@meanderingstream thank you for the reminder: I've been meaning to say that Orthopox (the fancy name for mpox) is resurging this year. Here's an npr article that does a pretty decent breakdown of the current concerns and talks about the available vaccine.

Unfortunately not, I don't wanna complicate things TOO much :') Only canon IZ characters. But they can be canon to the show, movie, OR comics, I'll take any of em.

What's orthopox?

Orthopox is a genus of viruses that cause diseases like smallpox, monkeypox, cowpox, horsepox, and camelpox (but notably not chickenpox, which was named before we knew it wasn’t related). While there are a couple brands of vaccine, they all either cover or reduce the symptoms of all orthopoxviruses. There is no particular monkeypox or smallpox vaccine- these names are just used as clarification. When I said I gave an orthopoxvirus vaccine, I was giving it particularly for monkeypox as a post-exposure measure to prevent severe illness.

One cool thing about this vaccine is that while normal subcutaneous administration requires 0.5ml of vaccine, if you administer it between the top and middle layers of skin, you only have to give 0.1ml (essentially forcing the body to create a pock in that space) which greatly increases the number of doses that can be given out of one vial while still being effective.

The word “vaccine” actually comes from the name of the virus from which modern orthopoxvirus vaccines are made- vaccinia (a present day virus closely related to modern horsepox. *not* cowpox as commonly claimed).

But the similarities are there. The under-appreciation of their abilities by their peers, their huge aspirations (ZIM wants to be the greatest Irken Invader, POX wants to be the savior of the Furon race), having to fight to actually be taken seriously (as indicated by Orthopox practically begging the council to green light his mission), being practically stranded on Earth with nothing but a bare-bones set of equipment and an underling who would much rather do their own thing (thankfully for Orthopox, Crypto actually knows how to follow orders. Even if he does so begrudgingly at times), … the way they try to portray a sense of greatness and superiority.,,

“How can they not see how AMAZING I am, how IMPORTANT my mission is? What I’m trying to accomplish for the empire! Everyone who dares go against me are IDIOTS! MORONS who simply don’t understand my mission!”

ZIM fans would love Orthopox, I just know they would.
