random wip wednesday thing! sonic and vanilla having a deep conversation post frontiers edition

”I just…” Sonic stared down at his hands helplessly before he sighed, “I just thought that maybe I’ve been in his life long enough to…I don’t know, reverse any damage they may have caused. I mean, he barely remembers anything about his life before he met me so…”

Vanilla hummed as she considered the hedgehog in front of her and his words, “Well, I don’t know much about this particular subject, but I do know how important it is for young children to receive parental affection and care. It's a very formative time for them and that neglect can have devastating effects on the child later on in life.”

She paused for a brief moment before continuing, “When I was pregnant with Cream, I remember speaking to a few mothers to get some insight and listen to other’s experiences. One of their stories always stuck out to me.” Something about her gaze turned sad, her grip on her mug tightening, “One of the ladies told me about how she didn’t receive much affection when she was younger and how she was using her experience with that as a motivator to be the best mom she possibly could. I remember her mentioning that it almost felt like a piece of her was missing and she was angry for a long time.”

Sonic eyes widened as she went on, “I wouldn’t be surprised if the absence of his parents is starting to weigh on Tails. And, while you’ve been a wonderful guardian for him, I don’t think there’s much that can truly fill in the gap that they left behind.”

Vanilla’s words hung like a weight over Sonic that threatened to fall and break him into a million pieces any second. Had Tails really been struggling with something like that? The kit never told him about anything of the sort and never seemed to even think about his parents. Hell, most days Sonic forgot that Tails hadn’t always been with him. That his last name didn’t just come from nowhere and there are people out there who are biologically related to the kit.

He’d forget that there was a time his little brother wasn’t in his life.

That no one was, really.

Something else suddenly started to enter his mind, something that forced its way in and took over like a parasite. Any thoughts about his little brother were buried in an instant and Sonic felt himself tense. One single question bounced around his skull, trying to escape its confines and make itself known to the rabbit sitting across from him.

If that’s how that lady and Tails felt, then…

WIBTA for writing Sonic Fanfiction about my dead aunt?

Right, I know, it sounds bad right out of the gate. My Aunt died when an affair went wrong, he wanted to elope with her, and in a cocaine fueled rage, he shot her and then himself. She had five children. This all happened 15 years before I was born. It has directly impacted my life, however - my mother has always talked about her, my older sister was named after her.

I had no idea how she died, or that I had five cousins, until last year when I took it upon myself to look up old newspaper reports. See, she's burried under a tree by the cemetary, because her death was deemed too tainted by the devil for her to have a Christian burial in the church, so it's easy to find her grave.

It's a lot for me to think about. I normally work through, explore, and unpack issues in my life by writing out extensive stories which explore the themes and ideas - see, in the old American comic series, Knuckles dealt with a lot of generational trauma, finding out about random family members, and having things obscured by his parents because the conversations are "too difficult to have". It really helps me to write these things down through the lense of my favourite characters, I have for as long as I could write. The character Julie-Su, too, has a lot of secret family members, her life is thrown into turmoil to realise that the people she knows are actually family, such as Remington, who was the son of her dead brother. It's infinitely relatable.

I worry, however, is that disrespectful on my dead aunt? To compare her to one of Knuckles the Echidna's family members? Would it hurt my mother, if she ever found out?

I cannot talk to her about this, both as she doesn't want to talk about it, and I am estranged from my family as of my abusive father. The only time I have learnt anything about my aunt, is from my father drunkenly accidentally letting things slip, or from my older siblings.

So... I'm torn ... WIBTA for writing Sonic fanfiction about a real life tragedy that directly affects me? Not a fandom post, even though it feels like it ought to be one.

