The Return of Superman- Doyoung
(cw: f!reader, kids)
Doyoung felt awkward. He'd forgotten how he normally acted in his own home, how we acted with his own kids. Did he offer the cameramen food, snacks, or water? Did he tell his toddler to keep away? Why did he agree to this?
He sighed, standing from the bed, his first day alone with the kids. You'd left just a few hours ago, pressing kisses to the kids' foreheads and caressing his cheek. "You are going to be fine, my love. They're easy kids. I love you," you had smiled at him before making your way out of the house.
Doyoung was nervous. Not only was this the first time he'd be alone with his kids, these next few days would be the longest time he'd have spent away from you since the kids were born. He hated it.
He was also nervous that he would be boring to the viewers. He had a 8 month old and a 2 year old. The producers and his managers had reassured him that he would be fine, fans just wanted to see a more domestic side to Doyoung. It had taken some convincing, but he had agreed in the end.
--
"Wow, he's a professional!" One of the commentators marveled.
Doyoung could be seen in the kitchen feeding both the kids at once. With one hand he held the bottle of formula to his daughter's mouth while she laid across his lap, propped up with a small pillow. With his free hand he fed his son who was strapped into the high chair. He moved so fluently, he really did look like a professional. He even managed to wipe up the mess from the toddler's face while.
He burped the baby while his son left the kitchen in favor of going to the living room to play with his toys. Doyoung watched with a soft smile, wiping up some drool from the baby girl.
His son was busy chattering away, showing off his cars and animals to the cameraman while holding up his toys for the camera to see. Doyoung laughed softly while placing the baby girl on her stomach on her play mat. Hearing his sister's happy coos, the toddler brought an armload of his toys over to his sister to share.
The commentators all cooed, completely heart warmed, "Oh my goodness! What a good brother, wow!"
The scene cuts to Doyoung's confessional, he laughs as he answers the question from one of the producers, "I know it looks sweet, but it took a while to get here. He doesn't care for sharing, but it's getting better. He doesn't share his favorite toys with her, won't even let her touch his favorites." He runs a tired hand down his face, "his favorite cars are the ones with bright colors that light up and make sounds, of course that would draw the attention of a baby, but he screams when she reaches for it. They toys he shares with her are just toys he doesn't really care for anymore."
"Ahhh, that makes sense. He's a smart 2 year old," another commentator adds with a chuckle.
The scene changes to show Doyoung loading the kids into the car. The toddler patiently waits while Doyoung lays the baby in her carseat and gets strapped in.
"Excited! So excited!" The toddler smiles giddily.
"Are you excited to go see the animals, Bub?" Doyoung asks while he straps the toddler into his seat.
A commentator gasps excitedly, "they're going to the zoo! Oh, they'll love it."
The scene cuts comedically to Doyoung's flushed face as he hoists his son up and carries him away from the lion exhibit. The baby girl watches with curiosity, her first in her mouth from her position strapped to her dad's chest.
The commentators murmur in confusion, "what happened? He was so excited!"
The camera crew follows the small family to bench, filming while Doyoung wipes his son's face and makes him drink water. "You can't climb in with the lions. Baby, they would eat you." The toddler only cries harder, sniffling as he takes a sip from his Spider-Man cup. Doyoung sighs deeply, "what would I do if the lions ate you, baby? What would Mommy say when she came back from her trip? She would be so sad if her baby boy was gone, right?"
The toddler nods sadly, "don't want Mommy to be sad... or sister." He leans forward to press a wet kiss to his sister's cheek.
The scene cuts to Doyoung's confessional. He has his head in his hands, laughing tiredly, "I can't wait for my wife to come back."

The failure of David Ayer's Suicide Squad (2016) might be the biggest turning point in the comic book movie fad besides The Avengers (2012). Existing from the get-go to transparently rip off Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and bombing catastrophically, DC decided that the best response to such a flop (and a generally floundering film department) was to just straight-up poach Gunn himself, and he made his own The Suicide Squad in 2021, even recycling the same actors from before, like the first one just never happened! And it was much more successful. So successful, in fact, that Gunn's just been the guy behind ragtag, colorful, "we're so back bros" ensemble movies for DC and Marvel alike ever since (Gunn's third Guardians of the Galaxy movie came out in 2023!). It's such a strangely singular and powerful course correction for both companies, where they both realized this one guy evidently "gets it." And the numbers don't lie.
That being said, I'll give James Gunn this: the trailer for his Superman movie really does look like the Superman movie that everybody's wanted for years... for better and worse. We're going to get Clark Kent and Lois Lane (looks good! the shot of them making out in the kitchen!! yay!!!) and a bad and bald business tycoon Lex Luthor (finally!). We're gonna get Superman swooping in front of bystanders to protect them and punching big monsters (fun!). But we're also gonna get some absolutely cringeworthy execution on Big Themes about what a Superman can do for such a divided, polarized world, with so much war and strife and conflict over there in some fictional sandy country (uh-oh), and we're gonna get some keys dangled in front of us because Gunn wants to make sure you know he's got his comic book chops so he'll be cramming as many things into the movie as possible. And while it sure looks like a comic book, what are we going to be getting out of this that we haven't seen before, somewhere, some place? Is any scene in this movie going to be as heartfelt, as earnest, or as true as that first scene in Richard Donner's Superman where our hero takes Lois Lane into the air by her hand? I can believe that this movie'll be a fun action romp, but will it make me believe a man can fly?
