Hmm... 🤔
Now, with the hype fire down and after another series rewatch, I can say that I honestly prefer Season 1 over Season 2.
Why?
So! S2 is cool, but it's so... rushed >_> like, there was plot there for at least two seasons, if not three! Most of it feels like a summary of events, while in S1, everything is told so well.
Heavy spoilers and rant alert for after the cut!
Another thing that bothered me was how Isha's death was written, and Jinx not coming back to Ekko (and I'm not saying this because I'm a timebomb shipper, I'm saying this from a writing standpoint).
The way Isha faced her own sacrifice was so... mature, like, how come a 10(?) years old be so under control of their emotions in a situation like that? The first time I watched it already felt so odd that I couldn't even get teary.
If they had shown Isha acting on pure instinct and panic, it could have been a parallel of when Powder used the monkey bomb to (try to) help her family, thus, reinforcing the idea of how Jinx sees her young self on Isha and how now she's an older sister figure.
If Isha survived somehow* and got in a severe comatose state, we could have had Jinx going full Joker mode. Imagine that she got done for good with everything and decided to create a deadly weapon to wipe Piltover (and possibly Noxus, too) off the map, and that's when Ekko would have shown up to make her change her mind about her next step.
*shit was going to explode anyway, so why not simply THROW IT INSTEAD?!
Unfortunately, the way they showed the many time rewinds actually made the scene low-key sort of comical, I saw myself snorting when I definitely shouldn't have! Plus, Jinx trying to trigger a massive weapon instead of killing herself could have been a parallel to the end of S1: Jinx is again firing off a deadly weapon because she's severely mentally hurt again, but this time someone managed to talk her out of the idea... IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A PERFECT "BREAKING THE CICLE" KINDA THING.
Also, why the hell didn't Jinx come back to Ekko?! Like... WHY?! That end of her deciding to sacrifice herself was SO RANDOM* to me! Because... she made amends with her sister, she had a place to come back after the war (the hideout), she finally had someone taking care of her how she truly needs it, leading her to finally achieve self-acceptance... we were supposed to have a parallel to epi 7 of main Jinx and Ekko bounding and that indeed happened because of how Jinx and Ekko are on epi 9...
*While I did cry when the explosion happened, it didn't take me too long to stop and go like, "Wait a minute!"
So why leave?! WHY?! SHE FINALLY HAD WHAT SHE NEEDED AND DESERVED... SO WHY FUCKING LEAVE?!
I can go over she trying to leave Vi's life so she can move on, but I can't accept her departure. Was that also for Ekko to move on? After all that bonding??? Like... WTF?! Did she tell Ekko she would leave for a while? Was the name he had wrote on the paper "Powder"? Showing how he finally accepted Jinx? That's why we didn't see what he wrote?
Now imagine that adding to the fact that Isha is in coma, Jinx would have another reason to come back to the Firelights and Ekko.
Urgh... okay, rant is over. I'll be back to writing my AU.
If you want to start a discussion with me, do it politely like a decent human being. I do like to discuss and theorize about Arcane, but I'll only lend you my attention and time if you are nice and chill, I'll not tolerate any form of hating and offencive behavior/discourse (also, be mindful that I'm not an english native speaker, so please, use tone indicators!).