EXTREMELY MILD SONIC 3 SPOILERS (not that it matters, practically everyone but me has already watched it)

i haven't seen sonic 3 yet and it is a shame, but I heard that the spoiler was sonic cd related and I was fine with it at first but then I saw a post saying cd wouldn't be enough plot for a movie and they should mix it in with 06. After sitting in my brain for a bit, I agree, cd wouldn't be fulfilling enough for a whole movie, but I think they should do sonic rush instead of 06. 06 to me feels like it has enough story to be, IDK, the 5th movie maybe, and they would have all of the 5th movie to focus on silver, mephiles, etc, but should focus upon amy, metal and blaze in the 4th movie (more blaze then amy then metal) so blaze AND amy would be relatively developed for the next one. Amy would be introduced in the beginning, have some screen time, get to know the current cast, fall for and get rejected by sonic (I doubt they would make sonic have feelings for any right off the bat, sorry) then get kidnapped by metal, it then begins focusing on blaze, and eggman nega and such. Blaze could have a slightly more stretched out development with Sonic in their friendship but before that sonic and co. save amy so she can play her part in blaze's growth. Sonic teaches blaze about friendship, the final battle ensues and we could still get the ending of sonic rush and it ends with sonic and co. gaining a new member to their family and for the after credits scene they can put silver in. Blaze got her story, character growth, she can now go befriend silver, maybe slightly alter the 06 script so she isn't so.. useless? Is that the right word?

Yea IDK where to go from here but you can probably see where I'm going with this, and maybe this is too much to ask for, maybe I am too blaze biased for amy to shine. I really have no clue, I'm just a random ghost on tumble ig

So technically I started drawing comics when I was around 7 maybe?

Im in my 20s now. It was a bunch of sonic related stuff with random XD style plots, like visiting eggman at his base and shenanigans ensue--that or spyro related like @thatspyrocomic .

I had these bootleg sonic characters at some point, before I joined Deviant Art.

their personalities weren't like sonic or shadow, at all. It was the voice of reason "sam" and the sarcastic but caring one. I can't really remember them, but they kinda look like this:

I actually had this unfinished story I never posted about online, about a copy made of sonic, shadow and silver's DNA and created a biological android called Tytonic, like titanium or titanic sonic.

Tytonic.

Silver and salmony pink was a fucking bold choice on my part. He could grow a shield or attack with a spike hand and he had a mercury-like sheen with less shiney salmon parts.

I had a lot of OCs, I'll tell you guys after I get more pages done.

I don't remember much of the story anymore, but:

I think his deal was, if he touches you he can warp/steal your chaos energy, the same way sonic can use the chaos emeralds' power. It corrupts you or something and I remember sonic goes dark mode and shadow/silver have to fight him back to normal/trap him.

Tytonic gets the emeralds, but he betrays eggman when he realizes he cant harness their power, and without that, he'll die. He can't even store the power he steals from sonic, it just goes away as he uses it.

So he just starts consuming everything around him in eggman's lab, losing his mind, and prompting the doctor to beg sonic team for help.

Either way they defeat tytonic after he absorbs more power than he can handle, either through perfect chaos or shadow losing his inhibitors, but somehow he ends up ripped apart and turns to mercury-like goop--

Which eggman takes back to the lab, bumBUM BUUUUUUM sequel??????!

I think it would hurt shadow a lot, he would probably have tried to relate to him and get tytonic on their side. But he wouldnt have lasted anyway.

further spoilery reflections on the Rogue novelisation: post-audiobook random stuff edition

some things I enjoyed in the book that we didn't get in the show, though I see why we didn't:

the highly developed animosity between Ruby and Lord Stilton Barton, including her telling him "Don't hang out in a library unless you wanna get read" and standing him up in the middle of a quadrille, as a result of which he is actively planning to kill her

the description of the Doctor "giving the TARDIS a little comforting tap" in response to her indigestion groan

the Doctor ruthlessly breaking up Rogue's large weapon disseminator (variously described as his precious creation, his favourite gadget, etc) and using bits of it to reprogramme the trap (R: "I can't believe you broke my stuff!") - interesting that in this version Rogue is the one who's incautiously handing over his tech, rather than the Doctor handing over the sonic

the Doctor telling Rogue "Don't pout too much. When we're not trying to kill each other, we're a good team."

Rogue and the Doctor's dialogue in the garden after the Scandalous Gay Dancing/Fake Proposal OR WAS IT:

"Quite the show," Rogue said with a sly grin.

I hope someone is writing fic about Professor Sarsha Melenney of Capriskia University, the only survivor of the Chuldur invasion; my heart goes out to her. I like the grimness of this chapter, and how it moves from jokes about inheritance tax fraud to the way people would rather claim they'd been duped by a shapeshifter than "admit to being friends with, or related to, someone awful."

