Me: oh wow I've finally finished that fic, now I can start this new one I've been wanting to read for the past three days
My brain: But what if you reread the entirety of 'lift a sail' again
Me: No, I have all this fics open, I can't reread it again, I'll just wait for the next chapter
Brain: But what about that cute Mando and Yodito fanart?
Me: Still no, I'm reading Pride & Prejudice fanfic, it's Star Wars' polar opposite.
Brain: But what about the Djarwren moments? What about Sabine and Yodito bonding? WHAT ABOUT MAND'ALOR DIN DJARIN??
Me: OK FINE, I'll read it again
Brain: In one sitting, k?
Me: Porc-
(yes that's the start of blasphemy and yes, I'm rereading lift a sail again ahahahahah. Ah.)
Would I be helping if I told you Lift a Sail is basically, kinda, sorta, (gotta squint a bit) a Pride & Prejudice Djarwren AU (in space, of course)? 😜

tagged by darlings @deedala and @darlingian for this delightful weekly tag game ✨ let's get introspective on a thursday morn'
Name: mel
Location: nyc bb
Astrological Sign: aquarius ♒
What's a TV show or movie you plan to re-watch this year? it's only a matter of time before the bbc pride and prejudice miniseries shows back up on my screen tbh and i am always down for a downton abbey rewatch! also @lizisodd has inspired a probable OC rewatch soon
Whats a book or fic you will probably re-read this year? brideshead revisited is basically a quarterly reread at this point. i also want to reread some of my nonfiction faves and reinvest in my history reading.
What is a song you will likely continue to play on repeat? baby queen's new album and also petey's new album! continuous since like. november, and not an end in sight 🫡
What's a tasty treat you look forward to eating more of this year? any treat will do at this point. i am pretty sure i would commit crimes for a donut right now 🍩✨
What's a time sink that you will continue to sink time into this year? i would like to revisit my time sinks, actually. tumblr, writing, maybe giffing again? i'd like to branch out a bit and try some new things, maybe gif other movies/shows as well and annoy you all further 😇 i feel like it's time to at least try to recommit to the things that make me happy.
Did you pick up any habits in 2023 that you plan to continue? i resumed my long meandering walks this year and i definitely want to keep that up. i love just poking around my neighborhood and saying hi to all the dogs. literally every other habit can stay in 2023 tho tbh
What's your toxic trait? isolating myself so no one thinks i am Bad and Stupid ayyyy
What is a coping mechanism you will continue to indulge in this year? uh. well. hopefully none of the ones i have been practicing lately. we're about to make some serious moves on that. i've been trying to talk more, though, so let's go with that?
Tell me something you like about how you look! oh no. ummm. i had my hair and makeup trial for my wedding last week and i actually quite liked how it turned out. so i guess i like airbrushing lmao i have also been told i have nice shoulders alskdfj
Give me at least three adjectives describing things you like about yourself. hmmm. i am kind and i am sweet, i think. are those the same thing? i am struggling to think of a third thing that isn't also a toxic trait lmao UMM. i have been funny? sometimes i am funny?
whew! getting real here at 11:03 AM! i am not sure who has been tagged or completed this already - but it's been ages since i have gone all in on a tag game so please accept this wave hello and a kiss blown right to your foreheads: @gallawitchxx @heymrspatel @howlinchickhowl @whatthebodygraspsnot @metalheadmickey @whatwouldmickeydo @heymacy @crossmydna @palepinkgoat @rereadanon @sickness-health-all-that-shit @too-schoolforcool @xninetiestrendx @mmmichyyy @thisdivorce @energievie and anyone else that wants to do a lil reflectin and lookin ahead 🥰 ily

I loved reading Her Spell That Binds Me, such a beautiful novel! I was curious to know what your writing process is like? Do you create vision boards with literary references or other things that inspire you? Do you have any rituals/routines you like to do before, during or after writing? Are there particular spaces you like to write, in your home or in public?
I'm also curious to know, what your favourite books are? Or the books you have re-read the most in your lifetime.
Hi!
I’m so glad you enjoyed my book! Here are my answers to your questions:
Writing Process ✍🏽
I love a good outline. I like to have the whole story mapped out in front of me, going beat by beat and filling in the gaps more and more as I get new ideas.
