Helpful Info for the Family Tree
Just because I realized that I keep posting terms I came up with and I don’t know if I’ve explained them. I’ll probably be linking back to this post a lot when I mention the Three Strict Rules, Changed Cultural Concepts, Definitions, and Guiding Principles
Rules
These are the three hard rules I work with for the family tree rewrite stuff.
1. Three generation separation.
Cats MUST have more than 3 generations of separation to be eligible partners. This means that a hard line is drawn if two cats share a grandparent; no 1st cousin pairings.
- Addendum: This rule applies to an extra generation if the great-grandparent is still alive, or has two or more living children to remember. This is Onestar’s Exception, named for a very uncomfortable scene in his Super Edition.
This is the chart I use for a visual to double-check.
2. Two reproductive kit maximum.
TWO kits of a pairing at maximum can go on to have reproductive grandkits of their own, even though there is no limit on the amount of litters a pairing can produce.
- Exception: A third kit can leave their home clan and have kittens elsewhere.
3. There can be sireless litters.
Queens do not have to reveal the sire of their litters. It’s normal for litters to not have a sire. There are other changes to who can or can’t be the father of a litter, see changed concepts.
Changed Cultural Concepts
1. Queen’s Rights
For an in-depth lesson on this in-universe concept, GO HERE
These are Rights that a queen invokes to not reveal the sire of her litter. It was formed in response to the Mapleshade incident; and is an addendum to the law that all kits must be protected regardless of origin.
The reasoning is that if it’s known that a litter is half-clan, it could force the Clan to enforce consequences on the mother, which could punish the kits for the circumstances of her birth. If a queen has violated the code, it is up to StarClan to judge them.
Sometimes even the suspicion of having half-clan kittens can be detrimental to the parents or the children. The Queen’s Rights replaced and outlawed an older tradition; Kitten Stealing.
2. Honor-siring
It isn’t uncommon for respected warriors or leaders to be asked to surrogate a litter. This does not make the two warriors mates; the two cats might co-parent the litter, or it might just be one.
3. Apprentice/Mentor pairings
Are eliminated in-universe. Completely gone. I will never allow one. Mentors are trusted with an apprentice that they’re supposed to guide into adulthood. For a mentor to take interest in their apprentice, even later in life, is taboo for good reason.
Definitions, Guiding Principles
An Orphan Warrior is what I’m calling canon characters that have no parents, siblings, or kits. Ultimately my goal is to un-orphan every warrior post-Mapleshade’s Vengeance.
I try to limit massive age gaps as much as possible. The acceptable range is 0 - 5 years; more than that usually looks like an honor-siring (such as with Pinestar and Leopardfoot).
I do not create OCs for this rewrite. I either save kits that would have died, shuffle families, rearrange litters, and so on.
For example, Fernsong has been changed into an ex-kittypet, Onestar is no longer the brother of Ashfoot and Morningflower, and several of Su Susann's Missing Kits have been repurposed.
I like to diversify sibling dynamics, to make sure there are more older/younger siblings of varying ages, just because it’s more interesting like that.
I rename ‘duplicate‘ warriors, and the more important warrior gets priority. For example, the Dark Forest’s Frecklewish keeps her name, and SkyClan’s Frecklewish becomes Frecklewing.
I will try to preserve existing families, within reason, if it still works out that their descendants won’t conflict within the 3 generation rule.

Missing Kits Part 1/?
Love em or hate em, you can't deny that the Missing Kits gave some of the best prefixes, and added a little bit of personality onto the poor kiddos forgotten by the 'editing team'.
Lynxkit - Now a fluffy, pale brown tabby molly. She is trained by Tigerclaw initially, which is pointed out as very weird, as he is her father, after his exile she is handed off to Heatherwish, Longtail's sister, and her warrior name is... Lynxpetal! She doesn't take a mate, but has a son during Power of Three.
Blossomkit - Now the daughter of Dawncloud and Stumpytail, Stumpytail won father of the year award by recommending Blossomkit and her brother be trained early. She managed to survive the Windclan raid, and is traumatized heavily by it. As promised, Brokenstar names her an apprentice, his apprentice. He is naming her Blossomclaw just as the Battle For Shadowclan begins. She later becomes mates with Lavenderpool (another missing kit I'll get there) and becomes a Medicine Cat. More on that later.
Swampkit - Now a white tom with a stump tail and pale orange eyes. Swampkit, sadly, was a casualty of the battle. He was shoved away by Bristlethorn and he went tumbling, his head accidentally hitting a rock, killing him in seconds. The few Windclan cats that stayed on the territory found him, and gave him a nice burial.
Elderkit - Now dark gray with a light belly, he survives and overcomes the weakness he had been born with. He is mentored by Russetmoth (OC) at first, then by Chestnutwing after Russet's death, earning the name Eldersong. During The New Prophecy, Eldersong is the final cat to go to the Moonstone and transition. She is renamed Elderleaf!