#you all probably never saw me ranting#so here we are#the more I think about the two mentioned scenes#on the entire story context#the more they look off the place to me#something that truly didn't happen on S1#arcane#arcane season 2 spoilers#arcane season 2#arcane s2

Finally finishing totk
#Totk#Art#Comic#Link#This one gets main blog privileges lololol#Context: I had beat 1 dungeon and promised my buddy not to progress without them. I was just filling out the map and these guys appeared#Totk spoilers in the tags#Okay so here's my totk story because it hurts everyone I tell including myself#First time I played totk I got really fed up with the tutorial. It would just never end.#I got so fed up with it in fact... I never did the story. At all!#My buddy wanted to watch me do the story but we kept missing each other#So I ended up avoiding anything even tangentially related to plot#I never met any characters. Never even knew there were bosses and dungeons. Never entered the castle#And one time my buddy told me there was the awesome boss in the depths I could fight-- a king dragon. Woaaahhh#I made my way over there and was so ready for this epic battle and ended up killing it in 5 seconds. I was too powerful 😂#Keep in mind I did NO DUNGEONS and had grinded up the dynamic difficulty entirely through common enemies to the point of silver lynels#So yeah I stopped playing because I realized I was way too overpowered to start the story#So I started all over again. Finally doing totk the Intended Way™#Uhh... Doing one single dungeon raised the difficulty to the point of black hoglins appearing?? What???#I'm basically rushing every dungeon (I just finished the second one) without preparing at all or doing any shrines#(I killed colgera while dying from cold damage at 4 hearts because I ran out of cold res LMFAO)#So this is really testing my Zelda skillz. It's very fun.#Also. During the first dungeon. I was so obsessed with the kid I almost looked up how I could keep him as my companion#My buddy was so excited for me to find out what the reward was for beating the dungeon 😂😂😂#What else funny... Oh yeah my old save was so jank I never actually got any more than 5 hearts.#Yes I had to defeat lynels mostly hitless since they can kill you despite the mercy quarter heart#I also went to do the first dungeon on the first save and accidentally entered the ship without the child. It TRAPS YOU INSIDE.#It doesn't even give you a warp it just says “die or warp out”. Except I didn't get the shrine halfway up. So I decided to hoverbike out 😓#Oh yeah and it turns out you can ABSOLUTELY get the master sword so so easily.#She flies right past the water dungeon and phases out of existence near immediately it's very funny.

I’m on board with the “Adar was/is Celeborn” theory purely because I want this crack exchange -
Adar/Celeborn: You cheated on me with Sauron!
Galadriel: Well you also cheated on me with Sauron so the scales are balanced
Adar/Celeborn: What?? In what-
Galadriel: You left me, your wife, for 1000 years, to have a family and children with him
Adar/Celeborn: Okay, well, you fell in love with him. Which means you weren’t even in love with me in the first place. Which is worse
Galadriel: YOU LITERALLY HAD HIS CHILDREN
Adar/Celeborn: You married me for all eternity wiTHOUT EVEN BEING IN LOVE WITH ME
High King Gil-Galad, to Elrond: Still think he’s fake and they’re not married?
Elrond: Oh no, I take it back, they’re definit- oh my god Galadriel do not challenge him to a duel there is nothing wrong with your womb gods above
#Galadriel: HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT LOVE FELT LIKE IT ONLY HAPPENS ONCE#Adar/Celeborn: Well apparently it feels like a scruffy lost king that doesn’t even EXIST#Galadriel: MY children wouldn’t have stabbed you to death#Adar/Celeborn: SHUT UP#my desire to turn rings of power into a comedy is strong#it also legitimately feels like the only path where you don’t feel bad for Celeborn#because they both abandoned the other for Sauron#and they both are equally obsessed with killing him#also Adar was way way too weird around Galadriel for it to be normal#and you can’t set up and feed an entire relationship between the two just to kill him#they were literally more interesting than all the Galadriel Elrond stuff#the parallels and mutual understanding#who better to help her heal from the darkness infecting her than someone who was also changed by Saurons darkness#it also means you get both Celeborn and Sauron in the story without forfeiting the relationship Galadriel has with either#rop spoilers#rop season 2#rop#galadriel#galadriel/sauron#galadriel/halbrand#gil galad#elrond#sauron#adar rings of power#rings of power#celeborn#adar#oh context elves can only fall in love once#so Galadriel cannot have been in love before if she fell for Halbrand#which is a huge yikes for Celeborn lmao

thinking about the character again (cinderpelt) and it's likely unintentional and a result of either her shifting narrative role from young go getter to wise mentor or a shift in how the books display their own politics but i find something really tragic in-universe in how she develops from a character who will actively and willingly break the warrior code when it conflicts with her own morals (immediately lying to cover for graystripe and silverstream, acting in direct defiance of her leadership to nurse littlecloud and whitethroat back to health) but overtime through her role she gradually grows more god-fearing and pious and embodies somewhat of a "starclan is always right, even when they are cruel, and we need to accept that" position
#i dont want to get too into the deeper philosophy behind cinderpelt's arc in twilight bc there's a lot of messier factors there#namely what is potentially intended to be a story about faith and emotional strength in the context of terminal illness#but in warrior cats fate is tied to starclan and starclan is also the theocratic government and the law and the status quo#and i think cinderpelt's character is an interesting microchosm of the influence that proximity to it can have#im interrupting a rant thread on my priv twitter to bring this point here instead but that's not even getting into how like#cinderpelt grew up in the bluestar era where bluestar was rebelling against starclan in a way that directly affected her own life#traumatising her sister with a demeaning name. indirectly killing her cousin. leading to the little+white situation.#leaving her (a child/teen/young adult) in the awkward position of being the ambassador TO starclan#but then when bluestar dies she immediately BECOMES the face of starclan. likely who cinderpelt would often speak with#it's fucked up!!!! theres a lot of implications about her character's relationship to starclan that are really untouched#and it makes sense that they are bc it's all built on headcanon and subtext and entirely unintentional coincidence but STILLL

so dndads live show St Paul! idk how much of this is a spoiler for anyone else going to shows so I'ma cut here!
we had!