Then when I start the book, I use the outline as a jumping off point so I have room to forge my own path while still having a general sense of direction. I try to write at least once a day, even if it’s only a few sentences.
I also take notes, notes, and more notes. Random words I like, names, phrases, ideas for spells, a character’s thoughts, or a plot point I want to consider later. Literally anything that pops into my head throughout the day that I don’t want to forget.
My Inspirations 🎶
My biggest inspirations are movies, TV, and music, as well as books. I make a playlist of songs for every book I write. Some songs are more the vibe of the book while others are associated with specific scenes. I posted the playlists on Spotify!
I’ll also have a list of movies that I put on in the background while I write. Idk if that’s a writing process thing or an ADHD thing, might be a bit of both 🤣
For Her Spell That Binds Me, it was Pride and Prejudice (2005), Bridgerton, Dickinson, War and Peace (2016), Emma., and The Witch.
I’m currently writing Her Spell #2, and I’ve been rewatching Suspiria (2018) on a loop. I can’t stop watching it, it’s a problem. 🙃
Vision Boards 📸
I use Pinterest a bit but more so for social media stuff, like pictures and ideas for posts. Sometimes I’ll find a painting or picture that really speaks to me for a certain scene or character and I’ll save it in a folder for later. John William Waterhouse was a big inspiration for Her Spell #1.
I also cast the characters in the books with actors and made a grid with pictures and referred to it when I wrote character descriptions. Not every character has an actor associated with them but many of them do. Maybe at some point I’ll post about that but not for a while. People should imagine the characters for themselves first, I think.
Rituals/Routines 🕯️
I like to light candles and feel cosy when I write, with my cat sleeping next to me. I prefer writing at home so I have a controlled environment without as many distractions. I wrote Her Spell #1 during an unexpected period of unemployment so I knocked it out fairly quickly. Now I work full time again so I’ll write during my lunch breaks, after work, on weekends, whenever I can.
My favorite books are:
- The Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead - Incredibly underrated, I reread the series at least once a year.
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - I would die for Charlie! I highly recommend watching Perks with the director/actor commentary. Stephen directed the movie as well.
- Tryst Six Venom by Penelope Douglas - This book changed my brain chemistry 😳
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Loooove, the main character is so complex and the love story is bittersweet. The twist was great as well.
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - It’s a perfect book and so comforting. I love the 90s movie adaptation the best.
Thank you so much for your questions!
Sincerely,
Luna ❤️

Alrighttt am close to finishing Pride & Prejudice, about 60ish pages left (am a slow reader okay and I got distracted with Manacled while reading)
Some more thoughts and a lot of yapping (and spoilers? I guess?) I've had in during my recent reads:
First of all, having watched the P&P 2005 movie first and then starting to read the book, I can't help but keep going "Oh this is different!" At some parts akdksk
I love love love the small hints in the book of Mr Darcy liking Elizabeth more and more that is visible in the book. Imma have to rewatch the movie to see how (if) they did that there, but I don't remember noticing it as visibly. In the movie, it felt a bit of a "ah so that's a thing now" while in the book, I noticed some more emphasis/mention of Darcy noticing her more and more, conversing with her, wanting to talk with her and meet her.
I died at the Rosings part when she told him of her daily walk route, assuming he'd want to avoid seeing her, but my man probably went "sweet!" And just came to see her ever since (not to mention, he might've assumed her telling him of her route was a subtle way of inviting him to come see her? Idk my man was down bad he probably took that bit of info and ran with it akfkskkw)
The little things like him moving his chair closer to her- I pretty much died.
Him wondering at whether she'd mind living at a long distance from her family- my man was practically already wondering at if they were wed, meanwhile Elizabeth is confused why he's talking to her akfkskfk
It just feels much more ahh developed? Or hinted at enough to make his feelings to her not come out of nowhere lol
And of course lets talk about the confession scene!! I combusted
I admit that I loved how they did it in the movie; I LOVED the setting (that location and that weather!! Ugh!) and the energy and the tension. Loved every bit. Not to mention how much I liked the actors and how they played the characters!
And yet, I absoloutly went nuts over how Austen did it in the book!! The tension and anger and energy all there, but it just felt more raw and visceral?? Idk how to put it. I just died and came back and died again reading and rereading that scene omg
It's getting to see the narrator mention Darcy taking her silence or lack of negative reply as encouragement to continue with his confession.
