Heat Magazine

This new crime show declared itself to be the first English-language “police procedural” drama produced and set on the French Riviera since the 197-s although its thunder was rather stolen by Britbox’s Murder In Province, which was made later but aired first. Set on Côte d’Azur, this one focuses on the unlikely crime-fighting partnership between idealistic cop Camille Delmasse (Lucie Lucas, Gloria) and ex-mafia con artist Harry King (Jamie Bamber, Battlestar Galactica) who solve a murder case each week, while Lucie hunts for the criminals who framed her police hero dad.
NZ Listener

We rather approve of all these cosy crime series set in exotic locations - or just ones with great weather, really. The Mallorca Files (BBC UKTV, Wednesday), for example, or this new one that is said to be the first English-language procedural to be produced in Cannes in more than 50 years. (Riviera presumably doesn’t count as it’s not a procedural.) Lucie Lucas is the local detective who teams up with a former con artist and Englishman played by Jamie Bamber. The show is created by Chris Murray, known for his work on Midsomer Murders, Agatha Raisin and the rebooted Van Der Valk.
Radio Times

There’s something for everyone in this Riviera detective show: great hair, chiselled jaws, luxury locations, sexual tension. And it’s this last element between its lead characters, detective Camille Delmasse (Lucie Lucas) and slightly shady Harry King (Jamie Bamber) that’s most dominant. Bamber’s con-artist grifts will put some viewers in mind of Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steele. Appropriately enough, as Bamber (in a tux in a casino) looks like he’s auditioning for James Bond.
Total TV Guide

This is all delightfully To Catch A Thief and Moonlighting. It revolves around the bickering yet flirtatious relationship between detective Camille Delmasse (Lucie Lucas) and international conman Harry King (Jamie Bamber), solving crimes on the French Riviera. Meanwhile Camille’s colleague Lea Robert (Shy’m), has a secret crush on her...
What’s On TV

When Cannes detective Camille Delmasse (Lucie Lucas) collides with debonair art collector Harry King (Jamie Bamber) during a high-speed pursuit, she’s irritated by the smooth-talking stranger. But as she investigates the death of a celebrated street artist known as the Jester, she and Harry keep crossing paths - and when Harry reveals he may be able to help Camille clear her father, the former chief of police, from alleged corruption charges, the two strike a mutually beneficial deal... Camille being a policewoman is a problem for Harry because he’s got something to hide,’ says Jamie. ‘But they each have something that the other needs. Gradually they get more dependent on each other, and become the od couple that works together solving crimes!’

Hey there lovelies! Wow, two recaps in one night! That's overkill! (JK I'm so behind, lol). I know we're deep into the holidays now, and some of the big ones have passed us by. I hope you've gotten a chance for some down time. I know this time of year can be tough for various reasons, and especially this year given the political climate around the world. Please hear me when I say, you are so very loved. Whether you had a good holiday, or a rough one. Whether you were swamped and busy, or got a break finally and got some rest. You are SO very very loved, no matter what you accomplished today, or this month, or this year. I am seeing so many new folks poking their heads out in the fando-- which is absolutely lovely to see-- and if you're just joining us for the first time, or have been in the fandom since Day One of S1 or anywhere in between-- you too are loved. We are Crew For Life, as Samba says, for a reason. This show brought so many of us together because of it's love, and it's light, and it's fond family. We all care about you so much crew, please remember that. It's time for me to sneak off to bed, and hopefully I'll see you soon lovelies, going to be posting the David Christmas specials in the next edition.
Sending love your way <3

