An essay on Furiosa, the politics of the Wasteland, Arthurian literature and realistic vs. formalistic CGI
Tumblr media
Mad Max: Fury Road absolutely enraptured me when it came out nearly a decade ago, and I will cop to seeing it four times at the theatre. For me (and many others who saw the light of George Miller) it set new standards for action filmmaking, storytelling and worldbuilding, and I could pop in its Blu Ray at any time and never get tired of it. Perhaps not surprisingly, I was deeply apprehensive about the announced prequel for Fury Road's actual main character, Furiosa, even if Miller was still writing and directing. We didn't need backstory for Furiosa—hell, Fury Road is told in such a way that NOTHING in it requires explicit backstory. And since it focuses on the Yung Furiosa, it meant Charlize Theron couldn't return with another career-defining performance. Plus, look at all that CGI in the trailer, it can't be as good as Fury Road.
Turns out I was silly to doubt George Miller, M.D., A.O., writer and director of Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet One & Two.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is excellent, and I needn't have worried about it not being as good as Fury Road because it is not remotely trying to be Fury Road. Fury Road is a lean, mean machine with no fat on it, nothing extraneous, operating with constant forward momentum and only occasionally letting up to let you breathe a little; Furiosa is a classical epic, sprawling in scope, scale and structure, and more than happy to let the audience simmer in a quiet, almost painfully still moment. If its opening spoken word sequence by that Gandalf of the Wastes himself, the First History Man, didn't already clue you in, it unfolds like something out of myth, a tale told over and over again and whose possible embellishments are called attention to in the dialogue itself. Where Fury Road scratched the action nerd itch in my head like you wouldn't believe, Furiosa was the equivalent of Miller giving the undulating folds of my English major brain a deep tissue massage. That's great! I, for one, love when sequels/prequels endeavour to be fundamentally different movies from what they're succeeding/preceding, operating in different modes, formats and even genres, and more filmmakers should aim for it when building on an existing series.
This movie has been on my mind so much in the past week that I've ended up dedicating several cognitive processes to keeping track of all of the different ponderings it's spawned. Thankfully, Furiosa is divided into chapters (fun fact: putting chapter cards in your movie is a quick way to my heart), so it only seems fitting that I break up all of these cascading thoughts accordingly.
1. The Pole of Inaccessibility
Tumblr media
Furiosa herself actually isn't the protagonist for the first chapter of her own movie, instead occupying the role of a (very crafty and resourceful) damsel in distress for those initial 30-40 minutes. The real hero of the opening act, which plays out like a game of cat and mouse, is Furiosa's mother Mary Jabassa, who rides out into the wasteland first on horseback and then astride a motorcycle to track down the band of raiders that has stolen away her daughter. Mary's brought to life by Miller and Nico Lathouris' economical writing and a magnetic performance by newcomer Charlee Fraser, who radiates so much screen presence in such relatively little time and with one of those instant "who is SHE??" faces. She doesn't have many lines, but who needs them when Fraser can convey volumes about Mary with just a flash of her eyes or the effortless way she swaps out one of her motorcycle's wheels for another. To be quite candid, I'm not sure of the last time I fell in love with a character so quickly.
You notice a neat aesthetic contrast between mother and daughter in retrospect: Mary Jabassa darts into the desert barefoot, clad in a simple yet elegant dress, her wolf cut immaculate, only briefly disguising herself with the ugly armour of a raider she just sniped, and when she attacks it's almost with grace, like some Greek goddess set loose in the post-apocalyptic Aussie outback with just her wits and a bolt-action rifle; we track Furiosa's growth over the years by how much of her initially conventional beauty she has shed, quite literally in one case (hair buzzed, severed arm augmented with a chunky mechanical prosthesis, smeared in grease and dirt from head to toe, growling her lines at a lower octave), and by how she loses her mother's graceful approach to movement and violence, eventually carrying herself like a blunt instrument. Yet I have zero doubt the former raised the latter, both angels of different feathers but with the same steel and resolve. Of fucking course this woman is Furiosa's mother, and in the short time we know her we quickly understand exactly why Furiosa has the drive and morals she does without needing to resort to didactic exposition.
Anyway, I was tearing up by the end of the first chapter. Great start!
2. Lessons from the Wasteland
Tumblr media
Most movies—most stories, really—don't actually tell the entire narrative from A to Z. Perhaps the real meat of the thing is found from H to T, and A-G or U-Z are unnecessary for conveying the key narrative and themes. So many prequels fail by insisting on telling the A-G part of the story, explaining how the hero earned a certain nickname or met their memorable sidekick—but if that stuff was actually interesting, they likely would have included it in the original work. The greatest thing a prequel can actually do is recontextualize, putting iconic characters or moments in a new light, allowing you to appreciate them from a different angle. All of season 2 of Fargo serves to explain why Molly Solverson's dad is appropriately wary when Lorne Malvo enters his diner for a SINGLE SCENE in the show's first season. David's arc from the Alien prequels Prometheus and Covenant—polarizing as those entries are—adds another layer to why Ash is so protective of the creature in the first movie. Andor gives you a sense of what it's like for a normal, non-Jedi person to live under the boot of the Empire and why so many of them would join up with the Rebel Alliance—or why they would desire to wear that boot, or even just crave the chance to lick it.
Furiosa is one of those rare great prequels because it makes us take a step back and consider the established world with a little more nuance, even if it's still all so absurd. In Fury Road, Immortan Joe is an awesome, endlessly quotable villain, completely irredeemable, and basically a cartoon. He works perfectly as the antagonist of that breakneck, Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote-ass movie, but if you step outside of its adrenaline-pumping narrative for even a moment you risk questioning why nobody in the Citadel or its surrounding settlements has risen up against him before. Hell, why would Furiosa even work for him to begin with? But then you see Dementus and company tear-assing around the wasteland, seizing settlements and running them into the ground, and you realize Joe and his consortium offer something that Dementus reasonably can't: stability—granted, an unwavering, unchangeable stability weighted in favour of Joe's own brutal caste system, but stability nonetheless. It really makes you wonder, how badly does a guy have to suck to make IMMORTAN JOE of all people look like a sane, competent and reasonable ruler by comparison?!?
…and then they open the door to the vault where he keeps his wives, and in a flash you're reminded just how awful Joe is and why Furiosa will risk her life to help some of these women flee from him years later. This new context enriches Joe and makes it more believable that he could maintain power for so long, but it doesn't make him any less of a monster, and it says a lot about Furiosa's hate for Dementus that she could grit her teeth and work for this sick old tyrant.
3. The Stowaway
Tumblr media
Here's another wild bit of trivia about this movie: you don't actually see top-billed actress Anya Taylor-Joy pop up on screen until roughly halfway through, once Furiosa is in her late teens/early twenties. Up until this point she's been played by Alyla Browne, who through the use of some seamless and honestly really impressive CGI has been given Anya's distinctive bug eyes [complimentary]. It's one of those bold choices that really works because Miller commits to it so hard, though it does make me wish Browne's name was up on the poster next to Taylor-Joy's.
Speaking of CGI, I should talk about what seems to be a sticking point for quite a few people: if there's been one consistent criticism of Furiosa so far, it's that it doesn't look nearly as practical or grounded as Fury Road, with more obvious greenscreen and compositing, and what previously would've been physical stunt performers and pyrotechnics have been replaced with their digital equivalents for many shots. Simply put, it doesn't look as real! For a lot of people, that practicality was one of Fury Road's primary draws, so I won't try to quibble if they're let down by Furiosa's overt artificiality, but to be honest I'm actually quite fine with it. It helps that this visual discrepancy doesn't sneak up on you but is incredibly apparent right from the aerial zoom-down into Australia in the very first scene, so I didn't feel misled or duped.
Fury Road never asks you to suspend your disbelief because it all looks so believable; Furiosa jovially prods you to suspend that disbelief from the get-go and tune into it on a different wavelength. It's a classical epic, and like the classical epics of the 1950s and 60s it has a lot of actors standing in front of what clearly are matte paintings. It feels right! We're not watching fact, we're watching myth. I'm willing to concede there might be a little bit of post-hoc rationalization on my part because I simply love this movie so much, but I'm not holding the effects in Furiosa to the same standard as those in Fury Road because I simply don't believe Miller and his crew are attempting to replicate that approach. Without the extensive CGI, we don't get that impressive long, panning take where a stranded Furiosa scans the empty, dust-and-sun-scoured wasteland (75% Sergio Leone, 25% Andrei Tarkovsky), or the Octoboss and his parasailing goons. For the sake of intellectual exercise I did try imagining them filming the Octoboss/war rig sequence with the same immersive practical approach they used for Fury Road's stunts, however I just kept picturing dead stunt performers, so perhaps the tradeoff was worth it!
4. Homeward
Tumblr media
Around the same time we meet the Taylor-Joy-pilled Furiosa in Chapter 3, we're introduced to Praetorian Jack, the chief driver for the convoys running between the Citadel and its allied settlements. Jack's played by Tom Burke, who pulled off a very good Orson Welles in Mank! and who I should really check out in The Souvenir one of these days. He's also a cool dude! Here are some facts about Praetorian Jack:
He's decked out in road leathers with a pauldron stitched to one shoulder
He's stoic and wary, but still more or less personable and can carry on a conversation
Professes to a certain cynicism, to quote Special Agent Albert Rosenfield, but ultimately has a capacity for kindness and will do the right thing
Shoots a gun real good
Can drive like nobody's business
So in other words, Jack is Mad Max. But also, no, he clearly isn't! He looks and dresses like Mad Max (particularly Mel Gibson's) and does a lot of the same things "Mad" Max Rockatansky does, but he's also very explicitly a distinct character. It's a choice that seems inexplicable and perhaps even lazy on its face, except this is a George Miller movie, so of course this parallel is extremely purposeful. Miller has gone on record saying he avoids any kind of strict chronology or continuity for his Mad Max movies, compared to the rigid canons for Star Trek and Star Wars, and bless him for doing so. It's more fun viewing each Mad Max entry as a new revision or elaboration on a story being told again and again generations after the fall, mutating in style, structure and focus with every iteration, becoming less grounded as its core narrative is passed from elder to youth, community to community, genre to genre, until it becomes myth. (At least, my English major brain thinks it's more fun.) In fact there's actually something Arthurian to it, where at first King Arthur was mentioned in several Welsh legends before Geoffrey of Monmouth crafted an actual narrative around him, then Chrétien de Troyes added elements like Lancelot and infused the stories with more romance, and then with Le Morte d'Arthur Thomas Malory whipped the whole cycle together into one volume, which T.H. White would chop and screw and deconstruct with The Once and Future King centuries later.