Ruby getting a stitch from "running about after eating all those finger sandwiches" and reflecting that you don't see that on tv

the Chuldur butler being fed up that not one person has accused him of murder, and being told it's the wrong era for it AGAIN (see tvtropes: The Butler Did It), and his pleasure when he finally gets to be the murderer (bumping off the vicar in order to perform the marriage)

more Duchess action, and the family tensions between her and [her annoying middle sister] Miss Emily Beckett, including the Duchess's plan to have a fling with Barton at her next event, "just to help her sister realise that their marriage was bogus" (& KH and BR generally having fun with poisonous family dynamics in this story)

in general, it feels as if Ruby gets more to do in the book than she does in the episode - there's more Ruby-and-Emily, more Ruby-and-Barton, more Ruby-and-the-Duchess. Ruby even makes sure nobody else gets killed by the Chuldur, at the point where Lord Frampton threatens to become "a grey-haired gentleman in a gold waistcoat" so that he can act as "father of the bride":

"Can we all stop messing about, please?" Ruby interrupted. "It's my wedding, and I want the Duchess to give me away." (at this point the Duchess still thinks Ruby is her annoying sister aka Emily, but she agrees to it anyway because she wants to be centre stage)

I am still happily cackling at the title and author of the book Ruby whacks Emily with :)

listening to the audiobook brings out different emphases, and changes the pace for me; there were other bits that made me laugh that I now can't remember, and some that made me have something in my eye...

Bringing this post back up because as hyped as I am and HAVE been for this movie for ages (Shadow is being unapologetically hot cool and it's a movie based on SA2/Shadow 05 what do you want from me), it's important to remember that Paramount is very much pro-Israel and has also snuck in Zionist propaganda in the Knuckles show as well (here's people way smarter than me breaking it down ). Love the art and not the artist but it's extremely important, now more than ever, to know the artist and what they stand for. You deserve to know who your money goes to and make an informed decision based on that knowledge, hence why I bring all this up again 9 days away from the movie's release.

For me? As much as it personally really kills me on the inside as someone who's been looking forward to this thing for so long, I won't be paying to watch it. Even without Reeves, the blatant Zionism oozing from Paramount makes me really hesitant. I'm just gonna bake something instead or whatever. "The YouTube album stream of Deathconsciousness was one of my favorite places to go when I was feeling down. Not just for the music, but for the people there. Back then, the comment section of the album was filled with people talking about their thoughts on the album, their interpretations, and most importantly: their own depression. Random strangers behind anonymous YouTube accounts pouring their hearts out for anyone else who happened to be into the depressive post-punk nightmare that is Deathconsciousness...For a while, it was a strangely beautiful place on the internet.

...I think this little subculture formed because Deathconsciousness is...an excellent sonic representation of the themes it covers. It's a post-punk album, absolutely, but it incorporates so many other elements that it doesn't really sound like many other post-punk releases out there. Even darker acts in the subgenre like The Cure or Joy Division have that dance element to them. Don't get me wrong, that's not totally absent from Deathconsciousness - just listen to the bass lines on 'Bloodhail' or the synths on 'Deep, Deep' for example. Instead of leaning fully into this element of post-punk, though, it's just a foundation. Catchy guitar riffs found on other post-punk records are replaced by ethereal shoegaze, the drumming is blown out and violent, there are long, meandering drones, the vocals are more reminiscent of early 2000s emo than any of the golden age post-punk bands, it's structured more like a post-rock album than anything punk related despite the rustic, DIY sound it utilizes. It sounds like a nightmare, but not one you run away from, one that you embrace and drown yourself in until nothing hurts you anymore." - RYM user zxcv1337x

i have tooons of wips in my google docs but i am wary of posting anything on ao3 that’s not a one shot/something i’m sure i’ll finish. one i think might be lost to time is my ladrien greek mythology wip💔