Admittedly, Guy Gardner did make me glup shitto out a bit though. YEAHHHH YAHOO THAT'S MY GLOAT !!!!!

just watched gen V episodes 1-3, lets go opinions nobody asked for!!
I'm all in. It may be my black girl mc bias, but I am deeply invested.
I was really not into The Boys. The color-grading, bleak outlook on humanity, and six millionth deconstruction of superman all felt stale to me, and I wasn't a fan of incels recieving new ammo, no matter how satirical it was.
Watching Gen V though made me honestly want to give it another chance.
My one criticism is the criticism I have with most mainstream film, which is the lack of subtlety. There is a bigender character, a schizophrenic character, and a character with an ED in this show, and that is not even the half of it. I would appreciate this more if the show would talk directly to those audiences instead of seemingly spending the whole show adding footnotes explaining those concepts to the general public. But I can let this slide because a foot in the door is a foot in the door and we really need that right now.
Meta aside, oh my GOD this story. I have never been so invested in my life.
Andre and Cate haven't really grabbed me emotionally, but they're both acted so well that i'm intrigued anyways.
Jordan is really fun for me because she has a story outside of her gender. He's really direct and cool and is the exact character archetype I catch feelings for in media. He's also played by TWO actors who have blended their performances so well that I kept forgetting they were separate people.
Marie, Emma, and Sam are so perfect I could probably write dissertations on them, but for now I will settle for saying Waterworld is almost definitely foreshadowing, and if it's not it's a metaphor.
The DEAN is such good writing. They casted an actress who played a loving mother in bridgerton to be a sneak-attack villain, and I haven't seen such a good twist of expectations since Chris Evans in Knives Out.
idk i never know how to end these that's all I got.

Dragon Ball Super Manga ch.97-99
Cell Max is running wild, but don't worry, because Goten and Trunks are here to pad the story give Piccolo and Gohan a breather.
To be fair, the boys do a little better once they turn Super Saiyan, which kind of begs the question of why they didn't just turn Super Saiyan from the start. This page's sole purpose is to have the Gammas notice their "resemblance" to Saiyaman X-1 and X-2. This would be annoying enough even if they did look alike, but they don't. Look at them! Trunks and Goten have tights and some sort of Stormtrooper midriff thing going on. The Gammas are wearing jodhpurs and bellhop jackets. And Goten and Trunks' color schemes are clearly reversed from one to the other. The Gammas match perfectly except for their red and blue capes.
The only real similarities here are the numbers on their costumes, and the fact that there are two of them. Oh, and Gamma 1 has a red cape, and Goten has a red cape. Eerie! What are the odds of two superheroes having red capes? You almost never see that. I mean, there's Superman, Thor, Great Saiyaman, Dr. Strange, Spawn, Great Saiyaman 2, the Scarlet Witch, Supergirl, Great Saiyaman 3, Power Girl, Steel, but other than those characters, I can't think of anyone else!
Then they all pose together and attack Cell Max in concert. It looks impressive, but their quadruple-team fails to do any damage. The Gammas acknowledge that Cell Max is still getting used to moving around in his body, so he's not fighting as effectively as he will be later in the story. So that's why Goten and Trunks can do this well without actually hurting their opponent. And that's fair.
What doesn't make a lot of sense is the Gammas' role in this part of the battle. Of everyone involved in this battle, they alone understand the danger Cell Max poses to the world, because Dr. Hedo told them about Max's powers. That's why they went in first when Cell Max first emerged. They knew they had to shut him down as quickly as possible. And they're not rusty like Goten and Trunks, or unfamiliar with their bodies like Cell Max. If there's a window of opportunity here for Goten and Trunks to fight Cell Max without looking outclassed, then you'd think the Gammas would use this chance to target Max's head and finish him off.
Of course, they can't actually do that, since that's not what happened in the movie, but that's the problem I have with all of this. Toyotaro keeps shoehorning Goten and Trunks into this story, and their scenes tend to interfere with the plot instead of adding to it. The Gammas have a cool gimmick and aesthetic with the super hero thing. It works. They don't need two more characters aping that look right beside them. At best it's redundant, and at worst it just cramps their style. It'd be like if Frieza had a teen sidekick following him around repeating everything he says. It would kill his whole vibe.
Okay, so once Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks, the battle plays out mostly like it did in the movie, but there's one part that got changed up and it caused some controversy in the fandom. Remember how Pan almost got killed, and Krillin called out to her and told her to fly, and then she managed to fly for the first time?
So in the manga, Pan has the same moment, except she doesn't take flight. Instead...
In this version, Krillin just flies over and grabs her. And that makes sense. Why would he just assume she can fly on her own? Why not just zip over and get her? However, this kills the character arc Pan had in the movie. She started the film wishing she could do more advanced training, but Piccolo won't let her because she can't fly yet. Then in this scene, she does fly, and when the movie ends she shows Piccolo and he proudly agrees to start giving her the advanced lessons.
Fans didn't like this version, because Toyotaro appeared to be saying "no" to something the fans enjoyed in the movie. Krillin doesn't need a hero moment in this scene because he gets a couple of hero moments when he helps fight Cell Max. He saves 18 and distracts Cell Max with a solar flare. Krillin's fine. So it sure looks like Toyotaro just scrapped Pan's big moment for no discernible reason. This happened in Chapter 97.
Hey, check out this cool shot of Orange Piccolo fighting Cell Max.
Right, back to what I was saying.
