The amount of shitty news coming out this week made me feel like this needed to be said, so.

For all the boys and young men currently afraid that being male means some kind of moral death sentence: the same world that produced Neil Gaiman and Donald Trump also produced Levar Burton, Steve from Blues Clues, and my (step)dad, who isn't famous but did look at a deeply traumatized child with a bunch of mental health issues and said "is anybody going to support that?" and then didn't wait for an answer. There are good men out there doing good work in ways both big and small. Choose to use your strength to help rather than hurt, your voice to speak for those who must be silent, and you can be one of them.

Be the man Mister Rogers knew you could be. He wasn't wrong very often, and he believed you could do wonderful things. I do too.

We have this interesting situation where we basically no longer have privacy nor the expectation of privacy, but we also don't have community or meaningful connection with others, so we're all simultaneously both completely exposed and absolutely alone, and please understand that when I say this situation is "interesting", what I in fact mean is that it's "nightmarish and I wish I could wake up"

being so staunchly anti generative ai while everyone around you is "i used chatgpt" and "i asked grok" and google search is useless and every company is implementing ai and every single celeb is taking ai money and partnering with ai is like... it's so jarring. why can't you see the harm like i can? why are you so lazy? why are we making society this stupid? can we please stop? it's killing people does that not matter to you?

Ok not to be stupid but I just saw a play recently based on a Japanese folk tale called the crane wife and after seeing said play and looking into the OG myth its occurred to me this is probably why hit band “the crane wives” called themselves that. Something about being intrinsically different from the people around you. Not feeling entirely human and being disconnected because of that. Suffering for the benefit of others, putting pieces of yourself into your art. The sacrificial nature of love. Not being able to stay with someone once they see you for who they truly are. Idk this is probably common knowledge but I thought it was pretty cool