- so many gay people in the audience that as I was walking in to the venue I said to my friend damn this is like a pride parade and a bunch of gay people in front of me were like TRUEE
- a live performance of both! dead and gone and rocks rock! it was so incredible. Beth and Will both POPPED OFFF!!!!!! they were so cool oh my god. and Freddie fucking shredded it on the electric guitar it was so sick.
- silly St Paul themed dad facts plus Ron just uhh thinking all manual labor is called a hand job.
- the people royally fucking up the dice roll (not my fault I was in the balcony I cannot be held responsible)
- the people absolutely manifesting the complete improv prompt as the live show topic. and all of the cast going into mourning over it (will fell to his knees on the stage so dramatically it was so funny)
- the cast deciding to do a DND game with their characters! Starring: Will Campos as Henry oak as Mr Chris (later Dr Chris), by the book health inspector! Matt Arnold as Darryl Wilson as Darryl, ex football quarterback now accomplished priest searching to remember all 10 commandments! Beth may as Ron stampler as Nor Relpmats, doctor (the best health inspector of them all)! and Freddie Wong as Glenn Close as Glenn The Closer, weed enjoyer moonlighting as a health inspector relying on his gut! Anthony Burch as Patrick as Patrick the shit (among other characters)!
- the audience not being able to stop being horny when giving suggestions for what their location, bad guy, and theme were gonna be (bdsm dungeon, just a guy from the audience named Patrick, and a 10 commandments dildo)
- an abundance of flashbacks and one single flashforward
- butt spanking competition to get past the second door (it is a bdsm castle ig)
-mr Chris tests to see if the floor has been cleaned recently and thinks it hasn't. Glenn the closers gut says it's fine but Mr Chris says if he tastes some of what's on the ground he'll be able to tell better. Glenn the Closer bites his fingers and Mr Chris is into it.
- Mr Chris finding a dead cockroach on the ground and revives it using CPR and mouth to mouth (Anthony is the cockroach and also when will tried to fake the mouth to mouth yelled DO IT PUSSY so yeah they actually kissed like twice at least) and revived it to ask about the cleanliness of the floor and found it not very.
- none other than paeden bennets on the second level, who Darryl proceeded to obliterate with a holy football. I'm not lying (not before asking how Patrick the DM knew about their friend Paeden who was long dead and us getting a lively npc on npc scene by Anthony of Patrick meeting Paeden and getting punched in the balls and saying "I'll never forget you")
- Test by the health inspectors to see if the blood of paeden would get cleaned up. all of the soots from spirited away came in with little mops to clean it and cleaned all the party. Glenn rolled to see if he's into it and got a 9 but the crowd gave inspiration and he got a 6, which is 69 so he was and wanted to stay there forever with the soots. Henry as Mr Chris used his persuasion to get Glenn the closer to leave the soots by saying that whatever they're doing he could do it better. because apparently they're ex lovers now. (Anthony yelled something about Will wanting to kiss another boy)
- Flashback reveals that they were highschool sweethearts but were going to health inspection schools on opposite sides of the US and were talking about how their relationship would progress from there when Mr Chris' secret lover barges in and informs them that they're pregnant and he's the father! Glenn the Closer gets upset and asks what happened and Mr Chris proceeds to another, extremely graphic, flashback where Ron the doctor commentates the uhhh conceiving of said child. and Glenn is understandably upset at the graphicness of this explanation about being cheated on. They end with bitter words, stating they're now nemesis in health inspection.
- Nor asks Mr Chris how long it's been since he saw his son Patrick. (not since birth lmao)
- they go up to the final level, find Patrick using the commandment dildo, on the 8th one I think, and upon seeing his absent father run in and ask "are ya winning, son!?"gets extremely turned off. he understandably asks what he's doing there after being absent his whole life. Mr Chris explains that he's finally ready to be back in his life, with his husband Glenn the closer, and his newfound belief in Christianity from Darryl the priest who's really good at football.