So in Chapter 98, Toyotaro redeems himself by having Pan fly for the first time, just in a later part of the battle. When Big Orange Piccolo gives the last senzu bean to Gohan in the movie, Gohan just eats it and that's it. But in the manga, Cell Max attacks Piccolo and knocks it out of his hand. No one can catch it, until Pan goes after it and follows it over a ledge. Gohan's worried, but then it turns out she can fly now so she was never in danger, and she gets to help him this way.
Is it better than the movie? I can see a case for this version, but one thing that bugs me is that it seems a bit contrived for Pan to notice the senzu bean and be able to follow it through the air the way she did. I believe she could and would catch it for her dad. That's fine. But I'm not sure she would understand the need from where she was sitting in Bulma's aircraft.
For that matter, I don't know that it makes sense for Pan to understand what a senzu bean is, or why Gohan would need one so badly. Someone might have explained it to her at some point, but Pan's only three years old. I wouldn't expect her to know everything about everything.
Anyway, it goes to show how much can change from one chapter to another. People were mad about Chapter 97, but only because they didn't have 98 right there in front of them to show them it wasn't that big a deal. This is one major reason why I don't like to read the manga as it publishes.
From here, well, I think I'm just down to cool shots of the fight with Cell Max.
I don't think much is different here, but the art is cool, and this is one of my favorite parts of the movie.
I think this is a manga-only bit. Cell Max works over Piccolo with ki blasts, and it looks like Piccolo blows up, which triggers Gohan's Beast form, but then later it turns out Gamma 1 was protecting Piccolo with his force field, which allowed him to withstand the blast.
Also, when Cell Max tries to use his wings to escape the attack Gohan has planned, Toyotaro has Gamma 1, Krillin, and 18 cut off his wings. Not sure we needed this, but sure, it gives those characters one more chance to shine.
And then Piccolo holds Cell Max down and pleads with Gohan to take the shot, and that's the end of chapter 99.
And that gets me all caught up. Now I just have to wait for Chapter 100, which is supposed to drop on December 20. Hopefully, it'll wrap up the Super Hero adaptation, but I wouldn't put it past Toyotaro to drag this thing out another three chapters with some sort of press conference featuring Sergeant Nutz, Saiyaman X-1 and X-2, and Cleangod.
There's been talk of a big surprise twist or something in chapter 100, but I'm not holding my breath. Usually when this franchise has a big announcement, it's about the date for some actual announcement later, and that announcement usually turns out to be something the fans kind of already heard about anyway. "Yes, we will be releasing a Chapter 101" is the sort of thing I would expect them to "announce" in chapter 100.
It would be cool if Chapter 100 ended with Black Frieza showing up and killing Vegeta or something major like that. Or, I don't know, maybe Goten and Trunks turn evil. Those would be shocking developments, but I doubt this manga would go that far. We'll just have to see...

Cool questions!
1: when playing, does the duo re-act stuff from movies? Like anakin vs obi wan or when Shrek is escaping from the dragon?
2: what’s one thing that one does shocks the other? Like Chris disliking bananas on pancakes? (Read that from an earlier post of yours)
3: for the superfamily, what’s one story you would write for them?
4: what’s one story you would write for Chris for his own book?
5: same as Jake?
Phew! Took me a good while but I finally was able to get to answering this one @pin-crusher2000 . Thanks for the ask
1) Oh most definitely Chris and Jake would reenact so many Star Wars duels, especially Obi Wan vs Anakin as they can float around which make doing those fancy acrobatics all the easier. Bonus points if they utilize those cardboard tubes and paint them to their lightsaber colors and Jake using his speaker’s speakers to play the music in the background
Otherwise, they certainly would also do the Dragon Escape but most tellingly if Meredith was watching them, reenact kaiju battles
2) Oh, Jake putting Milk Before Cereal which horrifies not just Chris but also Mar’i and Dick
Also, Chris not minding the dumb fun of the Bayformers films as much as Jake does
3) I think I can have Clark, Lois, Kara, Conner, Chris and Jon get blasted across space and time, across multiple time periods, alternate histories or possible futures of Metropolis during a big battle against the Time Trapper. For example, Lois winds up in Metropolis in 1889 during the height of the Gilded Age, her mini adventure being to expose a corrupt all powerful banker while Conner is sent into a Metropolis that’s controlled by Germany in a scenario should they had won the Second World War. The finale for the arc would see the Superman Family reunite at the End of Time itself coming face to face with the Trapper, but it won’t be just the family as many of their new friends they met all across their little adventures assemble to help as well.
4) Less of an entire story and more a one to two issue arc involving Nightwing Phantom taking on a cosmic being in a game of wits and intelligence rather than fisticuffs, all for the sake of saving reality itself. Think this being akin to say A 4th Dimension Imp like Mr Mxyzptlk or more overtly the Celestial Toymaker from Doctor Who. The real meat though is whatever thoughts and emotions are transpiring inside of Chris’ mind space as I place this after he has his reaffirmation from Dad Clark of him belonging to Earth in light of Zod’s invasion. He thinks about this planet he’s trying to truly accept as his home in spite of his origins and how much he must defend it from this entity while also trying to reaffirm himself that he belongs with his real family the Kents despite Zod’s words permeating his thinking space.
