I'd like to point out that Mori did this shit (pretending that he's caught to gather information, and then "Oh, no, my hot, badass situationship should come and rescue me now, I guess. Even though I can do it myself in 0.01 seconds.") once and now Dazai refuses to let it go and implement any other tactic.

should I start posting actual videos instead of just frame dumps? because Tumblr doesn't really like vids but the frames are usually pretty out of context unless I post the full vids ^-^;

I know we all like to joke about Fukuzawa’s spectacularly bad taste in men, but I think we should consider the possibility that it might be the other way around. Maybe Fukuzawa just inspires insane, manic levels of devotion and obsession in the men who fall for him, did you ever think of that

The silence in the room was breathtaking more likely suffocating.
None spoke up as they took the information the boss of the port Mafia just spoke.
As you stay silently on your seat as Koyou seems to be shock about the information and worried of your condition.
You seem paler in her eyes... Despite you both having some age gap she truly considers you as someone close to her.
"Boss... You're getting married?" Asked One of them as Mori nod while smiling.
"Oh please don't tell me he lost his mind and going to marry a young child by bribing the parents" Kouyou mutters as you sigh out.
Her hand was on top of yours as she gave a gentle squeeze to yours.
"Are you alright, Y/n-san?"
"Yes, I'm... We should concentrate on what the boss is... Saying"
Kouyou hesitantly nod as her eyes flicker back to Mori who seems to be slight irritated by the questions.
"Rest assured you know the woman well instead she is a part of the Mafia itself," said Mori as the other glanced at each other confused on whom he meant.
"Isn't that right... Y/n-chan" said Mori his hands outstretched as the other's eyes slowly reverted to your head nod while not looking at any of them.
"W-wait... What?" Mutter Hirotsu is taken aback by the information so are the others.
"Wait... L/n-san..." Mutter Chuuya as he seems shocked as Kouyou's hand seems to fail as it goes limp to her side.
Her lips seemed to dry as her words came to a halt on what to say.
"Precisely it isn't a big wedding as I do not want other organization getting a whiff of it... But except her son"
"..." Your eyes widen slightly as you flinch.
"Son?" Mutter Chuuya who seems to be the last executive to know about it and was confused.
"Pretty sure he will come with open arms to accept me don't you think so, Y/n-chan?"
"..." You hesitantly nod as you prefer to be silent as Kouyou stood up from her chair.
"B-but Ougai-dono! You don't need to get married at all!"
"Well why not?"
"..."
"Perhaps... you took a liking to her?"
"...!?"
Mori chuckled as he shook his head slightly and smiled his eyes held something sinister as his gaze fixed on your form.
"If I don't do that... Y/n-chan would have run away... I can't lose her can I?"
'After all... You know me too well... And perhaps it is the fact we have been knowing well make it... All pleasant for the marriage' thought Mori as if replying to your questions.
"B-boss... May I know who... L/n-san son is?" Muttered Chuuya confused as Mori thought for a moment with a thinking pose.
His smile widened and spoke cheerily, "of course your best friend and partner... Osamu Dazai"
Chuuuta eyes widens in shock as his gaze fall on you in alarmed.
'L/n-san is that mackarel mother?!' Thought Chuuya to himself which you can clearly hear instead a headache seems to formed on your head as their thoughts screamed inside your head.
So you switch off your ability to quiet it down.
But when you does arms wrapped around your formed alarming you as you flinch by the side who is hugging you from behind.
"Unless she promised to stay in Port Mafia forever stay by my side I won't marry her instead there would not be a reason for it..."
"..."
"But why are you persistent on it ougai-dono?" Ask Kouyou who is slight confused as she knows you are loyal to Port Mafia... Right?
"Hmm... Well she did try to leave the Port Mafia just recently... Perhaps a week or two..."
"...You did what?"
"...I..."
"But the fact she try to run away from our deal was no of use if she breaks it..."
"..."
"..."
His face snuggle close to yours as you dare not to move away despite your mind tells you to get away.
"But that's in the past now, won't you guys congratulate us together? After all she is someone we all know too well... And have stayed with me for years"
"...congratulation boss..." Some whispered as Kouyou frown a bit yet quickly smiled.
"You... Both will look good together."
"..."
"Y/n-chan she is saying something..."
