’re good looking.”
“What makes you say that?”
“You knew that you were out of my league,” I said. She blinked at me. “We can talk about it. It happened. I had a crush on you.”
“I didn’t reject you because I was better looking than you,” she scoffed. “Though you’re right to say I am.” She gave me a small smile.
“Total ice queen,” I laughed. “I don’t know what Ruby sees in me. So shoot. Tell me why.”
“Tell you why she’s into you or tell you why I rejected you?”
“Both.”
“I’ve met a hundred guys who could actually pull off what you were going for at Beacon. You couldn’t even play the part well. You couldn’t even pretend like you were all that. It was dishonest. And you weren’t even good at lying. So you didn’t even have that going for you.”
“You would have liked me if I was good at lying?”
“It would have been something at least. You came at me with a big ball of nothing. You know it and I know it.”
“So what does Ruby see in me? What did Pyrrha see in me?” I asked openly. “I’m mean, come on. I’m not much. And they are both out of my league by miles.”
“Well. You probably weren’t coming at them with a fake personality. I can only assume that they saw the real you and they liked it.”
“Stupefying,” I confided.
“Is it?” She pressed.
“Little bit.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m not much. We went over this. I’m a ‘big ball of nothing.’”
“Are you nothing? It sounds like you put your life on the line for Ruby.”
“Well yeah. I’m nothing and she’s a good person. What decision was there to be made in that? It’s no contest.”
“You’re not ‘nothing.’ You came at me with nothing. They aren’t quite the same thing.”
“Don’t bullshit me. You saw straight fuckin’ through me at Beacon. Don’t hesitate now.”
“I don’t know. I suppose we’ll just have to see what’s there and what’s not.”
“I’m telling you that it’s not a lot.”
“But it isn’t ‘nothing.’ Is it?” She leveraged down on me. She pointed her chin upwards at me as she said it.
“And that’s enough?”
“Enough for what?” She challenged.
“Well, ideally making Ruby happy.”
“It might be. Is what it is worth something? Are you valuable down there at the bottom of yourself?”
“Probably not,” I admitted.
“Well I don’t know,” she confessed right back. “I never got to see the real you.”
“You never wanted to try,” I fired.
“You never gave me the opportunity to try,” she breezed. “If we’re honest you would have tried that fake personality on any date I gave you. So why would I bother?”
“Honestly?” I asked.
“Honestly,” she agreed with an elegantly quirked eyebrow.
“I’d like to believe I would have surprised you,” I said.
“Is that right? So you want to impress me?”
“Always have,” I returned immediately.
“I suppose we’ll just have to see about that,” she folded her arms and leaned back on the counter. She had her lips turned up in a little smirk.
I looked away first and pushed my hand through my hair. I clicked my jaw closed.

[Lewd!!!!]
Anniversaries, they’re important as hell. You would think after the first one that it would be less important or you don’t have to be as extravagant. That’s really stupid logic, and luckily Oscar wasn’t stupid. However, he was sad. Today marked the three year anniversary with Penny as his girlfriend but she had work tonight. Now he was in his shared apartment watching movies on the couch upside down with Jaune. It wasn’t terrible, but Oscar would much rather be doing his best to show Penny a good time at the beach picnic he’d plan. The moon was full tonight and everything!
The movie soon reached its credits and Jaune looked over at his clearly lovesick roommate. “Wanna watch another movie?”
“I didn’t really want to watch this one, and why am I the only one watching these upside down?”
Jaune tilted his head to see the boy's expression. “Because I was tired of seeing that sad pouty face. Buck up! You rescheduled your date for this weekend. That’s two days away!”
“But it feels less special…” Oscar groaned.
Jaune looked at him in disbelief. “I swear you’re just a male Ruby. She thinks like that.”
“I don’t know how I feel about that coming from you. Are you coming on to me Jaune?” Oscar smirked to make him uncomfortable. “Did you pick me as a roommate because I remind you of your girlfriend? How scandalous.”
Jaune chucked a pillow at Oscar and caused him to fall over on the floor and laugh. Jaune would be mortified but at least Oscar was smiling.
“Do not make those jokes young man! I fully believe Ruby would be down to clown with both of us now that you’re eighteen.”
“Uhh, I’m taken, remember?”
“Do you honestly believe Penny wouldn’t okay it? Ruby set you two up and your girlfriend is nice enough to let Ruby pull a crazy idea like that.”
Oscar’s face turned a little red. Jaune was not wrong. Penny would totally say “sounds neat” then give him a thumbs up. That was the thing about dating her, she was curious about everything the world had to offer. Especially with relationships. Not that he wasn’t, but such an idea was….
“Keep your mind out of the gutter Oscar.” Ozpin chimed in, internally. “Typical, haven’t slept with anyone and yet you fantasize the more advanced things. Oh virgins.”
Oscar’s face got redder.“Shut up! Just because you know I thought about it doesn’t mean you gotta bring it up.”
“Someone has to call you out on it.”
“Then let it be the person who actually pays rent.”
“Oh I’m sorry, who got you your job? Who works the night shifts when you’re sleepy? Maybe I should lock myself away whenever it’s time to pull a double?”
Oscar sucked on his teeth for a minute. “Oz…” he said kindly, “Let’s not fight, or do anything drastic.”
“Look at the tv.” Oz said bluntly.
Oscar looked at it to see his reflection. It crossed its arms and rolled its eyes before returning to normal. Oscar knew he was the only one seeing that but it never stopped being weird. Especially after the marathon of horror movies he did with Penny one time. Oz made sure to use every scare tactic imaginable that night. He just can’t help himself sometimes.
Jaune finally found another to watch but didn’t get the chance to play it. The doorbell rang, causing him to spring up and answer it.
“Expecting someone?” Oscar asked.
Jaune looked through the peephole and smiled. “Kinda sorta” he opened the door and Penny jumped inside the room wearing Oscar’s green flannel and ripped blue jean shorts: along with brown snow boots. A picnic basket was on her left shoulder and Ruby around her right.
“Happy Anniversary!!!”
“PENNY!!?” Oscar screamed. He immediately stood up to look less lame and opened his arms to his rapidly approaching girlfriend. He wasn’t expecting her to jump into his arms though. Oscar braced his body for impact but was surprised when she landed in his arms no heavier than a regular girl. 130 pounds at best, which was nothing to him. He could swing her.
“Hey you’re in you’re in your polymer shell. I thought you had work?”
Ruby raised her hand. “I stole her.”
Jaune and Oscar looked at each other highly concerned. They didn’t need Atlas military busting down their door and dragging them to jail. Ruby broke out into a laugh from their expressions.
“Relax, I’m just joking. We begged James. He’s such a softie.”
“I’ve also put in more hours than usual in preparation for this day!” Penny kissed Oscar’s cheek and couldn’t hide her excitement. Not like she ever did. In a way, she was like Ruby but more outgoing. Oscar couldn’t help but think about what Jaune said earlier. Maybe Jaune saw all of us like Ruby. That’s a weird thought.
As happy as he was, Oscar couldn’t help notice the picnic basket.
“Penny, is that for the food?”
“Of course! What else would I use it for?”
Oscar let out a defeated sigh. “I don’t know but we should figure that out because I didn’t cook anything because we rescheduled.”
Penny opened her mouth but nothing came out. She turned to Ruby who was face palming. Jaune clapped his hands together and mimicked Oscar’s sigh.
“Welp! At least you two are together!” Jaune smiled, saving the positive energy in the room.
“Yeah!” Penny tossed the basket on the couch. “Home cooking isn’t the most important thing. Who needs it?”
Ruby went to their fridge and opened it. She couldn’t believe just how food was stuffed in it. Oscar was going all out this time. Ruby closed the fridge and pulled out their pots. “New plan, the two of you cook the food and have dinner here. It would suck for the food to spoil.”
Oscar thought about it. “What about you two?”
“It’s an anniversary, not a double date. We’ll just go to my place.” Ruby answered.
“Why does this sound like an elaborate plan for you to sleep with Jaune?”
“Hahaha! I don’t need a plan for that.” Ruby smiled at Jaune but he squinted at her.
“Just because it’s true doesn’t me you have to say it.” He grabbed his shoes and took his girlfriend by the hand to leave.
Ruby waved her friends goodbye and winked before closing the door. Oscar thought Ruby was a little more gitty than usual. It had been a couple of weeks since her and Jaune were together so something was bound to go down between them. Penny took off her shoes and put her hands on Oscar’s shoulders. She positioned him over the couch and made him sit.
“Ummmm Penny?”
“Since I made the plans derail, I’ll cook and you find something nice to put on for the both of us okay?”
“But that’s kinda unf-”
Penny leaned down and pressed her lips gently against Oscar’s. The kiss felt like it was minutes long but must’ve only been several seconds. Strange, it felt a little warmer than usual. Penny pulled back and smiled her usual beautiful smile, then walked to the kitchen. That kiss scattered Oscar’s thoughts, so he stared at the tv for a minute before remembering to find a movie. If he objected then Penny would simply stun him with another kiss. A nice way to say “shut up”but she’d probably end up burning food if he constantly distracted her.
Oscar grabbed the remote and began scrolling, his reflection in the tv moving on its own again. It paced from side to side while rubbing his chin.
“Don’t you find this a bit odd?” Oz asked.
“Yeah, please stop walking in front of the synopsis.”
“That’s not what I- sorry.” He stepped to the side. “I was referring to your anniversary.”
“What’s so odd about it?”
“You had plans, had to reschedule, then the plans went back to normal unexpectedly, but it’s fine because Ruby already had a solution that works well for everyone. Even Mr. Arc didn’t seem too surprised.”
Oscar shrugged, “You think too much.”
“Gah! So you’re not even going to entertain the idea of something going on? Though I suppose since Penny can’t lie, this could really be coincidence.”
The clicking and presses slowly came to a halt. Now he was rubbing his chin. What Oz said was true. Penny can’t lie because she’ll hiccup however, she didn’t tell him in person. Penny texted him and Ruby can plan tricks as easy as killing grimm. Oz sensed Oscar’s doubt.
