Sometimes it made her angry how often people took for granted something as simple as a touch from another. She would sit and watch a hand reaching to offer comfort to another only for that person to pull away. A hug being pulled away from too quickly by the rush of daily activity. It made her scowl every time, her eyes filling with envy, longing for that simple thing. Skin. Just one connection of the soft caress of skin against skin. Sure, there was the occasional need of her power to incapacitate a villain, a quick press of her hand to them. It wasn't the same, she wanted someone touching her. Hands exploring across her exposed body, making her body quiver and ache for more. The kind of touching she lived vicariously through when she spent a little too much time flying in the sky around bedroom windows.

Before her powers manifested there had been affection from her parents, playing with other children, the occasional brush by, those memories were so long ago now that the visual was there but not the muscle memory from the action. Then Cody happened - the kiss that caused her to put on the gloves and swear off physical contact forever. With her boyfriend in a coma she realized even her lips were cursed, she would never share in the affection of others, including sex.

Sex - the reason she had fixated on finding a mutant she had come across by chance. Someone who had rendered her powerless. Temporarily, but the rather embarrassing car ride home left her lost in a parade of possibilities of what she could experience with such a gift. She had questions, how did he do it? How long did it last? And most importantly, would he do it again? She fluttered from her chest all the way down to long-abandoned areas. Rogue had done her best to disguise herself during her treks down to the mutant underground in search of leads, even trying to do her best to not threaten her powers against anyone for information, but after reaching a point of frustration, a slip-up, or slip off of the gloves, found her finally getting the information she needed. A deal was made with her body as barter for pleasure and arrangements made

There had been several points she considered turning back around and backing out of the arrangement. The first, as she hastily spread the fiery red hair dye through her hair. It just had to be the brightest damn color on the shelf, but it was also the one that promised to wash out the quickest. She dried and straightened her hair before applying dark eyeshadow and glossy pink lipstick. Her eyes lingered on her reflection in the mirror, unable to remember the last time she had allowed herself to be this...femanine.

The second, placing the eight inch heels and other items in her bag. She knew she wouldn't make it out of the Mansion in that, but a body suit would provide the cover needed to slip away unnoticed, concealed in the night. She had taken her gloves off to feel the texture of the stockings between her fingers, trying to imagine what it would feel like to have his hands running up and down her legs, up over her ass… Excitement and fear rushed through her. This could be addicting, the logical side of her brain trying to reach her but her mind lost in the feel of her fingertips dancing across pink silk.

Finally she had felt a moment of hesitation as she made her way to him. The question of how far she would go to experience what he could offer, followed by how far she would want to go, both burning at her mind. Flashes of things she had seen while floating in trees, the ravenous ways couples went at one another flushing out all negative thoughts. Instead she felt a gush between her legs, causing her to fly faster to the one who could finally give her the release she craved.

Here she was, feeling his eyes on her as she peeled out of the body suit and let it fall to the floor. Every part of her body screaming to feel his skin against hers while she slipped into the garter belt and stockings, taking special care to slowly run her hands up her legs as she did for show. What am I doing? Her heart raced as she slid her arms into the silk sleeves before turning to face him. She started to worry about if this would actually work and if it didn’t would she be able to stop herself being so worked up.

Then he touched her, she drew in her breath and waited for the flow of her powers to course through her. When nothing happened she exhaled and closed her eyes in relief only to feel his lips pressing so lightly against hers. Her body vibrated and she reached out to touch him, a hand on his cheek, moving down to his neck before resting against his chest. She felt head drunk with the sensations of lips against lips, skin against skin. For a moment she forgot about the world around her, memorizing the way his hair felt in her fingertips, the feel of his facial hair when she lightly brushed her hand down his cheek, the heat of his chest against her palm, she wanted to imprint in her brain forever should she lose the opportunity to do it again. Finally she broke away from their contact, squeezing her hands into fists as if to will them to stand down. She looked at him, eyes full of fear and excitement, she struggled to find her voice but when she finally did she asked him, “What else can you show me?”

the speculation about post-savannah reunion "how could a relationship work and how would thomas be ok with everything flint did" is like. i did Not get that interpretation at all based off the london flashback scenes

I think after talking a lot they'd come to a mutual understanding (which they were always very good at doing in their partnership) and it'd be fine imho.

