Started a new animal crossing island :] I got the game at launch, but as a long time ACNL fan I was disappointed in the lack of content. I've decided to give it another shot since there was a big free update, here's my pics from my first few days 🏄‍♀️ my island is called Calico and I want to decorate it with white, orange and black flowers :)

Oh, man! This particular orange sky is of a shade that can only be called “brown.” A brown sky!

For years, people told me that “brown” was the color you got if you mixed all of the colors together. It wasn’t until I became an adult and started learning digital art that I realized brown is just a dark shade of orange. So just remember that, folks.

Just finished this art of my OC, Jira! He’s my main OC and sort of serves as my persona in many cases, so I’m super excited to be able to share this drawing. Since this is my first time posting him on this blog, I’m going to talk about his history and share a *bunch* of drawings under the cut (as well as WIP images from this drawing).

Text on his shorts says เสือทอง, or “golden tiger”, and he’s carrying bagged soymilk with tapioca, which is a common way to get soymilk in thailand!

The idea for this drawing is one I’ve had in my head for a few months, but wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull off since I don’t have a lot of practice with perspective shots. I sort of wanted to give him a “casually defiant” look, as well as taking the opportunity to design a fun outfit based around colorful muay thai shorts. Unlike myself, I envision Jira as someone who primarily wears shorts (often with an incongruous top like a long coat), so I love designing his outfits because of the unique balance shorts give.

(^ I like his face in this sketch better than the final, lol…) I’m super happy with how this drawing turned out, especially the coloring and shading. I normally have the instinct to put my shading and highlights on another layer (borne from years of drawing art for petsites…), but I painted all the colors and shading on one layer and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I also added some sort of clip studio filter which gave everything a slight amount of color variance, which looks really cool!

Now, about the character himself: I made this guy back in about 2016 when I was getting back into Animal Crossing for the second time. I needed a secondary character for storage, so I invented Jira (who at the time was named 6480 since that was the username I was starting to switch over to), and gave him a connection to my then-main character (plum/Clove, who I’ll post about later) by way of a sort of flirty friendship. I thought it would be cool if they were like, friends who had houses on opposite sides of the same river and waved to each other and ate breakfast together and held hands and like….. yeah 🥺

Jira is super important to me for a ton of reasons, mostly because he developed as I grew up and the transition I made towards using him as my persona instead of Clove represented a lot of changes in my life and my personality. As he developed and I needed to name him, I decided to make him Thai (he started out inadvertently white cause there was only one skintone in ACNL… cringe), which marked a point in time where I became more invested in my cultural background. When I made him a trans man, it represented that I had become more comfortable and proud of my transness. His personality, which was more casual and open than Clove’s, marked the change in my own personality and growth in confidence. And I was able to explore my own ideals of relationships through the one he had with Clove.

Now, it’s 2020 and my new Animal Crossing game has him as my main character and Clove (as well as a couple others) as my alternate! I’m super glad to be able to look back on this and mark the ways I’ve changed over the years, and it’s really interesting that both of my personas since 2014 have been because of the AC franchise.

Aaaaand I think that’s all the good art I have of him. For her haori, a upside down scale/ scallop pattern with a gradient color, with the bottom being the most saturated, would be cool. ( I read your tags and got a Clear Image. But no specific color? Maybe yellow?)

OHH YEAH A SCALLOP PATTERN WOULD BE SO PRETTY !! i love love love how those 3-arch scallops look together, Especially if it were overlaid the gradient omg.. and if u kept the scallop the base color of the haori so it also blends in w the gradual tone shift until the top is plain too.. that would b so nice

if you were thinking of a more solid scallop w those patterning off into the gradient , that could be really nice too.. AH i love all the possibilities. i was even thinking of like. i know obanai got her those socks, but to make her design more cohesive, it would also be cool to incorporate that into a separate design too, if possible. when making characters, i love to take a certain element of their design and just. throwing it where i can. its so much fun. i made a silly edit of the one i was thinking of last night . its relatively plain compared to what it Could be but its still cute imo. i made my acnl character look like mitsuri and so thats what i made her haori look like KDJFKFDJG

but yeah !! for the lazy wave cut out (like the bottom of rengoku’s but much calmer and less dramatic) i was picturing keeping the base white (or maybe creamy) w that kinda rosy pink, assuming they’d also make her hair warmer w the current anime palette. i think its too cool for my taste and the pinks and greens dont have as much interaction/conversation as i’d like (for instance if you were to add an orange multiply on top of the pink, and a tiny bit of yellow on the green, OOH it looks so much nicer imo) but !!! yeah !! i could also probably see it with some muted (think steel) blues.. OR YELLOW YEAH like one of those fall, desaturated, orange-y yellows . gorgeous,absolutely gorgeous. i tried making the one w the scallop pattern too but id need to play around more w the individual sizes and how its arranged/interacts w the color. i love ur idea so much, i might go ahead and try to work it out later if thats ok :3c

List of ACNL Town Ideas

Will I do all of them? Probably not... $120 is a lot to be spending on an old game...

Starsong - Not so much an idea as it is what I’m actually currently working on. A wooded town where the townspeople have traditionally lived well into the night... The stars are easily seen from anywhere in town. Native fruits are peaches. Main flowers are purple and white violets. Uses the Night Owl ordinance. Permanent residents are Adam (mayor), Miyuki, and Everi.

Sundance - Starsong’s counterpart, essentially... It’s a bright open field with some fruit trees and many many flowers. Townspeople have spent their lives dancing in the sun and rising early. In fact, there’s barely any soul who doesn’t see the sunrise. Native fruits are oranges. Main flowers are orange ones. Uses the Early Bird ordinance. Permanent resident is Cassandra (mayor). May adapt this into a New Horizons island if I ever get that game.

Amberwood - A crisp autumn town known for it’s apple orchards. It’s a place full of genuinely friendly and kind people with a very helpful community. Bakery goods are also something this town does well. Native fruits are apples. Has more trees than flowers. Permanent residents are Coriander (mayor), Sleeves, and Aiden.

Snowdrop - A peaceful place often plagued with winter’s chill. Those living here are met with a lot of snow but also wonderful lights. With how far away this town is, strangers are rare and a bit isolated from townsfolk. Not to say they’re unwelcome, it’s just odd and honestly a tad suspicious... Native fruits are pears. Main flowers are white cosmos and blue violets. Permanent residents are Yui and Chloe.

Technopop - A rainy town with a focus on technology. Despite the -pop suffix, there’s nothing really bright about this place... It’s just gloomy. With such dull surroundings and mechanical way of life, it’s no wonder the townspeople seem weighed down. Native fruits are durians (shh). Has more weeds than flowers. Permanent residents are Archibald (mayor) and Ryuki.

Myosotis - A dark cedar forest where the only light is by candles. Despite the dark, heavy atmosphere the residents are quite chipper. They chat, they tease, they grin- But remember not to ask too many questions, stranger. Native fruits are cherries. Mostly black hybrid flowers and white lilies. Permanent residents are Crow (mayor), Eilana, Marie Jay, and Eva.

hi guys! i know no one will see this, but does anyone still hack on animal crossing new leaf? i want to do it but im scared of messing up my game card. i just wanted a few favors such as: white/pink azealia bushes and pink/orange/blue/purple flowers. i want to finish my acnl town so badly and it’s taking me a long time to complete. i would appreciate it if anyone could help me! thank you!!