- Flashforward to Mr Chris and Glenn the Closer living together and apparently "they're bougie enough to have their own priest" so Darryl lives with them too. Nor comes to visit and we see the commandment dildo hanging above the mantle.
and that's that on that.
#this is incomprehensible#i guess thats what you get from improv lmao#it was so fucking funny tho y'all i had such a time#huge shout out to the entire cast for being so cool and coming to my state first#did i drive 4 hours to get to st paul and am i going to have to drive another 4 hours to get back tomorrow#yes#did i spend a lot of money overall on the tickets and the gas#you know what#it just be like that sometimes#dndads#dungeons and daddies#glenn close#darryl wilson#ron stampler#henry oak#glennry i guess???#i mean its also just the age old story of fucking your friends through dnd tho#also shout out to my friend who came with me having not listened to any of dndads besides the animatics ive sent and my rants about the plot#like it truly experienced so much with so little context

I think part of why I'm a little bit softer towards Quackity's finale, or simply unsure of how to criticize it, is that, perhaps more than any other ending we've seen, the meta elements are... very difficult to ignore.
DSMP was a roleplay server. Even at its most highly produced and pre-written, it was still a roleplay server. Moreover, it was a roleplay in which all of the characters shared a name with their player, the lines between the fiction and the OOC friendships were frequently blurred, and very few people had much if any experience with roleplay and its associated pitfalls such as the dreaded "character bleed." That is an environment ripe for joy and excitement. It's also an environment rife with turbulence and wounded feelings.
So, the first thing is that this doesn't just represent an ending for c!Quackity, it represents closing a chapter in cc!Quackity's career. When he got the chance to stream in his native language without fear of being judged or mocked for it, k!Quackity was born. When he embarked on a project that reconciled his two audiences, there was q!Quackity. c!Quackity was a storytelling triumph as far as MCYT goes, but where was he to go next?
On a narrative level, I find it interesting that the two survivors, and the traits portrayed that helped them decide to continue living, represent what were once c!Quackity's best traits - k!Quackity's determination and sense of justice, and q!Quackity's love and desire to connect with others. Combined with c!Slime's parting words of "Thank you for teaching me what it's like to be human," this might underscore a point that c!Quackity was ultimately a learning experience, both for the writer and the other characters. He might be gone, but he still left some positive impact. The ones who came after him chose not to continue a negative cycle.
However, the other snag here is... the other people. Yeah. No need for detail, you know who I mean. The controversies, the racism mentioned above, the legitimately awful treatment of those within and without the DSMP circle. A lot of us won't excuse the writing because of that. And I get it - we, the audience, can easily separate the story from the people behind it. If this were a film franchise or television show, it would be easy to replace the actors and move on. Not so in a roleplay. Not so when the actor and character have bled together so much.
I've got to get a little personal.
Within the last few months, I've dealt with a similar experience - someone who I frequently roleplayed with and who I considered a close friend became incredibly abusive to one of my other friends, to the point where he needed to be distanced from our lives and cut from future plots entirely. Logistically, that is a hard thing to deal with, especially when your character was closely entwined with theirs and dozens of others. But emotionally, it's even harder. You start questioning past interactions, wondering whether the signs were always there. You start noticing strange details in their writing that you know you might be reading too much into, but still make you sick to think about. In extreme cases, the thought of even playing your own character again becomes unbearable, because they were so clearly impacted by the choices of people you no longer want anything to do with.
I had an easier time adapting my character to the new course of events. My other friend, the one who had suffered his betrayal firsthand, nearly had her character disappear alongside his.
Sometimes, people cope with endings the way Tommy did. By saying, "No, I'm going to go back and end on a happy note, because my character deserves that, and the goodness was there." Sometimes, that just... doesn't feel possible. I really truly have to wonder if c!Quackity, for all the pride and care that was clearly taken in crafting his story, was just a holder of too many negative experiences and attributes for the writer to do anything but throw up one last cathartic hurrah and shelve him forever.
I'm not saying it was the ideal ending for c!Quackity. I'm not saying it was perfectly written, or that the absence of certain characters wasn't baffling or frustrating. I'm not even saying people aren't justified in hating how our favorite character's story concluded. Hell, I'm still not sure whether I like how brutal, how final, how bitterly tragic it was.
