Reading solomon to sleep

Inspired by the event: "The scroll of thirst" ch 1-5

Warnings: POSSIBLE slight OM! NB SPOILERS as of Solomon's past, so read at your own risk. bad grammar & spelling mistakes

There are two things that could happen :

It could be so difficult to find something to read to him as if it is most likely he's read any bed time story.

It could be rather easy to find something to read to him as if it is most likely he's never read that kind of stories because of his childhood and never bothered to to do not bring unwanted memories. ( The second one is the one I think it's most probable).

Let's imagine number 1 happens:

"Soo let's try with this new book I found—" "I've already read it." He says just by seeing the cover. Frustrated, you sigh, tossing aside an old book you found at the library in your way home along with many other lame attempts of yours to accomplish your partner's wish of sleeping while listening to you reading to him.

"Don't you think at this point it would be better if you tell me the stories you know?" You ask, defeated again.

"Possibly, but I want to sleep by listening to you, not the other way around at least for once."

You lost yourself in deep thought as to what you could do to help.

"Oh, now I know!" You exclaim finally smiling, startling the tired Solomon who was laying on your chest.

"What do you have on mind?"

" There was this day when a little child was going to their first day to primary school..."

He raises an eyebrow, trying to remember any story with a start such as that one.

"...between cries and pleas asking to their parents to do not let them go as they were parking the car, they noticed..." you stopped, getting suddenly embarrassed even though it was your idea to begin with.

Solomon turned to look at you once more, finding strange your sudden stop with the story but noticing a hint of a little blush forming on your cheeks, as you seemed to be remembering something.

He grinned, patiently, he patted your thigh to get you back to reality and continue as his curiosity only increased by each passing second.

"Oh, sorry, where was I?"

"They noticed?..."

For this, he had already accommodated himself next to you while laying on the bed, opting to keep his embrace around your hips.

"Ri-right, they, they noticed they had completely forgot their backpack."

One minute of silence passes and Solomon still had the smile.

"So as the kid thought they had succeeded on their mission, their parents were clearly not happy with that, but thankfully let it pass... the end."

He finally let a laugh pass his lips trying to imagine the scenery of little MC being stubborn on the ride to school, gaining a playful punch on his arm.

"Hey, this was supposed to make you sleep, not laugh!"

"I'm sorry just letting my mind wonder around the story..." he says leaning closer to you and making you impossibly more nervous.

"That's it I'm going to sleep and next time you'll be reading to me understood?" You turned your back to him and covered with the sheets.

Fine fine, but let's make this a more frequent action can we? I'd really love to know more about silly little things you've gone through."

Now let's imagine number two happens;

This was your first time reading to solomon something rather than conjures or potions' list of ingredients, the first time doing it while he was lying to comfortably on your side, 'so close.' You thought.

"Are you ok?" He asks, more like to state he's ready to start with the book on your hands.

"Ye-yes, let's start then... today we'll be going through the story of the little red riding hood." You heard him gasp. You lift up a little the book to let yourself see his reaction and come to think maybe he's already read this, of course, being hundreds of years old he must even know the devildom's most famous stories as well. But you hear him let a little laugh after.

"You've read it before right? maybe you know all of this already, this was a terrible idea—" he stops you before you close the book you so eagerly searched for to make a different thing in your night's routine with him.

"It was not, I'm sorry for laughing, it was because of the title, but... I can't quite remember how it goes. Actually, I don't really remember having anyone to read a bed time story to me, that's why I never searched to read any for as long as I've lived."

To this you stood still, shocked and now sad imagining his words and connecting it with your thoughts. Being hundreds of years old, having read thousands of books across various worlds, languages, but haven't ever being read to, or read a bed time story truly most have hurt no matter the era he was born on.

"Oh, I'm sorry for that, erm, then, would you like to do this more often?"

"Believe me, I'd rather listen to you reading something I already know or not, than not hearing your voice anymore."

I would like to add that Solomon would like the really macabre stories of all these famous tales rewritten over the years to entertain little children rather than scare them, which the original stories might do with some of them.

Demon mc gets stressed and subconsciously tugs at their horns and rub at the base where they grow out from similarly to how human will sometimes pull at their hair or pick at their skin.

