You’re dating the cutest dork, what did you expect?
Absolutely abuses his ability to lift you up when he hugs you

Does not and will not stand for any y/n slander if you even hint that you’re worried you’re too heavy for him
Darling he will bench-press you to prove a point—
He absolutely lives for your smile
Sleepy smiles, goofy smiles, shy smiles – the lot I’m telling you
So expect this man to pull off the goofiest shit when you’re together
Even when the members come round to visit

His favourite kind
And you have such a kissable neck (his words), how could he possibly not?
Speaking of neck kisses

Yeah I hate when they wanna bag the rising stars only to not give them any time on the field, because it's too crowded. That's why I often don't understand why players would rather be on the bench in a big club than be a star of a semi-big club. Money or prestige I guess? (Fabregas going from Arsenal's captain to some guy in Barca....) Yep RM is guilty of this as well.
I'm forever a striker <3 you? What's your number and position in The Blues? Varane what??? Wait, you scared me, thought he was retiring in general. Not surprising considering the drama in France
I forgot to mention the Gr**nw**d shit in my previous message, but I'm infuriated. I'm glad many fans don't support him, but fucking hell, him and M*nd* should play in Prison League together
I have a long list of vegan places, look skdhahsuwhahhss. But what's funny is, I'm the most excited to visit this little food place again. The food is typical street food, only a few menu items, it's cheap, but so so good!
God I would probably have to block everyone going to the concerts, nothing personal just my pettiness (actually no, some things are personal)
Aw, I know people are looking forward to the Yunho fic, but if you really can't do it then don't pressure yourself. Question, why did you decide to write for Yunho, was it a temporary moment? My god, poor Hannah went through a lot, hopefully her wig was in tact 😭 Bratz girls were serving, yesss. Wait did you play the My Scene games?
You're young miss Baeksy, so I won't hold it against you, but Skins was a rollercoaster, very Br'i'sh too. I remember It's a Boy Girl Thing, I actually watched it in 2020 again, kinda creepy at times tbh, but I liked the chemistry
Wdym Tasir doesn't exist, his real, but in a different world 😭😅 yep, the amount of times I tried to defeat Barca and avenge Real, unhinged lmao

Cuteeee omg Atinys and Stays when, they used to be married. But this 😭
Vivi and Hyunjin filled the lawsuit now and wtf is Universal JP doing I'm not sure it's a good thing, just leave them alone!!! But also I hope they find a way to come back
Chris Lee and his fucking uncle need to be buried, omg I hate this I don't even care about NCT that much, but this is fucked up. So I understand why Lookass was chosen for SuperM, but I don't understand the hype behind him anyway, he's okay looking but there are hotter people in NCT or WayV, ok he did variety, I liked him on Keep Running with Yuqi, but he wasn't THAT funny. Yangyang is funnier, a better dancer and rapper, prettier and speaks English, but people drool over Lookas? Jail.
Have you seen the clips from Boys Planet, ifk whether I should laugh or cry, they're setting them up. And Hui... they're trying to bait us, tell me this is a bait. Also damn boy, you're good you don't need a mediocre show to prove your skills :(

Vivi and Hyunjin filled the lawsuit now and wtf is Universal JP doing I'm not sure it's a good thing, just leave them alone!!! But also I hope they find a way to come back
if the company takes their name away, i want them to comeback as LUUNA or LUNA,, the jpn thing is probably gonna be terrible actually ,,, like they’ll drop a emotional song perhaps and then go on a “break” it’s so frustrating as an outsider but they all must be in a rush to end things and find agencies I KNOW SM CAN SIGN THEM BUT I DONT WANT THEM THERE 😭😭😭
Chris Lee and his fucking uncle need to be buried, omg I hate this I don't even care about NCT that much, but this is fucked up. Yangyang is funnier, a better dancer and rapper, prettier and speaks English, but people drool over Lookas? Jail.
no seriously, the amount of damage they’ve done to sm and it’s artists is ridiculous,, no bc a whole taeyong exists,, no need for lookass 😭😭 yangyang EASILY takes over his position and lookass doesn’t even get that many lines so why even??? nOW HE WAS FUNNY AT THE VARIETY he suits that genre a lot and might as well be part of that more than the group,,, ur right wayv by itself are perfectly fine,, their vocals are good w/o his and same for superm bc he got that one line in jopping and said it’s done,, other’s can easily cover him up 😭😭😭 chris lee it’s in sight
Have you seen the clips from Boys Planet, ifk whether I should laugh or cry, they're setting them up. And Hui... they're trying to bait us, tell me this is a bait. Also damn boy, you're good you don't need a mediocre show to prove your skills :(

For your WIPs, things Soos probably knows about Stan? And/or post canon summers?