5) Here, I take some inspiration from the Batman TAS episode “The Underdwellers” in which like in that episode, Jake would be investigating some recent pickpocketing going on across the Bludhaven streets, all of them being committed by street urchins and runaways, a lot of them around his age range doing such under the tyrannical rule of a supposed caretaker who treats them rather horribly. After running into one of the urchins and rescuing them from an incoming subway train, Jake and the kid become friendly with each other to where the kid can lead our hero to the whereabouts of his comrades. Coming along for the ride is one of Jake’s rouges, long time best frenemy Cody Cunningham aka Lion Master, who also had caught wind of the pickpocketing so he comes along with Skybird in this investigation, forming something of an alliance between them. This proves handy as like the Sewer King in “The Underdwellers”, the villain has vicious sewer gators that serve him which Cody’s lions are able to fend off while Skybird persues and eventually captures the villain. With that, the orphans are finally freed from his reign, taken in by the Services and able to see the light outside once again. Throughout this story, we not only can get glimpses into Jake’s head as this in a way is deja vu with his history of failing to save street orphans from a supervillain once before but also once Lion Master enters the picture, the two can have talks about each other’s deal and how Lion Master in many ways just wants a place to call a home after surviving in the streets for so long and his sympathies for Jake’s situation in light of this case.
As the two were successful working together and Cody realizes he feels much better doing some actual good rather than remaining a small time thief with a gimmick, he finally takes up Jake’s offer to renounce his old life as a rouge, first turning himself in to the authorities and spending some time in Juvie to make up for his robberies (his lions we’re thankfully tamed enough for the authorities to keep in that meantime) then once he gets out of his sentence for good behavior, moves into the Grayson Apartment complex with a place of his own. A new fresh start for him, especially when his new landlord, Dick Grayson, drops by and hearing of his skills as a lion tamer offers him and his feline companions a job at Haly Circus.

Marvel Month :Hulk Gray
In this series Bruce Banner is talking to Doc Samson about the buried early days of the Hulk back when he was Grey not green, primarily focusing on Hulks relationship Betty Ross and her father Thunderbolt Ross
So the collaborations of Jeph Loeb and the late Tim Sale have become classics.Their probabbly best known for Batman the Long Halloween and Superman For All Seasons for DC ,but for a Marvel they did a thematic series :The Color books.Consisting of Daredevil Yellow,Spider-Man Blue,Hulk Grey and Captain America White ,each series takes a look at the early days of a Marvel superhero ,reminicing on the past as they remember a fallen loved one .IBefore this I have only read Daredevil Yellow which is pretty darn good ,but have heard good things bout both this and Spider-Man Blue (And Captain America White was SUPER delayed )
So I am so mixed on this book, cause when its great its great .....But I think, frankly, it made points that didnt feel were clear
I'll start with what I like
1.I like that there are no supervillains ,this is a character study and the villain is Thunderbolt Ross
2.This is less a superhero story and more a classic monster tale, which is fitting,as the initial idea for Hulk was based on the 1931 Frankenstein (Personal favorite of mine ) and even throw in a refrence to that film
3.Banner is an unreliable narrator ,we dont know how much of this is true and how much is his biases shaping the story .I dunno its an element I liked
4.Theres a lot of solid moments like Hulk in a cave with Betty (A scene later adapted into 2008's Incredible Hulk ), and a scene where Hulk pets but accidently kills a rabbit,I just really dug those scenes
5.There is a badass fight with Iron Man (Bulky gold suited Iron Man) and I just found that neat
6.Tim Sales artwork is gorgeous ,I reallly love the stylized look he brought to comics, and his Hulk is truly monstrus but sympathetic, also give me Karloff vibes
.....Ya know as I am typing I think I like it more thenI dislike it ...But I have three problems
1.Banner and Doc Samsons narration and analyzation got tedious real fast
2.The main focus of the book is Bruce is great in concept, the link of Hulk and Thunderbolt Ross and to qoute Clopain from Hunchback of Notre Dame "Whois the monster and who is the man " ....But also that Betty mightve fallen for Bruce for the wrong reasons, theat she saw the toxic elements of him similar to the toxic elements of her father, and tried to ficx him and...I dunno that just wasnt clear at all till near the end and just felt forced
3.Oh the ending sucks ,after a good final showdown with Ross ,Banners flashback ends with him being yelled at by Ross, then freaking out in Samsons office, leaping away and it just fell flat for me
Oh and a me thing.....I didnt relize this took place after Betty had died till a good way though (I didnt even know Betty had ever died in the comics )
I do reccomend this ,it is good ,but it did fizzle for me.Not Loebs strongest writing, though Tim Sales art make this reccomended

the girlies are going through it so i’ve watched even more stuff lately
i forgot in the last post that phil and i are keeping up with my adventures with superman (we are going to watch the newest one[s] today!) and this show is just. exactly what i want in superman media. because it’s superman! it’s why i love superman!!!!!! it’s just colorful and fun and he’s so puppy!!! and it’s incredibly anime, like they’re really out here wearing their inspirations on their sleeves and i love them for it. if you like superman who is actually superman and not batman but wearing blue this is the show for you. (and!!! he’s got the underwear!!)
bella and i also have started only murders in the building season 3. not much to say yet cause only two episodes but we’re off to a good start! i shan’t spoil who is IN THIS SEASON OH MY GOODNESS but i will remind everyone who forgot like we did that paul rudd.
we unexpectedly marathoned our flag means death the other night cause i had still not yet watched it and uhh. i mean do i really need to go into this one? xae was also there while we watched and he ended up getting sucked in to the point he was literally yelling at the show by episode nine. (also: when lucius was like “i know i’m not cute but i’ve decided to carry myself as if i am”? that’s the energy i want to embody from now on.)