All this to say: maybe Praetorian Jack looks and sounds and acts like Max because he sorta kinda basically is, being just one of many men driving back and forth across the wasteland, lending a hand on occasion, who'll be conflated into a single, legendary "Mad Max" at some point down the line in a different History Man's retelling of Furiosa's odyssey. Sometimes that Max rips across the desert in his V8 Interceptor, other times driving a big rig. Perhaps there's a dog tagging along and/or a scraggly and at first aggravating ally played by Bruce Spence or Nicholas Hoult. Usually he has a shotgun. But so long as you aren't trying to kill him, he'll help you out.
5. Beyond Vengeance
Tumblr media
The Mad Max movies have incredibly iconic villains—Immortan Joe! Toecutter! the Lord Humongous!—but they are exactly that, capital V Villains devoid of humanizing qualities who you can't wait to watch bad things happen to. Furiosa appears to continue this trend by giving us a villain who in fact has a mustache long enough that he could reasonably twirl it if he so wanted, but ironically Dementus ends up being the most layered antagonist in the entire series, even moreso than the late Tina Turner's comparatively benevolent Aunty Entity from Beyond Thunderdome. And because he's played by Chris Hemsworth, whose comedic delivery rivals his stupidly handsome looks, you lock in every time he's on screen.
Something so fascinating about Dementus is that, for a main antagonist, he's NOT all-powerful, and in fact quite the opposite: he's more conman than warlord, looking for the next hustle, the next gullible crowd he can preach to and dupe—though never for long. For all his bluster, at every turn he finds himself in way over his head and writing cheques he can't cash, and this self-induced Sisyphean torment makes him riveting to watch. You're tempted to pity Dementus but it's also quite difficult to spare sympathy for someone who's so quick to channel their rage and hurt and ego into thoughtless, burn-it-all-down destruction. When you're not laughing at him, you're hating his guts, and it's indisputably the best work of Chris Hemsworth's career.
It's in this final chapter that everything naturally comes to a head: Furiosa's final evolution into the character we meet at the start of Fury Road, the predictable toppling of Dementus' precariously built house of cards, and the mythmaking that has been teased since the very first scene becoming diagetic text, the last of which allows the movie to thoroughly explore the themes of vengeance it's been building to. A brief war begins, is summarized and is over in the span of roughly a minute, and on its face it's a baffling narrative choice that most other filmmakers would have botched. But our man Miller's smart enough to recognize that the result of this war is the most foregone of conclusions if you've been paying even the slightest bit of attention, so he effectively brushes past it to get to the emotional heart of the climax and an incredible "Oh shit!" payoff that cements Miller as one of mainstream cinema's greatest sickos.
Tumblr media
Fury Road remains the greatest Mad Max film, but Furiosa might be the best thing George Miller has ever made. If not his magnum opus, it does at least feel like his dissertation, and it makes me wish Warner Bros. puts enough trust in him despite Furiosa's poor box office performance that he's able to make The Wasteland. Absolutely ridiculous that a man just short of his 80th birthday was able to pull this off, and with it I feel confident calling him one of my favourite directors.

I usually don't do yearly recaps because my memory sucks December is one of the busiest months for me and I'm lucky if I get to gif at all but this year I thought I'd take a look at all of the gifsets I did in 2024 and see which shows, pairings and moments I liked the most.
✨FAV BLS OF 2024
1000 Years Old: 2024 was supposed to be the year of vampire BL (going by all the announcements and pilot trailers) but in the end only this one aired (edit: wait, I forgot about OMG! Vampire to protect myself 🥴) - and it was neither spicy nor particularly spooky. Instead, it was all heart and quirkiness and when it was over I cried for a week because of the bittersweet ending.
Tumblr media
Playboyy: This show is truly a masterpiece, with layers of subtext and social commentary. Also, it's fun and camp and sexy and ridiculous. I'm so glad it's going to get a second season.
Tumblr media
Caged Again: How come that a little show about a penguin and a panther is legit one of the best - if not THE BEST - Thai BL of the year?
Tumblr media
Knock Knock, Boys: I came for Best and Seng and Pak but then Almond and Latte bewitched me body and soul. Kongthup now owns me.
Tumblr media
Every You, Every Me: I don't know what I was expecting (well, okay, a whole lot of Mick & Top - which is exactly what I got) but it surely wasn't crying my eyes out for two episodes right in the middle of the show.
Tumblr media
Spare Me Your Mercy: Long awaited and currently still airing - I actually love this show a lot because it reminds me of all the detective dramas (esp Endeavour and Grantchester) I used to binge. Morse but make it queer is actually all I ever wanted.
Tumblr media
7 Days Before Valentine: This show's depth and artistry and stageplay-like character absolutely blew me away.
Tumblr media
I Saw You in My Dream: WeTV absolutely blew it out of the water this year with their many diverse productions, and this unassuming and charming little show with a supernatural twist (love me one of those!) was no exception.
Tumblr media
Monster Next Door: Big Thanakorn in his first main role with his first acting partner in an extremely fun and all around lovely Kongthup/WeTV production. And I just love how nuanced it was when they could have just stuck with the whole introvert/extrovert cliché.
Tumblr media
✨FAV PAIRINGS OF 2024
Hope x Save (Jack & Joker): These two completely took me by surprise, especially because I had such an intense reaction to Pee Phiravich's character in La Pluie. I had originally set my eyes on PromMark and while I definitely ate up their crumbs, HopeSave just checked all of my boxes: morally grey antagonists (at least for a while there), doomed by the narrative (until they actually got their happy ending, yay!) and ride and die for each other.
Tumblr media
Pete x Kenta (Pit Babe): I'll be a PeteKenta truther until the day I die (see all of the checkboxes above), and if Change2561 didn't subscribe to the branded pair model, they'd agree with me. As things are I'm actually kind of meh about Pit Babe 2. I bet KentaKim won't have knives at each other's throats!! (PeteWay is delicious though.)
Tumblr media
Prom x Nont (Playboyy): Uhhh, that's a lot of the same checked boxes. So maybe I have a type. Thanks 2024 for making me realise. Also, I hope these two make each other worse in season 2 (before they get their HEA because ultimately I'm vanilla like that).
Tumblr media
Latte x Almond (Knock Knock, Boys!): Oh God, these two. I was prepared to be ride or die for Thanwa and Peak but then LatteAlmond barged in with a pink sex toy and it was over for me. They just have so much heart and so much sincerity between them (and while their dynamics are different in Caged Again I'm really enjoying Nokia and Jaonine there too for pretty much the same reason + their incredible comedic timing).
Tumblr media
X x Namping (Every Me, Every You): It's probably a good thing we got these two for two episodes only because we might not have survived a whole 8 or 10 or even 12 episodes of them. Plus, the anthology-like character of the series made a sad ending possible in the first place, and I really appreciate it - even if it almost destroyed me.
Tumblr media
✨FAV MOMENTS OF 2024
Twins: For a moment there we had FrameRyan and it was beautiful.
Tumblr media
The Sign: Chalothorn stole the whole show for me and then when he inexplicably vanished I kind of stopped watching. Whoops.
Tumblr media
Deep Night: I have seen the throuple light thanks to SeijiPanKen.
Tumblr media
The Rebound: Frank Thanatsaran's acting (but also that scene...) overshadowing pretty much everything else (and now he's with Star Hunter which... you know... ehnnnn 🥲)
Tumblr media
To Be Continued: Fluke Pongsapat and Junior Khajbhunditt starring in a way underrated 8-episode netflix show with one of the most beautiful love scenes ever, and I've been wanting more of them ever since.
Tumblr media
Two Worlds: Kongthup giveth and Kongthup taketh away (aka for one and a half episodes I had Phupha and Khram and now I will never know peace).
Tumblr media
Century of Love: Offroad Kantapon as a sultry fox spirit.
Tumblr media
Sunset x Vibes: When Star Hunter remembered Fong and JJ exist and then they stole the whole entire show (there really wasn't much to steal though...).
Tumblr media
The Sign: Whatever was going on between Heng Asavarid and Nat Sakdatorn in this scene BUT I NEED MORE (pls Idolfactory I'm begging you release Heng from his solo actor prison).
Tumblr media
Two Worlds: Kongthup choosing violence by giving Pak and Mon one of the spiciest love scenes of the year.
Tumblr media
The Rebound: THESE TWO (boxes checked!! But also I need more Nammon in my life).
Tumblr media
Kidnap: GMMTV's strategic placement of Papang in a suit.
Tumblr media
The Hidden Moon: Whenever that tiny low-budget show got surprisingly deep and artsy (and also spicy).
Tumblr media
My Stand-In: When I watched a whole show for one (1) character that wasn't really a character at all. Oh, the tragedy of it all (and yes, I'm still scared of Ming).
Tumblr media
Pit Babe: When I made several posts about the Pit Babe novel but then I actually ended up loving the villains more than the main characters. I'm watching Pit Babe 2 for them and them only. Winner of my heart here I come!
Tumblr media
Aaand that's it, my first ever yearly (Thai) BL recap - which actually ended up way longer than planned (guess my memory isn't as bad as I thought. Then again, I had my gifs to fall back on).
