Repostober Day 11 - home is not a place
For months now, Techno and Phil have been hiding something from Wilbur. Tonight he means to find out what.
So basically, a long time ago, my friends and I had this thing we called the "hogwash AU", where we (ahem) sorted the DSMP characters into various groups that might attend a magical school, and explored the possibilities that would arise from that. It was going to be a huge, collaborative multi-platform creation with tons of content, but this is the only thing that ever came of it. But it has trans Wilbur as the Remus of his little group of three, and it has friendship and support and standing at the top of a tall tower in the middle of the night when it's really far too cold out for that, and it's fun, and I like it. (Fly high, hogwash!Tubbo. You were gonna work out how to get wifi to work on school grounds.)

SBI D&D AU!!
Okay so already we've got Techno as an oath of conquest paladin and Tommy as an oath of glory paladin.
I was chatting with my friend and we agreed Wilbur would be a bard multiclassed with either a wizard or artificer, but most likely an artificer.
(Interestingly, Ghostbur would be neither. My friend suggested a cleric, and his blue is how heals people. I feel like he'd possibly a druid.)
OG post that inspired this said Philza would be a warlock with devotion to Kristin, obviously.
I wanna say Niki would be a fighter. She's looked down on for not being "anything special," but she can kick your ass any day of the week, magic be damned. Her persistence and determination make her brutal in a fight.
Tubbo would be an artificer. Yeah.
Ranboo...hmmm. monk. or cleric.

Also I have a fanfic sin it's that sometimes I go back and reread some of my once-favorite sbi fics and then sit there and invent fic ideas where somehow Dream is the good guy in the story and Tommy is just a comedically unreliable narrator.
I almost wrote one once before I started thinking that might be disrespectful to the OG author and stopped 😭
LOL okay this is funny

I just spontaneously manifested an au for you. So yk how the whole not-Tommy's character arc is hanging onto Phil being kind and protective? Yeah so what if he actually got into a family where that wasn't the case? For the purposes of this au, it's DadSchlatt au. So yeah, Schlatt and Tubbo. And Tubbo gets replaced by the demon kid. And not-Tommy/Tubbo then proceeds to learn that apparently the blood connection doesn't, indeed, force parents to protect their children. What happens next? Also it'd be fun if not-Technoblade and not-Wilbur still get to sbi and how their story goes on there without not-Tommy.
“Tubbo” picked the mark because it was easier to hide if he was already meant to have spiraling horns. “Tommy” had never expected blood protection to go further than not actively attacking children for the most part, so it wasn’t a shock to him. To “Tubbo” indifference was still godly compared to what he went through in hell. His guard was slower to lower, but also he didn’t have those hackle raising moments of confused wariness compared to with Philza. It would still be a process of slowly learning he didn’t have to be bracing for the hit all the time, and there’d be a degree of finding safety in the cover. “Tubbo” didn’t take Tubbo to be loved, though, only to have a disguise to hide in to avoid the consequences of various heinous crimes. So it kinda went exactly according to plan. Schlatt wasn’t a vigilant guardian, and it was far easier to slip out and cause havoc than with the overbearing Philza. Even better, Schlatt seemed unphased with the violence beginning to plague the land, not drawing his kid closer like Philza would’ve.
He’d expected the family to eventually notice. “Tubbo” wasn’t particularly convincing, and grew lax with the secret. Why didn’t Schlatt notice? Weeks, months, years, how did he not notice his kid was long gone? Did he not care?
I’m not your real son.
“Tubbo” was amused when he finally said it, all jagged teeth and cruel entertainment. An impulsive reveal; he wanted watch for the horror to crawl onto the man’s features.
You think I’d want you enough to adopt you?
And then Schlatt didn’t seem to remember the exchange the next morning, more concerned with his hangover. Or maybe he just really didn’t care. Either way was fine by “Tubbo”. He liked to toy with the idea “Father” might even like him better than Tubbo, given how passive and meek and pliant he’s been so long ago. Far less interesting than “Tubbo”. But either way Schlatt was useful, ensuring “Tubbo” was an expected, unremarkable piece of the village even as it plummeted into ruin at his hands.
Then one day, “Tubbo” grew bored. He simply walked off, never to be seen again. He didn’t kill Schlatt, blaming his sentimentality on the human having served his use. Because even neglected as he was, apathy was still the greatest kindness he ever knew. The demon integrated into the next family, and the next. Only briefly, once, did he wonder if Schlatt had even noticed “Tubbo’s” absence at all.
“Wilbur” and “Technoblade” were far far better imposters than “Tommy” and were scrambling as their delicate balance was bombarded. The ruse could go on for a very long time, not pressured and panicked about “Tommy” rocking the boat and killing enough people to scare Philza into becoming stricter and paranoid. They’d likely start getting along better, helping cover up for one another. “Wilbur” would additionally be intensive about being a good “brother” to the real Tommy, just like he’s desperate for Philza’s affection and attention. Overall they’re far more chill than “Tommy” and would be far less stressed.
What eventually unravels the Not-Craft household in the OG is Philza’s unequal treatment of his children. Because part of the reason “Tommy” gets utterly showered in affection in the first chapter is because Philza is scared about the people going missing and is trying to protect his youngest kid. But the building resentment was based heavily on “Tommy” not being real, either, and getting that treatment. With “Wilbur’s” assumption that Philza knew and was still treating him the worst of the imposters, it became something that blew up. But if Tommy were real, and “Wilbur” again unraveled that Philza figured it out…it would just seem natural to him. Of course he loved his real kid more, but that’s didn’t mean he wasn’t treating the other imposters okay. “Wilbur” would be completely content to continue the illusion, although kinda rotting on the inside. Since “Technoblade” would never learn Philza knew, perpetually acting on the assumption he’d have sold them out if so, they’d never get their character development because they’d always dismiss any of Philza’s advice because they wouldn’t trust or respect him. Philza grieved his children, but had far more freedom than in OG timeline. Combined with a lack of transparency, he never developed empathy for the imposters.
“Wilbur” wouldn’t see his death coming. Neither would “Technoblade,” but they wouldn’t be surprised, either. Just bitterly resentful.