"T-thank you... Kouyou... Chan" you mutter out as Kouyou nod as she quickly dismissed herself as Chuuya quickly followed her as he have a lot in mind too.
He should be happy but the fact that you eventually... Seems sadder make him felt he should do something but at the same time you did try to leave the mafia... Were they so unvalued for you?
Do you only care about your son whom you haven't met for age and try to leave the people you know in past?
"Seems... like they are taking a lot of information of thinking" mutter Mori as he side glance at you.
"But that's better... After all... You did try to leave me... Don't you value me at all y/n-chan?" Said Mori as his face leaned into your neck as he snuggle closer while his arms around your waist.
"..."
"I don't like you leaving me alright...? Even if we both don't share romantic feeling for each other... I do not like someone who have known me so well all this years of our friendship perhaps... I can't lose you..." Mutter Mori as he glance up at you as you were quiet.
"Do you understand y/n-chan?"
"Y-yes... I won't... Try to leave you"
"Good... that's what I want to hear from you" said Mori as he gave a quick peck on your right cheek and left.
You let your tears fall as you clench the hems of your dress while feeling a dread bottle up in your heart.
You just want to end this suffering instead... You wish you could leave Mafia... Away from Mori... Why does he seems so persistent on your staying... To fuel his possession over you? Or perhaps to torment you because of Dazai left the mafia.
Or perhaps both.
You wish you could have gone much earlier before anything before... Even meeting your son or maybe after the death of the previous boss... You regret not taking the offer... To leave when you get the chance...
But perhaps... You didn't want to leave that time... For the sake of Kouyou... Or Hirotsu.
You can't blame her... She lost her lover and you both are closest friends... And Hirotsu and you were known from ages... So you can't blame them both.
Perhaps your fate, your life was the curse one instead of all.
"I should just die..." You mutter within your breaths while wiping away your tears.

"Why... Did you call me for?"
"...take a seat"
"...I won't have much time... To stay" you mutter within your breaths as you don't want to raise your voice anymore... Perhaps you wanted to cut your own tongue to stop yourself from saying something which is irrelevant of your freedom.
His silver eyes stare at yours a frown seems to be present on his lips.
"The card... Last week"
"...of you receive it?"
"It was named for Dazai... But he knowingly sent it to the office"
"Perhaps..."
"..."
".."
"You want to see your... Son?"
"..." Your eyes widen slightly as your breath hitch. The dullness seems to fate as you want to agree but you stop yourself from agreeing as it will only bring you more harm.
"No"
Unaware of the brunette who stayed behind the wall that separate the two tables.
"..." The certain ravenette frown as so does the other blue dark hair.
"Why not?"
"...If I do he will know... And I don't have the strength to reveal it..."
"..."
"...So it's better if I dont-"
"I... already know" said a familiar voice alarming you as you look up to see the same brunette that left 2 years ago.
The silence felt over the cafe.
The caramel eyes stare back at yours as it held so much meaning as his lips tremble to speak...
All the years he thought he was abandoned only to realize his mother was always with him... Just... Never the courage to see him.
"..."
"..."
"Did you... Reveal it?" You asked to Fukuzawa who nod making you frown.
"Why?"
"He should... know about it"
"..."
"...L/n-san... No mother or mom or mommy, Whatever you fit... Please... Tell me..." As his formed kneel next to yours as he hold your hands gently.
His eyes were hazy as if he would burst in tears yet he doesn't as he knows he can't be the one to be weak right nowm
"...Do you love me? Care for me?"
"I..."
"All this years you took me under your wings bidding the fact I'm your son... Why?"
"...I couldn't... I know you will be mad at me for... Abandoning you... For-"
"It's not your fault instead... We are together here now... And you don't have to hide it anymore... Mom..."
"..." You let out a sighed as you don't know what to say.
His hands gave a gentle squeeze to yours.
"...sorry to bother but we don't have much time as the boss of mafia will be suspicious and I don't want only him to hov over your affection" said The raventte alarming you as he slightly pushed.
"Huh?"
"Ranpo," said Fukuzawa as he urged him not to say something stupid or embarrassing as he smile brightly at you ignoring Fukuzawa and Dazai shock formed.
"Since... We are having family gathering I was wondering why don't you meet your step son, if you marry The president"
"...what?"
Fukuzawa face flushed slightly red as he dragged Ranpo up as he apologise.
You were stunned and confused as Dazai gave an unreadable expression towards them.