It's the earlier back and forths and their witty exchanges, which resulted in him believing them to be on the same page. Hence, the conversation about living at a far distance from her family, I take it he assumed she noticed his intention and he thought he was being rather too direct, which is why his mood changed and he pulled his chair back when he caught himself.
But ironically enough, him thinking they were on the same page and that he was being transparent with her, that she was able to see through him, all just goes to show on how different of a page they were.
It's honestly brilliant.
And that just makes the confession scene work so much better, at least for me.
Getting such a clear view of how he must have feelings for her, and how clear he thought he has been about them, and how he thinks she picked up on it, makes his confession and the tension of that scene work so well, because he really thought they were on the same page. He really expected it to go one way because of those assumptions he'd had.
And then it went so differently, and so horribly at that, that I can't help but claw at my wall aaaaaa it's so good
No wonder he got pale with rage lmao
Ohoh and when Elizabeth went "You are mistaken, Mr Darcy, if you suppose that the mode of your decleration affected me in any other way, than as it spared me the concern which I might have felt in refusing you had you behaved in a more gentleman-like manner." And saw him start at this I DIED she went for the throat and honestly fuck yeah he needed that slap off the high horse
Even as am writing this I reread the scene for what could only be the tenth time already it's just so good aaaahhhh
(Also, I definitely understand that they probably changed the scene a bit in the movie for the sake of making it look more intresting, at least location wise; the outdoor setting and the spot it all takes place in is definitely a more visually intresting scenery to look at than a closed indoor room, and I think it does make the change of the scene work well in the movie! I still love the book version more but I totally see why and love the change was made in the movie adaptation)
Okay another point about the confession scene is how much I loved the irony in Darcy saying it must be because of how he worded his confession, in a way that slighted Elizabeth's pride because of how he mentioned her relations, that she's rejecting him, and yet he had framed his whole declaration on how it was against his better judgement that he came to like her, how he pointed it out the inferiority of her comings and family (and thereby, painting himself superior). That he's pointing out he must've hurt her pride when his whole talk stemmed from his own pride is such irony I love it
And bruh homeboi really expected her to go "whoa am so thankful you came to love me still!" ???? My man really thought she'd be flustered at him insulting her family and telling her he loves her in the same breath and he still had the audacity to pickachu-surprise-face at her own anger at his words akfksd
Okay enough of that scene, I still have a few kore things to talk about akfkjw
Next up is just how much Letters play a role in the story and even in the characters. Idk this is just a brainvomit of some of the notes I'd taken while reading, but the jest of it is the recurrence of characters sending letters as a narrative tool and, oftentimes, a way to paint certain aspects of the characters.
Elizabeth and Jane, while away from each other, both exhange letters regularly, and their correspondence is neat? I think is the word; they take the time to sit down and write to each other. When they recieve a letter, they also take the time to sit down and read it. Like when Elizabeth receives Jane's letter with the news of Lydia and Wickham, just as she and her uncle and aunt were about to leave to go on a walk, it is mentioned that instead her uncle and aunt set off to let her enjoy the letter at her own time. Just the use of the word enjoy speaks volumes to me at how Elizabeth regards these correspondences; a genuine sort of happiness and joy, and hence she likes to take the proper time to read them, and also the time to write them.
So when it says that Jane's first letter got missent somewhere due to her writing the adress remarkably ill, it's hard not to feel a shift or to know something bad must've happened. Because with how much care she usually puts into her letters, something must've caused her haste in writing the adress of that letter, so badly it was sent elswhere.
This broke a formula we kinda grew used to in those correspondences between Elizabeth and Jane, and managed to set a feeling of dread by simply taking something of that status quo and changing it. I just love it so much ugh
Darcy's letter(s) I feel like fall under a similar light; he obviously put a lot of care and time and thought into them. Gave them the time and length needed, given the importance of the content. They were very thorough and expansive, and touched on the important topics and discussed them sufficiently (lmao I feel like am giving him a critique analysis).
It shows enough of his character methinks.