I’m going to make a statement about Mammalian Sighing Reflex because I used to be a strong SBI-DSMP fan, still SBI fan. So if you dislike DSMP in any capacity and just want to hate move away, I don’t like Dream, I was never a true fan of him, as I said SBI.
Now, any Lovejoy fans who also know Wilbur Soot or the ones like me who went through Wilbur’s music and then was there for Lovejoy’s first EP.
Mammalian Sighing Reflex is such a good album. Someone on Reddit described it in its literal sense(I believe) that Mammalian Sighing Reflex is the Reflex that makes a Mammal stop itself from drowning because it needs to stay alive. A human however can stop this from self-control. It’s our primal instinct to save ourselves and that’s what it’s about, the primal instinct to not drown yourself. I probably summarized it slightly wrong- who knows.
As I am American I did not get this first and I believe we were last anyways
Every song matches up to the next, it’s like Abbey Road’s side B but more depressing. Honestly the whole second half of the Album just hits closer to home than the rest and it just sounds good to me anyways.
I was saying, I can like almost anything Wilbur specifically makes because I have know and heard and loved his music for years now, almost two and a half.
Also, I forgot to mention- the reflex is a panic attack in the animal to survive, it knows it’s dying and is terrified/panicked. Well, any long term(I know I’m not an OG but i have been a fan for two and a half years) Wilbur fans know he has anxiety- I forget if it’s Social or just generalized- but he has talked about having Panic attacks from a young age.
That clues in the album name as well as a decent portion of the songs’ content.
Don’t fully listen to what I’m saying because the music is flowing through my ears and I’m picking up little bits so.
I don’t know which exactly but one of the first four songs there are lyrics about being on tour or heavily suggest a band kind of perspective.
He talked about having a panic attack on stage because he’d forgotten how to play “La Jolla” and I think that’s connects again to the album name.
What I was going to say though is again, before Lovejoy was a thing so SBI DSMP or Wilbur fans are thé ones I’m speaking to now, we all know the beginning of 2021 sucked for Wilbur. In “I don’t think it will end”(very good, makes me feel seen and that’s what this album is for) he describes how he hides away, and a very popular Crimebois quote is when he had talked about how he was sleeping in till the afternoon then would just scroll aimlessly on his phone but Tommy would text him saying “come talk to me” so he’d get up and get ready. The cycle he talks about fits in with that very well to me.
Wilbur splices recordings of himself into it, I know because almost all of us who were his fans in 2020 and 2021 know about the “field video” where he talks about how he could be easily killed by a sniper and not be found for days. From that I can recognize his younger voice and I think it’s in at least two videos, Amazon Standing Lamp and Glass Chalet- I believe-.
That’s all the investigation I’m doing from subconsciously picking up lyrics, so here’s this. This is obviously not my normal content so Good Omens and Our flag means death and The Magnus Archives enjoyers I’m sorry, but the creator means a decent amount to me and now does this album.

