that entire scene of billy being taken can literally be interpreted as a metaphorical rape scene. he's dragged downstairs by his ankles to an abandoned basement in the middle of nowhere while he's thrashing and screaming for help. the mindflayer holds him down and enters his mouth while he continues to struggle. when he's free, he runs away to his car and drives off to the nearest phone booth because he's terrified that it's following him.

he doesn't know what to tell the 911 operator, would they believe him? it all seemed very unrealistic. he has flashbacks and starts dissociating, replaying the scene in his mind, specifically the scene when it enters his mouth. and then he's faced with himself. the other billy represents the side of him that feeds his degrading emotions.

this is literally a metaphorical rape scene i don't know what to tell y'all. the way will's kidnapping can also be interpreted as a child predator holding a child hostage and violating him. joyce's initial thoughts must've been that her son was kidnapped by a sick person. and the fact that they found will unconscious with something forced in his mouth?? metaphorical assault scene.

and billy's shower scene? the black veins represent the phantom touches and pain left behind by his rapist. he's showering because he wants it off him but it's not going away. he's starting to dissociate and the memories are hitting him full force again.

do the duffers realize this connection? the show would be outstanding if they acknowledged the general theme of vecna/the MF representing an abuser/rapist who specifically targets troubled children because they're easier to manipulate.

Oh!! Speaking of Kelp at the orphanage, I was looking through my camera roll and I ran across that picture of him again. I looked closer at his old mask and I’m like “what the hell is that supposed to be??”. Then I was plagued by visions. His mask struck me as a little weird, because at a time where honkai was running rampant, I doubt he would have had the time to stop at a Spirit Halloween and buy one.

I thought the texture kind of resembled wood and I remembered that he had wooden figures in his luggage— so like what if it was a keepsake one of the kids carved for him?? If I remember correctly, there was a cutscene where there were some kids (presumably infected with honkai), sitting under a tree, so maybe the tree ACTUALLY has some significance, but frankly I think I’m becoming delusional. It’s more likely that the devs were just like… “huh this looks cool” and slapped it on him. I can only dream 😔

I do know that in chapter three? you can try to talk to Kalpas and ask about the mask and he tells you to fuck off 🧡 and then Elysia comes over and will answer your questions and you can ask her about the mask and she says it was just like a super common kids mask you could buy anywhere lol and then I think Sakura confirms this?

the kids giving him the mask makes a lot more sense to me tho. like man's insane but not to the point of just wearing a mask for no reason, and I think sentimentality is extremely high on his list of good reasons lol

remember when people were swearing that mothpool was incest and awful because redtail was apparently sandstorm’s dad, something that was never portrayed in the books at all in any way, even when we got multiple spotlights on redtail and sandstorm after the erins said so, and in fact they retconned over that retcon so sandstorm has no canon parents and redtail never had a mate and kits.

and on top of that, the same people not saying a single word about bramblesquirrel even though they’re literally the same exact amount of related.... wonder what’s different about mothpool from bramblesquirrel. hm.
