LOOK: Filipino fisherfolks and environmental groups protest in front of the Netherlands embassy in Makati City today, March 22, to demand justice for what they call "grave corporate abuse" by Dutch dredging company Boskalis Westminster NV.
According to Kalikasan - People's Network for the Environment, the Dutch company is involved in several reclamation projects in the country such as the San Miguel Corporation's New Manila International Airport (NMIA) in Bulacan.
NMIA is considered by Boskalis as their "largest project in history."
“Boskalis is profiting from a project that bypassed environmental and social scrutiny, ignored warnings from impact assessments, and, worst, used military intimidation to coerce ‘consent’ from affected communities," said anti-reclamation activist Jhed Tamano.
The groups also seek accountability from the Dutch export credit agency Atradius Dutch State Business for supporting the construction of NMIA by providing export credit insurance valued at EUR 1.5 billion.
"We urge the Netherlands government to investigate corporate abuses by Dutch companies and -- until these abuses are thoroughly investigated -- to pressure the Philippine government to halt the airport project,” said Jonila Castro of Kalikasan.
Meanwhile, environmental advocates also protest in Papendrecht, Netherlands, where the Boskalis Westminster NV headquarters is located.

I went to the free Palestine protest at Marble Arch in London today. It was insane how many people showed up to show their support. It was like a sea, waves and waves of people chanting for the freedom of Palestine. We marched from Marble Arch all the way to Downing Street. I know people think protests don’t make a difference but at least it gives us hope.
#my thoughts 💭#so many people of different cultures and ethnicities were there#sooo many Jewish people were there to stand with Palestine and against Israel#also against Rishi Sunak bro I hate that guy 😭😭😭😭#but anyways I will continue praying for the safety of the Palestinians and the reclamation of their land

Dear Lady Lord Bread,
How are you doing today? Have you discovered any new information you'd like to share?
Sincerely, Anon.
I’m doing well. And New Information? Hmm…
I’m learning a lot about Land Reclamation in my class! Mining and abandoned industrial land are a huge problem all around the world. There is a lot of effort put into reclaiming land back to a healthy state, not just for the environment but for people in those affected areas. The biggest problem facing these clean ups is cost, but it’s been done before and I’m learning just how complex it can be to clean up these areas right! I’m loving it 🥰
#I love this stuff so much. the future has so many young people looking to protect it and these classes although sad give me so much hope#a lot of like minded people#and adults!#environment#bread#ask stuff#environmental science#mining#land reclamation

In this episode, Christina De La Rocha talks to Dr Hélène Jacot Des Combes, Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation Advisor to the National Disaster Management Office of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. They discuss sea level rise, infrastructure that can adapt to climate change, and land reclamation and protection. Dr Des Combes speaks passionately about reparations (for decades of colonialism, the US’s testing of atomic weapons on the atolls of the Marshall Islands, forced relocation of the Marshallese people, climate injustice, and much more) and advocates for the Marshallese peoples’ right to their own lands.
You can read more about the Marshall Islands' unique position at the forefront of sea level rise at PacificaRisa.org. For further reading, check out the Republic of the Marshall Islands' Climate Change website here, you can read up on the Government of the Marshall Islands' Adaptation Communication (Dec 2020) here, and the World Bank's page on the Marshall Islands has some informative visuals.

Challenge #03683-J030: The Best Time to Mend
"I can't... keep up, even with... magic."
"Worry not, I help."
The giant grabbed Wraithvine, his young mage apprentice, Gikka, and the cat, put them on their shoulders, and kept running. Time was running out, that bad storm was getting closer, and safety was a distance yet. -- Anon Guest
Cikaros ran hell for leather, feet making craters in the otherwise blasted landscape. Normally, she would have to step carefully to avoid villages, hamlets, and isolated cottages, but nobody came to the Desolate Moors for a reason. Reason one was that the whole place was the result of a magical war in eons past.
Reason two was the storm that was gaining on them. One strike of Wild Magic could change someone's life forever.
There were things living in the Desolate Moors that owed their existence to the Wild Magics there.

Actually the English started doing it in the US have you ever taken a look at New Jersey and Pennsylvania? Actually Ohio too so many forests got turned into corn fields, and also the Western US is dependent on water that doesn't exist the Colorado River has nearly run dry a few years but we do still have some old big Growth forests left and a shitton of mature forest
Actually your society is the freaks for shooting everything that moves and burning half your "nature reserves" every year so that upperclass dandies can eat leaded pheasant. North Americans are the well adjusted ones here, your country has become a desolate suburban lawn in island form

