After over a month of work, a proper umei model has been completed !!! for the most part, at least

rewatching the radio show scene but through sunjae’s flashback at the end of ep 4…. it’s… oh boy.

how nervous must he have been before it got to his turn — leg shaking, heart beating in his ears, hands sweating, stomach churning

the entire time deciding whether he should go through with it or let it go and just dial another number

but he wanted to check on her — he wanted to hear her voice again, and this was his only excuse-

and so he calls but it rings for forever, and probably ends up assuming she just won’t pick up

except she does pick up— and so he jumps to the mic with a welcome, and though she doesn’t sound enthusiastic, he introduces himself, enunciating every single letter and syllable in his name, making sure she can clearly hear who he is — he doesn’t even mention eclipse, the band he’s in, the one he’s supposed to be marketing rn

it all goes out the window the second he heard her name

like he really used this precious marketing opportunity as an excuse to call her- because any other situation might’ve been too awkward for him? for her? maybe he knew she wouldn’t have wanted to talk to him??

BUT THEN

“hello! my name is.. ryu sunjae”

“so?” his facial expression already starts to shift — it drops a little? his eyes starting to losing that tiny bit of excitement he had when she first picked up

and then

“do you know who i am?” like he’s still hoping — he says it in a way that breaks my heart really cause i feel like he already knew the answer, but he still hoped

“no”

and you can basically hear. his heart. shatter. into a million pieces. eyes looking glassy. frozen to the spot for a moment……

and to add a bit of torment we get to hear him breathe out the saddest “sol-a” in his head right then like. 🥲

and to think for first timeline sunjae this is the last time he has any sort of contact with sol, until he meets her on the bridge after his final concert

he ended that call not knowing if she truly heard him, heard him begging her to stay alive, not knowing if his words had any effect on her….

That language SAGAU but the Reader can only communicate writing on paper.

Either the Reader is mute and they (characters) don't know/understand sign language or they somehow lost their voices on their transmigration to Teyvat and can only write now. But the characters are left trying to decipher what the Reader wrote.

Examples:

Kaeya: "I may say, that was very unexpected your grace. One such as yourself should be more aware of who you are."

Reader: "wat, y u sayin dat?"

Man I love this show, I gotta finish it (it’s Komi Can’t Communicate for those who want to see it) where she basically is too shy/introverted to speak (non-verbal neurospicy it seems like to me actually lol) and really wants to make friends and do normal things despite not speaking, her main way of communicating is writing (and her first guy friend who can just read her facial/body language really well lmao)!!

yknow I think the quieter vision users would definitely find you to be peaceful to be around and easy to understand just with writing (also deffo most likely to adore the soft moments together of just ur pen scribbling and the sounds of nature or a cafe or something around them),

Hi!! Love your artwork and your Charlastor AU with Dawn!!

I was wondering if you think Alastor would make any dawn-themed dad jokes and puns in your AU, and if he does, what would Dawn and Charlie think of them? I can’t really think of any off the top of my head right now, but I know ‘a brand new dawn’ is a phrase he could maybe use!

Now regarding the art advice!! This one got HELLA long so I'll hide it under a cut for everyone's comfort lmao

I know it sounds shallow and like worthless advice, but a huge huuuuge part of getting better at art is to just... make art! Practice makes perfect - it develops your motor skills, gives you somewhat of a muscle memory for certain basic shapes that are a necessity to have a good feel of for good foundation sketching.

Practice also develops your eye for compositing and for how color theory actually applies in practice, it basically helps you develop a more consistent grasp on art as a whole :D

There are some things I've learned over time that definitely helped speed things up though xD

here's some rough sketches I did just to demonstrate what my rougher drawings can look like - also a little diagram (on the right side of the image) of things I keep in mind for the average proportions of a human body!

I tend to sketch very loosely and try to capture the overall vibe and silhouette/rough shapes first before I even think about adding details - there's a certain flow, squish and stretch to everything that's just much easier for me to get a good feel for when I use quick, loose brush strokes and as few lines as possible to convey a concept.

