Juan, Teresa and Kevin's impact on Chiron, visually struck me during the glimpses of his life in Atlanta,

comics as an art form make me insane. they’re so difficult to do well. there’s so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge that’s only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readers’ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they won’t follow it. comic time isn’t linear. if the order of events isn’t crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesn’t take it seriously

Ratatouille would have been a better and potentially much more interesting story if Remy had partnered with Collette instead of Linguini. Two underdogs with talent and passion forced to maintain a dangerous ruse. Fiercely independent Collette giving up temporary control of her body to a creature who, despite the insanity of a rat wanting to cook professionally, she can relate to on a personal level and who she does want to teach. The inner conflict of wondering if Remy’s growing talents are eclipsing her own, if the praise their food is earning belongs more to him than to her. Her guilt over feeling resentment and jealousy towards this little guy who wouldn’t have a hope of realizing his talents if not for her trust and protection. Both of them unraveling the mystery of that sweet but bumbling kitchen boy with the obvious crush on Collette being Gusteau’s secret son, and working together to thwart the new evil owner’s plans to stop Linguini from claiming his birthright. The message of the movie not being this weird, almost smug “some people are born with talent, some people aren’t, and that’s how being a ~great artist~ works”, but something more like, “if you have a dream, you deserve to pursue it, and be supported and encouraged in your pursuit of it, even if other people tell you that, because of some intrinsic aspect of yourself or the circumstances you were born in (like being a human woman in the restaurant industry, or being a literal rat), you have no place pursuing this dream. Also, raw talent can only get you so far, and skill and passion existing in the right balance is key.” I’ve been thinking about this for seventeen years. I’m breaking my silence

We're not appreciating the Weird Barbie enough. It's said in the movie that she helps everyone who need help while they always see her as someone who's not as good as them. She was friends with all dismissed Barbies and Kens, was there to offer support and safe shelter for everyone who needed it in Kendom, without her nothing in the movie would've been alright. When Stereotypical Barbie calls her "ugly and unwanted" she still helps her.
She was representing a woman in women's world who was pushed aside by other women because she didn't fit in but still had more wisdom and kindness than everyone who thought they're better than her.

IT WAS ERIC AFTER ALL!!!! I'm so glad we got to meet him (before Vil snaps him away with those Infinity Gauntlets) (can't wait to see what happens when we get the matching Infinity Tiara to go with them, there will be no survivors)
(sorry to be so slow/rough lately, just got a lot of stuff on the ol' brain at the moment! alas, if only I could spend all my time drawing incredibly stupid characters I mean I do but)

I’m genuinely so proud of Ivo Robotnik because when Gerald said “you’re no Maria” and Ivo realised Gerald was manipulating him and didn’t actually care for him, he didn’t relapse. He didn’t go back to believing no one cares about him.
Ivo spent all his life being told he was different and weird and unloveable and he believed it. He believed it to the point he built an unfeeling façade and cosmic ego to cover up his insecurity. The moment Gerald reveals he never cared, Ivo could have easily reverted. Gerald could have been the final nail in the coffin, the final proof that Ivo could never be loved or cared about, even by his own family. Family that he put blind trust in because he believed so strongly that if anyone would be able to love him, it would be his blood. But his trust and feelings were used against him. All the effort and vulnerability he put into a relationship with his grandfather was for nothing.
This could have been the last straw, but it wasn’t.
Ivo Robotnik immediately thinks of Stone. He doesn’t think, ‘If my grandfather can’t love me, no one can,’ he thinks, ‘My grandfather is wrong. There is someone who cares about me. And he’s about to die.’ He starts thinking about Stone and everything he’s ever said to him. He doesn’t even consider that Stone could also be manipulating him. No, he believes so strongly that Stone cares about him. He understands how much Stone loves him. Enough that he acknowledges Stone cares about him while live to the whole world. Enough that he would sacrifice himself to save the whole world if it meant Stone would live.
And he fights for it. He fights Gerald, he fights the odds of the Eclipse Cannon exploding too close to Earth, he fights how terrified he is. Stone means so much to him that he fights for him to live. And in his final moments, Ivo tells Stone how much he meant to him. He would rather be vulnerable to the whole world than not let Stone know he also cared about him. When he said, “Thanks for nothing,” he meant, “Thanks for everything.”
Ivo Robotnik was capable of all that and it’s beautiful to me.

hey. if you are a queer/trans person who is feeling hopeless and overwhelmed by the election results, i just want to tell you this:
we have existed as long as humanity itself has existed. through every monarchy, every presidency, every dark age and revolution, queer people have existed. we have survived and lived and thrived and loved. in the face of an unwelcoming society, we have always carved out our own niches where we can find community, strength, and peace.
we survived 2004. we survived 2016 and 2020. we will survive this, too. i promise you.
please stay safe, take care of each other, and if you ever feel like it's over - i suggest reading about our queer elders and ancestors who lived through time periods that were even more dangerous and hostile. i always find strength and solidarity in their stories.
but most importantly: hold onto one another, build each other up, and love one another. we will get through this.

One of the things I realized when I watched Fury Road directly after Furiosa:
Furiosa doesn't treat Max like she treated Jack. She treats Max like Jack treated her.
There are so many parallels - the way they meet, their conflict with each other that quickly turns to partnership, their journey to The Green Place (and how it fails)...
But where before it was Jack reaching out to her, now it's Furiosa who is asking Max his name, teaching him the kill sequence for the rig, trusting him to have her back in a fight, giving him everything he needs to leave (even when she wants him to stay).
Furiosa doesn't see Jack in Max, she sees herself. Everything from the muzzle to the nightmares to the fact that he barely speaks is a direct parallel to what she was like when she met Jack, and Furiosa knows it. And so as someone reached out to her, she reaches out to him, this feral, half-mad Wastelander. She reaches out and offers him hope, just like Jack did to her when he came back for her on the Fury Road.
And together, they find some kind of redemption