"About the marriage of Mori-san.. And you"
"..."
"Was it... your will? Mom?" Asked Dazai as his eyes cautiously ask you as he was saying it to be a no.
I mean who wants a pedo- the one who ruined his suicide attempts which is slightly grateful because he met his mother, you but... That doesn't give Mori a green light to be his stepfather.
"..."
"Ignore About what Ranpo said but... Tell us about it y/n... If it isn't your will... I promise you that... I will find a way to break it off"
Ranpo whistle in the background saying a declaration of love while Yosano sighed but chuckle abit while watching the scene.
Dazai hands squeeze tighter to yours as he gave an unreable stare to Fukuzawa.
"...I try to leave Port... Mafia"
"..."
"Mori-san wouldn't have purpose to marry me... If I didn't try to leave port Mafia... "
"...What's the nonesene... why can't you leave?" Asked Ranpo with a pout as Fukuzawa's eyes narrowed.
"Why can't you leave?"
"I don't know... He seems persistent... About it" you mutter as you can't hear what they were thinking as Dazai doesn't let go of your hand as if he is stopping you to know their plan.
"...Then we will have a deal with Port Mafia"
"H-huh?"
"For your freedom..."
"B-but that's..."
"And all you have to do is stay as our loving mother!" Said Ranpo raising Yosano hand who was alarmed to be dragged while Dazai frown muttering he won't give your attention to them.
"Exactly... what Ranpo said"
"..!?!" The four of you went alarmed by Fukuzawa words as he kneel down in your table his eyes held some sort of seriousness which you cannot tell as Dazai back away more likely was taken away by Kunikida to let President have his moment
....which was very kind of Kunikida.
As your eyes widen in shock what he said next.
"For your freedom we just want you to stay with us..." His words were sincere if you didn't have mind reading ability you would have agreed yet you eventually on your ability as soon as Dazai was taken to side to only hear his thought making your whole form freeze.
'Even it meant for us to force you...'

Atsushi was chosen to be transferred to the Port Mafia. He's now isolated from everyone but Akutagawa and is desperately clinging to his sense of self. Atsushi falls his knees with tears in his eyes at the end of another emotionally exhausting day. It's only been a week and he doesn't know how much longer he can keep this up. If something doesn't change Mori will break him down and remake him in the Mafia's image.
At his lowest point, he asks himself the question he always asks when he feels backed into a corner: What would Dazai do? Immediately, the simplest solution falls into his lap. He would just act like Dazai...
... specifically, the way Dazai acts in the ADA office turned up to 11.
Atsushi would be too disruptive to rely on but too effective to punish. And if he was punished, he would take the pain while the tiger undid the damage. Satisfied with his plan, Atsushi goes to bed feeling lighter than he'd felt since he'd been dragged away from his family.
And so began the most stressful three weeks of Mori's Port Mafia career.
---
Atsushi: "Hey, Mori, I accidentally dropped three days' worth of reports in the paper shredder. Oh, and I'm taking lunch early. Just letting you know. Bye!"
---
Mori: "Atsushi-kun, where might you be right now? You know there's a meeting you're scheduled to be at."
Atsushi: "I'm so sorry, Mori, but I'm not going to make it. One of my boots is sick. I'll call you if anything changes."
---
Mori: "What happened to my office couch!?!"
Atsushi: "Oh that? I guess there was a full moon last night. I must've transformed and used it as a scratching post. Sorry, that happens sometimes now that Fukuzawa's ability isn't helping to control Beast Beneath the Moonlight.
Anyway, I'm gonna go take a nap in your car."
---
Mori: "Fukuzawa, I've made a terrible mistake. Please take the weretiger back."
---
The futon in the closet of his and Kyouka's dorm has never been more comfortable.

I kinda understand why Mori is so obsessed with Dazai being in the mafia. I mean, if we forgot abt the fact that he's called the Demon Prodigy, and is a genius, there's also something extremely interesting, and useful for Mori : His ability, No Longer Human.