Just in case anyone was wondering. Trademarking fan-made characters and giving credit to the fan creators when it comes to fanfic, is only necessary when you are writing within that can creators AU.
Siren from bonesandthebees’s Clinic series, is a really good example of this. If you want to write within the clinic series, it is a helpful resource for your readers who may be unfamiliar with clinic, if you were to tag the OG creator of that niche Au, with tons of worldbuilding already established in the content. You wouldn’t tag bonesandthebees for creating an superhero/supervillians sbi au, that au is so vast and versatile. You could thank them for inspiration if that occurred, but still.
Like hypothetically: if someone wrote a witchbur fic, that didn’t focus on my own preestablished AU— like it was simply mashing the two items together, Wilbur and the concept of engaging in witchcraft—that’s not something you need to credit me for. You can thank me for the idea, if that was how you came to that idea, but it’s not necessary.
So. TLDR? If you are writing for someone else’s au—give credit to the author. If its just based of the vague concept of the Au? Not necessary.

it’s 2024 and every day I have to fight tooth and nail to keep my dsmp obsession from coming out of hibernation. Not even cc’s like I have no interest in going back and watching streams. But the lore?? The lore forever lives rent free in my head. This beautiful hybrid mix of canon and fanon shaped to tell a story that is actually incredibly nuanced and fascinating if you view it from that hybrid perspective.
Source material that was a little goofy at times and fanmade content that made it hyper realistic. That truly created a world that somehow manages to have multiple different canons? I love reading fics and seeing how everyone applies their different headcaons bc with how loose the backstory is? Anything could be true. I eat up every single version of c!sbi dynamics I read and every single person writes it differently. And yet they are all inherently the same characters, the same people at the heart of this narrative. And by focusing on different parts of the story you can take completely different meaning away from it. Like it’s the same story but because there are so many perspectives it’s so COMPLEX. Everyone (except for c!dream) has their own perspective and their own viewpoint and their own character wants and needs and desires that clash with others. It’s so intrinsically human. Characters that are not just created to fill a narrative space but fit themselves into the narrative instead. And because so many people watched so many streams from various perspectives you really get to see it in real time. The clash and the conflicts and the interpersonal connections leading to canonical decisions? It has so many building blocks to become whatever you want it to be and I fully believe that’s why the creativity of the fanbase was able to bloom so much. You could take what you liked and make it your own. Everyone has a slightly different way that they draw c!tommy. You see the devil hybrid, or the raccoon hybrid, or the blue cardigan or the green vs the red bandana, some of them do the white streak and some of them don’t but they are all still so clearly c!Tommy. The spirit is the same. And especially when it comes to costume design? OBSESSED with what artists and cosplayers created. Specifically for c! Dream, techno and Phil. Holy SHIT? The intricacies and details that go into those designs? The layers? people will literally draw anime boy techno or genuine pig hybrid techno and it’s still so clearly him?? It’s a fucking fascinating lesson on perception if you ask me. How all of us can look at something and objectively we all take in/have access to the same information but we all interpret it so differently?? Obsessed with the idea of a story shaped by its viewers, of flexible canon, and keeping themes universal. I can go read any sbi fic set after exile and they all follow the same generic format and yet every single one manages to be so different because of how they write the characters obviously, but also what sides of them they choose to show!! Obsessed with the different ways people write c!tommy PARTICULARLY post exile because even during those streams there was such an intense shift between the serious lore and cc!tommy just kinda fucking around? And seeing how people take bits of the cc’s and incorporate them into the characters? OBSESSED. Because it’s so improv based and it’s content made by people whose job is essentially to perform and entertain there are so many bits and genuine lighthearted moments. Especially back like. Pre Jan 6th id say? You were never stuck in lore mode the entire time.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the lore streams, and just watching for plot, but when it’s not mixed into the regular streams you lose so much of the cc! Mixed in with the character. Like after doomsday there were so many people creating such interesting and fascinating backstories that were like genuinley interesting stories but they just didn’t have the CONNECTION some of the OG server members did. It almost became like your lore character was an entirely separate person from you that you portrayed when the BEAUTY of it . That’s what made the relationships so compelling is having these people who were friends in real life create these characters that played and bounced off of each other. I think it was able to develop into what it was BECAUSE it was taken less seriously at the start. No shade whatsoever but these are not professional actors working from a script. The more they tried to script all of it (despite giving us some insanely cool streams, thank you Quackity) I feel like they lost some of the genuine connection that came from the back and forth banter and split second decisions. It was never a thing meant to be controlled or contained. Like I know that I sound like a broken record but I would genuinely LOVE to do a serious deep dive into it from a writing and/or character building, psychology, social media, covid perspective because all of those things had to mesh together to make it what it is that I don’t even know how I would start but I fully believe there is an opportunity for FASCINATING psychological research to be done there. How did a media source like this come about and raise to such popularity? How did it impact streaming in the future? How did it manage to provide a source of connection for thousands of people worldwide when the defining trait of that period was isolation? Were we drawn closer because of the isolation? Would it be replicable on a scale like that ever again? What worked about it and what didn’t? How can we learn from the positives and the negatives it provided us to shape us as people? Especially when so much of your audience were teenagers in critical development periods missing out on the social interaction with their peers that is CRITICAL for that time period. Because there was nothing like watching a lore stream and going on social media to see EVERYONE talking about it. There was so much physical distance and yet there was such an intrinsic connection with a group who was experiencing the same thing and found a way to cope with it and fill that social void. Did the lack of interpersonal relationships being developed (or even maintained) during covid impact how deeply people clung to the relationships of those characters? How the connection both between the audience and the character, the character and the streamer, the streamer and the audience all created that connection?
This is much much longer than I meant it to be and I will NOT be rereading it so I hope it’s somewhat coherent but like. Yeah.
TLDR: the Dsmp is fascinating both as a unique form of narrative and a massive social event and if I could analyze the impact of it more I Absolutely would

