was talking to a friend about how the last piece of genshin merch i ever got was a print of albedo and his clone (from back when the plant albedo event was still,, fresh) and had the extremely abrupt realisation that a. my current obsession with clones and the associated horror tropes started WAY earlier than i thought b. "'imperfect' clone harbouring resentment towards 'perfect' original clone who's also an artificial human, just better made" is literally the backstory to one of my ocs. what the fuck???
#asto speaks#have i been subconsciously taking writing inspiration from genshin of all things this entire time???????????????????#i got that print after i stopped playing genshin too. the power that clone media has over me is just That Strong#genuinely felt like i got hit in the face when i was like#'oh yeah this is the last genshin thing i saw that broke through the 'im not playing the game anymore BUT'. and its a guy and his clone- oh#like ive been noticing this for a while. theres something about media with multiple versions of the same character interacting#that immediately makes my brain go awooga#orvs great for this obviously. hsy selfcest era etc etc#one of the main appeals of 1000xResist to me was the clone. horror? and it sure delivered#omori also to some extent#limbus company yi sang selfcest for the most recent iteration of this#i just cant believe it started so early like i genuinely thought orv caused all of this. but no#'youre favourite character from genshin was also an artificial human and your favourite event w him is the one about another clone' blast#for the record i dont remember the plot to like ANY other genshin event. i barely remember the plot of the main story#but no. brain saw clone and went awooga#what the fuck man.

I think SLARPG might unironically be the best entry in the "Earthbound-inspired indie RPG about depression" subgenre because it's the only one that legitimately sparked my interest on first sight and then followed through in actual gameplay and story. Personally, what's your favorite game in the "Earthbound-inspired indie RPG about depression" subgenre aside from the one you made?
Excuse you, I'll have you know it's an EarthBound-inspired indie RPG about anxiety, thank you very much
No, but idk. Mother is definitely a big influence for me, and EarthBound and Mother 3 are two of my favorite games ever made, but I think it's easy to overstate how much I was trying to emulate Mother with SLARPG in a reductive way. (I don't necessarily think you're being reductive in this ask, I'm just using this as an excuse to talk about a broader trend.) It broadly influenced the types of games I wanted to make when I was a teenager, but there are very few specific elements in SLARPG where I was trying to directly evoke or mimic EarthBound. The geometric spell animations were inspired by Mother for sure, I'll give you that, but half the reason I did that was just because it was easier than animating realistic effects frame by frame. I'll also admit that Claire building her own dungeon was almost definitely influenced by EarthBound's Brick Road, but I don't think that was a conscious decision on my part. And hell, some things that may come off as nods to Mother are, in fact, things that Mother took directly from Dragon Quest. Silly, cartoonish enemies with pun names? That's a Dragon Quest thing!
While Mother was one of my influences, I would just as readily point to classic Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, the Mario RPGs, 2D Zelda, Mega Man Legends, Pokemon, Kirby, Sonic, comedic point and click adventures, and a bunch of other things as similarly big influences. But I wasn't trying to mimic any of these 1:1. It was a blend of different influences along with my own creative goals.
Uh, anyway, to answer your actual question: I can't answer your actual question, because I haven't really played other "EarthBound-inspired" indie games, other than Undertale and Deltarune (which I adore, obviously). I generally avoided playing them while working on SLARPG because I wanted to do my own thing and avoid ripping off other similar games, and then in the time since finishing SLARPG I've just always had other things I wanted to play.
Also I kind of don't believe that the "EarthBound-inspired indie RPG about depression" is a trend that exists on any meaningful scale. People just looked at Omori (and, to a lesser extent, YIIK) and decided that the other popular indie games with some amount of visible EarthBound influence must also be about depression. It's just a meme

Kiss
Flowers
Extra thoughts cus I like typing :))))
Kiss - Wanted to not have it on the lips, both to save my skin cus I don't trust myself with drawing that. Also I will forever have my personal headcanon Byakuya hating that kind of kissing cus saliva is grody to him. I am totally not projecting here to some extent. Also, I feel he totally complained after Makoto pulled this stunt cus of course he did. Makoto's used to him being a bit of a whiny bastard though so he didn't take it to heart. Also, cus it caused me so much redraw pain, just Byakuya's eyes. I dunno why they were so tricky for me to get and I'm still mixed on how I drew them in the final but still! So many redraws on the eyes. Specifically the one closer to Makoto cus it just looked off and I wanted to avoid it hitting a tangent line wear Makoto's hair meets Byakuya's face. Ah, tangent lines. How you make me die just a little inside.
Flowers - The sketch makes me so happy. I would have left it as just the sketch but I rendered it which took way longer than the other drawing because my set up isn't the best and flower crown. So many flowers ;-; Damn was it worth it though. The color choice and sketchiness is giving subtle Omori vibes too which makes sense since I AM still playing the game. It was bound to bleed in somewhere. Also, I had to show it plus a little doodle I made since they're in each other's arms and could totally use it against the other. Makoto is literally holding the heir's face. Byakuya has his hands around Makoto's waist. It is but an inevitable. It kind a just looks like a goofier version of the first sketch though since subtle details like that are hard. Though, at the same time, Byakuya looks like Makoto told him the funniest joke in the world so I count that as a win even if it's not what I was going for. The guy looks like he's laughing like an Animal Crossing villager. Meanwhile, Makoto's giving out the most precious giggle ever and mmmm my heart. Why do I do this to myself?! One last detail I wanna note is that yup. The everlasting bracelets are back! This time, Makoto is clearly wearing his. Gosh. Even though those bracelets are probably SO hard to match outfits with since they're red and gold colored, it's so cute drawing them with them on. It warms my heart so freaking much. These dorks! Edit: I totally didn't edit some parts cus I wanted to gush more about my art. Like, I promise I'm not self absorbed even though saying that just makes it look worse ( ;﹏; )

