I dislike when people act like animatronics are scrap metal when they’re damaged. Sure it’s going to be harder to restore a headless character, or to find/make the pieces you’re missing, but if it was built from the ground up in the first place then it’s able to be built again. I've got a lot here as a follow up because once again, your ideas inspire me anon! Prepare for a wall of text!

Rodimus

·He's not necessarily surprised, because your species is so incredibly soft, why not have humans who specialize in using that talent? But he's still never considered it before, and is curious as to how one becomes a "proffesional" at something so basic, and what kind of training it could possibly entail.

·Hearing that it's more for humans who have endured trauma, or humans who come from cultures or backgrounds where such contact is frowned upon, makes him a little sad. He's an affectionate bot and can't imagine not having access to something so simple, but then realizes their own species could perhaps do with some physical affection based therapy, not that he feels qualified to suggest such a thing...

Drift

·After a brief request for more information he's delighted by the sound of the practice, even if he doesn't have all the details. Creating harmony through positive energy and healing through affection is a personal ideal of his, and to hear another species practicing it is quite uplifting!

·It's unfortunate it isn't widely practiced, but the mere fact it exists is enough to give him some inspiration, so he asks for as many facts as you can give. With a bit of planning he absolutely intends to pursue this for Cybertronians, even if by just bringing it up as a proposal, and hopefully Ratchet will be willing to give it a chance!

Ultra Magnus/Minimus Ambus

·Initially he needs you to repeat yourself and explain in more depth, because he's certain he heard you wrong. How can one do something so common "professionally"? It takes a fair amount of conversation and a lot of context for him to understand the therapeutic aspect, which he begins to see once you also lay out what a social species humans are and how damaging solitude can be.

·The idea of healing through affectionate contact is something he can grasp, at least. Cybertronians aren't so different, though many such needs have long been neglected, and he is doubtful it could catch on until a significant amount of restoration is done. He'd be interested in seeing it happen, and can see how it would benefit a war ravaged population, provided there is proper licencing for those who wish to pursue it.

Ratchet

·He's immediately intrigued, but not at all surprised, and discusses the similarities such a practice reveals between humans and Cybertronians. As imposing as bots may be, they're still a social species, and a lack of physical affection can do great harm. Also like humans, bots tend to be unaware of the depth of the need until they're suffering.

·Talking about it really gets him thinking. They've neglected a lot to win the war, and now that they're here, needs like this should come back into focus. It would certainly be worth it to encourage such things where he can, even if bots don't understand or believe in the benefits. They may not have proffesional cuddlers, but this ship is undoubtedly bursting with lonely bots who'd be willing to give it a try.

Rung

·As a kind of therapy, it's entirely new to him, but the benefits are exceptionally clear even before you elaborate. Bots are a caring and tender species under all that armor, despite the image the war has created, so he can see that humans would find solace in such a thing due to their similarities. Being a proponent of slow and measured healing also makes the idea quite agreeable.

·He discusses the possible changes one would have to make for Cybertronians, which would probably be somewhat significant due to their differences in size, anatomy, and cultural practices. The basic idea could still stay though, especially for the many traumatized not just by battle, but by the shortage of tender intimacy the war created in its stead. He'll absolutely write a paper on this, and he actually feels it's worth publishing! Should you suggest he'd be a natural at providing such care he will blush for a multitude of reasons.

Swerve

·He keeps it to himself, but his first emotion is one of absolute longing. Someone to just hold you, and comfort you, with the skill of a therapist but the gentle embrace of a friend? He plays it off like he sees it as another quirky human thing, but he subtly prods for more information under the veneer of casual conversation, and starts wishing his own kind had an equivalent.

·As much as he'd prefer having someone who just wants to be with him like that as a friend, the idea of a proffesional is still tempting beyond belief, and he wonders if the increased interaction between your species might make some bots pick up the trade. Just enjoying the simple, uninterrupted company of another for a bit would be heavenly, but he's absolutely not willing to say that out loud.

Skids

·Knowing that slow and steady therapy works, he can definitely see that being helpful, even if he doubts he'd ever get anything out of something like that. He likes to move and have fun when he socializes, and sitting still with someone would probably just end in a nap for him, not that he minds the idea of that too much...

·One thing he is curious about is the statistics of the occupation, as baffling as they may be. Why are the proffesionals mostly female and the clients mostly male? Don't humans, like bots, long for affection no matter their physical makeup? An explanation of stereotypes and gender roles and everything involved on that front just makes him think he needs a drink.

Whirl

·Of course he cracks a few jokes about tiny squishy humans needing to be mushed, but it's in good humor, because he actually gets it pretty much right away. The whole idea is a sappy one, but all of therapy is sappy, and you can thank brains for being so darn easy to trick up with feelings for that little design flaw.

·He explains that the biggest part of you to hurt when someone screws you over is your sense of trust, so something that makes you be super vulnerable is obviously the way to fix it, at least for some. After emphasizing how he'd never benefit from such a thing, he posits that cuddling is potentially the most dangerous thing you can do, making folks willing to try it on thr regular with strangers pretty damn brave. His logic on the ease of stabbing while snuggling is not one you can argue.

Chromedome

·Fully aware of the chaos life can bring, he immediately gets why someone would want a little time to relax with someone calm, even if it's more of a clinical session than a platonic bonding. Admittedly the lack of concrete guidelines does worry him a little once he hears the qualifications are rather loose, but is anything perfect?

·Being a bot who fully gets how desperate a suffering individual will go, he can't help but consider what a benefit such simple pain relief could be, but also mourns for those who don't have access to something so... basic. Suffice to say he gets ample cuddling, and knows full well how precious every moment is.

Rewind

·Being so focused on memory has taught him the emotional impact even a little encounter can have, so he isn't at all surprised some species would have learned to utilize this, only that his own hasn't. Being such a varied and armored species can make any intimacy difficult, but that hardly means they're strangers to snuggling after all.

·The thought of such loneliness can't help but make him a little sad, especially when he learns many of the humans seeking out this service are in relationships. Not a day goes by for him without hand holding or hugs or nuzzles... He hopes your species makes this more common as therapy for their own sake.

Cyclonus

·Initially he's a bit bewildered, though many aspects of earth culture bewilder him, and further discussion does little to help him grasp the concept or its benefits. It seems silly and, at least internally, he can't help but perceive it as inappropriate. It isn't until you elaborate on why humans seek this service out that he begins to get some clarity.

·Hearing about how many human cultures frown on caring contact in virtually any situation, even between partners, is a little alarming. He knows the struggle of expressing emotions after even allowing yourself to feel them, but to be so caged by tradition that one needs secret contact with a proffesional for a taste of warmth or companionship... well, that's unfortunate.