Thank you, and sorry I didn't answer this sooner!
"Things Soos knows" was me brainstorming which parts of Stan's Mysterious Past Soos has already figured out.
I think (as I said somewhere else) that Soos must have guessed that Stan has a long-lost twin, from the indications Stan's dropped over the years, and I think he also knows that one of them was Stanley and one was Stanford, even if (like the fans pre-NWHS) he doesn't know which was which. He also knows that Stan had a bad dad (I'm SURE Filbrick has come up obliquely enough times for him to get that) and that Stan is up to SOMETHING because sometimes you come to the Shack and he's not there but then he IS there and acts like he was all along. Can he teleport? Is there a secret room in the Shack? Does Mr. Pines have a secret superhero identity he's hiding?? It's definitely one of those!
Oh, and Soos is also aware of all the Gravity Falls weirdness and knows that Stan always tells him not to talk about weird stuff or people will think he's crazy. (This is the actual advice Soos gave Dipper in "Tourist Trapped," so...) I imagine that Soos doesn't see the weirdness as a secret so much as "something you don't talk about," and also he's not great at distinguishing genuine weirdness from other stuff, but he does assume Stan is...not unaware of the weirdness, I guess. Which he's right about, but from a funny angle.
(In reality, of course, Stan probably told him not to talk about it as a way of shielding him from the SotBE's attention. But Soos doesn't know about them--and Stan may only have a vague idea of who/what they really are, tbf--so he accepted Stan's advice at face value.)
---
My post-canon summers doc is just notes on things I like to imagine about how Gravity Falls looks, 5-10 years post-canon. It never completely gelled, but some ideas (my own thoughts and things I picked up from fandom):
Gideon and Pacifica maybe forming some sort of formerly-terrible-kids support group
Wendy becomes a big-sister figure to Candy and Grenda and maybe Pacifica as well
Fiddleford fills his new mansion with robots but also all the kids in town like to go there to explore--it's open to everyone 24/7, basically, and you're welcome to camp out in one of the 175 spare bedrooms if you want (I like the idea of him reversing the Northwests' closed-off legacy)
Melody becomes a big-sister figure to Wendy (I still think this is a very important friendship, because they're both Shack crew now but also because Wendy has no women in her life! Melody's friendship would be so good!)
Stan gets renamed "Grandpa Mystery" at some point, once Soos has had his first kid. Ford is maybe Doctor Mystery?
And also the town adds like half-a-dozen new holidays to its regular summer calendar:
The day all the Pines Twins come back every year, there's always a party at the Shack, and it's unofficially the beginning of summer
(Stan and Ford's birthday is smaller--they don't like a big public party, I think. Townspeople still wish them happy birthday and get them presents, and there's always talk of making it a public holiday because of Town Hero Stanley Pines, but it's less of an event.)
Soos's birthday is the happiest party of the summer! Everyone loves Mr. Mystery, so the Mystery Twins and the rest of his family organize a big celebration at the Shack every year and the whole town makes sure to show up. Soos cries every year, too, but they're happy tears.
The craziest party of the summer is the one held at NW Mansion every year, though--funded by Fiddleford's money and organized/hosted by Pacifica. It's full of stuff you'd normally need to pay exorbitantly for at an amusement park or something--lots of unhealthy food, unsafe-yet-thrilling rides built by McGucket from scratch, incredible fireworks, all the rich-people stuff you can think of--and it's all 100% free. It's way over the top.
And then there's August 24th. It doesn't have a name, and people don't talk about it much, but on that day every summer, people get potluck dishes prepared and just get together in the town square with food and bonfires and togetherness. The friendlier anomalies are welcome too, and everyone tells stories that don't get told any other day of the year--stories about a red sky, and fighting for your lives, and monsters and madness and miracles. There are folk songs, and triangles are burned in effigy. The Pines Family are always warmly welcomed there.
The last party of the year is the Mystery Twins' birthday, which is another big day at the Shack. It's always a little sad, because it means the end of summer and the imminent departures of most of the Pineses, but it's also a happy celebration.
