art gets intentionally mystified by those deeming themselves as the social elite. don't fucking let them.

like hardee har har that one guy spent $5.4 million USD on a banana duct taped to a wall. fuck that guy. i actually like conceptual postmodern art but that doesn't mean it's worth any actual money to me. yoko ono's book grapefruit is 15 bucks on amazon and to me it is worth exactly that, and even grapefruit contains more interesting conceptual art than banana guy could ever dream of conceiving of. yet the masses are left to feel stupid because they "just don't understand its worth" or some other such fucking nonsense.

art is only given artistic value based on its market value, and market value means jack and shit.

the only difference between the market value of a banana that a conceptual artist duck taped to a wall, a digital drawing of a banana from an instagram artist with 35 followers drawn for free in 2017, and an oil painting of a banana from 1583 is only the public perception of it's worth. the mona lisa is only that famous and worth that much because it was stolen in 1911. prior to that it was damn near unknown. there is a fucking urinal worth an estimated 2 million dollars, and that's not even the original urinal that duchamp put in an exhibition in 1917, that one is lost and estimated to be worth $100 million USD. it's cool art history wise and tbh i don't mind it as an artwork but also it's just a fucking urinal!

nothing fucking means anything! rich people famously have no taste! (that's my own personal opinion but i fucking stand by it) i tack up printouts of art i like to my wall and that collection is just as important to me as the originals that sit in museums. i can interact with that art any way i damn please and while i like going to museums, i also like seeing the same artworks in my bedroom as i fall asleep. the art i make would go untouched in a museum for fear of damage but when i handle my paintings i put my grubby little hands everywhere because it literally does not matter to me.

my print of alphonse mucha's job is tacked up next to a photo of my siblings which is tacked up next to a star wars poster which is tacked up next to an original artwork of mine that took me two weeks to embroider and draw. all of those have equal worth and importance to me, and therefore equal value on my wall, despite all of them being worth different amounts financially. museums have nothing on the sheer value of my bedroom walls. if i ever were to own an artwork by a "great master" i would probably treat it much the same, the only reason i don't have one yet is because i can't afford their perceived worth, but even if i could, would i? i'm not sure,

good art ≠ expensive art

good art ≠ well known art

good art ≠ anything at auctions or galleries or museums

good art to me ≠ good art to you, and vice versa

good art = whatever fucking art you like. whatever you determine to be art in the first place.

good art = art you don't like, art you hate, but art you recognize for it's value to the history of art or it's technical skill or it's symbolism.

WORST LIVE ACTION POLL LET'S GO

these are all the worst adaptiations of my favorite source materials so if the worst adaptation of your fav source isn't here that's because i either didn't watch it, i found the live action to be enjoyable because i don't know the source material even if the adaptation is bad, or i didn't like the source so the adaptation didn't fill me with rage.

best book, cartoon, and manhwa out there OBLITERATED by their live actions. although tbhZ pjo was amusing in it's own right even though it would be diabolical to call it an adaptation, and at least ATLA followed the plot even if the writing, casting, and characterization was terrible. not sure what redeeming qualities the orv live action has because i've been shaking with rage since the casting announcement and it only has gotten worse from there.

ok this might be dead wrong but i think ryan coogler used the same practical eye effects on the vampires in sinners (2025) as ridley scott did on the replicants in bladerunner (1982). like the way the eyes glaze over and have eye shine like animals. anyways this spawned some really interesting thoughts for me

MILD SPOILERS FOR SINNERS AND BLADERUNNER BELOW

there's really something to be said about the way that near-human-non-humans are represented in films in this way, in the way that eyes aren't quite right. eyes are windows to the soul but what there is no soul, and what is a soul anyways? who has souls? is to be human is to have a soul?

the vampires and the replicants are antagonists but are they truly that villainous? i mean yes they did bad things no excuses but the real villains are the capitalists in bladerunner and the white supremacists in sinners. that's barely even subtext. but how far gone do they have to be until they are irredeemable? at the end of the day the replicants and vampires want community and empathy and family and things that make people human, but along the way they destroyed the things that would have made them truly human. did they have a choice in this destruction? or was it just their nature as non-humans trying to be human?

both remmick and roy batty lose all of their gathered community and wither away into the winds of time, with symbolism of life and renewal following their deaths (sunrise for remmick, dove for roy batty) and leaving the main characters (sammie, deckard) forever changed (and obviously traumatized) in the way they live their lives and interact with the people around them.

idk i thought it was cool. i don't know any behind the scenes besides that they're both practical effects but it would be cool if they were the same eye effect.

any other movies like this please lmk i'm not particularly a film buff but this shit is definitely cool.

recently i got into doctor who for the first time (saw ncuti gatwa give an interview, decided it was high time, started from the beginning of NuWho bc i love david tennant and karen gillan as actors so i figured i'd watch the whole show) but then i got curious about classic who so i restarted again from hartnell and can i just say

the genius of the specific retconning/"parallel evolution" of the cybermen is that their origin story in NuWho is so goddamn smart bc when they are introduced in Classic Who they come from a twin planet of earth (mondas) but they took the planet "left to travel the universe"(?) only to come back in the 80s and wreak havoc. in NuWho they come from a parallel universe ("Pete's World") that's an identical copy of Earth, but not the same universe, just an adjacent one, and wreak havoc on that earth then cross to wreak havoc on "our" earth.

identical twin planet. parallel planet. that's damn near the same concept, and imo i don't care if it's actually all that related or even if it was intentional i think that was smart as hell

i think things like this get a lot of flack or aren't taken seriously for being webnovels (or for being bl) but i genuinely think Little Mushroom is one of the best works of fiction i've ever read, and i've read award-winning novels and well-written fanfiction before. it's plot was the closest thing to making me cry since when i read Where the Red Fern Grows (the only book to have ever actually made me cry)

like the plot was thought provoking and complex and the all the characters, main or side or even bit parts were so goddamn interesting and complex and dimensional (An Zhe being calm and emotionless but not cold and uninteresting was a masterclass in characterization, and Lu Feng being harsh but not cruel and still having his own sense of dark humor on top of his person moral quandary about his work was fucking excellent and made him sooooo complex, top tier ML right there, there chemistry was SO good and An Zhe was the right amount of clueless without being fucking ridiculous about it) and not to mention the world-building? holy shit the ending was set up from the fucking intro when the world was being explained yet it was still a huge fucking twist. i wish i knew mandarin to dissect the syntax and the language usage because there's really only so much that can be done through webnovel translators.

but the metaphors were excellent as well as the usage of specfic poems that An Zhe came across since An Ze was a literature student. like wow. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night? talk about relevance to the plot. biblical metaphors with Judgement Day and the Garden of Eden? oh lordy sign me upppp.

it's one of the few manhua/manhwa that i liked so much that i had to read the novel for it.

it's very rare i finish something and want more yet here i am patiently waiting for the manhua to update so i can experience it again. if y'all bully the artist off the internet i will personally come for all of you don't play with me.