rose is awesome and i’d love to read more of it if u were down!!! obviously it’s your choice whether you want to continue but i think i speak for many people when i say the characters you have created are so riveting and even if the source material is… what it is you’ve turned them into your own.
fic!sbi means a lot to me even if i’m not really into the ccs very much anymore, and even though i hate wilbur himself the character the community has built forever holds a place in my heart and i do still love reading about him.
regardless, you have a pretty big audience for your writing and many are still interested!! i was actually talking to my friend about this the other day and while he hasn’t given a fuck about mcyt since like.. 2022 he still reads your fics and enjoys them :]
ur an incredible writer and i’d love to read whatever you write next, whether it’s sbi or other fandoms or even original works!! hmu when ur original stuff hits the shelves cause i’m definitely reading it :3
awww thank you this definitely makes me feel better. it still amazes me how many people have told me they dropped out of the fandom a long time ago and still read my stuff. definitely makes me feel honored that my writing draws so many people in
and don't worry if I ever do get the og version of glass published I am promo-ing the hell out of it lol

CHAPTER 4 OF MY VIGILANTE!WARDEN HYRBRID!TOMMY FIC HAS BEEN POSTED LET'S GOOOOOO
'But in truth,' said Bull, 'we are going nowhere. That my friend, is the irony of our constant movement." - Kate DiCamillo, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane //
“Listen, Shade,” The Blade said, “I didn’t come here just to make fun of you, although you are kinda pathetic—” A snarl, which the hero ignored. “—I’m here to give you a choice.”
A choice. A choice, when he had been beaten bloody, captured, and shoved into a cell under the Administration Headquarters, after the heroes had probably been boasting about finally catching the dangerous vigilante Shade, after—
Tommy didn’t have a choice, anymore.
“We can lock you into Pandora’s Box and let The Warden take care of you. ” A pause, as he let the message sink in. “Or,” The Blade continued, “Or you could give in. Take off the mask. Stop working on the other side of the law. You’re powerful, Theseus, I’ll admit it. You’re a valuable asset, whether you know it or not, and—” a tap on his cheek through the metal bars, “—I’d hate to see so much potential sent to rot.”
// In which Tommy is a blind warden hybrid vigilante, and SBI are the heroes that finally catch him. It goes as well as you might expect.
