yeah this is like half the song. deal with it. like. i think there can be something very healing about entering into a queer relationship with someone who makes you feel loved and safe after years of being told that was wrong. tysm for enjoying!! sooo i like to balance reality and fiction bc it’s fun yk? i base some of my characters and events off of my own personal experiences or experiences that someone i know had just to add to the story and stuff. BUT, expanding further on y/n’s future after jungkook, she ends up actually staying with Mingi for a really long time but the two split up later on due to differences but are really good friends, oc actually gets contacted by jungkook a total of two times, one RIGHT before he gets married and the other before he leaves for his enlistment! i tweaked some details bc hoseok is present in the fic butttt JK very much still has his enlistment! now, the conversations between oc and jk were very heartfelt, the first time JK actually apologized to oc for his actions and actually took the time to give her closure and like hear her out bc he felt like he didn’t give oc the chance to properly express her feelings bc he was adamant that she wouldn’t want him and kinda just decided for her. the second time they spoke, JK actually calls to ask for oc to come send him off rather than his wife, oc ofc shows up and the two speak briefly about life before oc tells JK to enjoy his life after his service is over and JK once again apologizes to oc before the two part ways and never actually come across each other, other than award shows etc but nothing ever happens and the two continue like nothing.

And those mimic, BRO I LOVE THEM. I mean i hate how cruel they were but they are an amazing specimen to a writer's eye KEKW. I just loves creatures that can fuck you up mentally or even used your deepest desires and insecurities to their advantage wjdbdbd.

These types of creatures are fascinating in itself, but what makes it a fine specimen for writers is cause they force your characters to realise what their inner problems are, and it can help them tackle them either on their own or someone else finally helps them with it. In othr words GOOD CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MATERIAL WOOOOO

(Also speaking of his voice I went back and replayed that chapter where he's in the theater dressed as a crab and you can kinda see that in his voice again😭 and also his usual coping mechanism happens when the mc suggests they wait a while longer for more ppl to show up and he just jokes that his butt hurts from sitting, but his laugh was really weak like he was completely trying to play it off😭 He also somewhat drops the usual raspiness in his voice when he starts to ramble right before the movie but it's not because he's sad but because he's genuinely excited to talk which makes me so 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)

BUT SAME THOUGH . HIS NOVEL MADE ME FROWN SO HARD.....he downplays a lot of his own emotions in favor of other people's feelings and he doesn't express his own anger....I'm so glad the ppl in HAMA House are there to support him😭 I hope one day he learns he can be more vulnerable with them because they all care for him and would never abandon him😭😭)

Okay but I am not over how Buck was so clearly framed as the "person who had to watch their love almost die right in front him but now has to take the full responsibility of taking care of their son and continue to work all while being a complete and emotional wreck".

Like when Buck had "the hardest job" - Chimney perfectly put it- and went to tell Christopher about Eddie and was trying to reign in his emotional turmoil, once he saw that Eddie had made it through surgery he just could not keep it in anymore. He completely broke down and CHRISTOPHER was the one to comfort BUCK before they both comfort each other. Which I always go absolutely feral about bc even though Buck wears his emotions on his sleeves we all know how he tends to put others first. We saw how he was trying to reign in his own grief so he could be there for Christopher. Because being there for Christopher was the most important thing in Buck's eyes, his own emotions be damned. An yet once that he saw that Eddie survived surgery and was going to be okay, he could not control it anymore.

And then we see him staying at the Diaz house and taking care of Christopher. However, Chris is the one who has to wake up Buck to school. That lil moment reminds me so much of a scene in Practical Magic where Sandra Bullock's character, Sally, is grieving the death of her husband and her daughter tries to wake her up to take her to school while Sally is numb just completely overtaken by her grief. We see Buck be the same way. And even though he does get up and takes care of Christopher and goes to work, we see how not okay he is. so much so that he wants get shot by the sniper as well

Which leads me the integral scene with Buck and Bobby. We all talk about the BLATANT parallels between Buddie and Bathena that this episode beautifully showed, but I gotta talk about it again. Right when Eddie had gotten shot, Bathena had the biggest fight of their marriage. But once they got their feelings out from the fight and was effected by the shooting, they had a honest conversation about what was bothering them. Which hugely consisted of Bobby talking about what it was like to witness what happened to Athena and how it effected him. Which brings me back to the scene with Bobby and Buck. When Bobby tells him that what happened to Eddie wasn't his fault, we get a DIRECT parallel with Buck saying "No but I was just the guy standing there who couldn't do anything about it" to which we get Bobby just staring at him in what seems to be a knowing look mixed shock and recognition. Because that was what he was literally what he was talking about with Athena. In the end of s3 with what happened to Athena and then in this season as well (especially this season) we see Bobby talk about and deal with witnessing HIS WIFE having a traumatic near death experience. Which was blatantly paralleled with Buck's trauma and grief with Eddie. (Two ppl having to witness the person they love most/their spouse almost die.)