hi guys. i don't like to make posts like this but i figure i'd just want to clear some things up
first things first, i do not support OMOCAT and please get off my page if you do.
i know a lot of people are going to tell me that it was a long time ago. and i know. i know that people change and i do have faith that OMOCAT doesn't do the stuff she did anymore, but that isn't my problem
if you aren't aware of the extent of what she's said, it wasn't just the shota shirt. here are some ss of deleted tweets from 2012-2014.
if you're wondering, she has made an apology about the shirt she made about a year after she released it, stating that the definition had changed since then and she felt it was no longer appropriate
basically her whole thing was that it didn't mean that to her, and that it just meant little boy
and, to be quite honest, in this situation i don't care what 'shota' means, because either way it doesn't make her look any better. making a shirt with a picture of an anime boy with the words 'little boy' on it isn't much of an improvement.
and what's worse is her tweets. again, 'little boy underwear' doesn't sound any better than 'shota underwear'. in her tweet as of nov 2013, BEFORE the shirt was removed, she made the tweet that said,
'what does shota mean' 'uh'
i feel this pretty much implies that she knows in a lot of circumstances it has some sort of sexual connotation to it. and the tweet about people flipping their shit when they see her shota underwear???
a grown woman tweeting about 'how she doesn't like *all* little boys but thinking about her 3rd grade crush makes her flustered* is just straight out pedophilia, u cannot deny that this is weird af
i dislike cancel culture. i don't think people should have their lives ruined for making mistakes, but this was not a mistake. saying 'omori is hot wow good shota' about a 12 year old character she created isn't really something u can just bounce back from imo
the thing about the underwear and her apology only being about the shirt is the most gross to me. i think it's apparent that even if she didn't think shota is an erotic word, she obviously knew that other people felt it was and these were her responses.
i'm just posting all of this because i think people seriously underestimate the situation,, and i also don't want anyone thinking i support her in any way. i love OMORI with all of my heart and it rlly sucks to see the creator of it say this kind of shit
again, i know it was a long time ago but the thing is she never apologized for the tweets (as far as i'm aware) and only for the shirt, which ngl was kind of half-assed considering she only said 'i didn't know what it meant' (either way, in what world is selling a shirt that says 'little boy' on it reasonable?)
i don't want to reach, but i think her treatment of HERO in the game is also questionable. the adult women in the game fawn over him and SWEETHEART literally preys on him??? and the way the slime girls treat the boys is questionable imo. i wouldn't say this about a normal game but considering OMOCATs history this is strange to me.
anyways ill wrap this up by saying please do not interact if you support omocat!!