I'm just saying it's hard for me not to empathize.
#normally i don't like to speak too much on cc dynamics or speculate about their personal lives#but i think my own life circumstances give me some. uh. unfortunate perspective in this case#i'd always read and analyzed the DSMP the way i read and analyze literature and film#but i think the closer analogue is what i've done more recently - hobbyist roleplay in the context of a large and rambunctious gaming group#there will never be a perfect story. or even one entirely divorced from authorial context. and that's especially true of this medium#i can't fathom how hard it is to navigate all that interpersonal bullshit when you also have an audience you can't disappoint#dsmp#c!quackity

the darkling says “fine, make me your villain” because he is. what’s not clicking
#shadow and bone#grishaverse#sab#aleksander morozova#the darkling#pro darkling#sab meta#‘he acts like he isn’t the villain’ like yeah I guess if you want to examine it without any deeper analysis#when the statement itself is actually fascinating to put into a narrative context and analyze the means by which certain steadfast roles#are enacted throughout the books#and the larger implications of character want/desire and leading goal vs world state and perceived morality#largely due to prejudice and war time sentiments#as well as the individual harm caused and the way it’s significance becomes questionable when placed in stark contrast#to the broader political and socioeconomic climate#which doesn’t even take into consideration individual character roles and the doylist analysis of their relative functions as ideas#instead of entire personalities with depth#when you give an idealistic character a goal larger than life with a tactical relevance over a moral one#within a story that also centers around a broader goal of ‘saving the world’ as well as personal trauma#and attempt to liken both to the same moral equivalence and significance#then try to pit them against each other#especially when your narratively condemned villain desires more than anything to protect the masses and be loved for it#showing a fascinating level of genre unawareness. yet displaying a relative awareness to the role he has been unwillingly cast as#because he is both at odds with the genre but not with the general moral tone of the story and it's discordant messages#that rely on the pov of a character that fundamentally cannot understand him#because of his place in the story#and cannot understand the world state#because of her place in the story#you are going to get statements like this#sure yes. he ‘says it like he isn’t the villain’#but come on. we can do better

shipping yhk not in a romantic or platonic way but a secret third way (⬛️⬛️)
#domo rambles#its like. u cant put a label on whatever the fuck is going on between those 3 they make me a little insane#their dynamic is just so insane in the context of the story. but i also need them in a low-stakes high school au#something very cyclical about them. you meet someone and you cant help but love them so much that youd do anything to save them#so you doom the universe and kickstart all the events that brought so much misery and suffering to others just to keep that 1 person alive#bc thats how important they are to you. you pour your soul into writing this story even as you slowly disappear#in the hopes they stay alive. bc they have to survive and you will ensure that#and to do that you create someone who will try again and again to survive at all costs. someone who doesnt givr up#and so the character is born. and you have little recollection of your life before adulthood#but one thing youre sure about is that you will see the end of the scenarios#and then you meet someone who somehow understands what you went thru in a way youve never experienced before#and they shine so brightly likr a star in the night sky you cant help but love them#and so you chase them across worldlines to keep them alive. bc they have to survive. you almost feel like thats your purpose#that you were created for the sole purpose of loving this person and ensuring their survival#and youd doom yourself to keep repeating this life just for the chance to meet that person once more#and then at the center of all this. you see the universe someone created for you and you cant help but love it with your entire being#this was what kept you alive all these years and what kept you from giving up. you dont deserve this salvation#you are rhe reason for the pain and suffering of so many including the one thats kept you alive all these years#you are the reason someone doomed the universe and created something by chipping away at themselves for years#and so to atone for this you would doom yourself to an eternity of loneliness in order to sustain this universe someone created for you#i created this universe for your survival. i was created so you would survive. this universe will survive and i'll doom myself to ensure it#sorry i ended up writing an essay. can you tell im insane about them#orv#orv spoilers#yoohankim#if you read all this im kissing u on the mouth

hi, i haven't read the iliad and the odyssey but want to - do u have a specific translation you recommend? the emily wilson one has been going around bc, y'know, first female translator of the iliad and odyssey into english, but i was wondering on if you had Thoughts
Hi anon! Sorry for the somewhat late response and I'm glad you trust me with recommendations! Full, disclosure, I am somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to translations of the source text of the Iliad + Odyssey combo wombo, which means I tend to prefer closeness in literal verbiage over interpretation of the poetic form of these epics - for that reason, my personal preferred versions of the Odyssey and Iliad both are Robert Fitzgerald's. Because both of these translations (and his Aeneid!) were done some 50+ years ago (63 for his original Odyssey tl, 50 flat for his Iliad and 40 for his Aeneid) the English itself can be a bit difficult to read and the syntax can get confusing in a lot of places, so despite my personal preferences, I wouldn't recommend it for someone who is looking to experience the Iliad + Odyssey for the very first time.