Mr Collins letters, much like he himself is in person, often focus on the flattery. Of others (especially Lady Catherine) and of himself (cuz ironically, by how often he breaks his back complimenting others, he always traces it back to himself, to how he thinks of it, to how grateful he is of it, to how deserving he thinks it is, to how thoughtful he is with it). In person, it was hard to miss how much he cared for the rooms and their furniture and interior, and I chugged it to it symbolising how shallow he is and how much he cares about appearances, whether in the literal sense of the word or more like the esteem and regard others have of him. In his letters, he focuses so much on appearing thoughtful and grateful and thankful and concerned where needed, in a way you feel he's simply doing it in a "but no one could dislike me! I've been nothing but nice and thoughtful etc" way, you feel? Again, by focusing so much on such pleasantries, he seems only focused on coming across positively.
Also, all in all, he's the epitome of "talks a lot but says very little."
Lydia's letters are more or less hasty and careless; it's obvious she doesn't set aside any special time to write them (like her letters to her mom while she was away at Brighton including things like "oh Mrs Froster is calling me so I must haste" or something along the lines) and, much like her own conversations and interests, seem scattered and childish (which, yeah, she is a child. But you get the idea. She comes across as silly, wild and reckless, while also being somewhat shallow)
I just think it's a very neat way to show the personalities of the characters further using the letters as a tool.
Ahhh I think that's mostly it for now!! So many thoughts cuz am loving every bit of this akfksk

Rules: answer and tag 9 people you want to get to know better and/or catch up with!
⟡ favorite color(s)?
red and black mostly. but purple is also nice.
⟡ last song?
Omoinotake - Moratorium (Twittering Birds Never Fly ED)
⟡ last movie?
Rewatched Saint Young Men around easter lol
⟡ currently reading?
A Guardian fanfic! Been in a bit of a fanfic reading slump so now I'm trying to stick with fics for a bit before getting into books again. Not sure if I'll reread Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice next. Or finally continue with the German translation of MDZS.
⟡ currently watching?
Started rewatching Natsume Yuujinchou, a bit of Detective Conan, the new season of Kuroshitsuji. Also Star Trek and rewatch of Guardian, but gotta coordinate those with my house mates. Not enough time in the day to watch so much after coming home from work (also ST:TOS kinda sucks in my opinion?? I'm not done with the first season yet but the writing is atrocious in some episodes - if it weren't for wanting to see S2 Ep1 I would prob not keep watching lmao)
⟡ currently craving?
a good rice dish because my fried rice for dinner yesterday was not good... :( it turned out to sticky and mushy and I couldn't fix it. probably too much water and starch? I was so disappointed... my fried rice used to be better ;w;
⟡ coffee or tea?
currently drinking fennel-anise-caraway tea! but I like both. but not black coffee and black tea. I only drink coffee for the taste but it has to be milk coffee and preferably a light roast or vietnamese coffee!

its that time of year thats exciting exclusively for me. fanfic spreadsheet wrapped 2023.
this year i read 9,020,674 words :O thats over a million more than last year lol (7,815,414). i read 1172 fics total, which was less than last year (1325). so i suppose overall i was reading longer fics.
top ten fandoms
teen wolf - 405
fall out boy - 202
the untamed - 81
stargate atlantis - 53
the witcher - 50
the sandman - 48
x-men - 47
merlin - 46
ted lasso - 20
les miserables & atla & pride and prejudice all had 17 each lol
top ten pairings
derek hale/stiles stilinski - 389
patrick stump/pete wentz - 193
rodney mckay/john sheppard - 50
erik lehnsherr/charles xavier - 46
merlin/arthur pendragon - 45
geralt of rivia/jaskier - 44
dream/hob gadling - 43
lan xichen/jin guangyao/nie mingjue - 36
enjolras/grantaire, elizabeth bennet/fitzwilliam darcy, sokka/zuko - 17 each
aziraphale/crowley - 15
break down into months
january
top fandom was the sandman, top pairing was dream/hob. makes total sense because i was still clinging on from 2022.
top fic - And Not Ask Leave of Any - dream/hob 15th century faeries au. i have no recollection of this but january me loved it.
february & march
top fandom was the untamed, top pairing was lan xichen/jin guangyao/nie mingjue. i had been rewatching the untamed and was going insane despite not even getting to the best bits for that ot3 lol
Feb top fic - Some others I've seen - steddyhands established relationship - ed and izzy have a tavern and stede visits. again i have no recollection of this and i think its mostly sex
March top fic - An Elegant Solution - nie mingjue/wei wuxian/lan wangji. by far one of my favourite fics EVER and this was a reread and it still hurt me just as good as the first time. arranged marriage fic that fixes so many problems and weirdly the thing that hurts me most wasnt even the main pairing it was the nie minjue/lan xichen/jin guangyao. never has a fic made me pivot from hating to liking a character so effectively
crazy that neither of my fav fics were from my top read pairings lol
april
top fandom was x-men and top pairing was cherik.
