my personal OUABH headcanon is that evangeline has the nastiest swears you’ve ever heard up her sleeves but they only slip out for minor inconveniences. she will not cuss you out if you absolutely destroy her mental state but that does not hold true if you’re a random rock she almost trips on.

You know, thinking about the Merrywood Three, I found a perfect song for them: All For Love by Bryan Adams, Sting, and Rod Stewart.

Additionally, as a sidenote, I bet that there was a legend in the North that told about the adventures of dashing heroes similar to that of the three musketeers. Of course, the story curse twisted many details and so each time it was told, the tale would be a different one than the one before. For the boys, this would be a favorite tale to enact with Castor taking the lead, Jacks following after him because trouble and mischievous chaos always take place while Lyric would be the one who reels in the other two. Jacks fondly remembers it as one of his favorite leftover childhood memories.

Happy Evajacks headcanons

A little something while we all suffer waiting for A curse for true love

-Lots of Forehead Kisses since Jacks is a lot taller than Eva

-Jacks learns to braid her hair after watching her do it

-After he turns human Jacks tries to avoid apples but loves Eva's various apple deserts

-He teaches her to swim in The Hollows lake of stars (Possibly leading to sexy times :)

-Princess Fluffkins (The Fox from Ouabh) likes to make random visits whenever Eva and Jacks are outside

-Eva tries and fails many times to convince Jacks to re dye his hair blue (She finds it hilarious but he most certainly is not amused)

-Jacks is a late night snacker, Eva often finds him eating some kind of apple related his in the middle of the night

-They don't fight often but when they do it lasts hours (They always make up in the end, Eva Can't stay mad at him for long and he hates upsetting her)

-Cuddle sessions all over The Hollow

-They go for a walk each morning in the woods around The Hollow and tell each other stories

-They take all their baths together (Wink Wink), the only problem is they can never decide on the temperature of the water (Eva likes warm while Jacks like water "The heat of the sun" in Eva's words)

-Washing each others hair in the bath (Eva has a very specific routine while Jacks just loves having his hair touched for as long as possible)

-Jacks brushes out her hair every night before they go to bed

-Eva sleeps in nightgowns (Except for Jacks shirts when she wants to rile him up) Jacks sleeps in just his underwear (He's been trying to convince Eva to let him sleep naked but she refuses)

-Eva sleeps on the left side of the bed and Jacks on the right but he hogs the middle

-Neither of them snore but Eva's a blanket hog and Jacks steals half the bed in his sleep

-Jacks always wakes first, he stays in bed and simply watches his beautiful wife rest (Hoping she's dreaming of him)

-When Eva wakes up the first thing she does is tell Jacks he looks handsome smiling (She knows he's only smiling because of her)

-They Kiss and lie in bed together before having breakfast

-It takes many years of being married to convince Jacks they should have children (His argument being he could lose her in childbirth and him not wanting their children to turn out like him)

-Eva wins in the end

-It takes months for them to concieve (This worry Jacks as he thinks there's something wrong with him)

-He's overbearingly protective already but once they find out that they're having a baby he goes over the end (Much to Eva's frustration and slight enjoyment)

-Even though he's human he still had some of his Fate powers, he could still sense others heartbeats (He finds out Eva's pregnant before she even knew because of this, he cries quite a bit after his discovery)

-Jacks has no interest in naming the baby knowing his wife will choose the perfect name (If it was a boy she wanted to name him after Jacks, this was the only name he refused)

Hope you guys enjoy these, I'll probably make another part sometime in the future that might contain a bit more angst :)

One of my favorite moments reading acftl was finding out that Jacks' curse was that only people who would never fall in love with Jacks would stay alive, because

It holds interesting connotations in the reason why the curse was broken this time. In the book, Evangeline "wondered if some of the girls had truly loved him. If there had been ones who had believed, just like she did, that their love could be enough to save him, to break their curse. But it never was." With each person who was killed, his belief that his curse would break lessened, until he began using the kiss as a death sentence(like in Legendary) because that's what he now thought it was. So for the curse to break in acftl, we know that he believed in his love for Evangeline as much as she believed in her love for him. While I think that this is pretty interesting on its own, I also loved this piece of information because

It means that Tella was immune to the curse because she would never see Jacks in a romantic light, which is one of the headcanons I have had for the caraval series. I personally don't enjoy love triangles in general, but when I read the Caraval series I never felt like there was one between Tella, Jacks, and Legend. I never expected this theory to be confirmed, so that felt pretty satisfying to me.