Repeatedly sketching humanoid characters of various shapes, builds and sizes for years genuinely helped enormously in getting not only faster but also more consistent with it!

I'm fairly well practiced with hands and expressions especially at this point since I like to focus on those in my art often, so those come fairly easily to me as well now!

Something I learned along the way about keeping a certain liveliness to my artworks is that sometimes you have to forego anatomical correctness a bit if you want to fully express specific emotions - if you try too hard to keep everything perfectly proportional and realistic, it can make the outcome look stiffer than you might've aimed for - this is something I actually struggle with in my cleaner artworks :'D The ones I do proper lineart for, since a lot of the flow of the original sketch gets lost in the process haha

As for artists/artstyles that inspire me...

There's @/southpauz for example!

Her artstyle is unbelievably expressive and her eye for compositing and her use of shapes is SUBLIME - it inspired me to let loose more with my expressions, exaggerate features a bit more and to push the way I try to vary facial features :D

Then, back when I had that massive Rise of the TMNT phase, the artstyle of it has actually greatly influenced how I draw today!

It manages to be detailed and highly recognizable despite its deceivingly simple style - it exaggerates shapes and uses it to communicate personalities, emotions and action super effectively and taught me a lot about utilizing those more efficiently myself :D

And last but not least Ishida Sui - the mangaka behind Tokyo Ghoul (which used to be a highschool obsession of mine)

His striking use of colors, textures in abstract, yet symbolically heavy ways and his courage to be rough and expressive rather than looking polished, yet also having such a solid understanding of realism blew me the fuck away as a teen and still does now!!!

His art may have less of an influence on my style today than it used to back then, but I think in my more exagerrated, more horror-esque drawings you can kind of see it still :'D Either way I greatly admire him as both a writer and artist.

• Did Heather Chandler just threaten someone? Yes. Did she pause threatening that person to threaten then LATER just because one or all of her three disasters are hurt? Also yes.

• Heather Duke is normally calm and composed with a neutral facial expression. So if she gives you a VERY off character sunshine smile...oh sweetie you're dead. (The smile reserved for her three weirdos isn't sunshine so a sunshine smile is a threat)

• "He hit on who? Okay, where are my pom poms? Oh I know I don't have cheer practice, I'm just gonna shove it down someone's throat."

• That being said, Heather Mac gets jealous the easiest. Heather Chandler is the second most jealous and then Heather Duke.

• Oh Veronica? Nah, she just watches in amusement as someone attempt to flirt with her stop lights and them rejecting the person is the harshest way possible and laugh because she knows that they're hers. (Unless that person starts to get violent, she'll deck them in the face)

• Heather Chandler tried to run and hide from and ignore her feelings but that didn't work out now, did it?

• There was this one time Chandlamara were on a little date in a restaurant when the waiter decided to be unprofessional and hit on Heather M. They told him that they're married but he still didn't give a fuck and tried to flirt even more so Chandler got aggressive. Spoiler: They can never go back to that place ever again.

• Dukesaw has actually published a book and literally everyone loves it...however it's signed as "Written by A Gremlin and Green Eyed Nerd" so the only ones who know they're the authors are Chandlamara, Betty and Martha.

Hey can i ask yall something, am I the only one who does this, bc it has recently come to my attention that I exhibit freak behavior. It's for art reasons though.

I ramble about this a little bit u can ignore me

I hate that I started doing this bc i'll be somewhere & catch myself looking really spaced out touching my jaw or something. In my mind I'm trying to visualize the jawline i wanna draw but I bet i just look like a freak lmao 😭

I have the adhd, I can't afford to exit the drawing app & get distracted so i end up doing this. It's like my personal quick reference trick. Feeling the features of my face as I draw helps me visualize the shapes in a 3D way, does that make sense?

