Marc LÉPINE, born Gamil Rodrigue LIASS GHARBI, was an Arab and Muslim man.

Born in October 26, 1964, he is a Canadian mass murderer from Montreal, Quebec. On December 6, 1989 (35 years ago tomorrow) , he murdered fourteen (14) women, and wounded another ten (10) women and four (4) men in what is known as the École Polytechnique massacre. It took place at the École Polytechnique de Montréal, an engineering school affiliated with the Université de Montréal.

LÉPINE WAS THE SON of French Canadian nurse Monique Lépine and ALGERIAN (i.e. ARAB & MUSLIM) businessman Rachid Gharbi, WHO WAS ABUSIVE TOWARDS AND CONTEMPTUOUS OF WOMEN.

My Personal Milena Lore

Okay, so we know pretty much ZILCH about Milena in canon. Some things can be inferred (like there clearly being SOME KIND of positive relationship between her and Makarov) and we do know some things in a vague fashion (her husband was murdered), but we know very little that's CONCRETE.

So, under the read-more, please enjoy my ramblings about my special interest favourite character. None of this is canon, remember! Just conjecture.

Okay, so the first thing I have to mention is really to do with Makarov, and that's the fact that there is NO WAY that man was 43 in MWIII. No. Julian does not look a whole year older than my mother, and therefore neither does Vladimir.

So it's my belief that Makarov was born Vladimir Dmitriyevich Makarov on October 4th, 1989. Almost a month before, Milena was born Milena Viktorovna Volkova on September 10th, 1989. This makes both of them 34 at the time wherein MWIII takes place.

She was born to very rich parents - Diana Yuriyevna Volkova and Viktor Mikhailevich Volkov - and grew up in Moscow, just like Makarov.

Upon finishing school with very good grades, Milena decided to attend university. This is where she met one Boris Aleksievich Romanov through mutual friends at a party. The man was rich, with a lot of connections, and the two soon began to date.

Within two years - on October 12th, 2009 - Milena and Boris married and Milena became Milena Viktorovna Romanova. Milena was 20 years old at this time.

Four years later, on Februrary 28th, 2013, Makarov and Milena meet when she comes along with Boris to a meeting.

Boris proves to be decent-ish at first, but becomes a very neglectful husband after Milena turns 25, causing Milena to quickly become incredibly bitter. He spends a lot of his time away from home, leaving his wife to attend to his actual business - which she quickly acclimates to and becomes much better than him at. Whilst her husband is gambling and cheating (which Milena can verify as he uses the same funds he's supposed to give to Makarov and his cause), Milena begins forming a plan to get rid of her shitty, boring husband. In the years between Milena and Makarov's first introduction and when she begins to plan, the two had become good friends. This is where Milena realises that having her husband killed rather than divorcing him will have many benefits - and not just for her.

During one of Boris's 'business trips' (read: gambling sprees), Milena meets with Makarov and exposes all of Boris's recent embezzlement. This both discredits her husband and makes Milena look damn good. Irreplacable, even. Makarov agrees to help her kill Boris, on the condition that Milena formally replaces her husband as a financier to the ultranationalists. Let it never be said that this woman doesn't know how to twist things in her favour.

On June 10th, 2017, during a supposed 'business dinner' between Milena, Boris, and Makarov on Plutus Island, Boris is murdered. Makarov deals with the legal side of things. Work with me here, I don't know how it'd work but it just would.

Milena decides to keep her current name, feeling that she's outgrown the name Milena Volkova at this point. She keeps her wedding ring (which can be seen in the Oligarch mission) as a 'fuck you' to the man who wasted eight years of her life.

Milena is thriving at this point. The personal and business relationship between her and Makarov grows ever more positive.

On April 6th, 2019, Vladimir Makarov is arrested during his terrorist attack on Verdansk. He's sent to Zordaya - this is canon.

During this time, Milena is able to, in Makarov's words 'build an army' - this is, of course, the PMC Konni Group. She works with Ivan Alexxeve and Andrei Nolan for the most part.

She brokers a deal between Las Almas Cartel and Konni Group to get hold of chemical weapons, as seen in (I believe) MWII. This is one of many things that I, sleep-deprived as I am, cannot remember the extent of, but I know are canon.