“You know I’m right. No way they would just forget that you were in charge of food and had to cook it. I’m sure there’s a harmless explanation but you know, keep your wits about.”
“I could just ask her.”
“Boring but effective. Whatever floats your boat.” Oz finally left the young man alone to his devices. Oscar didn’t appreciate the jab he just took.
“Pfft, you’re boring.” Oscar directed his attention to Penny. She was so focused on preparing the meal that she hadn’t noticed he was looking right at her. He really was lucky to have her. She would probably say Oscar was exaggerating but he genuinely believed that she gave him all the happiest he could ever ask for. Days simply couldn’t be terrible as long as Penny stood by him, even when things got rough. Scheme or no scheme, Oscar didn’t worry. He knew Penny. Good intentions ran through her more than anybody else on Remnant.
xxxx
“Food’s ready!” Penny chanted as she carried two plates with steak, sliced potatoes, and fresh greens over to the small coffee table in front of the tv so they can watch movies while they eat. Oscar never got enough of her smile. It might’ve been because he was a little hungry and he knew her cooking was better than his but right now, Oscar wanted to marry this girl. One day hopefully, on another anniversary.
“Have I ever told you how happy I am to be with you?”
Penny’s face grew a little red. “All the time, and yet it still feels unreal admittedly.” She rubbed the back of her head and laughed sheepishly. “I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.”
Oscar gave her a quick kiss and smiled. “Happy anniversary. Wait here while I get your gift.”
Her eyes lit up with excitement as she watched him walk off to his room and come out with a small rectangular box. “Aww, you didn’t have to get me anything.”
“Penny, you built me a car last year. I can’t reach that level of awesome but I’m at least going to spoil you every chance I get. It would be a crime if I got you nothing.”
“You make it sound like building a car would be hard. It’s way easier than most of the things Atlas military creates on a daily basis.”
“No matter what you say, you’re not gonna downplay that gift. Anyways…” he handed her the box.
Penny wasted no time unwrapping the paper and opening it.The girl’s eyes got bigger and let out a gasp. “Oscar, is this…” she pulled out a golden chain that had a heart shaped locket on it that had intricate carvings of what looked like branches. Her finger lifted the top up and inside was two gears that spun. One green, and the other orange.
“No matter the inside, you’re as natural as nature itself.” Oscar said. “I’m not the greatest at making things like this but-”
“I love you.”
Her words caught him off guard and made his heart skip a beat. He looked at his girlfriend who had gotten a little teary eyed. She put the locket on and gave a heartfelt smile. “Well, how does it look?”
“Perfect…” that was all Oscar could manage to say. He didn’t know why but he felt so embarrassed. She never failed to make him feel so flustered. That’s love for you, it always made every minute feel extraordinary and uncharted territory.
“So...I guess it’s my turn to explain my present to you.” Penny said, anxiously rubbing her finger across the couch cushion.
“Man, I thought the highlight was the surprise appearance and you cooking dinner. There’s more?”
“Oh yeah.” Penny laughed nervously. “Oscar, you know you always say that you’re perfectly happy with the way things are between us, despite us not necessarily being a normal couple?”
“Yeah, why?” Penny could hear a bit of concern in his voice and started getting frazzled.
“Don’t worry! I feel the same way!” A hiccup came out right as she finished that statement, making her cover her mouth instinctively. Now Oscar looked really concerned.
“Umm, you sure about that?” He asked, pensively.
This conversation was going nowhere fast. Penny tried to do collateral damage as fast as she could.
“No no no, it’s not what you think! Honestly I’m super happy. It’s just….”
Oscar raised his eyebrow and tilted his head. “Just…?”
This was harder to say than Penny thought. The words were there but she couldn’t put them together right. All that information at her disposal and here she was, struggling with simple sentences. Penny took a deep breath and started over.
“Oscar, you love me the way that I am. You’ve had since the beginning. I didn’t have to change a single thing about me but I did anyway so we could enjoy each other’s company better. Like this polymer model so we could do things like go swimming.”
“Yeah, sinking to the bottom of a lake wasn’t the best first date experience.”
They both chuckled at that memory. Time sure did fly.
“Precisely. Then there were other upgrades over time to help me feel more human. Receptors for, taste, eating in general, heat, touch…” her trailed off.
Oscar’s focus was broken for a moment when the sound of Oz’s voice started speaking to him.
“Oscar I’m going to lock myself in your head for awhile so don’t expect any help with anything. Good luck.”
He wasn’t sure what Oz meant by that but he didn’t get the chance to ask before he felt the man’s presence leave. Oscar focused on Penny again who had gotten closer to him on the couch. There was practically no space between them as they sat side by side.
Oscar felt Penny take his hand. Had she always been this warm? Felt this...soft? It was more natural than usual. Maybe she got another upgrade? That was common.
“Oscar, I...I feel so normal around you. Things that usually make me feel out of place, well I don’t get that feeling with you.”
“I feel the same way. As far as I’m concerned, we are a normal couple Penny.”
“Then shouldn’t we be doing normal couple things? The things Ruby and Jaune do?”
That question lingering in the air momentarily for Oscar as his girlfriend stared at him, red blush spread across her face. His own face started to get red the more he acknowledged what Penny had just said. He watched the girl lean closer to him until he had no choice but to prop himself up with his forearm as Penny took the bold move to straddle him. She gently took his hand and placed it on her right boob, squeezing it slightly. Oscar felt like he was about to pass out.
“P-Penny?”
“I didn’t have work today.” She admitted. “With the help of Ceil, Ruby and I managed to get me some upgrades I’ve wanted for a while. Like better touch sensitivity, the way my skin feels, and other...components.”
Both of them were a blushing mess at that last part. Oscar was smart enough to know what she meant. The reason however, that escaped him a little.
“Why go through all this? I mean, I never went into this expecting you to do something like this for me.”
“Because even if you’re happy with me emotionally, I don’t want to rob you of the physical experience a real girl could provide. I know you try and I hide it but you’re still a boy with needs.”
He couldn’t deny that. There were many times he looked at Penny or thought of her in a physical way that made his imagination go a little rampant. He was young after all, and she was so beautiful. Oscar felt a little guilty for not being upfront about it with her and avoided her gaze. Penny reached for his face though and turned it back towards her. She wanted to see those beautiful eyes of his when she confessed.
“ I did it for myself as well. Oscar I want to be close to you, feel connected to you. Doing this, is a thing I put a lot of thought into. I wanna try at least once. So please, will you have sex with me?”
She was nervous, down right terrified of what Oscar might say. Was this too much as once? Would he deny her request? Oscar was just looking up into her eyes silently with no indication on what was going through his mind. Penny was beginning to think this was a terrible mistake and removed his hand. She started to move off of him when Oscar suddenly sat up. His hand wrapped around her waist and Penny yelped as he placed her on his lap. Now they’re face to face, inches away from each other with red tint darker than Ruby’s hair.
“Oscar?” Penny whispered, anxiously waiting for him to speak. The way he leaned in compelled her to do the same.
“Penny, stop saying you’re not a real girl.” Oscar pressed his lips against hers. He could feel them tremble slightly before returning the embrace with more than equal force, rubbing Oscar’s chin at slightly pulling down on it to slide her tongue in. The sudden act gave Oscar shivers and made him pull her in closer. This wasn’t their first kiss like this, but it was definitely the first time it made Oscar this anxious. The tension he felt right now to stop himself from going too far or fast felt like he was playing tug o'war against a Goliath. That feeling went away the moment a small and fleeting warmth hit his face. Oscar broke off the kiss to see Penny teary eyed. The girl let out a giggle and started wiping them away.
“Penny are you okay? Did I-”
“Don’t worry, it’s not you. Well it is you technically.” She lightly giggled again. “I’m just really happy right now, that’s all. Let’s keep going okay?”
Her arms went on either side of his shoulders and wrapped around. Oscar gave the girl what she wanted and went right back to kissing her. She felt warm, very warm. Oscar couldn’t explain it but made him want to touch her more. Before he knew it, Oscar had leaned forward until Penny had no choice but to lay down on the couch and let him hover over him, not that it bothered her one bit. To see him be this into it was exciting to say the least.
The feel of his lips ended again when Oscar had no choice but to catch his breath Penny was ready for him to come back for more but was surprised when his face went past her own. Suddenly her body flinched the moment she felt him kiss and nip at her neck. Now she really didn’t know what to feel! This was something he hadn’t done before but it made her hard to lay still. His teeth gently grazed her until one nip sunk in more than the others.
“Aaa~” a moan finally slipped out from her and Penny quickly covered her mouth while Oscar stopped to look at her, also surprised. He honestly wasn’t sure if that was going to do anything for her. Apparently it did.
“You good?” He smirked.
Penny nodded and uncovered her mouth. “I don’t think I’ve ever made that sound before.”
“Well...today is going to be full of it hopefully.” Oscar grabbed the bottom of his orange shirt and pulled it over his head, freeing him from the stuffy fabric.
Penny only watched from underneath him. It was hard to believe when they first met that he was shorter than her and tiny. Now he was 5’10 and had a physique of an expert huntsman. His shoulders had gotten broad and there was practically no fat on him. His chest widened out and he was cut! Ruby had compared him to a pro swimmer before. His skin had gathered a handful of scars over the years. A couple along his torso and a few more faded ones on his arms. She was pretty sure there was more on his back too. Him and Jaune were almost the same bulk. It made her wonder if Jaune had looked like Oscar at fourteen. That thought was interrupted when the feeling of his fingertips went across her collarbone and down to the first bottom of her shirt. He had kept his gloves on for some reason but honestly, Penny thought it was pretty attractive. Ruby has clearly influenced her taste.
It only took a few seconds for Oscar to unbutton her shirt completely.
“Woah...” Oscar said without thinking.
He hadn’t noticed earlier but she wasn’t wearing a bra like usual, probably so he wouldn’t fumble with it. Today really was planned. That didn’t make seeing Penny’s bare chest any less of a hurdle. They were somewhere in the middle of Weiss and Ruby’s, but perkier. Not to mention her nipples were real pink and a little puffy.