Anyway i felt like admitting this stupid habit of mine bc I just wonder if others do this?? But also I recommend it if you're more of a tactile learner. Sometimes clear reference images still don't make sense to me but this does. Particularly when thinking about how light/shadows hit a certain part of your face or like visualizing lines and shapes and small overlooked features. Like, how often do you really think about noses and ears and cheekbones... I have gone into mental rabbitholes thinking about variety in facial features compared to my own and how the feel & structure differ and then wonder how I'd apply it to drawing. Same goes for like visualizing expressions by feeling the pull and tension of muscle & such. It really helps me figure out how faces work and in a way makes simplifying it in drawings a little easier even. Of course I still look at references but it takes this to really GET it in an irl sense. Its usually not this deep though, I just find feeling something is faster for like remembering the basic build of it without having to look it up. hence the comic. Im aware my skills/ability to actually draw what I think are still too limited to be parading this as some kind of secret art hack but idk? I think you can learn a lot from your own face. Or maybe I have too much time on my hands and I've tricked myself into thinking im onto something lmao

Art tips for thinking of outfits/poses for fanart illustrations

I saw someone on reddit a while ago say they struggled to think up new poses/outfits for when they're drawing their favourite characters, and I gave them a whole bunch of tips to help. I thought maybe more people would like to hear my thoughts, so here you go! I hope this post helps!

My secret to thinking of new poses/outfits is one word: Pinterest (and google images, tho i'd recommend that one a bit less bcuz google's being finicky rn).

Just searching through certain aesthetics/moodboards for outfits ideas helps for when i genuinely just don't know what to make a character wear. And searching up swimsuit/underwear models, who may be modelling their clothes in a really dramatic and dynamic pose, helps too. (the models being specifically swimsuit/underwear models is a very important detail. it ensures that you can actually look at the human body without clothes blocking your view and understanding of the basic forms)

facial expressions are also important! it looks weird when the pose doesn't match up with the face, like with for example, a character pointing at something in the ace attorney 'objection!' style all dramatic and stuff, while their face is a completely blank smile. Of course, the best way to fix that would be to open their mouth and frown, while also scrunching up their eyebrows and nose. This is very important to remember when posing a character, because poses can only tell you so much, but the facial expression can completely change the mood and presentation of the character.

let's use my art as an example:

Now, imagine that, instead of the drawing above having just a normal smile, it was instead haru looking sad/disappointed while looking down at the floor. picture this sprite

the face, combined with the pose, could make it look like she was trying to say something important, but got cut off before she could speak (probably by her dad). It gives the drawing a completely different vibe! I could list many more examples but you get it.

Of course, poses, outifts, and faces are just one fraction of the process; you also have to take into consideration the character's personality. like take Haru for example. Haru is very kind-hearted, shy, reserved, and soft spoken. so for illustrations (original comics/animations follow different rules, this advice just applies to single standalone illustrations) you would want to pick a pose/outfit that best conveys those aspects of her personality. You wouldn't put Haru in like, a giant fursuit with a slouching pose, giving the camera the middle finger with a standoffish expression on her face (or maybe you would, idk how u roll ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). But you could put Haru in a sundress, with her hands clasped at her midsection, and giving the camera a shy smile with her middle finger up.

ALSO! you can break these rules! you don't always have to put Haru in only outfits that suit her, a good exception to this is all the DLC costumes. some of those are... hilariously absurd, and something that Haru would never normally wear, BUT they're funny, and aren't meant to be taken as a serious outfit that conveys the character's personality, they're just meant to be for fun, so it's totally okay to draw original outfits with that idea behind them.

The same applies to poses/expressions. there's many scenes in the mangas/anime where Haru makes poses/expressions that she would never normally make. that's fine too! those scenes out of context aren't meant to capture the true essence of the character--- theyre just meant to be one-off drawing that you'll see for only a second before moving on (that's why i said they were an exception, it's because thered be so much you'd restrict yourself off from if you followed the rules to a T).