Tailgate

·Immediately you see him perk up, as if the mere mention of cuddling catches his attention. He asks lots of questions, some on the proffesion and others on the ways humans express care, and while saddened that the job is needed he's happy that help is there for those who need it.

·You're then given an enthusiastic but confidential talk on how he's finally getting all the hugs he needs with Cyclonus, who will never admit it but he's certain is benefiting from the cuddling as much as he is. While not aware of the six million years he was out, it's felt as if his body is, and thus he's been eagerly catching up with loving snuggles whenever possible. Speaking of which, want a hug?

Velocity

·She's not at all caught off guard by the idea, as it makes a lot of sense for the sake of mental health, especially to a doctor of a species that could use the practice. While Caminus has been spared the war between factions, it's unfortunately not a haven for emotional wellbeing either. The need to stand out and meet cultural requirements of frugality forces many to be just as reserved with their needs as the humans seeking out help that you describe.

·She wonders if it'd be possible to introduce something like that to her own people, if not on Cybertron. But there's a lot of cultural resistance, just as she's sure you've seen on earth, to taking care of oneself even for such a basic need. She expresses respect for humans on actually taking the steps to improve.

Nautica

·As with all new things, she's immediately interested in learning the full depth of the subject, both inside and out. If you don't know it all that's okay! She can just plough through a few books and then she'll feel like she's got it down! This means she wants to know about human therapy, affection, cultural hindrances, the neurochemtistry of physical contact... Anything you know to start on these subjects would be helpful.

·Before and after her quick study break, her biggest takeaway is the huge taboo humans have placed on touching, something she can barely wrap her head around. Sure, bots have unnecessary hangups as well, but casual taction just... happens? Why would any culture have issues with that? Even as someone who occasionally trips up and crosses physical boundaries, she knows that space is important, but it's not meant to be a barrier. You'll let her know if you need a break from what sounds like an exhausting mindset, won't you? She's always here for a quick hug or even just a shoulder pat!

Megatron

·All talk of human culture once made him cringe, not out of disgust, but out of an admittedly deserved guilt. With you he's at least opening up to conversation on the topic, and this is one of the things he needs a bit of elaboration on, as his bafflement is so great you can see it on his face. His experience with physical affection being nonexistent doesn't make it any easier for him to follow.

·When you mention the concept of being "touch starved" he finally gets it, but has a less than thrilling realization himself. He's never heard a word describe his deeply buried longing so effectively, and your talk of earth culture occasionally stifling people to the point of needing these services strikes a nerve he hadn't known was so tender. As with every other vulnerability in his life, he buries it down and secures the weakness firmly away, keeping his expression neutral as he pretends the topic is just another curiosity.

I disagree obviously. Just because Brienne is not a demon doesn't mean she doesn't have flaws or she's a bad character lol. Like... why can't we have an angel in a world of monsters? What's wrong with that? Are these people jealous that Brienne is one of those pure character that their faves are not, so they feel like dismissing her as a bad character to make themselves feel good? I mean this has a long answer to give but this *meta* seems to me like it was written by someone who has no idea what they’re talking about when it comes to who grrm hates in his writing or his supposed misogyny because they have it all wrong and I think you pretty much guessed the point, but in order, let’s... tackle this one by one:

grrm doesn’t at all hate cat and sansa and their flaws are... flaws in the sense that he’s writing them like good people who aren’t 100% perfect but like.. sansa’s *flaws* from the beginning are stuff that’s common to most 12yo girls in existence and she overcomes them and she’s generally a good and kind and caring person whose main trait is that she’s good and kind and stays like that so how exactly now she’s written... like you’re supposed to hate her? bc she’s not. grrm never wanted you to hate sansa. he wrote her like a realistic 11-15yo but like most of us were like that at that age or have had friends who were like that, so... what the fuck. catelyn.... like guys the one heavy flaw she has is her treatment of jon but she’s written as a smart person who’s trying to live in a misogynistic society as best as she can and she’s written like a tragic character but grrm obviously likes her/loves writing her, it’s.... like if you read her chapters you can see how much work/love/craft went into them and how he worked on her bg very carefully also she is more of a protagonist than ned until asos when it comes to the stark side like.... how is giving her human flaws meaning he hates her?? grrm doesn’t hate her. the fact that she and brienne end up doing the knightly/lady sworn sword thing is even more of a proof he doesn’t but more on that later;

Hey, not weird at all! I just got mine mid March, but I haven’t noticed it being slow at all! My laptop completely died on me during midterm season and I had a ton of papers and online exams to do, so my plan was to just use this in the meantime and return it to best buy as soon as my work was done and then I could buy an actual laptop. I obviously decided to keep it. I would recommend using a Chromebook for schooling, but only if it’s not going to be your primary device at home like it is mine (if you spend a ton of time on it, anyway)

First off, before I go into pros and cons (no false sense of hope here… under the cut I’ll tell you everything I love about it and everything I hate or get annoyed at), I should mention I’m using the Samsung Chromebook Plus 

All in all, I LOVE my chromebook. It’s got its flaws, but most of them have easy fixes. I hope this full length article helps you decide what to do! If your main concern is getting you through school/work, I say go for it! 

8/10 would recommend! I’d love to say 10/10, but there are enough flaws that I can’t in good conscience tell you to go get yourself a chromebook knowing it does some real stupid stuff.

Pros:

lightweight - seriously, I spent all day on campus carrying my Dell around in my bookbag and I’ve never been one to have back problems but carrying it around all day hurt. Sometimes I’d literally just abandon my bookbag (with my laptop in it) in the hall in one of the academic buildings while I went to find something to eat all the way across campus. Like, seriously. According to google the UCF campus is 1415 acres. I don’t even feel weight from my Chromebook while I’m walking campus with it in my bag.

Convenience - It’s essentially half laptop, half tablet. You’re getting the best of both worlds. Google play store (so you can play games and use the device as an e-reader) but you also get the internet at full capacity rather than the dullness of a mobile browser.

Stylus apps - This stylus was a lifesaver for me last semester. I had college algebra last semester, and with math I’m always wasting a ton of paper, so I bought a whiteboard I could carry around with me but it took up too much space at the desks in classrooms. With a Chromebook, Google Keep (note taking app) is built in. when I didn’t feel like wasting space (and dropping my calculator, pen, eraser, markers, board) I could just pull up my stylus apps on half my screen and my math modules on the other half.

