*some emerald grove devil au to smack you over the head with a hammer*
———
Falûne: *walking to the gate of the grove with the group, stopping in place as he sees Dammon still there. All the other refugees gone on their way leaving the blacksmith behind* D-Dammon?! What are you still doing here??
Dammon: After, last night… the idea of leaving without you by my side held my feet firmly in place as all the others left… I’d like to travel with you lot if that’s alright. I can repair your weapons and armour if needed and… I am fairly decent in battle if need be.
Astarion: ugh! Great another stray to join our-
Karlach: *covers his mouth* we’d love to have you gears! I’m sure between you and I we can tell our bluebell all about the hells and his homeplane!
Lae’zel: a master blacksmith is a useful ally, and one enthralled with our leader is all the better in my mind.
Shadowheart: Well, his work did save us from getting our teeth kicked in these last few days. Why not.
Gale: I’m all for it, the more the merrier I say!
Wyll: as am I. But, I believe it’s Halsins call, he’s potentially courting his son after all.
Halsin: hm, my boys old enough to make his decisions himself. *smiles warmly and looks at lûne* go on son.
Falûne: *heart a little torn having shared a dance and a kiss between him and Rolan the night before, but unable to say no to those beautiful eyes* so long as- you don’t mind sharing my tent~?
Dammon: *tail swishing giddily* A-Ahhha, I’d be a fool to say no~
Halsin: slow down you pair.
Falûne: Ugghhhhhhh daaaad I’m 21!!! *stomps off ahead dramatically*
Halsin: exactly and you’ve your whole life ahead to get to know who you’ll be taking by the horns!!

There seemingly won't be a Planeswalker's Guide to Thunder Junction, sad to say, so it's time to stop delaying this.
Outlaws of Thunder Junction is the most recent Magic the Gathering set to release, taking place on a "fresh" plane- a place that has no sentient, sapient life. Initially populated by the Atiin people, nomads from another plane that moved here when the Omenpaths opened up the multiverse, everyone who decided to come on down to the Junction and make a new life for themselves has given themselves a bit of that old west flare.
But the question is; where are all our new friends from? In a burst of intellectual curiosity and bad decision making, lets actually do our best to figure that out, starting with... (some ground rules: only the subject matter of the card art matters. Instants and Sorceries will try to divine where the spell and cast are from to the best of my abilities. Please note this is mostly arbitrary.)
WHITE
... cool way to start. Based on the artistry of the Eversaloon's entryway I'm calling Kaladesh, it has the appropriate spirals.
The original printing of this card is Innistrad so you might be tempted to say this lovely lady is from there, but the style of wings, the way she is channeling Thunder through her gun, and the general vibe of the art tells me this is Dominaria.
This delightful feller is endemic to Thunder Junction! The armor has an Esperite flare but I'm counting this as not from another plane.
Aven Interrupter is our first one that's like, actually obvious. Owl aven have only been seen on Arcavios so until told otherwise, this friend is from there!
While we're seemingly not getting a Planeswalker's Guide for Thunder Junction, it was mentioned on twitter that Felidar are native to the plane. The particular design of the cat and horns suggest creatures native to the American West as well.
This abomination (Affectionate) of a pun features a local oxen and a Thunderous wind whipper. As much as a magical spell can be, this is from Thunder Junction proper.
Another native creature to the plane. I love the fluffy beards on these critters.
Now look at this bad boy! There's absolutely no known place in Magic the Gathering that a rabbit person like this could exist... yet anyway! I'm thinking this guy is from Bloomburrow (as is the Mole person from Murders at Karlov Manor, incidentally).
While this is noted as a spirit, the fact that it's an animus suggests to me this is more of a living mirage than an actual person. Native to Thunder Junction.
Eriette is the weirdly sympathetic wicked witch of the Wilds of Eldraine storyline, so this stunningly beautiful piece of artwork is from that storybook plane.
There's no real defining characteristics on this card to really peg where it's from... except! IT was mentioned on Twitter that Spree cards were meant to evoke big Western films, and this one is The Magnificent Seven... which means this lone survivor's from Kamigawa, because it'd be funny (and the spooky aura radiating out of these guys feels like a Reckoner thing). Hey, I did say these would be arbitrary sometimes.
The incredibly cool horse(?) of Annie "Haseya" Flash, one of the main stars of the story. Fortune comes and goes as she pleases, but Annie always finds her when the chips are down. I love this creature, and love Annie. I choose to believe Fortune's from the Atiin homeplane and came with her.
There are not a lot of places Dwarves can be from in Magic the Gathering... this doesn't have the exact sort of filigree you'd expect from Kaladesh, but consider the fine work and the tools being employed, this lovely fellow is likely from there.
The Sterling Company, our villainous lawmen for the plane! I'll talk about their leader later, but based on him, his style, and the impeccable fashion of his men, I'm saying they're from New Capenna.
Goddest boy in the multiverse Kellan Okoson is here to lasso an entire train to safety with his fey-natured vines. While I'd love to say this is from Eldraine because Kellan is from there, this is the natural fey-gifts he inherited from his shitty father, so they're from Oko's Plane.
This polite kidnapper is pretty clearly from Eldraine. I wonder what she left in the cacti's place though...
This is a tricky one. The way Thunder works on the ol' Junction is that it needs a loop to radiate through- thus the horsehoe on the blade. But that, plus the inner tang also being a loop, suggests this is a former Zendikari sword, modified from climbing equipment to chaos-channeling shock-sword.
Annie Flash digs up her past for one final job, and looks sweet as hell doing it. This is from the Atiin's plane, I'd reckon.
This guy could really be from anywhere, which is kind of the point of Thunder Junction- to give up your old life for a spell and see if a new you will work out. But the fact that his potions are so classical Fantasy Potions I'm saying he's from Dominaria.
This delightful little critter is native to Thunder Junction, and what a cutie he is. Did you know Prairie Dogs were a type of squirrel before seeing this card, because I didn't!
Fundamentally I have no real indication of where this guy could be from... but he's from Prosperity, the Sterling Company's roost, and his suit's got a bit of an armoured look to it... so I'm gonna say Kamigawa.
Look some of these just flatly aren't actually doable. The drones bouncing around suggests it could be from one of the planes that got those, but ultimately I think I'm going to have to put this as "yeah I got nothing".
I could have swore there was somewhere in the Wilds of Eldraine story that said these particular blue and white bovines belonged to the giants of the sky... and while I can't find it, I wanna say they're from Eldraine anyway. So I will, it just fits dangit!
This is definitely native to Thunder Junction. It's just got the vibe, you know?
Choke this one up to New Capenna- and if you think that's wrong, blame the Sterlings for having such fine coats.
Ditto for this one- though I'll note that the carriage and the train from the above card absolutely have that Kaladeshi vibe.
It' always fun to see what exactly gets turned into an instant or sorcery spell in flavor-first sets like this. This friend is from Thunder Junction, positive.
Another Sterling, another New Capenna ex-pat looking to make a name for herself. If it helps one of the city's of the plane, Omenport, leads directly to New Capenna, making it one of the most likely planes for people to naturally come from.
I will stop calling Sterling Company mooks New Capennan's when they stop looking like people from New Capenna. This is a sort of Aven you'd find there design wise.
Cute, designing a shield like a deputy star. This has no real markers signifying the people using it, but the subject of the art is clearly the shield itself, and this bad boy was made on Thunder Junction baby.
Only 30 images are allowed per port so check in soon for PART 2.