...Turns out my headcanons are mostly about parties.
I'm good with that.

Hey again, Nutella! I loved your analysis of the lack of Jonsa in the trailer—you’re right, withholding that info will definitely increase the potential for a great Jonsa twist! Is it bad that I kind of want Jon to be deposed just so that we can have a War of Three Queens”? I’ve been toying with this idea since S6, and if it ever happened I would actually scream—like what a crazy way to see all the badass/scary ladies who have climbed up through the seasons go absolutely ham on each other!!!
Hello, 8011!
First I’d like to say thank you! And I am so glad that you liked it ☺️
To start off, it’s not bad at all. Jon has been a main character since we first met him and he was part of the main 3 as the big baddies of the season.
Tumblr media
(Photo not mine)
Jon is a King in his own right but unfortunately last season we didn’t get to see much of how his leadership skills compare to those of the fellow rulers whom he spent most of the season with. Daenerys and Cersei and I think that’s because for the most part, not only was he stuck as a prisoner on a mission of his own, we already know how Jon is as a ruler. We’ve seen him in action as Lord Commander of the NW so we have martial that we can use to see the differences between him and these two queens.
I actually wanna talk a bit about how amazing it would be to see these 3 queens in action and opposing each other.
But there was a 3rd queen added in season 7 who’s leadership skills contrasted drastically with Cersei and Daenerys way of ruling. Sansa’s skills as a ruler blossomed quite beautifully once Jon left her in charge of Winterfell/The North. It left me even more excited for her upcoming storyline once shit really hits the fan. She’s a queen all but in name and her ideologies are nearly poler opposites to the women who claim themselves as queens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Gifs not mine. If you see yours and want it either removed or credited, please let me know)
Sansa is managing to get those around her sticking together and working together. She even tells LF that she knows the Northmen are eager to go home and she’s trying her best to hold them down for when the real fight begans. Meanwhile, we have Cersei who finds herself completely alone by the end of season 7. And Daenerys who had the potential to bring more to her cause but due to her arrogance only led to thousands of deaths that could have been crucial in the war against the NK.
Sansa is the only 1 out of the 3 who’s power comes from trust, respect, and love of her people. Daenerys and Cersei only gain their following from fear.
Tumblr media

Tumblr media Tumblr media
All 3 women know of the threat of the NK and his undead army. Both Cersei and Daenerys have seen it for themselves and still, they let power be their number one priority. Cersei refusing to aid in the war and if Daenerys didn’t get the faux ceasefire from Cersei, who knows if Jon would have been able to convince her North. Meanwhile, Sansa only has the words of Jon and she acknowledges and even defends the threat it poses to them all to LF. Even if she doesn’t particularly agree with Jon, even if she thinks there are more than one threat to their safety, Sansa is willing to put her trust and believe something she’s never even seen for herself. Now I know, she does trust Jon and has more reason to. But the point is Cersei and Dany have seen it and they still won’t give up on the Iron Throne.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIF not mine)
Tumblr media
(GIF not mine)
Both Cersei and Daenerys yearn for power. They have actively sought it out while Sansa takes it up when power is given to her. But she never sought power for power. And when Bran comes home her first thought is to give her position as Lord of Winterfell to Bran as the next heir. I think in a lot of ways Sansa parallels how Robb and Jon handled power when given to them. They don’t do it for themselves but for their home/duty/loved ones. That’s what makes them so different in so many important aspects of a ruler.
We also have to dilemma with the food. While queens like Daenerys burned the food, and Cersei’s main priority was keeping the Iron Throne all season long, Sansa was storing and prepping for winter. One of the only characters who was actually getting real shit done that went beyond political ambitions.
All 3 have different ideologies and it would be interesting seeing how all 3 would interact with each other. Something I believe Sansa will do next season with both Cersei and Daenerys. I also think the fruit of their labor will be shown with the food supply. Cersei has her gold, no food. Daenerys had her field of fire, no food. And Sansa will be the only one who’s people will not starve.
These women have each come so far. In season 5 alone they were at their lowest and by the end of season 6 they found themselves above their struggles and out on top again. These women are survivors each fighting for something they believe in. Whether that is actually a good thing for them later on is something else entirely. They each have qualities that could make for great rulers and the potential is there. But if their talents are not applied, and personal demons get in the way, I’d love to see how these women clash and when it comes down to the nitty gritty, who’s the queen best for rebuilding the kingdoms and its people after the NK. We already had the war of the Five Kings, bring on the war of the 3 queens!