Also, have you seen my newer editing attempts? Working with just my finger on this device was already pretty good, compared to on my phone. But using the stylus helped me to get a clearer view of everything I was erasing and more wiggle control

Quick boot up time - In the manual, it claims that the chromebook boots up in 10 seconds. I’ve found that it takes about half that time to start up

2 in one - it does have 360 mode, so you don’t have to use it as a laptop all the time. In tablet mode, you get all the essential uses you get in laptop mode (except the ability to split the screen) plus you can use emojis on the touchscreen keyboard that pops up

Apple Music - On my samsung tablet, I can’t access apple music (the app shows up, but I can’t download it). On chromebook, I can. No itunes though, which is a bummer, but I don’t really need it.

Easy streaming - Watching Netflix/Hulu is such a breeze. I haven’t experienced any buffering issues like i constantly did with my last laptop

Amazing touchscreen - With my Dell laptop (which, again, gave out on me) my touch screen often had meltdowns or prevented my touchpad from working. Seeing as how Samsung has essential experience in touchscreen development, I’m not shocked that I’ve never had an issue with this touchscreen

Have trouble remembering urls? no more - Built into the computer, you have what appear to be google (and other brand) apps, but they’re actually shortcuts that take you directly to their respectful websites. Google drive (which is also built in through the files app), Lookout, Google Maps, Weather Channel, etc. I don’t use them, but it’s such a great gesture.

Memory - I use a lot of space and I haven’t even begun to run out yet! There’s also a slot for external memory (an SD card like what you’d insert into your phone something I wish Apple would do instead of making me pay for more storage every month. Unfortunately for me, this doesn’t work for apps. It’s only so that you have another storage method for your files. After my previous laptop died I lost all my running club pics, so with this chromebook, I have the option to just go ahead and save them directly to my SD card so that doesn’t happen again. It’s kind of like using a flash drive for safe keeping except, ya know, it’s not a flash drive replacement.

It’s made to fit YOU - If you don’t want someone to get into your files, they can’t. You sign in with your google account, but you CAN create additional user accounts (which includes a guest account)

Resetting the computer is easy! - You can’t go wrong. Your options are

restore default settings

COMPLETELY wipe the computer of all info (the option you’d choose if you wanted the get rid of the computer, so it’s essentially… factory reset)

Virus control - While there’s no harm in buying yourself an antivirus program, you don’t necessarily need it with Chromebook because google’s actively fighting off viruses for you. I started out using antivirus programs before I realized I didn’t need it. I haven’t had any issues at all with the security of my computer, with or without any kind of protection

Cons

Limited keys - You have to make sure you remember key combinations to perform certain tasks. For example, at first I thought I couldn’t get caps lock on this computer. To do that, it’s alt+search key. scroll to the top of the page? alt+ctrl+up arrow. screenshot in laptop mode? still can’t remember which symbol matches up with that one.

Ctrl Alt…. What? - You don’t have control alt delete anymore. The task manager apparently can only be accessed through settings, which if your chromebook freaks out on you either wait for it to settle down or shut it down are your only two options. Which brings us to con #3.

Freaking out - Lately I’ve been noticing that if I have too many apps open at once, my chromebook will stop funtioning properly for a couple minutes and it’ll do one of two things

shut all my apps down without warning

system reboot

Google Print - It wants to hijack your printer, but I refuse to give google access to store info from my printer. I have my Canon hooked up to my chromebook, but I won’t allow google access to it. They’re basically asking to save the info of everything you print to their servers and your printer will only be available for devices you allow access to your google print account (can’t be set up from chromebook anyway).

USB C ports - Okay admittedly I do like these ports, It serves as the charging port, so you can charge the computer on either side. You can also use it as a normal USB port so long as you find devices with the usb c tip BUT this means you need to buy an adapter if you want to use HDMI or a flash drive/other devices that use usb 2.0/3.0 ports

Speaker location - They’re on the bottom, so as long as you’re not covering them up, your audio should be pretty decent

Digital Textbook app used for UCF - Okay so we use Yuzu for digital textbooks at my uni and I can’t figure out how to get the app to let me in. Pretty sure that’s the app’s fault though. You have to sign in through a mobile browser to use the app, but the chromebook uses a full capacity desktop browser so I CANT log into the app. I have to use the online version if I take my chromebook to school with me instead of my actual tablet. Unfortunately, Aranea being there does mean that Gallus is basically locked into the Azura's Star side of the quest, but he most likely wouldn't have gone to Nelacar for the Black Star anyway, right?

Arc 2: A Dream of Despair

Arc 2, Chapter 6 ~ Arc 2, Chapter 8

In retrospect, rushing headlong into a semi-collapsed fort full of necromancers may not have been the best idea Gallus has ever had. It isn’t even close to the best idea Gallus has ever had, not that he keeps track of those. If anything, it’s close to the worse idea he’s ever had, which he does keep track of - for some reason. Now, however, is probably not the time to question his current life decisions. Granted, it never is the time to question his current life decisions, but right after he’s been unceremoniously sent flying into the wall by an atronach really isn’t the right time. It isn’t even close. In fact, he probably should be focusing a bit more on the fact that if he’s not careful, he’s going to die.

Gallus rolls out of the way of the frost atronach’s punch just in time - its fist gets stuck in the wall where his head was moments before,  ha - and shakily stands. His ears are still ringing, because of course they are, and his sheath is empty. Considering that his sword isn’t in his grip, it has to be somewhere nearby. At least, he hopes it’s somewhere nearby. If it’s not, then… he’s definitely got a problem, and a big one.

But first things first.  Even if the atronach currently has one fist, or whatever it’s called, stuck in the wall, it can still pack a punch with the other. So, Gallus wisely takes a couple of big steps back, readies a Courage spell, and uses it on himself to take the edge off the pain for now.

Fuck atronachs. He needs to remember for future reference that necromancers were conjurers first, and can still conjure plenty of nasty things from Oblivion if there aren’t any corpses handy. Apparently.

The atronach roars, whether in anger or in pain, Gallus can’t tell. In truth he’s not sure he wants to know, and as long as it’s stuck, he has other things to worry about. He quickly focuses on his sword, casts Clairvoyance, and-

Are you kidding me, Gallus thinks to himself, because the spell very clearly leads to the rather pissed off frost conjuration still stuck in the wall. He can see his sword under it now and, while it would be easy to take down the atronach if he used fire, he couldn’t manage a Flames spell if he tried.

And he has tried.

So this is how it is: he needs his sword to fight the atronach, but he needs to deal with the atronach to get his sword back, because of course he does. Funny how that works.

A cry from behind him draws his attention, and he sees Erandur and Aranea facing off against a pair of necromancers: one of whom conjured the frost atronach, the other - oh gods that guy reanimated his friend! In any case, dubious morality of the necromancers aside, Aranea took a rather nasty hit to her side, but is otherwise okay. So’s Erandur, and, once Gallus is satisfied they’ll be fine for the time being, he looks around for something he can use to fight the frost atronach.