PROPAGANDA
Basil
In Omori, Basil used to be your best friend up until the tragic events 4 years ago, where Sunny accidentally pushed his sister Mari down the stairs. Basil was the one who found Sunny action-paralyzed, realising that his sister was dead because of him. Basil panicked, thinking the police would take his best friend away forever. Thus, he orchestrated making it look like Mari hung herself, worsening the events of the game. Pretty fucked up stuff. Did I mention both Sunny and Basil were 12 years old at the time? Basil is often portrayed as either irrevocably evil or a pure soul who did nothing wrong. Both of these interpretations ignore the central issue that he COVERED UP A POTENTIAL MURDER because he was 12 AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. Prior to meeting Sunny and his group of friends, Basil was said to be isolated and alone. Finally creating this connection with others seemed to have made him terrified to lose these connections, and he's portrayed throughout the game to be haunted by guilt and characterized by his loneliness and fear of losing his friends, but especially his best friend, Sunny. He seems to understand now that he's older that the whole situation was incredibly wrong, and lives in denial mostly about his friend's hand in the events. Nothing seems to suggest that he doesn't realize what he himself did was wrong by the time of the game. He doesn't speak up, though, for the player's sake. After all, Basil has no idea that Mari's death was an accident, and Sunny has retracted into himself and refused to communicate on the issue. The creator themselves descriped the character like this: "OMOCAT describes BASIL as caring and thoughtful in regards to the friends he so deeply cherishes. However, his loneliness and insecurities are what make him dependent on others, sometimes to a dangerous extent." "In fact, OMOCAT adds that BASIL feels deep emotions for those he cares about, and this sometimes places him in situations where he unintentionally hurts others and himself." An additional moment that occassionally garners criticism, is that sometime in the course of those 4 years, Basil marked out Mari's face from his photo album, which he kept of him and all of his friends. This creates conflict between him and another character in-universe. What many fans seem to miss about this issue is that Basil himself is engaging in the same destructive tendency that most of the other characters also are - trying to deal with overwhelming pain with some form of denial and alienation of his old relationships. At no point is there shown any sort of hostility towards Mari from him as a character. Basil is overall a character who used to be a pure small bean but ended up doing something incredibly serious because he was a scared child, unable to deal with the situation at hand rationally. The horrendous guilt and consequences of the tragedy that happened when everyone were too young to process it make up the central themes of the game. By trying to morally simplify Basil's actions, we're also ignoring the overall point of the story; The deeprooted consequences of something extremely traumatic happening to children at an age where they're not able to handle it, and the permanent consequences it's going to have on their lives going forwards.
There's definitely a chunk of the fandom that likes to over-villianize Basil, I suspect to make the main character seem better. A lot of them say Basil forced Sunny into doing something bad, which given what we know about Basil's character seems highly unlikely. And they also give him a lot of flack for (admittedly bad) actions he takes during a mental health crisis.
Yuno Kashiki
She's far more morally grey than folks want to admit. She's not evil, not by a long shot, but she's not exactly innocent either. She's innocent of her (perceived) crime in her media, but in terms of her attitude and outlook on life, I feel people downplay her incredibly grey actions. She uses / used compensated dating as a way to feel "warm" without forming emotional attachments. She hasn't killed anyone, nor has she manipulated anyone into killing for her, but that's why she's a good representative of a more everyday morally grey person. Her actions aren't outlandish or extreme, and if anything she can fade into the background with relative ease, yet I still firmly believe she's morally grey. tldr; Yuno has far more depth than the (general) fandom sees her as having. She gets misrepresented and her voice as a character is often unheard.
Yuno Kashiki is an 18 year old rental girlfriend and sexworker in Japan. She was incarcerated in Milgram for murder at the start of the series in 2020. Since then she has been repeatedly dehumanized by the fandom. Having her agency and statements on her own life overwhelmingly ignored in order to give her a sob story she has consistently rebuked at every turn. Stating from the beginning even if she had to beg for forgiveness like her life depended on it she would. However, it's simply been handed to her as the audience continually goes she was too young and stupid to actually be held accountable for her actions. The same audience that later tries to vote a 12 year old child abuse victim guilty because she has to learn her lesson and she knew what she was doing. Yes the fandom interprets the eighteen year old who chose to work in the profession they did simply because they wanted to something they have no qualms admitting as having less agency than the twelve year old. They treat her like a stupid baby who's only error was not knowing how a condom worked as a sexworker. They say her only crime is an abortion despite her overtly getting upset at other individuals alluded to be clients throughout her songs. Having the literal lyrics of her second song go, ""Poor naive little girl"? So off the mark, what's it to you? It's absurd. Like really who do you think you are? Don't weigh me meassure me against your morality. Just shut it, will you? You know it all." And "Carrssing me with your "good girl". Who needs your self-righteous pardon?" They're so committed to the abortion equating to the murder she's in here for idea that fans got mad at the writer for even writing it that way when at least several other very not fetuses are alluded to throughout her songs and at points literally shown. Her first song even highlighting her clients belongings throughout it with inverted coloring. But instead of thinking she may have just killed a client who was bothering her they've convinced themselves that she's just a silly little outlier who's not meant to be here because abortion isn't murder her body her choice which fair if it wasn't for the fact the only people putting it on the table to compare to murder is the audience themselves. Despite everyone else in here very literally killing actual people with lives, professions, etc as they frame her case as a feminism issue and say if you vote her guilty you just hate women or are anti-abortion. In response to the framing of her situation as she can hear the audiences thoughts on her she's only gotten more depressed and closed off as tge series has progressed blatantly stating to hurry all this up so she can go home. Because it doesn't matter what she says about her situation the audience and the guard by proxy will just end up creating whatever story they want about her so it doesn't matter she's over it. Which in all honesty fucking fair- Wouldn't anyone be after getting treated like that for going on four years.

