Trusty as a pup tracking down criminals with his grandfather Old Reliable. Since Trusty has a Southern accent and it's specifically mentioned that he and Old Reliable tracked criminals "through the swamp" it's clear that he grew up in the South (I say Louisiana) then eventually he and his owner(s) retired and moved to the Midwestern town that the movie is set in.

For the swamp setting I actually looked at pictures from The Rescuers as inspiration.

The short-lived Writing SAT section didn't do much good, but it did ensure that I got the 5-paragraph essay format drilled so deep into my head that I could slap one out under absolutely any circumstance. This stood me in very good stead in college, when the perfectionism didn't shut up until the tired shut off higher brain function. Were they good essays? They were essays that got turned in on time.
