wow I sure do love a doomed queer man who looks like jesus and unwillingly gained power through the sacrifice of others, started the apocalypse and ultimately got erased from reality along with the person closest to them

TMA and TMAGP characters as I imagine them + songs that I like and associate with them? I haven't thought about it that much and also it is NOT songs they would like,,,, I love Gerry he would NOT be a marina fan. But I am <3 so...
Also I just picked the songs from the pool of songs/bands that I like. Some of them are very obvious . Some of them I picked for a specific reason that I am really trying not to overexplain since I already cluttered the post so much you can barely look at the drawings (which took me so fuc*ING long to draw, I'm an idiot for taking the focus from them). So, don't judge me for the songs 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Also, I really wanted to draw Oliver banks as well. Or Anabelle. Or both. Also Michael crew. But I was tired of drawing honestly and university is already drowning me. 💃💃💃💃💃💃

I think part of the reason horror is so important, especially in dark times, is that it deals with the question: When you can't stop what's coming for you, what do you do instead?
When the horror is cosmic, when the dread is too big to be changed, the things that the characters in a well-written horror do still matter, even if it doesn't change the resolution. We feel in an instinctive narrative way that they matter. Small ways of fighting back, forming relationships in the midst of it all, a character picking a tiny goal like keeping one person safe for as long as they can and throwing their life at it again and again, another finding beauty and pointing it out between one calamity and the next... It matters to them, and it matters to the other characters. The middle part matters, even if it doesn't change the ending.
It's not about hope. You don't have to have hope - you can feel in your bones that everything's fucked, and it can be 100% true, but the middle part still matters. I think, in times when it's hard to reach a bar as high as hope, that's what makes horror more accessible. Sometimes you need hope, but sometimes you just need to know that the middle part matters.

Tma characters as hyperspecific non-categorised experiences. Part 2
Gertrude: The scratchy cough you get in the back of your throat after opening a book older than you are and breathing in the dust
Agnes: That moment after putting your hand on something hot when you realise you're about to get burnt but it hasn't started hurting yet
Peter Lukas: Getting your head dunked underwater and feeling the pressure in your sinus mixed with the bliss of the silence
Gerry: Licking coaldust off your lips after you've assembled a fire.
Micheal distortion: The shape of a bright neon sign burnt into your vision that becomes ever so clear when your eyes are closed
Micheal crew: The nagging insistence of brushing up against a low voltage wire but being unable to tell where it is to avoid it.
Maxwell rayner: Being handed a pamphlet for a religion that isn't yours as a child that's been convinced yours is all that's right.

Okay, what are some random as head cannons you have for TMA?
Tim Did ballet as a kid (but it was really more of a gymnastic class target to girls), and really enjoys dancing Very poor relation with his family: he never got along with his mother, and Danny acted like a mediator for the pair. His father passed while Danny was still alive and once he was gone neither bothered to stay in touch. Wasian, and his mother is originally from Hong Kong Jon temporarily replaced Danny in Tim’s life as a younger brother when he started the Institute, however that relationship faded at the end of s2. Danny used to travel a lot, and got hyperfixated on different activities and would seek out where he best could practice it: surfing, snowboarding, sailing, rock climbing etc. He could be gone for months before he got bored and jump on the next thing. He would always bring Tim a souvenir including T-shirts, candy and bracelets.
Sasha Middle child in a rather big family, her fear of being forgotten is rooted in her childhood. Sasha is left-handed, but notsasha is right (another key difference is Sasha never takes off the bracelet Tim gave her, notsasha doesn’t even acknowledge it). Smoker Career driven, and in a constant need to prove herself Her necklaces are from Gertrude. Gertrude wanted to prepare Sasha for the role of the Archivist, and Sasha experienced a sense of guilt when Elias pick Jon instead, feeling she let Gertrude down.
Others Peter Lukas wears an eyepatch he doesn’t need (to mess with Elias) Agnes is Swedish Jane Prentiss used to be Pagan Daisy with floral tattoos Oliver Banks with an Egyptian background Melanie Doc Martens Lesbian Michael is a spiral and Helen is a twist

Can I ask—what’s the difference between “by coercion” and “unawareness/conditioning”?
Yeah, sometimes I wonder if the wording is a bit confusing. As it's put in the intro post:
Yes, by coercion: they would go through with it, but only if threatened with a loved one's life or something along those lines.
Yes, by unawareness or conditioning: they wouldn't realize until it's too late or would be raised to be an avatar, unaware their way of existence is not normal.
To explain a bit further (spoilers for several character arcs in TMA):
Coercion means the character would be forced or manipulated into it by someone or something. It requires a degree of awareness of what is happening (otherwise they'd go under unawareness).
Robert Montauk being forced to work for The People's Church of the Divine Host to get his wife back could be an example, though I'm not sure he ever achieved full Dark avatar status.
Basira would have ended up in this category if she'd continued to work for the institute long enough to become an Eye avatar, as Elias forced her to sign the contract under threat of Daisy's life.
I'd probably put Martin in the coercion category too, since he was going along with Peter Lukas and The Lonely to potentially save Jon.
Conditioning means that the character was groomed into it by someone from a young age, or born to be an avatar. It should be noted that this only applies to people or beings who under other circumstances could have made a different choice. A being that came into existence as an expression of a Fear would be manifestation instead.
Agnes Montague is kind of the defining example of this category, though members of the Lukas family being raised into it also count.
I think Gerry Keay could be another example of this. Eye avatarhood specifically wasn't a foregone conclusion for him, but he never really had a chance at a normal life. Willingly may be more accurate; he didn't choose to get involved with the Fears, but he did choose The Eye.
Unawareness is pretty self-explanatory, though I would point out this doesn't mean that the character never realises they are transforming. That (strictly speaking) wouldn't actually work, since becoming an avatar does require an active choice at some point. In this case it's more that the character doesn't realise until they're at the point of no return and the choice they are making is between death or becoming an avatar. If they refuse once they realise it'd be "go along but stop before transformation".
Jon is an example. Coercion could also be argued, given that Elias was definitely pushing him to go further and further using the (false) threat of the Unknowing, but I think Jon was too unaware of how he was being manipulated to go in coercion.
I think Michael Shelley would also go into this category. He was manipulated into it by Gertrude, but he had no idea what was going to happen. His case is a bit of a strange one in general though, I'm not sure he even had any affinity for The Distortion to start with.
At the end of the day, these are just my opinions and you can vote however you want, but I hope this helps answer your question! (Sorry for the essay)