Penny could feel his stare on her and it made her turn her head to the side. Something about it made it really hard to think and breathe a little heavier, which only made Oscar more turned on. It didn’t help that she was technically still in his shirt and the necklace he just gave her dangled around her neck.
“You’re breathtaking…”
His words made her face feel hot and ears red. “Can you not stare too much? It’s embarra-ahhh!”
Oscar’s hands gently grabbed the orbs and massaged them as he bent down and started kissing her stomach, scattered with freckles.
His kisses were slow and deliberate. Causing Penny to moan or gasp anytime his tongue pressed against her before his lips sucked on that spot as he made his way down her now arching body.
“Oscar…” was all she could manage to moan. How was he so good at this? Was he good, or was she a lightweight like Ruby had described to her? She just knew she liked this feeling. It was easy to understand why people talked up sex, why Oscar was so clearly eager despite not telling her directly. Her eyes shut tightly every time his thumbs methodically traced around her nipples, causing her to suck air in through her teeth. The fact this was foreplay only made Penny more excited for the main part.
Finally she was given a moment to relax. Penny propped herself up with one forearm to see Oscar unbuckle her shorts. Penny raised her hips up again for him to pull the fabric off, flinging it on the ground. Despite the flannel, she only had frilly pink panties on now that had become more than a little damp. Oscar thought now would be a good time to remove his own pants. He sat up to undo them but Penny unexpectedly grabbed his wrist. Her face at waist level to him as she was on her hands and knees, while Oscar rested on his knees.
“Let me.” She said in a voice that Oscar couldn’t begin to describe, but it made him gulp. Penny’s nimble fingers made quick work of the button and purposely slow work of the zipper. Oscar lifted one leg up at a time for her to pull his pants off. Now they were more or less in the same boat in terms of nudity. Penny couldn’t help but stare at the bulge in her boyfriend’s dark blue boxers. She reached out to touch it and wasn’t expecting to hear Oscar let out a light groan as it throbbed in her hand. Penny looked up to see Oscar red in the face and avoided eye contact with her.
“Did that...feel good?” She asked, genuinely wondering.
“More than it probably should’ve.” He admitted. “It feels different when...it isn’t me touching it, better.” He added.
“I see, do you...touch yourself often? Penny didn’t know why but asking such questions felt so overwhelming. Her hand gave the clothed shaft a few more gent strokes, earning another groan. Penny didn’t know Oscar’s voice could sound so husky and deep.
“Every so often.” Oscar couldn’t stop his hips from pressing more into Penny’s hand until she hooked his waistband and pulled his boxers down. She let out a little “eep” the moment his manhood sprung out. It was different from textbooks, bigger. Half a foot maybe? It was about as wide though. Penny put her hand around it as much as she could. She wasn’t expecting it to feel so hot, so alive. Her hand started stroking it without even thinking. Again she was rewarded with the sound of Oscar’s voice. Penny really liked that voice. Another personal question came to mind that she couldn’t help but know.
“When you touched yourself, did you think of me?” Her breathing got a little heavy asking that. It was enough to make Oscar twitch and throb even more in her hand.
“Yes!”
Penny had no more questions, nothing else going through her head. Just the reaction to close her eyes and wrap her lips against Oscar’s searing length, gradually sinking her head down it before coming back up to the top, then down again.
“F-Penny!!!” Oscar shouted. He tried his best not to buck his hips but he couldn’t help himself. Penny used her free hand to grab his and rest it on her head. Her tongue slid around his manhood while she picked up the pace. His attempts to stay gentle made her really happy but it was clear to her that Oscar had forgotten something he didn’t have to worry about with her. Penny had a lot of things that made her more human in terms of design, a gag reflex wasn’t one of them.
Every second, Penny could feel him move more and more. All she could taste and smell right now was Oscar and the arousal that leaked out of him. Penny hummed lightly which only Oscar thrust a little harder, turning the hum into more of a moan. It didn’t take long before the sound of Oscar moaning joined the mix of scandalous sounds in the living room.
“Wait Penny, Penny I’m…!!!”
She was too lost in the moment to really register his plea. A couple of moments later and she felt Oscar grip her head especially tight, his body tensing up as he came. The taste from earlier had suddenly gotten a lot more potent. Penny’s eyes widened as ropes of seed were shot into her mouth. Still, she kept sucking just a little longer just to make sure nothing spilled out when she finally removed herself from him. Unsurprisingly, he was still hard. Ruby had told her that it was pretty common for young men to recover in no time at all, especially if they’re pent up.
Penny sat on her knees and looked up at Oscar, who had gotten a little sweaty and was breathing heavy. She was feeling pretty proud of herself right now.
Oscar had a million feelings right now and didn’t know exactly where to start. “That was… really good.” He huffed. “Let me get you a napkin so you can spit-” Oscar saw Penny gulp down his cum right before he could finish his sentence. If he wasn’t hard and blushing before, that would’ve done it.
“Sorry, what were you saying?” Penny said, still chipper about what just happened.
“Nothing, just…that won’t mess anything up internally will it?”
“Oscar if I can eat food then I can swallow.” She said, grabbing her drink on the small table next to them to wash down whatever might’ve remained in her mouth.
It was hard to argue with that logic. Penny wouldn’t do anything that would compromise herself anyways, he hoped. She did like magnets after all.
Penny put the cup back down next to their untouched food and wrapped her arms around Oscar again. She pulled herself back onto his lap to get a kiss that had somehow gotten more feverish than last time. Oscar’s hands went immediately to her soft and plump rear, grasping it firmly before pinning Penny underneath him again. This was good, she really wanted him to take the lead on this one. The way his erection poked at her inner thighs told Penny she didn’t have much of an option to begin with.
Oscar slid his right hand up her leg and under the then layer of fabric she had left to touch her soaked lips directly. The hold she had on him tightened while she gasped into their kiss. He kept trailing up and down his slit until his middle finger barely pierced her entrance. The heat and grip surrounding the digit was enough on its own to make Oscar shiver.
“I wanted to return the favor of going down on you, but I don’t think I can wait.” He groaned, centimeters from her ear.
“I’m perfectly fine with that. I want you inside of me.” Penny lifted her hips again. Her panties came off faster even than her shorts did, Oscar practically tossed them across the room, making her giggle. She liked this side of him. He was still caring but also very assertive in a way that was new to her.
Penny let out another moan as she felt his length rub against her. Oscar locked eyes with her and gave her a quick peck on the lips.
“This way you don’t have to worry about me staring too much.” He joked. “I love you Penny Polendina.”
Her hand gently reached to grab her new necklace, her other and rubbing the side of his face. “I love you too, Oscar Pine.” She returned the chaste kiss, which quickly turned into a passionate one. Penny bent her knees more and spread her legs wider as Oscar began sliding into her hot entrance. She shut her eyes and moaned deeply, his manhood only a few inches in.
“Go slow please!” Penny gasped. Her body felt weird, but also really good. There was also a slight mixture of pressure that gave her a little discomfort as she was slowly being spread open. Penny could still feel pain after all. If you wanted to experience something good then you had to accept the possible flip side. That was good though. Pleasure, pain, good taste, bad taste, having the full range was ideal; it was normal.
Oscar did his best to go slowly. The way she coiled around him with such heat made him want to lose composure so badly, but he fought the urge. It took a minute before he was finally completely inside of her. Oscar took her left hand then interlocked their fingers. He had never seen Penny look winded before. It was...kinda cute.
“Are you okay?”
“Sen...sational” she giggled, out of breath. It had been awhile since she said that. “You can move when you're ready.”
“You sure?”
“Positive”
Oscar kissed her forehead. “I’ll start off slow.”
“Thank you…” Penny felt so weak right now and she didn’t know how to explain it. All she knew was it felt great. Not only that, being with Oscar like this made her happier than she could’ve imagined.
Oscar carefully started to pull out to the very tip before sinking back into Penny’s depth, making both groan all over again, again, and again. It didn’t take too long for Oscar to get to a rhythm of rocking his hips into Penny. Any pain started to subside and leave pleasure in Penny’s wake as she held onto Oscar by having her arms around his body. Oscar could feel Penny dig in a little into his back the more she moaned and got lost in the moment.
“Faster…” She finally moaned. Oscar didn’t delay in giving her what she wanted, what they wanted. His hips picked up the tempo until the couch started to creak from their love making. Any thought about controlling her moans were thrown out the window. Penny couldn’t resist moaning his name with every thrust that struck her deep inside. The only time noise went down was when the two kissed deeply.
Oscar brought her left leg up and around his lower back, while the right one dangled off the couch. This change in position brought Oscar even deeper than before; to the point Penny’s body arched again, rubbing against his.
“Gods Oscar!” She moaned, “You’re so deep” Penny found herself trying to sync up with Oscar’s rhythm, finding it the moment he grazed a new spot within her wall that made the spasm and Oscar bite down on her neck again.
“You’re so tight. So...ahhh! Penny!” Oscar couldn’t think straight. He could only keep rutting into her like a beast in heat. The apartment echoed the sounds of him slamming into her. It was a good thing he had aura, Oscar might’ve gotten a bruise otherwise. They found themselves staying like this for several minutes. Touching, tasting, hearing the intoxicating pleasure the other was making. As if it was the only thing that would sustain them. If it were up to them, this moment would’ve lasted forever, but neither of them could resist the intense urge building inside of them.
Oscar sat up and grabbed Penny’s hips, stabilizing the both of them as he continued to pump into her. He couldn’t help but stare at the womanhood that enveloped his length. The sight of her arousal covering and dripping off of his length only shortened his fuse. Oscar wanted to cum so badly but not alone. His thumb slid closer inward and started grazing her clit every time he thrusted into her. It gave him the results he was looking for. Penny started gripping the couch cushions and her voice started to get even more pleading.
“Oscar~!!! It’s too much!” She whimpered.
His own limits were finally reaching their end. “Cum Penny! Cum whenever you feel like it.” A thin layer of sweat started to coat Oscar as he tried prolonging the inevitable. “Fuck I’m so close!”