It's nearing the end of the year and I'm thrilled to have finished up my little Thunderbirds Reading Challenge yesterday! It's been a whirlwind year with major lows but also some cherished highs and I'm still finding my feet a bit but we're getting there <3 I'm looking forward to 2025 and getting to dive into this world that I love once more!
I want to chatter about my thoughts on each book so I'll do that under the cut <3
Also this is my second year of making prompts for myself and I do plan on doing it again next year, so let me know if you want to be tagged in a post for that.
On to the books!
---
Thunderbird One: A book with silver lettering on the spine
My pick for this was A Zoologist's Guide To The Galaxy by Arik Kershenbaum. This was a book a biology teacher friend had recommended to me and so when I spotted it at the library and saw the silver lettering, it felt like it was meant to be and I snagged it! And I'm so glad she did tell me to read this one - I had so much fun dipping into the concepts and ideas this book presented. It was a really interesting way to explore key biological principals in the context of evolution on an alien world.
My favourite chapters were related to movement and communication, but there were so many fascinating tidbits of information and incredible solutions that life on Earth has come up with, that is gave me a whole new appreciation for the variation present on our own world!
This book has gone on my wishlist to purchase and I think everyone with an interest in natural sciences should check it out :D
Thunderbird Two: A book featuring a musician
For this I chose the appropriately named The Instrumentalist by Harriet Constable. This caught my eye as a new release and it was the setting that interested me most. The focus was on Venice, in the time period when Antonio Vivaldi was active, and that setting has some nostalgia for me as my family owned a CD audio drama set in the same period and place, designed to introduce children to Vivaldi's music. Not only that, but I was fortunate enough to visit Venice this year and so the environment was fresh in my mind.
This novel is based on Anna Maria della Pieta who was an orphan and violinist taught by Vivaldi. I've thought about this book a lot since I've read it - it's beautiful and the depictions of how music can consume you is truly stunning, but it's not a beautiful book, it's brutal and dark and doesn't shy away from the struggle that women in the time and place in which it's set. More than music, I think this book covered the soaring heights and despicable depths of what humanity can be, and demonstrates how easily one could become trapped by their circumstances.
As an aside, I did also cry when I read the author's acknowledgements at the end, they were absolutely stunning and I read them out loud to my friend and wow they hit home. I really enjoyed this one too <3
Thunderbird Three: A book you had to read in high school
I knew The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien would be the book I chose as soon as I wrote the prompt. I first read this book in my final year of high school as part of a study on short stories, and it was one of my first real exposures to the Vietnam War. I knew the bare bones of the conflict secondhand from friends who were studying history, I'd heard it mentioned a dozen times in TV and books, but in NZ when it came to military history we spent a lot more time discussing the events of Gallipoli and the ANZACs in WWI and of course the Holocaust in WWII (We can have a discussion another day about why we didn't even learn about the New Zealand Wars but whatever). So when I read it for the first time, I was struck by the raw brutality of it all, and it made a deep impact on me.
Now that I'm older, more than a decade on, I wanted to revisit it.
I know a lot of people who would want to analyse this book with a political framework, and I don't think it's wrong to do so, but I do think that if you do that you miss what this book is. The non-linear nature, the ruminating and revisions inherent in every story told, the oscillation between being blase and being horrifically scared and being alight with a monstrous rage and so on and so on and so on. It's a confronting novel and the way it meanders and feels so pointless at times was something I really struggled with this time around.
But then it's a story about drafted soldiers, trapped in a war they didn't choose and couldn't escape. What else could it have been?
Thunderbird Four: A book exploring somewhere new
The Apollo Missions: In the Astronaut's Own Words by Rod Pyle was not what I expected my pick to be. Even after I read it, I didn't immediately realise how well this fit the prompt. It's such a cool little nonfiction book, taking the transcripts of key points during each of the Apollo missions and pairing the astronauts' awe and wonder (and humour!) with photos from each of the missions was such a cool way to learn more about the goals, the successes and the failures faced in exploring the lunar surface for the first time.
It's such an incredible project that I still can't believe NASA achieved and I love learning more about it <3
(And from a Thunderbirds perspective... it was very fun to see some familiar names cropping up too!)
Thunderbird Five: A book featuring a non-organic lifeform
I won't lie, I 100% thought I was going to reread Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir for this one. But then, a book that had been sitting on my shelf for two years found its way into my suitcase when I went to Italy, and to my surprise it featured a non-organic lifeform! Kind of. I'm still not really sure what exactly the Fremda were...
I don't remember very much of this book to be honest. While the premise was interesting, I found the story got pretty bogged down fairly quickly and although it was fine and I enjoyed it enough to finish, I knew I wouldn't be continuing on with the series.
They can't all be winners I suppose ahaha
Anyway, that's my Thunderbirds Reading Challenge for 2024 all wrapped up! Hope you enjoyed a little foray into something different and once again let me know if you want to be tagged when I make the 2025 prompts <3
#chatter#reading challenge#what are tags#please excuse my indulgence I know this isn't as fun an update as fic :P#but enjoy all the same :D

