Solas cosplay update: I finally finished this bag 😭 I spent ages on it but I'm so proud of my first bag ever!!
Solas doesn't have a bag like this in-game (I mean, he does have a pouch thing in his original apostate gear but not this size/shape). I really need one for the convention and found this pattern on Etsy that seemed very elfy haha
One of the reasons it took me a while is because it's not leather, it's upholstery vinyl!
It's a lot more flexible/thinner, so I had to double up layers and also paint it to look like leather. I ended up also using some foam to give it more structure. I really hope it doesn't break on me at the con 🙏

And Mat? How's Mat doing? Oh he's doing grreeeaaat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yeah Mat, it's tooootally Moiraine's fault you have holes in your memory. Definitelt wasn't caused by that cursed dagger that you picked up after everyone told you not to.
Anyway, the distance between what Mat thinks and does is always interesting (and not something I thought about a ton back in the day).
And those wastrel nobleman definitely think Mat is much more dangerous than Mat thinks he is. He gets visibly, ummm, annoyed with Estean and the other dudes are all shooting telepathic messages at Estean to please shut the fuck up, all of which totally goes over Mat's head. Which contrasts with how well Mat otherwise understands their underlying rationales.

#tricked yall. this isn't actually about thorsten and victor it's about those two rabbits from the opening scene of tödliche tarnung#tatort stuttgart#(that was a lie this is my thorsten/victor thesis statement)#are they GOOD for each other? debatable. did they spend 90% of their acquaintance lying to each other? absolutely. are they both really#competent in their respective fields and really good at working together when they want to? yeah. is there something more than a little#homoerotic about all of it?#yes <3#the thing about take me out is that it's a rival snipers song and it's a song about machinery and knowing only one of you is getting out of#this alive . the thing about take me out is that it's about the moment before you both pull the trigger#still very annoyed by the GAPING continuity fail in spiel auf zeit btw. i'm sorry you're gonna base a whole escape plan on victor faking#there being a daughter thorsten doesn't know about. when tödliche tarnung TOLD us that victor has a daughter and OH YEAH thorsten (or chris#is her GODFATHER#come on. guuuuuyyyssss#i like making vids that feel a little like they're spiraling. repeating the same scenes (but not quite the same moments) over and over#again until it resolves into something either further up or further down but not far away from where we started#flashing back and back unable to look directly at the key moment until it passes and it becomes possible to move on#i ALSO like sebastian's silly little gazelle hop in that scene right after victor saves thorsten's life. symmetry would have demanded i add#some sort of baustelle instead on exactly that beat but no damn you. not throwing out the silly gazelle hop

You said how you aren't going to tell us your actual names. Is this a 'names have power' sort thing, or just social convention?
Whichever it is, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess collector naming conventions have an astral theme. You know, Moon, Pulsar, Asteroids, that sort of thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Charmer: Well, since you're so determined to know, then I will just tell you why we don't tell you our names. It's because they are in our native language and you wouldn't be able to pronounce it. We speak two languages. One is the language we've been using to speak to all of you, it is instantly understandable to you no matter your own first language, it can even be heard in the vacuum of space, but so can our main language. This language is a spell of sorts, when we speak it, it is understood, and all those that hear it can then understand others who've heard it spoken.
Tumblr media
The Cartographer: In our first language anything we might say is entirely incomprehensible to you. Your mind actively rejects it when you hear it spoken. I'll prove it.
They begin to speak, and you cannot tell what is being said, their lips move but your mind forgets the shapes they become. You try to concentrate on the sound but once the word is no longer being spoken you can only recall a melody or music, but that soon leaves you as well, like sand slipping between your fingers.
Tumblr media
The Coordinator: Yes, it is impossible for you to understand our language, let alone speak it. It would be like trying to force yourself to speak in colors. So we use code names that will be understandable to you.
Tumblr media
The Curator: Plus, if our names did have power, something as easy to guess as space theming would be silly and far too easy for something so important.