2024 was an amazingly diverse year for Thai QL (along with the wonderful news of marriage equality in Thailand finally becoming a reality) and looking back I now realise (not that I was ever seriously worried) that gmmtv's monopoly is actually way more of a blessing than a curse because not only did it cause WeTV to heavily invest in their own productions, it also leaves more than enough room for innovation and creativity via smaller and indie companies (along with the truly big players finally paying more attention - see: Spare Me Your Mercy). Innovation which in turn enriches gmmtv's portfolio as well (judging by their line-up for 2025 the years to come). In short: the Thai BL ecosystem is truly thriving.
And with that, may 2025 be even queerer than 2024 with tons of marriage proposals and actual marriages (PorschArm here we go!), and a favourite little (or in gmmtv's case not so little lmao) BL niche for everyone.
I hope you had as much fun with BL in 2024 as I had. I really appreciate everyone's commentary posts and meta and fanart and gifsets and tag games and reaction posts, even if I didn't spend as much time on my dashboard this year as I wanted to. I'm so glad tumblr BL fandom exists. ILU guys. Only the bestest and kindest things for you in 2025!🌈✨

watching every single barbie movie 🎀 🩷
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
content creator ted nivison x actress reader
a youtuber dms you asking for help with a video, do you agree and meet this overly passionate film major, or opt out and possibly never meet the man of your dreams
ted had this video planned for months.
his goal was to watch every single barbie movie before the movie came out
and it was going well
the cast had already been announced and trailers had been released
and he had always loved your work
he thought you had a great filmography, and i mean, he also thought you were really hot
so he was really excited to see what you would bring to the screen
a week into his project he noticed he was getting a lot of attention on twitter (i'm not calling that shit X.)
he ignored it as usual, until his friend tucker told him he needed to go take a look, and tucker did not mess around about that stuff.
if he told you to check something, you better look.
he opened the clip of you and jack manifold, seemingly on his you laugh you lose series
the video started and you still maintained all three lives, while jack only had one left, you two were joking around and laughing
"objects ive shoved up my ass" was the next video and you and jack recited it together, almost making you laugh, ted was starting to regret listening to tucker, i mean this had nothing to do with him
until jack told chat to send in edits of his friends, and asked you to rate them, you agreed as that shit was funny, the first few rolled in, a couple "he's cute!" one "she's hot." but nothing that people cared about.
then came an edit of a man who you didnt know the name, but lord he was good looking, you barely even noticed how quiet, and red, you got
starstruck, you finally found words "jack who is that." jack was desperately trying to not laugh, as the stream was not near how long he wanted
"ted, my friend ted nivison" jack let out as he tried to calm his breathing.
you leaned close into your mic "chat, is this man accounted for." you stared intently at chat waiting for an answer, when you saw many no's you smiled
"this is a message to ted television- wait what was his name? nivison, doesnt even matter. if you see this, i want you. dm me, you beautiful, beautiful man." the stream quickly ended as jack couldnt keep it together.
ted was sat in bed, staring at his phone, for maybe twenty minutes, he rewatched the clip countless times
he was speechless
why was his celeb crush calling him beautiful?!?
he was too scared to dm you, like what if you didnt see it
or what if you just said it cause you were live?
so decided to grow a pair and ask jack for your number, it felt more formal that way.
the day after your stream with jack you recieved a text from an unknown number
and god you really hoped it was the man from the edit
Tumblr media
so thats what you did, and he answered your facetime within two rings. hot.
his face and dopey grin filled the screen, as well as your heart "hi ted." you smiled at him
"hi." the call was silent for a while, as you two kinda just took the other in
"i have a question." ted finally broke the scilence when you nodded and gave him the go away he began his tangent.
"well as we know you are in the upcoming barbie movie, and ive began a project to watch every single barbie movie before i go and see the movie, i was wondering if you would like to maybe, be in the video, you of course dont have to, i understand if thats weird but i rea-"
"ill be in your video ted, just tell me where you want me and ill be there." ted smiled anxiously, you could tell how much this ment to him.
you two continued talking for the coming weeks
and became very close, like it was so obvious you wanted eachother
flirting, joking, and borderline sexting became normal for the two of you
and even with very tough scheduling
and alot of sacrifices
you were going to miss one interview to drive to teds house and spend a whole day watching barbie movies with him
finding out ted only lived like 45 minutes from you was the peak of your year
on your drive to his house you thought about how fast this man made an impact on your chaos filled life
you spent most days on camera with a mic in your face, being asked questions by people who dont know you
today you were gonna watch nine movies with someone who you actually hoped would never stop asking you questions
when you arrived at teds apartment, you were filled with excitement, what should you even do when you saw him, hug him, kiss him?
you were scared you were gonna make a decision you would later regret, but the moment the door flung open you knew that wasnt possible
ted launched at you and swept you off your feet in a bone crushing hug, and you couldnt of been happier.
you stayed like that for a moment until he finally let you down and you could actually get a good look at him
his tall frame filled your view, and you felt yourself going feral
the day was spent watching movies, the occasional makeout sesh, and filming for his youtube channel
lets just say, thank jack manifold, for getting you on that grind ;)
guys im back, still a little sick, but we prevail 💪
cant stop that jack manifold grind 😉
im so sorry the ending sucks butt, im so tired and want to nap, so the 5 of yall that read this will have to live

Finish the scene
Tumblr media
Fan:"So Tyler, is the rumour true that you will be reprising your role in Teen Wolf movie?"
Fans cheering, Tyler smiling
Jeff impatiently waiting for Tyler's answer
Tumblr media
Tyler:"I guess the pack wouldn't be complete without Derek"
Fans loosing their mind over a another announced character in the new Teen Wolf movie
But someone is happier in a different way than all the fans combined. Someone's master plan is becoming real.
Tumblr media
First day of shooting
Jeff:"Tyler, could you come to the set, please. We have to start rolling."
Tyler:"I'm sorry, it's about shooting Superman & Lois again. They want me to cut the hours on shooting Teen Wolf and come to them"
Jeff visibly angry:"Tyler? Could I speak to you for a minute in your trailer?"
Both entering. Tyler sits down on a chair
Tyler:"Look I can tell you're angry and I know I shouldn't have started the fight there, but you gave me no choice."
Jeff:"Oh don't worry about it. I'll make sure we're on the same page."
Jeff murmuring an incantation.
Tyler:"What are you...."
Jeff now waking up inside of Tyler's body.
Jeff:"An upgrade. Good. I have been lusting over this body for so long." Jeff looks to the camera of his phone. "Oh that's what I'm talking about baby"
Tyler:"How are you? What just happened?"
Jeff:"Don't worry about it. You won't remember any of this in a few seconds. You will feel like you have always been Jeff Davis. I'll wait for you to pick up all the memories and start acting as me. Then we'll talk"
Tyler:"I am not Jeff. I am... Jeff Hoech.... Jeff Davis. I am Jeff Davis."
Jeff:"Of course you are. And Jeff, sorry about the tantrum before. Of course I will finish the story with you. Superman can wait. And as an apology, would you be ok if I let you oil me up here for the next scene? I wanna look good and I know how much you like my muscles in action"
Tumblr media
Jeff could see the visible boner his old body had while tracing his muscle lines, the ridges. Carefully placing the oil. Jeff wanted to play more, but the scene couldn't wait. Maybe he'll make his old body his own bitch later on. It's time to be the bad wolf now
And damn, did he now have the perfect body to play one. Maybe after this he should keep the body and continue as Superman. He could definitely get to do some interesting stuff
Tumblr media
Two weeks later
Assistent:"Hey Tyler. So this was your last scene in the movie. I think there is something you should know. We found some sort of an altar in Jeff's trailer with your photos and other personal stuff. I thought you should know before leaving."
Jeff:"Thank you for letting me know"
Jeff to himself:"Fuck, I should have made sure he had no memories of his previous life. His mind is fighting for control through these moments. I can't keep him away from me, I wouldn't have control and he would still find a way. Maybe keeping him close as my personal slave... sorry assistent. Would be easier to manage"
Tumblr media
Jeff:"So what do you think Jeff? Wanna stay close to me?"
Tyler:"Yes please. There is nothing I want more."

.⋆。゚ Art vs Artist 2024! ⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆

Click for better quality!
It's my first time doing art vs artist, but I thought it'd be a nice opportunity to see how it looks! My style has been so inconsistent this year (thanks multiple style crises), but I am proud of a few pieces. Mostly. I seem to use similar techniques and colors a lot, but I guess that's the point of an art style anyway. Everything up here is cropped a bit since I don't draw at a 1:1 ratio usually. If this is your first time seeing my work, I love The Legend of Zelda and Zelink!
Thanks for another fun year of art! ^^ Some stats below:

I've really been trying to figure out how I want to do backgrounds on my doodle pages. And how to draw TP Zelda properly. Still haven't figured either out, if you're wondering.

So much from EoW... I jumped on that hype so fast, it's the Zelda game I've only ever dreamed about!! ♡ Still kind of surprised nothing from Linktober is up here, though, considering it was all the better stuff. ^^" There are a few pieces I never finished this year, also... maybe 2025 will be their year!

summary: somehow your life becomes equivalent to a friday the 13th type of horror movie. there's no serial killer or any murders happening, but the day is full of so many problems that it feels like you'll never get out of this shitstorm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHAPTER TWO | ❝𝒊𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆❞
It had to have been because of something you’d done in a past life. Perhaps you were a murderer or committed other horrific crimes.
In your head, that was the only thing that could explain why today had been the shittiest and most hectic day you’d probably ever had. And even though you were only halfway through this godforsaken Friday, you knew that nothing would ever be able to top it.
You were hit with issue after issue, and when you solved one thing it seemed as if three more popped up. It felt like a fucked up game of whack-a-mole.