He could try punching it but, for one thing he’s not at all optimistic about his hand-to-hand skills, and for another, it would be like punching an iceberg - a really big, really pissed off iceberg. Or a wall, except unlike the atronach, Gallus is pretty sure he’d just break his hand. A Calm spell might work long enough for him to get his sword, but his spells tend not to work on atronachs, for whatever reason. It’s probably just that he needs more practice.

His gaze finds a torch, dropped by one of the necromancers and somehow, despite the exceedingly damp conditions, still alight. He grabs it, and holds it between him and the atronach as he advances, slowly and cautiously.

“Nice atronach,” Gallus tries, looking it where he figures its eyes would be if it had any. Naturally, he doesn’t get any further, because the atronach roars and swings wildly with its free fist. Clearly, it’s not in the mood for small talk. Gallus sidesteps it, stumbles a little, but manages to jab the atronach with the flaming end of the torch.

Gallus would be a lot more satisfied about the fact that the thing’s now starting to melt into a messy little puddle of icy hatred if his ears weren’t still ringing and his head didn’t hurt far too much. He shakes his head quickly in the hope that the ringing will get better. It doesn’t. It actually gets worse, much to Gallus’ chagrin. Oh well. He’ll ask Erandur about it when he gets a chance.

As the atronach finishes melting, Gallus dashes forward to grab his sword from underneath a pile of disgusting, melted frost atronach goop. He wipes it off on his mage robes - he really needs to get something other than mage robes, because it’s a pain to fight in these - but now that the atronach’s dealt with, he can worry about Erandur and Aranea.

Fortunately, what Gallus keeps forgetting is that they’re competent fighters too. Probably more so than him, considering they don’t have amnesia and about a month’s worth of memories. The necromancer that summoned the atronach is down, the other necromancer reanimated within seconds of his death is down, and Erandur is fixing up Aranea as Gallus comes over.

“Maybe a stealthy approach might be better from here,” Gallus offers, and leans a little bit heavier than maybe he should on the wall. “I don’t think anyone other than those two heard us, thankfully. Probably because of the noise from the water.”

“Yes, it is on the loud side in here,” Erandur agrees. He nods to Aranea, stands, and heads over to Gallus. That’s when his face falls. “Mara’s Mercy, Gallus, you look terrible. We were fighting different enemies for five minutes.”

“In my defense,” Gallus grins sheepishly, “I wasn’t expecting an atronach.”

“Necromancers are still conjurers,” Aranea says, maybe a little too matter-of-factly, but Gallus isn’t particularly bothered. Even if he’d already figured that bit out himself. “Granted, they are the worst kind of conjurers, and there are those who consider necromancy to be its own school of magic, so it’s not a hard mistake to make. Just be careful.”

“When have I not been careful?”

Erandur clears his throat. “I can name several times when I’ve been with you, and I’m willing to bet that your friends back at the College of Winterhold can name twice that easily,” he smirks.

“Twice that is… honestly being generous,” Gallus shrugs. “Also, my ears are ringing, that might be a problem?”

Erandur’s smirk disappears, and he groans, “Your ears are ringing? That’s not good.”

“I figured. Definitely did hit my head somewhere, that still hurts.”

Aranea looks to Erandur with a frown, “Do you think-?”

“Concussion,” Erandur agrees. “Not a severe one, or he wouldn’t be walking, never mind fighting. Still a problem.”

“I’m fine, really,” Gallus shrugs. “We’ve got a necromancer and a Daedric artifact to find, don’t we?”

Both Erandur and Aranea look skeptical, but the group continues deeper into the semi-flooded fort, albeit with a lot more stealth this time, and with a lot less major injuries. It helps that Aranea, at least, can heal herself, although Erandur’s the Restoration mage here. Aranea’s more of a jack of all trades, when it comes to her magic. (Although, Gallus notices with a hint of pride, he hasn’t seen her or Erandur cast an Illusion spell yet. Ha.)

It’s when they’re nearing what Gallus sincerely hopes is the final chamber that they hear voices, one of which might possibly/hopefully be Malyn Veren himself. Gallus stops just outside the doorway - his stealth skills are pretty good, but there’s being sneaky and being in plain sight - and listens.

“More souls are needed for the Star. The last one died before he could be harvested.”

“We can’t take another villager from the surface so soon. I told you to prepare everything properly.”

“We can just sacrifice another disciple. Apprentice Haerlon will be no great waste.”

“Yes. He’ll do.”

Both are clearly necromancers, and both are clearly talking about Azura’s Star itself. One of the voices is clearly a woman, so definitely not Malyn. The other… possibly. Maybe. The knowledge that whoever these two necromancers are, they’d be more than willing to sacrifice one of their own… it makes Gallus sick to his stomach. Or maybe that’s the concussion.

He glances back to Erandur and Aranea, only to realize that Aranea isn’t there. By the time he figures out where Aranea is, she’s halfway inside the chamber, a plain-looking dagger in her hands and murder in her eyes. Which,  well. Considering what he knows about the Dunmer people’s position on necromancy, and seeing as these particular necromancers have stolen Azura’s Star, he can see why Aranea’s pissed.

Gallus watches, silently, not trusting himself to follow without tripping over something, as she sneaks up behind the closer of the two and slits his throat. He falls, and his partner stumbles back, shouting something, but whatever it was she doesn’t last long. A fireball from Erandur catches her square in the chest, and the second necromancer falls.

“We still have a bit to go,” Aranea says shakily, slipping her dagger back where it came from. “And I’m not certain what we’ll find.”

“Neither are we,” Erandur points out. “Let’s go.” He looks to Gallus, who nods, and the trio continues through Ilinalta’s Deep, offing necromancer after necromancer as they go. And then, in the final room, they find Malyn Veren.

The only problem is, he’s not exactly alive. His skeleton is sitting on a throne, looking completely relaxed, not to mention quite obviously dead. Azura’s Star - or at least, Gallus hopes that’s Azura’s Star, although it really doesn’t look to be in the best condition - lies at his feet, and to the side there’s a book with a bloodstained cover.

Aranea immediately goes for the Star. She picks it up gingerly, examines it and, while she’s frowning and looks vaguely horrified at how outright  broken  it looks, she nods, silently. This is definitely it. Erandur, meanwhile, kneels next to the bloodstained book - a journal, maybe? - and begins leafing through it. Gallus finds himself staring into the cold, dead gaze of Malyn Veren himself.