You remember in Yosano's flashbacks, where Mori explained that powers were the new weapons. He said that the samurai disappeared because they did not understand that the era of the sword was over. And that the nations that won were those that managed to transform a simple cannon into a war machine. And today, superpowers lead the way. And that she had to force the hierarchy to open their eyes. Power are the new war machines. Powers are important. They're a part of our society. Yet, a random boy arrives, and erases it. This whole hierarchy. All these powers. He can delete it. He can take away your only means of defending yourself, of knowing, of fighting, he takes away a part of you. For years, people have controlled their power, and a kid not even 15 years old comes along and decides to take that away from you. As long as he's here, as long as you have any physical contact with him, your power won't work. A part of you won't work. As long as he has any contact with your ability, you won't have it. And that's scary. A man, a genius, a demon, is capable of deleting a part of you.
Like, imagine you're an adult, who managed to excel in their power. You are at the top of the hierarchy. And then, a random man erases it. You are now at your lowest. You're trapped. Especially if you based your attacks on your power, you're done.
Dazai arrives to unbalance the hierarchy. His power isn't for fighting. Your power is stronger than him. Yet, he manages to unbalance everything, what you have known, the hierarchy… It's scary af.

since i'm not sleeping
kouyou is the only high ranking mafia member with decent sleeping schedule. "oh, you need me to torture someone? wait until 8 pm, good night"
chuuya and mori so often sleep in the mafia headquarters that they keep toothbrushes in mori's cabinet and never speak about it, just wake up on chair/under the table and go to the closest bathroom to brush the teeth. apparently, mori's status as a doctor makes it less uncomfortable to have two used toothbrushes on the shelf, so that's why chuuya doesn't keep one on his table.
akutagawa just doesn't sleep until he passes out.

Gave my word to OOMF that I would get over my fear of y'all sophistiqué fellas on Tumblr and actually post an analysis here, so here goes nothing.
Tumblr media
Mori and Dazai: a noncomprehensive opinion-based analysis of the most talked about parts of their relationship by me, Lily, that has been fleshed out and crossposted from Twt.
[Feat. attached screenshots of some of the interesting contributions others made when I posted this there over the summer at the end, and the links to their Twts so you can check their accounts out if you're on the hellbird app too!]
I figure the best place to start is the place where discussion about Mori and Dazai's relationship often starts and ends: abuse.
It is an unequivocal fact that Mori was in a position of power over Dazai, as his elder, superior in rank, and the doctor who saved him. I wholly agree with this piece of the fandom collective consciousness. I do have a bit of a different interpretation, however, regarding how he used this power.
I do not think Mori lorded it over Dazai to take advantage of him sexually or hurt him physically, and from my reading of it, canon seems to support that. In fact, it was in Mori’s best interest in his relationship with Dazai to do what all the best manipulative abusers do: pretend that this power does not exist at all.
He presented himself to Dazai as Dazai’s equal, a partner in a dastardly scheme to take down the Port Mafia boss. He knew Dazai would say yes—as a disillusioned boy who seemed to have no attachment to his old life, what other answer would he give?—but took deep care to give him the illusion of choice.
Maintaining the illusion that they were equals was very important, as Dazai was older and of an entirely different breed than Yosano. His old strategy wouldn’t fly here. I think this actually displays the versatility of Mori’s manipulative skills, how he was so easily able to adjust between them. Even the narrative of Fifteen, whether this was deliberate or accidental, seems to intimate to the reader that there was not the power imbalance between them that you would expect. It specifically corrects you from seeing Dazai as Mori’s son or charge, seeming to want you—or want you to see Dazai—come to the conclusion that they are, though I use this word very differently than we do when it comes to SKK, partners in crime. But that is absolutely not true. He was a fourteen-year-old playing adult games.
Mori probably figured out pretty fast that Dazai was used to being the best manipulator in the room, and that he was usually incredibly adept at hiding this from the adults around him. It was to his advantage to utilize this fact and let Dazai think that he was the one in control between them, ergo the easy agreement to giving him a painless death later on when he had absolutely no intention of ever granting him that.
That's not to entirely de-dimensionalize their relationship. I do think in some ways, a lot of ways even, Dazai had Mori wrapped around his finger. For starters, we see several examples of him being petulant or defiant to Mori that evidently amuse Mori rather than anger him. Furthermore, I think I can go so far as to say that in the early days, Mori admired Dazai, in a way. Dazai effortlessly lived an existence lacking traditionally defined humanity and empathy, something that hadn't come quite so innately to Mori. He himself hadn't had to cultivate that cold, heartless calculation until the Great War, at which point he got himself so far into this "character", for a lack of a better word, that he played to protect his country, that he'd begun to grossly overcompensate. Become the exact monster he believed he needed to be, though I don't think he'd put it in those exact terms.