S2 episode 23 (The Omega Glory)… I’ve been on the internet too long to read that fucking title.

Anyway:

- Immediate Sulu content is a good sign

- damn having that redshirt beam over with them is basically an execution

- THEY GOT TURNED TO SALT?!?

- I shouldn’t skip the opening more often. Deep Space Nine instilled bad habits

- The colours are so dulled this episode

- Kirk looking at all the empty shirts on the bridge (specifically blue) like that could be Spock or McCoy

- I get to have a little laugh at how they look just standing while being transported. Imagine getting transported mid sneeze, like a bad picture but you’re face is just frozen like that for a bit

- What is happening, why am I watching a beheading? Star Trek?

- “We’re never leaving this planet” wait for the end of this episode, when Kirk, helped by his boyfriends (McCoy and Spock) somehow defies the laws of nature

- “It seems impossible, a star captains most solemn oath is that he will give his life, even his entire crew, rather than violate the prime directive.” First of all, there’s no way Kirk hasn’t broken the prime directive. Second, Kirk would not fucking sacrifice his crew. Like ever. Third, Kirk says Prime Directive

- Smooth

- DANG! They killed the redshirt so suddenly and unnecessarily

- Kirk deliberately steps in front of Spock and McCoy to protect them from the potential phaser fire. Tracy then walks around for a clear shot of them anyway but if you watch the scene Kirk continues going in front of them a bit

- SULU IN CHARGE OF THE ENTERPRISE YEAH

- Even tied up, faced down, and presumed unconscious, Kirk can fight a bitch

- Kirk’s ass in the fight scene with Tracy is insanely highlighted

- Spock looks so worried for Jim when he gets put in with the Yangs

- The change in sound here is crazy

- McCoy trying to be sneaky. Foiled.

- “No point in repeating that it’s illogical, Spock. I’m quite aware of it.” Spock can’t help him with words here :((

- “Pity you can’t teach me that [nerve pinch].” “I have tried, Captain.” KISSALREADY

- McCoy is so focused on his task he doesn’t even consider eating. Relatable.

- “Keep talking, don’t let me doze off.” I do not think Spock’s voice is the best to keep one awake. It’s so soothing.

- Spock is so worried when Kirk stops speaking to him (he got knocked out), his panic levels are through the roof

- Kirk is ultra concussed rn

- McCoy isn’t even surprised to see them (Kirk and Spock), he knew they’d fuck around and find him

- Wow! This guy’s awful!

- Kirk hit his breaking point when Spock got injured

- Threatening Spock and McCoy is TOO FAR… also killing thousands

- The fucking click of the

- I lost the plot. Why is the American flag here?

- WHY DOES KIRK KNOW THE PLEDGE?!? Also funny that Shatner (he’s Canadian) had to learn that

Leo's role in the family as explored in Many Unhappy Returns

From the beginning we see Leo using humor to cope which is completely understandable since this is very much a Leo-centric episode.

"Thank for doing the dirty work for us. big up, shreddy"

He makes a joke in one of the most stressful moments of his life which, as i have stated before, is his coping mechanism. So, while the use of a joke and the facial expression make him seem as if he's confident he's absolutely terrified.

Leo's only way of knowing how his brothers are doing in this moment is through what they say since he needs all his eyesight focused on Shredder. The only thing he has so far heard from his brothers is "I wanna say I feel prepared but my chattering teeth won't let me" from Donnie leading him to believe that his team is nervous and so he feels as if he needs to boost their confidence and he does so with a joke(which makes him less stressed as well). However, this joke stops him from being able to attack with his brothers because he gets scolded by Splinter and then feels the need to defense what he says and his brothers attack while he is defending himself. All three of his brothers have the shit beat out of them from this so Leo likely blames himself and so he jumps in front of all of them(April, Splinter, and his brother) to try to protect them from further harm and this is the first time in the entire show that we see genuine fear on Leo's face. He is standing in a defensive position yet when Shredder jumps at him he doesn't attack, he lets Shredder attack him knowing full well it could kill him because of how guilty he felt about his brothers.

