H) Chosen, in a human-only setting, she's an elf child! She's the reincarnation of ale's greatest enemy from both of their past lives, and they're apparently destined to end each other. But for right now they're buds, and she's the adoptive daughter of Kiri.

I) Kiri, @recoveringrevenant's PC, a Spirit Shaman. The newest Pc of the BFFs, our very chaotic party's grounding force, she can see a lot of stuff going on that no one else can see, both literally and figuratively.

J) Beren, a strange teenager our party was charged with keeping safe, then promptly lost (we're working on it). The person who charged us with keeping him safe may or may not be an abloeth, allied with the red dragon previously mentioned.

K) Cloves, the horse we bought in session two or three, that was then awakened by a random druid. He was one of the oldest members of the BFFs until... recently...

L) Erina, @recoveringrevenant 's retired PC, lets us crash at her place most nights, and she was a founding member of the BFFs, so even though she's not adventuring with us anymore, she's still one of us.

M) Agamemnon, our ship's AI, he's an orb that likes to dress up as a wizard :>

N) Ajatus, a guy we threatened to get to help us, but somehow became fully one of the crew. also, we need him to drive the boat, so, a BFF it is.

O) Father Lagi, a priest whose church collapsed into a skink hole after we visited it. We offered him a job in recompense, though by some of the conversations we've had, he's pitty chill in general. Also he embezzled like all of the church's coffers, so that's funny

P) Dahlver-Nar, one of the many souls that take up residence inside of ale's body. Though he's a bit more permanent. He helps out and gives advice alongside some skick-ass powers.

Q) Naz, this is the character I forgot in the first render of this piece. she's functionally dead atm (permanently trapped inside an amber tree), but you know how it is. a character once played by @recoveringrevenant as well

R) Cousin Chet! the half-dragon half ???? freak. we love him though

S) Bailey Wick, a once stow-away, now rogue-for-hire she has the sticky fingers and high dex our party lacks. So whenever we need to infiltrate a place, we send her on those missions. Though we've recently found out she's like 19, which is horrifying lmao. She also is one of the most competent members of the BFFs only because she's the only character that consistently rolls above a 10 (like genuinely)

Introducing: Néndisfas

Consider this post a very brief introduction to my in-progress conlang, Néndisfas.

In summary, Néndisfsho is a fusional language with phonemic pitch-accent, personal agreement in verbs, and split-ergative based on animacy.

Phonotactics

Max syllable: CV(C)(C)(C) / CV(C)#

Indeed, this means that the maximum size of a consonant cluster could be 4-consonants long,

Morphology / Syntax: Grammar

Verbs

Verbs (and predicative adjectives) are simple, comparatively, to the syntactic nonsense going down with nouns.

Verbs take a prefix for perfective and passive, and a suffix for past or present and to agree with the subject in gender (animate, inanimate).

Due to sound changes, verbs fall into one of six categories, but classes II, III, and IV all have alternate forms.

Nouns

Néndisfsho nouns take on one of two genders: Common or Neuter. Common nouns were derived from old animate nouns, and neuter nouns were derived from old mass nouns. The nouns which didn't fit with either were grandfathered in.

Due to sound changes, nouns take on one of six endings depending on their class. Classes I, III, and V have alternate forms.

Nouns also inflect for one of 5 cases: Nominative, Genitive, Accusative, Allative, and Commitative. The Allative, though, is beginning to be used like an Ergative, marking an animate subject of an intransitive verb, and an animate object of a transitive verb.

Take, for instance, the following sentences:

Yés-e váw-i ve-kát-ur-o.

Yessei.C-NOM car.N-ACC PRV.drive.PST.ANIM

"Yessei had driven the car."

Since the car is not animate, Yessei is rendered in the nominative, and the car is rendered in the accusative. In the following sentence, however:

Yés-ivā búm-pe kéht-us

Yessei.C-ALL dark.N-NOM hate.PRES.INAN

"The dark hates Yessei."

Here, the nominative case is reanalyzed as an absolutive, and the allative as an ergative.