my mum died in late march and i lost my MIND and could exclusively watch media i enjoyed between the ages of 12 and 14 and xmfc was The movie when i was that age
top fic - Weekend at Casterly - jaime lannister/brienne of tarth regency au. sorry i will always come back to these two altho ill admit this was rogue and came out of no where
may & june
top fandom was teen wolf, sterek
may top fic - Yes is a World - sterek. derek rejects stiles and then they get together after a few years and have to reassert boundaries. didnt finish where most fics finish and i enjoyed that extra insight into what happens after the get together
june top fic - it’s a long way forward (so trust in me) - geraskier. reread. geralt is an omega who wants too much. soooo embarassing to put omegaverse on here which i usually avoid but this fic is soooo good their dynamic is perfect
july
top fandom was the witcher, geraskier
THEY MADE THAT BARD BISEXUAL
Jinx Removing - sterek. this is saved as dr pepper fic on the spreadsheet which means nothing. another case of derek waiting for stiles and planning for them to be good for each other
bit funny that last month sterek was my top pairing but my fav fic was geraskier and now its swapped for july
august & september
top fandom was merlin, and merthur
august - Once & Future - geraskier, warlord au where geralt is a statue awoken by jaskiers kiss. really beautifully written
september - the devil's in the details - merthur. arthur lists the ban on magic and thinks merlin just learnt really really fast
i left a specific note for myself in september to lmk i was really into reece shearsmith but he simply has no fic. thanks past me
october
top fandom was sherlock, but the pairing was enjolras/grantaire. i simply have no idea how this happened
Epiphanies - enjolras/grantaire. modern au where they do a christmas reunion and enjolras isnt doing too well. i found this too relatable thumbs up emoji
november & december
ah. well this was the time of fall out boy and peterick. what a way to end the year
nov - Schrodingerverse - covid verse that was written during covid and the series that got me back into peterick. guilty pleasure fic for me
dec - time is luck - there was like 3 good fics this month it was very very hard to choose between. but this ons is the ultimate dynamic that im seeking from modern peterick fic where pete is entirely dedicated to patrick and completely accepting of their friendship and not wanting anymore. But What if He Could Have More???
in summary. when your mum dies make sure you read like a shit ton of sterek fic for 2 months in a tiny box room in a village itll be so good for you. and then go to see your favourite band from when you were 14 live and get back into rpf while trying to start 2 new jobs.
seriously though how did i read 405 teen wolf fics in like 2.5 months and then just never touch sterek again. i didnt even finish teen wolf

I was tagged by @lovesodeepandwideandwell (thank youuuuu so much for tagging me—-I love tag games like this!!!)
Last Song I Listened To: Jump then Fall, Taylor Swift
My Fearless (Taylor’s version) bonus track cd has been on shuffle in my car. Also this is why I never want to buy a new car cause they won’t have a cd player. Also this reminds me, I still need to buy Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on cd.
Currently Watching: The Summer I Turned Pretty with @thelonelybrilliance (only on episode 3 but having a great time so far, the commentary has been dynamite, the ocean and Jeremiah are both soooo pretty), Larkrise to Candleford with my mom (just finished season 1! I love this show), reruns of the Office with Nina (I first watched it with her my freshman year of college so it’s so nostalgic for that), and also at this exact moment in time I am a little over halfway through a very critical rewatch of the 2005/Joe Wright version of Pride and Prejudice. I want to get back to watching Lockwood and co. but Nina betrayed me by finishing it without me and I’m a little too scared to watch it alone. One of these days I will binge it though.
Currently Reading: Life with Jeeves (P.G. Wodehouse) and it is reminding me, as it always does, how much I love Wodehouse. It’s the easiest reading in the world for me and just fills me back up. Next on my list are a reread of Northanger Abbey and The Shadow of the Bear. And then I start SCHOOL SO SOON. And then it will be Beowulf and poetry and all the classics and ahhhhh. I’m so excited!!
