Going through T-Bone's One Piece wiki article, and I genuinely think he probably allowed himself to be killed by the person who collected his bounty so that his bounty could feed dude's family. At the very least, he would not have fought back. That 100% fits his personality.

Even so, I am so bummed that one of the most morally sound and kind Marines is gone. There already aren't a lot of Marines who are dedicated to helping people as is, and he was genuinely one of the best of them, even if he was just a tertiary character we've only seen on three other occasions prior to his death.

I’m so glad Oda continues to show how system oppression and inequality leads to crime.    

The WG offering protection only to those countries who pay protection money, creates poverty leading to desperation like the man who killed T-Bone so his family could be fed.  The Emperors only exist because poorer countries cannot pay the tribute to the Celestial Dragon and thus they have no choice but to go under the umbrella of an Emperor for protection.

Today's one piece anime episode showed us sadly the death of beloved vice admiral T-bone. So sad!!! We all love the corky , loyal even if creepy looking vice admiral. Since his appearance in Enies Lobby he was cherished because of honesty and his caring nature for his comrads and recruits.