A guide to Sofia Coppola: Films, Fashion and Music
Dream-esque, gilded cage, painfully beautiful and esoteric portrays the hazy art style of Sofia Coppola as she shows to Hollywood what it is like to be a girl. Marie Antoinette, Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, The Bling Ring (to list a few) are some of the most popular films made by Coppola. Her newest release that portrays the life of Priscilla Presley; "Priscilla", has gone viral on platforms like pinterest, tiktok and instagram sparking interest in the americana, cherry cola, sweet sixties and sugar coloured clothes worn in the film. The release of "Priscilla" has led to some of Coppola's other films being led out into the limelight. If you are looking for that woozy, romantic portrayal of girlhood and female suffering then Sofia Coppola's films may be perfect for you.

17 January 2024 - I ate some homemade pita for breakfast that Marie had made the night before. I finished packing up my things, and Marie dropped both me and Daniel off at the bus stop. Daniel, totally on his own, volunteered to accompany me to the airport and help me to carry my things. We rode the bus then the train to the airport. Once I checked into my flight, I checked my two big bags, and Daniel said I needed to take a photo in front of the SYD departures sign.
The plane took off at 2:30 pm. The flight was easy, only 3 hours, and NZ is +2 hours time zone from Sydney. So we landed at 7:30 pm. It took a LONG time to get through customs in New Zealand. They're REALLY serious about their biosecurity. I had like 200 g of kangaroo jerky in my bag, so I had to wait in the people-who-declared-meats line, which took over 90 minutes ⌛😡🥱🕑😴. I finally got through biosecurity and caught an Uber to Henderson around 9:40 pm. I arrived at Arnie's house at 10:12 pm. Arnie came out into the driveway and helped me carry my stuff inside. When we walked in, there was a video playing on the TV, it was Bryce Canyon! I pointed at the TV screen and said, "hey, that looks familiar, I've been there!" Arnie had put on a video of Utah scenery just as a welcome to the home! Arnie showed me the house, my room, the laundry, the kitchen, the lounge room, the back porch, the garden (with New Zealand plum trees). Arnie showed me photos of Piha (where the canyon is) that he took, and he showed me photos from the AWOL canyoning website. We chatted about Arnie's history, how he worked in Australia for 35 years, but came back to help out his parents who are in their 80s. We ate strawberries and plums while sitting on the back porch. Tomorrow, I'm going to meet our other housemate, Jimmy. And likely, I'm going to meet our neighbor, Mitch, who's an 80-something retired policeman/tour guide/security and has A LOT of stories to share. He offered me sausages that he'd grilled earlier that evening. I just get good vibes so far. Arnie seems like an outgoing extrovert. I think we're going to get along 😊.

Fox Glacier
I spent the day in Fox Glacier township today, starting with a heli hike on Fox Glacier! The only way to access Fox Glacier or Franz Josef Glacier now is by helicopter - in both cases, the walkways that led to the base of the glacier have been washed away by landslides and/or the changing course of the river. In Fox's case, it's a bit of both - a landslide that diverted the river to where the road and path used to be, completely wiping out parts of it. Because the weather on the west coast can be so cloudy and wet, the hikes are often canceled. Mine, however, went off without a hitch! Blue skies strike again!

