OFFICIAL TITLE AND PLOT REVEAL: The Legend of Zelda - Remnants of the Past

I've teased my original Zelda story for a bit and now I'm finally revealing what it is about! It'll be a mixture of writing and game-like pixel art. I wanted to reveal this right before Linktober, as I might show more concepts during the month.

"Set on a 4th timeline split from Ocarina of Time, the King and Queen of the past (who are in fact Link, the Hero of Time and Zelda, the Princess of Destiny from the events of Ocarina of Time) prophesied the return of Ganon, who had once brutally taken over Hyrule until being defeated by them. As Ganon was not to return in their lifetime, they ended up leaving several clues and remnants of their knowledge, in hope to one day guide potential successors from beyond the afterlife.

Generations passed by and since in this timeline the hero of time had not been sent back in time to relive his childhood, his spirit was eventually reborn into the body of a new young hero, also named Link. Fate brought him to be present at the birthday celebration of the young princess of Hyrule, also named Zelda. Like her ancestor, she had a bit of an idea of what was to come. Paired with strange occurrences all over Hyrule, Zelda felt that the dawn of Ganon’s return was upon them, although not everyone was willing to believe the teenage princess yet. After all Hyrule had seen a pleasant and strong era of peace that seemed almost endless.

Luckily Link was on her side and willing to help her plan out a way to convince everyone, especially the King of Hyrule. And they would not be alone. While Zelda would research the history of her ancestors, Link would gain the support of the Oracles of Courage, Wisdom and Power, but also the descendants of people who had once aided the Hero of Time in the past.

Yet once Ganon did return, something happened that no one could have expected…

In another timeline, one without a hero, Hyrule ended up being destroyed forever. Would history repeat itself, or could the fate of Hyrule be changed? It was in the hands of the hero of hope, the princess of the present and their allies."

The One Fact Pact

I want to see a fic where the chain is rigorously keeping their secrets and stories hidden, but they've all learned to trust one another. Like, it's past time they should probably be sharing things because it's beginning to get annoying, they all agree, but it's sorta become a habit by now? They kept those secrets and now no one really wants to share first?

So, to keep things interesting and get some momentum going, they make a deal.

Whenever they come across something that reminds them of their travels, their quest - be it an item, a familiar name, a location - they've got to share ONE fact or story about it.

But only! When they're in other people's time, because otherwise it'll just be a staged tour and one person infodumping and that's exactly what they're trying to avoid (and it won't be a fun competition they can make bets about).

And then either they go through worlds slowly building trust and understanding of each other through a long drawn out and incidental series of tidbits....

Or they immediately get stuck in wild's hyrule for ages.

Everyone's arguing over who the latest ruin belongs to. Time and wind are getting into an argument about the kokiri. No one can agree on the zonai. Wars is taking immense pleasure in pointing out anything someone else might have missed. Legend is resolutely ignoring eventide. Twilight claims the entire faron woods until they step into the hot and humid jungle for the first time.

Wild thinks he's immune because it's his world so he legally can't answer questions, but everywhere they visit there's a piece of his own story in the rubble or on the wind.

Wild: *happily making tea and checking his slate with the other hand* okay, looks like tomorrow we can reach the breach of demise and to new serenne stable. Just past that- Sky: *choking on his drink* the what?? Wild: the breach? Sky, weakly: Why's it uh, called that? Wild: oh, it's an old story. Apparently eons ago it's where a demon godking came up from underground to the surface world... *suspiciously* Why? Sky: gimme the slate. *squinting at the shape on the map*... I can neither confirm nor deny. Wild:... What do you mean? Sky, remembering the One Fact Pact: I can neither confirm nor deny. What's important is that I killed him. The entire chain, variously: YOU KILLED A DEMON GOD?!!? Sky *recalling the hardest fight of his life*: what, like it's hard?

And then he just refuses to elaborate.

Here's Sky with Snow White and Aurora! I just think that they would love how sweet Sky is, and, yes, they would all relate about being put into a long slumber (or for Sky, his Zelda being put into a long slumber). Also, they are all dreamers, and I could totally see Sky listening to their stories about romance and telling his own.

My Lies of P experience, part A

I think what chronically upsets me about TotK is that. So much of it could have been so good with so little change.

I am into Zelda as a sacrificial, wondrous and silenced creature who must literally carry the blade of the hero as a wound inside her forehead and silently wait to be humanized again --and the injustice of a kingdom built on such a premice doomed to repeat itself, especially if the kingdom was founded on such dubious grounds to begin with. I am into Ganondorf forcing the present to reckon with the past through the most violent clash, forsaking everything that made him a person while sinking down into petty vindictiveness until no connection and no humanity remains, even though independance was what he was trying to protect in the first place. I am into Link as somebody trying to hold onto his most important connection to the world he once knew being used to force him into a conflict that has ultimately nothing to do with him (sure that's SS again but, it could have been explored even further). I am into Rauru as this self-important, self-made king who used his own association to godhood to live out a power fantasy that refuses to ever be acknowledge as such, maybe compounded by the fact he is one of the last of his species and feel, himself, the crushing weight of their fading heritage?

I don't know, the Tears of the Kingdom or something????

But, it all tragically depends on one crucial thing, which is to allow hylians to be wrong sometimes.

And it's wild to me how all of this incredible potential to comment on the series' history and the characters' role in it is just. Flattened into nothing, because Good must be Good and Evil must be Evil, and Hyrule must be righteous at literally every cost --even if it means nervously rewriting their own history through convoluted logic that rejects conflict and depth and vulnerability at every turn.

Linktober Day 8. Tunic

Whenever I feel sad about Oot Zelink or Oot Link in general, I remind myself...

... that Oot Zelink is canon and happy in my own Zelda story universe, which is based off of my 4th timeline Theory (you can watch it on youtube - story and theory are separate entities, but the theory is used as a base)

The story is far from coming out yet, but it's set in a 4th timeline split where Link was not sent back to his childhood. He and Zelda think Ganon might come back anytime and prepare for it, but he doesn't return in their lifetime. Instead when Ganon does eventually return, the reincarnation of the Hero of Time (my original Link design) and a new Princess Zelda are there to face him. Thanks to the preparations of King Link and Queen Zelda of old times (oot Zelink), the new Link and Zelda avoid the events that would have led to Hyrule's flood in the adult timeline.

Is this an AU? I wouldn't really call it that, because I'm just making my own timeline that can coexist with the others, but it doesn't disturb any developments that happen in the canon timelines. That being said, it's still fanfiction. But a very intricate one! And knowing I created this whole elaborate set up gives me some relief, because even if it is not part of the Nintendo canon, I know they'll always be happy in the canon of my own timeline. That being said their story still has some drama, but that makes their happy end even more well deserved.

Okay, I am genuinely curious: what was your first Zelda game, and were you like me in thinking that it was the only actual game and all the rest were just knockoffs?

No joke, my first game and the one I grew up with was A Link to the Past, and I remember being like seven and reading the guide booklet for Ocarina of Time and thinking to myself, "Raised by a tree? What idiot wrote this; every sensible Zelda fan knows he was orphaned and lived with his Uncle!"

Seeing/ the storys of the chain accidentally (or on purpose) touching twilight's necklace/charm (i forgot what it's called my bad)

The chain attending someone's wedding (e.g. Sun x Sky, Flora x Wild)
