Grown adults think this obvious fairytale is the most important information humans will ever hear.

The more I think about Slay The Princess and fairytale tropes, the more details I find
Like there’s the obvious one with the Hero and the Princess, and the way it’s kind of up to interpretation which one of you is the monster. Plus The Narrator actually being a character is a sort of subversion of fairytale tropes.
Then there’s the different routes: The Tower (in which the Princess is imprisoned), The Witch (who places a curse on the Princess and/or imprisons her), and even The Stranger (“there are only two kinds of stories: ‘a person goes on an adventure’, and ‘a stranger comes to town’”—John Gardner).
AND ALSO THE MAGIC MIRROR! I literally just realised this writing the next chapter of my stp fic and had to post about it. When I first played the game, I wondered why the mirror was so prominent, and why they chose it to be the way the Hero gets to The Shifting Mound. Of course there are multiple interpretations, and I’m sure there are many reasons for it, but at its core it’s a fucking magic mirror. Another incredibly famous fairytale trope!!! And I didn’t even realise!!! Because it fits so well with the themes of the game!!!!!!

Imagine one day this tailor kills 7 flies with one swat and decides thats such an awesome feat that now he tells everyone "i killed 7 at once" and everyone thinks hes an actually a skilled fighter who killed 7 people so he keeps getting roped into doing extremely dangerous stuff. Hes going up against giants, a big boar and even a unicorn and always wins with his witts.
Cool guy, i always liked the part where he goes up against a giant in a copetition of strength and the giant is like "i am going to milk rocks" and starts pressing those rocks so hard that water drips out. And this guy is just like ah yes imma do the same and takes out the soft cheese he had in his pocket for lunch, acting as if its just a weird looking rock and pressing moisture out of it
Guys a legend

it's curious to me that as soon as jacks kisses tella she starts showing signs of dying. jacks slows down her heartbeat so she doesn't die right away, but she is dying. she is literally dying until legend helps. and out of nowhere, she feels jacks heart beat and assumes she is his true love. for me this proves little because many things could have crossed his path until the moment his heart starts beating again, but tella just assumes that it's her (something of her kind character and not self-centered at all).
stephanie really wouldn't need to keep tella as jacks true love. she could use MANY ways to explain this, and one of the things that would make the least sense would be keeping tella as his true love

Anakin truly set out the goal to marry Padmé as soon as he first laid his eyes on her. He didn't even interact with her that much to come to the conclusion that he wanted to wed her. As soon as they met again 10 years later, he wasted no time and put a ring on that finger. They didn't even take at least a month; they went straight to marriage. Their romance is essentially a Disney fairytale 😅❤️

Do u think Karkat and Jade share some sense of loneliness? With both of them not really being able to connect with other people for the first 13 years of their lives because of outsides forces (Being a mutant in Alternia and living in an island alone)
yea
i like to imagine they connect like that, just a small detail. its nice and really depressing, they turned out very differently.
though yes jades isolation is a bit more important (plot wise-ish) than karkats, but its still a very interesting parallel
With both of them not really being able to connect with other people for the first 13 years of their lives
i mean for karkat it was probably a nightmare, not being able to connect with anybody physically for years and just having to deal with yourself and just... with self loathing a part of it? yeah probably really lonely. though karkats life pre-sgrub is a bit more vague than jades, its kind of obvious that he didnt have any physical interactions (other than crabdad) due to the fact that he needed to be protected by well, alternias whole.. everything system. i think about karkats life pre-sgrub a lot, actually
and jade? loneliest girl on earth. she didnt really have anybody (except for her grandpa but .. You know. Dead. taxidermized. or after she was a toddler. i say 2 years old) and she was left on prospit wondering and the only time she was with another person was with a sleeping john in the other tower. and all the prospitians. but that was her main physical interactions (were not using bec because .. Dog. woof bark woof bark)
because of outsides forces (Being a mutant in Alternia and living in an island alone)
and thats the saddest part, it really isnt either of their faults for any form of isolation.
anyways sorry if i got anything incorrect or just kind of got things straight up wrong. its 1:20 am (as im currently re-vising) and i am too tired to correct myself
now i know this is more of a fully canon analysis. but i do want to give my opinions on how it would effect them after the game
using the fact in the credits that they do live together (with d*ve. why am i even censoring his name? because its funny) i think they would prefer to be close to each other. for karkat its more of the fact that i think he still would feel a bit sorry (not in the sense that he didnt feel all that sorry during the game when he was harassing jade, but i mean that the feeling still lingers from time to time) and would try to just stay near her to make sure shes alright
and jade would be near karkat because of the fact of their relationship during the game. i feel like after she did forgive him during the game she did get more curious. like the reactions he had with the passwords. probably just wanting to have someone around that was talking to her for so long and was bothering her while she was still alone, just the concept of someone who was bullying you for maybe.. MONTHS (i.e "CG: HI AGAIN, IDIOT.") (emphasis on again) .. YEARS?? (or on her part) is just.. near you. physically. it brings an awkwardness between them. from how they were isolated and bothering each other and now just... together ??? physically?? it probably is so strange to them . strange to me mostly but it is a strange concept in itself
but i digress this part, i just started rambling about it

What’s so funny is that when I watched once upon a time as a teenager after seeing the cs kiss on my dash was that I was watching their season 2 scenes hoping desperately that we weren’t grabbing at straws. That they would be together after their kiss. All of us running round in circles analysing every little thing. And now as an adult you watch s2 captain swan and there’s a big fat neon sign that flashes ENDGAME every time they’re on screen.

My actual favorite fairytales are ones having to do with curses, getting turned into a beast, or accidentally/willingly/any-reason-ly marrying a beast or demon or monster. Prince Lindworm is one of my most favorite-est favorites. I had a pet corn snake at one point who I called Prince Lindworm (his real name was Slinky though). Other faves off the top of my head are East of The Sun, West of The Moon, The Demon in The Tree, and Featherflight.

I haven't read the Prince Lestat books and to be honest I don't know if I ever will, but I feel like even book!Lestat's ending shouldn't have just been him 'returning to his former home in France to act out some would-be vampire hierarchy'. Not even because I consider him to be some sort of exquisite exception or special vampire in the way that Anne probably did, but because the notion of him returning to his old family home makes little sense to me at all, based off of what it represented to him. Namely his terrible upbringing on account of his family's neglect and abuse, that in spite of (but also because of) he returned to take care of his old father (while also verbally berating him when he could). He also can't straighten out his own life even when it literally depended on that, so I can't take the monarchy angle seriously at all.
