Thinking so many thoughts all the time. I’ve had an idea for this animatic in my head for like four years …. Most of these frames are getting scrapped though because they don’t fit my vision

Monkeybone is truly a underrated gem!!! The set design and costuming is insane and the concept of Down Town feels so original.
It was literally one of my favorite movies as a child (even though I should not have been watching it at that age haha).

You won't understand this unless you've seen Monkeybone....

This looks so bad but I had to try and get this idea out of my head.
Roy singing some parental wisdom for Ed with some backup from the boys. (from the official character CDs).

This is genuinely the best way to do it. FMA03 does a great job getting you attached to the characters.
FMAB doesn't really spend as much time on a lot of the initial exposition and character introductions because it likely didn't want to rehash what's already been told twice before. FMAB wanted to get straight into the action. This is context that I feel like a lot of people miss.
It always felt to me that FMAB had expected the audience to either have already seen FMA03 or read the manga. Which makes sense, because the first FMA series was so popular. Basically if you watch FMA03 first, watching FMAB feels even more rewarding. You spend twice as long with these characters!!
(FMA03 Ep.7 / Ep. 9 and FMAB Ep.4 spoilers below)
don't get me started on the difference in shot composition and color design. I can make a whole tumblr post or a whole youtube video analyzing the differences between the nina story arcs from just a design standpoint.
(two different takes on the same shot </3)
FMAB is great but they do skip so much character development in the first half of the series. Most of my favorite FMA episodes are FMA03 "filler" one-shot episodes. Like, you're telling me people who have only watched FMAB don't get to see the Barry the Chopper episode??? My favorite episode?!
(which has one of my favorite monologues in the whole series!! I can't remember if FMAB also used this speech at some point...)
"To that end, whether it means being a dog of the military, or cursed as the devil, I don't care... But then, we really aren't devils, much less gods. We're only human!"
And what about the xenotime brothersss?
A lot of Ed's early days as a state alchemist are shown in FMA03. so much of what I think about when talking about Ed and Al come from a mix of the two series, and without the character exploration from the first series I would be missing out on so many juicy character details.
The people who tell you not to watch Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) just don't want you to experience Peak (this opening, specifically).
youtube
(please if you're an FMA fan give FMA03 a chance. It has so much to offer, even if you don't like the ending. Please.
#i just love FMA guys#and im always so sad to know that people don't get the full experience#fullmetal alchemist#fmab#fullmetal alchemist brotherhood#fma 2003#i've watched both series i own all the ps2 games i've read the official fanfic novels i know what im talking about guys trust me on this on#next i wanna get the manga but it's so expensive

Thought I’d lost the ability to read books; turns out I just needed to read official fanfiction.

photos!

do yourself a favor and get a cheap 2000s digital camera
#or in my case use the one you've had since 2008#photography#phones don't capture the same visual effects colors or contrast in my opinion#something about the phone camera is just too crisp#more detail doesn't always make for a more interesting photo#photography / videography is also a good way to practice animation because animation design principals are based on classic film techniques#2D animation is literally just film but you gotta imagine the camera yourself
