Planet of bacterias and mushrooms
Pixel art for today based on videogame Herzog Zwei for game console Sega MegaDrive. I was looking through different screenshots for Sega 16 bit and find this game. It is from a first years of the system. And you can fly there. And walk the planet. And that’s gives something to your imagination to make something very science fiction and interesting inside your head about this game. Explore of another planet. Fly with the space ship. And walk about the surface itself. Sounds exciting!
And this is my drawing about the same theme. Planet in a small quadrant. Dark sky. Grey stones. Grey dark blue surface of the planet. From a fly view. Somewhere there are mountains. And lots of stones. Somewhere it is snow at the heights. And lots of biological activity. Some part of the surface, that looks like stones- it is biological activity of the bacterias. Activity of bacterias are everywhere here. Bactiras makes a huge colonies here. And they form some small stones or even a mountains. And you can see them from a fly view. Planet is not so lifeless as it can seem at first time. Whole colonies of bacterias are covering surface of some stones. And they can be good to see from fly view. And they even raising to the mountains. Somewhere you can see some plants something like mushrooms. They are plants a colony type too. And they can be good to see from a fly view.
Because of so big activity of bacterias. Under such a low sunlight. It was decided to not land to the surface. And fly over the planet. And scan it with devices. You will land from a high a probes. Which they collect some things from a surface. And they will do some measure process. And take some examples. You need to fly all over the planet and take as much details as you can. You are going low about height. And move down iron cable with probe. It hit the surface. And collect data. And you pull it up again. Before to land a probe scan nearest surface. And get the result, that there is nothing dangerous here. At least, from things we know as dangerous.
At the planet it is very big activity of life of bacterias. They are covering a parts of stones. And it is unknown how much it can be dangerous. And it is possible, that something dangerous can intrude your spaceship. Take care. It is even can be a some creature. As insect. And it can make you a big harm. It is unknow everything. No certain information. You are sitting in your space ship in a biological defense suit. And it is all the time active filter of clearing is working.
Do not land the surface in any case. There are lots of bacterias. Unknown source. And it should to be a lots of insects there. And small creatures. It is detected secondary. But from a such height it is hard to get it as a stable prove.
Probe is landed by iron cable. With max length as 1000 meters. And inside of a cable there are many filters and tubes. For analyze and clear. And probe itself is always under you space ship and never touch spaceship itself. Though a cable it is going all the information into special container and all collected samples. Have a maximum care levels, take care. Watch yourself. And do not do everything fast.
Planet is covered by colonies of bacterias, as idea. And it should be even a places with slime. Of course, it is confirmed. But we need samples. And more information. Slime - it can be property of some lifeforms.
There are mushrooms at the planet too. Small sizes but in a big amount. Some mushrooms have a cap of a different forms. And also including as we get it, - slime through some gas into the air. And some mushrooms are making burst and through slime. Do not land the planet. Only collect data, though a special made by out scientists probe. Probe is made just at orbit station. And it was fast made. But what can be done. So, it is a space explore. Or in other case it will be good to follow all instructions and next time we return to this planet next year. Or even more worse - someone another will fly to this place next time. And it is so interesting, such a desire, to know what we can see here! What is as a planet, so strange, why so strange? I cannot wait! So, it is good to collect samples.
Fly with care and not with a big height and with not a big speed. I know you are engineer not a pilot. But you can fly a little, you have some skill. A main – it is do all the things slowly. And space ship has lots of automatic devices. Autopilot will help you. It is programmed to make things. Lots of things in a standalone mode, if it will require. Keep connection channel open. As you return from this planet, we will name a planet by your name. You have a risk! Everyone is waiting for samples! Part of samples will be analyzed straight into your space ship and be digital data to send into orbit station automatically. After you will return you will be a long quarantine, in any case. But you decide it for yourself to go down. Someone else are not ready for this. And to wait a whole year for new equipment – no one wants here.