Im reading the greatest state's developer and im liking it very much, its very funny and i smell some mysteries underlining Lloyd transmigration
But! Am i the only who is very, VERY worried about ecological impact that is happening with the "Wetlands Reclamation Project"????? LIKE. MY GUY. THERE'S WHOLE ECOSYSTEMS THERE. YOU EVEN MENTIONED THAT THERE ARE UNKNOWN SPECIES ANS THAT THE SWAP EXISTS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS
And im a little bit annoyed that in the narration, jt only goes repeting how the swap is useless, wasted land, and how great Lloyd is changing that.
"Useless land" to YOU. Just bc it is unprofitable for humans doesn't mean it is useless. I know shit about ecology/biology but i think it's obvious that a big swamp that existed for thousands of year is vital to the area's ecosystem and that destroying it would bring unimaginable impact to the ecosystem.
Just. Dude. How the hell do you live in the 21st century - year 2024, no less - where topics such as ecological impact, preservation, and environmentalism are more important and prevalent than ever and somehow not stop your tracks and think about these stuff when you're writing a novel about civil engineering (that, as far as i imagine, at least have to deal with those topic in some way) in fantasy world???
Like. Im also a writer, so i really can't imagine not considering the impact that your characters can have on the environment. Also, this is a webnovel, so it's more probably than not that the entire story will brush that off instead of addressing it in any way? Which is a pity because i think it would be really interesting if the story addressed how urbanization can affect the environment because it would still stick to the topic of civil engineering and all of that
Ik its ficitonal and all of that, but im grieving the loss of that ecosystem....
#🪐.txt#i feel like im insane for getting hung on that#i want to enter the webnovel. grab that guy and scream at the top of my lungs about how reckless is to do big changes on the environment#like that and how many species will be lost and my fucking gid please consult a specialist before doing a big construction over thousand old#and i-forgot-how-many-meters swamp#and oh god imagine the research that could be done there. imagine how much information could be gathered after studying that swamp. how much#advancement could be done in studies related to ecology and biology#also. 'reclamation' my ass 😭😭 humans stop thinking that land is yours and not nature's#it was yall asses that settled down there. that swamp existed before of that. it feels so hypocritical#the fact that its an european setting makes me even less sympathetic....

You can now enjoy the "director's commentary" for my short story "A Reclamation of Beavers" on Analog Magazine's blog. I talk about all kinds of stuff (including one of the rare times I talk about my day job) and I link to a lot of cool research on what happens to depleted land set aside for rewilding.

ABS-CBN: 790 liters of oil-water mixture collected from MV Mirola-1
Mirola-1 is the third vessel to cause an oil leak in Bataan this month.
The [Philippine Coast Guard or] PCG is also responding to the oil spill from MTKR Terranova with 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil and MTKR Jason Bradley with 5,500 liters of diesel.
According to PCG, “very thin oil sheens” are still observed at ground zero, as of Monday, but control measures are in place, including oil spill booms laid, skimmers on site, and oil dispersants being employed, while fabrication of metal capping is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the coast guard and contracted salvor FES Challenger Salvour and Builders are continuing salvage operations on MTKR Jason Bradley.
2024 Aug. 5
It is projected that almost 46,000 fisherfolk will be affected by the oil spill if left uncontrolled, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon, and Region 4-A. Currently, Pambansang Lakas ng Mamamalakaya (PAMALAKAYA) reported that 29,000 fisherfolk from Cavite alone, were at risk, while 9,000 fisherfolk in Bataan.
In an earlier report of Bulatlat, those situated in the coastal areas were victims of severe flooding during the onslaught of Carina, particularly in Navotas, where the Navotas Bay Reclamation Project is being built. The project affected 1,000 families, while the New Manila International Airport (NMIA) has displaced around 700 families in Bulacan, according to Laderas.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that SL Harbor Bulk Terminal Corporation, a subsidiary of San Miguel Shipping and Lighterage Corporation, chartered the said vessel to transport the industrial fuel oil. SMC is also the company behind the NMIA reclamation and the Mindoro oil spill last year.
2024 Aug. 5
Bulatlat on Twitter @bulatlat:
‘Hold San Miguel and PH government accountable:’ Environmentalists, fisherfolk, and scientists hold a press conference today to expose the impacts of compounding problems of recent oil spills, reclamation projects, and inadequate disaster response in the onslaught of Carina.

mhhh maybe the age of reclamation? or the manmade age haha i'm not good at this at all but maybe this helps a little at least?
reclamation is quite good!! a very good double edge of like. the idea of reclaiming stability after an end of a world and a show of good faith from the church to the public but it also can be read as a statement of the church claiming power for itself.
help me name an age for dnd
#speaking#answered#worldbuilding#id want to twist manmade age into like. age of man or smthn similar and bc its like#a dnd / ttrpg setting i dont know if i could shift that into the vibe i want However#this Is very helpful reclamation is really good#id been considering smthn like. ''age of gods'' or smthn else like self serving but i dont think theyd do smthn so heavy handed#campaign: the shattered lands