Current Obsession: Well, it’s about to be #jelly from the summer I turned pretty but I’m still on brink of the actual love story because we’re not super far in yet, I’m still on the shore if you will lol, so I will say, again, at this exact moment, that it’s my rewatch of the 2005 P&P. Idk, there’s just something about it this time where I feel like I’m able to articulate things in a way that rings true for me and to just …. be more nuanced and honest and unafraid and, as I said the other day, unemotional in a good way. And I’m just, I’m obsessed with that feeling and that feeling that comes from having, like, a secret little project that’s just mine that involves analysis and close reading and just figuring stuff out I haven’t been able to for years but is also something that I do alone and at night—!!!! (I know that’s a weird answer but it’s true.)
I tag: @thelonelybrilliance @illbeoutofthewoods @byjoveimbeinghumble @freenarnian @thisisctrying @merinathropp and anyone else who wants to do it!

9 People You Want to Get to Know Better (Round 2)
Thank you to the folks who tagged me! Sorry I'm just getting around to it now.
What song comes on and ALWAYS makes you think “Yes! That’s my jam!”:
So. Many. Choices. But I'll go old school and pick "Love Shack" by the B-52s
If you could only reread one book/series forever what would it be?
This is a tough one; "Persuasion" just beats out "I Capture the Castle"
If you could only rewatch one show forever what would it be?
Also a tough call; either The Wire or the 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries
Currently coping with AO3 being down?
Very glad it's up and running again, thank you volunteers!
Tagging anyone who wants to play if you haven’t already. 😊

3, 6, 11, 12! For the book asks :)
hi!! <333
3. What were your top five books of the year?
Ok, in order of when I read them during the year
Excellent Women - Barbara Pym
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen (The adaptations - the 2005 film especially but also `the 1995 miniseries - have been a comfort rewatch for years so it's fun to go back and reread the original and see which details do/don't get included)
The Shortest Way to Hades - Sarah Caudwell (This is #2 of a 4 book mystery series, I read all of them this year but this is my favorite)
We Have Always Lived in the Castle - Shirley Jackson
Corrupting Dr. Nice - John Kessel (I recommended this to my cousin only after she watches The Lady Eve since it's the plot of The Lady Eve but with time travel, which I found totally delightful but I have no idea how it stands on its own)
6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
I keep lapsing my hold on Chip War in Libby lol. I also had a fun idea to read all 6 of Shirley Jackson's books, but i just managed 3 this year
11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
Pride and Prejudice was the oldest book I read this year, but I've been keeping an eye out for Corrupting Dr. Nice since last year and I found it serendipitously during my local used bookstore's sale so they both count for this
12. Any books that disappointed you?
I tried to reinforce my DNF policy more strictly this year, so of the books I dropped I was particularly sad about Crosstalk by Connie Willis because I've always loved To Say Nothing of the Dog and wanted to try something else of her's that was lighter in tone than the others in that series. Crosstalk on paper sounded great (a screwball time travel comedy again) but in execution it was extremely rough (boomereque ~social media these days~ with 1940s characterizations that make no damn sense now). If someone has read it and lets me know it redeems itself I'll try again but as it stands, big oof
I mainly read mysteries/thrillers this year, so of the books I read to the finish line, Death in Fancy Dress and The Midnight Feast were pretty mediocre imo

• favorite author: Jane Austen
• favorite book series: Nancy Drew (but if you want an answer that’s more of an actual contained series i’d have to say Throne of Glass by Sara J. Maas)
• comfort book: The Complete Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem
• the perfect book to read on a rainy day: We We’re Liars by E. Lockhart, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, or Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
• favorite book characters: Anne Shirley, Elizabeth Bennet, Fitzwilliam Darcy, and Nancy Drew
• five quotes from your favorite book(s) that you know by heart:
- “That fool of a fairy Lucinda did not intend to lay a curse on me. She meant to bestow a gift. When I cried inconsolably through my first hour of life, my tears were her inspiration. Shaking her head sympathetically at Mother, the fairy touched my nose. ‘My gift is obedience. Ella will always be obedient. Now stop crying, child.’ I stopped.” Ella Enchanted
- “In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” Pride and Prejudice
- “You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.” Pride and Prejudice
- “He loved me. He'd loved me as long as he he'd known me! I hadn't loved him as long perhaps, but now I loved him equally well, or better. I loved his laugh, his handwriting, his steady gaze, his honorableness, his freckles, his appreciation of my jokes, his hands, his determination that I should know the worst of him. And, most of all, shameful though it might be, I loved his love for me.” Ella Enchanted
- “There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” Pride and Prejudice
hardcover or paperback | buy or rent | standalone novels or book series | ebook or physical copy | reading at night or during the day | reading at home or in the nature | listening to music while reading or reading in silence | reading in order or reading the ending first | reliable or unreliable narrator | realism or fantasy | one or multiple POVS | judging by the covers or by the summary | rereading or reading just once

date finished: march 10, 2022
WARNING: under the cut, there will be spoilers for pride and prejudice, so read/listen/etc. first and then come join me here if you want to avoid them!