Then after the fight as they are walking back to the lair everyone else is stressing out and then when Leo hears Donnie stressing out we can see in his facial expression that he feels wrong about this. So he makes yet another joke, only to get scolded by both Raph and Splinter. He knows that none of his family are in a state where they can really mentally do anything rn so he takes it upon himself to be the one who tries to boost them up.

Then they've got another fight at Alberto's pizza(basically and off-brand Freddy Fazbear's and it's so funny to me) and Leo immediately makes a joke upon seeing the Shredder

"Gonna need to make a 2-0 t-shirt after this"

because of this joke Leo misses when the Shredder jumps at him, causing Splinter to have to jump in and save Leo. Then Shreddy beats up Raph and Donnie while April attempts to help all the kids get out. When When Shedder attacks a claw machine Leo says

"Oh, cheater, don't think we're letting you keep those."

To which Raph responds by scolding him telling him "This is serious stuff, Leo. Will you show up our right flank already?" And Leo responds with the first point of evidence I'm going to use with how he feels in relation to his spot on the team and how he feels about his siblings' trust.

"What? Mid-battle banter is my thing, just how yours is saying words like 'flank.' We got this trust me."

Leo is quite obviously nervous to the point where he is needing both jokes and reassurance from his team. This time, Leo actually gets hurt by the Shredder and so do Raph, Mikey, and Donnie. Leo feels as if his team doesn't trust him at this point and he still hasn't fought with Shredder enough times and doesn't know enough about him to formulate a real plan. Leo knows that he is nothing without his brothers. He thinks he can't do anything except tell a couple of one-liners and come up with plans that will just get credited to Raph. He thinks he needs his brothers more then they need him.

During this same scene at Albearto's, Splinter says "I wish I had spent more time with my TV." Which earns this reaction from Leo.

Leo took personal offense to that and feels as if Splinter doesn't really care about him. The relationship between Donnie and Splinter gets a few episode yet this episode is the only Splinter and Leo episode and it's honestly just Leo and the whole family slightly focused on Leo and Splinter.

Then Shredder disappears again and Leo throws out some more confidence boosts for the team and for himself only to be shut down by Raph immediately. Then Splinter starts giving them info about Big Mama and how she can help. As we can see from this frame, Leo is the only one who is actually listening and thinking about what Splinter said and paying attention to Splinter before just assuming Big Mama won't help them.

Leo already has a plan formulated and if this plan doesn't work he sure as hell can improvise a plan to fix this. In the minute after this when Leo gives them the sarcastic simple overview of his plan he once again says "trust me." He needs this plan to work or he'll feel as if he isn't deserving of a place on the team.

Also the fact that he just leaves Mikey, Raph, and Donnie alone to fight Shredder shows how he feels as if they can do everything with out him and don't need him.

From this facial expression, the viewers can tell that Leo, unlike anyone else would be, isn't nervous as they enter the battle nexus. He already has a plan forming and is ready to go. He then makes a confused expressions followed by confidence. Showing that at that point he had the basics of the plan figured out. He knows what Big Mama is gonna do, chooses his words wisely, and phrases everything in a way that entices Big Mama. He knows what he wants, how to get it, and exactly what he's doing.

Leo finally opens up(took him long enough) because he knows full well that no one trusts him and no matter how many times his plans work no one trusts him. No matter how many times he tells them to trust him or that he has got this none of them trust him. He knows what he's doing yet since he can't communicate his ideas without possibly ruining his plans he can't tell anyone anything. Trust is everything to him yet he doesn't get any. It's not until the plan actually works and they go back to Raph, Donnie, and Mikey that he finally gets the reassurance he needs.

Lol ok I'm a bit tipsy rn but Gunk is my blades in the dark character (blades in the dark is a ttrpg). He is an alchemist/mechanic (the archetype is called a 'leech' in the game-think artificer if you've ever played dnd).