But the parallels don't end there folks. No sir.

Not only do we get a hospital scene with both Bathena and Buddie but there are so many parallels in the Bathena hospital scene with Buddie. First we have the obvious of Athena sitting at Bobby side like Buck sat by Eddie's side as they both have emotional conversations. But whereas Buck mentions how he thought it'd been better he had been the one who had gotten shot instead of Eddie, Athena talks about saving Bobby.

Which I would like to point out the parallel of Buck helping Athena save Bobby and his knowing look when she said that it had to be her to save her husband. He understood that need and helped her be the one to save Bobby and not the actual firefighters (of course there's other reasons for Athena being the one like the guy having a gun but still).

But back to the hospital scenes parallels. In Bathena's hospital scene and the second one for Buddie (aka the Will™ scene), both relationships have a certain... shift if you will. Bathena's issues are fully solved and their relationship has grown even more for the better. And with Buddie the shift is also a growth in their relationship, just in a different way.

Because seeing how Eddie getting shot effected Buck and made him think so lowly of himself that he thought it'd be better if he was the one who got shot but also saw how Buck to continued to take care of Christopher despite of it, Eddie decides to finally tell Buck about the will. It's not only a shift of finally acknowledging the will after keeping it a secret for so long but a shift in how they're relationship is going to be for now. Sure, they already planned to always be in each other's lives but this seals it.

And what helps both relationships shift as all is what Athena and Eddie tell Bobby and Buck, respectively Athena tells Bobby that she couldn't let a little fire keep her from saving her partner. That right there is Athena reaffirming that Bobby is her partner, that she acknowledges the issues they had talked about previously about not acting like equal partners and reaffirms that they are fact partners. But then she also shows how much she loves Bobby. He's her partner in every way and she would (and did) walk through literal fire for him (which in LS we saw Judd use an example to show how much he would show Grace how much he loved her). Athena not only reminds Bobby how much she loves him, how she feels, but also tells him what he needed to hear that moment with what they were going through (especially with his lingering issues with what happened to Athena s3).

Now, with The Hospital Scene™ with Buddie, we get Eddie telling Buck about the will (which, given the fact that he kept it hidden for a year ass year indicates that it was a pretty big deal for Eddie to finally tell him) and Eddie does it because of what he also tells him. That Buck, Evan, in fact not expendable. That he knows Buck's perception of himself is that he's expendable, that Buck thought it'd be better if he was the one who got shot.

So how does that parallel the scene with Bathena? Well, Eddie shows Buck just how much he trusts him with Christopher (aka his heart and soul). They are partners already, but this just takes their partnership even further bc yeah, Eddie had already told Buck that 'there's no one else in this world I trust more with my son than you', but this both reaffirms that and takes it a step further. Because he made it legal that he'd rather Buck take care of his son more than his family. This reaffirms his trust in Buck, their partnership. Just like Athena reaffirmed hers and Bobby's partnership. Just like how she showed Bobby just how much she loved him by walking through literal fire for him, Eddie shows how much he loves and cares for Buck by entrusting Buck with the most precious thing in the world to him aka his son. And just like how Athena telling Bobby that is what he needed to hear, Eddie telling Buck about the will and showcasing the biggest insecurity that Buck was going through at the moment, that he's thinks that he's expendable but he's wrong.

Both Eddie and Athena saw how what happened to them effected their partners and they both have these things to help their partners with it (and themselves).

In conclusion, all of this shows the framing of Buck being the "grieving partner who had to deal with watching the love of their almost die". Because almost all of those Bathena parallels dealt with what Bobby had to deal with witnessing Athena almost die and how the aftereffects which directly paralleled with Buck was currently going through in that episode. And the of end episode (as well as Buck's season arc) getting a reaffirmation from his partner and consolation of how what happened to them effected him. Just how Athena did with Bobby.