Tulipkit - Someone else dies of Greencough instead of him. He is mentored by Sweetberry and cares heavily for her after her retirement. His warrior name is... Tulipfur! His mate is... Someone... And his daughter is brought to Thunderclan as they're recovering from the horrible fire in Power Of Three.
More under the cut, there's a lot of em!
Mistlekit - Now a pale gray tabby molly with small ears, Mistlekit survives her whitecough and grows up! Her mentor is Cricketfang, Dappletail and Stormpelt's son. Her warrior name is Mistleberry, and she becomes mates with Stempelt, the son of Runningwind and... Redtail. Redtail died before their Shadowclan surrogate gave birth. She has 2 children with Stempelt.
Eaglekit - Eaglekit lives! His mentor is Bristlethorn and his warrior name is Eaglefoot. He is a good guy, and mentors Tawnyfur. Unfortunately, he is one of the poisoned rabbit deaths during The New Prophecy. He would have been Tallerstar's replacement choice, too...
Quailkit - Now a ginger tom with amber eyes. Gorsepaw's brother. Like Gorsepaw, he lives too. He is mentored by Oatwhisker and his warrior name is Quailclaw for his hot temper. He never takes a mate, and dies during The Hopeless Storm, saving Nightcloud and Pickletail.
Storkkit - Sadly, Storkkit is still born sleeping due to how much stress Morningflower was under. She is seen in Starclan though as Storkbreeze. She would have been an incredible Medicine Cat, the Windclan Raid should have never happened.
Hillkit - Crowfeather's brother, mentioned to look just like their mother Ashfoot. He was mentored by Darkfoot, his grandpa, and supports Mudclaw during his attempted coup. His warrior name is Hillfang, but he is killed during the Battle.
Downkit - Now a pure black fluffy molly with green eyes. While Downkit survives her birth and is mentored by Onewhisker, Downpaw sadly passes from eating a poisoned rabbit with her big brother Eaglefoot.
Morningkit - Graypool's daughter. Sadly, she born asleep, but Mistystar gets to see her during her leadership ceremony, she doesn't have a life to give, but gives Mistystar congratulations and reassurance.
Splashkit - Graypool's son. A victim of Fading Kitten Syndrome. His death sends Graypool into a deep depression. He is now a little copy of his sire, Rippleclaw.
Swankit - Now a pretty white tom with a black face, black chest and yellow eyes. He survives the winter and is mentored by Marshcloud, becoming Swancall for his lovely voice. He is also the mate of Vixenleap and has 4 children with her. He dies during the Bloodclan Battle and will give Mistystar a life.
Wildfur - He is NOT Snowbird's son now, instead he is the son Frostwave and an unkown tom! His spine is broken during Long Shadows. The fire spread onto the edge of Thunderclan territory to Shadowclan, and a tree falls on him. His lungs are weakened from some smoke inhalation, and while he does retire (he also says "I've been a Stars-Blessed hunter for more moons than I can count! I've earned it.") The ensuing whitecough he contracts that winter is simply too much to bare, and he dies in Cruel Season.
Nightwing - Now the daughter of Frostwave and an unknown tom. She no longer participates in the Mudclaw Onewhisker battle, still grieving her missing son and praying for her other son's recovery. She is an elder after The Great Battle and passes away from Yellowcough. Tigerstar announces their birth because Nightstar never got to.
Snaketail - Born to Tallpoppy and Blackfoot, though his parents quickly split up during Tigerclan. He is much more battle hungry, and sucked in to the Dark Forest and fights for them during The Great Battle, dying when he tries to attack the Windclan nursery. He looks like a poofier Tallpoppy with extra toes. His mentor is Russetfur.
Smokefoot - He is now named Firwish. He is also now a white with brown tabby patches and yellow eyes, also born to Blackfoot and Tallpoppy. His mentor is Boulder. As a reference to his canon name, he also loses one of his feet due to injuries during The Eclipse Battle.
Marshkit - The son of Tallpoppy and a kittypet. He is now dark brown with white paws and soft fur. He gets caught in a fox trap, but survives with heavy scarring around his neck. He is mentored by Wildfur, and named Marshscar.
Oatkit - Description now switched with Waterkit. She is now a ginger and white tabby molly. Sadly, she is still a stillborn. She is seen during Leopardstar's Leader ceremony, but doesn't give her a life.
Waterkit - Now a light golden trans molly with very faint dapples and amber eyes. She transitioned late in her apprenticeship. She is the sister Leopardstar pushed away for more power and strength. She gets together with Tangleburr thanks to Tigerclan, and sires 3 kits, though only 1 survives...
Carpkit - Sadly, this little guy still doesn't make it, but now he looks like a copy of Mudfur with a white belly. He now gives Leopardstar a life for Acceptance.
Dawnflower - New name for her! Her name is now Paleflower. She is Mosspelt's daughter, the father being Mudthorn, who has been taken and repurposed. She is Minnowtail's momma, remember? Lots of M names in the family.
There are still a LOT more. Hold on for part 2!