At first his characterization and backstory was mostly improv on my part but eventually I started enjoying the game so much that I contracted brainworms and started actually planning out his stuff. And now I am obsessed. Largely the reason for the brainworms was also that the ppl I'm playing with-both the gm and the other characters-are incredible at the game and their characters are awesome so eventually I was like ok I gotta lock in if I want to be on these ppls level

Gunk is five feet tall, about 120 pounds soaking wet, 20 years old, and his default facial expression is that of a tarsier on meth. He recently immigrated to Doskvol (the city bitd takes place in) and has turned to a life of crime to support his siblings, of which he has six. Before he was able to bring his siblings over, he was homeless for a time. He also collects trash and has a massive hoard in the dump of items ranging from bottlecaps to roof tiles from his home village that he brought over with him.

He is intensely socially awkward and a little creepy on first impression but that's mostly just because he has some things wrong with his brain. He started out deeply timid and a little meek but he's developed quite a bit since then. He's still pretty anxious about being alive in general but he's more confident than he was. Despite his awkwardness he can be charming in his own way and even though it may not appear that way, he really likes to socialize. His character motivation is basically to earn enough money to put his siblings through college and to gain enough power and influence that he is able to feel safe.

Other misc info: Gunk hates cops due to a traumatic experience and has killed one before, he loves crows and cats, he likes to sew, he can see ghosts, he eats poison for fun, and he quit school in first grade to start working, which has made his handwriting and spelling so atrocious that only his siblings can read it.

The reason I said he'd have a panic attack in gravity falls is he's just kind of always having a panic attack in general and that's how he exists in the world. But I think especially so in gravity falls because he hates loud sudden noises, noisy/rude people, and big animals and gravity falls has like 9,000 cryptids, people, and demons that fit that exact description. He'd be miserable lol but he'd probably get along with dipper or soos

YES i know exactly which fic ur talking about. YES I AM DERANGED OVER IT. i always think about how dante doesn't have facial features or the ability to talk to most people outside of the sinners. how the most basic forms of human expression n communication is ripped away from them in the form of a head prosthetic. it's why it makes sense to me that dante is portrayed as so cartoony in canon BECAUSE they would be extremely expressive, especially with their hands - gestures upon gestures n flailing n pointing n all. in a verdante scenario i can picture them being into hand holding n just doing stuff bc that's all they can do.

because body language is the only thing they have access to. BECAUSE body language is the only thing they can offer as comfort to the people they care about.

the touch starvation goes both ways i think - vergilius n his self-isolating ass n dante's tendency to keep themselves covered up from neck to toe (maybe it's a way to feel secure n protected after losing their memory methinks). tbh i do see dante being more affectionate in public than verg (although it is still very little due to professionalism n out of respect for verg's privacy). in an established verdante scenario dante would probably like to stand close to verg n sometimes bump shoulders or maybe curl an arm around verg's waist or a hand on his lower back if they're feeling bold.

ANYWAYS i need to beam u the imagery of vergilius pressing a soft kiss onto their knuckles or pulse or palm bc it lives rent free in my head. it's chaste n quick n dry but it's one form of how he can express affection other than simple hand holding n i think dante would appreciate it. or whenever they hold hands verg would probably hook a finger or thumb beneath their gloves just for the simplicity of skinship. it could lead to steamy times but ultimately he's just content to feel dante's pulse n warmth against his own. maybe they do it at night when it's just the two of them (don't get me started on them cuddling in bed). crying rn

Ramble about my day again.

The morning was somewhat exhausting to be honest. At least I was exhausted anyway. I kept nearly falling asleep while taking my morning bath just because I kept closing my eyes, and by the time I finally got out it was 5:42. I did the usual posts I do this morning, then went out to the bus stop after watching my phone a little more. As I stood out there, I took some photos while jamming to music, said bye to my half sisters dad as he drove by, and my friends cat came up to me again. I ended up accidentally nearly tripping over though. I think I hurt him. He ran away from me while I frantically apologized and only seemed to calm when I pet him. But the bus was coming, so I couldn't make any further apologies. I'll try being more careful with him tomorrow.