Lang Qianqiu deserves more love goddammit: a post, unfortunately

This brought to you by the wonderful @veliseraptor & @/yuer on Twitter but also mostly out of spite and the fact that it’s preventing me from writing a very dumb poke-the-bear post abt the entire weird social media culture around The Minors

As always ✨SPOILERS!! SPOILERS EVERYWHERE✨

So first off: when I hit the scene where lqq confronts xl and screams “I will never be like you” I sat up in bed, did a little shimmy of delight, and hissed “fuck yes” at like 2 AM so. Now you have a preview of wtf this train wreck will be

1 ) lqq is a good character

We don’t get a ton of time with lqq because tgcf is 87 side characters running across stage with The Most Interesting Concept constantly one-upping each other before vanishing. But what we do get is, I think, enough to make a pretty compelling story: Lang Qianqiu is a kind and generous prince who is also the sole survivor of the bloody massacre of his entire family, committed by the people dearest to him (both in his belief that Gusohi Fangxin did it and in the reality of An Le’s involvement), who goes on to peacefully lead his fractious nation into a peaceful reign before he ascends as a powerful enough (aka beloved and worshipped enough) god to be ranked among the top heavenly generals. That’s like. Pretty fucking classic protagonist vibes right there.

And, as usual with mxtx’s characters, we get a lot more than this lovely little backstory. In his interactions in canon, lqq is capable of great grief and anger; he is willing to sacrifice himself if it means avenging his murdered family; and he simultaneously holds both great hatred and great respect for his old teacher. And, of course, he winds up raising and taking care of his enemy’s son which shows a remarkable depth of compassion and emotional messiness that I find terribly compelling. He struggles with a simplistic view of justice that is supported by lies told to “protect” him and that is uprooted by the truth and forces him to try to make sense of the world without the guardrails that others installed around him (looking at you mister fangxin sir).

Also I’m stealing my own tweets bc I’m Right but:

*pulls up single barstool to lqq is a good character table* I think it’s interesting & Says Things abt the continued relationship btwn lqq & xl that lqq *didn’t* recognize xl, implying that he left fangxin’s mask in place even when he went to kill him

Like here is the man who killed his family & best friend, who left him abandoned in bloodshed on his 17th bday—& here is also the man who saved his life, who taught him, who lqq looked up to & wanted to be like

Even when lqq *does* recognize xl, he still has so much respect for him paired with that hatred that it’s honestly rlly tragic? Like man. There’s so much grief in lqq’s repeated demands for a duel & insisting it’s fine if xl kills him as long as he doesn’t hold back

*pats lqq pompom* this bb is so sad. And so much more like his teacher than either of them seem to realize or necessarily want

Despite being a pretty minor character, lqq gets a lot of complexity and nuance! Look at this child trying to be grown up while desperately turning to his old master for guidance and “the truth”! Look at him! Be sad!!

2 ) lqq is an excellent parallel to xl

Xl didn’t want lqq to become like him (self-sacrificing, vengeful, alone) but lqq not only became alone, chasing vengeance, & willing to sacrifice himself for revenge—he also became kind, open-minded, & remorseful!! & he still clearly respects xl @ novel end 🙃🙃

We all know hc’s “they’re not very alike at all” and yeah sure baby go support your man but narratively, there’s a lot of importance given to cycles, parallels, and foils in mxtx’s writing and most explicitly (compared to mdzs, haven’t read svss) in tgcf. For example, *gestures at beefleaf, gestures at Xianle Trio vs Wuyogn Crew, gestures at Xie Lian & Jun Wu’s whole uh. Deal.* And while I’d argue xl and lqq are part of a triumvirate rather than a pair, we’re not including mister three-face in this conversation so just looking at xl and lqq:

Both adored and sheltered crown princes

Both taught by a guoshi who was seeking to prevent the repetition of their own tragedies and in their efforts, lied/omitted information and failed to protect their charge from tragedy

Both were betrayed* by their closest friends

Both are the last living members of their respective royal families

Both caught the interest of supernatural beings from a young age

Etc etc I’m getting v bored and distracted writing this so moving on

Most importantly to me, we have their betrayal by a very close and adored mentor and how they react. The confrontation I mention at the start of this shitshow is really imo one of the most important scenes in the novel because it a) illustrates the differences in xl and Jun Wu and b) sort of gives you a preview of how xl ultimately wins

So a) Jun Wu and Xie Lian both take a talented, marked-for ascension young prince under their wing. Jun Wu sees himself in the boy and obsesses over shaping him into Jun Wu’s own image in the belief that this will make him the perfect heir. Jun Wu pushes his chosen heir into situations where Xie Lian is repeatedly harmed in an effort to show that the common people are fickle and cruel and don’t deserve his compassion and care.