Pity you’re already dead, Gallus thinks to himself. I was almost looking forward to killing you myself.

“This is it,” Aranea whispers, “but I- something’s gone wrong. I don’t know what. I wish I did. Lady Azura may have some insight, but… we’ll have to return to the Shrine to ask her.”

“It looks like he at least thought he was succeeding,” Erandur nods to the necromancer’s bones with a scowl. “It’s quite clear from this that he lost it some time ago, but other than that… it seems almost like he’s put his own soul into the Star, but that can’t be right.”

“No, it can’t,” Gallus agrees. He still hasn’t torn his gaze away from Malyn’s empty eye sockets. “Why would he do that? Also- how?”

“Maybe if he had one of his followers cast a Soul Trap on him,” Aranea muses, “but I’m not certain the Star is even functional in this condition. It’s all but falling apart as we speak.” She’s cradling Azura’s Star to her chest gingerly, like she’s afraid it’ll disintegrate if she lets go of it. Which, granted, it very well might.

The most intact-looking part of it - the black soul gem inlaid in the middle, which probably isn’t actually supposed to be there, come to think of it - has some nasty looking cracks in it, one of which is so deep that any significant jostling might break the Star in two.

Once, before Malyn Veren got his hands on it, Azura’s Star might have looked a lot like a stylized eight-pointed star, much like the one Azura’s typically depicted holding. He’s pretty sure the statue of Azura at the shrine is holding something quite similar to this, actually.

“That’s probably his fault,” Gallus concludes. “And if we need to get Azura’s input, we should probably get back to Winterhold.”

He can figure out his own position on Azura and Daedric Princes as a whole later. Even so, Nelecar’s words echo in his head.

“Look, I don’t care who asked you to find the Star, but don’t take it back to Azura. The Daedra are evil. They’re the reason Malyn went insane.”

Maybe, but… was it really a smart idea on Malyn’s part to piss off a Daedric Prince who was capable of driving him insane in the first place? Gallus glances down at Erandur as he climbs up the ladder to a trapdoor and, hopefully, a way out. Their gazes meet, and Erandur’s own words on the subject come to mind.

"I may be a priest of Mara, but that doesn’t mean I can’t acknowledge Azura as one of the more benevolent Daedric Lords, if not the most benevolent.”

If all Daedric Princes were evil, Erandur would know that better than anyone, considering his history with Vaermina. And, if he’s on-board with helping out Aranea, assuming it’s not just because he’s quite clearly head over heels for her, then Gallus supposes he can be, too.

Speaking of Aranea, her words too come to mind as Gallus pushes open the trapdoor and climbs out into the open air of Falkreath Hold.

“The visions are a gift. Azura warns me of tragedy, war, death before it happens. I won’t leave her guidance.”

Aranea seems to think of Azura in an almost personal way, although it’s quite clear she reveres Azura just as much as Erandur reveres Mara, if not even more. Her entire way of life revolves around Azura and, while Gallus can’t imagine himself being happy that way, she certainly seems to be.

With that settled, it’s almost dark, and the trio has just enough time to get back to Falkreath before night falls. The carriage driver there outright refuses to take them back, and no amount of flattery or gold can change his mind. So, they stay at the local inn, which is named the Dead Man’s Drink for some reason. And they say necromancers are morbid.

Fortunately, there’s enough rooms for everyone to get one of their own and, while the innkeeper does mention something about how there’s been a lot of traffic through Falkreath lately and something about a lot of Dunmer, too, Gallus doesn’t pay much attention.

He’s far too tired, and concussion be damned, he’s going to sleep and nothing is going to stop him.

(In retrospect, that may not have been the best idea on Gallus’ part, but it’s not like he has a history of making terrible decisions and having to figure out how to deal with the aftermath of them later.)

I’ve been too busy playing for an update. I guess I should fix that.

After my earlier adventure into unknown territory ended in a terrified retreat, I got myself back on the proper path and arrived in Hateno Village. Before I checked out the lab, I explored the village and found a nice dye shop that could dye my outfit, so I experimented with that. And then I found this very obviously gay guy:

He was a builder and he and his people were tearing down this unused house. And there was an offer among the conversation options to buy it from him? Of course, it was waaaay too expensive... But Bolson offered to bring the price down to 3000 if Link also brought him 30 bundles of wood. ...Which was still too expensive at this point in time. I explored the town some more and discovered a furnace with blue fire. There were a bunch of torches around town, so I set about lighting them all, and eventually found my way up to the lab where I was actually supposed to be going and lit the furnace there. That was apparently what I was supposed to do, because the little girl inside commented on it. And she recognised Link!

This little cutie was actually over 100 years old! She looked like a kid because of an experiment gone wrong, which I found out by reading her diary was because she had tested an anti-ageing rune on herself. Which she had been working on use on old soldiers to build up the Hyrulean army before Calamity Ganon arrived. And she’s the one who put Link in the Shrine of Resurrection and, as I later found out, Impa’s older sister! Using the power from the furnace I fixed, she repaired Link’s Sheikah Slate which added the Camera and Hyrule Compendium. There were a bunch of photos already on it, and Purah said that Zelda had probably taken them, and directed Link back to Impa for more info. She could also upgrade some of the slate’s features for Guardian parts! The only one I couldn’t upgrade was Stasis because I had never even seen the Ancient Cores required. And speaking with her assistant linked my Sheikah sensor with the Hyrule compendium so that I could take photos of things and then use the sensor to search for them! A very handy feature. :3

At this point I thought I’d try out some of my amiibo. Obviously, the first was my Wolf Link amiibo, which I made sure had full hearts the day before I got this game. I tried out the Smash Zelda amiibo I had too, and they gifted treasure and resources. But I got something special from the Link one:

So I’m guessing this is why there were conflicting reports about Epona being in the game. She’s only in it if you scan her in. (Presumably. I don’t know if you can find her somewhere else and this is a way to get her early.) Also:

Hee.~ I returned to Kakariko, and Impa suggested visiting the places where the pictures were taken in order to see if it’d help his memory return. While I was in the village, I found this guy who had a lead on where one could find a Great Fairy who was said to reside nearby. He wanted a picture of her fountain in exchange for the information. I found her easily enough, but her power was much reduced. She wanted 100 Rupees to restore her power, and fortunately I had more than enough to do it. And it’s just as well, because she provides a valuable service:

He was able to identify the place as being at the base of Mount Lanayru to the north. I’d also come across another person who had suggested that Mount Lanayru was important: there was a Spring of Wisdom up there said to have been used by Zelda herself.

