Interesting debate time actually, if you're a fan of Oz how do you perceive Ozma's identity? I don't think it's cut and dry Trans Girl but everyone has their own way of reading into things~

Happy birthday, Princess Ozma! To celebrate, I drew a 100% book-accurate Princess Ozma, based on descriptions given in The Marvelous Land of Oz.

Description 1: Glinda smiled, and going to Tip she took his small brown hand within her dainty white one.

Description 2: From the couch arose the form of a young girl, fresh and beautiful as a May morning. Her eyes sparkled as two diamonds, and her lips were tinted like a tourmaline. All adown her back floated tresses of ruddy gold, with a slender jeweled circlet confining them at the brow. Her robes of silken gauze floated around her like a cloud, and dainty satin slippers shod her feet.

It kinda strikes me as a bit of a hold over from being raised by Mombi + trying to live up to the inherent right of rule she has?

Like obviously Tip was raised isolated and was hardly about to empathize with the witch who mistreated him, then his first few companions were created by him and specifically made to be subservient and listen to him. I imagine Ozma didn't have time between all the rapid fire changes to figure out empathy and simply hasn't bothered with it.

Something that fascinates me about Ozma is how she just…doesn’t really empathize with others?

She cares a lot about them but she doesn’t really understand how they feel or why and oftentimes fails to account for how her actions will impact them. Even Dorothy -whom she’s closest with- she can upset without even noticing! I think it’s an interesting trait of hers that often gets missed with so many people considering her to be a perfect little “mini-Glinda.”

Holy wow, a chapter upload!

The webtoon version of the comic goes up on Sunday, but you folks who read it as a comic get to read the chapter now. Because I absolutely do pick favorites.

Now that I have now seen Wicked Part 1 in the cinema (and now understand the musical canon beyond the songs so far), I have so, so many thoughts.

For example, knowing that Sheltergod "Shell" Thropp became a prominent character in Son of a Witch, the fact that he doesn't exist in musical canon makes that a non-starter... unless there's a way of fixing that.

(I also think it would be amazing if Kristen Chenoweth reprised her role as Glinda for Son of a Witch, being both the right age and literally the originator of the role. ).

For all the worldbuilding, there doesn't seem to be any mention of Ozma Tipperarius in the movie canon so far, when she at least had mentions in the book. So, that ought to be addressed, since Oz suffers a power vacuum after the Wizard which only occurred because in the canon of the series, he overthrew the monarchy and the Princess Ozma Tippetarius was disappeared to spare her from her throne (and violence).

I say this because the politics and propaganda is a large part of the themes of both the musical and the book - including how "wonderful" this humbug Wizard really is! ("Is one a crusader or ruthless invader" indeed!) Since Son of a Witch seems to be more about the inheritance of evil, carrying on the original theme of whether one is "born wicked", or becomes it, the question is who inherits the keys to a colonised kingdom - the once-intended monarch, the Wizard's issue, or whomsoever decides to take the throne for themselves.

Like I said. I have Thoughts.

It is the Year of Our Lord 2022 and I am STILL obsessed with the idea of a musical sequel to Wicked, based on the sequel novel Son Of A Witch.

No.

I prefer Tip/Ozma to be darker skinned because it's CANON ACCURATE.

Canonically, Tip has brown skin, and Glinda has pale/white skin.

Wicked would’ve been better if Act 1 ended with Elphaba finding baby Ozma and Act 2 was just her and Tip on the run together.

There also was Russian 90s cartoon series, that was pretty faithful adaptation of "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and "The Marvelous land of Oz"

And adaptation of "Marvelous land..." adaptation included Dorothy (Dolly in this version) as part of the cast.

And part with Tip (Top in this version) being Ozma was in it as well.

It is pretty surprising, that Russian cartoon of all things would leave such detail in :p

Dorothy and the Prince of Oz: *is intentionally an original Oz story separate from the canonical books, '39 film, et cetera, told beautifully through the art of ballet* Me: Neat! Also me, in the back of my mind: You know there's a certain Princess of Oz you could have Dorothy fall in love with... no need to create a new character... Ozma is all invented, public domain, and available for ya already...