OOC FAQ
(This is for information about me, the blog admin. For Sunny, check out the About Me post, linked at the top. Or read anything else on the blog, lol)
Hi, who are you?
I'm the admin behind faraway-sunshine, this Sunny askblog. I go by He/Him pronouns. Currently I'm 17, so a minor, but I'll be 18 in less than a year.
What made you start this blog?
I have some experience running askblogs before, particularly in the Undertale/Deltarune fandom. I was creatively burnt out when I finally played Omori and fell in deep.
I've had some mental health struggles before, though not to Sunny's extent, thank goodness. I'm still on a road to recovery though.
Why is there a date at the bottom of every Sunny post?
I headcanon the events of the game to take place in mid-to-late June, 2000. When I made this blog at the end of July, I thought it'd be fun to have it sync with the real-world clock minus 24 years. It's honestly such a help for my creativity at times, and keeps things moving.
My headcanon also places Sunny in the Eastern Standard time zone, on the east coast of America. I don't live in America, I'm in New Zealand, so sometimes I schedule posts to appear in a better time. Most of the time though I can work without that.
This also means I don't know what it's actually like living through those times, so I do a bunch of research and may take a few liberties. At least Sunny's probably not the most up to date with the times himself!
Does this mean you'll handle X topic in the way they would have back then?
Short answer: It varies.
Long answer: Sometimes. My general rule of thumb is to link it back to experiences and frustrations still present now; for instance, the annoyance of not being taken seriously in therapy or not knowing how to tell the difference between a crush and someone you admire platonically.
Although I'm neurodivergent and LGBTQ, I'm not a racial or cultural minority, so I try not to deal with the negative side of those topics as much due to not wanting to represent it falsely.
This does mean I might use some outdated language at times, such as referring to part of the autistic spectrum as Asperger's or DID as MPD. Those are very brief though, as I don't like putting a huge load on a label.
I also promise not to use any slurs, even those I might reclaim, or to turn discriminatory violence into a major plot point.
Wait, "plot point"?
Sunny has a life outside the blog, and I have a rough calendar of events that occur to him. There's a few special ones that happened before, such as a couple sleepovers and his first day back at school.
Events are interactive in that you can react to them, but not in that I often have an idea of how things go on that's hard to sway. It's not impossible to change that ending though!
I have another question.
Send it in! No, seriously. Just mark it as being for the admin in some way and I'll answer.
What happened to Anon?
Unfortunately for now I've had to disable it thanks to people spamming it and me being unable to block the spammer due to them being anonymous. I might consider bringing it back in future, but for now, if you want to ask an anonymous question add in the ask that you don't want followers to see you and I'll scrub your username off.