On November 10th, 2023, Vladimir Makarov is busted out of prison and returns to lead Konni Group.

On the evening of November 12th, 2023, Milena Romanova's island is raided by Task Force 141 in order to gain information on both Makarov's/Konni Group's finances and Makarov's whereabouts. With her security shot dead and her house shot up, Milena gives up Makarov's location.

(Side note: say what you will, but I think this was entirely reasonable of her. Milena's biggest motivation is her money, and she was scared as shit of losing it. But that's not all. As a fellow woman, I cannot begin to imagine the visceral terror I would feel if I were in her situation - alone on an island with nobody to immediately call for help, with two absolutely massive army men who don't exactly wish her well. We, the players, know that Ghost and Soap are protagonists and morally decent enough, but Milena does not. Anything could've happened, and I imagine that scared the shit out of her.)

Now, this is where we reach pure speculation.

We can infer that Makarov and Milena have a positive relationship - in the Praise and Punishment cutscene, Milena is the only one to call him by his given name. Critically, it can be noted that she's the only one in the whole game to be received well by Makarov when she does this. Makarov seems a very tactile man from what we see in this cutscene - most likely as a way to build loyalty - but there is a clear note of mutual respect in this cutscene between the two. She's clearly quite important - she stands pretty much by his side for the remainder of the cutscene.

All of that is to say this: Makarov seems to have dealt with Milena's betrayal in a manner uncommon to him. We see what happens when someone displeases Makarov - he shot Ivan in front of his soldiers to make an example. However, when Makarov speaks to Andrei after torturing one of Shadow Company's men, he mentions that (paraphrasing here) 'if [TF141] can get to Milena, they can get to any of us'.

He's giving her an awful lot of grace. Not cursing her. Not insisting she's hunted down or executed. He's making excuses.

Additionally, the mission after Oligarch (called Highrise) takes place 16 hours after. The cutscene for it takes place some point the night before Highrise begins. This means that Makarov found out about what happened (most likely from Milena herself calling) between 1 and 10 hours after. Remember - Milena was the only one allied with Konni who survived Oligarch. Only she would've known.

I believe that Milena is undoubtably still alive, and if (wishful thinking) we see her in MWIV, she and Makarov may still be allied.

I also believe, very strongly, that there is something between Vladimir Makarov and Milena Romanova. It may be romantic, it may be platonic, but he clearly gives a shit about her in a situation where it'd make a lot more sense for him to write her off as a traitor.

And I find that utterly fascinating.

what do you think Harry’s relationship was with Nadine?

Thanks for the ask and sorry for the delay. Like any girl in the 1D years Nadine Leopold was hated at the time and abused by directioners. I think it was casual and clearly a set up by Jeff who was always around. Even shippers of them only have them together for 3 weeks nearly evenly spread over 9 weeks. There doesn't seem to be bad feeling between them, he performed with her and her friends at the VS show in 2017.

Harry followed her on Twitter on August 21 2014, 1D was on tour and a lot happened before they were seen together which gives context:

1989 and JALBOYH were released and Taylor's RS article where she implied her (new) publicist (Tree) told her dating (H) isn't a good idea came out. The heart eyes AMAs are here too.

Harry raised the Hiatus with 1D at the Band Aid on 15 November and the band was actively falling apart and it was definitely time to prepare for solo Harry.

Then on 19 November Harry and Taylor go to The 1975's concert together and then Taylor sees them again without Harry. This is the start/basis of Maylor shippery.

Harry and Nadine were first seen the next week, 28 November 2014 at a Fleetwood Mac concert. Harry arrived back from Australia that morning and had what looked like a double date set up with Jeff and Glenne. The same day they went to Nice Guy in LA, also with Jeff and Glenne, maybe before or after the concert. He flew to London the next day, as did Taylor.

But then nothing happened for 3 weeks, during which 1D, Harry & Taylor were in London. Harry and Taylor were seen dancing together, being friendly and left the VS show 5 minutes apart and on 9 December 2014 a seemingly intoxicated Liam made a beard joke at Harry's expense on TV. Harry returned to NYC for 5 days (17 - 21st December) (he stayed at the Bowery) and was then was seen at Jeff and Glenne's in NYC where Nadine was with them, including the 1D SNL afterparty and gallery visit.