For an absolute beginner, someone who has tried to read one or both of these epics but couldn't get into it or someone who has a lot of difficulty with concentrating on poetry or long, winding bits of prose, I fully and wholeheartedly recommend Wilson's translation! See, the genius of Emily Wilson's Iliad + Odyssey isn't that she's a woman who's translated these classics, it's that she's a poet who's adapted the greek traditional poetic form of dactylic hexameter into the english traditional poetic form of iambic pentameter. That alone goes a very very long way to making these poems feel more digestible and approachable - iambic pentameter is simply extremely comfortable and natural for native english speakers' brains and the general briskness of her verbiage helps a lot in getting through a lot of the problem books that people usually drop the Iliad or Odyssey in like Book 2 of the Iliad or Book 4 of the Odyssey. I think it's a wonderful starting point that allows people to familiarise themselves with the source text before deciding if they want to dig deeper - personally, researching Wilson's translation choices alone is a massive rabbit hole that is worth getting into LOL.
The happy medium between Fitzgerald's somewhat archaic but precise syntax and Wilson's comfortable meter but occasionally less detailled account is Robert Fagles' Iliad + Odyssey. Now, full disclosure, I detest how Fagles handles epithets in both of his versions, I think they're far too subtle which is something he himself has talked at length about in his translation notes, but for everything else - I'd consider his translations the most well rounded of english adaptations of this text in recent memory. They're accurate but written in plain English, they're descriptive and detailled without sacrificing a comfortable meter and, perhaps most importantly, they're very accessible for native english speaking audiences to approach and interact with. I've annotated my Fagles' volumes of these books to heaven and back because I'm deeply interested in a lot of the translation decisions made, but I also have to specifically compliment his ability to capture nuance in the characters' of these poems in a way I don't often see. He managed to adapt the ambivalence of ancient greek morality in a way I scarcely see and that probably has a hand in why I keep coming back to his translations.
Now, I know this wasn't much of a direct recommendation but as I do not know you personally, dear anon, I can't much make a direct recommendation to a version that would best appeal to your style of reading. Ideally, I'd recommend that you read and enjoy all three! But, presuming that you are a normal person, I suggest picking which one is most applicable for you. I hope this helps! 🥰
#ginger answers asks#greek mythology#the iliad#the odyssey#okay so now that I'm not recommending stuff I also highly highly HIGHLY suggest Stephen Mitchell's#Fuck accuracy and nuance and all that shit if you just want a good read without care for the academic side of things#Stephen Mitchell's Iliad and Odyssey kick SO much fucking ass#I prefer Fitzgerald's for the busywork of cross-checking and cross-referencing and so it's the version I get the most use out of#But Mitchell's Iliad specifically is vivid and gorgeous in a way I cannot really explain#It's not grounded in poetic or translationary preferences either - I'm just in love with the way he describes specifically the gods#and their work#Most translations and indeed most off-prose adaptations are extremely concerned with the human players of these epics#And so are a bit more ambivalent with the gods - but Mitchell really goes the extra mile to bring them to life#Ugh I would be lying if I said Mitchell's Apollo doesn't live rent free in my mind mmm#Other translations I really like are Stanley Lombardo's (1997) Thomas Clark's (1855) and Smith and Miller (1944)#Really fun ones that are slightly insane in a more modern context (but that I also love) are Pope's (1715) and Richard Whitaker (2012)#Whitaker's especially is remarkable because it's a South African-english translation#Again I can't really talk about this stuff because the ask was specifically for recommendations#But there are SO many translations and adaptations of these two epics and while yes I have also contributed to the problem by recommending#three very popular versions - they are alas incredibly popular for a reason#Maybe sometime I'll do a listing of my favourite Iliad/Odyssey tls that have nothing to do with academic merit and instead are rated#entirely on how much I enjoy reading them as books/stories LMAO