16. What are your writing strengths?

a lot of comments I get are related to prose/description so maybe that? I tend to spend a lot of time trying to pick out the exact right words for each sentence so that it has the sonic/rhythmic quality i'm going for. golden is probably the best example of this; I worked and reworked those sentences for many months until I was satisfied haha. I remember wanting it to feel sort of like the building of a song

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

my writing can be sort of dense and hard to get through sometimes!! I think I have a tendency to try and pack a lot into every sentence, which is fun for me to write, but can be difficult to get through as a reader. it's sort of the polar opposite to how I approach drawing silly comics, where the goal is to deliver the point/joke as clearly and effectively as possible. writing puts me in a much more contemplative headspace, which makes my fic not quite as digestable I think

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I admit i am guilty of peppering in random french words in ml fic whenever I feel like it 💔 I usually use italics though

What would movie Tails think about Tails Sails Mangey and Nine?

Hohoho...

Just to warn you in advance then, my answers will be a mixture of canon interpretation and headcanon.

Prime!Tails:

First impression:

I think in the case of Prime Tails, he'd largely see the similarities and be like "Oh! We're the same!" Whether it's a first meeting or meeting him from afar, I think he would have a healthy mix between seeing him literally as another him, while also wondering just how similar they actually are.

After getting to know him:

At this point, Movie!Tails would know just how similar and different he and Prime!Tails are. Ultimately though I think he'd be surprised by how similar they turned out in personality and image regardless. Other than that, I think Movie!Tails would be jealous that Prime!Tails' Sonic actually saved him from bullies and that they've been able to adventure and be best friends for so long. Movie!Tails would probably hope his relationship with Sonic could become as strong as theirs one day, while also taking it as a sign that it will be.

Sails:

First impression:

Definitely "A pirate me?" I think he'd wonder how Sails became a pirate or whether he was just kind of born into it. If they get a first meeting though, I think Movie!Tails' first impression would be that Sails is surprisingly nice for a pirate (not that Sails is usually nice to the first random people he meets (*cough* the first meeting with Sonic *cough*) but Movie!Tails doesn't know that). He would find him friendly, and he'd assume that Sails' contraption is exemplary of him still being a tech/mechanical guy in this universe.

After getting to know him:

I think he'd still consider Sails a pirate version of himself, but he'd see that Sails isn't necessarily a peach either. He's still a pirate, and he still itches for excitement, but he's also loyal to his crew and his friends, something that movie!Tails can respect.

Now, Prime never really gave us backstories for anyone other than some of the New Yoke variants. Personally, I like to headcanon that Sails was an outcast on his island, and he was in a bad spot when Dread first found him. I like to headcanon that post his initial failure to get the Devil's Lighthouse, he still couldn't ditch the sea life. So, though he wanted to put himself in a position where he'd never zero in on that treasure and hurt people again, he still needed a crew to continue the sea living. With this, the idea is that Dread picked up his crew members out of bad spots and offered for them to join his crew. Under this framework, my personal headcanon is that it was Dread that saved Sails (either by directly confronting his bullies or by taking him in while he was in poor spot health wise in the wake of his treatment as an outcast). If this was the case, I think Movie!Tails would be surprised at the knowledge that this world doesn't have a Sonic, but he'd definitely be able to relate to Sails. I think he'd be able to understand why being a pirate on the Angel's Voyage is home to him by relating the similarities in their lives.

Anyhow, the tech/mechanics thing. With getting to know him, Movie!Tails would find out (as Sonic did) where his strengths lay. Sails has a natural talent for it of course, but he gets his start in "contraption making". His world does not have the same technology as Movie!Tails' world.

Mangey:

First impression:

I must admit, if he watches how Mangey acts out of context, his first impression would probably be that Mangey is "me but crazy" or have questions about his intelligence level. As long as Movie!Tails doesn't present himself as a threat and make a bad first impression on Mangey, though, in a first meeting he'd probably thing of Mangey as a sweet little thing.

After getting to know him:

If you spend a while with Mangey you get to understand who he is and his situation better, and Movie!Tails is no exception to this. He may even feel a bit ashamed for assuming that Mangey was "crazy" or "savage". While he can't personally relate with Mangey quite as well as he could with the others, I think he'd still be able to relate with that idea of having found home. I also think he'd logically end up learning of Mangey's inate technological talent as well and would patiently learn how to communicate with him. Not that any of that is easy, it's just that I think at some point Movie!Tails would "see the signs" so to speak and realize that even though Mangey is different and life is different for people here in general, he's still a person with thoughts and feelings. I can also see him apologizing for how he initially saw and/or treated Mangey.

