personally i think the best way to look at this election in terms of "who am i (as a viewer) going to vote for" is that first and foremost, for us, this is a STORY. we are watching a story (and also a fun game and funny people doing funnies together, but for election purposes we'll say that)
therefore our goal should not be "which candidate has the best policies" or "which candidate is best for the island". we don't CARE. that's not our business.
we don't care what's good for the islanders. THAT'S NOT OUR BUSINESS. we're not islanders nor are we players. we are the guy in the bar watching the Truman show. our business is "what story do we want to see?"
each candidate offers something different.
(note: i don't claim to understand their platforms, for personal reasons i haven't followed it closely bc i kinda suspected there was gonna be drama and didn't feel like stressing myself over minecraft politics; my local elections freak me out enough lol)
for a rough example:
elquackity: obvious federation plant, clear enemy for the rest of the server. man-vs-government arc.
forever: did you like cellbit's infiltration arc? i could predict something like that following in forever's footsteps (forever sneaks around the federation, learns a few secrets, continues to make his changes to the server but does perhaps experience horrors, most likely a slower burn than cellbit's arc but certainly a lot of espionage and theorycrafting)
gegg: gegg chamg e world
those of y'all with a sounder grasp on candidates, sound off in the notes on what we can expect FROM A STORY PERSPECTIVE; i actively ignore the debates (they make me want to cry lmfao). i don't care what their platform is exactly, where will it take the story?
and i'll repossess your liver if i see any goddamn cc hate or harassment in there. this is more than not a safe space for that, this is an active danger zone. watch yourselves. <3

i think the funniest flavor of liujiu for me is one where sj goes into it like "ah yes I am going to EXPLOIT lqg's feelings and EMOTIONALLY MANIPULATE him for my own protection and safety" but he catches feelings hard and doesn't realize this for several years. one day he has a crisis at 4am about the fact that he does actually experience positive emotions towards lqg and frantically wakes lqg up to say "i. i think i love you. what the fuck", to which lqg is like "we've been married for five years. what are you talking about."

The thing about trent ikithon is that he's not just their boss or their mentor. In a pretty real way, he is their father—linguistically, caleb calls the other volstrucker his brothers and sisters, present tense, trent calls their dinner a family reunion, he talks about being proud of caleb and hurt by having to hurt him like he is reconciling a wayward son. But they were also literally taken from their families, stripped of those connections, made into dependent wards of the state, with one man to raise them and give them their livelihoods and their discipline and their home. The whole bren/astrid/eadwulf story is so uncomfortable and fraught with the understanding that they love each other, but they have also been forced to seek support and affection and love in the only connections they are allowed to have, with the only people they know will understand. Like astrid is so clearly in a cycle of abuse, she resents trent but she stays and she can only imagine overcoming it by being stronger than him. It's almost a king lear story, a succession story, it's about generational trauma. Leaving the fold is not just leaving a career it is abandoning your family.

I thought I managed to get through all the holiday travel without getting sick but lmao oh BOY have I been proven wrong. 😩 Rocking a fever and some sinus pressure/congestion that quite frankly should be illegal, though thankfully that seems to be the extent of it; nothing that screams Covid, thank God. Gonna be ushering in the New Year with cold meds and a lot of kleenex, apparently. 🤧🤒