Meanwhile, Xie Lian is reluctantly roped into mentoring his prince due to his inability to stand aside when he feels he could do something to prevent hurt or injustice befalling another (simultaneously his great strength and great weakness! God I love him). Xie Lian tries to teach his student to believe in and care for the common people and not to sacrifice himself (see: flashback convo re:taking the force of the sword strike into his own body).

When Xie Lian refuses to bend in the shape Jun Wu demands, Jun Wu bashes his head into the wall. When Lang Qianqiu cries “I will never be like you!”, Xie Lian laughs and says “Good!”.

B) this of course feeds directly into foreshadowing! Like Lang Qianqiu’s bold words, xl ultimately refuses to become like his mentor and remains defiant even when it would stop him from being hurt. Xl beats lqq and says so what if I tricked you, so what if I lied, I still won. Naturally, xl beats Jun Wu not through standard swordplay but by using a trick he learned while forced to busk and wander the earth alone and unlucky for centuries.

…okay so I have fully forgotten what I was actually saying here! Anyway!

Like Xie Lian, Lang Qianqiu spends a time consumed with the need for vengeance, hunting his enemy and rejecting the heavens. And like Xie Lian, he winds up caring for his enemy’s “son” and trying to both comfort him and maintain what’s left of Qi Rong’s life force despite having previously been hellbent on destroying him—bc he sees the impact it has on another person. In the end, he even gives a gift to Xie Lian—his mentor, his role model, and the one who killed his father—that was once given to him as a symbol of unexpected kindness. Sound familiar?

But, importantly, and contradictory to what I have been yelling abt but whatever it’s 12:30 am, Lang Qianqiu is not a direct mirror of Xie Lian but a closing of a vital loop in the story. Lqq is very similar to xl (I will die on this hill!! Only I won’t bc I’m stronger than y’all and will keep swinging these pots and pans) but bc xl tries to do better and keep lqq from suffering the way xl has, lqq is able to have a gentler and more optimistic path forward. He’s proof that even a small act of kindness or even kindness to only one person still matters and has a ripple effect that can’t be seen when you’re in the middle of it—a thread started with xl giving the coral pearl to Lang Ying and closed with Lang Qianqiu returning the pearl to Xie Lian.

So I have no idea if any of this is coherent or compelling but I meant to be asleep two hours ago and the points are:

A) Lang Qianqiu is good actually

B) parallels!!!

C) look ive already started another wip about Lang Qianqiu and Xie Lian and I didn’t want this but no one else wrote it so now I have to so pls just accept this as a warning

*sort of air quotes around this for Xie Lian bc frankly Mu Qing was right & Xie Lian kicked feng xin out BUT on the other hand, it was experienced as a betrayal and we also again have all of Jun Wu’s shit so it evens out

So I was thinking, Gina is maybe not a big fan (from my pov bc i think she really crosses the line more than once) of Amy but I still believe she is the biggest Peraltiago supporter (even more than Charles). She has seen Jake through all his life, all his failed relationship since Jenny until Sophia, all his ups and downs, his messed up relationship with his dad and all his biggest fears. We get to see how she was looking at them when they get married or the look she gave Jake during the tatler final scene when Ames runs off the gym scaping the principal and he laughs and watch her run with his heart eyes and she is like "wtf ur wife's so fucking crazy and you can't stop smiling at her very stupid reaction for a grown woman sargeant fron the nypd"

Wondering if u would write something from Gina's pov realizing Amy is the one for her long time friend, that she would never hurt him and he will never feel lonely again.

In general, Gina does not abide by rules. Her life is rule-free and awesome. The few rules she follows are ones that she has set herself, making them perfect rules that aren't difficult to obey.

One such rule?

She is not friends with anyone who's dated Jake Peralta.

If she was friends with them before, that friendship is ended, rescinded, erased from this dimension of space the moment they decide it is a good idea to boink her little quasi-brother.

It might sound harsh to some (a lot of things Gina says and does sound harsh to most, to be fair), but it is a rule that had to be established in their third year of high school, when Gemma Arbridges managed to steal (and subsequently destroy) Jake's virginity, his heart and naive hopes, and Gina's favourite nailpolish all in one week. She's still not quite sure which one of those three weighs the hardest for her, but they were all enough to ensure that her then best female friend turned persona non grata, and ended her own high school career at the not-cool table on the other end of the cafeteria. Gina made sure of that.

