One of the things that I really like about MXTX's work is the way she writes love. The characters love each other because of their qualities, personalities, values, interactions, shared experiences, understanding, kindness and support towards each other. And sure because of attraction. But love hasn't much to do with sexuality. In fact, assumed sexuality of the other is the reason why characters hesitate to express their love. And isn't that interesting? While sexuality obviously matters, it's independent of love.

This is also something I find lacking in a lot of straight romances. He's a man, she's a woman, what else could there be between them but romantic love? Umm... many things actually. They can be best friends, acquaintances, rivals who dislike each other, colleagues who are just being polite, people who experienced the same unfortunate incident and so get it, people who just respect each other's skill/talent, found siblings, team members, people who tolerate each other because of common friends/relatives, people who only talk to each other about a singular shared interest, online friends who don't even know each other's real names, etc.

In real life, relationship between people goes beyond gender and sexuality. Sexuality is often used in straight romances to explain love. I have never understood it. To me sexuality can cause attraction but it doesn't necessarily lead to love. She's pretty but doesn't know it, he's hot and remembers a thing about her, they met again and again is not enough of a reason.

Love is borne out of aspects beyond that. I think MXTX does a good job of establishing conditions that lead to love, compatibility, devotion, and respect. She also does well in creating characters deep enough that they are human before men*. That's why even platonic/familial relationships are convincing in her works.

This is also why, in my experience, usually LGBTQ+ romances are better written than straight ones. Authors have to work hard to get to know their own characters. When love is not a convenient result of gender, sexuality or attraction, it has to be explored as a shared human experience. And that's when it's compelling. When love is about innate humanity rather than "because author said so."

*(men (as gender identity) bec most characters in her works are men and well it's BL and this post mostly focuses on romantic love).

I had a very odd dream where a train (or bus?) I was on got yanked into another world. While my dream had nothing to do with SVSSS, it did have my waking self thinking about how hilarious and/or horrifying such a thing could be as an AU.

Imagine Shen Yuan riding the subway, train or bus one day, when something happens and his whole car gets yanked into the world of PIDW. Nobody else in the car knows anything about PIDW, so Shen Yuan finds himself with the self imposed task of keeping this eccentric group of strangers alive in a weird world full of demons, monsters, and aphrodisiac plants.

The group’s first assumption would probably be that they’re still on modern earth, and just got teleported somewhere. Their second assumption, if they come across common folk, might be they somehow ended up in the past.

Then they run into some monster, or people riding on swords with specific uniforms, or a commoner mentions a name or event only Shen Yuan recognizes. The rest of the party debates what sort of Xianxia or Wuxia world they’ve ended up in, while poor Shen Yuan sweats bullets. He knows exactly what world they are in, and they are so screwed.

I have this image of poor beleaguered nerd Shen Yuan successfully protecting and leading this group of primary school kids, their cute teacher, and a handful of grannies and grandpas, while all the other adults and older teens keep wandering off and getting themselves in trouble.

Ok so… I usually do shampoo, conditioner + detangler brush, rinse, pat dry with an old t-shirt, LCO my damp hair, brush again, and then I just accept that it will shrink as it air dries because I don’t feel like twisting it to stretch it out, and I hate how it feels after it’s blow dried.

Today, I brushed after the leave-in, again after the curl smoothie, and again after massaging oil into my scalp, and my hair? dried?? with minimal shrinkage??? and kept its curl pattern????

With how animated Nani being shown to have been a professional surfer in the making before her's and Lilo's parents died and she chose to take custody of Lilo and therefore give up the professional surfing (I say 'chose' because people really do seem to forget she chose to do that and wasn't forced too like defenders of the live action act like she was) and live action decided to change that into wanting to study in college and now animated Astrid wanting to be a protector is changed in live action to wanting...to be the chief of Berk, feel like we need to have that discussion again one of these days that these live actions only seem to view girl power through the lens off wanting to be literal girlbosses with being leaders or wanting to go into academics, not that girl power is just the girls being able to do what they want, no matter what is, even if it is becoming a sports athlete or becoming a protector of the people.

I just want to make it clear that I will be in the trenches for Amy Rose and I am begging Paramount to give her an explosive personality.

She is not the mother of the group who scolds the boys, if anything she's the one who makes the plans with Tails to make sure they don't get caught. She has spars with Knuckles. She is the little gremilin who is just as sarcastic as Sonic and causes trouble on purpose just like him. I want Amy to have agency in the narrative and for her to have a story beyond any male character, something that belongs solely to her while she's feminine and lovable and has a crush on Sonic because why not, we have evolved enough to know that a female character can be strong and feminine.

And most importantly... I want Amy to be crazy. Totally insane. I want her to be traumatized and flawed and kind and complex and temperamental and multifaceted just like the boys are. I want to see a wild and deep teenage girl on screen and I won't tolerate any hate if she is because fandons in general don't know how to deal with them.

I wanna a real girl on the movies and I refuse to settle for anything less.

Downfall has only just started, but already I'm deeply curious what Bells Hells reaction will be to seeing it play out. I've mentioned before that I suspect the dislike or outright disdain some of the party feels for the gods - most notably Ashton and Laudna, but also Imogen at times - is in part a product of the gods being so distant as to not feel like real people to them, and therefore being easy scapegoats.

It’s easy to see the mortal victims of Ludinus and the Vanguard as just that: victims. The Hells have met them, have been them. They have not seen or felt the gods suffer in the same way. Laudna even went so far as to blame the gods for mortal deaths and suffering after the solstice, even as the gods are the ones under attack. They feel uniquely abandoned by the world, and it's easy to blame these distant, powerful figures for their hardship. Certainly much easier than to see the mortal systems that enabled their harm, or to actively seek improvement on their own.

But to see the gods now, not just as people but as mortals, with all the flaws and vulnerabilities and fears of any of the Hells, with loved ones of their own and the same desperate sense of self-preservation as any living thing, will they be able to hold onto the disdain that they’ve clung to for so long?

Me, watching some YJS fans justify what Shauna did to Mari by using clips of Mari and Jackie giggling in s1 (normal teenage girl things), or Mari speaking the truth and trying to take Jackie's jacket (even though it was the middle of winter and the group were already sharing clothes), with said fans saying that they've would've done worse to Mari in response, acting like that makes them any better:

also. as much as i think it was the right call for veilguard's cc to make its top surgery scars look very modern and neat given youtubers were already calling them "mutilation scars" as they were lol, i still have so many questions about it. like it's the first real example of surgery we see in the entire series beyond basic amputations. i'm interested in a society that figures out trans surgeries alongside basic medicine - like what if nipple grafts for aesthetic purposes were actually how they figured out better skin graft techniques to help burn victims. have they figured out bottom surgeries? hysterectomies? figuring out hormones was probably a pretty big medical breakthrough and would require understanding the endocrine system, unless the hrt is magical, which would mean there's a divide with some parts of the transition being practical medicine and some being magical healing; does this change the way some people transition? would it make hrt less popular in the south? and this all comes back to trans rep feeling very halfhearted / poorly thought out when people just throw in fully passing / seemingly medically transitioned characters with 0 thought into how they accessed their physical transition lol.