Any thoughts on Elspeth’s character in the new stories so far?
It's a shame we still don't have a proper Beyond Death story, but I'm interested to see what paths she's willing to tread in order to get answers about her homeplane.
It's asking a lot, but I honestly hope this set gives our girl just a little bit of closure. Every set she has been in has left her in unfortunate straits, would it be too much to ask for her to get uplifted?
(Inb4 downer comments about WotC not uplifting their white-aligned characters ever, cos I'm not making this post for vibes like that, sorry).

[Image description: A character overview picture. The character is a white woman with long brown hair in a braid, a cream-colored shirt with a golden stylized tree symbol on it, a forest green skirt, and brown boots with yellow laces. Her legs are made of metal wrought in a spirally, filigree pattern. One leg is crossed behind the other, her right hand is on her hip, and her left hand is holding a cane. She has square glasses and is grinning, her head turned to our right and her eyes looking left. Hanging off her waist are a leather journal and a french horn with the bell detached and covering the tubing. On the right side of the image in large letters reads:
Lidija Joska
24, she/her (a small trans pride flag then lesbian pride flag follow)
RGU, in that order
Homeplane: Ravnica
Grew up Selesnya
Misses her centaur GF
Currently living on Kamigawa
Around the woman are arrows pointing to parts of her as follows:
Her neck, accompanied by the text “Simic-provided gender affirming surgery”.
Her shoulder, with the text “Repurposed Conclave robes”.
Her french horn, with the text “Magic horn from Kaladesh (records and plays back melodies)”.
Her journal, with the text “Magic notebook from the Jeskai (same magic as horn)“.
Her legs, with the text “Etherium legs (no longer paraplegic)”.
Her cane, with the text “Cane; walking is hard (still disabled!!)”. End image description.]
HERE SHE IS i decided I wanted to rework my planeswalker-sona so now here she is!! lidija joska wanders around planes collecting songs and noting them down, and likes to hang out with tamiyo’s story circle and share them! she’s doing a great job and i love her. soon i will write down some lore but for now you get The Overview