The pressure inside Penny just kept building and building like a knot that kept going pulled tighter. Until finally…
“OSCAR!” Penny felt that knot snap. Her walls mercilessly gripped Oscar with a grip that made him cave in at last, erupting rope after rope inside of her. She felt each one and made her shiver. Penny’s face went completely red. She couldn’t imagine the amount Oscar came. It was more than earlier! Oscar’s body finally came down from the adrenaline and he fell right next to her, thoroughly exhausted. Another thing Penny didn’t have to worry much about. Granted she was a little tired, but could easily be active for days on end still.
The girl looked at her tired boyfriend and rubbed his face. “You okay?”
“Happy Anniversary” he chuckled. Penny did the same and kissed his lips quickly.
“I’m gonna get dressed, put the food up for later, and then we can cuddle here?”
“I don’t deserve you. You’re so wonderful.”
“Not as wonderful as you are. Seriously, thanks for accepting me for me, but also still be willing to accept more of me. Letting me grow, change, and try to feel more...you know.”
“I will always support any version of you that you want to become. Forever and always. My other half.”
“My soulmate.” She rubbed her fingers through his hair as he started to doze off a little. Penny happily hummed and got up to clean.
Oscar laid comfortably on the couch. The presence of Ozpin slowly returning before he fell too deep into sleep.
“Good job. Personally I would’ve used the bed conveniently in the other room but hey, things happen fast.”
“Please tell me you weren’t watching all that?” Oscar groaned.
“Of course not, I believe in privacy. It’s not my fault you’re replaying what just happened. It’s kinda unavoidable, sorry.”
“I don’t care, I just can’t believe it went so well”
“I can, muscle memory remember? This might’ve been your first time but you have a massive pool of prior knowledge. Completely blowing it wasn’t gonna happen. I told you good luck for confidence.”
“How’d you know this would happen? Prior knowledge?”
“Oscar, it could be a faunus, human, android, or Salem, certain cues from women just do not change. I saw it coming a mile away.”
Oscar yawned and sunk deeper into the couch. “I guess it pays to be immortal. You know a lot.”
“A blessing and a curse. Like I know for a fact there’s no way Pietro approved or even knows about this scheme, or whatever upgrades she got for this occasion.”
Oscar’s eyes opened back up. There was no way Oz was wrong was wrong about that. If Oscar wasn’t tired, he’d be freaking out. Instead he simply closed his eyes again.
“I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.”
xxxx
Ruby laid on Jaune’s bare chest in bed as she went through her scroll during the movie they were supposed to be watching. Their clothes were scattered everywhere and they couldn’t be happier.
“Hey, I got a text from Penny. Looks like the plan worked.”
“Good for them.” Jaune said, playing with her hair. “Pietro is gonna murder him for sure.”
“Good thing you boost aura and healing.”
“Oh, so that’s your grand scheme. Hey, I’m happy to serve.”
“Yeah you are.” She puts down her scroll and straddles Jaune. “Think you can serve me at least one more time?” She took the remote away and smiled.
Jaune couldn’t help but smile too and flip her over to be on top. “I’m always up for your schemes” the two kissed and enjoyed their time together.

Writer’s Month August 2020 - Day 19
Day nineteen of the challenge…Maybe I can’t count. Maybe nineteen is the new fourteen.
Day 19, Prompt: De-aging
Fandom: RWBY
Ship: Cloqwork, Ozqrow, Qrow x Ozpin (this ship has a lot of names..)
Rating: Teen and up
Summary: Qrow and Ozpin take a long overdue moment to talk. Set during Volume 5, after they reach the safe house in Mistral.
Excerpt: Since then they’d had no time to themselves, with the time Oscar could maintain the connection still limited and only to be used for making plans and fighting practice. It tore at him to see the moves he knew as well as his own, could counter only due to their familiarity, performed by another. It was like seeing Ozpin from the corner of his eye, feeling his body lift and react, then turning and focusing to realize it wasn’t him. Over and over the same scene had to be acted out, with Qrow feeling like his heart broke anew every single time. He’d always known his heart was a scarred, dilapidated thing but now...it was getting ground from gravel to dust. Because every time he forgot, and hoped for seeing Oz, his ascent was cut short and it hurled him back towards the ground again. With no Ozpin to catch him when he fell. He’d have to learn to do that for himself again.
Tags: Angsty angst angst but also sort of sweet?
Notes: I’m lucky that this ship basically provided answer to “de-aging” prompt in canon. Still, please note there will be no Oscar/Qrow because I find it squicky. Any romance mention is when Ozpin is in the driver’s seat, and only with Oscar’s consent.
Done Deal
Love, in Qrow Branwen’s opinion, was the shittiest hand fate could deal you. And his cards had been dealt a long time ago. On a normal day it wasn’t something he’d thought about a lot. He had sex, and lots of it. He had people he liked, people he wanted. But in love? He’d been in love with the same man since before his seventeenth birthday. It was just one of those facts of life, like how hangovers sucked and your flask was sometimes empty. No use crying about it.
That was before he’d had that love. Like a door had been thrown open his life had suddenly been cast into vivid colours, full of sensations he hadn’t even known he’d been missing. He had tasted the crescendo of passion, where all was fire, hot and urgent. He’d known the gentle, the slow and the intimate. The bond born from sleeping next to someone, night after night, sharing breakfast, moving around another’s space as they both readied for the day ahead. He had felt the fear - like nothing he had ever known before - the fear of losing it all, only lessened when he had seen him. A restlessness inside only soothed by his presence.
Fourteen years of marvels. Fourteen years of his safe haven. Fourteen years of joy, of fear, of sensing a bond that was invisible, yet stronger than steel.
Then he’d known loss. Unmoored and floundering, his anchorage ripped away, leaving him alone in the storm. Only his responsibilities had kept him from going under. He’d had them to his nieces, to his brother in law. To him. He had to carry on his work now.
Now he had a shadow. The man he loved lived on, in mind, in the head of a boy young enough to be his son. The voice he knew better than his own, coming from the slight chest of a teenager. Whether it was his semblance - could there be worse luck than falling for someone who was only ever living on borrowed time - or Ozpin’s curse didn’t really matter - he just knew those words from long ago were true. Where you seek comfort you will find only pain. They had sought, and found it, in each other, and now that meant only pain.
“Hey.”
He turned around in the kitchen to see Oscar behind him.
“Pipsqueak.”
“He..” Oscar’s green eyes slid away over the floorboards. “He would like to talk to you.”
They both knew who “he” was.
“Fine, go ahead.”
“No,” the boy’s ears’ reddened. “Not here. In private.”
Qrow’s throat drew shut. He wasn’t ready for this.
“Maybe he...We...should leave that for now. It…” he ran his hand over the back of his neck. “It can’t be easy for you to hear that...stuff.”
The boy seemed to listen to what was in his head for a moment.
“He says the same. He doesn’t want to make me uncomfortable, but I’m fine.” He squared his narrow shoulders. “There’s...There’s a lot he wants to say and it makes me feel...strange. I’d...I’d rather you talk.”
Qrow gritted his teeth. It wasn’t as if he knew they could carry on interminably without ever acknowledging the love of his life was dead, but his mind lived on inside another. To acknowledge the sliver that was left was more painful than it would have been to let Oz go completely. “Fine.”
He picked up his glass, thankfully full, and headed for what had ended up his room. Habit ensured it was positioned to keep an eye out both ways, as well as being within earshot of all his young charges at once. Oscar trailed after.
Entering the sparse room, he sank down to sit on the bed, knocking back a healthy gulp of the whiskey. The teen stopped inside the door, fidgeted, then sat on the rickety chair in the corner. Putting his hands on his lap, he drew a deep breath.
“Kid, you really don’t have to put yourself through this. It’s weird enough for you right now.”
Oscar shook his head. “No, I...I’d like to. I can sense he wants to talk to you.”
Qrow sighed, rubbed his hands over his face. “Fine. Go ahead.”
For a moment all was quiet.
“I’m here.” That voice. That deep, well-modulated voice that had haunted his dreams since he was basically Oscar’s age. It drove a blade into his chest to hear it every time. His body reacted to it on instinct and he squashed the confusing impulse to reach out.
“What is it?”
It freaked him out to see how the kid’s posture straightened, how his body language became so familiar, yet in the body of another it was nothing but cruel mockery to him.
“I thought...We...We haven’t had time to speak alone since the bar and…”
Qrow remembered the bar well enough.
He remembered how the pipsqueak had appeared, how Ozpin had taken over once he had his cane back. He’d managed to stop himself from hugging the boy and completely freak him out. But the voice was there, the normally slow cadence hurried.
The memory of it played in his head like it had numerous times before, a broken record stuck on one track, unable to move on. Like he was.
“I don’t have much time, Qrow, Oscar still can’t maintain a connection so you can hear it for very long. We need to get to the academy in Mistral, now.”
“The school?”
“Oscar will explain but before that I...” the boy who barely reached his chest stepped forward and for a moment his hand fluttered like he was reaching for him. Then he let it fall. But Qrow could see the intention, the same one he had.
“Gods, Oz, this is...I…”
The boy’s eyes began blinking faster, Ozpin’s voice breaking when he said “I miss you.”
“I miss you too.”
But the eyes watching him held none of the experience they’d had a moment ago. Qrow swallowed, again and again. His eyes were hot and he noticed now his hands were shaking at his sides.
The large green eyes below him were wider than before, and under his tan a blush rose.
“Ah...He...he heard you.”
Awkwardly he took a step back to widen the distance between them. After all, despite everything, they were strangers. And inside him lived the man that meant more to Qrow than life itself.
Since then they’d had no time to themselves, with the time Oscar could maintain the connection still limited and only to be used for making plans and fighting practice.
“We haven’t,” Qrow agreed, his mind returning to the present.
“Oscar’s control is improving so we should have at least a few minutes.”
