The Joost Klein Incident. The Dutch contestant, Joost Klein, has been disqualified by EBU, hours before Eurovision 2024's Grand Final, after Swedish police investigated 'backstage incident' in which the artist had allegedly made 'unlawful threats' against a female production team member. This last-minute disqualification is unprecedented in Eurovision's 68 year long history. And has occurred in the midst of the controversy surrounding Israel's participation in Eurovision after qualifying into Grand Final under the shadow of the ongoing Israel-Hamas War. Despite EBU statements that this incident did not involve any other artists or delegations, rumours have been speculating that this may be connected to Israel delegates. Joost Klein's entry, Europapa is one of the favourites to win the 2024 Contest and their sudden disqualification has caused outrage among fans, the Dutch delegation and other participating nations.
UPDATE: The Dutch broadcaster, AVROTROS has released statement explaining the incident between Joost Klein and a female camera operator. An agreement had been made prior to his Semi-Final 2 appearance to not film Joost Klein after his performance. This was not respected. After asking repeatedly to not film him, Joost Klein made 'threatening movement' towards the female camera operator but did not touch her. This then led to EBU disqualifying him. AVROTROS finds the penalty very heavy and disproportionate. The investigation is still ongoing.

so funny when people say "well, obviously min is the only one rand can have a long-term relationship with post-canon since she doesn't have any other obligations" as if they cannot even conceive of the idea of rand being the househusband to his breadwinner wife/wives rather than the reverse. like there is literally nothing stopping him from just moving into the caemlyn palace and being elayne and aviendha's sugar baby. and as far as i can remember there was never any indication within the books that elayne would be expected to make a political marriage, that's just an assumption some readers make based on their own preconceptions of royal characters. (morgase's marriage to taringail was to smooth the throne's transition from mantear to trakand, but elayne already has 2 thrones and 2 heirs secure - and, on the latter subject, the books never hinted that her having kids while unmarried would in any way make them not be considered legitimate heirs, so there's really no reason at all why she would NEED to get married.)
"but rand wants to get away from it all, he can't have a relationship with a high-profile public figure who's obligated to stay in caemlyn" okay then they can keep their relationship discreet! and rand can travel by himself in his free time! and bring back nice presents to his family! and lest this be thought a Min Hate Post, min can move into the palace and be their sugar baby too! they can all be together, it's fine! there's really no reason why all 4 lifestyles can't ultimately be compatible long term! i mean, assuming min is able to get out of the seanchan's clutches.........which, somehow, people never seem to think is as big of an obstacle to Being Rand's Endgame as the fact that elayne and aviendha have jobs.

What do you think of Mrs. Hudson’s role in Sherlock tho? Like since Una Stubbs has (sadly) passed away, can her role be replaced by another character through mirror characters? Or would they need to have another person play that role?
Hi anon,
Of course it's devastating to lose Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, and it's much harder for those involved in the show, who knew her personally, than it is for us.
In the Sherlock universe, I think the most obvious way to deal with the loss of Mrs Hudson as a character would be to cast a new actress as Mrs Turner, and have her appear as the 221B landlady without explanation. This would mirror Doyle's occasional use of Mrs Turner instead of Mrs Hudson.
The 221B landlady is unnamed when she first appears in A Study in Scarlet (1887), and then named Mrs Hudson in the next novel, The Sign of Four (1890). Despite this, she is named Mrs Turner throughout the first short story, A Scandal in Bohemia (1891). Much later, Mrs Turner is lined out in an early draft of The Empty House (1903), and replaced by Mrs Hudson:
Interestingly, there are varied theories about how long Mrs Hudson remained at 221B. Many Sherlockians believe that the old woman named Martha in His Last Bow (1917), described by Sherlock Holmes as "the only servant I have left", is actually Mrs Hudson, even though her last name is not given, and bringing Mrs Hudson along for undercover work at the German spy Von Bork's house seems a bit presumptuous. In Sherlock, this story is largely incorporated into His Last Vow (hardly surprising, given the title), and several of Von Bork's traits are incorporated into Magnussen's character. In the ACD Sherlock Holmes universe, this would place Mrs Hudson at the latest point in the timeline, dated at 1914 (it will be the last story in Letters From Watson).
However, the mention of a "new cook" in the Case-Book story Thor Bridge (1922), which Sherlock also borrows from in His Last Vow, as well as in S4, has led some Sherlockians to speculate that Mrs Hudson is no longer at 221B by that point.
"There is little to share, but we may discuss it when you have consumed the two hard-boiled eggs with which our new cook has favoured us. Their condition may not be unconnected with the copy of the Family Herald which I observed yesterday upon the hall-table. Even so trivial a matter as cooking an egg demands an attention which is conscious of the passage of time, and incompatible with the love romance in that excellent periodical." (Holmes to Watson in Thor Bridge)
In Sherlock, the role of Jane, the inattentive maid in The Abominable Bride, appears to be borrowed partly from Watson's maid Mary Jane, who cuts his boots while scraping mud off them in A Scandal in Bohemia, and the new cook who can't boil an egg in Thor Bridge.
The thing is, in the ACD Sherlock Holmes universe, Mrs Hudson is the cook; this is not in dispute. So, the reference to a "new cook" suggests to some that Mrs Hudson may have passed away sometime before Thor Bridge, which would mean that Martha cannot be Mrs Hudson if you take the dates seriously.
None of this directly answers your question, but my point is, the Great Game presents some interesting considerations for addressing the appearance of a new landlady for 221B. They may choose not to address it at all, swapping in a Mrs Turner for Mrs Hudson without comment, as Doyle did, or they may choose to mention the death of the character directly, or they may choose something else. Their method is pretty flexible, and they have options because of the way that Doyle wrote and the way that his stories have been interpreted over time. There is some ambiguity around Mrs Hudson as a character in the later stories; I assume they will lean into that, though I could easily be wrong.

*shows up late with a tea cup* what's the ai-designed mascot nonsense about? :o
Anon it is STILL technically CNY so you're not late at all!
On Dec 6, the official mascot for 2024 CNY was released, along with a segment on CCTV talking about all its elements being taken from culturally significant symbols blah blah blah. Here's a link to the Global Times aka the Central Propaganda Mouthpiece, on how it is a masterpiece inspired by ancient chinese elements.
There are immediate questions. It looks like AI art, there's a claw # mismatch, it has that glowy soulless AI quality. Also, it looks almost exactly like the mascot from the China Construction Bank dragon year gold bank note.
see here -- spring fest mascot up top, bank note bottom
This bank note was ADVERTISED as "the very first mascot created by AI on this planet".
Spring Night (official weibo acct of THE SPRING FESTIVAL NIGHT) responded to the internet's accusations in the most halfassed way possible by releasing CLEARLY FAKE screenshots, and even a video scrolling all their identical looking psd files:
Look, we pencil sketched an outline and cloned it a hundred times in blue!
The bank has released no statement. Their promo videos are gone, but you can still find it on the B site scroll to 2:20 and you'll hear about how their Chenchen was designed by AI.
How did Spring Night deal with criticism after that? it seems the way they're dealing with this is "not at all" and wait for it go away ... we still saw it on spring night because it became part of the show. (If you keep watching for a few minutes, you'll see a 3D version of it behind the announcers' heads.)
For a picture of the CCB bank note, you can look for 2024中国建设银行龙年金钞, or even find it on ebay by searching "2024 CCB dragon gold banknote".