We start with a safety briefing and equipment kit out before boarding a bus to the helicopter pad. They provide waterproof pants, jacket, boots, backpack, gloves, hat, you name it! Then, on the ice they give you crampons and poles to help you get around. The helicopter ride is really short - just about 2.5 minutes (a damn shame if you ask me! I wish they'd do a loop over the top so we could see it). I was pretty sure that the headsets would be David Clarks (they often are!), so I made sure to snag a pic - here's looking at you, Dad! (Dad works for David Clark - we always point out the headsets in movies and tv, but it's cool to know it's the standard, even all the way across the world).

Once we landed and they got us set up with our crampons, they split us into two groups and we started the hike. We saw Victoria Falls, a waterfall that used to be called Victoria Creek because it trickled straight onto the glacier. Just another reminder of how much the glacier has receded in recent years.

Along the tour, there were a few places where we could go into gaps in the ice, whether to climb down and back up, pop into a little nook, or slide through a little opening.

And some last photos here!

I was so glad to have gone in the morning because the clouds started to set in a bit as we were heading out. Here's a timelapse of the helicopter ride back - it's not the best view because I got relegated to the middle seat on the way back :(
After the hike, I headed to a nearby restaurant for some lunch before going on a few of the short walks around Fox Glacier. I went on four of the walking tracks, though two of them are really kind of subsets of the other two. The tracks were the Minnehaha Walk, Te Weheka Walkway, Fox Glacier South Side Walkway, and the Moraine Walk. It was a bit too much for my tired feet after the glacier hike, so I may be paying for it tomorrow! According to my phone, it would have been just over 14 km for the afternoon. These paths were great - some went through the rainforest, others followed the old path until it reached the part that washed away.

This is the site of the largest active landslide in NZ. The movement of the landslide varies a lot in response to rainfall. In heavy rain, it has moved as much as 700 mm a day!

These two pictures are two sides of the road where the middle has collapsed and been swept away.

And if you didn't go on a helicopter, this is about as close to the glacier as you can be! There may be other trails with a better view, but really nothing gets close anymore. And this photo is zoomed in so that you can actually see the glacier in the distance. If you go back and look at some of the pictures from the heli-hike that show the rock face, take a look for the moss line. That moss line would be where the glacier was in about 2008. Just look at how much has been lost in that short amount of time, and imagine what it will be like 20 years from now. Happy to take the time now to experience it.

Another thing I learned while waiting for the helicopter to pick us up before going back to base - the glacier reflects 90% of the UV rays back up at all of us. And since there is an ozone hole over NZ, one of the guides said "It's 190% of the sun shining on us all day." Now, I don't think that's completely accurate, but I was really glad for sunscreen! You should see some of the tan lines on those guides - sunglass and hat tans were rampant.

7 Ways to Use Digital Signage in the Hospitality Industry
In today's dynamic and competitive hospitality industry, digital signage has become increasingly important in shaping the guest experience. Digital signage, encompassing interactive displays and multimedia content, offers many benefits for hoteliers and businesses in the hospitality sector.
It provides a modern touch to the overall ambience and significantly enhances the guest experience, making it more convenient, engaging, and personalised. This blog post will explore seven impactful ways digital signage can elevate the guest experience, from interactive wayfinding solutions to personalised guest communication.
1. Interactive Wayfinding Solutions
Digital signage is a powerful tool for providing interactive wayfinding solutions within hotel premises. Digital maps and directions allow guests to easily navigate the property, locate amenities, and find their desired destinations without confusion. This feature significantly reduces the stress and frustration often associated with getting around unfamiliar surroundings, ultimately enhancing convenience and comfort for visitors.
2. Dynamic Menu Boards
Dynamic menu boards are one of the most visually striking applications of Digital Signage NZ in the hospitality industry. These digital displays showcase vibrant, high-resolution images of food and beverage offerings, effectively capturing guests' attention. Moreover, the flexibility of updating menus in real-time allows businesses to promote daily specials, adjust pricing, and eliminate the costs associated with traditional printed menus. This enhances the dining areas' aesthetic appeal and provides an efficient means of conveying menu information to guests.
3. Engaging Entertainment Displays
Digital signage presents an opportunity to entertain and inform guests through captivating visual displays. Whether it's live TV broadcasts, event schedules, or local attraction highlights, these multimedia presentations engage and immerse guests in a way that traditional signage cannot. By showcasing hotel amenities and nearby points of interest, hotels can enrich the overall guest experience, providing valuable information while enhancing the ambience.

