Like basically every human she meets at the very least condones slavery. Like I couldn’t care less about her struggles to become a Silver Sugar Master, just team up with some fairies and help them stab people. but nah it’s just a backdrop and I’m supposed to buy at least some of those slave owners are decent people or something lmao okay bye

Now I’ve started watching The Most Heritical Last Boss Queen, another reincarnated as the villainess show which is a trope I’m a sucker for. Original villainess was ridiculously evil. Wild. Anyway protagonist’s kindly father literally kidnaps/forcibly buys a kid to become a member of the royal family Puts him in chains so he can’t telport away until he signs a magical contract. And while this kid cries his eyes out that protagonist made it possible to get a letter form his mother, said kindly father stands in the background, smiling kindly. Dude this kid is having a literal breakdown here about a single letter from his mom you kidnapped him from?? And so far we just get the protagonist sympathizing with this kid and trying to help but not a single second of, “so yeah my dad is evil actually”

Ugh so I'm at work there's a guy sitting on the bench just outside my workshop window, watching something on his phone with the volume turned up and I can hear it inside and its really annoying.

It's not strictly "not allowed", but it's kinda rude and I can't hear exactly whats being said but someone outside might and I'm worried about it being something shitty that will discourage my visitors from coming in the shop. It's also competing with music from down the street and it's kinda over stimulating me.

Honestly I really like your thoughts on Angeal and his flaws, and it sucks that most ppl and even SE want to sweep said flaws under the rug. Plus i can get why you dislike him as a person in-universe, his actions make everything worse for everyone including how he hurts and dimisses Genesis despite being childhood friends (and having a whole fandom excusing his bad actions while blaming your fav for daring to exist is Obnoxius at the bare minimun).

In any case, people keep asking for complicated morally gray stories yet can't handle the angelic noble manly guy not really being a good guy and the odd mean redhead not really being a bad guy. And that's the whole point of Crisis Core isn't it? Going in with Shinra colored glasses and then seeing the illusion crumble and get crushed beneath the weight of its sins, and how you need to free yourself of its lies least it drags you down with it.

Anyways, apologies if my ramble got too long, the point is that you get him aka he sucks and owes the mother of apologies to Zack, Gen n Seph

I honestly find Angeal to be a super compelling character—his story is a tragedy from the very start, not just because of how he was made but because of how he was raised, because of who he is and how he interfaces with the world around him.

They actually nailed it in First SOLDIER, which was a surprise to me after how he's been handled in the EC version of Crisis Core; he's arrogant, sanctimonious, self-important, and genuinely believes that he's right every step of the way because that's how he was brought up. You can see the pressure he had to prove himself to be as good as his mother presumably told him he was, and how it's shaped him into this person. You can also kinda see how people without a lot of personal interactions with him could end up viewing him as a self-motivated go-getter with a heart of gold, but it's just as clear that even a cursory focus on his actual behavior that he's terribly flawed in very specific ways even as a teenager, and those flaws only deepen with time. He doesn't have the gruff-voiced mystique used to cover up his demeaning treatment of others in the future, the facade is less comprehensive at this point than it will be by the time Zack comes into the picture, but you can see how he's building it up, and it's super interesting.

I don't like Angeal as a person, but I find him so compelling as a character—this is someone who was brought up by a woman whose entire history is a mass of grey to black morality without him knowing it, and rather than ever question that maybe this isn't how the world works, he decided that the entire world was wrong. That's what ends up breaking him in the end, and it's really fucking sad. If Gillian had been different, I think he'd be a much more pleasant character to interact with, but I honestly really like the juxtaposition between his abrasive self-righteousness and his perfect honorable good boy presentation.

My major issue honestly comes from fandom refusing to admit that his behavior is anything but what he insists it is. He's honestly kind of a bully, but he's "nice" and he says that he's honorable, so very few people ever want to discuss it. The standard claim is that the writing in CC is just bad and that's why he seems so inconsistent, but the same "inconsistency" presents in EC, nine years prior to his death in Modeoheim, eight years prior to Genesis defecting in Wutai. This "inconsistency" is consistent in how he's written, whether in CC or EC or even DFFOO.

It's not inconsistency, it's hypocrisy. He's a hypocrite, that's part of his character. Honor and responsibility and nobility are what he says they are, and only what he says they are, and if he behaves in any way to the contrary, it's still good because he did it and he can't be anything else. It's really interesting to see this sort of personality portrayed so well, and I wish more people were willing to explore it! This is part of what makes him so compelling! The tragedy of his own self-loathing being what tore his whole world apart! Amazing. Brilliant. I love that. He's terrible and it's great.

But I feel like Fencer does get lonely, but doesn't like to admit to this at all . Especially with how he is nowadays in the manor (bossing other nutcrackers around, thinking of himself as the leader and 'owning' the mansion because he was there first, etc etc) he very much tries to play himself off as this big tough guy, but maybe hearing only his footsteps echo within the hallways of the mansion saddens him a bit . Again, I don't think he would ever admit this to anyone though LOL

As for talking, I do like the vision that he talks (I've debated on even finding a headcanon voice for him but I am. not exactly sure what he would even sound like) and he probably gestures a bit when speaking . Short and brief sentences, slight accent, and maybe throw in some british slang / insults and you got yourself a Fencer

Dgmw I bet nickloon is a great arc yada yada, but holy shit dose it feel drawn out to me. I personally think some other characters could have used that screentime. And also they way the writers write them is so mehhhrnm. I bet it's not bad when rewatching the show but having to deal with a "will they or won't they" every single new episode just drains a person(espically when the EPS were being posted) Imo they'd be best as a arc at the start of III(premerge) because that part really misses anything going on(The only reason I gave III a chance was because 13 was rlly good at setting up stuff and I wanted more of that II2 writing).

Heck the shorter arc could symbolize something like "II2 is near it's end and mephone dosen't want to go back." And also I'd aruge it's resolution and everything else makes it not Worth being a full season arc. Like yeah Nickel's opinion on Balloon changes and that's well handeled, but it feels so nothing after seeing the two of them go back and forth for all of III second half. You get so desenscized to it, unless you have loved these characters all of III and want to see them together there's really nothing else in there.

Like Take bot's arc from the first half of III, dose it have flaws (yep) But was/is it enjoyed by most of the Fandom (YEAH!). Why? Because the arc dosen't draw itself out. Shit I'd aruge in the way the III writers were writing Bot's arc deserved more screentime then Nickel and Balloons(OR at least the arc deserved better time management. Like I said it's not perfect either). And I know Fandom liking something dosen't make it better/gooder then others. But I feel like a enjoyable arc should be able to reach more people then just Nickloon shippers, espically if it's gonna be this long.

Also mabye I dislike it because every single post about it is romatnic, Idk why but even before balloon was a canon aro(I'M NOT OPENING THAT CAN OD DISCOURE) I just coudln't see them together. So every single post about the arc having that isn't analises being Nickloon is just meh..(Plus I just don't really care for it in genral, it's not my thing but if you like it power to you)

ALSO no, I'm not saying compelx relationships bad, I'm just saying I PERSONALLY feel like the arc is drawn out. And no I'm not some 7 year old with a bad attention span. I'd forgive how long it takes if the writers did something else with them other then having "Will they or won't they" which I personally found obnoxius.

If you think it adds onto their characters and think the lenght of this arc and "Will they or won't they" is a improtant and good part of the nickloon soup that's A Okay