Nine:

First impression:

It depends upon what era of Nine's life Movie!Tails sees him in or meets him in. In general though, I think he would see Nine as "me but a villain" at worst, and "bad end me" at best. Nine is a version of himself who is isolated and also doesn't have a Sonic, so though Movie!Tails' opinions are dependent on how much knows at this point, I can see him at baseline feeling a bit sorry for Nine. Even if he thinks Nine is a bad guy who caused all of these problems, I think he would baseline feel sorry after imagining a possibility in which Nine was him.

Idk. Like I said his opinions would be very context heavy. If his first impression was like. S3 Nine at his worst, I can see him sort of shutting down the empathy center and just seeing him as a bad guy. But if he's just seeing him pre-meeting Sonic, being bullied or trying to stay isolated, he would just straight up feel bad for his living situation. It's...nuanced.

After getting to know him:

I think in a way the level to which he relates to Nine would be a little scary. It wasn't scary with Prime!Tails because the two aren't terribly different on the surface. Just two people who met Sonic and became heroes in a bit of a different way.

But if he learns Nine's story, where Prime!Tails' story is interesting in it's similarities and differences, a story that holds shared happiness in finding someone like Sonic to look up to and relate to, Nine's story is more terrifying in the ways Movie!Tails relates. In its most basic and shallow form, Nine's backstory is exemplary of what would happen if there was no Sonic (or if there was no one who would save Tails from bullies or inspire him). Even before meeting Movie!Sonic, Movie!Tails was already a tech and mechanical guy. We know he straight up had traps and weapons in his backpack, he'd developed the Miles Electric, and could fly a plane. With Nine's story as reference, I personally headcanon that if Movie!Tails hadn't started watching Movie!Sonic live and become fixated on him as someone he could relate to, he would have had a similar end as Nine (code: just trying to isolate himself from others so he won't be hurt again).

Essentially, I think that if Movie!Tails got to know Nine's story, it would probably shake him to see what might have happened had he never learned about Sonic, and had he eventually taken it upon himself to get rid of his bullies permanently. And I think if he knew how things turned out for Nine by the end of Sonic Prime, he would feel very sorry for him (both for his great loneliness and in not being able to be around Sonic or really, truly at home).

In other words, complicated feelings. Nine's reality would probably make him feel uncomfortable, but in the end, Movie!Tails would want for him to be happy and truly "home" as well.

Thank you for the ask, anon! While I see most versions of Tails as surprisingly judgy (surprisingly in the way that they can be a bit surface level and dependent on first impressions), I think especially when it comes to other versions of himself Movie!Tails would become more sympathetic or empathetic upon actually getting to know them. And since none of these four are really bad guys at the end of the day, I think he'd be willing to see them subvert his initial impressions of them.

•Introduction Post•

Actually, ima just start actually doing this post to get some stuff organized.

First off,

Hi

I'm making my interaction now because i didn't really think of one from the beginning.

But to just start off- i make drawings and some other stuff like animation, but i rarely ever do them at times.

At the current moment, i am obsessed with sonic and might draw sonic related stuff a lot, but i also draw my attention to other fandoms too like sonic.exe, possibly pokemon, mickey, fnf, Jsab, and some others and maybe my OCs and AUs, too (of course not in this specific order though).

I mostly use my phone and finger to draw, but there will be times where i draw on my tablet.

I'll probably be active a bit more, but there will be times that I'm not, I'm pretty sure that's obvious, but it's just to let ya'll know n' all. But i might draw on my phone on the weekdays, and in the weekends, I'll try to do a complete drawing on my tablet, because usually that sometimes takes days depending if i get distracted, (though, note there will be times i post some of my art from there since there's a lot of drawings that are kind of a few months old now, or somewhere in 2021 when i did them).

But yea, not too much to say about me, this is just an introduction post that I'll pin for any newcomers, that's all.
