I find it incredibly hilarious that there's so much ship discourse in the gravity falls fandom regarding more controversial ships with people arguing shit like "alex hirsch would hate you" meanwhile-

Yeah... and as the show goes, his crush with Wendy isnt meant to go anywhere. I have never been a fan of how awkward Dipper have to be when trying to appear cooler to impress Wendy in the show. To me, Wendy is more of an older sister and a mentor to Dipper, and she's quite way out of Dipper's league. Sure, Dipper did put in some effort, trying to appeal to Wendy, but those are mostly desperate measures like going through timeloops or cloning himself to make a plan work. And Wendy expressed little interest in Dipper in the show no matter what he did and didn't reciprocate such feelings. And I like how they resolved their arc such that they remain best friends.

While there's still a rather remote chance for Wendy and Dipper to end up together perhaps when they're older (since they are friends first of all and share interests like catching up with horror movies and dealing with the paranormal), an important character arc for Dipper is him learning to let go that desire and want of control, which includes letting Wendy go and pursuing love down the road.

It's unfortunate, however, that Hirsch didn't have much plans for Wendy besides being the cool girl Dipper has a crush on. From what the writers said, they have a harder time trying to crack Wendy than for the other characters. Even a Wendy-centric episode got scrapped in favour of The Last Mabelcorn. Still, she does have her moments especially in WMG1. I do wish she's more involved in the show besides being Dipper's love interest.

To be honest, I’m glad Wendy and Dipper didn’t end up together. For a number of reasons:

1. Wendy makes it clear in this scene that she’s not interested in Dipper like that, and I think it’s good to show kids that sometimes your crush is just not going to be into you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still be friends.

2. It’s not even the age gap, so much as that personality-wise I think she works better as a cool big sis for him and Mabel.

3. Similar to 1, in the real world you usually don’t wind up with your first crush. I definitely didn’t, and we didn’t part on half as good of terms as these two.

4. I like the chemistry of Dipcifica. Sue me.

5. In many ways, this is the most important reason: these are children.

None of them are emotionally mature enough for a serious relationship (yes, that includes Wendy, considering the number of guys she’s broken up with-or in poor Mark Epstein’s case, not bothered to properly break up with). They literally have their whole lives ahead of them in which to fall in love and junk.

Man it's wild having grown up with Gravity Falls, where a 12 year old having a crush on a 15 year old is presented as like "LOL this is obviously never going to happen, weren't we all so stupid at that age?", and then going back and watching Avatar where that's the actual main endgame ship.

“Nononono- WendyheheHEEHEE! DON’T!” He cried as she started to pinch his sides with her other hand, while the one she’d grabbed him with began to skitter over his neck.

“Awwww man, this is too good!” Wendy jeered excitedly. She let out a little giggle that Dipper would have thought was adorable had he not been too consumed with his own laughter and how badly this tickled.

“Pleasepleasepleaseplease!” Dipper shrieked when Wendy got a hand under his arm. He flailed back and rolled around on the ground as Wendy continued to tickle him.

“Stop-stop! I cahahan’t take it! Plehehehease!” Dipper pleased, his arms flailing about in front of him desperately.

“Oh, aaaaalright.” Wendy sighed. She stopped tickling, instead patting him on the head and then offering a hand to help him up.

As soon as Dipper went to take it, huffing and panting from the tickle attack, Wendy’s hand lurched forward and poked a few times as his tummy. It sent Dipper wobbling back with a squeal.

“HA!” Wendy snorted. “Sorry, sorry. I had to. I’ll stop, I’ll stop.”

Dipper watched her, blushing madly as he stood on his own. “You! You’re! .. you!” Dipper palmed his face, groaning. “Don’t do that again.”

“No promises.” She winked.

Is it ok if I still ship Wendip and not Dipifica? I don't see them as anything beyond platonic. It would be nice to give her some genuine friends who don't want to hang for status or money, only for genuine friendship and such. But I do ship Mabifica, if that's also ok. So that way Pacifica can still be Pacifica Pines and I can give both twins a win.

During the discussion with two Wendip fans, I once summarized the situation with Wendip and Dipcifica like this;

Dipcifica: Betting on potentials and building grounds up by themselves

In a longer version, it would sound like this.

Wendip suits those who prefer more believable dynamics between two with grounds to support, Dipcifica suits those who are more of visionaries based on its potential over officially provided grounds

One of them said this summary was pretty accurate. They said that if you're only working with an idea of having them together without what's been shown, you'll get a hundred various dynamics and they aren't sure which version of dynamic they'd like.