Headspace Basil and Stranger: A Character Analysis
Hey everyone! I've noticed a bit that everyone seems to have different ideas on what Stranger (and Headspace Basil to a lesser extent) actually represent, so I wanted to put my own interpretation out there. This post may be a little contentious, I'm not sure. Major Omori Spoilers ahead.
"When you hid the truth, you sealed a part of me away with it. He's been waiting for someone to save him all this time. On that day... when you became nothing... I was split in half. Which one do you think was more painful?"
This line is the best thing the game gives us to actually explaining what exactly Stranger is. It's... incredibly up to interpretation, like a lot of Omori, but it gives us a place to start. It implies that Headspace Basil and Stranger are two halves of the same whole, not that that idea is farfetched without this line. I often see the idea that Stranger is the manifestation of Basil's thoughts following Sunny into his dreams, but I personally think that the white egret orchids are more of a metaphorical representation of how Basil would tell Sunny everything, and how those things about Basil are readily apparent in the foundation of Headspace. I really don't think that this line of dialogue as a whole makes all that much sense in that interpretation.
I also see the interpretation floated around that Stranger represents the darker aspects of Basil's character, or the parts that Sunny didn't like, and while I think that this gets closer to the truth, it misses the point of why Basil has been split up in Sunny's mind to begin with.
Everything about Headspace is meant to distract Sunny from his guilt. But what happened to Mari isn't the only thing that Sunny is guilty for. Sunny also holds guilt for breaking his promise to Basil and choosing to shut him out and forget himself. But he's also too attached to Basil to get rid of him completely, so his mind copes with this by attempting to cut out all the things about Basil that serve as a reminder that Basil and Sunny have a special bond, and that the real Basil has been left alone when he needed Sunny the most.
This does include some of the darker aspects of Basil's character. Things like a reference to Basil having to go to the bathroom being cut out of the Headspace photo album show this, as everywhere else in the game, Basil "going to the bathroom" serves to tell the player that he's actually excusing himself to panic in private.
However, we also don't get to find out about what Basil actually said about white tulips in regards to Sunny until it's Stranger saying it, and no Basil inside of Sunny's head ever calls Sunny/Omori his best friend until you lead Stranger to the Basil that has seen the truth in the Sunny route. In the hikikomori route especially, we see that Sunny has made it so Basil confides in all of their friends, rather than just Sunny, and in the same way, his mind makes it so the entire group knows about his phobias that came from the Lake Incident, despite implications that it was only actually Basil that knew about those in the real world.
We even get all of the friends getting excited about Basil taking pictures when they least expect it and wanting to see the pictures for themselves in Headspace, when Memory Lane actually shows Aubrey (and Kel, in a more joking manner) being somewhat uncomfortable with moments of Basil doing this in the Beach and Treehouse memories respectively, and Sunny is the only one seen to ask Basil if he can look at his pictures at all, even when Aubrey actually asked him to take the picture.
For this reason, I don't think that Headspace Basil is "idealized", at least not in the same way that everyone else is. I would imagine that Sunny's mind would not cut out this closeness from his "ideal" version of Basil.
Nowhere is this more apparent than in Black Space. Whenever a version of Basil remembers something from their past, what he actually says in those areas tends to downplay Sunny and Basil's bond.
In the Watermelon Area, you get Basil remembering the trip to the beach, but he only talks about Kel having watermelon seeds on his face.
In the Spider Area, you of course get the memory of Sunny telling him about the spider that landed on his shoulder during his lake incident, but Basil downplays Sunny's fear of spiders in a way that wouldn't really seem all that in character for the real world Basil to talk about the Lake Incident and Sunny's fears, but it is exactly how Basil talks about Hero's fear of spiders at the end of the hikikomori route.
In the Treehouse Area, the first thing Basil asks Omori is "Are KEL, AUBREY, and HERO here too?", and how much he's missed all of them, before talking about how hard they all worked on the treehouse.
In the Raft Area, the specific memory that Basil gets back isn't immediately apparent. However, his line about Omori acting "kind of cold" is particularly interesting. We could either take this as him remembering how Sunny used to interact with him compared to the empty shell that is Omori, or we could take this as Omori starting to get annoyed at Basil's constant recollection of things that he isn't supposed to be bringing up. However, the real meat of both this area and the previous area is that Basil tries to confide in Omori. In the Treehouse Area, he asks if he can share something with Omori with a nervous smile, while in the Raft Area, he wants to talk about something that is bothering him.
Most people assume that what Basil is trying to talk about is The Truth, but I think this is incorrect. There is only one Basil that has seen the truth, and that Basil is waiting for you in the Church of Something in the Sunny route. These Basils also aren't previous versions of Basil that have seen the truth and were banished to Black Space, as we can see that those previous Basils were killed and left in Red Space, just like the one at the end of the Sunny route. Finally, there is still dialogue in the game's code that shows that the Basils in Black Space originally were constantly trying to bring up the Truth, showing that this was specifically modified for the final release. Now, what he was actually going to bring up in either case is unknown, and I don't think it really matters all that much. Each of these Basils are reminding Sunny both of their bond and of a past that no longer exists.
Presumably, this is the original Spider Area Dialogue.
Finally, we come to the Neighbor Area. Here, Basil references Omori having to save him all the time. He remembers that his photo album should have more pictures than it does in Headspace, and he rushes ahead when he notices Hero nearby. I think the first thing is interesting, though I don't personally believe that it is implying that each Basil in Black Space is intended to be the same Basil. Instead, I think it references how Basil has just generally been turned into a bit of a "damsel in distress" figure, even outside of the main plot, as seen when he gets kidnapped by Boss in the beginning of the game.
Generally speaking, Basil in these areas is acting as if he and Omori are no closer than the rest of the group. He still looks up to Omori, but Basil in both the real world and Headspace is shown to look up to all of his friends. The way that Basil puts all of his friends on a pedestal is not something that reminds Sunny of his close bond with Basil in particular, so the Headspace version of Basil still keeps this trait.
Contrast this with how Stranger is presented throughout Black Space. Unlike Headspace Basil, he doesn't have that cheerful, if a little nervous, demeanor. He is fully aware of Headspace and Black Space. Like the real Basil, he is aware of the truth, but is unable to reference it directly, due to Sunny's mind having repressed it so deeply. He's a bit cold in the way he speaks to Sunny, unlike Headspace Basil, but when you actually read his dialogue, it's almost always comes back to how close the two are:
"The truth that you've locked away... You must find it no matter what. You have to... for the both of us."
"I miss you, SUNNY. You were always someone I could depend on to listen. My problems... my hopes... my dreams... You knew them all. So if you're still there... please let my words reach you one more time."
"Is there still hope left for us, SUNNY?"
"Back then... I wanted to save what was left. But even after everything... you left me, SUNNY... I waited so long for you to come back. Even seeing you now... It's hard to think straight. I can feel my heart hurting and I want to cover my face and hide. There are so many things I want to say to you... but the words won't come out. I just... I waited so long for you too come back, SUNNY... but... you never did."
"SUNNY... The truth is here. You've been running from this for so long. But this time, we can face it together."
Even in the hikikomori route, where we see Stranger at his most vengeful, he reminds Sunny about all the times that Basil continued to try and reach out after Sunny shut him out.
That's not to say that Stranger is the "real" Basil. Both Stranger and Headspace Basil are two halves of how Sunny sees Basil, and it's when they combine that we truly see the truth. In the same way that Headspace Basil never calls Omori his best friend until merging with Stranger, Stranger never asks for forgiveness for how Basil's actions affected Sunny until they combine, because that general personality that Headspace Basil has is still part of how Sunny sees the real Basil. Neither is truly an accurate representation of the way Sunny sees Basil.
And there are some more things to keep in mind about this. Post Hikikomori route, you have Basil giving Omori the flower crown, as well as the Basil Rush. This actually reveals a bit of a conflict within Sunny's mind. He desperately wants Basil around, and without the truth being apparent, they will naturally be drawn together for the same reasons they were so close in real life. But the flower crown and Basil Rush ultimately end up forcing Sunny to confront the memory of the truth, showing that even this was too much.
TLDR; Stranger, to me, represents the aspects of Basil that are reminders of what Sunny did the night of the accident, as well as the aspects of Basil that would remind Sunny of how close the two are, so that Sunny can try to avoid his guilt for leaving Basil alone with the burden of the truth. This explains the dichotomy between HS Basil's cheerful demeanor with less of a focus on Sunny specifically and Stranger's more cold and harsh personality that consistently provides reminders of both the existence of the truth and how close Basil and Sunny are specifically. Neither are completely accurate, resulting in neither Basil apologizing to Sunny or calling Sunny his best friend until the two merge.
#omori#omori analysis#omori spoilers#stranger#headspace#sunny#basil#character analysis#and to be fair I think a lot of this is intended to be pretty vague and up for interpretation#I can't exactly disprove that there's something paranormal going on with some of the stuff that happens in the game#but if Stranger were intended to be a representation of the real Basil I feel that his dialogue would change a bit more from route to route