as for movies: i think i should have included in the last one but am not sure about the order of things because time is fake that i saw insidious for the first time. i actually wrote a little mini-essay in my head about gender roles in that movie but it wasn’t as egregious about it as, say, a quiet place. like insidious doesn’t make me low-key a bit mad like that one does lmao. it has some real good spookenings! too bad the sequels are apparently real bad cause i would like to have continued the story, but it’s not killing me or anything. like that cliffhanger didn’t make me tear my hair out or whatever. it’s patrick wilson he’ll be fine.
we watched an irish film called the hole in the ground which is about a hole in the ground (that has some evil fey creatures in it). it was good! it’s very beautiful and quiet and atmospheric and i am a slut for atmosphere. this is for if you want a straightforward but artistic horror film.
then we watched the night house, and i guess horror movies don’t feel the need to have warnings because it’s a horror movie and you know it’s going to be horrific but we both wish we’d been warned ahead of time how much this one deals with suicide. it was really good and i could probably write a lot on it but it was also quite heavy and hit really hard. the ending had us both nearly in tears. recommended but with that warning.
(we rewatched the menu afterward to bring the mood back up. good-ass movie.)
and last night!! we watched red white and royal blue! i read the book ages ago but bella and rose were both going in pretty much blind and i’m so pleased with how much they loved it. i think it was a good adaptation. they kept what made the book a good read (it’s just a little modern romantic fairy tale with two men) and i think they conveyed the vibes of the developing relationship well. the lads played the roles well and with a lot of heart and sincerity. let’s not try to force either of them to come out over it though please? also in that vein: i am afraid that the release of the film is going to revive The Discourse about the story, so this is a reminder that mcquiston wrote it around the 2016 election as a way to cope and escape to a better and more just world. they know what it is and what it says.
can’t remember what else i’ve watched besides quite a bit of black mirror. i’ve been kind of choosy with the episodes because i’m still fucking haunted by the first one!!! why did they do that!!!!! but i gotta say. sarah hawkinson on youtube was so right. nosedive might be the best episode of the whole thing. just flawless. I could watch that ending scene ten thousand times i love it so much. special shoutout to joan is awful which is another current fav. maybe if i get through the whole series i’ll do a full ranking.
oh. and still playing zelda. haven’t got another divine beast but have fought a looooot of lynels. now just going around trying so hard to get guardians to drop ancient cores. not a sign of a giant one yet and i need THREE MORE PLEASE COME ON.

Alright so back in November I had someone contact me over on Zazzle, back when I had the calendars up for sale. They liked my restored/colorized images and were impressed by my research on the newsies and movie stars. They asked for an interview, I did some research and discovered this person released articles for The Oregonian, so I accepted. This person, Tom, is a journalist and did several interviews in the past, so why the hell is it that an interview he set up, he forgot? We rescheduled the next day and......phone reception was trash, which he knew that location had that problem but went anyway. To be honest, I wanted to just call it off because I had better things to do than sit and wait for this fool to maybe call for another interview, but my ex was excited with the idea of me being interviewed so I agreed to reschedule. On the third day, Tom and I were able to get the interview done. We talked about my restoration work, my work as a historian and in silent film. I didn’t like that when we started talking about my job as a historian he kept bringing up other people, and talked like they knew history 1000x better than I did. I know what I know and continue to learn everyday, what the hell? Anyway, before parting ways he let me know he'd keep me posted. That never happened.
January rolled around and I contacted Tom, asking how things were going. He told me The Oregonian wasn't interested in my story because Longview was too far away......................what? Okay first of all The Oregonian has run tons of stories on colorizers and their work over the years, why would mine be any different? Second, my location has literally nothing to do with my art. So if The Oregonian rejected my story, I don't believe it was for THAT reason. In fact, I don’t believe the newspaper rejected me IF they were told about me because my hometown is celebrating 100 years, that would be an opportunity I would think. So I’m just putting it out there that Tom never told The Oregonian about my story. Tom did assure me he had another ace up his sleeve, there was a magazine he was affiliated with called Old Stuff Magazine. And again he went silent. Why am I the one who constantly has to contact him?
Last night I sent an email that basically asked "It's been seven months, you had a plan, what's going on?" As angry as I was, I didn't use nasty language or hostile wording, just came right to the point. Tom took it way too personal, and at the same time exposed himself in his response. He said that he pursued the story as far as he could.......okay if you hit a dead end why not just contact me and be fucking honest about it? Say "Hey sorry but I can't find anyone who wants to print the story" but instead there was this need to hide information from me. He then went on to say he offered my story to publishers pro bono out of respect to my work - Are you serious right now?! Pro bono means free of charge, you didn't even get in touch with me and discuss that! Also what publishers did you talk to? So far the only places you've told me about are The Oregonian and Old Stuff Magazine, so unless you give me business names you're straight up lying. Holy shit I know the scam, I used to tell my parents "I went to stores and asked for applications", that really meant I went to two stores. Oh and then he ended it with "Some stories just don't pan out. Given the tone of your message, this will definitely be one of them." In other words, he got caught putting my story on the back burner and doing nothing with it. All I did was ask a question, no hostility or profane language and Tom went full blown unprofessional by trying to make it out like I attacked him and he's the victim. Fuck off dude. It’s been seven fucking months.