(all my ratings are out of 5 stars)
plot rating: ★★★★ character rating: ★★★★ pacing rating: ★★★ style rating: ★★ “je ne sais quoi” rating: ★★★★★ overall rating: ★★★⅗
favorite moments so far: the fact that after mr. gardiner finds lydia and mr. wickham, it’s implied that he *ahem* persuaded mr. wickham into accepting a less than favorable dowry after being a complete dummy; those few days between lydia’s reappearance and darcy’s proposal where darcy and bingley kinda just hang around longbourn like “hey... it’s been a minute but i still love you;” when mrs. bennet calls jane mrs. bingley and elizabeth mrs. darcy!!!!!!!! favorite character(s) so far: elizabeth bennet, fitzwilliam darcy, mrs. gardiner least favorite character(s) so far: mrs. bennet, lady catherine de bourgh, george wickham
general thoughts: i’m always a sucker for several things, two of which are enemies to lovers and a tidy ending to the misunderstanding trope. this book delivers both so well. i love how in this final part of the book, we see this lovestruck side of many characters and what it does to different people. for lydia, it was running away to elope. elizabeth starts to doubt herself which is such a complete 180 from where we were before this. darcy thinks of others before himself. jane is even happier. i love when we get “naturally occurring,” so to speak, character studies that compare and contrast how different people react to the same situation. i remember when i read pride and prejudice the first time and was mostly confused by the whole lydia-wickham thing but also semi supportive? like why shouldn’t she be able to elope with someone she loves? i should note that lydia was the same age as me at the time. all that to say that it’s interesting to have these different lenses to look through when reading. because now i’m mostly just angry that wickham took advantage of not one, but two much younger girls and because he’s a man he gets nothing more than a slap on the wrist and his debts paid off. mr. bennet even goes so far as to say he’s his favorite son-in-law because he’s appropriately subordinate, a character who has thus far been a voice of reason and levelheadedness. ugh, men! also, did anyone else not catch bingley’s and darcy’s proposals the first time around? i had to reread both sections where it was implied(?) rather than stated that jane and elizabeth were engaged, which was so weird to me considering the two quite lengthy previous proposals. it was more so later that both jane and lizzy announced to each other they were engaged that i got it. did i miss some victorian code word for engagement? anyway... i love the little moment at the end where elizabeth is teasing darcy about falling in love with her. i think it’s very on-brand for them because it devolves into this kinda serious conversation about the many, many, many misunderstandings that paved the way to their current situation. plus, i just love when plots get wrapped up nicely with a little bow, especially if there’s no sequel or follow up, so that alone gets the book brownie points from me. i very much enjoyed getting to read pride and prejudice from a more grown-up point of view to add onto my (limited) understanding of the first read. am i gonna rewatch the movie again? yeah, probably. until next time!

In the last 2-3 weeks, I reread Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice (well it was an audiobook but who cares) and watched everything I saw online.
At first I rewatched the movie with Keira Knightley from 2005, which was the reason I started reading Jane Austin books and till this day I'm very happy and Pride and Prejudice will always be my most beloved book.
But I never cared bout other movies or tv shows.
After finishing the movie from 2005, I watched the YouTube vlog ”The Lizzy Bennet Diries” and what a joyful thing that ”little” vlog like adaptation is! I'm still contemplating about buying the DVD. (might a well spoil myself for my upcoming birthday)
After that I only had to watch the 1995 Colin Firth version and it came via mail today and I started watching it right away.
My opinion is as follows. I guess nothing will ever compare to reading the book, I even think it's different to let it be read to you. But that's something for another post.