You speak of what you dislike about the characters in Omori a lot, how about something you like about them? Who's your favorite character?
I like the characters' potential, mostly. The execution renders them all so hollow I can't recall anything of note about them that would not be something I dislike, though.
ig Omori is the only character I can say I kinda like, and even then it's purely because he's the only one who properly calls Sunny out for his shitty behavior. I also pity Basil to some extent since he's the game's punching bag, so here's that.
#omori#omori character#omori omori#(because that is a tag. apparently.)#omori basil#basil omori#tfw the writing is so Peak that the only more-or-less rational character in the entire game is the protag's suicidal self-loathing

Should I make a side blog for non-Omori related things? I don't want you guys to wonder why I haven't been posting, It's not like I hate you guys, I love you guys to the bottom of my heart for even liking my art content and even going to the extent of FOLLOWING me for that, I just haven't been much Omori stuff recently because i've been doing some silly stuff with friends,,,
I also have been wanting to post an Oc, or Persona, whatever you'd call it, but I fear that you guys don't particularly want to see that,,,and I don't want to bother you guys with it....
So i've been thinking of making a side blog for like,,,OCs and stuff, just random art things I suppose,,,

Got a spin wheel to randomize all the omori characters roles! Here’s what I got :)
Basil takes Sunny’s role
Kel takes basils role
Aubrey takes kel’s role
Mari takes Aubrey’s role
Sunny takes hero’s role (maybe he goes to a private boarding school or smth instead of like college)
Hero take’s Mari’s role
I’ll probably come up with actual ideas for this later lol
Oh, now this is all levels of crazy, but I really like it :O
Basil is the 4 year shut in with Headspace. And having the unhealthy fascination with sharp objects (specifically garden sheers lol) Also, why can I see one of the neutral ending deaths being Basil eating like, plant poison or something??
Kel was the witness of whatever accident takes place in this AU (Oh god, Kel helping to cover up his own brother's accidental murder at the hands of Basil 0.0 because at least in canon, Sunny didn't frame Mari's death due to him disassociating. Basil was the one who did)
Hero was the said victim of the accident, him being the one dead. His grave having an egret orchid along with Blue and White Roses ;w; Altho for the spirit segments, it's interesting to see Hero's ghost help Basil with confronting the Truth. 🤔
Aubrey doing her best to be the groups emotional support, her still being her cheery and bubbily self to an extent and being the one to knock on Basil's door to get him out.
Mari, with Hero's death utterly crushing her, goes full deliquent as a form of coping and maybe she joins up with the hooligans through Vance? (I say him because he's closer to her age range than the other hooligans are- him only being 2 years younger)
And then Sunny is off at maybe art school possibly due to Mari's educational potential hitting rock bottom after Hero's death. Perhaps the Dad still leaves due to dissapointment and the mom scrapes together all the money she can get to ensure Sunny got into a good Art School/Academy?
This is, again, crazy sounding BUT and interesting spin I've yet to see before- I might even wanna mess around with some possible doodles 👀

#1 flower fan here. does she die in the Worst ending. i need to know
a number one fan?! wow! it’s an honor to meet you…
Flower has a different fate depending on endings, though of course it doesn’t impact the actual game, much as the future or the other side characters post game.
True ending/Basil & Sunny smile: Flower has a weight lifted off of her shoulders, and no longer has to pretend nothings happened. She is able to move on, opens up more to Basil, and it’s a happy ending :) she’s able to work towards complete forgiveness, but also makes sure to get Basil into therapy when she can afford it, and tries really hard to repair their bond. She probably, with the help of Polly, is able to get back into college- being that she dropped out to work at Fix-It’s and earn extra money for her family. Later in life, when she’s much older, she works at the local elementary school as a kindergarten teacher :)
Sunny ending/No Basil smile: Flower was never prepared for this information, and ends up going into a bit of a mental spiral post-game. There’s two versions of this- one in which she lives but never completely reforges her bond with Basil or the others, and the other in which the spiral gets too bad, leading to impulsive actions that ultimately end in suicide. I consider this to be the ‘Neutral route’ for Flower’s story, even if it’s still ‘good’ in game.
All Basil dies endings: Similar to the Sunny ending, she doesn’t connect with the group especially well. She tries to be there so no more kids die, but she’s pretty emotionally distant… That was her precious baby brother. She goes back to school to become a Psychiatrist, in hopes she can prevent the early demise of others.
All Sunny dies endings: She grieves really hard. If Basil’s still alive, she gets 10x more protective… which is saying something. She drops out of college permanently and continues to live in her Grandma’s old house ‘til she dies. She manages Mari, Sunny graves (& Basil’s, in instances he’s dead too). She feels wholly responsible for it all.
Her thought process is basically;
- She should’ve gone with Basil to see Mari that night.
- She should’ve spent less time grieving. If she hadn’t been so caught up in her own problems, maybe she could’ve focused on making sure the boys were okay.
- She knew from day 1. She didn’t say anything to protect Basil. (& Sunny, to an extent- though she has some unresolved inner conflict about that issue.) But was it worth it to hold their secret?
I can’t think if I’m missing any endings by these generalizations… but hopefully not!
tl;dr—
(Secret) Good ending/Basil end: ALIVE!
(Basic) Good ending 1: ALIVE!
(Basic) Good ending 2: DEAD!
Neutral ending: ALIVE & VERY SAD!
Abandonment route: ALIVE & VERY SAD!
Bad ending: ALIVE & VERY SAD!
Omori route: ALIVE & VERY SAD!
…wow, kinda seeing a pattern here. call me crazy!