Breakfast—I had chocolate milk since for whatever reason we couldn't drink anything else this morning, and my friends just talked while I watched stuff on my phone. My friends girlfriend seemed kinda angry today though, so he went to sit next to her to see what was up. Unsure of what it was but I'm guessing it must have been something personal. I also showed my friends pictures of Tom and they kept saying 'smash'./lh

Psychology was sort of just the same as ever. The people who didn't present yesterday presented at the start of class. And after that, apparently—we're going to be starting a new unit, so we did a little activity to do with it. Which was basically us receiving different facial expression photos, and a chart that ranged from 'pleasant' to 'unpleasant'. We just ended up taping the photos to different parts we thought they'd go in. It was kinda boring, but it at least gave me time to just daydream until it was my turn. And after that came advisory. I tried to do my Geometry work from yesterday, but I felt very unenergized, so I decided I'd save it for later. And I just played Roblox until it was time to go.

Spanish came along—we just ended up doing this test over the story we're doing, and after I finished my test, I was given an assignment to translate the Spanish text on it and draw pictures to do with the paragraph. I think I did pretty okay on it since it was easy. And since I finished earlier, I just talked to my friends on my phone til the bell rung.

Chemistry—we just ended up doing re-takes for the test from yesterday, and I did mine. I'm uncertain of how I did, but afterwards I just sort of resumed this other assignment I was doing. But I wasn't able to get to finish my review due to class ending, so I'll be saving it for tomorrow.

In Technology, we worked on Tweening again, and I finished earlier than the other students since my animation was like a few seconds long at best. So I made the poll on the Tom blog thing and then proceeded to just play Roblox after. We were sent out a little earlier before the bell, so while watching Spooky Month tiktoks, I headed to the cafeteria, which basically rung right as I was about to exit the building.

Lunch was about the same. My friends were giggling nonstop about something—and I sort of laughed along with them while playing Roblox again. I ate Cheetos and drank some Cola. I also drew a shitpost picture for one of my friends which I won't show since it has his face in it./lh

In English class—we ended up just drawing something for our Bellwork and wrote our reasons for why we drew it after. I ended up drawing Kevin and Lila cuz they're my favorite characters of all time rn lol. We read some more of our book today, and then after that we were introduced to this new site called GrooveLit which basically gives us a few minutes to write something based on a picture. I was given 9 minutes and got a picture of a jungle, so I wrote a story about an Explorer running into an eldritch entity in a jungle he's exploring while looking for a specific river. I got 3rd place.

We ended up rehearsing/reading the script again for Theater, and the guy who plays Host wasn't saying his lines for some reason so someone filled in for him—and was kinda sassy with his delivery tbh lmao. We read through it two times just cuz our teacher wanted to give some guidance on delivery and stage directions.

Then in Geometry, I finished my practice work from yesterday and did the second set of notes. My friend went to the bathroom for a pretty long time and said she was taking her phone incase of emergency—but these other people in class ended up saying she was probably taking so long because she just wanted to play on her phone. I'm unsure of how true that is. Most of the people in my school for some reason don't have the most positive opinion of her anyway. But I also know her well enough to know that there's a possibility of that being true.

And finally in World History, I took pictures of test corrections I need to make on the test I did yesterday. Then we finished taking our notes on Ancient China, but these boys kept disrupting class and acting all overly edgy. The temperature was also kinda broken in the class apparently, so a group of boys hoarded around the thing controlling the temperature to see if they could fix it. Somehow it ended up kinda working though. And once we finished notes, we didn't have time left, so we just waited til class was over.