Thanks for the ask!

BEER 3.0 Hey! “Social” Safeway
Wow. I feel like I’ve untapped a special resource that is Safeway’s beer section.
I am a new found fan of Safeway – I have never been to one before. On a sunny Sunday afternoon I went to the Safeway located at 1855 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007. This is right in the affluent Georgetown neighborhood. This is definitely a superstore and you get the feeling that you could find anything and everything you need for your kitchen here. The sheer size of the store when I walked in was eye-catching. The lighting was bright white and is mirrored by the linoleum floors.
Nobody could come to look for beer and leave empty handed. Everyone could find a beer they like in this massive selection. Plus, this is considered the “social” Safeway - so you may make a friend or two, or meet a significant other!
According to Safeway’s website, their mission is to “be the first choice for those customers who have the ability to shop locally in a Safeway store.” The items on offer were vast in number and variety and were reasonably priced, making this an attractive place for buying beer. The prices were shown on their bright yellow price tags.
The beer section was located in the far back corner of the store, but the walk to get there is totally worth it. At first I looked at the end cap of the beer offerings and saw large boxes of notable brands such as Heineken and Corona. Prices were reasonable: $14.99 for a 12-pack of Heineken.
Tumblr media
Then much to my delight, as I turned the corner an entire aisle of beer appeared! I was shocked. This aisle seemed to be never ending with its incredible beer options and was fully stocked. This aisle was split up into 4 sections: micro brew, craft beer, premium beer, and domestic beer. Safeway easily points its customers to the beer they are looking for, but also makes it easy to browse for a new one.
A “Choose Your Brew” section offered customers the option to pick a mixture of 6 bottles or cans of beer to make your own six-pack. This allows customers to test different brands without needing to buy a whole set of them. One six-pack costs $10.99, which I would say is pretty good since you get to mix and match.
Tumblr media
My favorite part of Safeway’s beer aisle was that above every section, were short, catchy notes suggesting food pairings. For example, one tip for Pale Ale  suggested pairing it with: burgers, cream based sauces/soups, cheddar cheese, or carrot cake. A pretty random mix, but cool nonetheless!
On this Sunday afternoon, I was the only person browsing the beer aisle. My guess is that most people were out enjoying the sunshine rather than shopping for beer. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very social experience for me.
A few of my favorite brand names on offer at this store were The Corruption, Voodoo Ranger, and All Day IPA.

Your Guide to Feasting (and Drinking) Through Portland Happen to be in town for Feast too? Thinking about planning a trip anyway? Here's how to eat (and drink) your way through Portland's best. Welcome to Portland! Photo by scott1346 via Flickr.  Portland and I had a good run: I turned 21 at a now-thriving cider bar where my roommates and I tried to start an under-handed darts league, I slung cupcakes while taking a postbac class in archeology, and I built my own bike.  Honestly, I moved to Portland, Oregon on a dare, before Portlandia had aired or Pok Pok had become famous. It was there I witnessed “put a bird on it” first hand, watched as the small restaurant Jam grew to five-times its size, and benefited from classic food carts going brick and mortar. It’s been about three years since I called Portland home, but I go back every year—here are the places I cannot miss when I visit. (Please add yours in the comments, too!)  More: Our community has slew of recommendations, too. Find them here.   The shelves at Powell's City of Books. Photo by Kenny Louie via Flickr. To get around Portland like a pro, you’ll need a crash course in PDX navigation. Portland is divided into quadrants: Southwest, Southeast, Northwest, and Northeast (which, for this purpose, includes North Portland). Each “quadrant” has a few different commercial streets where you’ll find most of the shopping, eating, bookstores, coffee shops, and other ephemera. And look out for Burnside, the street that divides the city north and south on both sides of the Willamette river.  Southwest: You’ll find downtown Portland, Powell’s books, the farmers market, and the biggest food cart pod in Portland. Don't stay here, but do check it out at least once. Southeast: I lived here, so I speak with an acknowledged bias when I say it’s the best. The main streets to check out are Hawthorn, Division, Clinton, and Belmont. Sellwood is a little further south, but it’s quaint and worth the treck.  