I found his Facebook two months ago and he posts a bunch of newspaper related memes, from Superman to anime. He also posts about going on assignment, on location, and there's posts of him going on family outings but there's NEVER talk about meetings with publishers. Asshole got caught, he's not a victim in this at all. How many months did it take for those other assignments to get released? Probably not seven months. All he had to do was contact me and let me know the truth, like a fucking professional but he didn’t do that. I thought about contacting The Oregonian, but they'd probably side with him and it'd be a huge waste of my time. Anyway, here's what NOT to do if you're a journalist.

I say this as a black person myself but...an issue I might take with this idea might be: Why do they just make white characters black for good representation? Why can't they create good, complex original black characters?
Because turning white characters black in certain versions of stories isn't....necessarily bad. Like with Nick Fury, those versions can become iconic and maybe even more well known than the original. But the thing is, it also....comes off to me at least as sometimes being a bit lazy.
Because the OPs right. Little girls should have more black Disney princesses than Titiana. But just making white characters black isn't the best solution for that. Because that means instead of creating new and interesting and unique black characters, writers can just make a white character black instead of putting in the work to create unique black characters. We don't need them to make more Disney princesses black. We need more black Disney Princesses.
Like, look at superhero stories. Look at characters like Miles Morales, or Ms Marvel (Kamala Kahn) or John Stewart. They're all unique, complex, interesting characters who have lots of amazing stories. And they wouldn't be the same if they were just a black Peter Parker or a black Carol Danvers, or a black Hal Jordan.
Not to mention, depending on the story, the character and story stays the same. So, they'd basically be reselling an old story with black character packaging instead of telling a unique story with a character of color. Or, they'll change the character so much, they aren't really as much like the original which makes you wonder why they didn't just make an original black character anyway. It's one of the reasons I'm not...super jazzed at the idea of Annabeth being black in the Percy Jackson TV series. Not only because I was hoping we'd FINALLY get a book accurate Annabeth after the movies....weren't great with her design, but also because they'll either change her so much she's nothing like Annabeth personality wise (like they did with Grover in the movies) or....she'll just be Annabeth. In which case, they could've just had her stay white and added a new black character to the cast. Or hell, if they really wanted to have a black character be important, why not have it be Beckendorf? He didn't have that much focus in the books despite being treated as important and we could have learned more about HIS unique story.
My point is, if you're someone who likes the idea of a black Ariel, or a black Hermione, or a black Superman, that's fine. It IS good for young black kids to see characters who look like them. But we should also want more new black characters rather than just white characters made black. Because just having lots of black characters who were originally white might give the idea to film makers and the like "Oh, we don't have to actually put in the work to create iconic black characters with their own unique stories. Just take an iconic white character and their story and make them black, and that'll satisfy people who want representation. Because that's all they want right? A black character starring in something?"
why Ariel being black matters
Ariel is black now and it brings so much joy to the girls who have only seen themselves in one disney princess, Tiana, who is an amazing character but representation matters and its damn time black girls got their little mermaid

Turning the Tables on Temperatures with Thermal Curtains
Once upon a time, in a house not too dissimilar to yours, there was a battle of epic proportions taking place. The adversaries? Your cozy living space and the pesky outside weather. Sweltering summer heat would turn your living room into an unwanted hot yoga class. The frosty winter winds would sneak in, leaving you wrapped up like an Eskimo indoors.
The knight in shining armor to rescue you from these unwelcome guests? Thermal curtains! Yes, indeed, these aren’t just your average window dressings. Thermal curtains, also known as insulated curtains, thermal insulated curtains, and thermal drapes, have been endowed with magical powers to keep the villains of extreme temperatures at bay.
Now, imagine if your windows were wrapped up in the coziest, snuggliest blanket you ever did see. That’s pretty much what thermal curtains do! They’re a clever concoction of foam layers, a reflective film, and good old heavy fabric, all designed to combat the harsh realities of fluctuating weather.
Insulated curtains, the summer superheroes of the curtain world, have a superpower that would make Superman green with envy. They can reflect heat! Yes, you heard right! So, when the sun plays the villain and attempts to invade your peaceful abode with its fiery hot rays, these curtains are there to deflect the heat right back where it came from. A big, resounding “No entry!” for Mr. Sun!
But what about the chilling winters, you ask? Enter thermal insulated curtains, your personal indoor fireplaces. They keep the warmth inside your room, preventing it from escaping. The result? Your heater can finally get a day off, and you’ll notice a pretty sweet reduction in those energy bills.
The heavyweight champions, the true divas of this realm, are thermal drapes. They’re a layer of opulence and a layer of insulation rolled into one, serving an added purpose of sound absorption. These drapes are the ones you need if you live next to a busy street or a honking goose — they’ve got the power to hush that brass band right outside your window!
Remember, size does matter here! The bigger the curtain, the stronger its power to fight off temperature troubles. Just like a superhero’s cape, it should sweep the floor, covering your window from head to toe, ensuring no sneaky drafts can wiggle their way in.
Oh, and did we mention they are quite the fashionistas too? With an array of colors, patterns, and styles, there’s a Nicetown thermal curtain out there to match every interior décor theme you could dream of.
So, in the war against weather, insulated curtains, thermal insulated curtains, and thermal drapes are your trusted allies. They’re here to protect your home, save you money, and look absolutely fabulous while doing it. Why not give them a chance to transform your living space and feel the magic for yourself?