And just when you thought you could finally have somewhat of a breather, you were bombarded by a production intern bawling her eyes out. She had made a mistake earlier that day that she was still feeling pretty emotional about; she put the wrong time on the call sheet for Monday and printed and handed out copies with the typo. It wasn’t that big of a deal or the most detrimental mistake that could’ve been made— in fact, with one quick announcement and some reprints the problem had been fixed— but you could understand why she was upset about it.
“It’s okay, alright? Please stop crying, Hannah.”
“I’m sorry,” She said with a sniffle. “I just really wanna do a good job and I know I haven't been, and I really don’t wanna get fired.”
You were about to reassure her once again but you were interrupted by a PA tapping your shoulder to grab your attention.
“Hi, sorry to interrupt, but I have Steve’s lunch order that you asked me to pick up,” He said.
“No, no, you’re fine. Thank you so much,” You said, actually completely thankful for the interruption. You grabbed the outstretched bag from him and then looked at Hannah again. “You only made one mistake. I promise it’s okay, and you’re not getting fired.”
She nodded and you gave her one more reassuring smile before you rushed off in the direction of Steve’s trailer, quickly glancing through the bag to make sure that the order was right as you sped walked to the completely other side of the set.
“You’re late,” Was the first thing he said to you when he opened the door.
You briefly glanced down at your watch; 12:05pm. You were only five stupid minutes late, but of course he was annoyed at you. “The day has been really hectic and–”
He shook his head at you before you could finish. “I don’t really care.”
There was a lot you wanted to respond back with, but you held it back.
“Got it,” You said instead as you handed him his food and started walking away before he could close the door in your face.
It had only been two weeks since filming started and it was pretty clear that neither of you liked each other. He definitely didn’t like you, for reasons that you assumed were because he didn’t like anyone and he was somehow physically incapable of being nice. And in return, you decided to just not like him back because you couldn’t care enough to do anything to try and make him like you. Mainly because trying to do so felt like an impossible feat in itself, and also because you quickly came to the decision that he didn’t deserve your genuine niceness.
Barely a minute after you’d walked away from Steve’s trailer, you were summoned by the lighting department to help handle an issue they were having. It truly seemed as if you would never get a break.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Way too many hours, and a shit ton of more problems to fix later, you were finally home. And after the longest shower ever, you were sitting on the couch in your living room, a bowl of freshly popped popcorn on your coffee table in front of you next to a bottle of wine that was moments away from being opened.
Your plan was to watch the worst reality TV show you could find and laugh at it until you fell asleep, and you knew that because of how exhausted you were from the day it would probably happen within the hour. And you didn’t even feel the tiniest bit embarrassed that you’d be going to bed before ten o’clock on a Friday night.
You were only a few minutes into a show called Love on the Mountain and hadn’t even poured your first glass of wine before your phone started ringing.
A part of you truly wanted to ignore the call because you could only assume that it was work related, and you wanted to hope that whatever it was about could wait until tomorrow, or hopefully even Monday. But, of course, the part of you that could almost never turn your work brain off needed to look at who was calling.
You regretted it almost immediately when you saw Steve’s name lighting up your screen.
You wondered why he could possibly be calling you right then, and then as if the universe was simultaneously screaming and laughing at you, you looked around and your eyes immediately landed on the big yellow envelope that contained the script rewrites Steve needed to have sticking out of your tote bag that was sitting on your small dining room table that at most times doubled as a work desk.
Fuck.
You were supposed to give the script rewrites to him, or at least put them in his trailer before you left for the day, because they were for all of the scenes that were filming on Monday, but it had completely slipped your mind.
You answered the phone and then shut your eyes. “Sorry, I already know you’re calling about the script rewrites. It completely slipped my mind. When do you want me to give them to you?”
“I would’ve really liked them hours ago,” He said, the annoyance unsurprisingly very clear in his tone.
This was the only time you could actually understand him being annoyed at you, but hearing how pissed he sounded still managed to piss you off just the same.
You inwardly let out a long breath. “I can bring them now.”
He didn’t say anything in response to that, and instead hung up. Barely a minute later, your phone pinged with a text from him that was simply his address.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
When you walked into Steve’s apartment building, you were met with the sight of a man standing behind a front desk. It was always easy to tell that you were at an expensive apartment building in LA when the lobby felt eerily similar to a hotel. Your building didn’t even have a lobby; there was just a hallway that led to some insanely small elevators.
You gave a small wave to the man and then showed the yellow envelope. “Hi, I have this for Steve Harrington.”
The front desk man, whose name tag read James, nodded at you. “Yes, he told me to expect someone coming to bring something for him. You can go right up.”
“Can I just leave this here with you?” You asked because you did not want to have any sort of an interaction with Steve right then; what you really wanted was to get back home.
“Usually with most packages, yes. But for this, Mr. Harrington told me that he wanted you to bring it up.”
Of course, he did. And you knew the exact reason why he was doing this was so that he could say some sort of shitty comment to you about this mistake you made since he apparently hadn’t done enough of that on the phone before he hung up on you.
“Is there a bathroom I can use first before I head up?”
James gave you an apologetic look. “Sorry, the bathroom in the lobby is for residents only, and management is really strict about that rule.”
“Okay,” You responded with a small sigh. “What floor is Steve on and what’s his apartment number?”
“He’s at the Penthouse, so you’ll just press PH and his place is the only one up there.”
You nodded at that before heading to the elevators. On the entirety of the ride up to the top floor, you mentally prepared yourself for whatever Steve would say to you, and you also pushed your need to pee far away.
Your knuckles rapped against his door in three quick knocks and after making you wait for an unbearably long minute— which felt so much longer than just a minute and almost made you think that you’d somehow ended up at the wrong apartment— Steve opened it.
“Here are the script rewrites,” You said and you held out the envelope for him to take.
“Thank you,” Steve said, his voice unmistakingly condescending, as he grabbed the envelope from you. It was actually kind of fitting that the first time he ever said a “thank you” to you was in a sarcastic way. “Sorry for making you do your job.”
Apparently, the mental preparation you’d done on the elevator had been no help at all because his words in that moment irritated you more than anything else he had ever said to you.
You were at your breaking point for dealing with all of his shitty remarks pretty much every day for the past two weeks and giving him nothing back in response. You’d continuously swallowed down everything you had wanted to respond to his comments with, but right then, it was as if every other annoying thing you’d dealt with from the day was bubbling over, and for once you actually couldn’t hold back.
“Oh yeah, no problem,” You said, easily matching his sarcasm. “I actually did this all on purpose because today has been the absolute worst day ever and I wanted to make it even worse by talking to you right now. Honestly, the perfect way to end this shitty Friday.”
You almost felt bad for everything you’d said, maybe that outburst was a bit much, but then for the briefest of moments you could’ve sworn that one side of his mouth quirked upward in something that resembled the tiniest of smiles before he simply looked at you with the straightest face you’d ever seen. It was hard to feel bad for what you said when, at least for a millisecond, he seemed somewhat amused by it.
The two of you stared at each other for a few moments. You expected him to say something in response to your comeback, but he began closing the door instead. Of course, right then was when your need to pee decided to come back.
“Wait.” You said, placing a hand on the door before he fully closed it. “Can I use your bathroom?”
“No,” He said and then finished shutting the door.
“Okay, I’m sorry for what I just said,” You said, making your voice loud enough so he could hear you through the door. It was actually a bit easier to apologize without having to look at him. “I shouldn’t have said it.”
His response came barely a second later. “Still no.”
You were so close to letting go, but you knew that you wouldn’t be able to last on the twenty minute drive back to your place, which could potentially be pushed to thirty minutes depending on how terrible LA traffic decided to be right then. Therefore, you knew you had to keep trying. But you also knew that you’d rather pee your pants than beg Steve Harrington for anything, so you weren’t going to say one “please” to him.
“Come on. The guy in the lobby said that I can’t use the one down there because of some management rule.”
Steve didn’t say anything to that so you decided to continue.
“If I die of a bladder infection, you’ll get stuck with a random PA as an assistant for the rest of filming, and you’ll probably hate them more than you hate me. Also, if I die I promise I will haunt you so much.”
It would’ve made sense to assume that he walked away from the door by then, probably to his bedroom or somewhere else far away from where he could potentially hear anything you were saying. But, something told you he was at least still lingering by it.
“Steve?”
Finally, he decided to say something. “You’re not gonna leave, are you?”
You almost laughed at how annoyed he sounded. “No, so unless you wanna get blamed for me dying outside of your door, you should just let me use your bathroom.”
You heard something that sounded like a cross between a scoff and an actual laugh, and then moments later, the door opened and he let you inside.
You refused to admire anything about his apartment as you walked in. Not the phenomenal looking kitchen that had a huge white marble island in the center of it. Not the living room area that had a huge television hanging on the wall and an even bigger white couch that looked way too soft and inviting. And definitely not the floor-to-ceiling windows that provided a beautiful view of the city; you could even see the fucking Hollywood sign lit up in the distance.
There was nothing you admired about his apartment. In fact, you kind of hated the place.
And you were also a huge liar.
“The guest bathroom is down the hall,” Steve told you. “The door on the left.”
You nodded at that, avoiding eye contact with him because you didn’t want him to see how enamored you were with his apartment; you were sure that it was written all over your face.
You headed to the bathroom, which for just a guest bathroom seemed way too big, and it simply became another thing that you upsettingly liked about the place.
After using the bathroom, you looked in the mirror and were quickly reminded that you hadn’t cared to change out of your pajamas before leaving your apartment, so you still had on a pair of black sweatpants and a gray t-shirt from high school that had faded letters and random bleach spots. The only thing you added to your outfit was a zip up hoodie because it was actually a little chilly outside, and you now zipped it up because you felt embarrassed about your shirt, even though Steve had definitely already seen it.
You finished washing your hands and then left the bathroom. You saw Steve leaning against the kitchen island, already looking at the script you’d given him.
“Thank you for letting me use your bathroom,” You said as you started heading toward the door. “See you Monday.”
