This is what happens when you make "finding something wrong" someone's entire job. Those S&P guys are on a power trip, but they could be the most cooperative, saintly people on the planet and it wouldn't make a difference. If they don't find something to complain about, something that's too far or problematic or a mistake, then they risk being fired.

It's like what Christian Bale in Ford V. Ferrari said - it's just a long-ass daisy chain of people trying to please their boss.

That video of Alex Hirsch reading S&P notes for Gravity Falls conveys a few things to me:

1) the U.S. entertainment industry (especially animation) is run by older conservative types who make up offensive terms and get really mad about them.

2) the people who run Disney would be the first to fall in line with a fascist regime.

3) most of the media we consume is tailor-made and watered-down to appeal to the tastes of older, deeply religious conservative audiences.

4) conservatism, not the left, is and always has been the biggest voice of censorship in American culture.

I have nothing to add to the above, but I did want to extrapolate on the differences I see, personally, between how the two creators can be perceived.

Alex Hirsch is undeniably a beings who is solidly Choatic Neutral. As far as I have seen he finds enjoyment in messing with his fans and stirring things up. He is a Meme King and has intentionally made fan ideas and creations cannon to his series. He encourages to embrace chaos and mischief, to keep hold of discovery and amazement.

Peter S Beagle however comes across as a being who encourages one to grow, to be better than they were before, to be at peace with one’s self. That it’s okay to be damaged, but to learn to live with the trauma you have experienced. He reminds you that all will be okay, no matter how difficult it may be to get there. That the journey will change you irreversibly.

But both men share something. They both encourage you to grow, to improve, and to accept the changes that come to you. Alex may be Chaotic and Peter may be Blissful, but both have impact generations.

And honestly, knowing this, you can’t deny that they are both men of change and acceptance but on two very different sides of how to do so. Thus why I believe unless you’re a fan of both, the opposite drives one nuts.

alex hirsch truly is like. the guy ever. he created one of if not the most renowned and successful disney tva shows. he clowns on said network. he won his high school’s bird calling contest. he hates trump and is always advocating for people to vote. also prank calls republican/maga hotlines and was on the washington post for such. he voices half the cast of his own show and does a deranged mickey mouse voice he uses for like two separate shows. he owns a giant taxidermy buffalo. he and his sister were on an international improv team in high school. disney censored practically all queer themes in his show and now he has a nyt best seller (and created the website plus recent interviews ect ect) that imply there was something going on between that fuck ass triangle and ford. a straight man creating good old man yaoi. creates the craziest rabbit holes to send the fandom down probably primarily fueled by adhd and coffee. he probably has his flannel sewn to his body atp and has thousands of sticky hands on the wall in his house. i could go on but he’s just truly such a interesting guy