But instead of going there, I wanted to explore the western regions of the map. While I was heading there, I found a sidequest involving these guys looking for treasure:

YOU CAN RIDE BEARS!!! ...Of course, you can’t register them at the stable and they’ll run off as soon as you jump off, but it’s still fun! Anyway, I moved on to the west and ended up near Lake Hylia. And it was around that area that I stumbled on my first memory, completely by accident. I spotted a glowing area and went up to investigate. And it triggered a memory of Link and Zelda taking shelter from the rain. Link was practising with his sword, and Zelda complimented his commitment to his training.

One of them mentioned rumours about a GIANT HORSE which I just had to investigate. ...Of course, the guy also mentioned seeing a monster that looked a lot like a horse when he went to check it out himself, which meant a LYNEL. So I took the careful route of approaching from the mountaintop and sure enough there were TWO Lynels along the way. At the dead end of the area, I found the largest herd of horses I’d seen so far, along with one big one, and went down to try to catch him. But he was clever and always ran off when I got close, even when I was sneaking up.  Eventually I went back up the mountain and glided down onto his back from there. I required a Stamina Elixir to break him, but in the end I was successful!

This one is very obviously a descendant of Ganondorf’s horse! Of course, I then had a new problem: this beast of a horse would not go faster than a canter, and I had two Lynels to get past to get it out of here. Instead of doing that, I tried forcing him up the mountain, bit by bit, and I successfully got him out of there! And I found another stable nearby to register him at! I called him Demise. :) At that stable, I also did a little horseriding minigame that got me a fancy new saddle and bridle to use, and there was a girl there who would swap out gear and change your horse’s mane, so I prettied Boon up:

Couldn’t change anything about Epona though. (Not that I’d really want to!) There are also options to give your horse a mane in blue and pink etc, it’s amazing. I also found a new GreatFairy Fountain in this area. The fairy there needed 1000 Rupees to regain her power, but she also provides a valuable service:

I wandered around this area a bit more. I explored Faron Woods for a bit and found Lake Floria, where I spotted that dragon again. There was another stable in that area. And I found a nice little fishing village further along the path, and did some sidequests there. Then I returned to Lake Hylia and went north.

Up there I found another stable, and that guy from Kakariko again. He looked at another of my pictures and directed me to some nearby ruins. Another person mentioned a white horse belonging to the royal family being there too, so I went to check it out. I caught the horse first and took her back to the stable:

I named her Hylia to go with my Demise. :) When I showed her to the guy who told me about her, he gave me the royal saddle and bridle to put on her! Then I returned to the area to find the memory spot. It featured Link and Zelda riding their horses, and Zelda thanked Link for giving her advice on how to handle her mount. Then things got serious, and she talked about praying at the springs of Power and Courage, and how they hadn’t awakened anything within her. But she had hopes for the third:

After this I took a good look at the pictures to see if I could identify where some of them might be. One of these was obviously Gerudo in origin, so I took it as an excuse to head out to the desert. Sure enough, I found a stable along the way and Pikango was there again and pointed me to Kara Kara Bazaar, an oasis outside of Gerudo Town. And at the stable, I spotted my first Gerudo lady:

Oh yeah... I know all about them. One thing I learned on my exploration was to always be wary of unnamed travellers. Because they are always not what they seem. They take on the guise of regular people you may spot on the road, but when you speak with them they’ll fight you because they’re actually from the Yiga Clan, a bunch of Sheikah who split from their people to serve Ganon. But they always give Rupees and bananas after you defeat them, so they’re worth fighting. ...The first one I fought took me by surprise and nearly killed me, though.

On my way out into the desert, I ran into this lady:

Of course, I didn’t go anywhere near it. I went to the Bazzar and found the memory spot. It was a memory of Zelda being attacked by the Yiga Clan, and Link swooping in to protect her:

I went around talking to people, and found a Goron and a Rito, and this OLD Gerudo lady:

And I spoke with a Gerudo who was looking for the love of her life and was disappointed that no men saw the appeal in her tailoring abilities. She gave the exposition about how men are rarely born into the Gerudo and how they have to travel to find mates. Also, this lady is relatable:

After I finished exploring this place, I took another look at the photos and left to find another place. I did think about continuing on to Gerudo Town, but that would’ve required some heat resisting clothing or food, which I did not have. I checked out a spot I thought I could manage to find because Hyrule Castle was in the background and after narrowly avoiding a Guardian, I found it! And I was pointed to another memory, and this one hurt so badly. Link and Zelda were fleeing, and Link lost his grip on Zelda’s hand. Zelda was despairing. The Guardians and Divine Beasts had turned against them. Mipha, Urbosa, Revali, and Daruk were all trapped in their Divine Beasts and she and Link had fled and left everyone to die. She blamed herself:

I hope all those people who saw her like this in the trailer and called her a weak crybaby without understanding what she was going through are having really bad days. 

I explored more after this and found the Lost Woods. I tried to find my way through it, but the fog kept rolling in and sending me back to the entrance. I gave up eventually. I’m sure I’ll find some hint about the correct pathway somewhere... And I found another memory of Zelda patching Link up after a battle, and look at all those monsters he destroyed, holy shit:

Zelda talked about her fear that the increase of powerful monsters was an omen of Calamity Ganon’s return.

After all this, I ended up returning to Hateno Village and buying that house! And then I could buy some furnishings for it. After I bought him out, Bolson added a heap of additional furniture for the place for free, and I ended up with this:

From here, I figured I should probably finally head up to Mount Lanayru to find this memory. ...Of course, since I approached from Hateno, I ended up missing the gate I was looking for and just went straight up the mountain. As I approached the peak, the music started to get ominous, and I thought that was a weird change. But once I actually got there, I realised why:

A voice from the goddess statue here said that the dragon was Naydra. It was supposed to be an attendant of the spring, but it had been infected by Ganon’s Malice. After I shot one of the eyeballs on it’s head, it took off flying, and I had to fly after it to continue destroying the Malice on it’s body. It was a very athesetically pleasing battle, but not much of a fight. After I destroyed all the Malice, it was free:

I was told to shoot an arrow at it and, when I did, a scale dropped lose. I was then instructed to offer that scale to the statue, and that unlocked a new shrine! Seeing Naydra made me realise that the dragon I had seen at Lakes Hylia and Floria must be the Faron dragon, and I probably have to do the same with one of it’s scales at the Shrine of Courage. I’m pretty sure that dragon isn’t infected with Malice though, so it should be easier to claim a scale from it. Finding the shrine is probably the difficult part...