Can someone explain what the narrative stakes are even supposed to be anymore in jjk. All the characters are essentially guaranteed to die, the current cast is comprised almost entirely of characters who showed up 2/3rds into the story and we're supposed to care about them for some reason, and I do not even know what the threat is supposed to be anymore. The apocalypse? Destruction of an amorphous innocent society? Like has ANYTHING been shown of "here's the regular world that apparently needs to be saved" or are we just supposed to assume "this society is just Real Life+, so you're REQUIRED to care if some guy threatens to kill all humanity, because one of those humanities may be... a child" or something. Can you spare two seconds to show anything other than some magic randos fighting, or is it just a superhero story all the time now, minus the fun. Remember when yuuji had friends.
#jujutsu kaisen#jjk crit#sorry for like being salty in what will prob be the main tag#I simply do not vibe at ALL with the direction this series has gone in and would love someone to complain about it with ahfkaj#I'd write an entire meta on the narrative flaws but I do not feel like it#seriously though it's chill if people like the story and I'm not trying to cause shit by tagging it#well I'm sort of trying to cause shit#but that shit is 'blease will someone complain with me because I love complaining'#I just don't get it#like oh wow you killed characters off and established stakes! that sets a tone and shows that this is a serious conflict!#oh nvm you've killed everyone just to be gratuitous about it and prove how tooootally realistic your story is#and now there's no reason to care bc why get invested when there's an 80% chance the characters will all die#like. you're just alienating people from caring about the story you're trying to make them care about#idek what kenjaku is supposed to be up to anymore#for all I care he could explode the world and I'd be like whatever there was probably no one interesting left anyway#everything that happens anymore in jjk feels like someone said 'but what if all the nonsense in DBZ... was edgy'#and then thought they did something interesting#wooooahhhh someone did a fight for 70 chapters! so innovative and unique!#someone transformed! what a twist!!#woooahhh you did a nonsense rug-pull and are now lying to us acting like it was intended the whole time! sacre bleu!!!#anyway see my previous complainy post to see why gojos plot specifically is harmful bullshit#but it's a shoooooneeennnnnn#it doesn't neeeeeeeed to be written well or responsibly amiright?!#it just needs to make straight guys on twitter think they're unique for saying 'the real issue with jjk is that some women like it '#ok I'm done complaining. FOR NOW.#I'm sure I'll think of something else to complain about in two seconds.#fluffle talks

nothing like being reminded of a really shitty fucking thing that your dad did nearly 20 years ago that you still hold a grudge over.
In my defense, when - at the age of 20 - I (an at-the-time wiccan socialist dyke) had to move back in with him and mom (very conservative evangelical christians), I decided to be respectful of their boundaries regarding “inappropriate” things, and just put all my queer stuff, wiccan stuff, general fandomy stuff, and basically everything that was most important to me in one box, give that box to my dad, and say “hey, I realize with my sister in the house still especially, you and mom probably wouldn’t appreciate some of my stuff in the house since I’m gay and no longer a christian, so you can put this in storage and it won’t have to be in your house, just send it to me when I move out in a few months” and my dad agreed. It had mementos from my first pride, photographs of my friends and girlfriend, my stone collection, my diaries from like age 14 onward, multiple full spiral ring notebooks of fanfiction that I hadn’t finished/typed up yet, some of which I was really proud of and looking forward to eventually posting. Important box.
When I moved, he sent on all my things, but it was one box short. That box. I spent like 3-4 months calling and emailing saying “hey it still hasn’t gotten here are you sure you sent it” and him saying “yes I absolutely did” before he FINALLY admitted that he had never put it in storage. He’d thrown it in a dumpster immediately after I gave it to him.
I have never forgiven him for that and I will never forgive him for that. I extended an olive branch during a time when I was feeling most hostile towards them, and he took it out back and set it on fire while actively lying to me that he’d put it somewhere safe, and then had the gall to be shocked when I literally cut off all contact with him for months after that.