He only nodded at you and didn’t say anything else before you opened the door and left.
When you were in your car, your phone pinged with a text from him.
Steve: Let’s try not to have anymore fuck ups next week, okay?
You rolled your eyes at his message.
You: Sorry but I’m already planning to fuck up your coffee order on Monday so yeah…
Steve: Really great joke.
It was almost too easy to read the text in his usual sarcastic tone.
You: Not a joke.
You were close to leaving the conversation there; putting your phone down and ignoring whatever else he’d say to you as you drove home to finally have the night that you wanted to have. However, there was something about him now seeing you as bad at your job because of this one mistake you made that didn’t sit well with you.
You pressed the call button on his contact name before you could think better of it.
He answered on the third ring. “What?”
“I always do my job well, by the way,” You told him. “Today was a shitty day and it was actually a bit hard to juggle your shit with the other shit being thrown at me, so the script rewrites completely slipped my mind, and I’m sorry about that. But, it won’t happen again.”
You expected him to immediately hang up on you like he did with all of your other calls because none of them ever had an actual ending, but he didn’t hang up. Instead, he simply said, “Okay,” and then ended the call. You had a feeling that that was probably the closest you’d ever get to getting any sort of a “goodbye” while on the phone with him.

Update part two (this is the rest of it, there isn’t any more… at the moment O.o).
February 2024
It took all of two days for my BP to return to my ‘normal’ (the value I expected and where it’s been for a few years now).
It took over a week for me to feel mostly better, and two to approach feeling normal.
Chug away through the rest of the month, but I’m not energetic at all.
March 2024
Nothing super-exciting, although I slowly but surely feel more and more drained—almost exactly the way I felt when I went in because my blood sugar was high. Which was very confusing, because it was great.
Late March-April 2024
I felt awful again. I could barely get the energy up to do anything, and I was back to sleeping all the time. 14-16 hours per day on the weekend, falling asleep in my chair when I got home from work, waking up enough to crawl into bed and go right back to sleep for the night. Which also adds up to 14-16 hours per day.
Warning: diet talk
———
Remember how I started Ozempic? It does weird things to how I perceive hunger. Add that to how well I remember to eat and…
At some point I realized that in the last three days the only things I’d eaten each day were a couple of pieces of toast w/peanut butter for breakfast, nibbled on jerky for lunch, and maybe ate some more toast for dinner.
Thinking back further, I couldn’t figure out a recent time frame where I had done better than that. I had weighed myself in early February, and remembered wondering if dropping 25lbs. (11.3kg) in eight weeks was a good idea.
Shit.
(FYI: no*, it isn’t.)
So I got my exhausted ass out of the house and grabbed a case of Ensure, multivitamins, and other snacky crap I knew I’d eat. My goal was to get things back together enough to get the energy to start fixing my diet, nothing more. I knew aiming higher wouldn’t work until after I could do something besides work and nap.
(*Experts recommend an initial weight-loss goal of 5% to 10% of your starting weight within 6 months. For me, it should have taken nearly seven months to hit that 10%. Granted, these rates are for ‘unassisted’ dieting.)
———
It took all of three days for me to feel significantly better. Not great, but better. I still didn’t have much energy, but my sleeping patterns altered drastically. I was still napping after work, but I would wake up two hours later and accomplish something before going to bed. I didn’t accomplish much, but it was more than sleeping and more sleeping.
Things slowly got better, but again, getting to “ok” was faster than getting back to “normal.”
I know I dropped off the face of the earth, but it felt like every time I announced that things went wonky but I was feeling better now and put out a few chapters, things would blow up again. I wanted to make sure things were better this time.
Which was a poor choice; I should at least have posted something that said I was fucked up but working on it. I apologize for that lack of communication, although things did blow up again…
April 26, 2024
TORNADO.
A FUCKING TORNADO WENT RIGHT THROUGH OUR WORKSITE.
FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK!!!
I know I posted about it. It wasn’t very strong (HA!) by the time it came over the hill and destroyed the house at the top of it, merely (MERELY!!) tossing over a few rail cars and flipping a few semi-trailers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got lucky. This very same tornado absolutely wrecked Elkhorn (west of Omaha, NE).
I’ve stated I live and work in the Omaha area, so I’m not too worried about posting this, but here is an overlay of that tornado’s path on top of Apple Maps with my little blue dot while sitting at my desk.

May 2024
Most of May went fairly smoothly. I even got a little writing done!
Unfortunately, I had fallen so far behind on projects at work during all of the above that I was now trying to get caught up. Said project was over four months late at this point. I was working a bit late (not crazy-late, but about an extra hour most days) while still drained, so I didn’t have a whole lot of extra mental energy for writing.
I was, however, finally back to plotting and planning! Yay! Progress!
Until… (is anyone shocked at this point?)
The Friday before Memorial Day I felt a bit drained.
I woke up Saturday with a headache, feeling achy and sore. It didn’t get better, so I took my temperature around noon. 100.1ºF.
Wonderful.
I took a Covid test (that’s my default action to feeling crappy now), but it came back negative. Note that I wasn’t coughing, and I didn’t feel particularly short of breath or anything.
Nothing improved over Sunday, but it didn’t change much, either.
Same for Monday (Memorial Day). But this now made three days with a fever (also three consecutive negative Covid tests).
I agreed to @grumpyoldsnake’s and their friend’s demands to get my ass to a doctor the next day if I still had the fever, although I really wasn’t feeling too bad other than achy. Note: still no coughing (I promise this is important).
I woke up in the middle of the night when I heard something that sounded like a goddamn goose in my bedroom.
Have you ever woken yourself up by making some weird-ass noise that you then can’t duplicate? Even though you know you made it?
I was able to duplicate it. Without much issue. It fell under “well, that’s odd,” and I went back to sleep.
A bit later I woke up to a different weird noise, but I was sidetracked by what I heard and felt after I coughed a few times. My chest was making a sound like a freshly opened pop can. When my mouth was open, it was even worse. I could feel it bubbling away (it didn’t hurt).
Fuck.
Guess what?
Tumblr media
PNEMONIA!!
Fuck my life.
Prior to Friday, I hadn’t been sick. They tested me for the flu; that was negative.
Pneumonia is almost always a secondary infection, not primary. You have a cold, or Covid, or bronchitis, and it turns into pneumonia when bacteria settle into your irritated bronchi.
Me, on the other hand…
I never really coughed all that much. Reviewing the blood oxygen data from my Apple Watch, I could peg when the infection started really kicking in, although it looks like something started about a week prior to that (when I did a round-trip plane trip, spending five or six hours on a plane and in an airport two days in a row…).
Tumblr media
It took a week to get to a place where my breathing to start feeling easier, nearly two before the oxygen levels started crawling back up.
I did start coughing.
And coughing up… liquid. It was the weirdest sensation. I’d cough, and end up with a mouthful of what felt like slightly thick water. It didn’t really taste, and was nearly colorless.
I coughed that shit up for nearly three days.
I never coughed up the stuff that had any sort of color, although it did get thicker and more ‘traditional’ for stuff you cough up when you get sick. Which puts to lie that you can tell you have a chest infection by the color of the crud you cough up. :-/
It took another nearly two weeks after finishing the ten days of antibiotics to feel like my breathing was normal. The first day back to work was one hell of a reality check, though. I hadn’t been moving around much, and I knew I was short of breath, but I made it all of fifty feet from my car, then about ⅓ of the way up the stairs to my office before I had to stop. I couldn’t catch my breath and was dizzy.
That was the first time I thought, “that could have killed me.”
Not walking up the stairs, but what led to me standing on the stairs, gasping like a landed fish.
It was emphatically hammered home when I made a joking comment to a coworker that it thankfully wasn’t that bad.
Her response?
“Oh, no. Your x-ray was bad.”
>.<
I’ve been getting better. My nutrition went sideways again due to being utterly distracted, but I think that is fairly understandable. :-P
I refuse to say “I’m doing fine now!!”
Fate doesn’t need the temptation.
I hope to get back to writing. I hope even more that I can tackle the monster my inbox has become (both at AO3 and my personal email, which has been just as neglected).
Take care, everyone. Stay healthy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and Taylor meet bright and early as usual, hanging out before both of your 10 am classes had become a delightful ritual. Typically you would spend 2 hours in a private study room, that you would reserve at the beginning of each week.
“Hey bud!” Taylor calls as he comes into the private study room you had reserved in the library. He slips into the chair across from you at the small table. “Sorry, I’m a bit late.” He said with a soft apologetic smile. You could see the sleep in his eyes still, he must have missed his alarm again and came straight here after waking up.
You smile kindly back, “No- it’s ok, I only just got settled a couple minutes before you got in”. You notice a soft pink spread across Taylors' cheeks before he nods and looks away. He starts pulling out his laptop and notebooks so that the pair of you can start working quietly.
Most mornings were spent like this, a quiet individual study together. It was always a comfortable silence and rarely accompanied by discussions unless one of you had a test to study for that day. The only time the pair of you actively spoke about anything most days was around 30 minutes before you two would have to leave to class. You would pack away your things and just chat and banter about your recent favorite shows or games. A lot of times Taylor would ramble about a new horror story he heard or scary movie trailer he saw.
And so the pair of you quietly study together, occasionally casting soft looks to each other, Taylor getting clearly flustered every time you caught him looking over at you. The hour and a half of studying passes quickly and you sigh softly to break the silence and start to put your things away. Taylor perks up when he sees you packing and quickly follows suit.
“So, what’s been on your thoughts today? Found a new version of the Banshee story?” you asked playfully as a teasing smile lingers on your face.
“N-no..” he says softly, as he procrastinates replying while he puts his notebooks away. “I  uh, actually found a movie you might like?” He said awkwardly. “It's uh- a story about a deaf and mute woman who’s being attacked by a serial killer in her home?”