Northwest: This part of town is a little more mainstream, but if you're looking for a fun day of shopping and pastries, 23rd Ave is hard to beat.  Northeast: N.E. is hip—get lost in art fairs, independent bookstores, and beer bars; Mississippi, Williams, and Alberta are all worth exploring. Getting Around: Portland is best seen by bike or foot. (The more exploring you do, the more likely you are to find a bungalow that will have you calling your realtor.) Remember, if your legs are tired, or you are trying to go the distance, public transit (buses and the MAX) is your friend. The Must-Do List: Drink coffee at Heart. Go to the Burnside location—this is a coffee shop that knows how to cortado. Give yourself a little extra time, get your coffee to stay, and snag a sidewalk seat for one of the best Portland pastimes: people watching. Shop at New Seasons Market. You may not be on vacation to go grocery shopping, but New Seasons Market is a fun stop all the same. They sell local produce, have an amazing sampling policy, and I like to use their home goods section as a souvenir shop.  Spend an Afternoon at Powell’s City of Books. If you haven’t heard of Powell’s, better late than never: This Portland book store takes up a whole city block, has color-coded rooms, a café, and everything your book-loving, board-gaming self could ever desire. If you're only in it for the cookbooks, they have a store dedicated to the home on Hawthorne.  So the line is long. This one is worth it—we promise.   Satisfy your sweet tooth: Salt and Straw (NW/SE/NE): This ice cream joint lives up to its hype. Lines can wrap around the block, so do what I do: Buy a pint, skip the line, and eat ice cream straight from the container with friends. If you want the full experience—a cone, and lots of samples—the line is a must. Blue Star (SE/NE/SW): I’m telling you what I tell all of my friends. Voodoo Donuts isn’t worth your time. The line is too long (even for Portland standards) and the donuts are often stale. Instead head to Blue Star—they have four locations, bless them—and their donuts are some of the best I’ve had. Ken’s Artisan Bakery (NW): Please go here, even if it’s the only reason you go to NW. Get the morning buns, and a loaf of bread if you're planning a picnic for later.  Two Tarts (NW): The cookies here are excellent, but tiny—so get five. (At least.) I go for the salted chocolate chip.  Say it with us: Brunch early, brunch often.  Your new motto? Brunch early. Brunch Often.  Jam on Hawthorne (SE): Jam’s build-your-own-hash brown bowls and squeeze bottles of inventive homemade jam at every table make me swoon every time. Screen Door (SE): Have brunch here, but bring a coffee because chances are good the line will be long—Portlanders know it’s good. Olympic Provisions (SE): This sausage maker might be better known for the saucisson sec sold nationwide, but it's also one of the best brunches in town. Get there right when they open.  Pine State Biscuits (SE/NE): These are some of the best biscuits in the north. (Bonus points for combining them with a trip to the farmers market on Saturday morning.)   Get your food cart badge. Big Ass Sandwiches (NE): The name of this food cart does not lie. Their sandwiches are huge and house layers of meat, fries, and cheese sauce. Fried Egg I’m in Love (SE): Go for breakfast. Get the Sriracha Mix-a-lot.  The Big Egg (NE): This beloved breakfast cart is moving on to a brick and mortar—which is good news because sometimes it can take over an hour to get one of their ridiculously good breakfast burritos. Pro tip: Always go with the bacon.  Honkin’ Huge Burritos (SW): This is known as the food cart that started it all—it’s been in operation for over 20 years. Each vegetarian burrito is made by the cart owner herself, Shelly, and they are the best burritos in town. The best. Order an Andrea. Viking Soul Food (SE): This cart, which makes wraps out of lefse, is in the Belmont pod which hosts other gems like Namu. Bring all of your friends here, and try everything.  Where to take your dinner date: Toro Bravo (NE): Get a “French Kiss” and a few plates before heading to a show at the Wonder Ballroom next door. Bollywood Theater (NE/SE): This restaurant is a Portland institution. Always start with an order of Papri Chaat, then find a table in the warehouse-like space. The best part is sharing, so bring a crowd—that way you can try everything.  Lardo (SE/NE/SW): Lardo started as a food cart and has grown into a mini sandwich empire. Everything is great, but I go for the meatball báhn mì with a Moscow mule. Sizzle Pie (E Burnside/SW): Did things go late? Grab a slice here.  Sen Yai (SE): Head here for lunch or dinner. You can walk down the street and enjoy the Whiskey Soda Lounge and Pok Pok to make a crawl of it.   Apex has 50 brews on tap. Photo by Simon Wright via Flickr.  