one thing i think is really interesting in omori is sweethearts character. like at first glance i didnt really think that deeply about her since headspace is this kids fantasy and she seemed just like any cartoon-y villain who gets what she wants and is really rude to people (A/N: I came up w a lot of this as I went and I wrote this on the bus so idk if things in here are 100% accurate)
the first interesting thing is in her lovers. Firstly we have Rococo who is said to have fought a lot with Sweetheart. Captain Spaceboy, when treated badly, seems to have fought back to some degree (In the space ex-husband fight his reaction to all the angry memories being "How dare she treat me that way!"). Finally we have Hero who seems to be the first person who didn't "worship" Sweetheart. She also has a tendancy to get bored of relationships very easy, or at least move on from them.
Still, she seems to want to fall in love, she wants to get married.
Sweetheart is also the main hindrance in our search for Basil. It is a villain created by Omori as something to go up against. Her purpose of existance, not only from the game's pov but also from Sunny's escapism, is to be an antagonist.
So this 12 year old's imagination creates this villain who's whole thing is being in abusive relationships and wanting to get married. This means this abusive/marriage obsessed character is either
1. Created by Omori to disstract Sunny from the more traumatising stuff in his mind. This means that not only does this child know about abusive relationships enough to create Sweetheart, but finds them easy enough to swallow that it probably was something he had somewhat gotten used to and had gotten normalised (Perhaps even that the abuser was someone who still was very well liked).
2. This is one of Sunny's fears slipping through (Like the ladder, spiders or the ocean). This would mean abusive relationships and this marriage obsession is not only something Sunny knows of, but also activley fears (Probably to the same extent he fears the things that lead him to literally almost drowning, so pretty badly).
This leads me to further believe Sunny's parents relationship was,,, less than ideal. My assumption is that it's his father from the little information we have about them (Sunny's mom seeming more neglectful but not angry and the tree chopping scene). The popularity could also be a hint towards the common occurance where and abuser can put up an act towards other people. This could probably be very confusing to a child as they see this person doing horrible things and yet being loved and looked up on by others.
(Idk how this turned from "I think it's interesting how the person Sweetheart first wants to marry is the first to not want to be with her" to "Sweetheart's character could be further proof of Sunny's home situation being abusive" but well, here we are)

As someone obsessed with Undertale, Deltarune, Omori, etc., I am constantly looking for indie games with similar vibes. The stylized pixelated art, meaningful choices, cute characters, and heartfelt messages for their audience. With this in mind, I would highly recommend the mobile game Afterplace. I usually wouldn’t recommend many mobile games, but this one was just made with so much heart. I hardly see anyone talk about it, but it has really stuck with me.
The game opens in a very Undertale-esque manner; the MC falls and lands in a pile of flowers in an unknown world. You are given a quick combat tutorial, and sent on your way. The game’s map is maze-like, and holds numerous hidden areas to discover and explore. The music is charming, with a sort of vintage video game feel from the almost vinyl record sound they hold. The game also saves automatically, so even if you have to take a call or close the app for some reason, you won’t lose any progress.
The cast of characters is rather small, but they worm their way into your heart immediately. From Clover, to Gramps, to Foxy, you’ll find adorable, but complex friends around every corner.
There’s a sweet variety of vibes in the game as well. There are open meadows and serene lakes for the whole peaceful, animal crossing vibe, but there’s also an abandoned, half-buried library, and a terrifying forbidden forest.
And while the game doesn’t have the same variety of endings my other favorite games have, there are a couple different endings you can get based on how well you explored the world. If you don’t explore it to its fullest extent, there are plot lines that won’t get wrapped up, or character arcs that won’t be fully realized. The game does seem to lack a certain amount of direction, as you don’t have a super clear quest log, and a lot of plot-relevant things can be a bit difficult to locate. But being forced to explore every corner of the world is one of the draws imo.
As of now, January of ‘24, the game only costs $7 on IOS. I binged it the first time in a little more than a weekend, and the game has IMMENSE replay value once you have unlocked its secrets.
I actually learned about the game through an Instagram story Griffin McElroy posted, recommending it. So if you don’t want to take my word for it, take his.