Desperation clawed in his chest. “To what, Ozpin? What can we do?” He pushed to his feet, swiping an arm over his eyes. He knew Oscar was still there, still aware of everything that was happening. “This is...Gods, this is worse than losing you was. To...hear you, to know you’re there and still...It’s not you. It’s...it’s worse than cruel.”
He could see Oz almost turning in on himself, visibly feeling the same as he did. But with a deep breath he spoke with the same careful control as usual. The control he’d only ever let slip around Qrow.
“I know. I know it is. And I’m...sorry. I’m sorry I caused this. I never meant to get involved with anyone in this lifetime, I know it only leads to pain in the end but I…” The green eyes weren’t the colour of firewarmed whiskey but the expression in them were the same.
“Don’t you dare.” Qrow hissed, suddenly close. “Don’t you dare regret it.”
“Of course I don’t regret what we had. I regret this,” he waved a hand in an elegant gesture that cleaved Qrow’s heart in two. “What...what my weakness has cost you.” His head bent over the hands balanced once more on his cane.
“Your weakness?” Qrow kneeled in front of him so he could see his eyes. “Do you mean...dying?”
“In a way. It would have been kinder of me to never…”
He had to physically check himself from leaning in to touch. To wrap his arms around the waist of the boy who wasn’t the man he loved.
“No. No, it wouldn’t. I loved you, Oz. I always would, whether you loved me back or not. I always will. The only thing you caused me this way is that for a few years, I was happier than I ever thought possible.”
Oscar’s hands clenched around the cane, lifted to touch him the way Qrow had loved, those long elegant fingers trailing through his hair. Then it stopped, fell. There were lines they wouldn’t cross.
For a moment Oz’s focus flickered, then a small, humourless smile curled his lips. A smile much too weary for a boy whose face it appeared on.
“He says I can touch your shoulder.” Qrow’s head snapped up. “He can sense I want to touch you.”
Slowly, as if not to spook a frightened animal, the small, calloused and tan hand that had nothing in common with Ozpin’s except its intention, reached for him where he kneeled. The hand was small and warm, touching him with the familiarity of years.
“I love you.” Qrow closed his eyes, bent his head. Just for a moment, he wanted to believe the man he loved was really there. “I wish I could be with you, more than anything. But know I love you, always.”
Qrow’s breaths caught and the tears he hadn’t allowed himself spilled over. Hot and painful they ran down his cheeks as his chest struggled to keep up under the force of them. He sensed rather than saw that Ozpin kneeled on the floor in front of him. The hand on his shoulder squeezed, as if to imprint the sensation of it. “I love you.”
The responding words couldn’t make it past the tears as he cried himself dry.
When he finally looked up, he saw the tear streaked face of the boy in front of him.
“Oz?”
The boy sniffled, wiped his eyes with his sleeve.
“No, it’s me.” The voice was once more that of a young boy. “It’s just…” his breath caught a few times. “He’s so sad. He tries to shield me, I can tell, but what slips through, it’s…” The tears had made the dark lashes spiky and his brow wrinkled in earnestness. “It’s huge. He loves you a lot. I’ve…” He looked away, blushing slightly. “I’ve never felt anything like it.”
Qrow chuckled dryly despite everything. Sat back so the boy’s hand slipped from his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, kid. You’re young.” He looked up at the ceiling, blinking away the remains of tears. “You’ll find someone.”
“Never!” The vehemence surprised him.
“What?”
“I’ve seen this. It’s like you said, it’s...worse than cruel. You have to...know he’s in here but…” the boy gestured to his head. “But he’s not really...real, anymore. Is he?”
“No.” Qrow pulled his legs up. His forgotten glass on the nightstand was half full and he downed it. In a moment he’d go and find the rest of the bottle.
Oscar didn’t make a move to get up the floor, just sat back too. For a long time they just sat like that. When he spoke again, Oscar’s voice was hoarse.
“Do...Do you regret it? Loving him?”
Qrow slanted a humourless smile. “There’s no point in regretting Fate, kid. Loving Ozpin was a done deal for me, a long time ago.”
“But do you?”
“No. No, I could never regret finding out what loving someone like I love Oz is like. However much it hurts, however much I want to rage and scream at Fate, at the Gods, even at Ozpin, I...I’d never take it back.”
“It still sounds...awful.”
Qrow got to his feet, only slightly wobbly. On his way out the room, he ruffled Oscar’s hair. “That’s love, pipsqueak.”

Imagine: How miscellaneous RWBY characters express how much they love you.
RUBY ROSE: Little Red Riding Hood is flushed in the cheeks, incapable of containing her excitement to the extent you encourage herself to breathe before passing out. "You're just so cool, amazing, really cute, and I just really, really, really love you a whole lot! I can't believe you're dating me and oh my goodness I can't breathe-"
WEISS SCHNEE: Conveyed as the anime archetype 'tsundere', it simply depends on the circumstances. In your company, the heiress holds your gaze tenderly, delicately folding her hands together and speaking honestly. "I love you so much. Thank you for taking the time to know me, and letting me discover who I truly want to be."
BLAKE BELLADONNA: Distance has been asserted considering the past experiences shared with Adam Taurus - the Belladonna's daughter is mortified of what threat infatuation could pose. Yet you've seeped through those cracks; within, a timid, open minded and merciful girl desiring nothing but unity for everyone. She is smiling softly, ears exposed freely as they flick every which way. "I've been afraid for so long - but when you came into my life, I decided I didn't want to run away anymore. Now, I can fully admit I love you, and know you love me for me."
YANG XIAO LONG: "You actually stayed here with me," the bombshell blonde utters, implying abandonment was an emotional obstruction she faced more than desired. Her mechanical arm quivers under the pressure of her anxiety; but as she concludes you are there, you won't leave, she takes a moment to breathe. "I want to be there for you, like you always have been for me. You mean the world to me."
PENNY POLENDINA: Whether Professor Polendina invested in hardwiring the concept of romance or love into the robot's system, she was adapting to the idea. Little by little, she was learning more and more. Sometimes, Penny jumps to the opportunity to wrap her arms around your neck, squeezing the very life out of you. "I love you! I love you! You're the bestest friend I could have ever asked for."
JAUNE ARC: "I know most underestimate me - well, I'm sure pretty much all of Beacon did," Jaune laughs dryly, evidently wandering to the bitter moments of being seen as underwhelming, even by his own family. "But I know there's people who believe in me. Even then, I was so dumb, and ignored them, and once I realized they cared, they were gone. I won't make the same mistake twice. I love you so much, I can't bear to lose you like Pyrrha."
NORA VALKYRIE: Born a rambler, once her lightning strikes, there's no way out of it. "You're always just so adorable, strong, wonderful - mhm, Ren, more pancakes, please! - When you said you wanted to be together-together, I just couldn't pass the chance up!" Through a mouthful of ooey gooey, syrup soaked pancakes, she says, "I love yoooooooooooou!"
PYRRHA NIKOS: Destiny was debatable; was it predetermined, or was it belonging to you as you paved your own pathway along life? It was a definitive question the invincible girl pondered frequently. But the very fact you try your best to bring joy into her life, in spite of potential doubts of your worth? She is absolutely smitten. With a light stroke of your hair, and caressing your cheek, Pyrrha smiles warmly, "You are everything to me."
LIE REN: Ren relies on subtlety to depict his emotions. One could say his motto is "Actions speak louder than words." Indeed they do, considering whenever push comes to shove, his affection manifests itself in simple ways. Particularly holding your hand. You could be clinging to your very life line, hope fading as the world seems to be plummeting into oblivion. However, once the huntsman intertwines his fingers with yours, you realize everything will be okay on the end.
SUN WUKONG: His velvety smooth, cream yellow tail is embracing the branch haphazardly, as he awaits your presence. As soon as you stroll on around, the monkey faunus seizes the opportunity to execute his plan. Dropping down, Sun swoops in, kissing you square on the mouth as you emit a surprised squeak. "Love you, babe!"
NEPTUNE VASILIAS: It was gentle leaning, inspecting your features, admiring how lovely you were. He was a love sick fool - you had the flirty boy enraptured, head over heels, considering himself every term to describe how much he was falling deeper in love with you. Neptune adores you. "Gosh, you're cute," he smooches you on the cheek, How'd I get so lucky?"
COCO ADEL: Her expressions of love are never discreet; Fox, Velvet and Yatsuhashi are subjected to her attempts of showing it often. Before you awaken, the gunslinger equips an appealing color of her lipstick, and inscribes a few words upon the mirror. In the morning, as the time signifies you must rise to the occasion, you venture into the restroom, only to see what Coco had left behind. "I love you" written in lipstick, her signature emblem implying it was her.
VELVET SCARLATINA: Each picture was worth a thousand words - upon every photograph snapped, Velvet could sense the devotion, sweetness, heartfelt moments and even beyond emanating from the scenes captured. Thus, she compiles them to the best of her ability. The shy bunny is internally bouncing off the walls as she hands you the album she created, confessing with rosy cheeks, "Every moment we share reminds me of why I love you so much - so, I thought, why not show you all the moments we have had together?"
OZPIN: Millenniums were spent contemplating pensively, having people lose faith in him, watching everyone else perish as he was forced to wander the Earth. The academy's headmaster has suffered severely. The thought of having you cease to exist while his soul remains is ingrained his mind. But Ozpin concludes worrying for the future isn't going to be helpful. For now, he must cherish what he had. As he sees you sleeping soundly, and leans over, pecking your temple, he truly can say, "I love you to the moon and back."
GLYNDA GOODWITCH: Left to mend the broken pieces of a once content Vale, Glynda has suffered the hardships of immense, overwhelming grief. Ozpin was off to reincarnate wherever his soul wound up, students fled across the kingdom, majority barely seeing the light of day since the fall. But you didn't leave. As you raise Glynda up, explain how grateful you are for her efforts, how Ozpin and all the students are proud of her, she is reminded of why she fell in love with you. "Thank you for staying beside me in this time of hardships - you mean everything to me."