4. Real-Time Event Promotion
Using digital signage NZ for real-time event promotion is invaluable for hotels and resorts. Whether it's promoting on-site conferences, special activities, or entertainment events, digital displays can instantly update event information, keeping guests informed and engaged. This agility in conveying event details contributes to a seamless and enjoyable experience for guests, allowing them to make informed choices about participating in various activities.
5. Personalised Guest Communication
In the realm of hospitality, personalisation is key to creating memorable experiences. Digital signage lets businesses display personalised messages for VIP guests, special occasions, or loyalty program members. This tailored approach adds a sense of exclusivity and care, making guests feel genuinely valued and appreciated. Whether a personalised welcome message for a returning guest or a special birthday greeting, Visit Website of a reputable digital signage provider. They will offer a promotional digital signage for meaningful connections with guests individually.
6. Digital Concierge Services
Digital signage can serve as a virtual concierge, providing guests access to various information and services. Kiosk-style displays offer local area guides, transportation options, dining recommendations, and even the ability to make restaurant reservations. By integrating these digital concierge services, hotels can enhance the overall guest experience, providing valuable assistance and guidance, all at the guests' fingertips.
7. Branding and Promotions
Beyond enhancing the guest experience, digital signage NZ is a powerful tool for branding and promotional efforts. Hotels can seamlessly integrate branding elements into their digital displays, reinforcing their identity and values. Additionally, digital signage provides a platform for promoting loyalty programs, special offers, and upcoming events, effectively capturing guests' attention and encouraging active participation.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the versatility and impact of digital signage in the hospitality industry cannot be overstated. Digital signage has become indispensable for elevating the guest experience, from providing interactive wayfinding solutions to personalised guest communication. As technology continues to evolve, businesses in the hospitality sector are encouraged to embrace digital signage to enhance customer satisfaction and differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive landscape.
By leveraging digital signage capabilities, hotels and resorts can create immersive and memorable experiences for their guests, ultimately setting new standards for hospitality excellence. As the industry evolves, adopting digital signage will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the future of guest interactions and experiences.

about me
I'm finally making a post to pin to the top of my blog so people know what they are getting into.
Firstly my presence here is sporadic, I'll post daily for 6 months then nothing for 2 and then I'll be back for a week or whatever. Life gets busy and sometimes it's tumblr that suffers.
I belive in kindness and acceptance for everyone. It's doesn't matter who you are or anything you deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. I try my best here to be good and kind but if I'm not i'll learn and do better next time. Some days I feel a bit communist. Mostly I'm a socialist. I'm always a Feminist.
I love science. Carl Sagan as well as some other science related experiences have changed my life. I don't belive in the scientific method. Science doesn't need belief. It's beutiful and wonderful and mad and real. We are on a space rock that's warping the fabric of space time while it orbits a burning ball of gas in a spiraling galaxy nestled in an infinite universe. We are all made of atoms forged in stars.
In gernal I post a confusing cocktail of shit. Good omens, doctor who, discworld, terry pratchett, hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, neil gaiman, the sandman, last week tonight, John oliver, David tennant, ghosts (tv show), taskmaster uk and nz, British comedy, Robin hobb, realm of the elderlings, lord of the rings, and jane austen are all things I'm fans of that I may posts about. Plus whatever else takes my fancy and becomes my obsession.
Im also a writer of poetry and short fiction who has had some success and been published in some anthologies and what not which is fun. I'll encourage anyone to write and tell their story their way. Never be scared to submit your writing somewhere. Rejection letters are badges of honor and I have tonnes!!!!!
Currently I'm working as a librariarian before going off to university next year, so that may come up to.
so that's me. C ya round.