Space Station Concepts: Space Operations Center
"The SOC is a self-contained orbital facility built up of several Shuttle-launched modules. With resupply, on-orbit refurbish- ment and orbit maintenance, it is capable of continuous operation for an indefinite period. In the nominal operational mode, the SOC is manned continuously, but unmanned operation is possible.
The present mission management and control process is characterized by a people-intensive ground monitoring and control operation involving large supporting ground information and control facilities and a highly- integrated ground-flight crew operation. In order to reduce dependence on Earth monitoring and control, the SOC would have to provide for increased systems monitoring; fault isolation and failure analysis, and the ability to store and call up extensive sets of data to support the onboard control of the vehicle; and the onboard capability for daily mission and other activity planning."
"Like most other space station studies from the mid/late 1970s its primary mission was the assembly and servicing of large spacecraft in Earth orbit -- not science. NASA/JSC signed a contract with Boeing in 1980 to further develop the design. Like most NASA space station plans, SOC would be assembled in orbit from modules launched on the Space Shuttle. The crew's tour of duty would have been 90 days. NASA originally estimated the total cost to be $2.7 billion, but the estimated cost had increased to $4.7 billion by 1981. SOC would have been operational by 1990.
NASA's Johnson Spaceflight Center extended the Boeing contract in February 1982 to study a cheaper, modular, evolutionary approach to assembling the Space Operations Center. An initial power module would consist of solar arrays and radiators. The next launches would have delivered a space tug 'garage', two pressurized crew modules and a logistics module. The completed Space Operations Center also would have contained a satellite servicing and assembly facility and several laboratory modules. Even with this revised approach, however, the cost of the SOC program had grown to $9 billion. Another problem was Space Operations Center's primary mission: spacecraft assembly and servicing. The likely users (commercial satellite operators and telecommunications companies) were not really interested in the kind of large geostationary space platforms proposed by NASA. By 1983, the only enthusiastic users for NASA's space station plans were scientists working in the fields of microgravity research and life sciences. Their needs would dictate future space station design although NASA's 1984 station plans did incorporate a SOC-type spacecraft servicing facility as well."

Vutepose, the vending machine and interplanetary food export billionaire, and Roman, the unfortunate xenobotanist he hired to make Novian foods palatable to Aishish consumers. biting and maiming and killing and growing horrible fruits and veggies
(Vutepose's design was an adoptable purchased from @skunkes =:-] )
#neotag#neopets#my art#neolodge#roman just moved off of the aisha homeworld to live on the NSS-L1 station in orbit around Novus#vutepose doesn't really have a single spot he sticks around. travels a lot but specifically has never been to Novus#youd think having your boss be physically thousands of thousands of miles away would mean you'd pretty much be operation on your own.#but no. vutepose hovers. via zoom call. its hell.#anyway. i have thoughts. its too late for me to articulate them but im thinking them. ouughhhh#oc:vutepose#oc:roman#setting:novus#oh i should start uploading all my backlogged art for novus and make funny little lore posts on here...... ouuhhh

Becoming deeply radicalized against the idea of crewed Mars missions, y'know how the Rovers keep sending back better and better data what if instead of that we made an even bigger one and devoted nearly 90% of its capacity to holding a guy in a bubble on top of it instead of sending back useful data, but wait! They'll eliminate like a half hour of latency and also almost certainly contaminate the landing site and possibly the entire planet, so it's not all downside.
#At least in the near term it's fucking pointless and the downsides are very large and very big#Quite frankly it is extraordinarily likely that the first people to arrive at mars will do so dead#Because they will have been sent by fucking idiots willing to take too large risks#But the good news is that the wreck will spread across and contaminate huge amounts of the martian biosphere#To the point that we will quite possibly never be able to discern the history of life on mars#But if they live at least they'll get to slightly reduce the latency on our telerobotic fleet!#And travel home with the samples I guess#Good thing Percy's tagging and bagging rocks that we just canceled the return trips for#At least once we fuck up the rest of the planet those will be sterile#Kinda still excited about Aritimis but also kinda becoming anti-human spaceflight in general#We should consider not doing that for a while and at most focus specifically on living on the moon in a controlled and limited fashion#Ground the whole fucking commercial fleet who gives a shit those capsules are both gonna get someone killed sooner rather than later#And it's not like we're learning a whole lot by having people on hand up there#They spend most of their time trying to keep the machines from falling apart#Which is the main thing people would be doing for three continuous years on the shortest possible mars mission#Like you could send a dozen rovers for the price of one crewed mission both mass and money-wise#And that's probably a lowball estimate even assuming more and more advances in rover technology#Which are happening a lot faster than the advances in life support technology#Right now we do not even have enough functioning space capsules at our low earth orbit space station#Starship HLS is a fucking joke#The whole thing reeks let's just stop sending people into space for a while what were we really getting out of it

"uhm ackshually teh moon landing was faked" wrong it was an achievement of German scientists and if the Nazis had their way we'd be honeymooning on Venus rn
#Werner von Braun was the father of the rocketry and if they didnt have to bring americans and russians up to speed#they'd have landed on the moon decades earlier#Werner was literally dreaming of space stations#in the 40's!!!#guy was dreaming up of ways to build a refueling station in low earth orbit for interplanetary travel#i built one in KSP#and it worked#you waste so much fuel just leaving the atmosphere#once you're finally in orbit the fuel requirements are miniscule compared to launch