After this, I headed back down the mountain and found the gate I was looking for. There was a memory about Link and Zelda returning from Mount Lanayru to the waiting Champions, and it was revealed that Zelda felt nothing at the Shrine of Wisdom either. Urbosa comforted her, and Mipha spoke for the first time, trying to offer Zelda some help by describing what she thinks about when she’s healing, but they were interrupted by a tremor. Revali flew into the air to take a look around, and Calamity Ganon had returned and was at the castle. Revali flew down to relay this news, and Daruk spurred everyone into action. They made deeper bonds with each other, had time to check off old to-do’s and successfully wrapped up a big project. By the end of the week, they were proud of their work and couldn’t wait to share their shine with me. And while I felt proud too, I also felt a little off balance learning that my indispensability was part fantasy.

But I also learned to trust them more. Who doesn’t thrive when they’re trusted? And while taking time off is obviously important for my health, it’s also essential for the health of my company. I’m a more creative and clear-headed leader when I’ve had time to noodle, doodle and canoodle.

So maybe this scenario is true for you, too. Is your participation always essential? Can your colleagues run that meeting without you, can your kid make that peanut butter and jelly sandwich on her own, can you ask for help and delegate more at home and the office? There will always be ten more emails to read and endless demands on our time. But don’t be afraid to power down. I promise it will help you power up when and where it matters most.

Doing less can actually lead to more abundance.

Here’s another example that surprised me. Doing less made us earn more this year. Instead of focusing on lots of little business opportunities, we cut back and focused on our amazing wellness program, Crazy Sexy You.

At first I was worried. Would pulling back hurt us financially? We’ve expanded our team significantly over the last two years and sometimes our monthly overhead gives me night sweats. Well, as you can probably imagine, saying “no” to lots of little (and even a few big) opportunities made room for us to put our total focus on our launch, our program and our beloved students. We went deep and the results were outstanding, both from our student’s experience & success rate and our revenue. A two-fer!

I don’t know about you, but there’s so much I want to do with my big, beautiful life. I want to spend more time traveling, hanging with my friends and family, drifting in a canoe and dangling my feet off a dock. I want to be doing things I’ve dreamt of and stuff I haven’t even thought of yet. But endless “doing” doesn’t allow for the fulfillment of being. And isn’t that what you and I are here for? We’re here to live like we mean it and to drink in this delicious, sweet life before our next adventure. So let’s do that!

Tips for Doing Less and Living More

Let go of the guilt (and learn to disappoint people)

When you bite off more than you can chew, you’re going to disappoint people. Guess what? Not your problem! Here’s an idea: Make peace with guilt. Guilt is often a self-induced illusion, anyway. Many languages don’t even have a word for guilt. Sure, we all feel it. But that doesn’t mean we have to believe it! Acknowledge your feelings and let them go. Life is too short for guilt.

Keep emails, meetings and communications short

Just because someone sends you a long, chatty email doesn’t mean you need to respond in the same lengthy fashion. If I let it, my inbox can be a full-time job––but it doesn’t have to be. With so many technologies in our lives, the etiquette is ever-changing. Establishing a clean and brisk style of communicating may cause unease at first, but people will get on board and even be grateful. The same holds true for meetings. While we can still be friendly and build relationships, we don’t need to waste too many hours circling the wagons to nowhere. Connect smart. A restorative yoga class is waiting.

Delete, delete, delete

OK, I’ll admit it, sometimes I simply delete emails. Yup, I don’t answer them. But I do use an away message to let folks know that I’m focused on a project, so they may not hear back from me for a period of time. And if it’s really important they should either email my assistant or send their request through again after a certain date. Look, here’s the deal. We all have our own to-do lists, we don’t need other people’s “you-do” list on top of our already packed schedules. Folks will figure it out, they always do. Now, clearly this doesn’t work in every situation. So please use common sense––you can’t delete messages from your aging granny or boss, but the low hanging fruit doesn’t always need to be picked, especially when it comes in mass email form.

Let them judge

You can’t please everyone. When you’re too focused on living up to other people’s standards, you aren’t spending enough time raising your own. Sure, some people may whisper, complain and judge (and they ain’t your kinda people if they do). But for the most part, it’s all in your head. People care less about your actions than you think. Why? Because they have their own problems. However, when you do get the stink eye, try not to let it rattle you. It may just be because they’re jealous of the gutsy risks you take. Perhaps they’d also love to take action, but they’re too scared to make a move. Not your problem or your karma to figure out, just sayin’.

Do a social media cleanse

I love checking Facebook and following my friends and the people I admire on Instagram. But sometimes I spend more time in their lives than I do my own! When that happens, I feel off center or like I’m missing out. Why can’t I make a cake like that? How come I didn’t get invited to that party? How the hell does her hair always look so good? And so on. The truth is, my life and your life are awesome (flaws and all). So if you find yourself living through other people’s profiles, it’s probably time to step away from your device. You don’t have to delete your account or swear off the sauce. You may just need a break. Or you might want to tidy up your feed. That’s right, do an unfollowing purge. Energy matters and if your social feed is filled with energy that brings you down, raise your vibration by using the lovely “unfollow” button!

You don’t need to fix people

Oh my word, sometimes I offer to fix people who don’t ask to be fixed! It’s a product of what I do for a living, but that doesn’t mean it’s always welcomed or required. “You’re off duty Kris, chill the “F” out.” Part of healing or being successful is self-reliance. Nobody handed me the keys to the Queendom, I had to blaze my own trail. And while I love helping people, it’s not my job to save everyone, especially when folks have their own plans and agendas. The same holds true for wonderful you. Take all that energy and pour it back towards yourself, darling. You deserve your own time and attention.

Trust yourself (and others)

Trust is a core currency of any relationship. Sometimes our need to control and micromanage everything erodes our confidence in ourselves and others. People are much more capable than we think. A hearty dose of trust is often what’s needed to unlock the magic. Have faith.

Pace yourself

I love creative benders. I become a laser-focused and I thrive during those periods. But those jags aren’t sustainable. We need time to recover after big projects, both at home and at work. Plus, consistent back to back benders generally lead to burnout. When you have to go deep, (hello home renovation, I’m talking to you!) go for it. Just make sure you give yourself breathers to recover.

Choose your priorities wisely—don’t try to “have it all”

You can still be ambitious, run your own business, heal your body and be a nurturing and committed lover, parent and friend—maybe just not all at once. We have to make choices and sacrifices. Plus, here’s an important question I like to ask myself. Do you really want it all? I mean, all takes work and maintenance! All creates less time for wonder, whimsy and unexpected magic. We weren’t put on this planet to grind like ever-cranking engines that only stop when they seize. Figure out what your “all” is and then make space for miracles.