The classic Nadine photos were when he wore her purple fluffy coat she posted to Instagram earlier and H got mad at Paparazzi on (Jeff's?) suburban street in NYC, then she disappeared for another 3 weeks, during which Taylor said Harry would interrupt her wedding:

On 2 January 2015 and not seen till the 6th. In that time Taylor posted lyrics from Clean which Harry repeated a year later. On the 6th, Harry went to Shamrock Tattoo where Nadine had her birthdate tattooed. There was a rumour he got 'NL' tattooed, but it was never seen so I think not. Also no photos of him there as far as I know.

On 7 January Harry filled his car with Balloons and went to Craigs for Nadine's birthday, they also went to Cafe Habana with Jeff and Glenne 7 January. Then she again disappeared for 2 weeks during which Harry saw Taylor at Caleb Followill's birthday. During this time Taylor posted some snarky things including the Temper Trap lyrics kitchen and Haim Bikini Hawaii photos.

On 22 January they got Fro-yo together and Harry drove, this is the only time they were seen together without Jeff.

1 February - Nadine attended Harry's 21st birthday, (the only photo of them together is the one with her behind Beckham) there were media reports of PDA, though no photos of PDA or sources. if you've never read it, lpod is the introduction of tim drake, where he goes to get dick and tries to get him to and help bruce who is acting out after jason's death. he told dick that batman needs robin right now but dick, having hung up robin, went as nightwing and so tim puts on the costume and goes to help, saving their lives and convincing bruce to train him, proving the idea that "batman needs a robin" correct

but this goes further than just in the comics

batman made his debut in detective comics #27 (March 30th 1939)

robin made his debut in detective comics #38 (March 6th 1940)

batman has always had a robin

dick retires as robin in tales of teen titans #44 (july 1984), but jason made his first appearance as robin in batman #366 (december 1983) his first proper appearance was in detective comics #525 (april 1983) but he isn't robin until december so there wasn't a time when there was no robin, even if he wasn't with bruce at the time

the only time there wasn't a robin was after jasons death in batman #428 (October 20th 1988) and before tim makes his debut in batman #442 (November 2nd 1989) leaving batman robin-less for just over a year

in total, since his debut, batman has been robin-less for a grand total of 720 days out of the 30,850 i am not getting into tim, steph, and damian's deaths ok, feel free to do the maths yourself but also tim is still robin so...

In the Last Issue of UNREST we reported on the situation in Nigeria shortly after the termination of the results of the first civilian election since 1985 by the military dictatorship of General Babangida.

Much of this update comes directly from our comrades in Nigeria, the Anarcho Syndicalist Awareness League (AL).

After the annulment of the June 12 Presidential election, waves of strikes and violence erupted in Nigeria’s principal cities. The military stepped up the repression, with mass arrests and the banning of publications.

Babangida promised to hand over power to a civilian government on August 27th and then appointed a wealthy businessman and friend, Ernest Shonekan.

Babangida also arrested the winner of the June elections, Social Democratic Party leader Chief Abiola. This was because Abiola had dared to declare himself President.

After the price of petrol was raised by 700%, the central labour union, the Nigerian Labour Congress, called out its members on indefinite strike to protest . The country literally ground to a halt.

In response the military, led by General Sani Abacha,Babangiada’s long standing associate, sacked Shonekan’s team and re-seized power on November 17th, 1993. A virtual State of Emergency has followed.

The Awareness League has stated its opposition to the new military dictatorship. While recognising all the inherent problems associated with elections, the AL has joined with others to call for the return of Abiola to the presidency “ ... despite our own reservations ... we are convinced that the worst civilian government is infinitely better than the best military regime. And for us a civilian government offers a minimum condition for the struggle to establish arevolutionary society”

In conclusion, “the Awareness League rejects the return to the military, in all its ramifications and shall do all it can in collaboration with other activists and labour to resist General Abacha’s regime and force it to abdicate like Babangida and Shonekan’s government before it... We can only ask for continued support and solidarity of all comrades and revolutionaries around the world for the struggle promises to be difficult and long drawn.”