A self soothing action found in demons with high anxiety.

Diavolo noticed this action over time and made a point to have you sit next to him or one of the other lords for comfort. If he catches mc, reaching to tug at their horns, he will gently take their hands and shake his head authoritatively. " No tugging, it'll hurt you"

Mc puts their hands back down as diavolo gives them scratches and pets on the spot in between their horns. He dgaf who sees, what is anyone gonna do??? He's the prince, and you're his favorite.

Mc: *totally healed* Do you think humans should be like that because that's how you've been living as an angel?

Simeon: *feeling his chest heaving*

Mc: *smiling* Tell me, would you be willing to go on like this now that you're human?

This doesn't make a lot of sense but I'm thirsty…Give me a deep conversation between Simeon and Mc about mortality, about the human beings, about being human, about angel standards, about angel thoughts about humans, about Simeon's feelings and everything that's in his heart!!!! Please.

So, it looks like a "mysterious force" 90% sure it's Barbatos pulled us into the past. We just...vanished.

Can you imagine the panic? The sheer terror when the pact was severed?

Mammon clawing at himself, trying to soothe this deep ache in his chest. Leviathan, with a deep-seeding anxiety in his gut, pacing in his room. Satan raging, turning the Devildom upside down to find you. Asmo calling all of his friends and fan club members, trying to identify the last person who saw you. Beel and Belphie venturing into town, calling your name, before discovering your cracked D.D.D. in an alleyway.

And, worst of all, that vauge sense of unease Lucifer has, before someone confirms his worst fears?

UGHH IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR SO LONG.. i’ve been coloring it and coloring it over and over so i gave up and decided to post it.

Everything we know about Barbatos so far, lore wise.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ALL SEASONS

➤ He lives in the Demon Lord's Castle with Diavolo and works as his loyal butler. (swd: 2-13)

➤ He's one of the demons who share a pact with Solomon. (swd: 2-A)

➤ According to Mammon, he has a secret torture room beneath the castle from where you can hear the screaming of his victims at night. The other brothers and Diavolo were in the room when he told this to MC but none of them batted an eye or tried to deny it. (swd: 6-19)

➤ Before, citizens of the Devildom were allowed to easily travel to the Human World whenever they wished through passages placed in certain locations in the kingdom, but now those passages are blocked and the only way demons can use them is by getting permission from the few other demons who are still allowed to use them freely first. Barbatos is one of said demons. (swd: 11-4)

➤ He has the ability to time travel thanks to his powers that allow him to create a portal to any place, time and reality he wants. (swd: 15-17 and 53-11)

➤ He was the one to take MC back to the past when they made a deal with Diavolo to figure out who had opened the attic door and released Past!Belphegor in exchange for Present!Belphegor's freedom from being imprisoned for conspiring against the exchange program. (swd: 15-17)

➤ He looked into MC's bloodline under Diavolo's request once the prince realized there was something special about them, and it was then that he found out that they were Lilith's distant descendant. (swd: 16-15)

➤ In response to MC asking him if he knew everything that would happen with Belphegor getting out of the attic before it occurred Barbatos said that no, he didn't know, and even further said: "Imagine for a moment what it would be like to know everything that will happen from now until the end of time. Why nothing could possibly be more boring, wouldn't you agree?" (swd: 15-17)

➤ His main way to use his powers to "space travel" is through the many doors in his room in the Demon Lord's Castle. (swd: 15-17)

➤ He was never a child. (swd chat: The Royals, “That's What I Mean”)

➤ He met Solomon a long time ago when the sorcerer risked death to summon him (swd: 53-16), desperately needing his powers to control time for reasons that are still unknown. (swd: 49-A)

➤ He gave Solomon his grimoire out of trust and respect for him. (swd: 53-16)

➤ It's a big rumor around the kingdom that he's powerful enough to rival even the Demon King himself. (swd: 54-1)

➤ He met Diavolo when the prince was still a child and Diavolo got Barbatos to work for him by luring him into the castle with the promise of very rare tea and then telling him that he wouldn't let him leave unless he agreed to be his butler, getting to the point of even threatening to not assume his position of king in the future if the older demon refused to. And telling this story to Thirteen, Barbatos confessed to having found the whole thing very cute. (swd: 58-A and nb: 15-A)