“Oh! Yeah, I heard about that one!! I think it looks so cool!” You say excitedly, slashers and thrillers were much more your style compared to the more paranormal-based horrors that Taylor enjoyed. Taylor smiles almost proudly.
“Well- I figured- I’d take you to see it when it comes out? I thought it’d be really cool to see it with someone really amazing like you…” He says nervously with pink cheeks. And as he continues it sounds almost like the words are tumbling out of his mouth before he is prepared to announce them. “B-because you know! I get really- scared- by thrillers and uh- you love them and- you make me-” he stops himself, fiddling with his fingers and taking a small calming breath. “You make me feel safe-..” he mumbles out with a shy smile.
You look him over with an excited grin “Don’t worry! I’ll protect you from any crazy killer who’d come after you!” You give a fake and playful determined and brave look, pounding your chest with your fist. And Taylor just looks at you with a deep blush on his face, the silence between you hangs almost heavy. But soon Taylor gives a soft amused chuckle, covering his mouth as he begins to cackle, covering his mouth with his hands. You join him quickly, dissolving into wheezing laughing fits while you both try not to be too loud.
“Ye-yeah! Of course, you would.” He says a sweet and overjoyed smile on his face. “So you’ll come with me to the movie?” He asks with a small tilt of his head.
“Yes of course!” You say gleefully “If you’re paying~” You tease with a grin.
“Ough!” he claps his hands over his heart “You only want me for my money!?” he joked back in a heartbroken voice. “And here I thought you just lo-liked me for me!” he said shyly as he corrected himself.
“Maybe it's both~” You tease again with a gentle laugh. Taylor moves to prop his head up on the table with his hand. You mimic him and give an exaggerated sigh, looking Taylor in the eye as you do. You stare at him for a few minutes, and noticing him getting a bit fidgety makes you smile bigger which makes him look away covering his mouth with his hand. Your gaze follows his, and the pair of you just watch the movement in the library through the window of the study room.  You both sit comfortably in the silence for a bit before you shift with a sigh to check the time.
“We should get going to class- we’re going to be late.” You say as you stand and pick up your bag. Taylor nods and follows suit. “You don’t have another test until next week right?” you ask him as the pair of you leave the room, locking the door behind you. You and Taylor continue your small talk as you walk and soon split ways to your separate classes. You continue the day as normal, but Taylor has trouble focusing in his classes as he runs through just how much he embarrassed himself in front of you.
12 Days of TDP #1
What TDP means to me
I just noticed I never did this one so now that S7 is out it's a good time! I'm gonna talk about TDP and the fandom here since they are so important to me. Ignore this if you don't care at all about my little venting lmao:
A bit of story, I found out about TDP back when it was announced with the cool first poster, I didn't get into the series because I was busy with studies but when the show launched the second season my friend told me "hey this series is super good and there's a great ship" I knew right away the ship was rayllum lmao. I had to wait four or five months for S3 and I spoiled myself about the finale because it stressed me haha. When TTM came out I spoiled myself on instagram and had the worst week ever, no therapy will ever make that book okay.
I checked weekly about the date announcement while I got hyperfixated in another series from 2020 to 2022 just when S4 was going to air! I didn't check social media much so I wasn't updated about new info or content like BMH until the announcement of the launching date, the trailer, new designs, etc. I really enjoyed S4 and was excited for more! I missed the characters so much and I was so excited about the next seasons, I found out that there was actual good content on tumblr some weeks after S4, YouTube was the only place I was looking for stuff and that wasn't doing very well for me, I was a bit scared of tumblr over past experiences in fandom but oh wow the TDP fandom was actually cool!?
I found out about all the antics from the hiatus and the ideas and headcanons were so interesting! I got interested in reading or writing fics for the first time of my life so I got entertained while waiting for new content. I stalked posts but I only posted some art and didn't start really posting until a bit before S5 was out and oh well I and couldn't stop.
I have to say that this has been the most enjoyable fandom and fandom time I have ever been in. I have made online friends and have had so much fun, on top of that my art has improved a lot drawing TDP, the support it gets fills me with joy.
TDP is such a good series and it makes me so happy (I say this as I actually get emo over every season), rayllum is my absolutely fav romance ever and just writing or drawing or just talking about them makes my day. I love these characters and it has been so cool seeing them grow, I can't wait to see more about them.
Now with the sad part, I'm... scared? of things changing. Maybe my hyperfixation going away, to think about not liking rayllum or tdp as much in the future or the concept of them not bringing me joy. I highly doubt it because I have loved this series for 5 years now, my hyperfixation peaked with S4 and it hasn't waned ever since, not even with the one year hiatus from S4 to S5 I'm also very excited to see what the people come up in the big hiatus between S7 and S8, it will be so fun, I wasn't in the hiatus the first time and I regret it.
But at the same time, it makes me sad people leaving. Scared of me standing here alone with other one or two people, maybe even the mutuals or people I'm following disappearing or moving on. I know this is something that happens to fandoms all the time, and even if a series ends you are the one choosing to keep it alive or not but it's still concerning. I know it sound silly to get so emotional over this but as someone with high probabilities of autism, I have a hard time with social relationships or overall just living. But TDP and the fandom content makes me happy, the feeling of not fitting in is not as strong here with you all and having all of that taken away makes me sad. I haven't found another series that has caught my interest as much and I doubt I will anytime soon since TDP and Rayllum have everything I love, fandoms are also not as cool out there. I'm happy that I'm confident I will be here for a long time but at the same time is... scary. Change is scary and I have been feeling uneasy and irritated for a while now, even before S7 aired.
I'm gonna be here for a while, I'm gonna be here when Arc 3 and I can't wait to share with all of you. I'm sorry if this got too personal but I needed to vent.
Let's fight for Arc 3 and keep keeping amazing content together!
Finishing with shocked Rayla for the soul!
PPG Headcanons I Plan On Incorporating In My Fics
Elmer is black with albinism, and he still has his glue powers. He's done quite well keeping it under wraps thanks to Professor Utonium and his pen-pal, Dexter.
Ms. Bellum is Princess Morbucks' maternal aunt. Penelope (Princess's mom, Sara's sister) and Sara were close as could be from a typical middle class family. That all changed when Penelope started dating Roy Morbucks. Ms. Bellum never liked the guy but her parents could be happier. The final nail in the coffin was when Penelope announced their engagement, and the two haven't spoken since her wedding day.
Prior to moving to Townsville, Mr. Morbucks had business in Townsville; some of it legal, but most of it wasn't. With the Powerpuff Girls being the beloved superheroes, it'd only be a matter of time until someone hired them to look into Mr. Morbucks' establishments and discovered his criminal underbelly. He decided to take Princess and enroll her in the very same kindergarten as the Powerpuff Girls to be her eyes and ears. He didn't expect her to become a supervillain out of spite, but he decided to fund her endeavors as a distraction.
Mitch has a tumultuous family background. His mom is dead, his dad's an alcoholic whose constantly in and out of jail with a different girl of the week living with him in the trailer, and his grandmother is hospitalized. Once Professor Utonium learned of this, he allowed Mitch to spend the night whenever he felt the need to. The constant exposure to the Powerpuffs allowed him to become friends with Blossom and Bubbles, closer with Buttercup, and a nicer person overall. He's still rather rebellious but he's no longer a bully. His interests are motorbikes (or any kind of car) and animals, surprisingly. He helps the volunteers to look after Twiggy during the summers on Monster Isle, who helps keep the monsters away from Townsville.
The Gangreen Gang (minus Ace, obviously) are a few of the aforementoined volunteers. Much to Buttercup's chagrin, Mitch and the reformed Gangreen Gang are on good terms.
Beebos are outlawed in Townsville, Farmsville, and Citiesville. All of them have been relocated to Monster Island. Mitch also helps keep an eye on the population and their feeding habits during his volunteer work over the summer.
I can't decide if I want one of the Rowdyruff Boys or the Gangreen Gang to illegally have a Beebo, but one of those former delinquents definitely has one and are trying their hardest to keep it a secret lmao.
I've spoken about him here but Barnaby Mayer (aka "the Mayor") had been embezzling money from the city of Townsville for years. He came from a rather poverty stricken background and originally wanted to become mayor to help change Townsville for people like him. His newfound greed got to the better of him, and a certain someone close to him who I don't want to spoil just yet only helped push him further. Deforestation only allowed the growth of Townsville's infrastructure, at the expense of Fuzzy's property. Bribes from rich corporations in Townsville allowed the Mayor to turn a blind eye to wherever they dumped their toxic waste, which affected the Gangreen Gang and mutated the Amoeba Boys as their part of the city became the city wasteland. Sedusa's own court case was even rigged in the research lab's favor as a deal; the Mayor offers them funding and in exchange, they keep quiet about what he asks of them (future questionably unethical Chemical X experiments to extract a weakness against the Powerpuff Girls, silence on the ozone layer of Townsville and the radiation/pollution from monster waste, the Antidote X handcuffs, testing other animals which lead to the creation of the talking dog, White Kitty, and Roach Coach, etc). Most of Townsville's infamous villains link back to him (I got the idea from this post in particular, I just expanded on it).
Speaking of Sedusa's court case, I spoke a great deal about her here. Her real name is Annalise.
Ava Silva’s trademarks are the mistakes she makes along the way.
She knows that, her ex knows that, her kids know that, even the cat lady across the street knows that. Everyone in her little hometown knew that.
Everyone and their mothers thought Ava Silva had hit rock-bottom when she ended up knocked up at sixteen years old by her stupid little high school boyfriend, but no, Ava kept digging. She just had to keep the baby, marry the guy and move out of the state to have two more kids with him before the age of twenty-four. JC was a good guy, he loved her, loved their girls, he was kind and he cared about them. Until he didn’t, breaking up with Ava and asking her to take full custody of the girls, without a single afterthought.
“We weren’t ready,” he had said. “I’m not ready to be a father.”