A few days ago (gosh, not even a week yet) a friend from work passed away in a car accident, i actually passed by said car accident on my way home from work.

Two days ago was the wake and yesterday the burial, so you can imagen how sensible everybody is at work rn, he was pretty well liked and also known by all.

Coworker Roro (random name for this story) and I were in our shared office talking about the wake to which we went at different times, and the burial to which only I could go as I work the night shift this week and he the afternoon shift, so the times clashed. Roro and I basically only see each other at shift changes so we usually talk a bit about life and then about work.

Enter coworker Ery, he is new to the job, barely on his 2nd week and in training, he gets to the office says hi and sits down.

Roro and I continue talking a bit about the wake (not meant to be rude but I was still upset about the passing) Ery is getting ready when I say something about how our friend was given the firefighter salute and honor during the burial (a firefighter truck was part of the procession as he used to be part of them) and Ery makes a few comment like "such conversations, weird topics, morbid". Roro and I just went silent and I actually turned around and said "our friend died yesterday morning, today was his burial" and he tried to make another comment but pretty sure my facial expression made him shut up.

I may have been rude to tell him that in the way i did..but i dont feel bad, if anything im still pissed off at Ery for inserting himself into conversation the way he did, regardless of if he knew the person or not (he had like a total of 2 convos with my late friend) making comments like that? Not cool man.

Ery is an grown ass man, he should know better than to make comments of that nature even if he feels the convo he walked into was not to his liking!! We were talking before he even got into the office.

Hi! Your character designs are fascinating, do you mind talking a bit about how you approach them?

I wish I could answer this question properly, but the thing is- I know little to nothing about character design! I just tend to fool around and have fun until i come up with something I like!

But! Out of curiosity I decided to "document" how I approach creating characters, maybe it'll help!

(!just remember you are listening to the random person on the internet who is by no means an expert!)

1. Nothing more to add! I start with creating a "doll" of sorts. However, it does help a lot if you decide on a general theme and character traits before doing even that.

I went into this creation kind of blind, so I had to redo a lot. BUT it's cool too!!!! Some of my best characters got half of their personality DURING the design creation, so it's totally fine if this process overlaps.

2. That's the trick i tend to use a lot to keep a character from looking nothing-ish, or with too much going on.

The "focus" throughout the design stays as my compass, whatever else I do shouldn't clash with the main detail and shouldn't drain too much attention from it.

Again, character creation is fun and experimental, so, sometimes your focus detail can change! Or disappear! It's just a good starting point to overcome the blank canvas

3. I decided it will be a DnD warlock with some aristocratic background. The pose has changed, the proportions shuffled back and forth to create some warlock uncanniness. It's basically going back to step one but with some new context!

4. So next step- outfit. I would really like to learn how to design with clothes in mind immediately, to sort of bounce off of different forms. But as of rn for more serious designs I prefer to dress my base like a doll. It helps with anatomy consistency, but it definitely can feel less expressive.

The one advice I have (besides references, use those, please!!!) is to try and do clothes "sloppy" first. Sometimes the longer you spend with lines and details the less you are aware of the overall shape. This fit in particular I only got right after I roughly painted the silhouette of the dress

5. Panic! Chaos! Lots and lots of it. I'm keeping myself handcuffed from making everyone green, or Yellow+ some variation of black. BUT since it's a "documentary" I get to do it one more time. As a treat.

Colour theory is, well, hard! So while working with a new palette I often find myself googling the complementary colours. It's alright too!! Looking for colour inspiration is important, you never know what you can find out of your comfort zone (do as I preach not as I do)

Also don't forget to check your tone with black and white filter, it makes wonders.

And with that we're done! But not really :D

Characters tend to change and evolve the more you draw them. Shapes get adjusted, facial structure becomes more refined.

He may not be the best example, cause, well, he's a dnd character, lots of changes were due to the plot shenanigans, But still!!

A good way to test if you like the design or not- is to draw it a bunch of times. Some details may be added, some may be toned down