➤ When it hit the news that he had sworn allegiance to Diavolo the whole kingdom was in shock and it was THE THING everyone was talking about. (swd: 54-1 and nb: 15-1)

➤ He has been around for a long time and shows up in historical records under multiple different names. Rumor has it he was alive even before the Devildom took shape. (nb: 15-1)

➤ When asked about Diavolo in a conversation with MC, he told them that the prince is the very reason for his current existence. (swd: 54-5)

➤ Narrated by Solomon in the Nightbringer Prologue Movie we hear the story of a certain demon, it goes: “Once upon a time, there was a demon who could see both past and future. With a flurry of trumpets from his king, the demon appeared. Finding a lost human the demon whispered: 'I can take you to where you'll be happy.' Through their tears, the human spoke: 'Thank you, o kind one. If you save me from this dark path, I will pray to you every night. Please, tell me what they call you!'" But before any reply can be said Barbatos is shown making a shushing sound, which was largely perceived as him not wanting the viewers to know that he was the demon from the story. Later, the human was revealed to be Adam, a man who came to the Devildom looking for his lover and met a demon named Nightbringer, who he immediately went to begging for help. (nb: 8-16)

➤ He was the one to give Solomon the title of “the Witty Sorcerer” when he brought him to the Fountain of Knowledge for the first time while Solomon was on the verge of death. Barbatos attended the sorcerer's wounds there and declared him the new protector of the spring. (nb: 11-10)

➤ He's to blame for how much Solomon has changed, according to Thirteen. The reaper told MC that Solomon used to be very loveably innocent when he was younger, but that Barbatos let him experience whatever he wanted and now nothing scares or fazes him anymore. (nb: 11-10)

➤ The reason he had been so irritable towards Solomon in the past was because when visiting the sorcerers' home he found a list of demons he wanted to make pacts with and noticed his name was placed 8th. (nb: 25-1)

➤ Before meeting Diavolo he used to use his powers freely to travel through time and space whenever he wanted without a care for how his actions could affect others, and they ended up terribly affecting Diavolo and Solomon, and Barbatos sees his devout servitude to the prince as a way to atone for those past actions, but Diavolo doesn't know that. (nb card: Barbatos, "Tea With You")

➤ Although he accepted to work for the prince for the sake of atonement, he ended up enjoying his time with him and found that he felt a sense of belonging working for him. (nb card: Barbatos, "Tea With You")

I've seen someone sharing the very last page to show "he's aware he's in a game". I wanted to share the last three pages to instead show: He's aware of the multiverse (because of COURSE he is), and spoke directly to we readers to confirm that all realities coexist simultaneously.

He's aware in one universe, his reality is our game.

He's aware we all have our own experiences, headcanons, and relationships with these characters. And they're all valid for our universe. Which coexists with all others.

Yes. He's aware he's in a game. But it's so much more than that.

So go off, fellow exchange students, and know that your fanfic and your fanart and your imaginary situations with your fictional others is all, by Barbatos' own assurances, a reality.

Thoughts on Solomon and the Nightbringer

Spoilers ahead.

Anyone else get the feeling that Adam was a distraction to who the human really was in the prologue to Nightbringer? Thirteen gave us the rundown on Solomon, and really talked about the destructive path he was on at one point. She also talked about how Barbatos stole him away to the Fountain... What if it wasn't the Barbatos of that present time necessarily that did so? Validity to my thoughts. Adam was dead when brought to the Devildom. He talked about wanting to go with his love to the Celestial Realm. The prologue mentions "A dark Path" that the human was on... but it doesn't really address Adam. At least it doesn't appear that way. However, Solomon was brought from a dark path and realigned on something a bit more productive to Lord Diavolo's vision. Barbatos can see both past and present. Many different realities as well, I'm sure. As for what angered Barbatos... I can imagine that Solomon in that present time was having his go at collecting demon pacts. He likely realized that demons saw him as a pawn and went to work with the Celestials after the unrest. There's a reason Solomon earned a token from Michael. He had forsaken his oath to him. The years down the line, that is ONLY when Barbatos is able to make nice with Solomon. This is current to his betrayal.