Because after that Gemma disaster, after Jake had skipped school for a week and hidden in her bedroom so his mom wouldn’t find out, after she’d skipped school for two days too to drag him out of her bed again, get him showered and dressed and ready for class only to watch him run into Gemma right away, and listen to her verbally butcher him into bite sized bits, Gina had made a promise to herself. A promise to protect, and more than that, to avenge her boy who was too soft and too kind, and who she knew the world was going to chew up and spit out again and again, the way it had done since he was seven and waiting on the curbside for a car that’d never come back into their driveway again.  

Because she had to be there when the coin flipped with every single girl after Gemma. She had to be there when Jake refused to get out of bed for a whole week, when his diet crashed from bad to worse, when she had to pour alcohol down the drain that seemed strong enough to flush it through entirely. She had to be there when he pressed his crying face into her shoulder, or her thigh when he refused to get up even as she sat on the bed, or worse, she had to be there when his face turned to stone, when there was absolutely no emotion left on the human smiley they all thought they knew.

Gina Linetti was not friends with any woman that dated Jake Peralta, because any woman that dated Jake Peralta ended up breaking him, even just a little.

And you don't break Gina Linetti's favourite things without paying for it.

It made Jake smile again, at least a little, when she'd share the stories about how 'influencer' Sarah's social media presence was now a complete wreck that no one in their right mind would follow, or about how 'aspiring artist' Laura would probably never sell another sculpture in New York again after that last fiasco of a show. How Fiona actually decided to move out of town just to escape whatever Gina was planning for her. 

(She’d been planning something much more grandiose and demonic for Sofia, had planned to team up with Rosa for it, but Jake held her back. Asked her not to, please, because he still had to work with her from time to time. Because it was bad enough as it was. Because he’d really loved her, maybe, a little bit, or maybe had at least hoped that’s what it felt like. He didn’t have much to compare it to. Maybe because he was growing up, ever so slightly. A thought that made Gina shudder, because that’d mean she would have to grow up soon, too.)

He held her back with Amy, long before anyone else, though.

That had always been a weird thing, anyway. Were they friends? More? Less? Yes? No? She couldn’t read her, not as well as she could read Jake, couldn’t figure out whether that drab little churchmouse was playing a cunning game or actually was so oblivious as to not see the glaring heart eyes her boy was shooting her way ever since she’d sat down across his desk on her first day.

But then she went and dated Teddy, and Jake went and became a mafioso, and he came back different in a way Gina hated, for a while. He came back darker and more quiet and with scars she wasn’t allowed to ask about and stories he didn’t want to share and she kinda didn’t want to hear. 

But his heart eyes were still the same.

Well, maybe not completely.

There was pain behind them now, the kind she usually could medicate with soda and take away and trash movies, or at least a vicious take down of whoever had caused that pain, but none of that helped anymore.

Because Amy Santiago, who was not her friend, and who had not even dated Jake, had not just broken him. She’d shattered him, and she didn’t even know. She didn’t even realise.

Gina wanted to make her realise, and then some. But she couldn’t. Because Jake asked her not to.

“It’s not a break-up, Goose. There’s no need for the Linetti wrath.”

“It’s worse.”

“I’m fine.”

“You’re not.”

“...I will be.”

“She shouldn’t be fine if you don’t get to be.”

He’d said please, after that, just please, and she knew what he meant. She could see that little bit of hope in his eyes that never seemed to go out, that made him sit and wait at Sal’s for hours on end, that made him jerk up every time the doorbell rang during holidays, that made him scan the crowds at his high school graduation and his academy graduation and his detective party. 

She couldn’t say no to that little glimmer of hope. It was all he had left.

“Santiago and I might’ve been in there… snorking.” He says, and while everyone cheers and teases them, Gina is quiet.

So this is the point where the friendship ends, she thinks as he watches Amy blush next to him. Let’s see how long until I need to get ready.

They weren’t really great friends to begin with. She’d kept her distance from the beginning, from the moment she’d realised that Jake was lost on that little girl in her grey pantsuits and sensible ponytails, from the day she knew that someday, she’d have to destroy her like she’d destroyed the many girls before her. It wouldn’t be a great loss, she thinks.