This structure could be rewritten with a passive, like

Yés-ivā (búp-ko) ver-kéht-o

Yessei.C-ALL (dark.N-GEN) PASS.hate.PRES.ANIM

"Yessei is hated (by the darkness)."

Here, the genitive marks the agent, and the allative (ergative) marks the subject. Yessei, in this context, is treated as the object of a transitive verb, rather than the subject of an intransitive verb.

The reason this is so messy right now is because the language is in the middle of evolving the ergativity.

Other Notes

Néndisfas has no "true" 2nd or 3rd person pronouns, because pronouns are a completely open class in Néndisfas. The general 1st person pronoun is "gémse, géra, gésho" (I, me, my).

This is probably a language I'll wind up using as a meme language throughout my writing. It originally started as a language used in the deserts of Southern Atepsi, but now it's Yessei's first language, so I decided it can be both. In the context of Meiste, though, this is a long-dead language.

Fluffy Alphabet Thing

I made a fluffy alphabet thing for anyone who wants to request headcanons for One Piece Live Action characters. I’ll do Sanji, Zoro, Mihawk, Shanks, and Buggy. And maybe other characters if you ask nicely and I feel creatively capable.

I’ll make a section for this in my Masterpost, and cross out each character claim as it is made. Any name without color that has been stricken through has already been requested.

I ask that headcanon requests be limited to five letters per character. Can be all five characters, or just one or two of your choosing, whatever.

If you want a oneshot/drabble for a letter, I ask that you limit it to three characters per request and only one letter for all three characters.

This is very much for my sake to keep the creative spark going. Unambiguous headcanons help fuel my drive to continue stories/requests with more specific themes. So, have at it.

T’owal T’uesday #2

Last year I posted about the T’owal alphabet. Since then, I’ve revised the alphabet twice … in fact, the second of those revisions happened since the last T’owal T’uesday post. So the header image I made last week is already out of date!

I don’t yet have a font of the latest version for obvious reasons, and I didn’t make a font of the previous version because I had a feeling I’d be making further changes. So at the moment I only have a font for the oldest version of the alphabet. To demonstrate the three versions of the script, here is a T’owal pangram! First, the romanization and translation:

I’m sure I could make a shorter pangram if I tried, but it might end up making even less sense. Anyway, here’s it is, first in the font, then handwritten in the three successive versions of the script:

Here’s a table of letters in for the first version:

In this version of the script there were fairly specific correspondences in shape between related letters. You can see how the consonant letters gradually change as you go down the columns, generally getting less curved and more angular as you go down the sonority hierarchy. However, that does tend to make a lot of the letters kind of similar-looking, and it makes writing some of them kind of tricky. (You can particularly see in the chart that I wrote t and t’ a little too similar—the curve in t should be more pronounced.)

From the first to the second version lot of the letters are basically the same but proportioned and/or positioned differently. There are now ascenders and descenders, and a few letters have changed their shapes. T and t’ are now much more distinct to avoid mix-ups, but a lot of the letters are still quite similar and honestly a bit awkward to write.

In the newest version there are a lot more changes. There are five fewer letters, with the equivalents of á é í ó ú now written with a dot diacritic instead of having their own form. Several letters are the same, and three letter shapes are the same but represent different sounds. There are quite a few completely different letters, though, as well as one or two smaller changes in letter shapes.

The third version loosens the letter correspondences in favor of a more readable script. However, the four ejective letters are still clearly related to the corresponding non-ejective letters. There’s also now more of a family resemblance among the five fricative letters, each having the same curved descender. That’s why the original letter n is now h and the former letter x is now g.

There’s also one feature of the new version that isn’t shown in the pangram. The letters y and p’ both include bits that stick out on the top left, which would get in the way if they followed other letters with ascenders. Since that doesn’t happen in this particular sentence it’s not an issue, but if they did their shapes would change slightlly. For y that would mean squishing the horizontal hook downward, and for p’ it would mean reversing the direction of the horizontal bar at the top, to look more like the previous version of that letter.

Let me know what you think! I’m almost certainly going to make a few more changes here and there, and who knows—maybe I’ll change it around completely again a year from now!
