Starting a filename with the release date can help, if you format it like a programmer, which is YYYY-MM-DD.

So March 25th 2025, for example, would be 2025-03-25. If you name a group of files with dates at the start in that format, they'll show up in order of release.

I've got in the habit of doing that for some of the videos I save, putting the upload date before the video title so they show up in order. I also do this in some of my music folders for album release dates.

Sometimes I do just throw stuff into a folder and then when the folder gets too much stuff in it to find what I'm looking for, I make more folders for more specific subcategories. So maybe I start with just a general folder for a YouTuber's videos, then later decide there are too many videos here and I need subfolders to separate the Sonic videos, the Mario videos, the Final Fantasy videos, etc.

File and folder shortcuts can also help, if you've got files that you want in two different folders. Right Click - Copy - Right Click - Paste as Shortcut. So if you've got like a crossover fan video or something, you can save it in one fandom's folder, and paste a shortcut in the other fandom's folder. It will appear in both places, without taking up twice as much space on your hard drive, since the shortcut is just a tiny file that points the system to where the full size file is saved.

In general just start with a folder for stuff you want to save and then later you can decide if you want to reorganize in different ways that help you find what you need when you're looking for it. I've got one folder named "2017 to sort" and you can guess how long it's been there, unorganized, but at least the files are saved for whenever I do want to access or organize them.

I've been a voracious archivist/data hoarder ever since I first got access to a computer, and it's paid off more times than I can count. Just the other day I came across a PDF copy of an analysis post for one of my fandoms. The post was made on an old forum and is the most detailed and interesting analysis of a particular story element I've ever seen. Back in like 2012 I saved the post as a PDF, because even then I saved everything I liked.

Anyway, flash forward to 2025 and I decided to see if the URL included in the document was still live. I wasn't very surprised to see that the forum is long dead. However, even the Wayback Machine had no record of this thread. If I hadn't saved a copy of it way back when, I would have never, ever been able to read this analysis again!

The Internet Archive is sadly not infallible, especially when it comes to things like forum threads. You can do your part by manually saving things to the Wayback Machine, but I also recommend keeping your own archives. Aside from just saving pages as PDFs, I highly recommend a browser extension called SingleFile that lets you archive pages as HTML files.

Aegosexual attraction for me is like: Ooh, he's pretty. Or oh, she's hot. I theoretically want to have sex with this person. ... Oh, wait. ... Actually doing it? Pushing our bodies into each other? Making out and licking each other's tongues? Yeah, no, never mind. I'm fine.

Like, I do experience attraction. It's different than just aesthetic appreciation or recognizing that someone is conventionally attractive. There's a draw toward some people. I have an interest in the concept of sexuality, in the abstract, but the thought of acting on that interest, the thought of myself in a sexual situation, the practical reality of sexuality is squicksome at best and frightening at worst.

And I'm always questioning and re-questioning myself: Am I sure I'm not just a quitter? Am I sure this isn't just because of my childhood traumas? Am I sure I'm not just a damaged brain in need of repair? Am I sure it's not just that I feel unworthy of being loved?

So it gets very confusing is what I'm saying.

Last show: I'm on a constant rewatch for 猎罪图鉴 (Under The Skin) cuz the show is my new obsession. I also watched 问心 (The Heart) recently because I very much enjoy watching Jin Shi Jia clowning around and he is not just sexy as a police captain but also very much as a doctor. Mark Chao was the added bonus on top in that series.

Was discussing the pre-AO3 days of fandom earlier today, mostly in the context of dead archives and creators sending C&D letters to fan sites (funnnn times). And I went to look at my old fanfiction.net stories to see the kind of disclaimers I put on fic, and… I made that in 2005. 2005! It’s 19 years old! Goodness.

I mostly lurked and read in Tolkien fandom back then although I have a couple of stories from ff.net and LJ from 2004/5. I remember it being an intimidating fandom, or it felt like it to me; I remember we were all very worked up over Mary Sues (why? WHY did we care?) and I remember endless discussions about whether slash should be rated higher than het on ff.net’s new rating system (sigh); I remember the citrus scale.

But I also remember it as being such fun, as being the first fandom that took something I had loved since I was a child and said “hey, you can look at it this other way too”. I remember the delight of actually getting to read what other people thought happened on the Helcaraxë. I remember some of the absolute crackfic LiveJournal RP, too. And the people I met then, and the character songlists we swapped.

I hope you’re doing okay out there, fellow early-mid 2000s fandom people! And never assume you’re out for good - I had an 18-year gap in writing Tolkien fics but the elves have pulled me back in once again :)

I’m actually autistic and mentally ill, like “unspecified personality disorder” mentally ill according to my psychiatrist.

with that, I also have a possible(and likely) dissociative disorder, recognized by my psychiatrist and Therapist, I cannot seek help as my family doesn’t believe in dissociative identity disorder and other similar disorders, all help and recognition I’ve gotten for it was behind my parents back (private therapy, a loose diagnosis so my psychiatrist doesn’t have to inform my mom.)

with that, I’m so exhausted with you people hating on mentally ill people for BEING MENTALLY ILL. So many of your school/mass 🔫 are severely mentally ill but you HAPPILY make fun of people with delusions, INCURABLE mental illness, and socially awkward or oversensitive/emotional behavior. You fucks are only okay with people having feelings or issues when it’s fucking violent criminals.

Fucking god forbid a young person try to look for an accepting community despite their issues. The Tcc and Zero Day Community are so full of double standards it’s infuriating.

if you truly feel it’s important for the person to get help, FUCKING OFFER IT OR DONT INTERACT, instead OF POSTING THEIR PROBLEMS TO HUMILIATE THEM.