You are worthy just sitting still

Say what? This is a big one! I’m still learning how to be more present. When I am, I hear my body’s subtle messages before they get too loud. In music and theater, the beauty comes not only from the notes and the words, but from the spaces between them. I like to call it the sacred pause, it’s that expansive place where you can tap into your higher power, your intuition and healing. Doing nothing is sometimes the best investment in your life. There’s nothing you need to do or prove to anyone. You’re worthy just as you are.

The S4 originally was launched with the 4.2 Jelly bean Android version which is comparatively very stable and reliable, yet that was not the case for S3, which originally came with 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 and both version are quite stable and reliable. The problem of all problems

Now that we dig the real problem source, I would advise in general that for those who updated their phone, roll back to original software by performing a simple reset; Go to Settings, Backup and restore, and simply restore your phone to Factory settings. Or do the hard button reset by pressing the Vol Up button + Home Button + Power Button/lock button, keep pressing all three buttons until you see menu screen after your phone restart, scroll down using vol down and select “Wipe all data and reset to original settings” to select use power button. I personally recommend this solution to end-up all issues once and for all, until a proven bug-free update is released which will happen eventually. Not to mention the 4.4 Kitkat Android version is released and news has it that Samsung might jump directly to that “especially for the S4” phones rather than fixing the bugs for the 4.3 Jellybean update.

Yet, if some of you prefer to continue using your phone(s) with the current updated 4.3 software then below you will find popular reported problems and solution to overcome these issues.

Many people have found that the S4 stutters out of the box. There are reports of stuttering on entering and exiting apps, some lag on unlocking, and also lag when pressing the Home button. You can reasonably expect a smartphone this powerful to be as smooth as silk. If it isn’t then you can try the following:

Possible solutions:

Go to Settings > Developer options and scroll down. Try changing Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale to Animation is off. If you don’t see Developer options then you can unlock it by going to Settings > More > About device and tapping the Build number several times (you should get a pop-up message when developer options is unlocked)

-Go to Settings >My device > Lock screen and then tap Unlock effect and change it to None.

Fire up S-Voice and go into Settings and then uncheck the box next to Open via the home key. Be aware that this will disable the double tap activation for S-Voice, but it will also eliminate the Home button lag.

Problem: Lack of storage

If you bought a 16GB Galaxy S4, you might be disappointed to find that you only have around 8.5GB free. The operating system and the preloaded apps are taking up over 6GB of the available space.

Possible solutions:

You can buy a microSD card, up to 64GB, and you can use cloud storage solutions like Google Drive and Dropbox.

The problem is that some apps can’t be installed to a microSD card, and they obviously can’t be run from the cloud. Your other option is to root your S4 and get rid of some of the bloatware. Problem: Overheating

A lot of people have reported that the S4 is getting very warm or even hot at times. Most people are experiencing this during movie playback or while gaming. Some had a problem with random apps, during calls, while browsing the web, or while using the camera. A few have experienced an issue while charging. Any smartphone is going to heat up with extensive use and hot weather will have an impact too.

Possible solutions:

It could be a rogue app. Make sure you have the latest updates for all your apps. Fire up the Play Store, tap Menu then My apps, and you should see available Updates at the top right. If you have an up to date app that always seems to cause the problem, then try to find an alternative.

Some people report that media server could be the culprit. Try removing the microSD card and backing up all the files onto your computer. Reinsert the card into your S4 and format it. This might solve the problem.

If it is a software problem then an update might solve it. There are reports that Sprint S4 handsets have already received an OTA (over the air) update, but we don’t know what it was for. In any case this solution means waiting.

If your S4 continues to heat up,and you aren’t using it heavily, then it’s possible you have a hardware problem. Contact your retailer, carrier, or Samsung to report the problem and see if you can get a replacement.

Samsung Galaxy S4 problem battery drain

Is your battery draining faster than expected? Any smartphone is going to eat up a lot of juice if you use it a lot, but if you’re experiencing heavy battery drain it could be linked to the overheating problem discussed above. The hotter your battery gets, the faster it’s going to drain. You could use an app to check the temperature and make sure that’s not the real reason for the excessive battery drain.

If you find that your battery juice is draining fast under light usage, and the phone isn’t overheating, then there are a couple of things you could try. Start by going to Settings > More > Battery and find out what is eating the power.

Disable feature you aren’t using: Wi-Fi, GPS, Mobile data, Air view, NFC, etc.

Turn on Power saving mode via the extra Quick settings in the Notifications bar.

Reduce your screen brightness and timeout.

Use a dark wallpaper.

Watch out for apps that are constantly syncing. You’ll find options to set the sync duration in the Settings menu of most apps like Facebook, which can be a drain on power.

Problem: Display smearing or ghosting

A number of S4 owners have experienced a smearing or ghosting issue when they are scrolling in menus with a black background. Some report a purple haze on the grey bits of the menu and elsewhere. The effect is more noticeable when the brightness is turned down. Some people have also reported a red tint on black.

Possible solution:

Samsung has reportedly already released an OTA update that fixes the red tint on black, but the smearing issue has not been solved. Some people argue that it’s a limitation of the hardware; others are claiming it will be fixed via a software update.

Workaround: It might be worth trying the free Screen Adjuster app, as it allows you to calibrate colors and contrast.

Can’t connect to Wi-Fi, it’s very slow, or keeps dropping connection : A lot of people run into issues with their smartphones and routers. Quite a few S4 owners have reported their Wi-Fi connection dropping frequently, and a few are unable to connect at all. The problem with Wi-Fi issues is that they could be down to the hardware (mobile device or router), or they could be caused by the software (on the mobile device or the router), or they could be caused by settings (on the smartphone or the router). If you find that other devices are connecting to your router without a problem then it looks like you have an issue. Try the following:

Go into Settings > Connections and tap Wi-Fi. Then tap Menu and make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always.

You can try turning off Wi-Fi power save mode on your S4. On the phone dialer type *#0011# then Menu > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi power save mode to Off.

Make sure that your router firmware is up to date.

Change your router settings, maybe change the 802.11 mode or channel. You should refer to troubleshooting documentation for your specific router, or contact your ISP to find out how.

Problem: Smart stay, pause, scroll, rotation doesn’t work

Some of the exclusive features on the S4 are what tempted people to buy it over the major competitors, so it can be a disappointment for people when they can’t get a feature to work as advertised. A lot of people complain that the Smart Stay, Pause, Rotation, and Scroll features aren’t working for them.

Potential solution:

Assuming you’ve checked that they’re turned on in Settings > My device > Smart screen. You should also make sure that the lighting is sufficiently bright for your S4 to see you. The phone has to be able to see your face using the front-facing camera. If you’re obscuring that camera, or the environment is too dark, then it simply won’t work.