like even as a privileged aristocrat, thomas was a troublemaker. a political radical who's whispered to be mad by half of whitehall as well has his political powerhouse dad ("what a piece of work you are") because he believes in rethinking systemic things and isn't afraid to say it loudly. he considers his wife his intellectual equal and lets her sleep around with as many men as she wants, in general could not give less of a fuck what others think of his marriage or his beliefs. his sexuality warrants death by hanging yet he remains confident in it and entirely unashamed. this guy wasn't exactly a goody two shoes

he was also stubbornly determined to see humanity in the downtrodden and exercising forgiveness for those who are extremely disadvantaged. he gives coins to random lower-class families at criminal executions by the docks even after witnessing the angry mob behavior (makes a friendly comment to the child about it being "lucky"), and is still persistent in seeking the universal pardons after learning how israel hands brutally murdered the governor's family. he was an actual authentic christian when it came to mercy and compassion for the poor and oppressed

then he spends 10 years unjustly incarcerated as a political prisoner ("unjustly" because aside from having a homosexual relationship, he never actually did anything illegal), and spent at least a significant amount of that time in horridly inhumane conditions. going from a wealthy politically-active nobleman to an early 18th century asylum inmate who then supposedly kills himself and is perma-exiled to a penal colony is... quite a harsh downfall to say the least. there's no way it doesn't dawn on someone that intelligent and intellectual that trying to work within the system cost him absolutely everything. flint says that england took everything away from him and miranda, but that's not entirely true - he and miranda still had each other. thomas truly had nothing.

so i don't think it's a stretch to infer 1716 thomas would be way more ideologically aligned with flint than one may initially think. would he agree with everything flint did in his war against england? most likely not. miranda didn't, so highly doubtful that thomas would either. that was always their dynamic though - they saw eye to eye on principles and beliefs (james admits this during his bar convo with hennessey), but argued a lot over methods and practicality. that was always the foundation of their intellectual connection. furthermore, flint didn't even agree with everything he did himself. gates' sacrifice tortured him. he wanted to return flint to the sea for a long time. he kept fighting brutally because he believed he had nothing left to lose. sounds like an incredibly wronged and damaged human being who may qualify for... authentically christian forgiveness perhaps

and besides. james was his truest love and miranda was his dear wife. miranda and james recognized each other despite everything and thomas and james recognized each other despite everything. bottom line they all suffered and they were all committed to each other because it was love. love is synonymous with a commitment to seeing the best in someone despite their flaws and fuckups. that's just what it is and its demonstrated plainly over and over again in the show.

if he could forgive ashe for his cowardly betrayal which cruelly ruined all 3 of their lives, would he really not forgive miranda and james for charlestown? or the maria aleyne. thomas wasn't eleanor. he wasn't thirsting after his father's approval so logically i can't see why he'd react the way she did

i mean yeah they'd have a LOT to talk about but still. all this taken together, you really mean to tell me thomas wouldn't understand flint's war against the empire, and wouldn't forgive his more evil actions (born out of desperation)? ya i doubt it

Oh man, I was sick of the 'make Colin grovel/beg/suffer' nonsense all the way back in SEASON 2!!!!! It's a shame it continues to be all too prominent of a theme in Polin in general. (honestly, this is why I stopped reading and writing fics) but whoever the person who made that rant is, I wanna be friends with them! I feel like a lot of Colin fans have been outspoken about how unfairly he's treated in what should be his fandom, but because we're a minority in the fandom, we get pushed out by polin fans who just. . .don't like him? (Why they gravitate to this ship I will NEVER know) And the people talking about how 'Oh, they're not *really* Polin fans, they're Pen stans!' like. . .they're still the ones that went on Polin fics (including my own?) and talked about how Colin didn't deserve her? They still wrote so called 'Polin' fics with no pushback at all of Penelope abusing him and it being totally fine? They were all too happy to see Colin pushed to the wayside time and time again? Can't lay down with dogs and be surprised you have fleas in the morning, you know?

Like it's genuinely no surprise to me that Pen stans who hated Colin but still shipped Polin for the sake of Pen getting her prize became Nicola stans who hate Luke because they're mad that they didn't get together.