QROW BRANWEN: Alcohol flooding into his brain, the uncle of Ruby and Yang is spouting lyrical nonsense. You sigh in response to your beloved's irrational babbling, having his head rest in your lap. He is the equivalent of a toddler following a few or several alcoholic beverages. "I love you~" Qrow would confess constantly, trying to smother you sloppily in kisses, breath radiating the worst of odors before passing out. After waking up the next day with a hangover, the Branwen groans from the migraine, apologizing for his goofiness. "I don't know how you do it, but thanks for putting up with me."
WINTER SCHNEE: Family was a touchy subject to graze on in terms of a persuasive yet spiteful father neglecting his children unless they were needed to serve a purpose. All the soldier considered to be family, for the most part, was her younger sister, and butler, Klein. However, it's a rare sight to see as she disentangles her luscious white hair from its bun, and she is witnessed smiling so sweetly as she peppers you in brisk kisses. "It isn't often someone comes into my life and makes it more worthwhile - but you have helped me cherish it even more."
JAMES IRONWOOD: His body was composed not of flesh and blood; metal prosthetics filled the spaces of appendages deprived of him. Yet James was as handsome, wholesome, and endearing as he always has been. With the man's chest exposed, ebony bangs slightly out of place as you both had just woken up, you rest on the edge of your bed. He's breathing gingerly, as you stroke your thumb under the surface of his palm. Raising your hand to his lips, he kisses it, expressing, "I love you so dearly."
OSCAR PINE: He wouldn't be the kid he was prior to merging souls with a seemingly immortal man. No longer a farmer hand reduced to playing the role of feeding livestock and raking hay. Now, he was thrusted into the life of a new incarnation of the one meant to defeat an unstoppable force. Through it all, though, Oscar was falling in love. He plucked the loveliest flower he could find, stroking the back of his head nervously as it offered it to you. "I know there's so much going on right now, with there perhaps being a war, people trying to kill us constantly - it's just crazy. But you give me a chance to breathe. And, as silly as it might sound, I really love you for it."
CINDER FALL: Perhaps the wicked woman's upbringing was similar to Cinderella, yet she couldn't seek the happy fairytale ending her inspiration was fortunate enough to have. Or, at least, from what we have seen. To you, Cinder is an enigma, much to be explored as she is in pursuit for power. But you turn the tables as she stops the world to get off with you. Having you close your eyes, Miss Fall indulges you in her, lips touching yours endlessly, and you are on the verge of fainting from being so breathless. "Do not think - succumb to these urges to embrace me, and I shall never let you go. Maybe you and I can find that happy ending we desire, as we rise to the top, and all else fall."
ROMAN TORCHWICK: Smoke drawls from the cigar tucked in between his lips, the con artist grinning as you curled yourself around his waist. Being pummeled by fifteen year old girls weren't exactly confidence boosting, but at the end of the day, to have you be so loyal and endearing has his heart skip a beat. Roman parts the cylinder momentarily, "Dear, have I ever mentioned how much I adore you?"
MERCURY BLACK: One, two, three - the liplocks multiplied as the mechanical marvel covers your body in kisses. He doesn't hesitate to express his dedication, although preserves it for private settings, sprinkling playful banter here and there. The assassin's son swipes away any residue residing on your mouth, smirking, "Babe, you're my one and only - don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
EMERALD SUSTRAI: In your arms, the master of thieves believes she is finally at home, a safe haven where she can not worry about going hungry or being reduced to filth. She isn't manipulated to conduct misdeeds as she is by Cinder; you have compassion for her, saving the time to make her happier and make her feel loved. Really, Emmy never anticipated to receive such affection. But as the thief dissolves into your embrace, she whispers, "God, I love you."
NEOPOLITAN: As far as we are concerned, the killer queen waving around a lethal parasol cannot emit sound from her vocal chords. But verbal obstacles won't stand in the way of this tiny antagonist. Neo props herself up on her tip toes, fluttering her eyelashes innocently. No hidden intent, yet you have your worries. Of course, your expectations are evaded, as she stands on top of your feet, kisses your lips, and signs the typical romantic phrase for you.
SALEM: Externally, Salem appears monstrous, depravity consuming her as revenge drives her motives. Beneath the surface, however, the eternal being exposes gentleness, in which she nurtures you, raises you up, refusing to let you crumble. "I have lived as long as you can imagine. It's scarce, for someone to catch my interest as you have. Ozpin's dominion shall fall apart, so long as all is executed as it should. As I seize control, you will forever remain by my side. That much I can promise you, my love."
ILIA AMITOLA: "I always wanted Blake to look at me the way she did with Adam," the memory causes the chameleon's heart to throb undeniably, "I was hopelessly in love with her." Alternating accordingly to her emotions, Ilia's speckles changes to a pink resembling cherry blossoms.  "But now that I've met you, I can forgive myself for my past mistakes. I don't need to blend in - you love me as I am. And I love you just the same."

A microcollection of shallow and superficial RWBY meta, thoughts and headcanons
so anyway I'm new to RWBY and honestly I'm quite surprised as to how fast my brain's been thinking about every little detail about the story so far. These are just some of the things I've expressed to my friend over the past month.
---
Ruby's hooded cape, along with Qrow's, are symbols of their innocence and purity. Ruby's was whole the first volume, and now by volume six, we see the tears she's gotten in it. Much like Qrow's, it'll continue to disintegrate until it fades and loses its original brightness and most of its wholeness.
---
Salem: hey @god of light how can i bring my bf back
GOL: Life and Death are part of a delicate balance. I cannot do what you ask of me so.
Salem:...hey @god of darkness how do I
---
If Jinn said that Ozma learned to live in harmony with the souls of the men who he coincided with, then what happened to the man we call Ozpin? Because now we know that Ozma is really a man that Ozpin shared his body with, but what happened to the real Ozpin? I'm being led to believe that Ozma locked him up or something and left him in the darkest recesses of his mind because we never once see him do the whole switching shit he does with Oscar. Surely we would have seen him once. And I'm having trouble believing that we never met a character that was right in front of our faces.
---
okay but why does Qrow wear a cross if they don't really have a Jesus??
i know crosses are supposed to ward off bad luck and all but if they say because "he has a cross to bear" i am murdering two people
---
if jaune has seven sisters, he was probably that boy that asked his parents when he was going to get his period, right?
--
i'm honestly still so shook and breathless over the raven-being-the-spring-maiden-reveal cuz she basically did the plotline equivalent of breaking cinder's ankles and literally dunking her, ball and all down into the abyss while qrowby and sahmelt lose it in the stands
--
hmmm beacon and signal are synonyms...if one of the schools is called Faro I'm losing my shit
---
when they finish fighting the nucklavee and ruby runs to qrow, an orchestral version of bad luck charm plays while the patrol shows up. now how lucky would they have had to be for the patrol to find them right there and then? OR RATHER the more appropriate question would be how close was qrow to death that his bad luck was fading a w a y?
---
But honestly if the V6 intro is alluding to the fact that Qrow's going to get kidnapped by Salem and RT just basically throws "Bird in a birdcage" symbolism at us and it happens as the Volume Finale, Aee'm Sooeeng.
BUT
following this up, i think i wouldn't exactly mind having qrow being kidnapped by her cuz,,,as long as they don't kill him off it's fine but like,,,,wouldn't it be the funniest thing if he did end up being captured and she had no idea what his semblance was? 😂Cuz like instead of having him be the bait and attract those meddling kids and their little dog too to her to get rid of them as fast as possible, all of a sudden, her plans start failing. her grimm end up becoming incompetent as hell trying to take down ruby and the gang and her cunt squad are having trouble taking care of themselves around said gang and salem is just,,,dumbfounded
like🤔🤔
Tumblr media
😂😂
---
i wish there would be a twist that the branwen twins aren't really twins but they're actually triplets but the eldest went missing because i guess that would spice up the plot somehow and i honestly want the symmetry of having a crow, a raven and a magpie.
cuz imagine if there really was a branwen triplet and instead of going to yang, raven's power would go to magpie...assuming magpie is female.
"But, now what?" Ruby pouts. "If Raven's gone, and she was the Spring Maiden; Yang doesn't have the power, so, who does?"
"What other women would have Raven kept close in her mind besides her own daughter," Yang scowls bitterly. "Maybe that Vernal chick, but hey, that bitch is dead, too."
"Yang," Qrow chastises robotically, looking at the floor.
"What," she snorts. "She thought her own daughter was so untrustworthy that she went an adopted some random girl from wherever to replace me! You saw how attatched-to-the-hip they were!" She scoffs, crossing her arms. "But, whatever. They're both gone now anyway. So, who do we look for?"
Qrow eyes her for a moment, inhaling deeply. Turning his face to the hole above, he sighs one name.
"Mags."

On Relationships
Oscar had to make sure he heard that right, pointing to where Nora and Ren were. "Wait a minute, they're not together?!"
Jaune and Ruby nodded, the male teen answering his inquiry. "Not officially at least."
Oscar cringed. "Oh wow, good thing I didn't say anything."
Ruby spoke up then. "Yeah, Nora would always get really defensive whenever someone said they were dating or together. She always say they were just friends and not 'together together'."
The situation was kind of confusing to Oscar. "But she's obviously love with him."
Ruby nodded in agreement. "Yep."
"And it looks to me like it's mutual for Ren. What's the problem?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe Nora doesn't want to scare Ren off?"
Jaune spoke up then. "That's not it. I don't know what Nora's life was before she met Ren, but I doubt it was particularly happy. The way I see it, Ren is the only consistency and family she has. I think she's afraid that if she does something, she might lose him. She values him more than she values a romantic relationship. That's why if someone makes a move, it's going to have to be Ren."
Both of the younger member of the group looked solemn, glancing at Nora endlessly commentating while Ren simply smiled.
Ruby looked a bit unsure of what to do with that while Oscar sighed. "Still, kind of a little jealous. There's nothing really standing between them and they are both sure of their feelings."
That got the other two's attention, Ruby the one who warily asked. "So Oscar...anybody back home you're thinking about?"
Oscar flushed, not really looking Ruby in the eye as he spoke. "Uh, no. I had a couple of crushes....but they never really went anywhere. Honestly, I think I was viewed as more of a kid brother by all of the girls at school."