Good thing he had realized that now, their first baby was almost into her pre-teen at that point — and she had glared at him from the darkness of the hallway of their shitty little apartment as Ava sat across from him at the kitchen table, defeated.
So it’s expected for this new decision to turn out to be another mistake. Even Ava knows it.
Still, it looks good, on paper. A fresh new start. Just the four of them, Ava and her girls. Back to her hometown, the place she knows by heart and could navigate with her eyes closed. Hell, she even found a job and a whole new house — small and cramped but like Camila said it herself: “The good thing about growing up in social housing is that whatever you find here, it’s gonna look like Disneyland to them”. And yeah, she wasn’t wrong.
Ava turns right into the small driveway surrounded by yellow grass and sun-burnt rose bushes — she’s pretty sure they can save them, with determination and a lot of research on Google. The girls have their noses to the windows, except for Neves who is asleep in her child car seat. The eight hour drive has exhausted them all, the car is covered in sandwich crumbs, coffee mist — Ava’s lifesaver at that point — and Takis dust. She’s pretty sure she has a sunburn mark all around her sunglasses, but she doesn’t really know if she can get sunburned through the windshield — fingers crossed that she isn’t.
“There it is,” Ava announces as she turns off the ignition. “Our new home.”
Dear God her divorce is turning her into a middle-aged white suburban dad in a horror movie.
“It’s ugly,” Nina comments from the back seat, crossing her arms over her chest. “I don’t like it.”
“Yeah, well, we’re not choosing it for its pretty face, bug,” Ava says, holding onto her patience like a life buoy (Nina hates everyone and everything since they have announced their separation, even more when it became clear that Ava was separating her from her father). “We’re choosing it because it has a roof and four walls, and good water pressure.”
And because it’s basically the only thing affordable that isn’t in a trailer park.
“I like it,” Nova comments timidly from the passenger seat.
Ava smiles at her, sending her a wink. At least that one is making it easy.
“Come on, let’s go, it’s gonna be night soon.”
The truck with their things will be here tomorrow, Camila will come to help them and properly meet the girls (according to the texts she had been sending Ava for the last few weeks, she was overly excited and bouncing around at the idea of being so close to ‘her girls’).
Ava opens the creaking door, climbs out of the car, grimacing as the joints in her knees crack painfully. Yeah. She’s definitely a middle-aged dad. The wind carries the smell of the sea all the way here, washing away the nauseous aroma of Takis and coffee, Ava already feels like she can breathe a little better.
Neves’ little head is leaning on the headrest of her car seat, cheeks red, curly dark hair drawing a halo around her little face. She looks absolutely adorable. They all did, her girls, at that age. Well, they’re still cute today, but it’s like Nova’s presence is slowly fading away from her face, and Nina was always the more flashing beauty — all in bright smiles and charming light in her eyes, just like her parents.
Ava takes great care as she unbuckles her little harness, reaching up to brush against her cheek and the softness of her eyelashes. Her baby. Her babies, they’re all her babies.
Nina wiggles out of her seatbelt, bringing Ava back to the task at hand.
“You girls go ahead, I’ll be right there to open the door.”
“Okay,” Nova says, unbuckling herself and climbing out, Nina jumping behind her.
Ava brushes her lips against Neves’ forehead, stroking the pad of her thumb across her cheek.
“Wake up, baby, we’re here.”
Neves shifts in her seat, but doesn’t even open her eyes.
“Come on, Neves, wake up, cutie-pie, we’re home now.”
Neves shakes her head, eyes still close.
“No? You don’t want to see your room?” Ava asks, giggling a little. “Damn. That’s too bad. Guess I’ll watch Paw Patrol all alone with the girls huh. That’s sooo sad.”
That gets Neves to open one eye, squinting at her mother as if trying to call bullshit on her. Ava raises an eyebrow and Neves stretches her arms over her head, whining loudly as if to convey how tired she is. Life is hard when you’re a five year old sleeping in a car.
“I know, baby, I know,” Ava says. “Come on now, let’s go see the house.”
She reaches out and picks Neves up, hugging her to her chest with one arm under her legs as the girl ties them around her waist, burying her face in her neck. Ava pushes the door closed, makes her way around the car towards the front of the house while searching for her keys in the pockets of her shorts. Both Nova and Nina are waiting for her on the porch — yes, the porch, Ava is very proud of that one — stretching their arms, little t-shirts riding up to show their tummies. Once upon a time, Ava and JC used to tickle them every time they’d do that, starting a tickle fight that JC always won. It’s when Nova started expressing that she didn’t want that that things got a little tense, since her father didn’t understand and would get offended.
Ava shakes her head, wiggles her keys as she slides them into the lock, the key ring that Nina made for mother’s day in pre-K jiggling against her palm.
The door opens into a dark room that smells musty but that’s probably because all the windows and shutters haven’t been opened for weeks.
“Here we are,” Ava says, turning the lights on.
An endless room stretches in front of them, turning to the right around the staircase, which is right next to the door, after the narrow hallway leading to the smallest bathroom. Ava can already see the vision: the thrifted couch and chairs, the living room table they found on the sidewalk, the cushions the girls use for a pillow fight. It will all be their space, theirs and theirs alone.
“The kitchen is all the way to the right,” Ava explains as Nova and Nina start running ahead, slowly hyping themselves up for the discovery of the house. “There is a small bedroom behind the door after the stairs, I assume it’s gonna be mine if you take the three bedrooms upstairs.”
“Wait what?”
Both girls come back running, Nina with a confused frown on her face.
“Three bedrooms?”
“Yeah, and there is another bathroom with a bathtub for all three of you, but I gotta warn you: I’m taking a bath in there at least once every two weeks.”
“We all get a bedroom?” Nina asks again, like she didn’t hear a word of that.
“Yeah, I already told you— didn’t I tell you?” Ava frown.
“You did,” Nova whispers, cheeks turning red in embarrassment. “But we didn’t know…”
They didn’t know if she could pull it off. They didn’t know if she wasn’t going to come back empty handed with a guilty and sorry look on her face, telling them that she didn’t get the place and that they were living in the trailer park after all. Ava doesn’t blame them. They’ve both done that a lot.
“So we don’t have to share?” Nina asks.
Ava shakes her head, dropping a kiss into Neves’ hair.
“Nope. Although you’re going to have to decide which one of you gets which room.”
There is a beat of silence as they all look at her, and then both of the little girls are running up the stairs, yelling at each other as Neves asks to be put down and climbs after her sisters, disappearing into the dark.
“No running into the stairs!” Ava yells, but no one listens.
All three of the girls are all shouting in a concert of little voices, trying to decide which room is the biggest — Nina is going to win, because Nova doesn’t fight, she always takes the things her sisters don’t want (bottom bunk, ugliest towel, most-worn out shoes) but right now she’s trying to cheer Nina up, and because Neves, poor little Neves, was unfortunately born to be the youngest of her sisters, and therefore she loses every single argument.
Ava shakes her head in the middle of the front door, a smile tugging at her lips.
She’s a middle-aged white suburban dad from a horror movie, and her girls are okay.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Not really sure what to make about it. First of all, BioWare, please give the guys who made the reveal trailer last week a new task where they can’t do any more serious damage. That one was really lightyears away from what we have seen here. That fallout was absolutely justified.
Now, this one. This is clearly Dragon Age. In fact, it is so much Dragon Age that I have the feeling I had heard every single line that was said at least twice in a DA game before. Dialogue and character interaction felt somewhat underwhelming given the stakes in those scenes. Maybe, there were some cutscenes cut out (hoho) that would raise the tension. Maybe not and that’s just the quality of the writing.
The graphics definitely look much better than in the trailer. Still not what you would expect from an AAA game in 2024, but BioWare never was up to date in that field.
The gameplay looked as it was to be expected: The logical continuation on the path toward a more flashy-looking action-heavy RPG, that had already started with DA2. Last year, a critic had predicted that DA4′s gameplay would be what was fashion about 8 to 6 years ago, when AC Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, and God of War came out. Judging from the material shown here, that prognosis was accurate.
Watching this combat was somewhat boring. But this was early in the game where you have no abilities and the enemies are extremely generic. Let’s hope it does get better during the game (to be fair, it didn’t in DA:I either, save for the dragons).
I have some questions lore-wise, though. For example, do they have electricity in Tevinter? Or why do we see spotlights and hear loudspeaker announcements? There was mention of some factions (dragons-something), are we supposed to know them? Why are we being attacked by Venatori? They are supposed to be history.
Bottom line: Better than I feared after the trailer, less than I hoped for. After seeing the gameplay reveal for AC:Shadows yesterday, if I could only play one of these two games, it would AC:Shadows, not DA:Veil... sorry, DA:The Veilguard.
Hmm here's a thought that crossed my mind, what with the intimate Japanese (and possibly also elsewhere) announcement at TGS, do you think it's possible that the game's "full release" will feature the first 3 chapters and the P5 Collab subseries in its entirety? (especially after reading your most recent post, I did notice we didn't see Akashi's supposed Demogorgon form in the 2.2 trailer)
I would imagine they would want players who couldn't play the game proper in their own region a good amount of content to keep them occupied until presumably it's next update is out, mainly the first Chapter 4 part
(depending it'll be out before Chapter 4's estimated November-January's releases)
Let me start by saying that since I'm not super familiar with other gacha games, myself, I don't know how releasing in other regions usually works, so this is an area I'm not really qualified to speculate about, hah!
That said, based on how the Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau and Korean versions work (one week behind mainland China, because they released a week after mainland China did), and other discussions about this topic in the past here, I'm really expecting the Japanese (and English, whenever it arrives) version to start at Version 1.0, at least in terms of the characters, story, collab, and etc. content available.