Has anyone in this Olympics women's boxing argument ever stopped and thought about whether it would make any sense for women to be more susceptible to being injured in boxing than men? Like sure, it's a fairly common assumption that men are physically stronger than women, and therefore a man would have an advantage at boxing because he can punch harder... But how would that make you more resilient to being punched in the nose? Like I would think the assumed advantage would be that women can't hit as hard and therefore would require more effort to take someone down, but what everyone is arguing over is a woman having her nose broken from a punch to the face, when a man's nose would be just as broken from the same punch. Women don't have like, daintier and weaker facial bones or something. Being punched in the face "by a man" when you're a woman is literally no different than being punched in the face by the same person as a man. If we are to assume that men (note: the person being debated about here isn't a man or even a trans woman, she is cisgender, but I digress) are so Herculean that their punches are just too dangerous for women, then men's boxing should be banned outright because it's just too dangerous for men to be punching each other with that strength when a punch to the face is exactly the same for a man as it is to a woman.
#this is my second time making an original post about this because it's just so so stupid of a thing for us to be arguing about#ive had arguments with terfs where i brought up how chromosomes are not always accurate and they always say#'oh well if they have a vagina then we can tell intersex women are women'#but now im seeing a slew of people saying that xy means you are undebatably a male and xx is always female#and that that's the defining feature that decides sex and having a y chromosome is inherently an advantage no matter what#and like. WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TEST SHE FAILED!! We don't know her chromosomes! we don't know what's in her pants!!#there is ZERO reason to believe that she is lying about anything or that she has an intersex condition#other than the one organization banning her for reasons they have not fully revealed because they are shady as fuck#but even if she did have an intersex condition I THOUGHT YOU GUYS SAID THAT IT DIDN'T MATTER AND THAT YOU COULD TELL????#i thought you could always tell! now I'm seeing 'oh she was misidentified at birth' THAT'S NOT ALWAYS TELLING NOW IS IT THEN???#if someone can go their entire life being raised female without knowing they are intersex (which is something that is not highly uncommon)#then you can't 'always tell.' or maybe 'we can always tell' just means 'i assume things about peoples lives based on their appearance'#'and anyone who does not fit a white eurocentric standard of feminine is a man because i say so.'#terfs are just so exceedingly stupid it makes me want to rip my hair out.#even my self identified conservative parents think this whole debate is stupid as hell. like they aren't even being 'dad ally' about it#with the 'oh i don't care what happens in your own home' way. i mean this is one issue we are completely unified on here.#the issue being that people arguing about this woman's gender are absolutely delusional.#sorry for ranting on main. this actually does piss me off because I fucking told every terf ive ever argued with online#that this is all going to end with people staging witch hunts against completely cisgender women#who have done nothing other than not fit their expectations of femininity. and they always said 'we can always tell so it won't happen.'#and now we've reached that point and they've all fried their brains so hard that they don't even realize it. actual cult mindset.#idk im done ranting now. this is why you never argue with stupid people on the internet i guess.