The sheer amount of racism and misogyny that is being perpetuated in the Witcher fandom right now in the wake of Henry Cavill leaving is absolutely fucking disgusting. I don’t like Lauren Hissrich but I know for a fact the sheer amount of hatred and vitriol would not be happening if she was a man.
Henry Cavill chose to leave the show. No matter what petitions you create or hate that you spread he will only come back if it is beneficial for his career. Even if he didn’t like the writing, he would never have left the show if he wasn’t being offered double the fucking amount of money to play Superman and the opportunity to get out of tv acting and move back to film. But in the industry, it’s considered poor taste to mention that, so you hear the story being told that he left because of just the writing.
Henry Cavill‘s PR team did the exact same thing that is happening now back in 2018 when he left the role of Superman. He talked about how he didn’t like the writing for Superman. But behind the scenes executives all knew it was because he asked for a higher monetary contract and didn’t get it.
But this time, Henry Cavill, purposefully or not, has weaponized his fans, and particularly emboldened racists to go and attack women and people of color who worked on the show. And were cast on the show. He has said in interviews that he goes on Reddit and reads through the witcher subs. And his takeaway from those subs wasn't the horrific amount of racism there but rather that internet fans liked it when he talked about the books. Which is why his interview tone changed from S1 to S2 from "oh yeah this change was my idea" to "this change was Lauren's". He has never once said anything to defend his costars despite being very active on the internet so think on that.
Henry Cavill is not your friend, defending him while putting down women and people of color is not the move you think it is.
And if you’re telling yourself that this post isn’t about you that it doesn’t relate to you, that your hatred of the show and your love for Henry Cavill has nothing to do with racism and misogyny then good for you! Because a lot of the people you are sharing Internet space with and sharing your opinion with are expressing extreme racism and misogyny. And I sure as fuck hope that people are calling that out when they see it and can do a little self-reflection and wonder what exactly what they are contributing to the fandom.
#I am very upset and could talk about the misogyny and racism in the backlash for hours#because it is so bad#and I hope that some of y'all get some perspective quickly#the witcher#henry cavill

Let’s Talk Quickly About: DC Super Pets Justice League Designs
Let me start by saying two things. Number One: I love Super Pers, always have and always will and I’ll be going to see the movie for the SUPERPETS not the Justice League.
Number Two: Having something be made ‘for kids’ does not excuse any bad design or bad plot/summary or actions.
Now onto the talk. Ahem...holy JESUS am I not a fan of these designs.
Superman, Batman and Flash are fine aside from Bruces jawline. Aquaman is a bit iffy but depending on how he talks/acts O can dig it.
As for Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Jessica??
Why? Just—just why!?
Let’s start with Diana. What part of her design spells out Wonder Woman aside from the color Scheme?
Even if you use the JL Animated/Unlimited verse design to try and defend it this doesn’t look good. It just—it doesn’t. I’ll give them props for the leg and armor designs that’s new but everything else feels wrong.
Maybe if it was a design made in the early 2000s, once again calling back to the animated verse at the tome god i feel old, this would be fine but as of today? When so many good WW designs have been drawn, shipped out and loved?
It ain’t for me chief.
Moving on lets go to the man who made me say Boo-Yah as a kid.
I get they were trying to go for one of his really old designs but whoever told someone to give him a half afro needs to be talked too.
For me it just throws off the entire groove. I literally cannot stare at anything else first the hierarchy and contrast makes me zero in on it immediately and i just—I don’t like it.
And now—oh god. Now let’s move on to Jessica Crews.
I had to actually physically go on google and look up who that Gl was because i thought it was one i missed or someone new they made for the film but NO this is JESSICA motherfucking CREWS.
I’m sorry but— what in the actual hell happened during the conception of her design!?
This looks NOTHING like her! At all! Nothing about her design says this is Jessica, i’m usually all for redesigns and reimagining but usually I cna fucking what character I’m looking at!
What is with the mask? What is with the suit? What is with that fucking haircut?!
I swear to Christ if they use that haircut for the trope it’s usually known for nowadays I’m going to flip my actual lid. Ironically I am still fond of that hairstyle and am just saddened by how some media use it for ‘strong female characters’ that do the opposite of what they’re‘supposed’ to be representing.
Just—my god look how they massacred my girl. You look at these designs and the one we’re getting for Super Pets at tell me which is the odd one out.
I needn’t say anything more.
I am just—disappointed.

HAPPY STAR TREK DAY!
(although if you live in Canada, “Star Trek” day was two days ago, because the show was broadcast there first)
Today marks the 55th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. Premiering on the NBC network at 8:30 pm, the country encountered most of the crew of the USS Enterprise for the first time in the episode The Man Trap.
Although it was the first episode broadcast, The Man Trap was actually the sixth episode produces. However, it was a good choice as a premier because it included most of the main cast as well as many of the elements that would become staples of the series.
First and foremost being the USS Enterprise, a ship unlike any other ever seen.
Ah, the old NCC-1701! She is a thing of beauty!
The episode, of course, opens with the familiar voice over “Captain’s log,” which was a wonderful storytelling device for setting the narrative. But even though we hear Captain Kirk’s voice first (although we don’t know his name yet), Spock is the first major character we see. The log entry informs us that Spock has been left in charge onboard the Enterprise.
We also get our first glimpse of Lt. Uhura, seated at the navigator’s station. It won’t be until a little later that we learn that she is the communications officer for the ship. But this quick scene establishes that the Enterprise’s crew is very diverse (an alien and a Black female both on the bridge), which raised more than a few eyebrows back in 1966.