Where to grab a beer: Belmont Station (SE): Known for having the biggest beer selection in Portland, this is a place you can’t miss if you’re a fan of fermentation. Cascade Brewing Barrell House (SE): If you like your beers sour, this place is for you.  Basecamp (SE): Basecamp is a newer brewery, but they have things figured out. I recommend coming with a board game in tow to take full advantage of their front yard.  Apex (SE): If you're a beer and burrito person, this is the bar for you. Apex is located right next to Los Gorditos, a vegan (and non-vegan) friendly burrito joint with an amazing salsa bar. Things to do when you can’t eat anymore: OMSI After Dark (SE): This over-21 event happens at the Museum of Science and Industry. It happens every last Wednesday, and happy hour starts at 5 P.M—the theme changes every month, but they always have exciting vendors and events.  Forest Park and The Rose Garden (SW): Portland has been named the Rose City for good reason. You can head to the Rose Garden to see the city's best blooms and catch a great view of the city. If hikes are more your style, check out the rest of Forest Park, where you can wander through lush greenery for hours.  Overlook Park (NE): Here is the best sunset spot in the city. The Ultimate One-Week Pacific Northwest Road Trip Itinerary • The Blonde Abroad
Jenna of Tales of the Vineyards recently traveled to Napa Valley, California for a 5-month wine harvest job. After wrapping up long hours working in the cellar and scrubbing her wine-stained hands, another epic adventure was all she had on her mind.
Jumping in a campervan with her harvest best friend Sarah, she journeyed out on the ultimate one-week Pacific Northwest road trip. Here’s Jenna with all the info!
As a first-timer on the West Coast, my list of places to visit and things to do was infinite. Coming from South Africa, a country that’s only a tenth of the size of the United States, it’s easy to forget the sheer size of one US state.
All I knew was that I was ready for a USA road trip of a lifetime (another first) and wanted to tick off at least one national park from my list.
After chatting to a couple of my friends in Napa and doing my own research, I came to the conclusion that venturing out to the usual suspects of California like Yosemite and Big Sur just wasn’t going to cut it.
Sitting on the couch one night with my housemate, she mentioned Glacier National Park in Montana and that was it—Sarah and I were going to drive over 1,400 miles from San Francisco to Glacier National Park with a few stops along the way…in winter!
Here’s the ultimate one-week Pacific Northwest road trip itinerary!
The Best  Time to Visit
Truth be told, winter isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. While the Pacific Northwest never reaches extreme summer temperatures, if rain, snow, and -17 degrees Celsius don’t sound like a fun time, then be sure to schedule this road trip for summer.
No matter the season, the Pacific Northwest has beauty around every corner.
Whether it’s sunny days wandering through the lush vineyards of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, frequenting the summer markets of Portland, or trekking through the snow-covered mountains of Glacier National Park, every season offers something special.
Top Spots to Visit on a Pacific Northwest Road Trip
Whether you’re starting your road trip in California and seeing some of the top sites on Pacific Coast Highway, or you’re wanting to explore all of the West Coast—I’ve got a number of places for you to check out!

Traveling in a Campervan in Winter
Going on a road trip in a campervan in winter seems daunting (and foolish) to most, but really, it’s doable as long as you go prepared. An extra duvet, a warm jacket, fairy lights, and plenty of coffee go a long way!
The main reason we chose to get a campervan was the freedom it would give us in staying wherever we wanted, especially when it came to National Parks. We rented our campervan from Lost Campers based in San Francisco as their options were extremely affordable and included unlimited miles.
We went with their Sierra Class van which included:
A bed for 2 with linen
Kitchen kit (pots, coffee mugs, cups, cutlery)
A double burner stove (hello, coffee!)
A sink with water
Storage space
Battery-operated cooler box
After a few friends saying we were crazy to even think about sleeping in a campervan in winter, we decided to bring along an extra duvet and blanket just in case. When you hit those negative temperatures, these definitely come in handy.
Traveling and sleeping in a campervan has its highs and lows. I have no doubt that getting one during summertime would definitely be a little easier – sleeping, changing, and socializing in a small van can be tricky to navigate when you’re trying to avoid stepping foot out into snowy or rainy weather.
