My litmus test for deciding if I respect or value a person’s One Piece opinions is looking at the way they discuss Usopp tbh. You can tell a lot about someone based on how they talk about Usopp specifically.

If a person insists that Usopp is useless (whether it’s because he’s not as strong as Zoro or Luffy or Sanji or because he “doesn’t have a real job” on the crew) it tells me that they don’t pay attention to what Usopp does contribute, nor do they pay attention to what the story itself deems useful. Usopp may not be a massive, hulking powerhouse with ultra-powerful haki, but he does have utility in the crew. (And even if he didn’t, he would still belong because they wanted him.)

If a person insists that Usopp is just a crybaby or a coward and that he sucks because of this, it tells me that you don’t pay attention to what he’s doing while he’s running or crying. He might cry or shake or run, but he always comes back. He always stands up and fights in the end. He feels scared and then he does it anyway. It’s easy to forget, but Usopp is just a human in a world of monsters. For him to stand up and fight takes a lot of courage.

If a person insists that Usopp is not strong, it tells me they miss what the story itself tells us about what strength is and what it means to be strong. He has a skill that most do not. He is able to shoot with a degree of accuracy that is borderline inhuman. Whether he can kick through a boulder is irrelevant. Sanji can’t snipe from hundreds of feet away.

If you can’t look at Usopp and see where he fits in the story, I am truly uninterested in anything else you have to say about this story.

and man i forget how much i loved the baratie arc especially seeing how luffy and sanji first interact... "i refuse your refusal!" is so good and while bickering like an old married couple, they both yell at gin simultaneously i love them so much

Just finished watching the Adventure of Nebulandia and losing it over this SanUso crumb.

Usopp worried as hell as he holds Sanji so gently while he sits there all sad and pathetic and powerless. This is truly a blessing.

I want to hc that sometimes Zoro and Sanji are tempted to pull Luffy into their arguments, if only to see if they can get him to pull rank somehow, but never do because they both think Luffy would automatically want to side with the other.

Because yeah they both know Luffy doesn’t actually have a favorite, not even between the two of them, but come on. Of course he’d side with (the one who feeds his bottomless stomach) (the one who makes sure he doesnt drown in the bathtub), (the one who humors his every whim) (the one he listens to when the answer is ‘no’), (the one he would chase no matter where he tried to run)(the one he knows will always be there, unmovable, by his side), (the one who shares his belief in what others call fantasy)(the one just as willing to spill blood for his dream).

I found a one shot of Luffy with braids and I absolutely adore the concept, especially when it was described of him having the beads of his crew (I think??) within the braids that circles his head like a crown. I thought it was adorable. It’s A Story in Braids on AO3 by @islenthatur if you haven’t read it go read it ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Oh, don’t mind me… just thinking about how Ace is the only character with whom both parents are confirmed to have the will of D- something we know to be major though we still don't know why for exact, & Ace used his own will to care. To try to look out for those disenfranchised like he was growing up. To treat its ethos as an unimpeachable code when he finally found a place that finally wanted to protect him. To put every effort into being a good brother.

He set out trying to define himself, for himself, and yet became increasingly littered by nods to the people he loves- his public surname, the tattoos, the necklace, etc.

He wanted to live to the fullest, with no regrets. To give meaning to the man he was without the imposition of legacy. And, at the end of the day, that looked like making the choice, the active & fought for choice, to be loving. Then he died giving thanks for the ways in which that love was returned.

If that’s not beautiful, then I’m not quite sure what is.