So I’m just gonna infodump about my D&D character I’m mtg-ifying. I’m still thinking Dominaria for her homeplane but I could also see an argument for Fiora but I 1: already have a fanwalker from there, and 2: it might be TOO politics-y?
Ok so Penny is from a home brew world. The campaign we were playing in was totally homebrewed and was sci-fi/fantasy and multiple planets etc (our DM really went above and beyond and did a great job!) She was the youngest of four kids (though she is technically a twin so her brother is only like a little older than her) in very rich noble family. Her parents are well-meaning but very detached and she definitely sees her nanny as more of a parent figure than either of her parents (all the kids do really). They care mostly about position and reputation etc. This world places a lot of stake on declaring an heir and passing on their reputation (it’s a merit thing over a eldest thing in this world) Penny never really buys into it but she’s also raised very sheltered/naive so she doesn’t really understand people can be bad off or anything. Her oldest sibling grows tired of the games and straight up just leaves one day so she can become a wandering knight to protect the less fortunate. This has a devastating effect on everyone else. Her next oldest sister works on becoming the Perfect Heir and constantly stresses herself out trying to please everyone. Even her twin brother buys into eventually which really throws her off because before he was happy to goof off with her. Eventually the family has to travel through a regular area and Penny sees non-nobility for the first time and it shakes her to her core. She becomes sullen and rebellious after this. She doesn’t like any of her parents’ answers on why they have so much and others have so little. They want her to act like the promising young music prodigy she is and she wants to learn about and spread information on this inequality. Eventually her parents try to arrange a marriage for her (and they do attempt to pick someone they think she’d like, a nice young man to help her out of this “phase”). That is the last straw and she too decides to run away. She ultimately becomes a wandering bard.
I think most of this could stay perfectly fine in a magic setting. Even in Dominaria but I’ll have to learn more about those noble houses before I choose the details. I could see her trying to play at a Robin Hood trope for a little while before she runs away. I’m not sure yet what will cause her spark and where she will spark too. I want it to be post run-away I think, but I’ll have to really think about what makes most sense. Running away really would be the biggest shock so I’ll have to really think about something that would make more sense than that.
Anyway generally speaking. Penny is around 19. She’s part oblivious rich kid, part pure-hearted idealist, part music prodigy. When she was playing Robin Hood she would give a crazy amount of money to someone and then be like, Sorry it’s not enough, I hope you can get a decent dinner and the person would like be like…. This is 3 weeks of pay??? (Embodiment of that, It’s a banana how much could it cost, 10$? Meme at least when she first runs away). She has long, coppery-red hair and in the D&D setting she had silver eyes which was normal on her planet. Idk if I will change it to a more regular color although it’s magic that’s probably fine. She is about 5’4”. A great singer and had proficiency in lute, ocarina, and piano, which I think still tracks for mtg.
I think as an mtg character she would be blue/red. Maaaaybe blue/red/white? I’ll definitely have to think on it for sure.
Anyway so that’s Penny!

It’s been a while but here’s another lore post, that’s I think gonna be spoiler free for any of my players reading. This one is gonna be more of ramble than usual as I’ve been thinking about some lore for the shadowfell in my setting. I really wanted to use the shadowfell but wanted to also give it my own touch as to make it more interesting, I however had no clue what to exactly do with it but now I have a pretty clear idea.
First, the creation of the shadowfell, unlike most planes the shadwofell in my setting is actually an artificial plane created by a powerful mortal and not a god. The creation of the shadowfel happened in ancient times before the Ouron empire ever existed. The sources on who actually created it vary very much but they all agree it was someone who had travelled to many planes and was dissatisfied with all of them, thus longing to make their own plane. To do this they knew they could never create something that was fully their own for only the gods could do something like that. To jump over this first hurdle they made their plane a reflection of another plane but tried shaping it to their own will. The plane they chose to duplicate and corrupt was the material plane, their homeplane. They sought wisdom from Luther, god of chaos and the creator of the feywild, for they had done similair things when they created the feywild. With this information our sour protagonist went and created the plane, but due to a combination of multiple issues the plane became cursed. This was either due to our protagonist failing in creating the plane due to not having the power to do so, because the gods saw the plane as a mockery of theirs and cursed it, or a combination of the two. So when the plane was created it became all the material plane was but less, lacking any form of life to be possible to be created there or for emotions to flourish in the plane.
Now that the plane was their it was dubbed the shadowfell by many for its eternal darkness and how it was a creation that fell from the grace it was meant to achieve. Our protagonist was not yet satisfied however and wanted the plane to still become relevant, the plane however had already corrupted their thinking making them more apathetic and somber. To get people into their plane they cursed the material plane transforming all feywild portals into shadowfell portals for a short time. This caused the more common feywild inhabitants to get stuck in the shadowfell an be corrupted by its draining nature. The most common new prisoners of the plane were the eladrin and elves, and the gnomes. Their corruption transformed them into dark reflections of themselves, the umber elves (known as shadar-kai in other source books) were what the elves of the shadowfell became known as, and deep gnomes were the results of what happened to the gnomes of the shadowfell. Other humanoids also entered the shadowfell but they were not as resilient to its effects as the gnomes and elves and transformed into far more monsterous creatures over the years.
Nowadays the plane is only visited rarely and is mostly used to banish others into or to get rare materials from. Some say the creator of the shadowfell still roams within the plane, bitter that his creation was a failure.
Extraplanar travel has been banned in Ouron yet the feywild and shadowfell still remain accesible due to their closeness to the material plane and the little harm they could do, for no creature in the shadowfell can truly leave its grasp, cursed to return to the plane if they ever choose to leave, for they will be born and they will die there.