I like very desperately need the time-travel theories for acftl to happen, it would be so cool. Plus we’d probably get to see The Assassin again, unless there is some other way or traveling through time. I hope we can see the Assassin again he was really funny tbh. Like the way he was terrible at jokes in Finale was great.

Anyways here’s a theory/ headcannon below the cut, main spoilers start

For a while I had a theory/headcannon that since Jacks started the chain of events that freed the Fates from the cards, he is collecting favors from them in return. This could explain why he had a favor from Poison and I believe he said something to LaLa about one too. Could be wrong. What if Jacks uses his favor the Assassin owes him to go back in time and show Evangeline everything she forgot?

But, what if the Assassin ALSO takes them to Jacks’s past? It may explain why the map for acftl seems to be in the past…

Since the Fates are known to not be very truthful in their bargains I can definitely see the Assassin taking them to Jacks’s past just for a laugh. It would also be interesting to see some of things we’ve been told about from a POV of inside the event. Or even through Jacks’s POV and he’s just reliving that moment.

Okay, I believe I am the only person who has this opinion, but when I read the caraval series, I imagined Jacks with a ponytail. In my mind, he had slightly long hair and it was up in a ponytail for some reason. I soon realized my mind had failed me.

When I then read ouabh I just imagined him with shoulder-length hair, but apparently I'm still incorrect.

LaLa seeing the kids (Jacks and Castor) be mean and evil ✨ this

LaLa seeing them grow up soft and be mean now that

LaLa saw them grow into what they are now, she lost her sense of right or wrong with them!

I wanna talk about the Valors they were probably close to. They were locked up when they still young, and noble, and stupid enough to believe if we did the right thing it would all work out.

They're gonna wake up in a new world, in a new time, and what would they want? Familiarity. A son, and brother who was the noblest of all, who was so beloved an entire nation genuinely mourned his death; a friend, a lover, who loved jewellery so much a dragon thought her treasure; a boy they all knew, who had a heart of gold and wore his emotions on his sleeve.

And what would they find? A boy who is an undead monster (and cannot look people in the eye, lest he kill them); a girl who wears threats like jewellery (and stabs people hard enough to kill at the slightest inconvenience); a boy who can kill you with just his words (and makes people think he doesn't even know what emotions are).

They saw these three grow up. They remember good children, who could be heroes, and they're all villains. They're all broken, and bleeding, and hurt and they would never, ever admit it.

I want to believe the happy, beloved rulers image of the Valors and if that were true, wouldn't seeing them all like this be absolutely heartbreaking?

(I know there were only five year's worth of measurements in the Hollow, but look at their current ages. They wouldn't have started carving on a friend's house right of the bat, so they all likely met when they were 10-11)

I found some anime photos that HEAVILY remind me and PERFECTLY represent what I imagine Jacks x Evangeline to look like. First off, I have no idea if these anime characters are preexisting characters so please let me know if they are! I just happen to hit the jackpot of how I’ve been envisioning Evajacks. Anyways, I think the anime art is so pretty and has such a soft glow and beauty to them. Although I originally picture Evangeline having short rose gold/pink curls, she looks so pretty in long hair as well! The dark blue hair guy is actually how I picture Jacks to look like. Someone who is tall, lean, and slightly muscular. I mentioned in a previous post, Once Upon A Broken Heart (my headcanon cast), about how I picture Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle as Jacks. As you can tell, there are some very similar or same physical characteristics between Howl, how I picture Jacks, and now this male anime character—who I assume also has blonde hair as well. This is quite the triple coincidence. Not sure if this anime boy is the same person with blue and blonde hair, but I’m just gonna assume it is and if it’s not, I can imagine it to be. The female anime character with pink hair seems to remain the same look with that flower headband so I’m assuming it’s the same girl in most of the photos. The blonde anime guy with the pink hair girl laying on the bed is giving me MAJOR Usagi x Mamarou vibes, and I’m totally here for it! 😭😭🥰🥰💓💞 And of course, nothing is right until I attach a wedding photo of Evajacks getting married! 😭😭😁😁🥰🥰💘💘