The Ultimate Guide to Spring Cleaning Your Home in NZ
Spring is a season of renewal, and what better way to embrace the freshness of this time than by indulging in a thorough spring cleaning of your home? In New Zealand, where the seasons bring unique challenges and beauty, spring cleaning takes on added significance. It’s not just about tidying up; it’s about preparing your living space for the brighter days ahead.

Before diving into the actual cleaning, take a moment to set clear goals. Identify specific areas or aspects of your home that need attention. This might include decluttering, deep cleaning carpets, or organizing kitchen cabinets. Creating a realistic schedule is crucial, as it ensures that you don’t feel overwhelmed by trying to tackle everything at once.
Break down tasks into manageable chunks and allocate time for each. As you plan, gather the necessary supplies – cleaning solutions, microfiber cloths, garbage bags, and any other tools you might need.
Room-by-Room Cleaning Checklist
Kitchen
Begin your spring cleaning journey in the heart of your home – the kitchen. Start by cleaning your appliances, from the microwave to the oven. Pull out and organize the contents of your cabinets and pantry, discarding any expired items. Finish by deep cleaning surfaces, wiping down countertops, and scrubbing the floors.
Living Room
In the living room, focus on dusting and polishing furniture. Pay special attention to electronics, such as TV screens and gaming consoles. Clean upholstery and carpets, removing any stains or odors. Declutter by organizing items on shelves and in storage bins.
Bedrooms
Move on to the bedrooms, where a fresh start begins with changing bedding and mattresses. Declutter closets, donating or discarding items you no longer need. Clean and organize dressers, making it easier to find what you need each morning.
Bathroom
The bathroom is a space that requires thorough cleaning. Scrub and sanitize surfaces, paying attention to often-neglected areas like tile grout. Organize toiletries and cabinets, discarding expired or unused items. Consider replacing or cleaning shower curtains for a fresh look.
Home Office/Study
If you have a home office or study space, declutter by organizing papers and documents. Clean electronics like your computer, keyboard, and mouse. Create an inspiring workspace by rearranging furniture or adding personal touches.
Deep Cleaning Tips
In addition to regular cleaning tasks, consider incorporating deep cleaning into your routine. For carpets and upholstery, steam cleaning is an effective method to remove deep-seated dirt and stains. Windows should be cleaned inside and out, allowing more natural light to filter into your home. Don’t forget about air ducts and vents – cleaning these can improve air quality and reduce allergens.
Outdoor Spaces
Extend your cleaning efforts to outdoor spaces. Begin with the garage – clean and organize tools, sports equipment, and other items. Move on to lawn and garden maintenance, trimming overgrown bushes and removing debris. Clean outdoor furniture, ensuring it’s ready for use during the warmer months.
Sustainable Spring Cleaning

Make your spring cleaning efforts eco-friendly by using sustainable practices. Opt for eco-friendly cleaning products, which are not only better for the environment but also for your health. When decluttering, separate items for recycling and dispose of them responsibly. Consider donating items that are still in good condition rather than sending them to the landfill. These small changes can contribute to a greener and cleaner environment.
Safety Considerations
As you embark on your spring cleaning adventure, prioritize safety. Handle cleaning chemicals with care, following instructions on labels. Ensure proper ventilation by opening windows and doors, especially when using strong cleaning agents. Consider wearing gloves and a mask for additional protection. If you have respiratory issues, use caution and choose cleaning products that are less likely to trigger allergies.
Maintaining a Clean Home
Once the deep cleaning is complete, the key is to maintain a clean and organized home. Establish regular cleaning routines that fit into your schedule. Involve family members in the process, assigning age-appropriate tasks. Small, daily habits such as wiping down surfaces, doing a quick declutter, or sweeping the floors can go a long way in maintaining the cleanliness you worked so hard to achieve.