Jaune patted his shoulder in understanding. "Hurts, doesn't it? And then of course there's 'At least we can be friends'."
"Yeah, that really hurts. Same thing happened to you Jaune?"
He nodded. "Yeah, my first crushes were on my sisters' friends. Of course, I knew those could never go anywhere. But then when the girls you've grown close to as friends you started like and then you see they like the other guys....that was the worst."
Both Ruby and Oscar looked at Jaune sympathetically, the scythe wielder being the one to comment. "Wow Jaune, I had no idea."
"Yeah, you know, that might be the reason I didn't view Pyrrha romantically for the longest time. Sort of like a self defense mechanism; labeling her mainly a friend in my mind while chasing after someone I know is out my league. At least I then I knew my chances were low. Speaking of which, I really to need to apologize to Weiss for being so annoying back then."
Ruby 'hmmed.' "From the way she talks about it, I think she's had worse. Kind of weird."
Oscar asked (taking great joy in the fact Ozpin wasn't commentating for once). "What do you mean?"
"I mean it's kind of weird to talk about this kind of stuff when I've never really had to deal with crushes before now. I mean, I know all about romantic kind of stuff, my sister's Bi so I got the full sex talk, but it's never really been something I needed."
The farm boy tried to ignore the slight happy urge at the fact. "So, no one's ever asked you out or anything?"
She shook her head. "Nope. Not really....though looking back, one time at Signal there was a boy that came up to me as if he wanted to ask something, but then he ran away. I guess he might have been trying to ask me out, but I don't know why he ran away."
Nora's jubilant voice interrupted the girl in the red cloak's musings. "Ruby, you need to take a look at this!"
Ruby walked over to where the other two were. "Coming!"
That left Oscar and Jaune to themselves before they heard a small chuckle of laughter. The two turned to find Qrow behind them, looking very amused. "Clueless as ever."
Oscar shot the man a dry glance. "Okay, I refuse to believe I am the first person to like her romantically. She's just too cute for that. So, what did you do?"
Qrow snorted, taking out his flask. "Oh please, I didn't do anything. Neither did Tai though he definitely would have if he hadn't been too busy with Yang's antics."
Jaune paled as he got the answer. "Oh no, Yang?"
"Yep. And let me tell you, the infirmary was not a pretty place that week up to the annual Signal dance. I almost pitied them. In fact, I heard from Tai that when Ruby got jumped ahead to Beacon, a couple of the poor saps broke down in tears. Apparently, they thought they might have had a chance with Yang going off to Beacon. They really shouldn't have monologued that in front of Tai. And they were really lucky that I wasn't there."
Oscar was still, his tan skin losing a bit of color, turning to Jaune mechanically. "Any advice?"
Jaune shrugged as he spoke with good intentions. "Well, at least she's not anywhere near here."
Qrow took a sip of his flask before speaking. "Yeah, lucky that. Until she eventual meets up with us and rips off your balls when she sees how you look at Ruby."
Life started to leave Oscar as Jaune patted his back before he yelled back at the drunken bird. "You rae not helping!"
Ah Rose Garden, I love you so, yet I enjoy watching Oscar flinch with the possibility of Yang's wrath. And for some reason, I tend to write Jaune a lot more introspective.
Next time, I'll post a link to a story I wrote. Its easier for me to do stories on Fan Fiction Net and drabbles on tumblr.

He was glad to hear the boy's voice fill in between his own; excited and interested. A nice change from the darkness he'd so clearly swallowed himself with. It made sharing his stories all the better, easing them out more naturally. Knowing that they shared the same annoyance of the man's jokes made him laugh a little, knowing that the older man would feel otherwise. But Ozpin always gained a bigger laugh from such reactions; like some kind of game he never lost.
The pranking brought him a laugh. He doubted that either one of them could think of something he hadn't done or tried yet. He knew every trick in the book and always took pride in that; evading even the craziest of situations set up for him. Tai always hated walking into his own traps, his laughs drowned by the angry screams shortly after everything blew up in his face.
Hearing that Oz hadn't, in fact, changed that much brought a soft warmth to his chest. His mind drifted to stories he'd been told in his office, out on missions, in classrooms; all of them merging together like one, big, long movie. A movie that knew no bounds and always left him on a cliffhanger, craving more.
He thought of the stories he could be telling Oscar, fingers sliding across his mug slowly, a gentle smile rising to his lips. Teaching was his specialty; slipping small lessons even into the dumbest of conversations. It was like a bad habit he never worked out of his system. There was no on or off switch for his "teaching mode," it was simply there - always. Just another part of the wonder of Ozpin.
But he didn't miss the fact that Oscar noticed how little the man spoke about himself; always avoiding the subject at all costs. Qrow considered himself lucky on that front...he'd heard plenty of stories. All of which he kept locked away forever, tucked safely inside his heart to keep it beating.
He blinks then, the sudden mention of himself surprising him. His eyes drag toward the boy, watching him silently, taking it all in. Like he was reaching a part of Ozpin himself, tapping into his own conscience through the boy. It gave his heart a resounding whump; his chest tightening in a way that made the hairs rise on the back of his neck. It made his palms sweat, his torso suddenly growing numb against the emotional wounds slashing open.
Oz was still in there, obviously, but having the knowledge thrust into his hands in the form of nostalgic habits and quirks was jarring. It threw him back several months, just a short time, to their last meeting. Their last sense of normalcy before everything came crashing down. It reminded him of the bond they formed, transcending even that of reincarnation.
But of course it had. He'd spoken to the man countless times afterward; he knew that. Was there ever a doubt in his mind it didn't exist?
No. It wasn't that. It was the fact that he had to rely on memories rather than present day experiences. He had to pull out their moments of quiet and calm to collect himself at night, not bust into the office as a beligerent drunk ready for a good bedtime story. He had to remind himself that he was doing the right thing, rather than simply look at the man and see the answer in his eyes.
It was different. And while he'd come to the understanding that that wasn't a bad thing, it still stood true.
It was fine, he'd tell himself. They'd make do.
And they had. They always did.
But gods...he never realized just how badly he wanted to see Ozpin.
He clenched his jaw tightly, but not soon enough. The emotions pushed over his tear ducts, racing off his chin as he breathed, "Yeah...I miss him too."
Qrow sighed heavily, an angry hand rushing up quickly, swiping the liquid sadness off his face. He frowned deeply, his legs pushing him to stand as he murmured quickly, "Sorry."
Frustration was hot in his stomach, cursing him for reacting so uncharacteristically. Maybe it was the stress of Watts, of Winter. Maybe it was everything taken together and exploding out into emotions he hoped to quell for an eternity. Regardless, Oscar didn't need any more problems than he already had. He'd started talking just to avoid dragging the boy further down; not knowing how else to lift him back up.
Idiot.
Qrow turned away, his legs pulling him to the kitchen as he hoped to ignore the rapid thumping in his chest. The nervous anxiety that always prefaced the bubble of a sob swelled in his throat like a lump. He was not doing this. Not to Oscar. Not to Oz. Neither one of them deserved it.
He released a deep breath between thin lips, setting his mug on the counter with a loud thunk. Everything inside of him screamed to be let loose, but he refused. Now was not the time.
So he swallowed it all down, a skill he'd nearly perfect after Summer's passing, and opened the fridge.
"Ah, anyway--" his eyes scan the contents, desperate to avoid the topic of his momentary weakness. Desperate to keep Oscar away from that inner part of himself. Desperate to not be the reason for depressing him.
"You hungry, kid?" He realizes how stiff he sounds, but he doesn't care. He simply cares about steadying his heart. Silencing his roaring, selfish needs. This was about Oscar.
Put him first.
"I can whip something together for us real quick."

Mini Fanfic #475: Two Guys and the Farm Boi (RWBY)
12:00 p.m. at Vauco
Oscar: (Looks Around his Surroundings in the City of Vauco) This place is even more lively than I thought it would be.....
???: Yo! Lil' Oscar!!
Oscar: (Turns and See Two Familiar Faces Making their Way Towards Him) Oh. Mr. Wukong and Mr. Vasilias. Good Afternoon.
Neptune: (Chuckles Lightly) C'mon, man. Mr. Wukong and Vasilias are our old men's names.
Sun: (Ruffles the top of Oscar's Hair with a Bright Smile on his Face) He's right, kiddo. Just Sun and Neptune are fine with us.
Oscar: (Chuckles Lightly from the Hair Ruffling) R-Right. Sorry about that. I'm always like when I with people.
Sun: It's all good. I take your going solo today?
Oscar: Yeah.....The gang already left to another mission they were mission assigned to an hour ago. They're worried about my safety as usual so they wanted me to stay here. Are you guys going out on a mission too?
Neptune: Nah. We already finished ours yesterday.
Sun: Neptune and I are heading to the beach. You wanna come with?
Oscar: (Genuinely Surprised) Wait. You really want me to come with you guys? I-I mean, I don't wanna be an bother or anything.....
Neptune: (Smiles Brightly) Of course we want you to come with us. It's a perfectly good chance for us to get to know each other more, you know?
Sun: (Smiles Softly) And you're definitely not a bother to any of us. You're one of our pals. (Ruffles the top of Oscar's Hair) And any friends of Blake is a friend of ours.
Oscar: (Smiles a Little) Well....if that's really what you guys want, then count me in.
Sun: (Pumped his Fist up in the Air) Alright! Operation: Three Bros at the Beach is Go!
Neptune: Yeah!- Wait. (Turns to Oscar) Shouldn't you tell the others that you'll be gone all day first?
Oscar: I wouldn't be so worried about that. I already written a note back in the hotel room, saying I'll be back and everything. Plus, I already texted Ruby earlier just in case.
Sun: (Shrugged) Good enough for us. Now let's hit the beach!!
.......................................................
Neptune: ('Took a Deep Breath') Okay......Here goes nothing.....
Neptune slowly but surely begins to trying setting his foot down on a very small wave of water.....only for the larger wave to appear
Neptune: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! (Immediately Runs Away from the Waves) NOT WORTH IT!!! NOT WORTH IT!!! NOT FRICKIN' WORTH IT!!!!!