If you want a feel good movie for a ”short” time and with big changes and not as many characters as the book go watch the Keira Knightly version. I still think that Matthew Macfadyen is and will always be my favorite Mr. Darcy (guess bc he was my first Darcy) and the movie has so many great little things to offer, the ending!! The music, dear Odin I love the piano, tho some might think it's a bit repetitive. But still, if I need a sweet little short trip to P&P land I will watch that movie and feel happy again.
Tumblr media
The Colin Firth Version from 1995 is from the book to movie transaction the most satisfying. Tho I just watched it one time I am willing to sit down and watch the 3 piece tv show again and again as it grew on me quick. The little downside is that the DVD I bought just came with the German version and I can't watch it in English, but that's not the problem of the show. I really liked how they portrait the whole family as well as the rest of the ppl from the book, especially the character development in Darcy and Elizabeth is the most satisfying in this version.
Tumblr media
The vlog diaries! I was so hooked on it that I watched till 2am on a Sunday night and that has to say something as I am normally very good at keeping my sleep schedule on time for work. Putting the story into the time from today. (if I remember correctly it was released in 2013) I admire the work that went into it and the whole process of keeping just Lizzies point of view. Tho you can in some later videos switch to Charlotte, Lydia and Gigi which is a good way to see a different version of the ppl Lizzie is describing or experiencing in her view. I also love the fact they made Bingley to Bing Lee and Fitzwilliam black. The modern take on ”wedding” and or partnership is something I highly enjoyed as well. Also the character development Lizzie is going through is worth to watch a well. Tho many characters are missing if we simply want a book to video diary version. But in my mind it would have destroyed the modern take as families and somesuch aren't what it was back then and they did a great job on who to keep and how. Mostly I'm speaking of Mary. Kitty being reduced to an actual kitten was funny and somehow logically explained by simply putting it as the kitten followed Lydia every step.
Tumblr media
I think I rambled way to much now. Sorry not sorry.

Thank you for the tag, @galadrieljones :)
RULES: Always post the rules. Answer the questions asked, then write 11 new ones. Tag 11 people to answer your questions, as well as the person who tagged you
I’m ignoring the rules, as Galadriel basically covered everyone I would have tagged.
1) Who is your favorite author? Why? Jane Austen. I really got in to reading with Pride and Prejudice when I was 14. She has just always stuck with me. She is my go to when I need my brain to just chill. I like to reread my favorite of her works every few years to see how my interpretations have changed over the years.
2) Who are your three favorite DA characters? Solas, Cole, Cullen (Cullen is a new discovery. I’ve had like several dreams about him. I also didn’t know that he could end up a lyrium addict dying in the streets until a few days ago and it killed me and I just want him to be happy)
3) List three songs that you would recommend. Wanderlust by Frank Turner Light As A Feather by Norah Jones The Pharoahs by Neko Case (I listened to it 4 times today)
4) What is the best gift you have ever received? Tickets to see Fleetwood Mac live for my birthday last year.
5) Do you have any vices? If so, what are they? I can be really negative and I complain too much. I’m also laaaazy.
6) If you could live in any city in the world, which would it be, and why?
This is hard, because I haven’t traveled that much. I always joke to my bf that I’m running away to San Diego and I’m taking him with me. I really just want to live by the ocean.
7) Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?
I always say I don’t, but like the first time I saw my boyfriend, sitting alone in the high school gym bleachers, I just got this feeling like I had to know him. And here we are now. I don’t know, I guess I just believe in the universe and its weirdness.
8) What was the video game that made you fall in love with video games? My brother got me into video games and the one that really hooked me was Dark Alliance, i think it was a Dungeon and Dragons game or something. It was so fun and it had a multiplayer mode! I miss that!
9) If you could go back and rewatch any TV show for the first time all over again, which would it be? The Office. I want to go back in time to 16 year old me discovering my sense of humor.
10) Do you have a role model? If so, who is it? My dad. He is a saint. He is so good and it makes me cry.
11) How do you unwind after a long, stressful day? So, the last few months have been extremely stressful and I haven’t been unwinding. I basically just shut down the second I get home. Work clothes come off and either I scroll through tumblr and pinterest for hours or I watch netfilx. I have been on an X Files kick this week. I’m working on better coping mechanisms lol
