🌻 (sunflower) - What’s something your character has grown out of? Did it happen gradually or was it a drastic change? What caused this shift?

When Edge was little, he was actually entirely nonverbal! I always like to imagine most Papyri are quiet when very young, and took a while before their first words, but few to the same degree.

Id say it was both gradual and drastic, as he started offering a few sparse words to Red when he was around 6-9, but once they were on their own, there was more pressure to "act normal", so he wound up forcing himself to verbally communicate more frequently than he would've chosen.

Whiiich also sort of answers the next part! It was mostly pressure from "the outside world" (the rest of the underground). Pretty much anything can be perceived as a weakness, and since "quiet" reads more as "shy" for a child/teen, Red discouraged Edge from communicating predominantly in Hands.

I also want to make a post appreciating the culling in Umbar. It's an extremely big, extremely ambitious city, and although it is kinda laggy, it functions really well. While playing normally I've had moments where I would whip my camera around fast enough to just barely see something load in, so I knew they were doing a lot of culling to make it work, but it wasn't until I saw the city from above that I realized just how extensive it is and how well the illusion works. I wish I had taken some screenshots to show just how much of the city is not loaded in at any given time to demonstrate it. But it's overall really effective use of the tool to build the illusion of a really big city.

You paused, your gaze slowly peeling from the datapad’s vidscreen to Din’s visor. The implications of his words hit you all at once. “You took public transport to get here?”

Din set his hands on his belt. “That’s what I’ve been doing, and it’s what I’m gonna keep doing until my contact finds me another Razor Crest.”

You blew air sharply out of your nose. His stubbornness certainly hadn’t faded over the years. “So, let me get this straight.” You lowered the datapad and took a step closer to him. “You expect to show up here, years later, unannounced, have me hand over my most precious research, and then borrow my ship?”

Din’s helmet tilted. He was amused. “I never said anything about a ship.”

You laughed. “Well, you sure as hell aren’t getting to that Imperial base on Ptelan with public transport.” You waved the datapad in your hand. “And you don’t even know how to cross-check this with the terminal, anyway. This plan of yours is starting to look real lousy.”

“To be fair, I didn’t realize I was gonna need more than the list.”

You stared at him for a few solid seconds before you closed your eyes and lowered your head in defeat. Your grip on the datapad tightened as you came to terms with what you were about to say—and, more importantly, do. This is what you got for running as far away from your research as possible: a multi-day trip with your ex. 

Cursing under your breath, you circled your jaw and lifted your head back up to look at him. “The list is the least of our problems. I need to get the ship fueled up for us to go.”

Din’s gloved hands fell back to his sides. “Us?”

“I’ve seen your piloting.” You pulled the corners of your lips up in a smirk. “I’m not letting your recklessness destroy my ship.”

Din sounded concerned as he looked over his shoulder. “What about your bar?”

You shrugged. “I have plenty of managers who can step in while I’m gone. We shouldn’t be away for more than a few days, anyway.”

Din’s visor gave you a quick once-over before he nodded. “Okay.” He straightened his shoulders and tilted his helmet towards you in a way that, aggravatingly, made your knees weak. His voice was strained with meaning when he spoke. “Thank you.”

You avoided his visor as you returned his nod. “Let’s just make it quick.” You turned to your desk and picked up a datarod. “Take this and head to the hangar. My ship’s in bay three.”

You extended the datarod to him, and Din was gentle in reaching for it. His gloved fingers brushed yours as you made the exchange. You silently cursed yourself when the sensation sent a pleasant chill down your spine. Remember what he did to you, and don’t forget it.

work thoughts today are all about cowboy aki.... specifically cowboy aki and his horse.

cowboy aki who swears he's not soft but then you catch him giving his horse a few extra treats here and there

cowboy aki who takes such good care of his horse and makes sure he's always clean, always having a brush on hand

asking aki for something and watching him shift through his saddle bag while getting embarrassed cause he can't find it through all the treats he has for his horse inside

cowboy aki who always accidentally holds everyone up because his horse stopped to try and eat a bush but he doesn't have the heart to try and pull him away, always going "what? he's just hungry..."

cowboy aki who always listens to his horse if he suddenly gets spooked, never trying to force him to do something or go somewhere he doesn't want to go

cowboy aki who always whispers a small "thank you" or "atta boy..." to his horse whenever you dismount. cowboy aki who always gets caught baby talking to his horse

setting up camp for the night and watching aki always take off his saddle and make sure he's comfortable before he even bothers setting up his bed roll for the night

going on trail rides with aki where you two normally just ride slowly down the trail and take in the nature but sometimes you'll share a horse and ride behind him with your arms around his back, and other times he'll want you in front just so he can rest his head against you

aki swears he doesn't have a soft spot for anyone, but one morning he wakes up only to realise his horse isn't there and he's panicked. visibly trying not to freak out as you two search around only to find him not that far away in a grass field just grazing away because apparently aki forgot to tie him tight enough to the tree. and you swear you can see aki crying cause he's just so relieved

sometimes it's hard to believe this man so gentle and attentive to his horse is the same gunslinger you see on all the wanted posters outside the sheriff station

...but then again, you know he isn't like the outlaw he's described to me. he was merely a kid who lost his family to sickness because they couldn't afford the medicine, so he turned to a life of crime not to take for himself... but to steal from the rich and give to the poor.

he may be as tough as nails but underneath he's got a heart richer than any gold he'd ever stolen.

I am unbelievably in love with this and although my brain is mush and I can't quite express it, I just need you to know and to share it with the world. I love. so much... outlaw aki who seems intimidating on the surface but he truly has a heart of gold.... I'm obsessed