Do you have any fan-planes?
A few! I also helped built a few others with other people that technically aren’t fully mine. I think the only fan-plane that’s entirely out of my imagination is Moloni (oh, and also the underdevelopped Geonne), but the Haven is mostly a fan-plane itself, and I’m ready to defend my claim on Winrovah even if it was a commune effort, since I did most of the work on it. I helped @rhystique build some elements of his fan-plane of Deka, and we built and co-own the fan-plane of Ferely. I don’t remember exactly who owns what, but I remember building Ocaelum with @land-ofthebooty, and I’m pretty sure she expanded it beyond that to make it a RPG setting so our versions might have diverged a bit.
Beyond that, I have a few fan-settings on canonical planes that developed naturally or not over the years. Talejiah, the Ketrian Sanctuary being the most recent, but not the only one.
Short breakdown of every plane mentioned:
Moloni: A plane where magic is only possible in certain areas, by connecting to Mana Sources. Most Sources have a guardian who can regulate its magic and are iconics of their respective colors. Due to defensive options vastly outweighing offensive ones, most of the plane is ruled via independant or allied city-states built around a Source. Cyr’s homeplane.
Geonne: An underdevelopped fan-plane with few things to call its own anymore. The main way the local people channel magic is through fusing with another being, almost always an animal. Some types of magics are associated with some animals, and fusing with one also allows one to shift between forms of the animal or of the person. The resulting being is an amalgamation of both, but sapient people generally have more influence on the resulting personality than the animal part. Rizana’s home plane.
The Haven: A piece of Rath separated from the rest of the plane during the Planeshift. Claimed and rebuilt with the help of Icalia, who installed there (not over the entire plane) a resort to serve as a multiversal neutral ground. As a general rule, magic is banned and impossible while within the resort. Nksdv’s home plane.
Winrovah: A plane that is slowly being eaten away all over by something that’s probably magical in nature. Has been for forty-ish years. Nobody seems to have a solution. The plane is doomed to end in a matter of decades, and everyone gets to watch it happen, slowly but surely.
Ferely: What we’ve seen of the plane so far is mostly the result of the rites of the Church of Infinite Reflections, which is dominant in the country that’s mostly been visited. Through those are created powerful sentient Cursed and Blessed magicals items both, and some of them have spread to other planes by way of planeswalkers and holes to the Blind Eternities. The Cursetamer’s home plane.
Deka: The desertic remains of a once great technological world, long destroyed. Machine-gods still roam the desert, and people struggle to survive all over. Gevon’s home plane.
Ocaelum (Sometimes it’s spelt Ocealum, words are hard): A plane with the majority of it underwater. On the ocean floor, humans and elves are installed withing giant bubbles created by sentient magical trees that provide light and oxygen. Under the ocean floor, within a network of tunnels, live Great Dragons and their dwarven children. In the cold, dark depths that span a mind-boggingly dominant (and mostly unexplored) part of the plane, live the Vigg’ithu, a predatory species of merfolk who’s relationship with other factions tend to be as cold as their waters. Nomadic caravans of a Family of various amphibious species travel and trade with most other factions. Arnoss’s home plane.

Legend of the Week: Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient
Race: Ogre Spirit
Homeplane: Shandalar
The Onakke are a mysterious ancient race of ogres from the plane of Shandalar. After years of them being mentioned in Magic Story, typically related to the Chain Veil arc, we finally got our first glimpse at what they actually looked like before their entire civilization was wiped out in a cataclysm as Core 2019 gave us Onakke Ogre. But who is Kurkesh? Well, like I mentioned, all the Onakke are well, dead. All we know is that some ancient Wrath of God-like spell destroyed their entire civilization. And now their spirits reside within the Chain Veil, continuing to whisper to Liliana about her being a vessel, possibly to bring about the return of this race of ogres. Very little is known about Kurkesh himself, other than the fact that he haunts the Onakke ruins on Shandalar. It is believed that he may have once been a powerful artificer who poured dark arcane magic into his creations. And it is possible that he is also waiting and preparing for the return of his race.