With that said, it really just adds to the adventure and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. It allowed us to be flexible, to always have our things close by, and made us realize how little you need to go on an unbelievable trip.
Simple things like standing to change your clothes or rummaging through a cupboard start to feel like luxuries.
  Helpful Tip:
Road tripping in winter, your chances of coming across snowy roads are pretty high. Make sure to include snow chains in any sort of car or campervan rental and know how to put them on – you don’t want to be caught off guard and left in the middle of nowhere making friends with the local moose.
Day 1 – San Francisco to McMinnville
Via I-5 – Approximately 9.5-Hour Drive
Eager to get the show on the road, start your day early and knock a big distance out of the way. Take in the beautiful scenery on the drive with snowy mountains in the distance, lush forests lining the highway, and an even chillier bite in the air.
On arrival in McMinnville, a historic little town in the heart of Oregon’s wine country, throw on a jacket and wander its streets adorned with twinkling lights. Explore one of the many bars before settling in at a cozy restaurant.
After a well-deserved meal and with hopefully a second wind kicking in, pop into the Conservatory Bar. Serving up incredible cocktails and local beers, they’re known for their winter warmers that are perfect for combatting the outside chill.
If you see their hot buttered rum on the menu, do yourself a favor and order one right away.
Suggestions:
One of the many Willamette Valley wineries
Day 2 – McMinnville to Portland
Via Pacific Highway W – Approximately 1-Hour Drive
Before hitting the road, grab a coffee and breakfast on NE 3rd Street at Community Plate (pictured above). A cute, upbeat cafe that’s great for a quick bite to eat or something a little slower paced if you’re not in any rush.
Oregon is known for producing incredible Pinot Noir wine (and plenty others), so a trip to a couple of wineries on your way to Portland is a must for any wine lover. Make sure to make an appointment beforehand and be prepared for unreal photo opportunities.
After a day of vino and vineyards, arrive in the beautiful city of Portland. Known for its hipsters and coffee culture, grab a cuppa joe on your way to the Pearl District for dinner. Wander down NW 13th to admire the refurbished deep-red buildings before settling down for a tasty meal.
Willamette Valley Wineries to Visit:
Bergström – Incredible Pinot Noir and Chardonnay using fruit from four of the Willamette Valley’s best appellations
Lingua Franca – Producing wines that reflect the true expression of their fruit, Lingua Franca is known for their premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
Chateau Deluxe – For those looking for something special, Chateau Deluxe is a small producer creating seriously good Pet-Nat (natural sparkling wine)
Day 3 – Portland
Winter in Portland is guaranteed to be a wet one so make sure you’ve got a great waterproof jacket for wandering the streets.
Start your day at one of the many cute coffee shops scattered throughout the city or head straight to Mississippi Avenue for a bit of morning shopping. Browse the boutique stores or stop at The Meadow to stock up on delicious snacks for the road.
If you’re as big a fan of cheese as I am, take a drive to the Cheese Bar on SE Belmont Street for one of the best cheese boards of your life paired with a glass (or bottle) of local wine. Next up, head to Powell’s Books – the world’s largest independent bookstore – to grab an interesting read for the road ahead.
A culinary highlight and dinner-must when visiting Portland is Pok Pok in SE Division. Serving unbelievable dishes inspired by Thai street food since 2005, Ike’s Vietnamese Fish Sauce Wings and the Papaya Pok Pok salad are what foodie dreams are made of.
Day 4 – Portland to Seattle
Via I-5 N – Approximately 3-Hour Drive
Start your morning early for the 3-hour drive to Seattle. You’ll want to get there before the crazy afternoon traffic hits – something we definitely didn’t think about.
Although pretty rainy and gloomy during winter, don’t be fooled, Seattle never sleeps. Park your car for the night and hit the streets. Head to the George Washington Memorial Bridge to snap a picture with the famous Fremont Troll – a gigantic troll sculpture living under the bridge with roots in Norwegian folk culture.
Next up, visit the iconic Space Needle for unbelievable views. And if twinkly lights tickle your fancy, head there later at night to see the city light up – it’s open until 8 pm on weekdays and 9 pm on weekends.