Next we get our first view of the transporter effect. There is no explanation given as to what is happening, other than Kirk’s voiceover stating that he and Dr. McCoy are “beaming down” to the planet’s surface. Star Trek, especially in the early days, decided the audience would be able to figure out what was happening.
Then we get out first look at Captain James Kirk and Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. The scene immediately establishes the friendship between the two, with Kirk’s gentle teasing of his ship’s doctor. Also note, this is the shortest you’ll see Kirk’s hair in the entire series. He’s got a proper military cut here; by the end of the third season he almost looks like a hippie.
There’s also a great bit later on, when Kirk and McCoy are speaking to each other on the ship via viewscreen. McCoy tells Kirk he’s having trouble sleeping. Kirk’s reply: “Try taking one of those red pills you gave me last week. You’ll sleep!”
Throughout the episode we’ve seen Kirk as the tough, no-nonsense, by-the-book captain who commands the respect of the people he leads. But these bits with McCoy show his humorous, human side that makes him a great character. I truly miss first season Kirk, especially the first part of the season, because that’s my favorite version of him.
Peppered throughout the episode are shots establishing many of the other characters who will become regulars on the series. Here we have Yeoman Janice Rand, who we learn is the captain’s yeoman and quite popular among the male crew members.
Unfortunately, Yeoman Rand only appeared in eight episodes spread across the first half of the season.
Rand delivers the tray of food at the botany lab, where we meet Sulu for the first time.
Since this is the first time the audience see Lieutenant Sulu, it would be understandable if it was assumed that he was just a botanist. Actually, Sulu had a few different positions in the first season (he was a physicist in the second pilot Where No man Has Gone Before, which would be broadcast 2 weeks after The Man Trap).
Surprisingly, Lieutenant Uhura seemed to get the most screen time of all the secondary characters. (not that I’m complaining; Nichelle Nichols is absolutely gorgeous!). Earlier on the bridge she was flirting with Spock (with Spock subtly tugging on his shirt collar, indicating his discomfort), and then chastising him for his apparent lack of concern when he learned that a member of the landing party is dead. Here she is being the queen that she is, teaching two other crew members proper turbolift etiquette: you let the person in the lift get out before you get in (same goes for elevators, just in case you didn’t know).
Two other recurring characters, Chief Engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott and Nurse Christine Chapel, are the only two not seen in this episode. Scotty’s voice, though is heard on the communicator responding to Kirk from the transporter room. As for Nurse Chapel, she was not introduced until The Naked Time, which was the next episode (#7) produced, but the fourth to air.
One thing which I didn’t notice until I rewatched this episode just now (or maybe I did notice, but just forgot) is that Kirk is carrying a phaser almost the whole show, even while on the bridge.
Sharp-eyed viewers may also spot various crew members in older uniforms, like those worn in the two pilots, The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before.
Some people may call these continuity errors, or chalk it up to the wardrobe department recycling costumes for the extras. But anyone who’s been in the military knows there’s always a transition period when new uniforms are introduced. For example, my Basic Training class was the absolute last in the Army to be issued the old olive drab green fatigues. The next class was issued the new woodland camouflage BDUs that became the standard for the next ten years. I was given six months to purchase a full set of BDUs (you read that right: I had to buy them with my own money). However, unless BDUs were specifically designated as the uniform of the day I was able to wear the o.d.green fatigues for another two years until they were phased out completely. I imagine these crew members are in a similar situation.
A few more Star Trek “firsts” from The Man Trap:
Kirk (or any crew member) using the communicator. Kirk is on his communicator a lot this episode.
The Enterprise on red alert.
A gun - or, more correctly, phaser - battle. Here we see Professor Crater armed with an “old style” phaser, but really just them same type that was used in the two pilots.
The very first phaser shot, as Professor Crater snipes at Kirk and Spock.
Kirk firing his phaser. Don’t worry, it’s set on “stun.”
Professor Crater getting struck by phaser fire. Don’t worry, it was set on “stun.” He’s going to talk like he’s drunk for the next few minutes.
Kirk and Spock planetside, establishing that the two highest ranking officers will beam down alone to handle a dangerous situation. It’s not like they have an entire Security Department on board the ship.
The very first meeting in the Briefing Room.
The crew at various stations on the bridge, although Uhura and Sulu are not at their usual posts, which just shows that this crew is highly competent and can handle multiple duties. Oh, and two of them happen to be women, and tow are people of color.
Sulu chiming in on the meeting via viewscreen.
And then, because it was a science fiction television show in the 1960s, the network insisted there be a monster. So we got the salt vampire, the shape-changing creature that had been killing all sorts of people by sucking the salt out of their bodies. Not too scary by today’s standards, but I wouldn’t want to run into it in a dark alley.
The first time we get to see Kirk make that face as he screams in pain.
And the first time we see a dead monster/alien on the Enterprise.
The, finally, the what will become familiar denouement with everyone on the bridge as Kirk gives the order for the Enterprise to break orbit and proceed to its next assignment. Notice that Sulu has finally managed to make it to the helmsman’s station.
Headed off into space for another adventure next week!
1966 was a great year. It gave us Ultra Q. Ultraman, Ambassador Magma (aka The Space Giants), The New Adventures of Superman animated series, the Slurpee and, of course, Star Trek.
55 years later Star Trek is more popular than ever, with several new television series available, and another feature film in the works. Here’s hoping for another 55 years of exploring the galaxy!
