Like you just get thrown there and forgotten; you're less than a prisoner, not even human anymore, they care less about you than about rats, not even a memory will be left of you, maybe your bones won't even see the light anymore before the sun blows up. Maybe there won't be any trace of your existence up there in the world anymore.

Even though you lived as well as you could, have you really lived if the world just forgets about you? If the few people who knew you will take their memory of you to the grave? Will you think of their grief while you're rotting in your hole? While you're cursing those who put you there, or the gods who allowed it? But who can you even curse when the world has already forgotten your name and face?

And "oubliette" is a diminutive (or at least it seems to be), it's almost cute, it's like calling "Flamy-chan ❤️🔥" an oven in which you have burnt people for fun lol, so the name makes it even worse I guess

(Disclaimer: I have no actual knowledge about medieval history or how "oubliettes" were used or even defined precisely; I'm basically ranting about "being forgotten" more than about "oubliettes" themselves)

“oubliette” is such a fancy word for such an unbelievably simple thing. captain of the guard says “take their ass to the oubliette” and you think oh boy they must have some really high end perhaps grotesque punishment prepared for me and then they just throw you into a hole in the ground