  Helpful Tip:
Seattle, especially in the city center, isn’t ideal when it comes to traveling in a campervan. Parking is a nightmare and driving up hills in rain and traffic can be super stressful. I’d suggest finding a hostel or hotel for the time that you’re there and to park your car in overnight parking. We found a great garage on 3rd Street for just over $50 for 2 nights.
Day 5 – Seattle
Like Portland, Seattle has become known as the “mecca of coffee” offering perfectly brewed coffee on almost every street.
Start your morning off on Cherry Street with a freshly baked pastry and a cup of coffee from Cherry Street Coffee House before strolling down to the waterfront. Take in views across Elliott Bay to the Olympic Mountains as you head towards iconic Pike Place Market.
Undoubtedly one of Seattle’s most-visited attractions, Pike Place Market is home to delicious seafood, fresh produce, and crafty stores. But watch out – don’t get in the way of the guys behind the seafood counters and their killer fish-throwing skills.
Every couple of minutes you’ll see fish casually flying through the air as they pass it jokingly between each other.
A quick 15-minute walk away, visit the must-see Olympic Sculpture Park. See impressive works from top contemporary artists with the Space Needle and the Olympic Mountains as your backdrop. And the best part – the park is free!
Would you take a look at all that snow?!
Day 6 – Seattle to Spokane
Via I-90 E – Approximately 6-Hour Drive
Rise and shine – today’s the day you head towards the Montana mountains!
While Google Maps may make the route from Seattle to Glacier National Park look doable in a single day, the snowy conditions of winter definitely throw a curveball. Start your day early with a pit stop at a grocery store on the outskirts of Seattle to stock up on essentials before heading towards Spokane for the night.
Take it slow on the roads and watch as your surroundings change. The snow gets thicker and the temperatures quickly start to drop as you get closer to Montana – Big Sky Country.
Once you reach Spokane, choose from a few campgrounds for the night and cozy up for a night’s rest before the final adventure to Glacier.
Day 7 – Spokane to Glacier National Park
Via I-90 E – Approximately 7-Hour Drive
Put on those woolly socks and light up the gas stove, a cup of coffee will be essential to knock off the chill and kickstart your day.
Get on the road early as the drive towards Glacier isn’t incredibly far but expect the icy roads of the pass and potentially snowy conditions to delay your trip by at least 2 hours.
Enjoy a leisurely drive through dramatic landscapes with towering mountains and frozen lakes passing by. The roads start to quieten down quite a lot, so make sure you’ve filled up with gas, have something packed for lunch, and are stocked up on food for your time in the park.
After a good couple of hours on the road you’ll finally reach Glacier National Park and boy, is every mile worth it!
Only a few roads are maintained over winter and the only area to stay in is at the Apgar Campground, so be prepared for maximum peace and quiet. Pick your spot amongst the snow overlooking the McDonald Lake and take in scenes that few people ever get to witness in their lifetime:
Deer wandering past, snow gently falling to the ground, and views for miles.
  Helpful Tip:
Staying at the campground during winter is free and the Apgar Visitor Center is still operational and can help with any questions. There’s also a little souvenir shop that has a couple of snacks and serves hot drinks in case you run out.
Day 8 – Glacier National Park
Wake up cuddled under your duvet surrounded by complete beauty and tons of animal tracks! Start the day as slow as you like but coffee and warm breakfast comes highly recommended.
Glacier National Park over winter really is a place of serenity. With only a few hiking paths open and not much else to do, throw on your (waterproof) hiking boots and hit a path to enjoy the views and wildlife. This is truly the ultimate adventure if you’re wanting to immerse yourself in nature and avoid any crowds.
The rest of your time? Drink plenty of tea, catch up on some reading, do a little journaling, and enjoy the wonderland around you.
A Local’s Guide to Glacier National Park
If you’re thinking about heading to Glacier, you’re in for a treat. There’s a reason there were more than three million visitors there last year!

Final Thoughts
Don’t be scared of seasons, you may just end up on the best adventure of your life.
Leading up to our trip, there were many occasions where I thought we were downright crazy to want to road trip in a campervan during winter. Yes, it can get a little crowded and yes, it was tough braving the cold especially when we hit Glacier and wanted to make a cup of tea.
But would we do it all over again? A thousand times, yes.
Our trip extended all the way down to Yellowstone, Zion, Vegas, and back up the coast to San Francisco – an epic journey that I’d recommend to anyone and everyone.
What are you waiting for? Pack those bags, rent that campervan, and get exploring.