Hello! Just for fun, I've been making up hypothetical quirks for Sunny and Omori from "Omori," and was wondering what you thought! Having to simplify due to char limit. For Omori: Red Hands - Allows user to summon ghostly, disembodied hands of various sizes. Does anything a person's own hand and arm can. Canceled out with electricity (hands are ectoplasm). For Sunny: Hallucination - Exactly what it says on the tin, but impacts ALL FIVE senses. Both are versatile, but HUGE stamina drain.
I normally don't do multiple Quirks together, but these are simple enough I can cover them together. And if you are worried about character limits, I would suggest you just send across multiple asks
While I think there is something in the basic concepts, there are issues in execution. For "Red Hand", besides the oddness of using "ectoplasm" as a part of description in this setting given the lack of ghosts, though you could easily have them be a generic slime, electricity doesn't make a lot of sense as a weaknesses. It isn't something exploitable enough to work as the sole downside of the power, especially one as seemingly varied as making all these arms. As for "Hallucination", having some illusion ability that can target multiple senses is fine, but you really need to be clear and about the extent that illusions can actually affect people. Like if they are actually capable of harming someone, that is impossible to balance. Stamina is also an odd drawback to have since it's so easy to train around for a big benefit like this. If you want to do powers like these as full Quirks, maybe try out "Back Hand" and "Delusion" respectively.

Jesus Christ the plot of OmorOff is starting to get really complicated...
I might need to restart lol.
I have so many ideas and trying to build a coherent lore around it is insane.
Then again I think if I tweak some things it'll start looking out a lot better. Alot of the ideas I have the now I really like but they're still really foggy and hard to make sense of.
I have decided to place more emphasis on Sunny with some chapters being solely from his point of view. Also I think stranger is going to be there. His side of the story is going to be about him stuck in his room and exploring the world in his dreams to some extent.
I'm also stuck on the fence on whether I want Omori's character arc to be about bromance or being gay. I know I said they were aro/ace but I'm a fucking loser when it comes to romance. I'm probs going to stick with bromance but hey the bitch might be gay.
Also decided that Mari is a scary mf. Not even just threatening or powerful she is absolutely terrifying. She isn't the villian but I do intend for her to do some pretty bad shit.
She does have a reason for it but she's still fucked up.
I'm going to go to sleep now, tomorrow I might write down and try to elaborate more on the ideas I have. I'm also going to draw a physical timeline of events so I can actually know wtf is happening lol.
So yeah if this ever gets written. It's probably going to be so fuckin weird lol.
Again if anyone's interested or would like to even help make this please don't hesitate to drop a dm or anything really. I know I say this alot but if I don't bounce these ideas off someone else I might explode.
Anyway nighty night

and idk if you ship anything in omori or if this is even a viable ship but Sunny/Aubrey? <- me pulling two random characters out of a hat
HEY MAN THATS ACTUALLY A PRETTY POPULAR ONE, YOU GOT IT!!
sunburn: ship it
What made you ship it?
they have cute interactions in general and i do think sunny's crush on her is like. really endearing, but mostly it's the parallels and post-canon potential, like i guess i kind of feel like as much as kel would want to be understanding, he would have a hard time coming to terms with sunny's confession and genuinely forgiving him (he might just want to like...move on and forget about it, in a sense - he just doesn't want to lose his friends again), hero would probably have the hardest time with it, and i think aubrey would be initially upset but ultimately the way her arc trends throughout the game, i guess it's more or less like...she would kind of get it? and she wouldn't want to forgive him, i think - but in some way, she wouldn't be able to forgive herself for the things she did after mari died if she never forgave sunny for what happened. and of course basil would get it too, but aubrey is just like. enough removed from what actually happened for her and sunny to develop a good relationship where they confide in each other, maybe. also, i think it's funny that he stabbed her
What are your favorite things about the ship?
friends to lovers is always a top tier dynamic, but they've also got that extra layer of having not been friends for many years that i guess just adds some flavour. i mean sunny has this with all of his friends, but the fact that they were enemies for like two days is fun. they just have good scenes together, in general. i love their swingset convo, it's very sweet
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
honestly omori fandom kind of scares me so i don't know what the popular opinions are, but i guess i could say that, like...i don't necessarily like the idea of sunny's childhood crush on her being something that sustains. i think it's important to his character because it shows us how he well. literally romanticizes the past, but aubrey isn't the same as she was and it's a lot more meaningful for him to get to her know her as she is now and learn to love that person, rather than hold on to a childhood ideal. and idk if i'd say that aubrey ever requited that crush - obviously the whole point of how his friends act in headspace is that it's something he's created, so they, to an extent, act the way he wants them to - so i think, as cute as it is in his memories, it's not actually a first step to their relationship as teens. it's more like something they have to work past in order to have a relationship as teens
send me a ship