Aww the fanart with asheiji and kids... <3 It gave me an idea for a fic: Ash and Eiji's child(ren) notice that something isn't going right in one of their friends' life. Obviously they're too young and naive to realize that their friend is being abused at home. But Ash sees, and knows... Merry XMas and Happy New Year!
About an AshEiji [child], I'd like the name Layla for a daughter. Aslan (or Arslan/Arsalan, which is a Turkish name and not Hebrew like Yoshida thought) is the hero of a popular Persian epic. And Layla is from a famous Arab piece, Layla and Majnun, the middle-eastern version of Romeo and Juliet.
Ash has noticed that Layla's been a little ... off, for a while.
She's always bene a little introspective for her age, and generally just a good kid. Gets that from being raised by Eiji, Ash guesses. No way someone raised by someone that good could end up with a cruel bone in their body, even if Ash is the other parent. At least, that's what Ash has to keep telling himself to try to get the idea that Layla won't end up like him.
But she's been even more withdrawn lately, like she's thinking about something beyond her years.
Ash doesn't like it.
It's not quite familiar in a way that's especially concerning to him, but it's uncomfortable enough to see that he's worried. And she's been brushing him off when he asks, but he's determined to get through to her. Layla is his daughter, after all, as weird of a situation as that is for him to realize sometimes.
"Hey kiddo," he says one day, when she gets home from elementary. "You okay if we do an ice cream check in?" It's a keyword of sorts between the three of them—Eiji included—that started just due to Layla's love of ice cream. It became an easy way to talk to her about anything serious or seemingly scary. Spoonful of sugar type of situation. The ice cream makes everything a little more palatable.
But Layla frowns, now, and hugs her knees to her chest. "I dunno," she admits.
"We don't have to, but I do think it would be helpful to talk some things out, yeah? Something's on your mind."
She pouts.
"Am I wrong?" Ash says, not pushing too hard, but just a small challenge.
"Dummy," Layla mumbles. "How'd you know?"
"Hey, language," Ash says, halfhearted. Like he hasn't said worse in front of her. "Come on, let's get some ice cream and talk stuff out."
Once they're settled in with their bowls, Ash waits for Layla to speak first. She already knows that he's wanting a conversation here, since he essentially used the parent equivalent of the safe word they gave her to get her out of any situation without others picking up on it. He's inviting her to say anything and everything on her mind, but he's going to let her do it on her terms.
"... It's my friend at school," Layla says after a few bites.
"Don't talk with your mouth full," Ash reminds her softly. "What's going on with your friend?"
"He's just"—Layla makes a face—"I dunno."
Ash feels a flare of anger for a moment. "Is he bullying you?"
But Layla quickly shakes her head, barely sparing this kid from the wrath of Ash Lynx. "No, more like I'm worried he might be getting bullied. Or ... something." She frowns down into her bowl, and Ash can feel his entire demeanor shift.
Ash goes almost deadly quiet for a moment, thinking of how to approach this. He can't make assumptions too quickly, but he does know that they've taught Layla enough of how to speak up for herself and what healthy friendships should look like that she's probably right if she thinks that something's wrong.
Taking a slow breath, Ash reminds himself that he needs to not scare Layla here as well. He doesn't want her to worry any more than she already is—she's such a good kid, but it isn't her responsibility to be looking after her classmates. If she's right about this—or, rather, if Ash is right about what he thinks Layla might be saying—then the adults in her classmate's life have failed him.
Ash knows what that's like.
"... What's got you worried?" Ash asks gently. "Maybe I can help him, or we can figure out someone who can."
Layla thoughtfully scoops another spoonful of ice cream. "Well," she starts, "he seems to get hurt a lot at home."
Ash's temper flares for a moment, and it takes everything in him to remember that Layla's probably talking about the normal bumps and bruises that happen with the accidents of childhood.
Except, apparently, enough of them to worry her.
"What kind of hurt?" Ash asks.
Layla drops her spoon and runs her hands up her arms. "Like here," she explains. She taps her wrists with the opposite hands. "And here."
"Like bruises?"
Nodding, Layla says, "Like when I fell down."
Ash winces thinking of it even now—Layla fell out of her bunk bed once a few months ago. She wasn't badly injured, but she did have some really bad bruising.
"And he always seems scared in P.E.," Layla continues. "I don't know what's wrong, but ... something, I think."
Ash winces, thinking of his own experiences with sports at that age. There could be any number of reasons why a kid might not be fond of physical education, but ... it's definitely not a good sign.
Ash swallows. "Thank you for trusting me with all of this, sweetie. I'm going to see what we can do, okay? We'll make sure he's okay."
" 'Kay!" Layla says immediately. She trusts Ash so strongly that all the worry she's been showing recently seems to melt out of her. She kicks her legs back and forth, enjoying her ice cream.
... Well, Ash has a new goal. Ethical routes first: he'll bring it to the school's attention first, and then follow up with a social worker and the ChildHelp hotline.
And, if all else fails, there's still a little bit of Ash Lynx left in him these days. He's gotten his hands dirty before, and he's not afraid to do it again. Not if it means he can help someone like who he used to be.