Then he switches Nana’s place for Gina’s cramped little hellhole because he needs to ‘get his debt in order’. Then he pays an insane amount of money for a mattress not long after. Then he changes, and grows, but he’s still laughing, he’s still Jake, and Amy smiles at him when he talks about his insane plans, and she giggles during his antics, she gets him to eat regularly and drink more water, and then takes him to Sal’s for celebrations anyway. She sets up doctor’s appointments and takes care of him when he’s sick, and she remembers the birthdays and anniversaries of everyone in his family and has a card ready for him to sign a week before each. She turns her over-thinking and constant need for order into an asset of their relationship, and still picks up the strangest habits from that chaos being she’s decided to make her boyfriend. Habits Gina knows from decades with him. Habits Gina would never admit she likes, until she catches herself grinning when Amy unpacks not one, but two breakfast bagels on Tuesday mornings instead of her usual healthy, homemade granola mix.

Amy meets his mom, and loves her, obviously, because Karen Peralta is a great mom no matter what anyone says. She meets his dad, and hates him so much that she rants about it at Shaw’s before even her first drink is finished. She says all the things Gina has been thinking for years, pairs it up with swear words that even make Rosa’s head turn, and gains a level of respect Gina wasn’t sure she’d ever be possible of attaining from her.

But it’s all weird, Gina thinks. It’s wrong. That’s not the way relationships go, Jake-wise. That’s not how she knows how to deal with them.

She’s still waiting for the other shoe to drop. For the sick week, for dragging him out of bed, for eating take out and watching trash tv and planning how to ruin a detective’s career without ruining her own precinct along with it.

She has to clean out a fridge full of take away, instead, has to cancel the cable bill for his tv, and wonders how she’s going to live with her best friend miles away and unreachable, with his name gone and his identity erased. Wonders how Amy is going to live, as she sits catatonic on his couch until Rosa gets her up and moving out of the apartment to lock behind them, as if on auto-pilot.

They’re not friends anymore. They never really were. She shouldn’t care. 

Except he asked her to.

“Please”, he’d said, in that tone she hates because it hurts her ever since she’d heard it first when he was 8 and holding her back from keying Roger’s car for arriving in their driveway a week after his birthday, “please watch her. I’ll be back. I know she doesn’t believe it, but I’ll come back, and I need her safe until then. Please.”

She’d nodded and said yes of course and then hugged him goodbye and watched him leave, and she half doesn’t believe he’s coming back either, but she’s made a promise again. Even if it contradicts the first one she’s made to him, the one he doesn’t really know about.

So she needs to care. She needs to ask Amy if she wants to do a movie marathon next weekend with Rosa, and she needs to not hear her quiet No thanks and tell her a time and a place to be. She needs to pat her shoulder when she’s six drinks in after movie 3 and crying into Rosa’s arms about how Billy Elliot always made Jake cry. She needs to set a glass of water and an aspirin on her desk the next morning. She needs to make sure she orders something when they all do lunch break together, and has the leftovers boxed up for her to take home, and then ‘randomly’ drop by a few days later to check if they’re still in the fridge.

She needs to ask if everything’s okay when Amy sits down on a normal Tuesday morning at her desk, two minutes late, with her face turned to stone the way she remembers from Jake and never wants to see again.

“The Rosenthal Deli doesn’t do breakfast bagels anymore.”

“Good. Hate those greasy, overspiced heartcloggers.”

“Jake didn’t get one the week before he-” She chokes, and then she’s full on sobbing, in the bullpen, at work, professional Amy Santiago is sobbing and not even trying to hide it. “He didn’t get one and now he’ll come back and never get one again because they don’t do them anymore.”

And Gina is too paralysed to run over to Amy before Rosa reaches her, but she thinks that if Jake genuinely believes that Amy doesn’t believe he’s coming back, and clings onto that as her last shred of hope, then he’s an even bigger fool than she ever thought possible. And maybe she is too, for expecting the moment where Amy breaks him like everyone before her has. For thinking she could ever hurt him that way.

He comes back. He’s limping because of the bullet his girlfriend embedded into his thigh, and their kisses look awkward and stilted at first, but he comes back straight into her arms, and it doesn’t seem weird to Gina at all. It seems right where he belongs. 

He meets her dad, and whines about it to Gina a whole week before the event with his head on his binder, because he’s made a binder for this. Amy willingly moves him into his apartment, so meeting the parents can’t have gone that badly, and maybe binders aren’t as stupid as she thought. 

Gina’s out of commission after that for a while, but she’s sure the cutesy lovey dovey shit continues to haunt the halls of the precinct even when she’s not there to roll her eyes at it.

And then he goes to prison.