But to Dazai, all of this seems to come easy as breathing in the light novels. It must have been fascinating, in a way, to meet what he spent so long striving to become in the form of a fluffy-haired, teenage attitude-filled, lower secondary schooler.
Even the fond admirenvy, however, would eventually become a tool. There's a clear logical advantage to Mori to letting himself feel regarding Dazai to the degree he did where he allowed himself be jerked around a little bit. It would make Dazai more secure in the thought that he was the one in control between them, exactly the belief paradigm Mori needed him to keep existing within to be able to maneuver him to the utmost degree of exactitude when it mattered.
Something else I do disagree with the fandom about, which you've probably been able to ascertain by now, is that Mori, so to speak, birthed the darkness in Dazai. Made him that way. Forced him to be that way. Anything like that.
This darkness, in my opinion, already existed when they met.
I think Mori sensing that, as aforementioned, is part of the reason he chose to ensnare Dazai in his web in the first place. There's a whole other discussion that could be had about the sheer coincidence of acquiring the one child in the world with an ability that could turn off the Deus ex machina we know as Corruption that existed within the second child he would acquire not a year later—and yet another about why the mafia higher ups saw Dazai as a credible witness to the old boss' death—but while no, Dazai would probably have not gone on to become a mass murderer and expert torturer were he not brought into this life by Mori, he was very likely not an angel otherwise.
To me, the adroitness with which he manipulated Chuuya into joining the mafia makes this clear. That is not something he’d picked up within the last year he’d known Mori. Seamlessly using manipulation of that caliber is a skill that usually comes from being exposed to other manipulators from a very young age and/or a natural predisposition toward it. Usually "and". It's still a skill that can be cultivated, whether on purpose or not, but it's not something that's easy to just pick up and learn intuitively unless you're pre-tuned to it for one of those reasons. I also bring up that infamous scene in Fifteen where Dazai empties a magazine of bullets into a dead body. I see many things in that instance, but primarily a hurting and psychologically disturbed child.
While watching the death of the old boss could easily have been a traumatic experience for him, I think we can extrapolate from Dazai’s other aforementioned behavior that one, he’d been exposed to the darker side of society far longer ago than when he’d met Mori, and two, he was at that point, whether by natural means or not, rather stunted in the empathy department. I’m not saying that Dazai is incapable of feeling it—simply that he does not feel it to the degree the average person does. I know a lot of Dazai fans will disagree with me on that, but I do believe this very strongly.
This all comes back to the circle of bonding him to Mori; Mori always presented himself as his equal in that way, after all. While I’m sure Dazai had met more than one unempathetic adult before him, this could easily have been the first time he'd met one who was like him in the sense that their intelligence allowed them the manipulative skills to use this "lack of compassion” to their advantage.
I think Dazai was quickly and, to steal his own word, indelibly fascinated by Mori. We can see that he’s adopted many of Mori’s mannerisms—the most obvious example being using a dramatic shtick to lower people’s guards and make himself appear more harmless. For Dazai that's his ridiculous suicide attempts that will never work and appeals to women for double suicide, and for Mori that's playing the doting, haggard father to Elise. I think they both enjoyed these roles more than they let on, especially Mori, but they do serve a purpose. Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but to this point I even believe I remember a Japanese-speaking fan saying that Dazai copied some of Mori’s speech mannerisms in the untranslated text of Fifteen that were hard to emulate in English.
I think Mori, in his own way, for the reasons I shared earlier on, is equally as fascinated by Dazai as Dazai is by him. Mori is such an enigma, however, that I’m left with a question when analyzing a certain part of canon that I think the answer to depends on how charitably you want to interpret Mori: why didn’t he just kill Dazai instead of ousting him from the mafia?
I think there are two possible answers to this. One, he knew Dazai would be useful to him in the future. After all, he wouldn't be able to use his Deus ex machina more than once without him. And of course, there's Natsume's Greater Plan, the lengths to which Natsume has gone to set dominos in place for I think we're only just starting to grasp.
But then there's also two, that he, against what anyone might expect, cared about Dazai enough that he didn’t want him dead. Perhaps it was even both. I will leave you with that to ponder. Thanks for reading! 💝
& Now... Bonus!