Been thinking about Evangeline and Jacks as parents so here are some Evajacks as parents headcanons:

If they were modern day parents in our world, Eva would totally love dressing up their baby in fox onesies.

They would have a baby girl (I don't have to explain myself on that one; they would, Stephanie Garber told me herself).

Jacks would love being a girl dad for sure; he'd be so soft for his daughter. He would sing quiet lullabies to her at night and take on as many shifts as he can so Evangeline gets enough sleep through the night. Sometimes it's the whole night.

They get their daughter a fox plushie while Aunt LaLa gets her a dragon stuffie.

The name they give her starts with E, that's really the one thing Jacks had as his own criteria.

I'am dead, literally dead...

Theory time! (feat. Jacks’ heartbeat)

Full disclosure this is a stream-of-consciousness, entirely self-serving post to work out when Jacks’ heart started beating, when exactly he met Eva, etc please bear with me thank you😅

Okay. So when Eva meets Jacks in OUABH, the Decks of Destiny have ‘recently become popular’ at the curiosity shop, presumably due to the recent end of Legendary’s caraval featuring it. Jacks is in a good mood when he makes the bargain with Eva - this is around the time he marries Tella in Finale. 

We find out about 27% the way through Finale that Eva’s turned into stone. Poison said she stayed as stone for 6 weeks, and Knightlinger said she turned stone ‘right before’ The Week of Terror (when all the Fates were running around burning things down etc in Finale). Her entire time as stone occurs after the events of Legendary, in which Tella and Jacks kissed (heart not beating) and fought (Tella notices his heart beating).

It doesn’t seem that Jacks and Eva could have met in Legendary post-tellajacks-kiss but before Tella discovers his heartbeat, at least not that we know of. It makes for a pretty strong case that Jacks’ kiss with Tella is what made his heart beat-

Except!

That we know his heart wasn’t beating after kissing Tella, that Tella’s heart was slowing down until Legend’s blood makes her feel strong again (heals her? idk) but right after this scene she realizes Jacks’ heart is beating and concludes she’s his true love.

What if Tella was really supposed to die from Jacks’ kiss but his magic kept her heart beating (so she could repay Jacks’ bargain/ get Legend’s name) and Legend’s blood healed her, and finding out about Jacks’ heart right after was just a coincidence? I feel like this logic follows, and I don’t believe she’s his true love.

Which leaves the question - if Tella’s not his true love, did Jacks have an off-book encounter with Eva during the events of Legendary without her own knowledge? It’s never stated how the whole True Love Heartbeat Thing is activated. Is it a kiss? A conversation? A glance? I mean - for all we know he could’ve side-eyed Eva in passing and soon after realized his heartbeat.. and just attributed it to his relationship with Tella. 

Maybe all my theorizing is wishful thinking, but I would absolutely LOVE to get a Jacks’ POV flashback of seeing Eva around Valenda or her shop or something.

(It’s also important to note that when writing Finale, Stephanie didn’t originally know whether Tella would end up with Legend or Jacks. Potentially tellajacks could’ve been end game instead with her as his true love. This aspect of her writing framework may contribute to the ambiguity of the first heartbeat and whether or not Tella was Jacks’ true love. I wonder how she’ll write this away - a pre-heartbeat meeting with Eva, the existence of ‘multiple true loves’ or ‘different kinds of true love,’ or something else entirely!)