it seems like cesare being conventionally attractive has done damage to society because i'm sorry but like why am i getting the "he deserved better :((" type of tags under my gifsets as if he isn't the anti-hero whose narrative of the show is heavily biased in his favor and he never faced any consequences of his murders and betrayals and by the end of the show he had literally Everything he coveted and was at his pinnacle so like...how did he Exactly deserve better than all of this because i feel like we're watching different shows atp
#and like all of That makes him the anti hero of all time and not every lead has to be so sympathetic for them to be compelling#bro at the high of his glory and his father even told him that he has always planned for him to be his heir and forgave him for Everything#including killing his younger son and giving him the position that he had spent the entire show tweaking over juan for !!#like i gotta confess he lost his sob story once he started to act out on his selfishness and snakery which makes him more fascinating btw !#i only find tragedy when he's in the context of his relationship with lucrezia but i can't even feel sympathy for him outside of that ngl#even if he didn't have his father's affection back then...he still had his trust and he's pretty much the only one he confides in#idk perhaps i don't see what some fans see no matter how hard i tried#we need to study the overdehumanization of juan (the only one btwn the brothers who suffered the most and would never betray his brother)#and the oversympathization of cesare (for being the hot lead who's done 98% of juan's evil deeds but never gets clocked for them)#the borgias#tb text post

behold: my least favorite string of words in the entirety of Tears of the Kingdom.
#totk critical#totk#tloz#gerudos#when will my brain return from the imprisoning war....#I just stumbled upon it again doing research yesterday and....#there's so many layers as to why it aggravates me#that it's spoken from the perspective of a masked woman as to embody all gerudos while removing her own identity#in the context of her loyalty to rauru as well#that giving birth to a bad man makes you responsible for his actions (he's not a toddler anymore he's an adult ok)#or more metaphorically that your initial conflict with hyrule makes you Sinful and cursed and you must Feel Bad Now *shame shame*#that she's passing on that ageless guilt with no expiration date onto the shoulders of *a teenager* and it's considered GOOD???#(wind waker shaking crying right now)#ALL OF THAT to prop her up to swear her loyalty to the people planning to go murder their ancient king (sure he's a Bad but still???)#using some sort of weird ass original sin scenario that is arguably not any gerudo's fault but Ganondorf's#(or if it is then it's not shown so ???)#the vibes are so so so off I just really !!!!! don't like#this is stuff like this that makes me reject that it's a good story about alliances being formed in good faith#because this is just manipulative#maybe the alliance angle everyone's stronger together was the intention but the execution is another story entirely#gerudos never benefited from ganondorf's actions also#so it's not even a case of making reparations for the way you benefit from systemic oppression due to your ancestor's actions#gerudos won literally nothing in ganondorf's war#apparently he even subjugated them if they weren't on his side (like.... a king would.... not to excuse it but the double standard here)#so it just instrumentalizes the ageless sin of motherhood + suffering under a bad monarch billion of years ago for war#so uhhh.... yeah that's not... that's pretty bad imo#the gerudo girl could have went “hey girl this man used us and still hurt us to this day let's kick his ass once and for all”#and this would have been a different story entirely#a little cheap but not.... That Bad

feeling vindicated by clark recent interview because i remember pointing out how galadriel is a mirror to sauron ( more specifically a reflection to one of his older aspect, mairon ). her ambition and pride, along with her relentless pursuit for justice, is a mirage to his past as he believe he is ALL of that aspect when he is not. his attachment towards galadriel has always been about what he personally desire and want in himself, rather than a mutual understanding to one another, as both of them deceived the other.
he sees himself as a bearer of true justice, despite the cruelty he commit. he believe in his cause to reshape the middle earth, and when he sees another being such as he, ancient and passionate of her own objective, he sees a manifestation of himself within her. he sees the being he was once and idealized. in return, he wants that. he wants her companionship because he wanted her to be his eyes where he had once lost.