I miss the Polin that were *both* ride or die for each other in fandom. Since S2 I feel like it's just Pen being an OOC girlboss queen and Colin being her footstool in way too much of this fanbase. God forbid he have any emotion other than full fawning over her. smh

I think we go through cycles in the fandom. Maybe we're in a new era of people recognizing how toxic Polin is/was/can be and people are calling out how weird it is that the fanbase seemingly hates half the ship. But idk, I feel like this is just another person who will be pushed off to the side because though what they said was true, people just don't wanna hear it. I will always ALWAYS stand by the fact that people can write whatever they want and deserve respect in fandom. I avoid any of those fics because I try not to say negative things to or about creators. But sometimes I so badly want to be like 'if you read this from his perspective, is it a love story, or is it a tragedy?' and like. . .most of the time, from his POV in these stories, it's a tragedy. And there's really not a lot of variety (most of the stories that countered the typical 'colin begs and suffers and grovels and is called an idiot' narrative have left) so it's all there is. And you just can't help but come to the conclusion that this fandom just. . .doesn't like him.

Which sucks, he's fantastic. Polin deserves love stories where they're both treated well.

Starlin may dislike Robin in general rather than Jason personally, but when he writes shit like this where Jason is made to look like a bad student who Bruce struggles to teach, and Dick is the True hero who has to set him straight and clean up after him… it sure feels personal!

And look at the way Jason’s dialogue is written/ how he’s drawn in this issue and the issue prior:

He’s kind of… a huge dweeb. He’s obviously anxious, but in a way that fails to be endearing because he’s simultaneously shown to be careless.

He stumbles over his words in a way that indicates he’s struggling to face the situation at hand, and it’s made worse by the fact that Jason apparently finds getting reprimanded by Bruce or defying Nightwing to be a situation more difficult- more worthy of anxiety- than any of the other dangerous stuff he was doing. Like he really is written as someone who does not take the vigilante game seriously here.

Idk. This is a flashback issue which ends with Jason sort of redeemed by virtue of getting on good terms with Dick, and if this characterization had been allowed to stay in the past it would’ve been ok I guess. But Jason dies a little while later and instead of this little arc where Jason went from a shitty kid to a decent hero who made good on the legacy Dick left him, he is just Entirely defined as this shitty reckless kid.

Dani sucks in a breath, and prepares for the worst. "There's no way you're fitting in that."

Blades gives her a blank look, the dress halfway up his thighs. "Huh?"

Even if there weren't love handles spilling over the waistband of his boxers, there's no way in hell Blades is fitting into anything Dani owns. He's taller than her, his shoulders are broader, and he's far more filled out. "You're not fitting in that."

"Why?" Blades asks, seemingly genuinely curious.

Because you're fat, is on the tip of Dani's tongue, but she holds it. Blades isn't even human on most days, she shouldn't subject him to human problems like body image issues. "We're not the same size," she settles on, tapping a beat on her arm. "You're bigger than me. And I'd rather you not rip that dress."

Blades' frown gets deeper, but he shimmies out of the dress and pulls back on the old tshirt and jeans from her dad, the only clothes they had that would fit him. "I could get smaller?" he offers.

Dani shakes her head. "No, you can't," she tells him. "You're not... y'know."

"Right," Blades mutters, crossing his arms over his chest. Dani can see the outline of his stomach through the shirt. How can he not be insecure about that? "But I don't like these clothes, I like your clothes. Your dad has no sense of style."

Dani cracks a smile at that. "No, he doesn't. But, uh..." she shifts, staring at the dress crumpled on the floor. Maybe she should've let him stretch out that dress. She always looks a little off in it... "I could take you shopping," she offers, and Blades absolutely lights up.

"Really?" he says, grabbing her hands. "Can we go to the mall? Oh, I've always wanted to do that-" he cuts himself off suddenly, eyes growing wide. "Oh my Primus. You have to buy me a pretzel."

Dani bites the comment on her tongue and forces herself to match his energy. "Of course!" she promises, squeezing his hands back. "You should enjoy your time as human!"

Blades' grin lights up the whole room.

Dani sighs when he turns away, babbling about all his plans and gathering up the clothes scattered on the floor to get an idea of what he wants. He's so excited, Dani wishes she could genuinely match that energy.

Maybe I could stand to learn a thing or two from him.

Every week someone makes a post about how annoying it is that Dick Grayson fans don't acknowledge his flaws, and every week someone replies with an explanation that the flaws OP listed are entirely fanon and inconsistent with canon as it actually happened and at this point I have to assume that none of those explanations are ever going to stick because clearly some people just want the fanon to be true.

Anyway, I'm just putting this here for me to edit and add relevant-to-the-topic links later so I'll have them nicely at hand to read and sooth my frustrations when it gets real bad out there. (Echo chambers are good when we use them to drown out character mischaracterizing fanon.)