Oscar: (Stares at the Whole Scene in Complete Disbelief) So..... He's afraid of water....
Sun: (Already Facepalms in Embarrassment) Yep.
Oscar: But.....His name is literally Neptune.
Sun: ('Sigh') Yeah.....I know......
.................................................
Oscar: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) You wanna do what now?
Sun: (Smiles Brightly) Set you up on a date, my guy.
Neptune: You technically are teenager after all. Nothing's wrong with meeting the ladies your own age.
Oscar: That is true and all, buuuuut....I think I'm gonna pass on the offer.
Sun: Seriously? How come?
Oscar: Well....To tell you guys the truth, I...(Starts to Blush a Little) Kinda already got a girlfriend.....
Neptune: (Eyes Widened in Shocked) NO WAY!! For real?!
Sun: Dude! Congratulations! Who's the lucky lady?
Neptune: If you don't mind us asking, of course
Oscar: W-Well....T-The girl I'm.... currently dating now is.....(Took A Deep Breath Before Speaking Again) Ruby.
'Record Suddenly Scratch'
Neptune: (Let his own Drink Slip off from his Hands While Being Shocked by Oscar's Answer) ............
Sun: (Eyes Widened in Complete Surprised) ...............Ruby. As in Ruby Rose.
Oscar: Yes.
Neptune: As in the girl with the red, hoodie like cape thing.
Oscar: Yes......
Sun: As in the girl with a giant scythe, gun hybrid for a weapon.
Oscar: (Facepalms While Sighing in Embarrassment) Yes............
Neptune: As in the same girl who likes eating chocolate chip-
Oscar: My god, you guys, yes! It's Ruby. As in Ruby Rose. The same Ruby with the red hoodie cape, a red scythe for a weapon, the one who loves cookie, and the leader of her own team, with a 'W' on it's own name. That's the Ruby I know and love!!
'Silence'
Oscar: (Blushes in Bright Red) S-Sorry! I.... Didn't mean to yell like that.... Really didn't even know what went over me there......
Sun: Dude..............(Smiles Brightly) That is so awesome!!
Neptune: (Smiles Brightly as Begins to Ruffles Oscar's Hair) Yeah, Lil' man! ('Sniff') You're already making us proud here......
Oscar: (Sighs Heavily in Defeat Before Slowly Smiling a Little) Thanks......You guys. Really.
.........................................................
Neptune: (Stilling Running Around in Fear) AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Oscar: Okay, Seriously. Should we try to calm him down or........
Sun: Nah. He'll tire himself out...... Eventually......
...................................................
Oscar: Okay. I think that's enough about me in this conversation....What about you guys? Are either of you dating anyone?
Sun: Nope. We're still single.
Neptune: (Smirks Confidently) Not to brag for anything, buuuuut....I usually get all the digits from every girl we see and meet.
Sun: ('Heh') Yeah right. I bet all of them gave you fake numbers after your so called 'Neptune Charm' goes haywire.
Neptune: (Glares at Sun) Hey! My charms never gone haywire!
Sun: (Raised an Eyebrow) Oh really? Then name me one girl you actually got a real number from.
Neptune: (Was About to Give Sun a Definitive Answer.......Only to Realize He Really Couldn't Think of Anything and Begins to Look Away, Pouting) W-Whatever!
Sun: Uh-Huh. (Turns back to Oscar) Now, as what I was still say, Mr Failed Ladies' Man over there and I are still in Singles-Ville. I did had a crush on a girl once......
Oscar: Really? Did it work out between you two?
Sun: Eh. Not really. I realized sooner or later that the girl wasn't really into me like that. She....Already had eyes on someone else.....
Neptune: (Frowns for his Best Friend) Dude......
Oscar: (Frowns as Well) I'm sorry, Sun......
Sun: (Chuckles Lightly) No need to worry about me, you guys. I'm still good friends with the girl and everything, I'm just not the one she's looking for romantically. I promise you there's no hard feelings between any of us.
Neptune: (Place his Arm Around Sun in a Supportive Matter) Well.....if you're really okay, bro, then that's good enough for us.
Oscar: Yeah. A-And I'm sure you'll find someone for you eventually. So try not to give up hope yet, okay?
Sun: (Smiles Brightly) You got it! Thanks, guys.
..................................................
Illa: (Makes her way to Sun and Oscar While Carrying an Unconscious Neptune) I finally calmed Neptune down......
Sun: Tased him?
Illa: Yep.
Sun: (Turns to Oscar with a Smile) Oscar, I like to introduce you to our new friend, Illa.
Illa: (Smiles Softly to Oscar) Hello.
Oscar: (Smiles Softly as Well) Hey.
..............................................
Oscar: So......there you have it. Professor Ozpin isn't really dead. He's.....Been inside my self-conscious this entire time. Hence the reason why I decided to travel with the gang and became a wizard in training. (Sips on his Drink)
Sun: (Shocked in Awe) Woah........
Neptune: That's.......Pretty sick, kiddo.
Sun: But in good way!
Neptune: Yeah!
Oscar: (Very Surprised by Sun and Neptune's Optimistic Behavior) Wait. You..... really mean that?
Sun: Definitely.
Oscar: So...... Neither of you guys are mad at me? Or not even try to let your frustrations out on me or anything?
Sun: (Frowns Sadly in Surprised) What? Buddy, no. We wouldn't do that to you.
Neptune: (Frowns as Well) Yeah. Why would you think we would- (Eyes Widened Once Realize Something) Oh...... I'm..... guessing the everyone didn't take it too well once they found out the whole news, huh?
Oscar: ('Sigh Heavily') Yeah........ Let's just say that the past few months and almost year of my quest wasn't anywhere of being a happy time....I got punched in the face, shoved into a wall, get yelled at on some occasion, and I was even shot at one point..... All because of everything that deals with Oz and Salem's past together. It's also because of their stupid truth issues, but that's beside the point.
Neptune: Ah....Dude......
Sun: I'm sorry, man.......
Oscar: It's alright, you guys. I just......('Sigh') Sometimes, I wish everyone in the entire world would stop seeing me as Oz, his host, a meat shield or whatever. And I know that Ruby and the others already love me for who I am and all, but even that doesn't stop everyone else to think otherwise. Like they're expecting me to have all the answers when I don't even know a damn thing anymore. It's just gets..... really tiring, you know?
Sun: Hey, man.......(Smiles Reassuringly) We totally get where you're coming from in all of this.
Neptune: (Smiles Reassuringly as Well) Yeah, man. I mean, granted, we can't entirely relate with the whole wizard-professor being inside your head or anything, but we do get what it feels like to being put on too much pressure and expectations from some people.
Sun: You don't need to keep worrying about what other people think about think about, Oscar. Because to me, Neptune, and all of our other friends, you are definitely your own person. And if anyone thinks otherwise, then that's all on them. They'll never to see how cool and amazing you really are to us.
Oscar: (Begins to Smile Sincerely as he Wipe a Tear off his Eye) You guys, I......Thank you. Thank you so much.
Later that Mid Evening.........
Oscar: (Happily Walking Alongside Sun and Neptune) Thanks again for inviting me to the beach with you guys. I had a really great time today.
Sun: (Smiles Brightly) Not a problem at all, Lil' Bro. Thanks for hanging out with us.
Neptune: (Smiles Brightly as Well) Yeah, man. You're a pretty cool kid, you know that?
Oscar: (Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth While Blushing a Little) Thanks. You guys are pretty cool too.
???: (From a Distance) OSSSSSSSCCCCARRRRRR!!!!!!!
Neptune: (Noticed a Group of Very Familiar People Making Their Way to From a Distance) Wait......Is that......
Sun: Could it be......
Oscar: (Eyes Widened in Fear) Not again.........
And just like that, Oscar immediately gets hugged tackled by none other than Nora Valkyrie and the entire JNPR Team.
Oscar: (Already in a Group Hug) Guys! Come on! Again?!
Nora: (In Tears While Hugging her Baby Tight) Oscar Everlynn Pines!! Where the heck have you been young man?!
Jaune: Do you have any idea how much you made us worried today, mister?!!
Ren: (Gives Oscar a Fatherly Glare) You made me cry.....
Nora: You made your dad cry today, Oscar!!
Oscar: ('Sighs in Embarrassment') Didn't any of you read the note I wrote back in the hotel room?
Pyrrha: (Blush a Little) We..... Didn't had the time to go back to the hotel and look. (Frowns Worryingly) Still, you should've told us you were going to do something today before we left this morning. (Gives Oscar a Kiss on the Forehead Before Hugging him Again) You had us all so worried.
Oscar: I know. I'm sorry......
Sun/Neptune: PYRRHA?!
Pyrrha: (Turns to see Sun and Neptune Staring at Her with a Very Shock Expression) Oh. (Smiles Brightly) Sun and Neptune. It's so nice to see you two again. Thank you so much for watching over our baby boy for us.
Sun: P-P-Pyrrha.....Y-You're alive!
Pyrrha: (Giggles Softly) That I am.
Neptune: B-B-But you were on the news...... During the Fall of-
Nora: Nooope! Never happened!
Sun: But-
Nora: Nope! Everything is just fine! Pyrrha is fine and well again. And nothing bad will ever happen to us again. EVER AGAIN!
'Silence'
Oscar: (Facepalms In Complete Embarrassment) I'll explain everything back at the hotel........
Sun: Thanks, bro.
Bonus
Ruby: (Gives Oscar an Adorable Smile)
Oscar: (Very Confused by the Smile) ......What?
Ruby: (Gives Oscar a Loving Hug) You said you love me!~
Oscar: (Eyes Widened While Blushing Bright Red) How.......
Ruby: Blake told me that you told Sun that I'm the girl you love. Is that trueeeeee?~
Oscar: ...........(Groans in Embarrassment While in Ruby's Embrace)
Ruby: (Giggles Softly) I knew it. I'll take that as a definite yes~ I love you too, Oscar~