She doesn’t have to clean out a fridge this time, or cancel any contracts, because they’re all in Amy’s name anyway, and she makes sure that she eats the take away stored in their fridge instead, and then orders new ones to share. She does movie nights even without Rosa, even without another promise to Jake, but Amy doesn’t cry about Billy Elliot, she doesn’t cry about anything, really. She just sits there and watches, and then excuses herself early to work some more on ‘a case’. They both know which one. And Gina knows that once she gets done with that for the day, she will cry, and Gina won’t be there to pat her shoulder, and Rosa won’t be there to hold her, and Jake won’t be there at all to keep her from crying in the first place.

She shouldn’t care. They’re not really friends. She’s not promised anyone anything. But she does.

“Has he broken up with her yet?” Rosa asks through the horrible prison-telephone when Gina visits her.

“What, are you insane? Is solitary rotting your brain already?”

Rosa shakes her head.

“I told him to.”

“You have gone insane in there.”

“It’s not fair to either of them. She’s not gonna be able to wait 15 years. He won’t be able to stand that guilt.”

Gina stands up, as menacing as she can while still clinging to that stupid phone, and as much as she can muster in front of Rosa Diaz, the most menacing human she knows.

“Amy would wait 30 years if she had to, but she won’t have to. She’ll get you two out before that.”

And then she makes the most dramatic exit of her life.

She visits his mom. She’s visited her a lot in the last few months, even more than during Florida. It’s weird to watch one of the grown-ups who kind of raised you cry, but at least during this visit it’s more out of joy than anything else, as she hands her the little velvet box she’s asked for.

She figures out how to set up a phone call with someone in a prison cell, by doing actual research on her phone instead of playing games, and then she calls Jake.

“Man, it’s so good to hear your voice for real and not just in my head”, he says, and she kinda wants to ask, and kinda really doesn’t want to know.

“I got Nana’s ring from your mom.” She says instead, because they don’t do small-talk, and they don’t really do gentle. Not with each other.

“Oh, wow, what? For real? For who? Don’t you have like eight engagement rings already that you could re-use.”

“For you, idiot.” She pauses for a second, as if she really needs to say the next two words, but she suddenly wants to. “For Amy.”

“Oh.” 

He’s silent for a moment, and she hears the time they’re given run down.

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, Goose.”

It was an offer from Diavolo that started all this.

After Belphegor had lashed out you'd taken to staying away from any of the brothers. You'd never totally felt safe around the demons. They are demons after all, but you trusted that someone would always be there to protect you. That was what you were told at least. It worked in many circumstances, but not when you needed it most. Not when you actually died.

You were miserable. Everyone could tell just by the way you acted. A frown was on your face the majority of the time, you were always on guard around any demons, and you spent the majority of your nights at purgatory hall for some reason or another.

It hurt them to see you so terrified of their presence. Any little fight they had now flashed like a warning sign in your mind, alerting you to the danger of meddling in demon affairs. You'd leave, and they'd become discouraged, only realizing how empty everything felt with you gone. They try to make it up to you, try to keep away from their natural tendencies to get a bit rowdy, but nothing works. You're still petrified in their presence.

That's when Diavolo asks you if you want to go home. You're not comfortable here, it's written on your sleeve. It's affecting your mental health, and despite how much it hurts to send someone so perfect away, he does suggest you leave. To get some help, reconnect with yourself, and possibly forget they ever existed.

You agree.

It's heartbreaking when they find out. Belphegor blames himself, and so does everyone else. They see his mistake as the catalyst for all your changes in personality, when really it was just the final nail in the coffin. After being forced to participate in a stressful school schedule, to deal with men constantly busting into the room despite the lock, being expected to cook for the avatar of Gluttony at least once a week, and to have to find new hiding spots for your precious items to avoid loosing them to Mammon, it was a lot. You were always up, ready for some crazy new happening, never resting even when your body was on the verge of collapse. Your body couldn't handle it anymore, and after Belphegor, you knew you'd never sleep again

You don't say goodbye to them.

Lucifer acts like it doesn't bother him, and he'll act this way until the day he ceases to exist. It does though. He considered you a friend, possibly more, but seeing as you willingly left the realm, it's clear that he misjudged the situation. Satan doesn't receive the news any better. He's a lot more angry then Lucifer, but deep down they both know the eldest is just better at hiding his feelings. The house is a wreck without these two micromanaging every aspect, but neither ever pleaded with you to stay.

They blame Belphegor, but they also blame themselves for not showing you how much you meant to them. Satan knows he could have done more. He should have. In all the books in his library, why is there not one explaining how to fix such a situation? Lucifer almost thinks the same, but he knows he does not need books. He should have noticed your little set backs from the beginning, without the help of a book.