WHAT IS THE AWARENESS LEAGUE?

The AL is a membership organisation of about 1000, spread across different parts of Nigeria. The AL was organised on July 6th, 1989. The charter of the Awareness League states that the organisation is inspired by and committed to the ideals, principles, objectives, goals, ends and purposes of ... anarcho-syndicalism .”

At its fifth national conference, celebrated on July 6th, 1993, the AL committed itself- to a national membership drive, the creation of a, well-organised and functioning secretariat and office, as well as a national education campaign. The delegated to the conference “agreed ... that, unlike in the countries of Europe, America, and Latin America, Africa does not possess an anarchist tradition or experience to point at in concrete terms ... The League therefore shoulders a historical responsibility in the international anarchist movement.”

His travels took him through the Egyptian deserts in the early 1850s, unearthing the obsidian dagger and relics of forgotten civilizations. By the 1870s, he journeyed to South America, raiding ancient Incan and Mayan tombs, bringing back sacred artifacts that would be hidden away in the family collection.

Clarence Baird (2nd Generation)

Date of Birth: December 4, 1850 Date of Death: November 12, 1918 (Age 68)

Clarence followed in his father’s footsteps, traveling to the Arctic Circle in the late 1880s, where he unearthed an ice-sealed tomb and rune-covered scrolls that remain unreadable and the ice unmeltable. In the early 1900s, he traveled to Eastern Europe, seeking occult items from cults and secret societies. His time in Europe led him to claim a reliquary with the soul of a forgotten alchemist from a hidden crypt in France, as well as other rare occult relics.

Evelyn Baird (3rd Generation)

Date of Birth: February 16, 1880 Date of Death: July 19, 1963 (Age 83)

Evelyn was known for her darker pursuits, and her adventures spanned the early 20th century. She was involved in the occult revival of the 1920s, traveling through Europe’s catacombs and unearthing cursed relics. In the late 1930s, she went to Southeast Asia, where she returned with ritual masks and other tribal artifacts believed to hold spirits. Her most infamous acquisition was the cursed reliquary that contained the soul of the alchemist, which she claimed from a secluded temple in Italy in the 1940s.

Thaddeus Baird (4th Generation)

Date of Birth: October 1, 1912 Date of Death: May 5, 1981 (Age 68)

Thaddeus’s travels were focused on the supernatural, an obsession that flourished in the mid-20th century. He began his hunts in the 1940s, focusing on haunted objects and items linked to spirits. By the 1950s, he was collecting artifacts from abandoned, haunted sites around the world, such as the Victorian dolls from London and a lighthouse lantern from a shipwreck in Maine. His greatest acquisition was an antique mirror from a haunted Scottish manor, which he obtained in 1960, believed to show the deepest fears of those who looked into it.

Algernon Baird (5th Generation)

Date of Birth: January 3, 1900 Date of Death: October 18, 1989 (Age 89)

Algernon's obsession with lost treasures and artifacts took him to Thailand, Tibet, and other remote places beginning in the 1920s. By the 1940s, he had gathered treasures from Buddhist monks in Thailand, including a set of ancient scrolls said to be cursed. In the 1960s, he ventured to Tibet, returning with a stone tablet inscribed with cryptic symbols. He continued collecting forbidden artifacts into his old age, with his most prized possession being the preserved body of a supposed "half-demon" that he unearthed from a secret temple in 1978. His death in 1989 marked the end of an era for the Baird family’s collection of stolen wonders.

Rune Sthirasuta (6th Generation)

Date of Birth: November 1, 1960 Current Age: 29 (as of 1990)

Though Rune is not a Baird by blood, his life is entwined with the Baird legacy. Born in Thailand, he became part of the family’s strange collection after his arrival in Cardinal Hill at age 29. Unlike the Bairds before him, Rune was not an explorer; he was a treasure himself, a new piece of the museum's history. While the Bairds stole physical artifacts, Rune tries to return the stolen wonders to their rightful places. Stil, like the artifacts, he always returns to the museum, bound by forces beyond his control.