They might add some quality of life stuff that was adjusted later earlier on, but it would be kind of ridiculous to drop all the content that's been added so far on the Japanese players all at once! Think about it: the third Palace is designed for teams at max or close to max level (currently 80), 23 Phantom Idols are currently available in the gacha and several are limited, the collab chapters are each only available for a few weeks, and not to mention the number of Confidants, side stories, and side quests in the game. Sure, some of those may be unlocked based on story progression, but that's still a ton of content, a lot of which is time-limited! And it would mean the Japanese players would miss out on a lot of the promotional rewards and weekly check-in rewards, too.
Maybe there's a third option I'm not aware of, but if the options are "release a new version every two weeks, like all current versions of the game do" or "drop everything all at once right away", I really, really think they're going to go version by version, haha. Sure, it would be a little unfortunate to be over half a year behind mainland China's releases, but that seems to make far more sense than the alternative.
Great American Family Announces 6 weeks of Saturday night movie premieres from the Great American Pure Flix library of films.
See six movies that exemplify themes of faith, family, loyalty, inspiration, good over evil, and love.
I've included the promo trailer for this special movie event below.
Tumblr media
Mr. Manhattan Premieres: August 3, 2024 Starring: Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega Storyline: In "Mr. Manhattan" Carlos PenaVega plays an ambitious attorney who struggles to balance his career and the demands of fatherhood after becoming caretaker to his niece and nephew. Along the way, he’s forced to reevaluate his priorities and lost faith. Movie Review: 🌟 Mr. Manhattan – I thoroughly enjoyed this family-friendly movie from Great American Pure Flix starring Carlos and Alexa PenaVega. There is a bit of a sad element to the story, however, as two young children lose their parents in a car accident and must move from their home and live with their Uncle Mason (Carlos PenaVega) in the city. Alexa PenaVega portrays Mason’s ex-fiancé, Dani; the two work together to care for the children after their loss. Mason is struggling with the decisions he has made with his life and is currently dating a woman, Tish, whom he is obviously not in love with. The children are gradually adapting to life with their Uncle, but there are still difficult moments of sadness and everyday troubles. However, there is also a mix of joy, hope, and peace- with many delightful, uplifting moments, too! Best of all, faith is also weaved into the movie subtly, but beautifully, as Dani encourages Mason to trust in God when he is discouraged with raising the children, finding the right housing, and his work. I think most viewers will enjoy this inspirational movie when it premieres on Great American Family. Carlos and Alexa’s performances in this dramatic storyline are excellent, along with the children who portray Carlos’ nephew and niece. This movie does a good job of showing grief and happy times. It’s a hopeful story of overcoming loss. ~Net **********************
Will Noah stop chasing selfish dreams, heal broken relationships and start down God's path for his future?**********************
Tumblr media
Nothing is Impossible Premieres: August 17, 2024 Starring: David A.R. White and Nadia Bjorlin Storyline: Scott Beck's life has not gone according to plan. Working as a janitor at the high school where he was once the star of the basketball team, he's dealing with an ailing father, a busted truck, and memories of Ryan, the girl he loved long ago. Opportunity soon arises when Ryan, now the owner of the Knoxville Silver Knights, decides to hold open tryouts. Scott tries to make the impossible happen by not only making the team, but getting back the woman he loves.**********************
Tumblr media
Finding Faith Premieres: August 24, 2024 Starring: Ashley Bratcher, Jonathan Stoddard, and John Schneider Storyline: Victoria, a Christian advice columnist writing under the name Faith, begins to lose her faith after a series of life events. On her journey back to God, she finds her way back to love as well. Movie Review: 🌟 Finding Faith – (streamed on Great American Pure Flix) This is an impactful story with a heavy plot that deals with marriage difficulties and infertility for Victoria (an anonymous Christian advice columnist) and her husband, Billy, who is a musician, often traveling away from home. Victoria uses the pseudonym Faith, when giving advice to others, but she’s struggling to deal with her own life issues and finding her faith. Actor John Schneider portrays Victoria’s father; he’s trying to cope after losing his wife of many years, while Victoria grapples with the pain of losing her mother and a painful secret from the past. It is revealed that one character had an affair many years ago, and how grace and forgiveness have healed this person’s heart. Throughout the film, we see the wounds and scars of these characters – and gradually we see their healing after surrendering and turning to God. Due to the subject content, this is a movie best-suited for a mature audience. ~Net **********************
Divine Influencer Premieres: August 31, 2024 Starring: Featuring: Lara Silva, Jason Burkey, Jesse Metcalfe, Micah Lynn Hanson, Rebecca Koon Storyline: When an entitled influencer loses everything, she must humbly trust God to understand what the meaning of true influence is. Desperate, she takes a job at a homeless shelter only so she has a place to lay her head and quickly realizes the joy and purpose that comes from serving others. Movie Review: 🌟 Divine Influencer – (streamed through Great American Pure Flix) At first, the main girl, Olivia ‘Liv’ Golden (portrayed by Actress, Lara Silva), is rather conceited and self-centered as a social media influencer, but when she loses her apartment and ends up working and living at the local homeless shelter – we begin to see the incredible influence this has on her life as she opens up to caring for others and discovers a renewed sense of faith. Overall, the entire cast is spectacular and the production quality is excellent. It was also nice to see Jesse Metcalfe have a role in this, as well, in the supporting cast. This inspirational, family-friendly movie is heartfelt, humorous, and uplifting! I would love to see this movie also air on Great American Family! (Update: I'm so delighted my previous wish is coming true!) ~Net **********************
Tumblr media
Engagement Plan Premieres: September 7, 2024 Starring: Jack Schumacher, Ted McGinley, Mia Pollini, Eva La Rue, Emily Topper, Eric Lutz, Judd Nelson and Faith Ford Storyline: In The Engagement Plan, Wade (Schumacher) has a plan for everything! Wade’s plan to propose to his girlfriend, Kayla (Pollini) may be the crowning achievement of plans. With a 3-carat diamond ring in tow and reservations booked at the Waldorf for his parents, Dash and Margot, (LaRue, Nelson) and Kayla’s parents, Ed and Mama Marilyn (McGinley, Ford), Wade marvels at the absolute perfection of his engagement plan. Until his plan hits a dead end on a dirt road, a country road. Kayla changes the plan to have Wade meet at her family’s farm to help her mom and dad, whose cow is expecting a calf any day. Dressed in business best, Wade – a fish out of water – has an unexpected – and definitely an unplanned encounter with a family who is not convinced he is right for Kayla. Then Wade meets her ex-boyfriend who tries to prove it.**********************
I hope you all will be inspired by these Great American Pure Flix films. I have seen three of these movies, thus far, and I can share that all three were deeply meaningful, uplifting, and inspirational- Mr. Manhattan, Finding Faith, and Divine Influencer.
Why Netflix brought Sense8 back for a special and refuse to do so as well for others
Disclaimer: I love Fan campaigns, and I take part in many of them, this is only an analysis of the situation
When taking part in fan campaigns to save a show from cancellation I often here: „we brought Sense8 back, we can do so as well“
I think what people do not understand is how well Organized the Sense8 fandom was back then. Sense8 was one of Netflix first major shows, and one of Netflix first major shows with a lot of LGBTQ representation. Streaming was new and Netflix was growing like crazy, they were a single player on the market. Netflix did everything to make their show’s successful
The irony of the whole story is: Netflix themselves helped to build the Sense8 fandom. The promo campaign before season 1 dropped was insane. Posters everywhere, character trailers for every single one of the cluster, they even had trailers for sense8 in my German cinemas here. And! They even released season 1 on DVD. A nice white box set together with other shows (I need that box set so bad). They had social media accounts for the show. They send the casts on every major pride parade. Once season 1 was released Netflix continued to hype the show up. They didn’t just went quiet about it, like they do today.
Then Netflix announced a Christmas/New Year’s Eve special: To further hype the show up and to shorten the waiting time for season 2. it was again a major event.
When Season 2 finally dropped and was shortly cancelled after, the fandom was amazingly organized and HUGE! The fans already knew each other from conventions and prides. There were tumblr accounts only dedicated to the show, or single characters of the show
When Netflix cancelled the show they said: „the viewing numbers do not justify such high production costs“. But in the end the simple truth was that Netflix wanted to produce cheaper shows that were easily marketable. The show still had a lot of viewers, nevertheless
This is why it was so easy for the fans to gain 300.000 signs in five days on the Save Sense8-petition. In the end it was over half a million… in around two weeks! In just a few days they had bought the domain for savesense8.com and released a petition calendar: one month, everyday, one campaign.
Fans phoned Netflix. Send them Flipflops, letters, produced a whole music video in under a week and got an actor of the show involved, digged out every single mailing address they could find and wrote there. Netflix’s social media accounts was hardly usable anymore because the comment section was full of #savesense8 and I mean in an amount you can not imagine.
We were so loud that even the HEAD of Netflix wrote us a letter. And they even gave us a special mail address we should write to why we love Sense8.
So in under one month we got the show back. Because I think not even Netflix was prepared for such an outrage. It was new and unique.
And 2) the financial situation back then was completely different. The situation on the market was different. Prime just started producing their own shows, every other streaming service didn’t existed yet.
This is also why Shadowhunters got two specials right away because they were also amazingly organized, maybe even better then sense8. Look what they pulled off to get a season 3. if Netflix didn’t gave them their specials right away they would have gotten their special!
But most shows being cancelled today are small shows with really passionate fan bases but sadly not many viewers. I am all here for: „Netflix stop cancelling smaller shows, a successful company should have big and small shows“ but Netflix isn’t. And hence it is so complicated for small shows to get conclusion. Because 10M tweets are impressive but if you have a few thousand fans who tweet everyday that’s an achievable goal.
Look what sense8 had to pull off and we got a „we hear your voice, but sadly we can not bring back the show“ letter, half way through our campaign…
I really hate the whole situation honestly, but I have the feeling today major shows do not get canceled anymore, only the smaller shows that can not make enough noise to really bother Netflix…. I really hope that will change one day and Netflix will change their strategy
Until then we can not do anymore then support every small queer show and hope for the best