#the rings of power#rings of power#galadriel#sauron#saurondriel#this is specifically show related#because if we're talking in the context of the books..... lmfao#it would be an an entirely different story

Also for the record, the whole White Witch-enchanted food thing still would have worked regardless of when the story was set. Kids like sweets, especially magic ones that symbolize temptation. The WW2 sugar rationing is not the pivotal element here
#the ww2 aspect of narnia is interesting flavor but like. it's not really essential#lots of books are inextricably linked to their historical contexts such that they can't be properly understood without them#i honestly don't think lww is one of them#the turn of the century setting of mn is far far more important to the story proper than ww2 is for lww#bc of the role it plays in genre and the influence of lewis's childhood on the story#the evacuation of london has one (1) essential story function: it gets the kids into a strange country house and away from their parents#you'll notice it gets dropped entirely in subsequent books#it's very interesting set dressing and definitely cool to play with#but narnia is not at its heart a ww2 story#if anything it's a ww1 story#narnia#idk why but I'm feeling very salty today

i'll be honest, i truly do not understand when people get all up in arms whenever anyone involved with spn describes cas's love for dean as beyond the human understanding of love, as if there haven't been posts made on here for years by fans literally describing cas's love for dean / destiel's love as akin to worship, a powerful force greater than god, cosmic, all encompassing, profound, etc etc. i thought the outrage was silly when jensen expressed the idea of cas's love being more than romantic back in denver con 2021 and i think it's silly now with these bedlund tweets. not to mention being more than and beyond something imo means it encompasses the romantic AND more. it's romantic, it's platonic, it's cosmic, it's worship, it's everything. and i think that's beautiful. and yes, it's exactly what their love is. a huge profound force that changed the narrative, that wasn't meant to be there, that kept breaking through anyway.
and i understand what people are saying about this language being used for a queer ship etc etc, but like, there's nothing inherently wrong or negating their love in saying that it's a greater love. if anything i think it's saying, hey, see these two? yea their love is bigger than what we can even comprehend. idk i'm just going to continue to take these statements in good faith. and also, until the reboot happens, they can't really say more about destiel beyond the bounds of the confession. jensen, bedlund, misha, etc can't speak to dean's feelings, for instance, or confirm anything one way or another, because if those feelings are a major plot point to be explored and acknowledged in the continuation then to speak about them now with any kind of definitive statement would be spoiling / jumping the gun, and it's not their place to make those statements yet, if we are indeed going to see more of dean and cas's story in the future (which i mean, at this point based on their statements about the reboot it's really a When not If situation).
#my two cents✌#personally i love their profound bond and cosmic out of this world love#yes it can also be incredibly human. but i also think there is inherently a greater aspect to it simply bc it IS a supernatural show#and one half of the couple is a supernatural being. and also. their story itself is profound and great and god-defying#i also think how being an angel intersects with cas's love is an interesting concept to explore as a storyteller.#even as human of an angel as he is by the end of the show he still spent a millennia as one and that's still a part of who he is#and it will influence his perception on love and how he feels it. how for an angel these feelings might be heightened or different#and that doesn't make those feelings not romantic or queer. but the angelic contexts of cas's love is interesting !!!#it's neat and fun to think abt !!!!#i also think the reason other angel / human couples don't get spoken about as such is just. well. they're minor characters#and their stories are different.#destiel and their entire journey together is inherently a very profound story imo that the other couples just don't compare to#vic.txt#profound bond#fandom

do you think we'll see corvus again but like in a more political role since he says to ornella at the end of nevermoor that he's "making inroads into federal government" and the involvement of the wintersea party and maud in hollowpox?
I would LOVE to see that. Although he doesn’t seem to know anything, I wonder if Maud would keep him around due to his connection with Morrigan. Would be crazy if there’s some sort of father-daughter reunion when Mog is like 15 or something and she’s in the Wintersea Republic for some reason. I would love to see his character get more involved into the political world of the Wintersea Republic and thus inadvertently getting more involved/closer and closer to his daughter (proximity, not bonding).
Part of me wonders if, deep down, Corvus knows that Mog isn’t dead. Also, I mentioned recently that he could be interesting to revisit re: what happened to Mog’s mom. I’d love to know some more information about him or from him in relation to his late wife.
Remember that part in Nevermoor where Squall makes Mog’s brother wave his little baby hand as he’s like “should I kill them for you?” regarding her family? Considering Squall is scared of Maud… I could see her doing worse. Actually following through on her threats in a way Squall might not. (Not saying she would kill Mog’s family as I think there’s 0% of that, but just… threaten Mog in a more serious way.)
#asks#nevermoor#imagine he’s the old character we revisit in Silverborn lol#BTW I’ll have to look thru the insta story archives but does anyone out there have the actual story where she references that ?#I want to understand the full context and make sure we haven’t been deluding ourselves this entire time lol