Mammon doesn't completely understand what happened. He's confused, not knowing what he did to make you despise him so. Levi tries to explain, sometimes through teary eyes and anxious hand movements, yet it still never really sinks in. Part of him believes he could have possibly shown his affections more. The other remaining side can't stop chastising himself for not knowing.

The third eldest feels abandoned, and he doesn't know why. You're just a normie. Just some human who shouldn't mean anything to him, but you do. He hates it. Leviathan wants nothing more to forget you, but how can he when your ghost still haunts these halls?

The only one who seems to be able to move on is Asmodeus, but that's far from the truth. He's good at faking emotions. Sure, he's never really had to fake being happy, but all the improv disappointment and whiney attitudes have prepared him for this. Asmo looks fine. No one really worries about him. They should.

Beelzebub and Belphegor have been at odds ever since you left. They both blame the youngest, and whilst Belphie doesn't usually care about his sibling's opinions, knowing Beelzebub is so angry with him hurts. He can't fix it either. You're not coming back, and Beelzebub will always be angry with him for doing something so selfish.

And Beelzebub is angry. He moves out of their shared bedroom and into your room. For weeks he refuses to even speak to Belphie, and after that he only acknowledges him in passing. It's heartbreaking to watch, but Beelzebub doesn't care. You're gone.

all that said i do think i should warn you that wheni say the show gets dark i mean it gets dark. the ygo series overall might shy away from a bit of blood but it is not at all afraid of diving into heavier themes and making you feel it. do not be fooled by the lighthearted nature of the first season it is not afraid to make you cry.

 which seems strange for a show thats seemingly just a childrens cardgame anime but when you take into account that ygo started out as a horror manga, and only switched over to the cardgame structure when the duel monsters arc took off, it makes a lot more sense.

VOD: TommyInnit Speaks To Dream’s Sister AGAIN

(rp): Drista!! I love this chaotic child and am looking forward to seeing the children bully each other lmao. I especially love the mythos around Creative mode, and that the most benevolent god on the Dream SMP is just as likely to ban you as hand you a shulker box lol.

I do wonder how in character cc!Tommy is going to be able to stay during this stream: on one hand he’s a master at staying in character even during lh moments, and on the other Exile arc is some Dark Shit and Dristas like what, 14?? Overall I expect this to be one of the lighter streams, with a smattering of moments where we remember that, oh right, Tommy’s pretty actively suicidal at this point and he sees this as one of his last hurrahs.

Speaking of our boy Tommy: it's very clear we are getting closer and closer to the infamous pillar. He switches rapidly between Fight and Fawn reflexes and has mostly internalized Dream’s treatment and conditions at this point. The one stand out moment being him calling out Dream killing Mexican Dream last stream, and pointing out he was changing his story even when Dream tried to lie and say he died of “a drug overdose [...] or natural causes”. I’m curious if Tommy is going to bring it up again, and even more curious if he eventually believes Dream about it; something to watch out for, for sure. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this moment of rebellion happened right after he had someone both stand up for him and spend time with him that wasn’t actively hostile or going to end (supposedly, at least by intention)

I ackknowledge that there aren’t a lot of men in the main cast, and I don’t want to say that non-het men have to be included; but I guess I just felt that there was a quite good setup for a deeper connection to be explored with Victor and Jayce, and instead both of them got a female love interest (though I didn’t think Victor was interested in her, but still she existed). okay so a couple of the rules are dont give a fae your true name and don't try to figure out their true name

So

what if virgil accidentally gave up part of his true name, and got stuck in the deal, but then figured out janus' true name

so in the same vein that janus had control over virgil, virgil now has more control over janus

he still gets his magic from janus, so he cant break free completely, but virgil has more freedom and can occasionally tell janus what to do or when to shove it

there should a running gag where virge can explain how he learned Jan’s true name but Jan can make something loudly censor him every time

(he learned his name bc once he heard janus practicing his evil genius voice and talking to himself in the mirror and janus said his true name)

so maybe janus sent virgil on the quest to protect a town or stop something related to remus, but virgil dragged him along

he might just be trying to protect a town thats close to a ley line, or something fae-related, and they just happen upon the whole thing

janus is selfish. but lawful vs chaotic is where he comes through, in morals vs doing whatever. janus has a strong set of loyalties to the fae, and to himself

so like....Remus is just too close to Jan's stuff and he wants to take him down

Virgil is just like....exhausted and said "fine, but if i gotta do this, you're coming, too"

or at least figure out a way to protect his place, even if it doesnt mean fully taking out remus. just moving him would work for jan
